Solve : Unable to move a 8.22 GB file to a 16 GB thunb Drive?

Answer»

Excellent to hear you are all fixed up and thanx for posting back with an update...7-zip is another alternative to HJSplit.  7-zip can actually join HJSplit'd files and ALSO handle common archive formats LIKE .zip, .rar, etc., as well as its own .7z format (which its compression, at Ultra settings, is pretty darn insane).I didn't know that KILLER...Thanx for the HEADS up...YEAH 7-Zip does everything. Well worth it, considering it's free. Quote from: R Oregon on June 14, 2010, 05:33:48 PM

Don't know why I didn't think to try that earlier.

Probably another one of those senior moments. You should really have that checked out.

I am just kidding, of course. I just couldn't resist.

Solve : Unable to load Windows 7?

Answer»

I have just upgraded an old computer to windows 7 SONY Vaio vgn-c1s.  All the drivers installed ok and has been WORKING fine.  I just restarted the computer and the screen shows the bios start up then it goes off and looks for the cd or hard drive to boot from and the screen goes blank.  When I press any of the keys ie caps key the light does not going on.  When I boot to cd the screen again goes blank no updates or anything have been installed.  I have tried to boot into safemode but again the screen just goes off?  It was running very well no issues before I have tried a few times just to wait and see if it loads but nothing.   Anyone got any ideas on this?  As I am a little confused why its no longer working and not sure what could be or to try now?Since the Caps Lock light is not turning on or off after POST, then it "hard-froze" before getting to the splash screen.  This could be caused by a number of things:

1) Bad RAM
2) FAILING hard drive
3) Corrupt boot files (which could be indicative of #2 as well)
4) Corrput bcd database
5) Incompatible BIOS

Reboot from the Windows 7 DVD and select "Repair My Computer."  See if it finds anything wrong with the bcd database, boot sector, hard drive, etc.

Alternatively, Google for and download Memtest 86+.  Burn the .iso to a CD-R (or CD-RW if you want), and boot from that.  If there's ANY red on the bottom of the screen, then that means there's bad RAM.  Otherwise, after a few passes, if everything checks out, then it's very likely NOT a RAM issue.

You could try flashing the BIOS, but only after trying all of the above first.  You may have to do it from a bootable CD or flash drive if your laptop doesn't have a floppy drive.    Quote from: killerb255 on June 13, 2010, 09:54:46 PM

Hey thanks for your reply I have already tried to run the windows 7 repair but when I boot from cd the same happens the screen just goes?  I am going to try removing the RAM and see if it fixes it.  I have another hard drive I am going to see if I am able to use it or not later today.    Quote from: killerb255 on June 13, 2010, 09:54:46 PM

And,
6) Bad/failing power supplyGot a new hard drive and it did the same when trying to load.  I removed the 1GB memory stick and left it with 2GB and worked fine.  The old hard drive still works but now got 250GB which works just used hard drive clone to copy the hard drive and drivers.

It is all fixed ordered a 2GB memory chip to get it to 4GB RAM.  Thanks for your help with this I was lost thinking it was maybe a dead laptop. Oh, I didn't realize it's a laptop when I posted the comment about power supply.

Anyway, glad to to hear problem resolved.   Thanks for keeping us posted.I think your HDD or Ram is corupted, olz go to a repair shop
Thnx...........

Try following method to get rid of loading problem.
1) TAKE OUT YOUR LAPTOP BATTERY
2) REMOVE YOUR AC ADAPTOR CORD, that's the wall power, remove it.
3) NOW HOLD DOWN THE POWER BUTTON FOR 30 SECONDS

That will drain any static electricity that has built up on your laptop system board and many times fixes the problem of a black screen. After the 30 seconds re-connect your laptop to the wall power and hit the power button normally and see if the laptop comes back up.

Solve : Two questions: .dll and disk management (unrelated)?

Answer»

I want to know if I can delete these .dll files from the main directory in C. I believe they were put there temporarily to install something as they are labeled install.res.1234.dll; however, they are APPLICATION extensions and their description reads UI wrapper Resource DLL. The product which they are for is Visual studio... And there is a globaldata configuartion setting for microsoft visual C++. Why did it store this here and can I move or delete it without screwing it up? I believe this is needed for some games so I would prefer the software usable.

Disk management - I recently deleted Ubuntu and now I have 60gbs of free space. I think I've done this before and it allowed me to extend C: with the free space or allowed me to format the freespace to NTFS and then expand, but this time it says there is not enough space on the disk (to format) and there is no expand option. I haven't tried mounting it, but that is an option that I'm willing to do with a little advice on placement and use.

When I click delete partition on free space it tells me it's an extended partition, is that normal? This is my hdd: disk0 basic 465gb, 1.46gb first partition, C: 390 gb NTFS (boot, page file, primary), 60gb free space, 2.63gb primary and a 10.33 gb primary(which I think is vista). I wish to add the 60gb free space to C: Any information or advice is greatly appreciated, thank you. If you need any additional information just ask.

On a side note - My NVIDIA driver has blue screened me like 2 or 3 times in the past and did so again lately, where is this information dumped? I've looked for it and even googled it for help but no luck.

These temporary files are ERRONEOUSLY GENERATED by the INSTALLER into the system root directory instead of the temp directory.

These files are unnecessary and can be safely deleted from the system. The functioning of the runtime library will not be affected by this.
Its a known bug and is planned to be FIXED in VS2008 SP1.

Oh my word your spelling issues are truly epic.

On topic: Try going into PERSONALIZE by right clicking on the desktop, click on Display settings. Once there you should see an option 'How do I get the best display?'  Click on that and follow the instructions.. If you still have trouble get back to us and we will try other options.
P.s I would not worry about drivers etc.

I disagree...

Actually, yes and no.  Assuming that a proper graphics driver comes with Windows or is fed into the installation source at some point (i.e.: slipstreamed), the resolution will often default to the monitor's native resolution.  Perhaps in UNSCSpartan3's experiences, the native resolution just so happened to be the highest resolution that his monitors support.  However, this isn't always the case.

Solve : why would this show more than one network??

Answer»

I just had a power outage, and after that the wireless adapter wouldn't work so i had to uninstall the driver package for the atheros adapter. that fixed the adapter but now the problem i am faced with is limited connectivity to my d-link router and the network and sharing center shows that i am connected to two networks (my home network and an unidentified network).... Have others had this problem and if so what was done to resolve the problem..... thanksIn the Network and Sharing Center, click "Change Adapter SETTINGS."  What adapters are showing in the "Network Connections" window?it shows the standard Realtek NIC and then the Atheros wireless adapter as well.....it also shows a microsoft VIRTUAL wifi mini-port. the issue i have is when i OPEN the network and sharing center it shows the home network Dlink_HOME and it also shows an unidentified network. it will think about this for about a minute all the while changing between showing a single network and the multiple networks.... idk i think that i might have fixed it by deleting a lot of former network locations that i have accessed in the PAST. so this may no LONGER be an issue.

Solve : Screen goes black and computer freezes when mouse touches start button...help!?

Answer»

It's the weirdest thing. My computer has been fine until these past two days. Whenever I use my mouse to click on the start menu, immediately my screen goes black. The computer itself is still running, but it freezes up and won't do a normal shutdown if I hit the power button once.

It seems like it has something to do with Windows 7, so I tried doing a repair. It didn't work, though.

I've never heard of anything like this before, and so I'm wondering if anyone else has. If there's no solution, I'll end up having to reformat my hard drive and reinstall Windows all over again and start from scratch. I'd rather not do that though, so...help!

Thanks.Re-install the mouse drivers...
Try a BRAND new mouse...

We don't want you to have to reinstall either...What happens when you press the windows key on your keyboard? It does nothing. There's no reaction in the computer at all when I do anything, and the screen stays completely black. The only thing I can do is hold the power button in to shut it down. :/ Sometimes the cursor isn't even near the start button when it happens. It seems like it keeps getting worse...

And I know it's not the mouse because we plugged my computer into a different setup (different monitor, keyboard, mouse, everything) and the same thing was happening.Tap the F8 key repeatedly as the computer is starting up. This will open the advanced startup menu. Choose safe mode from the list of options. Does the screen still go black in safe mode?Dear Jessi, I have seen MANY computer virus videos and DESCRIPTIONS online.

I have seen many types of trojans that have the same reactions as you mentioned.
Do you have an antivirus program installed?

What happens if you click an icon on your desktop, E.G; Recycle bin?
Or, like previously mentioned, can you access safe mode on that computer?

Do you have the install disk? If so, PLEASE try using the repair option in the menu after inserting the disk and rebooting.

My suggestions.
---
Sources: My knowledge. It does not seem to happen in safe mode. If it does, I wasn't in safe mode long enough to see if it would happen, but usually it happens in a matter of minutes. So I think it's fine in safe mode.

I tried doing a repair from the install disk, but nothing changed. Like I SAID, it's getting worse. Now it's triggered by pure randomness. In the beginning, as long as I kept my mouse in the desktop and not near the start menu, it would be okay and I could be on for hours. But now, it goes off whenever. I was TRYING to transfer files onto a different hard drive, and while I was doing that transfer, it happened. So that's how I know it's getting worse.

There is no antivirus program installed on this computer, so I guess a virus could be an explanation. However, I was using my computer before and it was perfectly fine. I turned it off and left for a week, came back, turned it on, and it immediately started doing this. I don't see how a virus could have been caught during that time, but hey! There doesn't seem to be any other possible answer.

If it is a virus, is there any way to fix it? Or will I just have to do an OS wipeout?Problem fixed. Turns out it was the graphics card. We took it out, and it's been running fine. Strange!

Thanks for everyone's help!

Solve : My other laptop wont start!!?

Answer»

Turned it on as usual this morning all lights came on but nothing on screen and then went off after about 30 secondsI'll say it. We need more information, like what you were doing with it before it wouldn't start and whether or not you have tried USING a system repair disk. What operating system is installed on it (vista)? Can you access BIOS or go into safe mode? Try pressing the function keys at the top of the keyboard when your computer STARTS and just keep pressing them until you GET somewhere or it turns off. Sounds bad imo, nothing on screen is never good. Hopefully someone with more knowledge can help but they will still need more information, and in the mean time you should google this and try to get a system repair disk and see if you can boot from it. It would help if you could get into BIOS for that because otherwise you won't be able to change the startup order. Also make sure there are no SD adapters, external DRIVES, flash drives, memory sticks or CD/DVD's in the optical drives. The computer will sometimes try to boot from such THINGS if they are present.

Solve : delete files?

Answer»

how do i uninstall program mes that wont uninstall. all i get is massages saying FILE is missing unins000dat or saying the program does not exist. I believe Ive read somewhere you have to delete a NUMBER equivalent to the programI'm not SURE what your last sentence means (delete a number equivalent to the program), but if the uninstaller doesn't work you have a couple of options:

1) Reinstall the program to the exact same LOCATION and then uninstall it
2) Download and RUN Revo Uninstaller

Solve : Right click save box?

Answer»

When I right click on a picture the save as box does not come up anymore. I', using a lap-top and have external mouse and touch pad, neither works. I know the DIFFERENCE between what pics I can load. It stopped working for about 2 weeks and then started again for a day and then stopped. I've looked everywhere I know but can find no place to fix. HELP PLEASE as this is the way I can get pics of my Grandkids from FacebookWhat Browser are you using?> if it's IE try firefox or googlechrome. Works on mine. That might not be the PROBLEM but that's my best guess lol. I don't have IE so I can't test whether it works or not, but IE is usually the source of the problem (from what I've heard). Is it just on facebook or have you tried to save as any other pictures on the internet? You can test it by finding a picture of something random on google and then trying to save it.I use Firefox. I've tried on web pics, total. I tried using on different browsers but nothing works. That's what has got me stumpedCould be a driver problem. HMM, you may need conformation on this because I cannot guarantee it will work. You may be able to uninstall your mouse driver and then reinstall it. If you want to try, go to device manager and then mouse - you can uninstall your external mouse and it will prompt you to install it again when you plug the usb thingy back in. Or you can disable/re-enable both or uninstall the touch pad and it should reinstall on restart (maybe) or update the drivers if possible.
This might fix the problem even if it's not the cause. If you cannot right click anywhere (such as the desktop, or in other browsers and programs) then it's possible your mouse is simply broken. Thanks masmace. You were not exactly correct but you got me thinking so went to control and brought up programs. I noticed that their was only one mouse program listed and it was for the touch pad so figured they were connected.  Went to control panel home, brought up mouse and saw that both the touch pad and external were on so turned off the touch pad an what do you know, I got my save as box back. Sometimes we exsperenced people forget the simple things, like just turning something on or offRight lol. No problem.

Not sure what problem you're having, but I can tell you that you're using a 64-bit version of Windows.

64-bit programs will NOT run on 32-bit Windows.

32-bit programs will USUALLY run on 64-bit Windows, as long as they follow all the rules established for them to work in the WOW6432 emulation layer.

Therefore, you can install BOTH the 32-bit AND the 64-bit version of Java in 64-bit Windows.

Now, as far as Opera is concerned, we're not mind readers.  It WOULD help if you say exactly what the problem is that you're having with it...32-bit programs will always run on 64-bit windows, unless they need a 16-bit component or  TRY to do some goofy thunking or something.

However, one must also realize that a 64-bit program can only access 64-bit libraries- and a 32-bit program can only access 32-bit libraries.

So, a 64-bit program will require 64-bit plugins- and a 32-bit program (such as Firefox, Opera, etc) will only be able to use 32-bit plugins.

the 64-bit version of Java does not install a 32-bit PLUGIN.

Solve : Need help with my HP laptop battery?

Answer»

My power adapter won't charge my laptop anymore- the light won't come on (to signify it is charging), and battery back isn't even warm. The cord is incredibly loose, so I think it is my jack. Some local computer place SAID they needed to sauder the jack, which would run about $200. I bought this laptop 2 years ago for about $500 new, and in all honesty I want to sell it, so I shouldn't spend $200 to fix it to sell it for probably the same price.

My dilemma/question. I have a few important documents on there, and I'd LIKE to reset it for when I sell it, then just list it "as-is." I don't have them backed up (I know, I know), so I need to find a WAY to either charge the battery for an hour so I can get all the stuff off there that I need, or to be able to use the power adapter. Is there some clever way to achieve this? Tin foil or copper? Remote removal? Any IDEAS are greatly appreciated- I'm desperate here!2.5" laptop to IDE converter:

Solve : Blue Screens of Death/Freezing?

Answer»

Hello I'm New to this forum and I need some help.

I purchased a refurbished computer a while back, and it worked perfectly for around 6 months.  It began getting blue screens of death, or BSDs.  I know each specific BSD is to a different problem, and for a long time it stuck to 2-3 different BSD errors, including "MEMORY_MANAGEMENT" and "IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL", so I began to investigate and began swapping each of the 4 1g or 50mb RAM slots in and out, sometimes running with only one.   I also attempted to have a fresh install of Windows. I found this had little effect.  I ignored the problem for a while, around a year, but it has now become overwhelming and the different reasons or titles for the BSDs that have been OCCURRING have been multiplied.  Errors occur at different moments and seem to be random, during graphic intensive video games, opening a new task, attempting to access email.  Also, I've ran several scans for viruses and found none.    Below is a list of what has been occurring to my computer lately.

BSDs:
*IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL
*MEMORY_MANAGEMENT
*DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL
*BUGCODE_USB_DRIVER
A_PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA

NonBSDs:
*FREEZING Occurring a LOT.
*Rolling restarts.  While starting up, it will shut itself back down and display the "Windows has failed to START" screen.  This will occur over and over at times.
Error Message pops up on screen "You are about to restart because of the Plug and Play feature has unexpectedly stopped working."

*=One of the most typical/reoccurring errors.

Solve : Can't delete file - "Could not find item" - Windows 7?

Answer»

Windows 7 Ultimate 32bit
I have 2 files whose creation doesn't even make SENSE - They are both copies of 2 video files - both .flv.
They are both 0Kb and cannot be deleted as it SAYS that they are no longer located there.
I just did a clean install of 7 to clean up some things but I forgot to stop the folder that they are in being transferred so I don't think that they are 'ghost files'.

If anyone has an idea what on earth is going on, I would be incredibly THANKFUL as I can't delete the folder that they are in

Thanks!

[recovering disk space - old attachment deleted by admin]I worked it out.
I just MOVED them to another location (I couldn't do this before the REINSTALL so I never tried) and deleted them from there.

While I was running vista, and even now with 7, I KEEP GETTING Kernel Power errors. They're all the same: Source is Kernel-Power, Event ID is 41, Task category is (63). The computer sometimes reboots spontaneously, sometimes gives me wavy lines and then a BSOD, sometimes shuts down and refuses to start until I turn off the power and wait for a while. It seems to occur randomly, with neither rhyme nor reason. I did by a Back-UPS CS, thinking that it was brownouting. That helped for a little bit, but it's STARTED doing it again--12 times in the last week. I have hit the forums, and the tips seem to be all over the board--some people say it's the audio DRIVERS, others say it's a graphics issues, still others say it's a power issue...one guy even said his computer's case was shorting things out! Any help will be much appreciated, and if you need any more information, please don't hesitate to ask.  I'm completely stumped.

Solve : Keep getting "Corrupt installation" errors. Help??

Answer»

Hey guys,
Recently I've stumbled along a re-occuring error which happens every time I download and try to install a program.
Upon doing so, I am greeted with a "Corrupt installation file" message or a "NSIS error, due to corrupt file" message. So, therefore I'm unable to install / run these programs due to this.
It seems that everything I'm downloading is SOMEWHAT ''corrupt'', but it can't be.
I've tried multiple solutions, and still no fix.
I have tried ...
-even reformatting my laptop to factory settings
-using registry scans and fixing entries
-ran antivirus scans in safe mode
-re-downloading programs from different sources
-system restoring to previous dates
And a few other attempts to try fix it. But to no avail I am still given the "Corrupt file" or "NSIS error" message.

Anyone have any background information about this? Or any ideas of how to fix such a problem? Thankyou. ;3 Quote from: Fluctuation on June 15, 2010, 01:40:57 AM

See if this helps...Hi,

Try the following steps:

1.Clear your browser's cache.

2.Disable any download accelerators or managers and download the installer again.

3.Rename the installer so it is a simple one-word name with no special characters (without removing the .exe suffix)
Example: install.exe

4.Download the installer from another source approved by the software developer or publisher.
It might be corrupted on the server, or the connection to the server is unreliable from your location.

5.Update your anti-virus software (if INSTALLED) and download the installer again.

6.Disable your anti-virus software and download the installer again.

7.Download the installer using another computer and copy it to the original computer.

8.If you have the nVidia firewall installed, uninstall the program and download the installer again.

9.Scan for, and remove malware and viruses on your system.

10.Scan the hard drive using scandisk, chkdsk, or any other hard drive REPAIR tool. I have tried all this.
But my downloads are still not working.
Installation files are always corrupt when I download them no matter what.
I've turned off all firewalls, securities, antiviruses. I have also ran a few more scans but nothing.

Still need helpp. ><..Is this a dial-up connection ? ?Nope. This is a ADSL broadband connection. But I'm using the laptop at the moment so I'm connecting through wireless router.
It's nothing to do with the internet though. As my computer installs everything fine. Even my sister's own laptop installs everything fine.
But whatever I download on here is corrupt and I can't install anything. >
Check the size of the file before and after you download to confirm the full program has been downloaded.

Try it.Or you can down load the program on your sister computer and try to install on your computer.

Try it.Hadve you tried going into safemode or safemode with internet connection?Have you tried going into safemode or safemode with internet connection? Sorry for my mispelling.

Solve : Windows.old file in Win 7 upgrade install...?

Answer»

The question is, can I delete it?? A bit over 10 gigs of waste if it's not needed.  This was an UPGRADE from Vista install. Was done 12/07/09..... all is WELL, WINDOWS 7 is great!! Kind of forgot about it, until doing system scans, and saw it scanning all the .old stuff....
So, SINCE it's run for 6 MONTHS now, is it deletable?? Or are there "used" parts the system needs from there?? I know nothing about the needs/use of the .old backup, once the install is completed. Is it there in case of the install failing or what???
Thanks in ADVANCE.... Quote from: Hankster58 on June 21, 2010, 08:05:05 PM

Solve : computer freezes in regular mode but not safe mode?

Answer»

I am running vista 64bit after my son in law tried to install a game on my computer it started locking up. I can boot into reg mode and everything is FINE for about THREE minutes, but then it locks up and nothing works except the mouse pointer moves but you can't click on anything or type. When I boot into safe mode with networking everything seems fine, I can get on the internet and do anything you can normally do in safe mode.Have you tried a system restore yet?If it runs properly in safe mode this would indicate a Driver issue...
Check Device MANAGER for any Yellow !!'s...
I've tried system restore and all of my drivers seem to be fine,(no yellow) Left the computer run for awhile and when I went back everything was fine. Been running ever since until this morning when it did the same thing, again I left it and now it seems to be fine again. Can't figure out what's going on.I agree with patio that it's likely a software issue, of which drivers is one possibility. But since it's not a driver LET's see if it's some other process. Open msconfig and choose "selective startup" (disable everything) and reboot. If the issue recurs then it's not software. But if it does not recur, START adding items back one at a time, rebooting after each, until the problem does reappear and you'll have identified the culprit.

Solve : Is it good to use a Windows 7 Compaq 615 as a Desktop??

Answer»

Hi,

I have a compaq 615, and the screen cracked somehow.  I found that this is not covered under warranty and will cost me $500 NZD to fix.  I decided that it was not worth it as I brought the laptop for $850 NZD.  I have decided i will use it as a desktop and not use the battery at all just keep the charger in all the TIME and all ways on.  Is this a good thing? I have WINDOWS 7 Compaq 615, if needed look up the specs.  I am not sure if this was the right place to put this, but any help would be great.

Thanks, Jackson CHi,
It does not make any difference that you want to use battery or direct power supply, anyway you have to attach battery and plug into power supply. Any difference is that your battery will be full charged and power will be byepassed to reach you laptop components as and when required. However there could be a of problems with your machine:

As you want to use your machine as desktop MEANS that you want to keep your laptop always on which is not good, because LAPTOPS are not for heavy duty, however it again depends on yor laptop model and specifications.

Just because you have a computer doesn't mean you have to keep it on 24/7.

Just a thought, maybe you want to get a laptop fan or a laptop cooler to keep the laptop CHILLED. Suppose it'll help keep your laptop's shelf life longer....

The CD that the OP had/has could have accidently had backtrack put on it when the OP was making the CD.

Clearer?

Yes. But there is an equal chance the CD that the OP had/has could have accidentally had lude POLAR Bear images put on it when they were making the disc.

First: How do you "Accidentally" Put backtrack on a CD? One would assume this means that at some point backtrack would have to be downloaded (or perhaps it was downloaded accidentally too?)

Second: even if backtrack "accidentally" put itself on the disc, the only WAY to "accidentally" install it would be if you booted up the disk and absent-mindedly went through the 10 minute (or maybe longer) install process, which involves changing partitions and the BOOT loader. All of which have pretty clear prompts and are rather clear that one should tread carefully.

Third: a "penetration testing environment" is not exactly something that "infects" an ISO. especially when said "infection" is nearly a full CD in and of itself.

Basically, saying "I accidentally installed backtrack" is the same as saying "OMG I accidentally installed FreeBSD"- you can't install them "accidentally".

So it wasn't really a case of accidentally installing backtrack- you installed it on purpose- it's more a case of being unfamiliar with what that entails in the later versions. Quote from: patio on June 23, 2010, 07:15:14 PM

No, there should be no problem.  It's possible you could encounter a message saying the software was previously registered and therefore cannot be registered again, when registering/authenticating the software.  If that happens, you'll have an option to call Microsoft and they will authorize the registration of the new installation based on your explanation of what you're doing.

Hi, I have digital camera that is RECOGNIZED by win7, but the old faithful xp camera and scanner wizard is all but gone. All I can get the new win replacement to do is to copy all 683 files from my camera.

Can someone tell me how to use the windows 7 (supposedly better) CRAPPY wizard to simply download selected pictures from my camera with the same simple filename my camera has allocated, to a folder of my choice. Dont WANT tags, dont want coffee, just want my old xp like wizard.

So far the only way IVE found to do this simple task is to take the memory card from my camera and use a card reader and my file manager to copy the ones I want.

If this is progress, i think im OUTA here.

Any ideas, Thanks

Solve : Mail Account missing?

I tried to re-create my account but am told that "An error has occurred...". I have contacted my service provider and am waiting for them to check my account at their end (nothing they suggested when I rang them worked.

Whenever I have a computer problem I look at what I have done SINCE the computer last worked properly. Today I used Revo UNINSTALLER to uninstall half a dozed programs I no longer use. Is it possible that while doing this I have inadvertently deleted a line(s) from the registry?Uhm try system restore(search for "system restore" in the start menu but first try an run as an administrator.

if this did not work tell me and ill have a propper look at itThanks tomfenty. I had the same idea after posting the problem (although I wasn't optimistic). I restored the system to a restore point created yesterday and, to my pleasant SURPRISE, it worked! I now have Mail BACK.

Solve : Monitor Issue - 'Input signal out of range'?

Answer»

I recently purchased a 25 in. HP monitor to go with my custom built tower running Vista, which was successfully running on an old square Sony monitor for a few weeks.  Upon trying to use the new monitor, the Windows startup screens RUN through fine, then when the desktop should boot up, the screen goes black and reads "Input Signal Out of Range - CHANGE settings to 1920 x 1080 - 60Hz".  Trying to run the computer with the old Sony monitor now has the same effect (similar error message), as does using my tv as a monitor.

I've temporarily solved the problem by going to my friends house and using his old tv and an s-cable hookup which allows the desktop to be shown.  My more computer savvy friends then changed the display settings on the computer, and we hooked up my new monitor and it was working GREAT until I unplugged everything and brought it home, now everything went back to having to having the same issue. We've gone through this process twice, and if I have to do it again I'm going to pull my hair out.

Booting in safe mode works, and I'm able to see the FULL screen though it's very low resolution, and changing any display settings while in safe mode does absolutely nothing.

Also it doesn't matter how I hook up my new monitor - same error happens using dvi to hdmi cable as well as vga cable with dvi adapter.

Thanks.Hi,

Start your computer.
When the bios info page turns to black (as if about to start loading Windows) press F8 a few times.
A page will pop up with options to start Windows.
Choose Safe Mode then press Enter 2 times.
If you still get to the Windows Logo page then just hit the reset button and do it again.
Once in Windows, goto the Display Properties.
(right click on the desktop and select display properties)
A window will pop up.
The last tab at the top of that window is Properties, selct it.
You will see a slider on the left SIDE in the window now open. Slide it back to 800x600 or 1024x768.
Click apply, then OK.
Close the box and restart the computer.
Or, you could do the F8 thing, and start in VGA mode. Then put the screen res slider up bit by bit until you get the error.

If you go into BIOS,  based on what you wrote,  your hard disk is showing..  Do you know in fact that your CD is not working or are you assuming that from what you see in the BIOS?

To check,  I would turn off the system,  insert the windows 7 install CD,  and see if it boots off of it.  If the CD is really not there,  and you can not get it to come up by fiddling with the IDE or SATA options in BIOS,  (not sure which kind of CD you have),  then you have a hardware problem.  The BIOS would not be impacted by the failed operating system issue.

The bigger issue is that you probably need to totally reinstall Windows 7 at this point.   If you can reformat and reinstall from scratch, that would be best,  upgrades are iffy at best and more often than not,  run into some sort of problem,  plus you don't clean up all the garbage that's collected in the registry from your old OS when you just upgrade.

If you need the files on the disk,  an OPTION would be to pull the drive and install it as an additional disk in a friends PC using an external USB housing,  copy the important files off,  then reinstall it in your PC and start FRESH by formatting and doing a clean new windows 7 install.

Solve : BlueScreenView finds nothing??

Answer»

I've had a couple of blue screens lately, for unknown reasons, I tried to run BSV but it always shows an empty list and at the bottom a message saying "0 crashes".

I have an Asus G51J with Windows 7 x64.

Could it be because the program that caused the crash is on an other HDD? (all internals)What is the blue screen error?Make sure, your settings are correct.

1. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel (Start>Control Panel in Vista).
2. Double-click System.
3. Click (Advanced system settings link in Vista, then --->)the Advanced tab, and then click Settings under Startup and Recovery.
4. Make sure, there is a checkmark in Write an event to the system log.
5. In the Write debugging information list, click Small memory dump (64k) (128K in Windows 7).

Done, however the only option in "Small memory dump" I had was 256Kb, I guess that will work too.

Will post update once I get another BS.Sounds like a plan Go to System Properties - Advanced - Startup & Recovery Settings and uncheck "automatically restart". Next time the blue screen should remain up.Still not showing up.

I also checked, in C:\Windows, there is no "minidump" file or folder.

Done.Okay. If the blue screen does remain up, post the entire contents of the error message. If it does not remain up, it's almost certainly a hardware problem. Quote

Go Start>Run ("Start Search" in Vista/7), type in:
sfc /scannow
Click OK (HOLD CTRL, and SHIFT, hit Enter in Vista/7).
Have Windows CD/DVD handy (with Vista/7, most likely, you won't need it).
If System File Checker (sfc) will find any errors, it may ask you for the CD/DVD (rarely in Vista/7 case).
I have the same issue. I get AROUND it by first hitting the STOP or Red X
following the URL line. Then when you get the message that "Navigation to the

should load.

Solve : HEEEEEEEELLPPPPP!! CANT LOAD WINDOWS VISTA?

Answer»
Hello-

hoping someone can help as at END of my tether!!

My computer crashed last week- had not downloaded any new HARWARE or software- just GAVE up the ghost (3 yr old- Vista 32 bit running windows version 7)

I have re-intsalled windows USING disk that came with computer- no issues all loaded ok.

Reinstalled- fresh install not repair

Compuer was not same- slower- freezing- etc etc until then eventually blue screen of death after an hour or 2

Could start again- sometimes needing backup disk sometimes not- access to internet- slow but ok

Today- STARTED computer and wont even boot from disk.

Managed to run a memory test and no issues.

Manged to press F8 and run all the differant start ups and still says cant load windows

So...in summary...

Computer will not lod windows into any mode/ safe etc etc

Disk is in the machine but its as if not there!

HEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEELP!

ps- I am ok with some terms but not all so be gentle when replying- certainly opening computer and moving bits etc is a no no!

  1) When you say "fresh" install, did you reformat first?
2) Download the diagnistic utility from the website of your hard drive manufacturer and see if you can run it.
hi- thanks for reply

no- didnt reformat- just went with reinstalling from disk!

Then that's not a "fresh" install - you will have the same problems now you had previosly. If you want a clean install, boot to your OS disc and format, then install. Note that you will have to reinstall all drivers immediately after installing the OS (starting with the chipset driver). And of course formatting will delete EVERYTHING on the drive, so first back up any key data.

Solve : Office Xp on Windows 7?

Answer»

I have just purchased a new laptop with Windows 7. It has a trial VERSION of Microsoft office installed but I want to install an XP version that I purchased some years ago. Can I do this? When I TRY to install from the CD it stops part way through copying the filesThe "XP" in Office XP is just a version name, nothing to do with Windows XP, it should install fine on any Windows OS. I expect the CD is damaged. Although perhaps you should try uninstalling the trial version first.
Thank you. I had almost got to that POINT but am concerned that if I cannot get the XP version to load then I have a laptop without Office. If I do get to this point can I restore the trial version. I'd take a look at the cd first, is it CLEAN? If not, clean it with a damp cloth carefully (don't wipe in circular fashion, no GOOD)

I had an cd, which kept not being able to copy a file, but I knew file existed on the CD, so I cleaned the CD a bit and it worked fine afterwards.

But nothing crazy like crysis. I know how crysis requires good stuff to play that wellLeft4dead requirements

Solve : Media player help (video included)?

Answer»

OS: Windows 7
Media player: Emtec S800
Monitor: Samsung 932MW

Hi all, I'm new here. Hope this is the right section to post in. I'm having problems with my new media player. I have my Xbox going into the component in on the media player then from the component out into my monitor (as I'd like to record xbox gameplay). As you will see in the video the color is horrible and the screen flickers every now and again. Theres also a delay from the controller to what I see on the screen.

I have tried a multiple of outputs such as using HDMI, YUV and scart, the same problem occurs. I think if I used the 2-into-1 component adapters (splitting the xbox's leads into my monitor and the component in on the media player) it would solve the delay, color and flickering  issues but the recording when played back will probably STILL be flickery and bad color.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

 Hello,

I suggest you call the manufacture support number that is located in the documentation for starters and let them know the issues.

I hope they work it out for you, good luck.Tried calling Emtec, there was a number to call inside the BOX on a leaflet and I also checked the web for number, I keep getting that the number doesnt exist :S

Starting to feel like I was just ripped off. I've sent an email to them... give it 2 days and if I dont get a reply I'll be RETURNING it for the HD PVR, cheaper and a known company.

I will keep this topic updated. Thanks for the help.Personally i wouldn't even wait 2 days...they haven't done anything to deserve that kind of loyalty...Returned it TODAY to pc world. Also tried calling Emtec again, same deal again, problems with the phone number. Thats PRETTY scary, lucky for me, Pc world took it back with no problems.

Will be buying the Hauppauge HD PVR soon. Thanks for the help all.Good Deal...stop back with an update if you wish...

You have to make it using the instructions in that link.  It's not just a "download and run" (otherwise, Microsoft would consider it a violation of their EULA).

Otherwise, a variation of what Patio said:

1B...use the Recovery Console and follow the directions posted for that step...

Since there's no Recovery Console in Windows 7, you can either boot from the Windows 7 DVD, select "Repair My Computer" and get to the command PROMPT that way or borrow someone else's Windows 7 PC, click Start -> All Programs -> Maintenance -> Create a System Repair Disc.  Boot from the repair disc.

...which eliminates everything under 2) and 3).

So...CONFIRM that it's 80C and not 80F.  If it is, then you need to

a) Take the laptop apart and clean out that CPU fan.  I suggest having a look at the guide on HP's website:

http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c01295820.pdf

If you're not comfortable with doing this, take the laptop to a qualified service technician to do so.

If the CPU fan is completely dead, then you'll have to get a replacement--something like this:

http://www.pelltechnology.com/Products/?id=3205702&ProductName=HP_Pavilion_dv2727ca_Laptop_Heat_Sync_Heatsink_Assembly_Fan_

b) Get yourself one of these if a) is not keeping it cool enough (shoot for under 50C under full load):

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834998921&cm_re=laptop_cooling_pad-_-34-998-921-_-Product

I'm sure there's better one's out there, but you get the idea.
battery is as old as the pc but still holds a charge for 3-4 hours
2passes on memtest
80 celsiusand you never said what fourm Quote from: StealFalcon on July 21, 2010, 05:06:18 AM
and you never said what fourm

Quick Google search showed a post with the same computer name and specs here:

http://forum.ea.com/eaforum/posts/list/516350.page

That's what I was referring to.

In any case:

Quote from: StealFalcon on July 21, 2010, 05:05:01 AM
battery is as old as the pc but still holds a charge for 3-4 hours
2passes on memtest
80 celsius

Battery's fine and Memtest is okay, then.

80 Celsius is VERY HIGH.  Think about it: 100 Celsius is the temperature of boiling water!

So Patio hit it right on the money.  The problem is that your CPU is trying to fry an egg, not process your data!

Previous suggestions stand:

a) Take the laptop apart and clean out that CPU fan.  I suggest having a look at the guide on HP's website:

http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c01295820.pdf

Solve : How to install Win7??

Answer»

Yea I know, stupid question but I serious don't know, heres what happen.

I insert Win7 CD => restart computer => Press any key to boot with CD => then it SAY Windows is loading => Starting Windows and I'm at the "Welcome screen" with the background and my mouse, nothing more I can move the mouse but there ain't anything to click. It's the same CD I use to install the Win7 I run now. but then it was from Win XP to Win7 now it's from Win7 to Win7.

If anyone wonder why I WANT to reinstall it's because I get a Error when I login because it's trying to install SOMETHING I already install, and noone here seems to know how to remove it, ether from reseting a file or something so it don't have the "memory" that it was suppose to find that file.

Anyone got a clue? I would be very thankful. Nvm, I did Alt + Tab and it worked. So, you've used the same Win 7 disc to install Win 7 on two machines, right?Since Windows 7 comes on a DVD, I wonder what the "CD" was that he used?

Hello, I am running a vista home premium OS but I have a virtual MACHINE running Windows Server 2003. I have a interactive logon tool file that CONSIST of two additional files; one is LRIGHTS.CMD, and the other is NTRIGHTS.exe. When I run the run cmd for the lrights.cmd, I get an error of: c:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\c:\tools\Tools\lrights.cmd is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file.
My question; "How do I get these to execute successfully?" I need to have these working properly DUE to the fact, I need to complete hands-on projects for my class.
Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks, gewhit It sounds like your VM has an environment variable issue.  It's grabbing both the active path in the command prompt (C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\) and the path in which the batch script is running from (C:\tools\tools\lrights.cmd).

Either that, or there's something funky in the batch script itself.  After all, I don't think c:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\c:\tools\tools\lrights.cmd is the correct location, and I haven't even seen your VM! *Deleted for FAIL at answering question* Quote from: KornmonGrim on July 20, 2010, 11:55:37 PM

Hello, gewhit

Change the .cmd extension on LRIGHTS.CMD to LRIGHTS.BAT

.bat works on all windows platforms.

.cmd only works on Windows 2K, XP & NT.

Also your problem consists of what killerb255 has said.

.cmd works on NT based versions of windows.

Windows NT 3.1, NT 3.5, NT 4, Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7. As well as all the server versions.

This covers both their Host and their Guest OS.

Solve : Coloe faded in Windows 7 Media Center.?

Answer»

Anytime I use Media Center in Windows 7 to play video clips, recorded television, or DVDs - the color quality is noticeably faded when compared with playing the same clips, TV photos, or DVD in any other video player (such as Windows Media Player, TotalMedia 3.5, or Aver MediaCenter).

I've tried different screen RESOLUTIONS including my monitor's native 1080p. Also, I compared the same videos on an XP Media Center 2005 Edition laptop, in the same players vs. Media Center, and did not experience any difference in color.

Here are links to pictures on Photobucket:

Snap of TV from Media Center: http://i572.photobucket.com/albums/ss168/R...a19/TV1-WMC.png

Snap of TV from TotalMedia 3.5: http://i572.photobucket.com/albums/ss168/R...ba19/TV3-TM.png

All video in Media Center appears faded, as shown in the above (MC) example. All other programs perform as shown in the TotalMedia example.  Pictures look normal in Media Center, just as they do in Windows Photo Viewer or any other photo viewer.

All other images on my screen, including the DESKTOP wallpaper and YouTube appear normal as well.

Any ideas or informations, especially a fix, would be appreciated.

Thank you.

Sincerely,

High_Tech_Redneck

Have you tried using different codecs?Do you mean like installing a codec pack?  One time I installed K-Lite Codec pack on another PC and it made the audio sound odd whenever Windows Media Player tried to play an MPEG video.  After K-Lite was uninstalled, the sound on MPEGs returned to normal.  The sound was never bad on anything else.

Anyway, I don't want a problem like that.  But shouldn't Media Center work on it's own codecs?  Have you seen this exact issue on any other computer?

What would be your suggestion of a codec?

Thanks for the reply. The KLite codec pack is still probably your best bet...
The anamolies with the prior machine may be attributed to it being older equipment...
Even it exhibits the same behaviour you can always uninstall it...but i don't think it will...K-Lite is one suggestion, but it is hit-and-miss for some people.

Others include:
COMBINED Community Codec Pack (CCCP)
Shark007's codecs (the creator of the Vista Codec Package): http://www.shark007.net/win7codecs.html

To answer your question about Media Center and its own codecs...well, yes theoretically.  Sometimes installing other audio or video programs can jack them around a bit (i.e.: Nero's extra stuff, Roxio's extra stuff, PowerDVD, WinDVD, Corel Video Studio, etc.).

XP Media Center didn't even come with its own MPEG codec.  It wasn't until Vista that Microsoft actually decided to ship Media Center with a bleepin' codec!  That's why my first guess regarding your issue was your codecs.
