Solve : My Computer (may not) Suck!?

Answer»

My PC is better now. Please delete this post. Why ? ?

EVERYONE feels this at one time or another...You, patio is a moderator. You should delete this post.I vote it's more humourous for it to remain, as a reminder to others that perhaps they shouldn't try to use the creation of a  forum thread as some sort of ritualistic anger management. It also ILLUSTRATES the OLD adage of thinking before hitting the Post button... Actually, You is a pronounI was going to add more but there was a error.OK this is an irrelevant question toward the point of the forums intentions.
Fun though some people find it I BELIEVE a serious question will result in a firm and releavent answer.I have no idea what you're saying...I agree.. I need some sleep time..I have a question. WHY do you hate your PC? The first system LOOKS pretty good, all you need to do is slap a good video card in and you can play games. So why do you hate your PC and do you mean both or just one? I made my system better now. I got a widescreen monitor. I don't hate it now.Really? You change your mind really fast. What's the resolution?I figured out how to make it suck less. I will also build a pc.

I have win 7 ultimate I reformated and still get this message any help is appreciated at first I was having a problem with the screen shutting down it was telling me that the video card was missing files tried to get files but still had the problem so vid card was replaced screen is fine now no shut downs but everytime the computer goes to sleep  and I wake it up I get this blue screen telling me that there is a problem it does not STAY long for me to read
Dual core 2.0  975 box intel mb 4 gig MEM this problem related with Ram, if you have knowledge about computer hardware then open your CPU and remove ram ,Clean the ram and reinstall it ,if you have another ram swap it and check redbird...

I see you also have the same thread posted at PCMech Forums.  You should do as NUCLEAR Krusader has recommended and disable the reboot on blue screen so that we can get the appropriate Stop error code.  Once you get that code...please update this topic with the appropriate Stop error code.

From PCMech Forums:
Code: [Select]We need the actual BSOD code; the Windows report is pretty useless.

What we need looks like this: IRQ_NOT_LESS_THAN_EQUAL, or something like that. You read that right off the first lines of the BSOD itself. The numeric code that follows the message in CAPS is also useful.

Of course your machine needs to be set up to not reboot on system errors: click on the Start orb, choose Control Panel, then click on the System item; there, in the left panel, click on Advanced System Settings > click on the Settings... button in the last of the THREE categories displayed (Startup and Recovery) > and uncheck 'Automatically Restart'. Click OK twice and CLOSE the System/Control Panel window. This is the info I get with the blue screen

Solve : Computer can't enable hibernating?

Answer»

Hi there!
I want to enable hibernating but I am unable to do it. Only the monitor hibernation is available but the option to hibernate the system is not there in the control panel. I updated the BIOS and I tried the following in the command prompt:
--------------------------------------
Code: [Select]Microsoft Windows [Version 6.0.6001]
COPYRIGHT (c) 2006 Microsoft Corporation.  All rights reserved.

C:\Users\User>powercfg /hibernate on
Hibernation failed with the following error: The request is not supported.

The following items are preventing hibernation on this system.
There are one or more legacy drivers installed:
                Gem98

C:\Users\User>
-----------------------------------
My PC specs are:
Intel Pentium 4 630
Intel D945GNT (MB)
3GB DDR2 memory
DVD Burner & CD drive
300GB SATA hard drive
Windows Vista Ultimate

How do we DISABLE the Gem98 driver or make the system hibernate or save power?I kow this doesn't answer your QUESTION but you are better off not using hibernate. Just set your hd and display to power down after a defined period of inactivity.while u were using disc cleanup did u delete the hibernation files cause that could be your problem Quote from: porlean on September 19, 2009, 04:10:55 PM

Huh?My computer->right click (c:) drive-> go to properties-> click disc cleanup->

and it GIVES the option to delete hibernation files but it cautions this because there not recoverable That would have nothing to do with enabling or disabling hibernation.but what if he did delete these files wont he no longer be able enable hibernation? That only deletes the hiberfil.sys file in the root of c: drive. It has nothing to do with enabling or disabling hibernation.ok thanks for the info, I stand corrected This is a problem with the Gem98.sys file, not the hiberfil.sys file.
It's only my guessHas he tried running SFC /scannow from a command prompt ? ?

Solve : Extra Bar To Pin Icons On?

Answer»

Strange question, does any body know if there is a way to set a second start bar in WINDOWS 7 that is only for clipping shortcuts to. The reason being that I like the idea of clipping shortcuts to the start bar but ALSO like having a clear list of ACTIVE programs/folders.

Btw avoid www.screensavers.com lots of viruses, ADWARE, spyware and it directly asks for your personal details, just be sure.why not just USE a Quick Launch toolbar and put your shortcuts on it?

Solve : Audiodg memory leak in Win7 with X-Fi?

Answer»

Does anybody KNOW if the Audiodg.exe memory leak in Win7 when using a Sound Blaster X-Fi CARD is still AROUND?  Has it been FIXED?  I've got a card I want to get installed, but I don't want to do it unless the problem has been fixed.  I don't want to have to deal with Audiodg's memory usage bloating to HUGE sizes.

Solve : Mass cloning Windows 7 workstations?

Answer»

Hi folks.  Not sure if anyone has prior experience of this - it's a new one for me, so I'd be interested to know if anyone's been down this path before and if there are any gotchas.

Scenario: We're getting seven identical Acer workstations at the office.  I'd like to do the bulk of the software installation on one machine and then clone it to the six others.  They will be running Windows 7 64-bit

I believe that the procedure is something like the following, but I've never done this before, so I'm not certain:

  • Add "master" workstation to Active Directory domain.
  • Complete CONFIGURATION and software installation on master, including Office 2010
  • Run sysprep; shut down
  • Take image of hard drive (I'll be using CloneZilla)
  • Copy image to "slave" workstations
  • Remove master's original entry from AD
  • Boot master workstation - add to domain again and enter relevant details
  • Boot slaves - add to domain and enter relevant details

Questions:
Does the sysprep reset the Office 2010 licence/activation?
Have I missed anything critical?
Are there any drawbacks to using the "generalize" option?  I'm thinking that the image COULD theoretically be used for future workstations, regardless of manufacturer/model.According to this USER:
http://www.winsysadminblog.com/2010/12/office-2010-and-windows-sysprep-adventures/
Quote
For our new roll out next year, we are deploying Microsoft Office 2010 and using KMS as our licensing method. Througthe use of sysprep’s generalize command, Windows will flush its Activation Status and associated hardware ID as well as rearming the activation state to its fresh install state (grace period).
I'm not too familiar with mass Office activation, but it seems you would need a Volume Licensing Key:

What about drivers?Yeah, it's not WORTH us implementing KMS, given how gradually we will be migrating.  I'm happy to enter the Office 2010 details into each machine per its product key card, so thanks for that tidbit of info.

Thankfully with Windows 7, DRIVER issues are less of a problem.  I wouldn't expect to migrate a workstation image on to a laptop, mind you.

Solve : Computer acting strange? (several reasons)?

Answer»

I've had this Windows 7 laptop for about a year now.  It actually just got back from the repair after a major hardware issue that popped up out of nowhere.  It should be working fine now, except it suddenly BEGAN to act strange again.  Just yesterday, it crashed twice.  I think it was during a video, but the screen suddenly froze and after waiting a couple minutes it crashed.

The next problem is when it starts up.  It starts normally with the windows logo, but never gets to the welcome screen.  I hear the windows greeting noise, but the screen remains lit up and black.  After waiting for a few minutes, I pressed the power button until it shut down, then turned it on again.  This time it started normally.

What worried me more is that TODAY, all my ACCOUNTS were logged out.  Normally I keep my email and other account passwords saved and kept logged in (when I open up my email, I'm already logged in).  The passwords are unchanged, but all my accounts were logged out.

Is this serious? Please define "crashed"Went to the screen where it said "dumping data" or something.  It started up pretty quick after that, so I couldn't really see what it was. Quote

Can you specify what kind of hardware issue and what laptop model? Have you backed up all FILES from an external storage?Download BlueScreenView:

unzip downloaded FILE and double click on BlueScreenView.exe to run the program.
when scanning is done, go to EDIT - Select All

Solve : Windows 7 - Computer slow?

Answer»

Problem with my Emachines computer...I've had it for 1 1/2 years and came installed with windows 7; it did not come with the program so I can't uninstall & re-install.  Background info:  I have dial up so I'm used to the computer being slower than high speed...it was working great up until a few weeks ago then slowly started to be slow in loading pages.  My son thought I might have malware on it & suggested that I download malwarebytes, which I did but didnt help.  One day after starting the computer, an alert came up saying something about wkswp.exe.  Not sure what it meant so I did a little RESEARCH and found out it has something to do with the cpu and perhaps programs automatically running when starting up the computer but don't know where to go from there or how to resolve the problem.  I also deleted the malwarebyte download; not sure if I should have done that.  Anyway, once I get a page loaded & click on a link, it takes forever to load and sometimes it won't load, it'll say internet explorer can't load the page. I have an AMD Athlon II x 2 250u  processor 1.60 GHZ with 4.00 GB of memory and 64 bit os.  I don't have any games or music loaded, just use the computer for basic email and document files

I'm afraid that my computer might crash and I had this happen on another computer (guess you can tell I'm not savvy on computer repair).  I would like to go through my software and perhaps DELETE some things which might help but since my computer came preloaded with my software, I'm hesitant to delete anything that may need to stay on the computer.  Please help and thank you Quote

wkswp.exe
What is the complete message alert and changes/removed software before the problem? I would keep Malwarebytes(updated), use Superantispyware and Ccleaner to clear you cache or temp. files. The loading page problem could be cause by having a dial up which is nowadays not common.
I don't know how to get back to that alert (any suggestions?) but it had something to do with high cpu usageand the possibility of a crash.    I clicked on my cpu and it was alternating between 5% and 35%. The only program I deleted was malwarebytes, no changes in speed once it was deleted but to re-iterate, even with dialup, I was still able to load pages in a reasonable time but now it is nearly like a freeze.  I had no problems loading prior to this alert.  Being in dial-up would still be a questionable performance in terms of browsing activity. Have you tried using the softwares suggested to scan and clean your computer?Yes, I've scanned my computer but there don't seem to be any virus on it.  I also have Norton Security 2012 on it and it says the computer is virus free although I know that it is possible to get past virus protectiion.  I also de-fraged it.  I doubt it has to do with dial up because I've always had dial up and have never experienced this problem in the whole 6-7 years I've had a computer.

I'd like to use process of elimination, in other words, any suggestions on what to try first and the method of how to do it first and work my way to other POSSIBILITIES.  I've scanned the computer with no results, now what?  Thanks to all. Quote
wkswp.exe.  Not sure what it meant so I did a little research and found out it has something to do with the cpu

Well, I did some too, and I found out that wkswp.exe is the Microsoft Works word processor. Do you have Works installed?

It's not at all clear what you mean by your computer being "slow". Do you mean slow at web browsing and sending emails or slow at everything including non-internet things like wordprocessing?

Hi; yes, the computer has microsoft works pre-installed...by being slow I mean that it takes way longer than a couple of minutes for web pages to load and sometimes I have to hit the enter button several times for them to upload.  Also, sometimes, all of a web page will not load like it should, I'll get part of a page then have to enter again before the entire thing loads.  I never had an ISSUE with this until the current problem.  I have no problem with my document files uploading.  Could it possibly have something to do with Microsoft works?  Thanks for your helpSo you're saying the only problem is when you are browsing? If that's the case:

1) Are there other computers at your location that are also ONLINE? If so, do they browse at normal speed?

2) Have you tried a different broswer (just for testing purposes)? If not, please do.

Solve : How can I arrange items by date in Vista?

Answer»

In Windows XP I was able to arrange items in a folder by date.
But I can't seem to do this in Windows Vista.
Is there a way?
Please let me know.Same as XP. Sort the column the way you want it, click on TOOLS - FOLDER OPTIONS - VIEW and make SURE there is a tic mark in "remember each folder's view settings"Thank you for your RESPONSE but it doesn't answer my question.
My problem is not the folder placement. It the placement of the files and folders within a folder.
For example, I want to be able to view the contents of a folder in the order that they were placed in the folder. Right now, every file placed in the folder falls into its ALPHABETICAL placement. Then go to the folder properties and select sort by date...
Alphabetical i believe is the default. To further clarify patio's post, within Windows Explorer click on the folder you want to sort. Then in the right pane you have two choices to accomplish your goal:

1) Click on the "DATE" title at the top of the DATE column to sort by date or
2) Right-click within the right-pane and CHOOSE "sort by -- date"

Solve : change systemlangue (Vista home premium)?

Answer»

Hi,

A friend came along with some computerproblems and asked me if I could help him out.
Since there was loads off STUFF on that Acer who didn't belong there I decided to reformat it.
I pressed F10 at launch so I would have the "resore to factory setting" option.
What I didn't know is that you NEED to create a restore CD. (I did it before on DELL without needed a recovery CD)
Since we didn't have that CD it was send back to France.
Now the language is french and We're dutch so is there anyway I can change the system language without needing to reformat it again (since I have had a bad experience with that.)

thanks in advance

Solve : Windows 7 update, now nothing working properly?

Answer»

I have windows 7 and recently did an update, now nothing is working properly. My gadgets on my desktop don't WORK, internet explorer is not working, skype is not working, my tabs at the top of my desktop do not link, my pc is running slow. Any IDEAS to fix this?Windows 7 has a restore feature. This will "roll-back" the  PC to an earlier point in time.

Was the up date non TUESDAY? Try going back to Monday.
Is it a real win disk..Noone mentioned a disc...Can you try REMOVING these tabs or gadgets from desktop view? Unless its not an infection and windows update would create these serious effect, a repair install is likely your choice. Make a back-up of your personal documents just in CASE.

These 3 programs, just caused a problem to me. After restart of my comp, they appeared, and caused explorer.exe to STOP running, and I had to use CTRL+ALT+DEL to start any tasks from task manager. The latest ones are caused by BSODs.
You may as well...
Download BlueScreenView
No installation required.
Double click on BlueScreenView.exe file to run the program.
When scanning is done, go Edit>Select All.
Go File>Save Selected Items, and save the report as BSOD.txt.
Open BSOD.txt in Notepad, copy all content, and paste it into your next reply.

However, it's a bed time, so I'll take a good look tomorrow.Hello again, with reference to the BSODs, I had restarted my laptop, therefore when I went to run the program, it didn't record anything down. What's next for me?Make sure, debugging is enabled...

1. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel (Start>Control Panel in Vista).
2. Double-click System.
3. Click (Advanced system settings link in Vista, then --->)the Advanced tab, and then click Settings under Startup and Recovery.
4. Make sure, there is a checkmark in Write an event to the system log.
5. In the Write debugging information list, click Small memory dump (64k).

Solve : Vista to Free Win 7?

Answer»

I was hearing talk on here about getting an upgrade for free to the new win 7 for vista users.  My sister has had it for shortly about a year, can she get it an how would we go about getting it?  Quote from: Shu on September 13, 2009, 04:35:56 AM

My sister has had it for shortly about a year

Uh-oh.

Program Eligibility Period
- Windows Vista PCs preinstalled with qualifying software must be purchased by end users between these dates.

June 26, 2009 through January 31, 2010 *
* Open to change, and depends on the actual release to market DATE of Windows 7ah    I was kind of hoping that it would have worked out.  I have a copy of RC but nothing else. You have to get a qualifying product within the dates, the idea is to persuade people to buy a PC with Vista now, even though they would rather have 7, so that they do not all wait until 7 is available, which would make sellers of new PCs unhappy.

Why would it?  Sales would increase?  Course that means that they would have to get a shipment an such.  Its rather sad to hear that though Quote from: Shu on September 13, 2009, 05:06:15 AM
Why would it?  Sales would increase?

If many people are unhappy with Vista, then many people who wish to buy a new PC would wait until they are sure of getting Windows 7. This would DEPRESS sales between now and when Windows 7 is released. But its free to use rc so wouldnt that give them an insight to it?The RC will run properly 'til March or so of next year...
It will then start taking a dump every day for 2 HOURS at random intervals until it times out altogether...

I'd still contact the manuf. and see if you qualify for anything...
You never know 'til you ask...So would I need anything aside from the common with me before contacting them?  Person whom bought it..... ect..... Quote from: Shu on September 13, 2009, 08:37:14 AM

Solve : Windows Firewall will not start in Vista?

Answer»

I am having problems STARTING the Windows Firewall .   I RECEIVED the message " Windows Firewall settings cannot be displayed because the associated service is not running.  Do you want to start the Firewall service?
I continue to receive an error message in response to this question that says "Windows cannot start the Windows Firewall Service."

I removed MaAfee Security completely, but I still GET this same message.  One of the HP support guys thought that something CALLED install HinfSection was missing from the installed list.    The HP All-in-One software will not let me install a new printer unless the Windows Firewall is working PROPERLY

Can you help?

JayOpen a command prompt (run as administrator) and enter the following command: NETSH FIREWALL RESET
Followed by ENTER
Reboot
Did that help? No.   It says the "Service has not started" after I enter the NETSH FIREWALL RESET
command.    Make sure, services listed below are up and running:

The  first three Services in the Red box are up and running except I cannot find the Windows Firewall Authorization DriverWindows Firewall Authorization Driver won't be listed there.
Go Start>Control Panel>Device Manager
On the View tab, put a check next to "Show hidden devices".
Look for Windows Firewall Authorization Driver.
Double-click that, and on the Driver tab, make sure the Startup type is set to "Demand".

Solve : Restoring Vista?

Answer»

Hey everyone.

I have a  problem.
I wanted to dual boot my Vista with Windows 7.
I was told I had to partition my Vista drive.
So I tried to, but it told me I could not shrink the volume.
I then realized it was because of the D: Drive Partition.
Then I deleted the D: Drive partition and it worked.
After I did that, I realized I deleted my recovery abilities.
I was planning on restoring my Vista to factory state, which I should have done before, but did not.
Not I cannot use my system restore.
I also do not have my OS Disk.

Is it possible for me to restore my system?Contact the manuf. and SEE if they will ship you Recovery CD's...Is that free or WOULD I have to pay for the CDs?Most TIMES it's only a nominal SHIPPING fee...but you won't know until you ask.

Solve : ()drives disappeared?

Answer»

HI, I recently tried to install w7 by using a usbdrive (while reading a tutorial on a website ) that asked me to follow some diskpart commands in commandprompt, i followed those and later i realized i forgot to plug my pendrive! and after i had typed few commands frm that tute i realizd that two of my hard drives frm "my computer" had disappeared, and only two remained , pls help me in getting those two drives back.
DiskPart as you have just found out is a powerful tool...DANGEROUS in FACT if used without KNOWING what it does...
Post the directions and or the commands you ran...

PS...if you in fact removed partitions using it your recovery CHANCES are slim to none...well as I remember i typed " create PARTITION" not "delete partition" , I don't know why that caused
the deletion of drives?... You may not have selected empty space before you created it...

The only choice at this point is a decent partition recovery app...

Unfortunately there are no good Free ones.ok, i'll try that, will i be able to get all my data back or just the free space , have i lost all my data ? I can't guarantee you getting anything back...sorry.

Solve : fairly new laptop randomly acts slow for no logical reason?

Answer»

Before you try to answer my question...

First, if you are going to say I have a virus then don't even bother with this topic
Second, if you are going to tell me to download "x program" from "x website" then don't bother with this topic.
Third, if you are going to say "LOL WINDOWS SUCKS, USE A MAC n00b!" Then don't bother with this topic. I want to FIX my problem, not hear about how your laptop with a half-eaten apple printed on the side is so powerful and fast you could take over Russia with it.

Okay, so I got my laptop in Sept 2011 (specs below). Today's date is March 3, 2012. In between now and when I first got my laptop, I have experienced this problem twice (and a few minor times that weren't as bad). What will happen, is I boot up my laptop one night and it runs PERFECTLY - super fast, smooth, and quiet (it doesn't make a bunch of "loading" sounds). The very next day, I will boot up my laptop, and (for no logical reasoning) it takes FOREVER to boot up; then once it boots up it lags (typing lags, frame rates lag, etc.) and it sounds like it's trying to have a baby (loud "loading noises", etc.). This "slow-mode" will go on for a random period, then eventually speed up again. Since everything is so random, it's hard to determine what's going on. A good way to describe my slow-mode is that my laptop acts like someone took out ALL my RAM and it's trying to move along but doesn't have the sufficient memory to do anything.
I don't look up porn, I don't download anything w/o scanning it for viruses - in fact, all I use my laptop for is youtube, netflix, facebook, SECURE videogames (Steam games and other SAFE games like minecraft, League of Legends, etc.), and an assortment of other safe programs (guitar PRO, visual studios c++, itunes, etc.). I am very safe with my computer and always am on the lookout for what bugs could possibly get inside, and I always make sure Webroot as a "check mark" beside sites before I go to them.

A few things I've tried so far
- Virus scan with WEBROOT, found 0 infections
- Disk cleanup
- Disk defragmenter
- an assortment of other "memory" cleanups

Some of these I'm doing as I am typing this out so it may solve the problem, but your answers and help will be highly appreciated.
One last thing - my free Webroot antivirus trial ends soon. Should I (a) completely uninstall Webroot and download/install the free version of Avast! or (b) go ahead and purchase the full subscription to Webroot for $20-$30? In other words, paid-for version of Webroot VS. free version of Avast!.

My Computer
Toshiba Satellite P755
600 GB hard-drive w/ 580 GB available at purchase
Intel Core i3-2310M CPU 2.10 GHz
6 GB DDR3 RAM
Intel HD Graphics Family 1696 MB
64-bit OS

THANKYOU FOR YOUR HELP!!  May I make a suggestion to you please? If you are new to a forum and you're asking for help, don't give orders. It really comes across the wrong way. Your goal is to make us want to help you, not be offended by your style. Just a friendly suggestion, that's all.

Next - what do you mean by "an assortment of memory cleanups"?

Also, let's run checkdisk and a check of ram:

To run checkdisk, right-click on a command prompt icon and open as administrator. In the command prompt window type: chkdsk /r  (then press ENTER). You'll be told the disk is in use and asked if you want to run checkdisk on the next boot. Say yes, exit the command prompt window, and reboot.

To check the ram, download memtest (http://memtest.org/). Burn it to a cd using a dedicated .iso burning utility (http://www.petri.co.il/how_to_write_iso_files_to_cd.htm), make sure the cd drive is at the top of the boot order in bios, then boot to the newly created cd and run the utility. Thanks for the help! This is the answer I've been looking for. I'm sorry for coming off as rude, but I've seriously asked like 90000 other people this same thing and all they can tell me is "you might have a virus". To me, saying "you might have a virus" is like saying "LOL I'm a n00b and don't know anything about how a computer works xD". I really appreciate your legitimate answer and will give it a shot. And, when I said "don't tell me to download 'x program'..." basically, on other FORUMS all I get is people trying to sell me their product. That's the deal with all that. I'm just being really assertive because this issue is really aggravating, and I'm sick of listening to a bunch of n00bs say "oh you might have a virus" or "BUY MY PROGRAM IT'LL SOLVE ALL YOUR LIFE'S PROBLEMS."

Finally, by assortment of disk cleanups, basically I just ran defragmenter, disk cleanup, deleted some old programs/files that I never look at, etc. Just cleaned up my hard drive of excess junk I'll never use.

Thankyou for your help and I actually learned something from it!  Quote from: mott1992 on March 03, 2012, 11:16:35 AM

LOL I'm a n00b xD" ...  a bunch of n00bs ...

I would go along with Allan's comments about tone, and add that throwing out comments about "bunches of n00bs" comes over as QUITE annoying and aggressive rather than just "assertive". To add to WHATS been stated this is probably one of the few Help Forums out there that A) does not advertise any products because there are always (mostly) Free alternatives out there and B) nips ANYONE in the bud if they do attempt to give bad advice such as buying something to fix your ills ...those people do NOT last long here at all...
So basically i'd say you're in good hands.

Follow Allan's recommendations and Post back with an update.

Not that I am a techy at all but just have read what others who have had the same problem been ask to do so I did those and have posted them below. Please HELP.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Welcome to WhoCrashed (HOME EDITION) v 3.03
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This program checks for drivers which have been crashing your computer. If your computer has displayed a blue screen of death, suddenly rebooted or shut down then this program will help you find the root cause and possibly a solution.

Whenever a computer suddenly reboots without displaying any notice or blue screen of death, the first thing that is often thought about is a hardware failure. In reality, on Windows most crashes are caused by malfunctioning device drivers and kernel modules. In case of a kernel error, many computers do not show a blue screen unless they are configured for this. Instead these systems suddenly reboot without any notice.

This program will analyze your crash dumps with the SINGLE click of a button. It will tell you what drivers are likely to be responsible for crashing your computer. If will report a conclusion which offers suggestions on how to proceed in any situation while the analysis report will display internet links which will help you further troubleshoot any detected problems.

Conclusion
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

2 crash dumps have been found and analyzed. A third party driver has been identified to be causing system crashes on your computer. It is strongly suggested that you check for updates for these drivers on their company websites. Click on the links below to search with Google for updates for these drivers:

unknown

If no updates for these drivers are available, TRY searching with Google on the names of these drivers in combination the errors that have been reported for these drivers and include the brand and model name of your computer as well in the query. This often yields interesting results from discussions from users who have been experiencing similar problems.

Read the topic general suggestions for troubleshooting system crashes for more information.

Note that it's not always possible to state with certainty whether a reported driver is actually responsible for crashing your system or that the root cause is in another module. Nonetheless it's suggested you look for updates for the products that these drivers belong to and regularly visit Windows update or enable automatic updates for Windows. In case a piece of malfunctioning hardware is causing trouble, a search with Google on the bug check errors together with the model name and brand of your computer may help you investigate this further.I ran a test at pcpitstop here is the url to my test results http://www.pcpitstop.com/betapit/sec.asp?conid=24820177I wouldn't rely on a PCPitstop report on 1 of my PC's so i won't recommend it here...
Here's what i'd do...travel to the HP site and DLoad and re-install all drivers...MBoard chipset drivers 1st.

If the issues persist after that DLoad and run MemTest to see if the RAM is the culprit.

Best of Luck and let us know...Blue screen error number is !

Solve : Help With Factory Restoring My Computer?

Answer»

My computer has recently caught a bad VIRUS. Normally I can get under control but this time I couldn't so I DECIDED to go with my back up plan. Whenever my computer gets too bad, I would initiate a system restoration and just wipe computer to make it LIKE I just bought it. It's a trick I learned a few years ago and used it a couple times since. I would back up my things, restart my computer, and hit Ctrl+F11 and then I get this little screen that asks me if I want to perform the system restoration (I think that is what it said) and then boom, computer back to normal. So I decide to do that again, since I don't have the original discs to re-install windows myself, but this time something was different. I tried over and over again to at the start up menu to get the screen to work but it didn't. That is when I learned that somehow the method has been changed. Now I have to PRESS F8 and go to Repair your computer option. So I did, and here is where the problem arises. The directions I got online say I should be asked to select a language, but I don't get that option, instead I get sent directly to the login screen like when you normally start it up but I don't have my account there. It is a blank account that says other user. So I figured it just wanted my account name and password so I tried it and it didn't work. Then I tried again and again, then I tried typing in adminstrator and so and so. I tried nearly every possible combination out there and I am stumped, so there has to be someone who knows the answer. Please help if you can.

I am running Windows Vista and I have a Dell Inspiron 530Best thing to do is contact the Dell site, even if it is out of warranty.
FYI In Vista you can make a backup DVD of the system. Also, there are good free backup software methods that go beyond just a system restorer from the had drive.

Sorry, I don't have a plan to help you get out of this. I do BELIEVE the Dell people will help you best if you spend some time on their site and look around. Dell has one of the better self-help systems on the Internet.

Solve : tasklist error?

Answer»

Hi I keep getting an error when I type tasklist in the cmd prompt the error reads ERROR: The remote SYSTEM must be running Windows 2000 or above. Why am I getting this error. The os is windows 7 64bit.
Tasklist merely ENUMERATES all the tasks that are running at present. You can do the same thing by pressing Ctrl-Alt-Delete and opening up Task Manager.

This may also help.
http://forum.soft32.com/windows/command-prompt-tasklist-logon-failure-ftopict278510.html

The problem is that DCOM is causing WMI to run at a wrong permission level.
To fix this problem:
1) PRESS Win+R while you are at the desktop to BRING up the Run menu.
2) Type in DCOMCNFG and press "Run"
3) SOMETHING like this should come up:

4) After that, right click on the "My Computer" text and hit “Properties"

5) Set the appropriate permissions:

6) Set the appropriate access permissions:

7) Then press "OK" for everything and you should be done.

Solve : Rebooting all the time?

Answer»

Everytime i go on my compaq computer and go into a program (DIFFERENT times) it always reboots when i'm in the middle of doing something, this is CONTINUOUS. Then yesterday it did it again but instead of TURNING itself back on it did 1 short beep and 1 long beep. What does this mean and how can i fix it?Can you boot to Windows, or you're stuck?Blow the dust out of the computer with a can of compressed air.I've cleaned the inside of the computer already with compressed air.

The first time i get onto the computer it starts fine. But its when i'm in the middle of something when it shuts itself off and keeps rebooting. Its mostly at a black screen but sometimes either it comes up with a blue screen or it goes to the option of safe mode normal, safe mode networking or safe mode prompt, but even before i can pick one it shuts back off and on again continously.Disable "Restart on error" feature...

1. Right-click My Computer, and then click Properties.
2. Click the Advanced tab (Vista: click Advanced system settings).
3. Under Startup and Recovery, click Settings to open the Startup and Recovery dialog box.
4. Clear the Automatically restart check box, and click OK the necessary number of times.
5. Restart your computer for the settings to TAKE effect.

You may see some error message. If so, post back what it says.

Solve : webcam download?

Answer»

I am trying to download a webcam from a kennel so as to MONITOR my dogs actions while there. I can get the kennel and the webcam but when I try to ACTIVATE the cam I get this message (no windows permission to download OCX). I have Vista Home 64bit system. Can anyone tell me how to solve this problem. Use IE. And go to Tools - Security - (uncheck) Enable protected mode

That should work  64 bit Windows does not support unsigned drivers. OCX MAY not be signed or may not work for Vista 64. You should ask the hardware MAKER for updated drivers.

Solve : Flickering Windows Sceen?

Answer»
On my Toshiba Satellite A 205 runing Windows Vista Home Prem.   There is a flicker around all four edges of the window. In addition if I try to acess any tols on toolbars the LICKER hmpes  (hampers) opening the resource.  Aso as I type this- TE spelling is a reslt fo the flicker. It is somehow skipping letters as I tyoe (SPELLING). If I left click for copy, cut, paste, paragraph ETC, the dropdown window flikers off and on.  Same with Bookmarks and everything else. Has affected my ability to sign into comcast email account.

FLICKERING, SKPPING LETTERS,boot into safe mode :
turn it off
turn it on and as soon as you see the bios
start tapping F8 untill you see a black screen
and choose safe mode with networking
now
does it still do it?Thanx, I tried that but it's still happening.

The flicker is in the top line where I see File -Edit-View-History - Bookmarks - etc. And then above right at the minimize, restore down, and red X close button.  It flickers/flutters/flashes on all 4 sides of a window - for instance - when I've opened a Word Doc. Also drop down menus - drop down- but roll up almost too quickly to click on anything. Ive been able to time it and catch a resource but its a race against  time!

The spelling or dropped letters issue seems to have cleared  up - somewhat - since i went to safe mode and back to normal again.  Any other thoughts appreciated. Its driving me nuts.

Thanx

4 possablitys
1:corrupted display driver
2:bad video card/chip
3:malware
4:missing or bad system files If the flickering happens also in Safe Mode, most likely, you have a problem with video chip, which in case of a laptop can't be replaced (unless you send it back to the manufacturer, and pay what is probably more than the laptop is worth).but there is a chance of corrupted system files
such as user32.dllNo.yesSource, please.i have no source
but replaceing user32.dll and shell32.dll
is sure easier then replacing a graphics chip
just trying to think of software solutions
i was wrong to say i could cause thatWhatever. I have no time for this...smeezekitty, you don't know what you're talking about.  Just stop.  Come back when you've learned a thing or two about computers and how they work.  Actually...don't...

Paco833,
I apologize that you have had the misfortune of this person posting in your topic.  It's a bit of a nuisance on the forum that we are currently dealing with and will HOPEFULLY have cleared up soon.

Now, this isn't really my area of expertise, but I've got a few questions that will hopefully help take us in the right direction...
1.  Is your laptop still under warranty by any chance?

2.  How long has this been happening?

3.  In the event that it may be malware...what protection do you have on your computer?  Have you run any scans lately?  An infection is quite unlikely in your case, but there's a possibility that it could be an underlying problem.  The flickering could be a hardware problem and the typing issue could be a malware problem.

4.  Does this problem happen constantly or only at certain times?  What kinds of devices are normally around your computer?  If you physically move it to another room or opposite end of the house, does the problem persist?  It's possible that something nearby could be causing interference.  Radios, cell phones, or anything else that transmits/receives signals.  Speakers can also cause strange issues like this in some cases, as well as electrical wires that aren't properly grounded.  Heck, I've even heard of boilers causing interference problems.  A quick and simple test would be to take the laptop outside or to a friend's house and see if it still acts up.  If it does, then at least you can probably rule out inteference.

5.  Are you absolutely sure that this is causing problems with typing?  I'm not trying to call you a bad typist or anything, but do you think that it MIGHT just be a coincidence?  I ask this because some Toshiba models are prone to failing LCD inverters.  If that's the case, you could fix it for about $50 or so.  But this problem wouldn't have any impact on your typing.

If interference is not the culprit here, then Broni may be right.  I hope he's not, but it's a distinct possibility.  And if so, then he's also right about how difficult it is to do something about this.  You can upgrade the graphics card on some laptops, but I'm pretty certain it can't be done with your particular model.  Sure, there's always some possible way, but like he said, it wouldn't really be worth it.  If you'd like, you can take a look at this informative page:

Solve : Explorer drag and drop problem?

Answer»

I am on windows 7. Running on a DELL Vostro 1000. Before I had windows xp on this LAPTOP. During that time, there was also a drag and drop problem along with a alt+tab problem. Basically, it would automatically"let GO" every 3 seconds. So I couldn't alt tab unless I did it really fast, and I couldnt drag and drop SOME things in explorer. Also, i work with adobe flash cs4 so if your familiar with that somet things wouldnt really work in there as WELL. They would work, i would be typing in some x or y coordinates in the properties pane and it would reset as i was doing this. So i would have to type it in really fast.

THEN i downloaded and installed windows 7. Everything works fine. No more of that alt+tab problem, and none of that drag and drop problem. Also, i would hover over a object, it would actually show the details of it without disappearing! i was happy...but then it suddenly decided to stop working..help?

Solve : ok, brand new pc..suddenly wont load profile?

Answer»

ok so i bought a nice new pc from an overclocking website, everything was absolutely pefect until one i turn it on and suddenly i get a message saying it hasnt LOADED my profile correctly and telling me to check the event loggs. Im pretty new to pc's and thought oh maybe if i leave it, it may fix it self. A few days went by and everytime i turn it on i get the same message ( by the way its like starting from the start everytime i logg in, like a brand new pc almost). i still sorta ignored it until today when i turned it, it said `loading profile (screen goes black) then comes up with a user(which IVE never had before, normally would just load straight to start page). so i thought hmm maybe it fines now but when i CLICKED on the user profile it just syas LOGGING off then the screen goes black and it goes straight back to the user profile page which i had just clicked on. It keeps doing this.

please help me and guide me to fix this as its very important i use the pc by the end of tommorrow, thanks for any help  Quote from: jmatthewS on August 29, 2009, 08:37:54 AM

It's obvious that someone else has USED this computer before and they may have overclocked some of the hardware before you got it which could cause instability..

Are you able to boot the computer into Safe Mode?   Turn on the computer, and tap the F8 key until you come to Advanced Options.... Select "safe mode" and see if it will boot without problems...

What is the make/model of the computer, if any....If you don't know, what is the make model of the motherboard..

Solve : Can't Click, Desktop Icons Don't Open, Weird Cursor?

Answer»

I really hope this issue can be solved EASILY.  I have no idea what I did but it obviously was really stupid and here I am begging for help.

This morning when I started up, everything was fine.  It was the time I read one of those news stories on a timer that switches to the next image that this problem came.  When one tab opened, it would open like 2 or 3 others with it.  They would stay open and now I see that if I click on them, they automatically close.  It made it difficult to register here and compose this because the tab would be lost and then when I tried to close the others, the rest would close too.

I also cannot click anything on a website.  I have to keep clicking like 10 times before the blinking cursor lets me know it is alright to type.  I also cannot hightlight anything or backspace.  Naturally, this makes it tough to navigate around.

I first noticed something was wrong when I could not open with a single double click any icon on my desktop.  I can only get through by a right click.  And once I right click to open, I get the multiple tabs open.

And finally, my regular WHITE arrow/flashing loading circle icon is now some circle with two arrows and a dot.  Almost like the arrow that comes when trying to move windows.  It is useless and I can hardly click anything with it.

I have no idea what I did that caused this but I would extremely grateful if ANYONE can post any solutions.  Please.    I can't understand exactly what you're talking about, but I have a suspicion that your hard drive is cluttered, have too many programs may be running at the same time, and may have some viruses as well..

Start by going into the Configuration Utility and disabling all programs in the "start up" tab.  Click START, type "RUN" in the search box, click on "RUN" when it appears.. type  msconfig and click on "OK"    When the configuration utility appears on your screen, click on the "start up" tab, click "disable all", click "apply" click "ok" and then restart your computer....

Now try doing some of your normal activities and see if any of your problems have been corrected...

You may want to clean out your Temp Internet files as well...run diskclean and defrag from Start/Accessories...
Let them run to COMPLETION and walk away while they run...I don't think it has anything to do with your hard drive. Have you rebooted SINCE the problem appeared? Have you emptied your Temporary Internet Files? Have you tried a different browser (for example, if you're using IE try Firefox and see if you have the same problem). Have you scanned your system with an AV and either MalwareBytes or Super Antispyware? Let's try these things and see what happens.

Solve : Intalling a newer version of epson printer?

Answer»

>:(I'm trying to install a newer epson printer.Had an old one.I used 3 different uninstallers for old epson.Tried removing old printer in program files, program data, and app data.Did it.Now Epson comes up with a screen saying"An earlier version of Epson Photo Print is ALREADY installed. If you want to continue installing printer close Epson Photo Print,Control panel and windows Explorer. How do I close Explorer?I've been at it for 10 and 1/2 Hours.Very Frustrating!!!!!.Also tried re ~installing  New Epson 4 times, and than Screen comes up.11 minutes to FINISH,Can any one help with this??Would be Muchly APPRECIATED. Wow... I see you have GOT yourself into a sort of mess here:
First I would suggest using http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner to fix the orphaned registry entries that you have created by manually deleting the old Epson Print software. The installer is detecting these registry entries, thus claiming you already have "an earlier version of Epson Photo Print."

Also, close all Explorer windows-they may be accessing files the installer needs to proceed with.

Solve : DRIVE BACKUPS?

Answer»

Hi guys!    Does anyone know how to backup your drive to 'another' drive?  (image I mean)

I recently took an image of my C: drive and ended up having to replace it physically with another hard drive.  When I tried to reinstall the image of the old drive to the new one, it wouldn't work!

I had to start all over again.

Is it possible to transfer images to other drives does anyone know, or are we stuck with having to use the same dive?    This is OK until the  drive needs replacing!       This has been hashed over and over many times. If you are using an integrated package solution from Western Digital or Se agate, there should be no problem. The issues arise when different users try different software and hardware without fully understanding what is going on.

Some backup solutions can backup most of your stuff, but not restore the system when it no longer works. To RESOLVE that issue, one has to prepare a backup plan that includes total failure of the OS. That requires a special CD that can boot up the PC and restore from a backup device that has a true image of the system.

The link below is for one of the oldest superior products.
http://www.acronis.com/homecomputing/products/trueimage/
Hi!! I don't what to jump in to a topic that has been solved. Geek_9pm is right. If you replace a drive and have a image on a external drive, you should have a new drive at least as large as the drive you are replacing. W7 will warn you to make a recovery CD that you can boot to, should you ever have a hard drive failure; which happened to me. I know that Macrium Reflect and Paragon will help you make this CD also. I suppose acronis does the same thing. I'm a big fan of making a back up image of your OS, but have failed to warn people to also have a way to boot when you have a total failure and your HD just dies. I have so many recovery boot disks, I don't know which one to try first I have  WINDOWS, Bart, Macrium Reflect, Paragon. My only trouble would be which one to try first I guess if a guy was really smart , he would restore a image on a secondary HD. put it in a drawer until he needed it. I think I have all the bases covered , but who really knows. Computers are enough to cause a person to drink.
PS I have restored a image to a cold HD with Macrium Reflect and it worked perfectly. Here's a little trick I learned to get around a recovery CD. Use you rescue CD to put Windows back to out of the box; then use your back up image to restore the back up image you made before your HD died. That worked for me. I replaced my HD; went back to out of the box and then used a back up image I created on a external drive to put me back to the day I created that image.
What do you think Geek_9pm?? Will that work?? Quote

Yeah, I have don that. But I would not recommend it. Quote

I agree that that best way is a W PE or Bart PE or a CD from the back up program. Maybe I misunderstood the OP.

Hmmmm, Thanx here guys for this feed back.   Just found out that I will be needing a new C: very shortly so I will be following what you say here.  You are right about the drinking... gona start (lol) Here's something I put together a while back. See if anything here is helpful:

Disk Imaging software TAKES a "snapshot" of your drive as it exists at the time you create the image. You can then restore the entire image or any file(s) or folder(s) you choose. It is a virtually foolproof way of backing up your system and providing a safe haven in the event of a catastrophe that requires you to blow away your system partition and restore it to a previous state. It also allows you to "test" various software and be confident that you have a the ability to return to the prior state any time you choose.

I use Acronis True Image. It is the best of breed, but it isn't free. The best free alternative is Macrium Reflect.

1) I create an image of my system partition once a week to a second hard drive and keep the 2 or 3 most recent images. I also image my other partitions about once a month. I always ENABLE "verify image" in the options. It takes a little longer, but insures a valid image.

2) I also create an image before performing any drive level function (ie, changing the size of a partition) or making any significant change to the OS (installing a service pack, upgrading IE, etc). Also sometimes before installing new software.

3) Images may be created on any medium (cd, dvd, external drive, etc). For obvious reasons they should not be stored on the same drive you are imaging. The best option is a second internal hd if you have one.

4) Images may be created "in the background" within the OS. If you need to restore the system partition, that will need to be done before the OS loads. You can start the process within the application in the OS and it will then tell you it needs to reboot to finish the process. Alternatively, you can boot to a "recovery disk" which you can create when you first INSTALL the software (or to the application disk itself if you have one). Other partitions can be restored without a reboot.
Hi! Very nice reply Allan. Well explained. I have been using Macrium Relect for a long time. It has never let me down. I would just like to add that Macrium has a feature that allows you to mount your image. If will assign a drive letter to the image and allow you to copy and paste from it. It is a read only, so you can't change any thing, but great for grabbing a file ect, then copy and paste it back on your C drive. It is free, but the pro version has more bells and whistles. Also would like to add. Make a recovery CD right away and make sure you can boot with it. I really like the back up feature in W7. I use both. I also use Paragon. W7 back up and Paragon don't require you to use a recovery disk unless you can't boot your PC (Example your hard drive dies) I don't like starting over from out of the box. I fresh install can be good some times , but it's a lot of work.
Thanks!!

Find links here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_backup_softwareWow! Now that's quite a list!! No reason not to find one and use it regularly Guys I am knocked out by your responce here, but I still have the problem of having to get a new HD.   How can I safely get the system image of my knackerd drive on to the new one?   Create a boot or recovery disc with whatever imaging software you are using, boot to it, and restore the imageHi fellas, Listen, I have Acronis and Macrium gizmos, but they are both from computer mags.   Acronis says that it is not compatable with my Win 7, so it looks like an XP job.  Macrium gives me two choices of format LINUX and PE?   If I choose the PE it dosn't work.    This leaves me with a Paragon gizmo, again from a mag, but it appears to work.  I have just made a bootable CD from it.

How does PARAGON rate with you guys?    The recent versions of Acronis True Image are most certainly compatible with W7 Quote
How does PARAGON rate with you guys?
Paragon is great. I have a friend that is a PC clean freak. He restores his PC once a week with Paragon. He says he likes a fresh PC.
That's just a little over board for me. I have restored my OS with the recovery disk and without the disk. If your going to replace your HD, you will need the recovery disk. The only way I know that you don't need the disk is to restore back to factory and then down load Paragon and restore your image. The recovery disk is the best way to go.
I don't know if this will work. I'm going to try to attach a Zip file.

Solve : virtual drive?

Answer»

i am trying to play some games i have downloaded from games.co.uk but when i click on the game it is saying please put in the correct cd but i dont have a cd i downloaded it from games.
so i asked games. and they said somthing about virtual DRIVE how do i go into my comp to see if i have virtual drive and how do i disable this drive to play the games.
can anybody help please caz.do not pirate games
the reason they dont WORK is because the pirate protection does
quit pirateing games
Smeezekitty,

You need to do some research before you let your fingers start typing. Games.co.uk is a legit site that you can play games for free on (kind of like PLAYING games on yahoo or pogo). They also offer games that you can buy. If you buy the game they will either ship it to you on cd/dvd or you can download it and they will email you the registration key. There are a lot of online stores that now offer a down loadable version of any games that you legitimately buy.

Keep in mind that not all downloaded games are pirated games.

Gunner,

I believe you will need to set up a virtual drive to run your games. This will trick the computer into thinking that you have the cd in the actual cd drive. Now I am not FAMILIAR enough with setting one up to advise you on it however there are others on here that I am sure will be willing to help you with this. Just to follow on from mroilfield I do have experience with virtual drives.
Download http://www.daemon-tools.cc/eng/downloads

Then you need to create a virtual drive. Once created you will have to mount the image. So access the new drive and search for the file that the game is in e.g ISO image.
Once mounted the computer will believe the CD is in the drive.
That was the basic LESSON on how to do it, if you need more comprehensive help then let me know.

Solve : Cant start up windows?

Answer»

Hello
I was GOOGLING the WEB to see if I could speed up the startup-time for my PC, and I found this posted by someone in a forum:
"msconfig -> services -> hide all microsoft services -> uncheck these if they exist: xaudio, vongo, stllsvr,roxmediad89, installdriver table manager, cyberlink background, cyberlink task,

Then click on boot tab ->advanced options -> number of processors 2 -> maximum memory."

I did this and now I cant start up Windows at all, just before the log-in screen I get a blue screen with a text that disappear before I have any time to read it. Is there any way to change it all back to my previous settings without entering Windows?

I have a stationary Dell, 2,4 dual-core, 2GB Windows Vista Service PACK 2Boot to safe mode and reset everything to the way it was. While there, go to System Properties - Advanced - Startup & Recovery Settings and uncheck "automatically restart"The same thing happens when I try the safe modeFollow the instructions...As the system starts to boot tap the F8 key. You should get to a screen with several boot options - CHOOSE "Disable restart on error" (not sure of the exact wording). Reboot. What is the blue screen error message you now see?OK, the blue screen says:
"Check for viruses om your computer. Remove any newly installed hard drives or hard drives controllers. Check your hard drive to make sure it is properly configured and terminated. Run CHKDSK /F to check for hard drive CORRUPTION, and then restart your computer.

*** STOP: 0x0000007b (0x80399BB0, 0x00000000, 0x00000000)"1) Boot to the Recovery Console and run chkdsk /r
2) Boot to your AV disc and run a scan
3) Can you now boot to either normal or safe mode? if not then

4) Boot to the XP CD and choose the SECOND repair option and do a repair install.I'm really sorry for not knowing this but what is my AV disc?  Sorry. The cd for your Anti Virus utility. I'd like you to run a scan at boot.Im afraid I dont have any Anti-Virus disc, nor do I have any OS-disc since Vista was factory-installed. Do you think it would be better if I called some expert to come and check my computer, or would this be useless and should I just buy a new OS?Sorry - forgot this was a Vista issue and not XP.

1) You can download a bootable AV utility (http://www.techmixer.com/kaspersky-rescue-disk-load-kaspersky-antivirus-2009-using-dos/)
2) Can you borrow a Vista Disk and boot to the Repair Options?Ok, i´m going to try that tomorrow, its getting late here in Sweden. But thanks alot for the help so far!I'm afraid I haven't been much help so far, but you're welcome Vista Repair CD Quote from: patio on August 29, 2009, 11:45:51 AM

Solve : Performance drop... Vista Related??

Answer»

Hi,

I had been experiencing extreme slowness by my computer for a couple of weeks now, and could not find the source of this, so I decided to reformat my computer. (Everything seemed fine one NIGHT, and the next morning, everything was very slow). Before reformatting, I ran every antivirus and antispyware I know of, and they all said everything was clean.

So as I said, I decided to reformat. However, my computer (core 2 duo 2.00 GHz with 2GB of RAM) is still extremely slow for a system that has just been whiped out cleanly. I doubt this is caused by Vista since the problem was there before I reformated (and I had XP Pro then) and it's probably a hardware problem, but I'm stuck!

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks! How does the system respond in safe mode?Hi ADG,

I just STARTED the system in safe mode, and it was a bit better, but still nowhere close to what you would expect. (Last night, my CPU usage was hovering around 50%... when it was idle!)

Thanks,

NickOkay - you should have told us that right off. Boot to normal mode and open Task Manager to the Processes tab. Sort on the cpu column with highest usage at the top (double-click the "cpu" title at the top of the column). When the system slows, see which process is eating the cycles and report back.Hi ADG,

Fact is, the computer is always slow; it took my 4 minutes for the Task Manager to open! Anyway, when all programs are closed (and the computer is still very slow), not one process is over 10 000 K, which I believe is normal. Before the sudden performance drop, I could have more and bigger processes running all at the same time and everything was fine.

Thanks!I didn't say ram, I said cpu. You said the cpu is running at 50% and I asked which process is hogging the cpu. PLEASE do as I asked.Oh, sorry I misunderstood you. Anyway, all of the processess are at 0. Sometimes, the Task Manager got up to 04 or 05, but it was the only one above 0.

Thanks!Okay, just keep task manager open on your desktop and when the cpu spikes take a look and see which process it is.ADG,

Even when the CPU "spikes", all of the process indicate 00. If I have absolutely nothing running, it still takes me about 15-20 seconds to open My Computer or IE, but none of the process indicate anything besides the occasional 01 from Task Manager...Impossible. If the cpu spikes then one of the running processes has to spike also. Did you sort the cpu column as I suggested? In the Task Manager make sure that you have checked the box for 'Show processes from all users'.So, I just come back from work 5 hours after my last post, and find my computer shut down. Thinking we may have had a power outage or whatever, I just turn it on but the monitor just won't respond. It insists on telling me "No signal"... so I guess this could be a video card problem? It definitely LOOKS like some hardware problem.
I doubt, it's the monitor, since the problems started before "no signal" message.

What brand and model of the computer is it?
On-board video, or separate video card? Are your fans clean? Check BIOS for M-Board and HDD temp. Thanks Broni and Centurion for your replies.

It is a computer I built myself 2 years ago. It has a seperate video card, an EVGA 8800 GTS.

And my fans are cery dusty... could this be the problem? I, however, cannot access the BIOS since my monitor stays blank!

Solve : How much would my laptop be worth if I were to sell it??

Answer»

I have a Hp G60 121WM 16:9 widescreen with 3 GB of memory, and 160 GB ( more LIKE 139 including OS). It has a 2.00 GHz AMD Sempron single core processor. It has an activated Windows 7 Ultimate edition build 7600 32-bit OS with Windows Dreamscenes enabled. It has Microsoft office 2007 PRO plus with word, exel, access, outlook, publisher, powerpoint, and Infopath. My laptop also has a recovery drive with the Windows Vista home premium files on it. I have 2 bootable recovery discs so the recovery drive can be accessed or so you can install vista directly from the disc's. the laptop has a Nvidia GEFORCE 8200m g graphics card with 1407 MB of total available graphics and with 256 MB of shared memory. The Microsoft office suite itself is worth $500. Also take in mind that Windows 7 isn't expected to be released until the 22th of October 2009. This Windows 7 build is genuine and is not an RC build. It is also an Ultimate version not a Home Premium version.

Apparently the OP either needs or wants to sell it other wise I doubt they would have posted the question.

Brisingr.

I am not sure how much you could get for it but you could call some local computer shops and see what they would offer or try Ebay and see what you can get.Win7 hasn't been released yet so you don't have a genuine copy.I think you're unlikely to get much for that.  the single core CPU makes it unattractive to many buyers, plus laptops lose their value extremely quickly, especially when used.
if the screen and keyboard are in good condition and there are no bad scuffs or scratches, I think here it may be worth around £250-300.If it had a dual core I would say around $500, but due to the single core cpu I would say around $400 Quote from: patio on August 29, 2009, 03:08:56 AM

Solve : Help cleaning D: drive SAFELY, fix slowness, error messages and thoughts on wh?

Answer»

I don't know where to begin to help my computer.
I have an
HP desktop - model a6030n
running;
Vista Home Premium - sp 2
AMD Anthon(tm) 64X2 Dual CORE Processor 4800+
2.00 GB Ram
32 bit OS
Sound and video cards - I don't know
McAfee Security
SUPERAntispyware - free edition
Malwarebytes - Anti-MALWARE
Ccleaner
Here are a list of events and a list of problems.
In June of this year My computer crashed.  I knew of  no good or bad reason for this to happen.  Although now I know that

this probably didn't happen WITHOUT a reason.
I had already set up another user account and was able to access it. I don't remember how it happened but I ended up

deciding to reinstall my OS. So I did and was over joyed to see it running. ( Now I realize that there was probably a reason

for it to happen and probably a different way to handle the crash ) but what's done is done. I have worked on this computer

now for about 3 months after that happened with nothing more than normal happenings.  That is until now.
Let me list the things that I would like to resolve,
D:  drive is too full. It is at less than 15% free.
running slow
error messages - among others is one that says concerning Trying to access Windows Defender - "Application failed to

initialize; 0x880106ka. A problem cause this programs service to stop........" Could this be beibg caused by that unwanted

Norton?
Right after the reinstalled I noticed that the D: drive showed up in red so I tried to access it by going through the right click

- explore- explore but this way was a dead end. I was not allowed past a certain point.  Now I think there is another way but

I'm afraid to do anything in case I ruin it. I ran a Reliability and PERFORMANCE test and it showed the disk checks test failed

and it showed the one problem was the d: drive. While running this test I found a copy of Norton.  It showed that it is enabled

although I never downloaded or enabled it. I use McAfee.
A few weeks aqgo when starting my computer a message came up that the fans weren't working so I cleaned and vacumned

the inside of the computer and that seems to have solved it. I  moved the unit up so it is next to me and I check it periodically

to see if it is still working.
The computer is running slow and has gotten very, very, very slow within the last couple of days, even on the Internet.  I

disconnected an unused router and that didn't speed things up, uninstalled unused programs and stopped startup programs

not used and that didn't work,
It has had more and more error messages coming up.
Since June 10th 2009 I have constantly updated and ran scanns with the Super Anti-Spyware, Malwarebytes and Ccleaner

[recommended by you for another computer I have trouble with] I do this  for both drives.
Defraged the C: and D: drives a couple of times,
So I think I'm asking for help with checkng the D: drive up SAFELY, fix slowness and error messages and  getting rid of the

symantec- Norton thing.
I hope someone can help me. I don't want another crash when I could prevent it.
Thank you ahead for your help.  Debra

sound like you may have malware
I know what you mean, but I have been running that Malware bytes regularly but lately it has shown up that nothing was on the computer. Quote

I ran a Reliability and Performance test and it showed the disk checks test failed

It 's time to start shopping for a new HDD.May I ask why? and please  I would really appreciate it if you would run a scenario by me on how this might have happened and how to not have a MESSED up computer next time. Also, could you address the subject of getting into the D: drive ?

the only way to fix is reformat and reinstall

And again more nonsense

If the file system is corrupt on the hd (and it may be) you need to boot to the recovery console and run chkdsk /r
And read this: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/555302 Remove hard drive. Put it back.
Do the same with RAM.I tried running chkdsk/r and it says type of file system is NFTS. Cannot lock current drive. You need to follow instructions. I said to boot to the recovery console and run chkdsk /rMy mistake then. How do I boot to the recovery console? I'm going to apologize because I'm sure I'll ask a lot of beginner questions
with the windows cdAsk all you like - no apology necessary. Just please follow the instructions.
Boot to your XP CD and choose the first recovery option (press "R"). That will take you to the recovery console. Once there run chkdsk /r
It will take a while to run - let it finish. Quote from: smeezekitty on August 29, 2009, 03:01:29 PM
with the windows cd
Now there's a helpful postWill the xp disc work even though  running vista?LOL - no - This one is MY mistake and I apologize. I thought we were in the XP forum - second time I did that today.

Boot to the Vista Disk and choose the repair options then command prompt and run chkdsk /r from there. If that doesn't work try startup repair and if that doesn't work do a system restore

DLoad Sequoia View and see what's taking up your space...ok ill download that and get back to youi ran this and the math that i did comes up to 82 gigs then that still doesn't account for nearly 80 gigs of dataIt should show all usage of the HDD...
Where are your other readings coming from ? ?
my computer window and defraggeler they say that 155 sequioa says 99.1 gigs have been usedHere is another possible symptom is Microsoft Internet Explorer has stopped working properly, and I reset it and again today it started again saying that its stopped working properly.what is the most simple way to start from scratch and just do a full wipe... since i don't have the boot cd or pin number. i could order a vista cd from hp but with windows 7 coming out in november i'd rather just reformat or try to wait it out.. idk is the a way to just allow write to the HDD using my approval for all writes and the data that i don't allow to not write?sure thats a good idea
you may only get asked evrey 2-15 seconds
hope you can keep pressing enter or the mouse button
If this is a "Brand New" laptop then it should have come with either some recovery disk or have a recovery partition on it. If it has neither I would contact the vendor you bought it from or HP directly and get a set of recovery disk from them.

Solve : Drive letter's everywhere.?

Answer»

Hi. I have two computers both run win 7 ultimate, if I plug a pen drive in to the usb it is ASSIGNED a drive letter in my computer that will disappear as soon as the pen drive is removed.

The other machine still shows the drive letter even when the pen drive is removed, I have lots of drive letters now and would really like it to act the same as the other machine.

Thanks in advance. Chris
Are you unplugging it without using "safely remove hardware" in the tray ? ?And as for assigning the same drive letter to both systems, you can do this from within Disc Management. Sometimes it sticks, sometimes not.YES I have but the other machine SEEMS to drop the drive letter automatically which is how I would like both machines to work, they are both the same o/s so I would guess there MUST be a setting somewhere that’s different. If you don't want to risk losing all your data on a USB stik or an external HDD you need to get in the habit of using safely remove...or you could learn the hard way....
If you want to have the stik retain it's drive letter designation then in Disk Management give the stik a Volume label...

NOTE: It's important to pick a drive letter that you know will always be available on both PC's...something in the middle of the alphabet.O.K,  how do I remove the drive letters that are now unused and cluttering up my computer. Quote from: aussie11 on March 05, 2012, 09:10:34 AM

O.K,  how do I remove the drive letters that are now unused and cluttering up my computer.

Right clik the drive in My Computer and select remove/delete...
Make sure they're the correct ones.I have tried that but the delete is greyed out. Then do it vis Disk Management...I tried that too, again the delete is greyed out. Quote from: aussie11 on March 05, 2012, 08:44:13 AM
I have lots of drive letters now ...
Are you saying the number of drives keeps increasing?  If so, that's strange.  How many drives now?  How many are valid?   Does that computer have slots for camera memory cards?  That could account for some drive letters.   Yes I now have six drive letters and only two are valid I just wondered what will happen when I get to Z.

No slots, it originally only had two drive letters C: and D: but they seem to be breeding, nothing else has been added, just the use of pen drives.
Do you have an internal card reader? No card reader. I have GOOGLED this earlier and read something  about ext2 file system causing this problem; any thoughts from those more learned than me.Go to Start/Run and type in sfc /scannow and hit Enter...
Let it run to completion and re-boot...

NOTE: There is a space between sfc and the/scannow switch.

Solve : Security acceptions and downloading?

Answer»

Everytime I try to log into something that needs a PASSWORD it comes up with that guy with the yellow sign. Saying get me out of here or add security ACCEPTION. It also will not download anything from online. How can I fix this? What "guy" is this and what security apps do you have INSTALLED currently ? ?Its just the lil pic saying security risk. I have the normal security SETTINGS that come with the vista package. i havent installed anything else. It is just the window that pops up with three options one says "get me out of here" the other says "add security acceptation" Quote from: Ranger1992 on March 06, 2012, 02:34:06 PM

That is built-into browsers and is there for a reason.
It means the site has a bogus or expired security certificate.
It is a rather sever warning.
It is not like the waterman saying 'Gusts of wind today is some places.'
More like the man saying 'Tornado warning 100 yards near your house.'

Of curse, the site might be harmless.
And the tornado could miss your house.

Solve : explorer help in windows 7.?

Answer»

Dear GUYS and Girls.
RUNNING windows 7 and need some help. When in windows explorer I can’t get to see what’s in my main files. For example, Say I am scrolling down the left hand menu using the keyboard up down left and right arrows and move down from my music to my pictures with XP I used to see what was in the files in the main window. If I click from my music to my pictures then it SHOWS what is in the folder but I can’t seem to get this to work using the keyboard. I tried expanding all files in explorer tree  but that didn’t work. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Does it work when you use a mouse ?yes it does.
Can i ask, Why use the arrow keys when you have a mouse ?Doesn't work for me either in Explorer, but it does in Directory OPUS. I've actually never tried before now so I don't know if this is the normal behavior in Windows Explorer - I'm guessing it is.
