Solve : Error Code 522?

Answer»

I'm using Vista Home Prem. with A toshiba Satellite P-205D S7802

When I try to log onto my on line backing I connect to the web site but when i try to GET into my banking I get a 522 error. It only happens on my SPECIFIC bank site. I can do PURCHASES on line on secure web sites, etc,. w/o any problems... I even set up a MSN banking site w/o any problem.

I've worn out the keyboard corresponding with the bank. they can't figure it out EITHER...

any help would be appreciated. On the same matter, when I boot up I get my icon with a 'locked'
message... could this be the problem..?? if I switch users I still can't get into my bank...

I have to use my XP Laptop to do my banking... Thanks!

When I try to log onto my on line backing I connect to the web site but when i try to get into my banking I get a 522 error.

That seems very specific to the website/bank.Call your bank.Thanks..... I had the same thought, a bank specific problem. I've talked with them to I'm blue in the face and wore out Word' writing. They assure me it isn't them.

I'm now exploring the problem from the laptop itself (VISTA settings). I'm considering the possibility that the laptop thinks I'm not the ADMINISTRATOR or some other security issue i.e. cookie settings or trusted web site settings... it sure is a strange situation.

This was a refurbished unit and I did find a whole bunch of pictures on the HD that I never downloaded... that was concerning...

Any other ideas send them along... I'm open to all suggestions...

Solve : 169 IP Address?

Answer»

Please help.

I have 2 laptops working (??) via a wireless connection on a Belkin router on Virgin Broadband. On Monday evening I spent 3 hours with the Virgin help line in India as I had connection problems.
Laptop 1 (HP Compaq) could not get an internet connection, while Laptop 2 (Acer) could. So to be on the safe side I reset both the router and the modem.
Then neither laptop could get an internet connection and both seemed to have lost the identification of the network which is called simply Home and my Wireless Router is called Colin.
I then reset both the router and the modem again. With no success.
I then went and put an Ethernet cable into Laptop 2 through to the Modem and still could not get an internet connection. From this I believed that the problem was then either the internet line itself (perhaps having dropped in the area) or the modem.
So I rang Virgin. They had me perform various tests and then they advised that both the modem and the line were working perfectly (the Wireless router was not theirs so they were not interested in performing any tests for this). Their first suggestion was that the NIC driver was corrupted and they got me to download a replacement driver for Laptop 1 and to see whether that WOULD help. It didn’t. At this stage we had a 5 minute period (literally) where Laptop 2 worked wirelessly and then went off so I rang Virgin again.
They then got me to check the IP address which was done and it was now found to start with a 169. They then told me that the Laptop had a fault has it reverts to a 169 number to stop it getting access to the internet to protect itself.
They then asked me to perform a number of tasks to correct the IP address. One was simply IPCONFIG/RENEW which did not WORK. The second was through Vista when you double click on the red cross that goes from the network to the internet on the picturegram in the Network and Sharing Centre you get the option of repairing, and reinstating the IP address. The repair did not work as it gave up part way through.
Virgin India then got me to perform all the tasks again on Laptop 1, and it was found that this too had a 169 IP address. Again NOTHING worked.
Yesterday I brought in Laptop 2 into work to see whether it would work on a wireless connection. It didn’t. I did not want to connect it via a cable to our system for fear of possibly endangering our system. I then rang a colleague for help and it was suggested that I download Winsockfix, which I did and installed it on Laptop 2. It still had an IP address of 169 and still could not get onto the Internet.
Last evening I borrowed a laptop (that we had earlier given away, but up to 3 months ago had been working on my home system). I tried to get wireless internet access and was denied. I checked the IP address and it started with 285. I reset the router and Modem. Then hooked this laptop (Toshiba - let’s call it Laptop 3) up to a cable direct to the modem and no Internet connection. I checked the IP address and it now had a 169 IP address……………..
I have come to the conclusion, rightly or WRONGLY that the Wireless Router is damaged in some way. That when I try to access the Internet via the Router it then changes the IP address on the laptops to stop then accessing for protection.
But to be honest I haven’t a clue. All I know for sure is that everything was working perfectly before Monday. Is the system infected? Could a bug be causing all of this?
Virgin TELL me that the line and the modem are working fine and there is no need for them to get an engineer to visit.
Could it be Eset which is my security system? could the fire wall be stopping access and then changing the IP address. If so why would that be? The Eset on Laptops 1 and 2 was up to date. But the Eset on laptop 3 was red so had not been updated for a while. Yet I was still blocked from getting onto the internet.
My thought is that –
1.I probably need to buy a new Wireless Router (as I don’t know whether the existing one is what’s causing the problem)
2.Even with a new Router the laptops will still not work as the fact that Laptop not working in the office has proved.
How can I get the laptops to have a proper IP address?
They seem to be clean from Viruses / spyware etc?
ANY and I mean ANY help that you can provide would be very much appreciated.
Best regards
Do you have the router set up for DHCP?
Do you have the laptop set up to retrieve the IP address automatically?

If that provides no satisfaction you can try assigning the IP address automatically. If you need assistance with that portion just let me know.

This is primarily caused by the computer not seeing the DNS. It is probably not a virus, but you should always use a good antivirus and malware scanner - just to verify that the computer is healthyI had the same exact problem. All started Monday night just like yours. I found out that the problem is related to the ESET smart security. Must be a recent update. Just disable the personal firewall on ESET and repair the broken connection between your network and internet by letting Windows reset the IP under the Network and Sharing Center of the Control Panel. I had two computers with this problem one wired desktop to my Belkin wireless router and a wireless laptop and both can access Internet now. On the down side I don't a firewall for now. Many Thanks. I uninstalled Eset and installed a Free AVG instead. within minutes the laptop was connected to the Internet. Sucess. I just hope that when I get home this evening and try it out on the home network that it proves equally sucessful.

omg!
Khato, you kick-*censored*!
I was going mental here trying to fix my laptop (did so many scans and started backing up files so that I would wipe everything out and start all over again)
But this worked!!! bloody ESET! So happy right now... thanks soooooooooooooooooooooo much.

(and to think I accidentally stumbled on this post) wow.Hi there what is the ESET? I am having problems with my laptop having a 169 IP address. My desktop is fine. buster you need to start your own Topic so it can recieve the proper attention...
Post as many details as possible and Welcome Aboard !

Solve : code 10 device cannot start error?

Answer»

hi all, ive researched and researched this but have grown frustrated. I recently purchased a new HP HDX Laptop with Vista Home Premium installed. I havent really used the laptop because I had been waiting for the Vista ULTIMATE Upgrade disc to arrive that I ordered. It did, and I ran the upgrade but now I'm left with a code 10 error on my Realtek Network Card. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling and i get the same result. It says it is up to date but just wont start. I'm at a loss as to what to do from here. In device manager i also have several "other" devices that have exclamations by them and dont know what they are. Anyone have an answer or solution? Help would be much appreciated.

rhoadsSounds like it's missing the laptop's chipset drivers...
Re-install them from the Driver CD that shipped with the machine...yea i have tried that, when i try to reinstall from the cd it CAME with it says i am up to date.........not sure if the upgrade i did to ultimate is the reason or not?Quote

i also have several "other" devices that have exclamations by them and dont know what they are

1. Open Device Manager (Control PANEL>System>Hardware>Device Manager)
2. The hardware whose drivers are missing will appear as Unknown device, so it's easier to locate the device.
3. Right click on the unknown device and click on Properties.
4. Under the Properties window click on Details tab and select Device Instance Id from the drop down box.
5. You should see a code similar to this

PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_27DC&SUBSYS_30868086
&REV_01\4&1E46F438&0&40F0

6. The portion of the code highlighted in RED is the Vendor ID and the portion highlighted in GREEN is the Device ID. In this example:

Vendor ID = 8086
Device ID = 27DC

7. Once you have obtained both the IDs, proceed to PCI Database. There you can either search for the vendor from the vendor ID or directly get information about the device along with the vendor name by searching with the device ID.

8. Then from there you can go directly to the hardware manufactureres website and get the driver.thanks for the replies but i have gotten the network driver from Realtek, reinstalled, only to same conclusion, an error 10.............i have not tried that for the "other" devices because Ive been trying to first get the network GOING so i can onto the Internet.....................is it something in the registry perhaps? Quote
I recently purchased a new HP
I'd call HP. From my experience, they're nice people. If this laptop is rlatively new the Network chip may be bad...return it for a replacement.i thought maybe i should explain the situation more..............i just purchased this laptop, i received it in the mail from HP with Vista Home Premium on it....from there i just turned it on, made sure everything LOOKED good.....at that point i could get on the internet and all my drivers were fine.....it wasnt until i did the ultimate upgrade that i now have the error code 10 along with the "other" device drivers missing......to me it has to be because of the upgrade but i cant put a finger on it, ive tried reinstalling the network driver to no avail, thanks for your suggestions but im still flusteredIs the Ultimate upgrade 64bit perhaps ? ?
If so you may need 64bit network drivers....yes it came with Home Premium which is 64bit and the ultimate upgrade is also 64bit........its a frustrating issue thats for sure, thanks tho patio for the suggestion

Solve : Wireless not recognized all of a sudden?

Answer»

OK, Newbie to this board as I was searching the net for some help. I'm not computer literate although I somehow was able to build my own machine from scratch about 6 years ago.

I bought a Compaq Presario F700 (F730US) in Dec 2007 for my TEENAGE daughter and have been pretty handsoff as she seems to know more than me (not saying much) which is probably my first mistake.

The problem is it doesn't recognize any wireless networks at all, as though it doesn't have wireless capabilities at all as of about 2 weeks ago. It worked fine prior. I know our home network is fine as my work laptop connects to it automatically.

I have UPDATED Windows Vista with all the available updates since she had never done this. It still is not recognizing anything wireless. I currently have it hard wired to our wireless router to get here.

I believe this problem started shortly after she downloaded a program called "Limewire" which her cousin has and "has never had a problem with it". I NOTICE this was installed on 7/3/09. Interestingly a couple of other prgrams appear to have been installed the same day. They are:

Zwangi1.0build115
Music Oasis
My.Freeze.com Toolbar
RelevantKnowledge
Winferno Registry Power Cleaner

I do not believe she purposely downloaded these outside of limewire. Just seems too coincidental that our problems seemed to start at the same time. I was going to uninstall all of the above and just would like someone more knowledgable to offer their advice as I try to fix this.

Any help is appreciated.

Try going into control panel then click on classic view on the left. Go into device manager and find network adapters. Open network adapters and you should see your wireless adapter there. Right click on the wireless adapter and uninstall it. Then do a full restart to re-install it automatically. Then re-try connecting to the network
Let me know how you get on Mulreay - thanks for the response. I'm looking at Network adapters and it is only showing NVIDIA nForce 10/100 Mpbs Ethernet (which is what I'm hard wired thru now). It does not show any wireless adapters although it is built into the machine.

I have uninstalled all the software noted above in the meantime. Installed Avast Anti-virus, and Ad-Aware anti-spyware, run scans and deleted the few items each came up with upon scanning.

There is a switch for wireless on the front of this laptop, but the light stays on regardless of switch position. I get the feeling now that the wireless adpater is completely on the fritz.

What would be the best way to remedy? Any thoughts on this are appreciated. Ok let's try this. Click on Start the MS sphere in the bottom left 'type in a SEARCH for network and sharing centre you should not need to type the full thing before it shows up, click on it. On this page look in the left margin for manage NETWORK CONNECTIONS..... NOT wireless connections right click on the wireless adapter and see if you can enable it from there.
Have a go with that and let me know how your getting on

Solve : Vista SP2 Driver Issues?

Answer»

Hey All,

This is the issue. I am running Vista Home Premium 64 bit on a ECS BLACK SERIES GF8200A (V1.0) with a AMD X2 at 2.9ghz and 4gb of ram. It seems when I upgrade to Vista SP2, my Lexmark and Ethernet devices loose their drivers and stop working. I go into Device Manager and they have exclamation points by them and I try updating the drivers but it fails. Any idea on this? It only happens when I upgrade to SP2.Have you tried downloading current drivers from the manufacturers?Yes but they are the same drivers as what I have on their previously. Is the machine still under warranty?I built it myself and I am SURE the MOTHERBOARD is under warranty, but ECS support is the worst. If the drivers are current, and the issue still happens then it SOUNDS LIKE a failure on the motherboard.if it works fine without sp2, i would just remove it. Sometimes microsoft updates screw things up.Quote from: mdoggy39 on July 21, 2009, 07:37:28 AM

Terrible advice.

Windows Updates do from time to time botch things til the patches come out but suggesting running XP without SP2 is not a solid move in my opinion...well.... it is Vista, not XP. I'd agree if it was XP w/o SP2 but I don't think leaving SP1 on a Vista machine, rather then updating, would be such a bad move.

Solve : Questions regarding OEM software?

Answer»

I know someone who bought a COMPUTER that came with VISTA. He did not register it but instead installed Windows XP. He is willing to sell the OEM Vista disk to me for $30.00. My QUESTION is, will the disk work on a new barebones computer that I am buying or, will the disk only work with the computer it was SOLD with. I understand that sometimes OEM software looks for hardware markers and will not install if the computer does not have those markers. Most dealers don't GIVE a "real" windows disc and instead provide a recovery CD /DVD. If that is what this is then it will not work.OEM software works only for a single computer.
Retail software works on computers with the minimum system REQUIRMENTS of the software.

Solve : Vista boot problem?

Answer»

I've had to resort to typing on my iPod so please pardon the typing mistakes.

I have a laptop just over a year old, I unplugged it's battery on accident the other night and now get a blue screen whenever I try to load windows. Itsays there is a problem with the Ntfs.sys file.

I've tried loading the vista repair cd, same blue screen. Tried a real vista cd, same blue screen. Tried xp cd, it loads into the first screen where it loads all the SETTINGS and then blue screen saying error.

I want to format my hard drive, but without being able to get to dos or Any operating SYSTEM I'm not sure how to do this. Thanks in advanceWhen you get the message that says 'missing or corrupt Ntfs.sys file' (I assume) what error code does it give? This could be to do with a recent update.Remove hard drive. Put it back.Tried removing hard drive, still have the problem. I tried to find the error code but it flashes so fast I can't read any of the blue screen. Anything else I can try?As far as software updates go I don't recall updating anything before all this and here haven't been any hardware changes. Quote

Do you actually see this message:
Press any key to boot from CDYa, it goes past the "press f2 to go into setup" screen, i tell it to boot to the cd, and it says press any key to boot to cd. Then it asks if i want to load windows or a memory test. I did the memory test, it didnt find any problems on 3 passes, but when i tell it to load windows it says loading windows with status bar, gets almost to the end then blue screens saying the ntfs.sys error.

When it crashes without a cd in, it detects that it was "SHUTDOWN improperly" and asks how i would like to boot windows. I've tried safe mode, safe mode with command prompt, normally boot, last good config, all with the same exact error. It goes to the screen with the windows logo and before it loads all the way, blue screens for a millisecond and restarts instantly.I don't see, you tried any repair....

This will bring you to a new screen where the repair process will look for all Windows Vista installations on your computer. When done you will be presented with the System Recovery Options dialog box:

After this, it will present you with a list of options including startup repair, system restore and command prompt:

Try System Restore, first.
If that doesn't work, try Startup Repair.Ya I tried to repair with vista boot disk, vista repaircd, vista retail cd, xp retail cd, and tried a dos boot disk tonight. All ask if I want to boot to a cd, then the rest of what it does is posted above.Did you:

Solve : windows vista, disk clean up?

Answer»

Hello

I was just wondering why disk clean up in windows vista, says i have 28.8kb in tempory internet files.
But when i ran ccleaner 40mb tempory internet files where removed ?I can't see there being 40mb of temp internet files are you sure your not just reading the total amount of space gained from removing everything?

[attachment deleted by admin]well, here's what mine shows...

the temporary files (not shown) were over 66MB, too. I don't have CCleaner installed on my desktop to compare, but on my laptop, CCleaner finds 6MB of temporary internet files, and disk cleanup finds 1.81MB.

[attachment deleted by admin]I suppose if you never ever clean up then you would get that. It's just the original post stated there was only 28.8kb temp files but then removed 40mb so just looking into the logical.err... he ran the built in disk cleanup, and got 28K. then CCleaner, a different PROGRAM, removed 40MB.

He's curious as to why.

Which REMINDS me... never explained that.

The reason is simply that CCleaner looks in more places... additionally it removes more then just temporary internet files. My bad I have ccleaner as well just thought at first he had made a typo and meant (cleaner). Cheers BC never even spotted that.Quote from: BC_Programmer on July 16, 2009, 08:24:57 PM

Hello BC_programmer

How doe's it look in more places, i thought there was only one folder where tempory internet files are stored, "are there hidden tempory internet files"
I have just ran disk clean up again and disk clean up says tempory internet files 0kb

In ccleaner, with nothing else checked only "temp internet files" it removed 38MB.

I know it removes more than just Temp internet files.

If i check "tempory internet files" only in ccleaner
I expect only tempory internet files to be removed, so what else is it removing
If only this is checked why the big difference compared to disk clean up

Yeah BC come on..... explain. Easy. Windows disk cleanup only looks at internet explorer. CCleaner looks at firefox.

If you don't use IE, then you'll have very little in the way of temporary internet files according to it; but CCleaner will pick up Firefox temp files.

Which MAY raise the question: Why do I have so many? I don't use Internet Explorer! Well, It's because I read a lot of eBooks and so forth, in CHM format (which uses the IE engine, and thus stores temporary files).Quote from: BC_Programmer on July 17, 2009, 05:20:56 PM

Hello BC_programmer

I don't use firefox, i have it installed though, but very RARELY use it only when IE is playing up
I am always using IE and every other day or so delete tempory internet files, so are some of these files from firefox that ccleaner is deleting.

Surly i would be seeing the firefox icon in the browser, when i am viewing webpages, but i don't its always IE icon.

hello BC_programmer
Maybe this is the answer but i won't know yet for a bit, i was running disk clean up on a standard account, but when i ran it on the admin account it brought up a lot more files for deletion, so is this why ccleaner is deleting a lot more files , because it is deleting them from the standard account and the admin account all at once
I feel so stupid if thats the reason...
The standard win cleanup cleans from all accounts as well. It gives you the option on start up.Quote from: Mulreay on July 18, 2009, 12:21:54 PM

Well i am the only user, but i see whats happening now.

This is being on the computer to long, its not doing my brain anygood how stupid of me not to realise

Solve : DIRUSE shows files I cannot delete from D: drive (VISTA)?

Answer»

I have followed posting to utilize DIRUSE to determine what is eating up space on D: drive (VISTA, Dual-Core). It shows huge Recycle Bin files that I cannot see when I click on computer D: drive and which I cannot DELETE. I have tried everything in that post but do not know how to GET rid of these huge files (most are 'catalogs'). This in turn, I believe, is keeping the computer from operating efficiently. The Video card cannot even load completely which might be directly tied to this problem as well.

Unfortunately, when I first started, I had routed the automatic BACK-up to D drive. That has been since turned off. 3 GB of RAM have been installed, but still I have not enough space to do anything which I think might be associated with this screw up in the D drive.

I have turned on "SHOW hidden files" but not sure if that works for D drive. I still cannot see those files that DIRUSE shows me are on that drive.

Solve : Hard drive changed letter, and I can't change it back.?

Answer»

I have a system (with Vista on it, I'm one of the few who doesn't loathe Vista) with two internal and one external hard drive, among other things I keep my Itunes stuff on the external drive.

At one stage I was having trouble with FIXING the drive letter in place, it kept on resetting itself, so I went through computer MANAGEMENT and locked it into being drive K.

Yesterday I unplugged the hard drive (accidentally) and this morning, not yesterday, it's reset itself to being drive M. Everything on that drive no longer works..

I've tried going through computer management again and it will let me reset the letter but not to drive K (I'm locked out).. Which is where I want/need it..

I need to get rid of the old settings but I'm not SURE how, does anyone have any ideas?

A.Do you have anything assigned to a K: drive? (I mean, has something else commandeered to letter).

If so, either unplug it (if possible) or change it via disk management.

I'm wracking my brain on this one, since I had the exact same issue with a CD-ROM drive, and I do recall the "fix" was easier done then said...Nothing else has grabbed the letter, it's simply the old settings.

It COMES up on my comp (now, wasn't doing it 10 mins ago) as being an external CD, it's not there's nothing plugged in there..

It's got me lost at the moment.

ArwinGive the drive a Volume label and re-assign it...
You should be using "Safely Remove Hardware'....you risk losing all your data."You should be using "Safely Remove Hardware'....you risk losing all your data."

I know

I was actually trying to reset another USB plug when I grabbed it by mistake.

Solve : removing read-only attribute?

Answer»

I'm stumped on trying to remove the read-only attribute on a folder I created on the desktop..
I've gone through the steps to take ownership (as far as I know) with no luck..

Every TIME I right click on the folder and remove the read-only attribute, it always comes back...

I'm trying to change the contents of the folder from a Windows XP computer on the NETWORK, but when I try to change anything it says the disk is write protected and I'm denied access. I assume "write protected" means that the read-only attribute is set and needs to be removed.check off, "allow network users to change my files" on the sharing tab of the PROPERTIES dialog for the folder on the PC the folder resides on.Here's my share tab....I don't see what you mean.

I have tried sharing the folder itself, but I'm still not allowed to change anything in the folder..

The only way I can change the folder contents from another computer is by adding the folder to the PUBLIC folder on the computer it resides on (Vista)Advanced Sharing...Already tried it...

I even ADDED the FULL Controll permissions on the "everyone" group that is under "Advanced Sharing"

I guess I can live with it the way it is, changing stuff while in the PUBLIC folder......I'll have to take a CLOSER look at "Permissions" at a later time..

Solve : Windows Defender...?

Answer»

Hey Guys...Here is the problem I've been having...

Every time I turn my computer on Windows DEFENDER fails to start up and this pops up every time...

Windows Defender
"Application failed to initialize: 0x800106ba. A problem caused this programs service to stop. To start the service, restart your computer or search help and support for how to start service manually"

Anyone have any ideas? Just remove windows defender from system startup (so it doesn't automatically load on startup)... windows defender doesn't really do anything anyway. Should work as advertised, but in my 3 or so years with it, it's found 1 or 2 things anyway.

follow the instructions from the following link: http://www.groovypost.com/howto/microsoft/vista/remove-windows-defender-from-vista-system-startup/But also make sure you replace it with an anti-virus software. Windows Defender, and AV program are two different animals.Quote from: Broni on July 16, 2009, 06:52:04 PM

Windows Defender, and AV program are two different animals.

Grrrr (that was my animal IMPRESSION).
But if like my Norton AV it protects everything that WD would do surelly. Hence why you have to de-activate WD when installing Norton. Even though I re-activated mine just to be sure. WD is NOT an AV program. It's more of antispyware, but in any case, I've never seen it catching anything.Quote from: Broni on July 16, 2009, 06:59:45 PM

Something new every day on here. To be fair I have never relied on WD and probably used it once.It mainly prevents registry changes, which is suppose to prevent malwares from making those changes, but in reality, from what I can see, malware writers easily work around that issue.in my opinion, as a windows user, just get a good FIREWALL, an antivirus software that updates at least once a day and have malwarebyte antimalware and superantispyware handy.

That's probably enough to take care of your computer, along with common senseQuote from: 2x3i5x on July 16, 2009, 07:42:24 PM
superantispyware

I have Norton and MALWAREBYTES where do I get some superantispyware from? Sounds like a modern day comic book hero! http://www.superantispyware.com/download.html --> get it here.... free is fine (same as professional edition except everything's manual)

Superantispyware is on evilfantasy's list of recommended anti-malware software and sounded like a superman gadget when I first came across it.

Of course no scanner is 100% perfect so having these two SOFTWARES should give a better chance of diagnosing problems if there was one.... unless you meant Superman is perfect? Quote from: 2x3i5x on July 16, 2009, 07:49:26 PM
unless you meant Superman is perfect?

Would not go as far as perfect he has that big Kryptonite issue and his mum in those new ones was the woman he was trying to bump uglies with in the original films (dirty superman).

Cheers for the link though I'll check it out!It could be Malware, but it's probably just Microsoft..

Uninstall Defender, and they suggest reinstalling which should work.. (Though there r others out there, which r better)

That was ( a couple of years ago) a common error with defender, not now though, those bugs should be out of it.

The last couple of times I've seen it, it's being a symptom of a machine with a Fake AV program on it..

Quote from: Arwin on July 16, 2009, 08:35:57 PM
The last couple of times I've seen it, it's being a symptom of a machine with a Fake AV program on it..

Where did you get this tid bit from?A HP laptop sitting beside me is the obvious one, which I'm going to start working on once I got another prob solved. It's had 3 seperate fake AV progs on it. Getting into the file system to see what's savable is a hassle let alone anything else.

Before the system died entirely though it had 2-3 weeks of warning messages that windows defender couldn't start, then they gave it to me to fix.

I've seen it a couple of other times to. Machines with fake AV/ Anti Spyware on them and the only obvious sign of anything wrong is Windows Defender errors.

I use defender (it's kicked in once..) I've never had too many hassles with it in Vista, but in XP it was giving me trouble for ages.. Removing it and then reloading it normally works but not always..

Solve : vista resolution problem?

Answer»

Ok i am trying to set a custom resolution of 1920x1200 on my monitor through nvidia control panal. It tests it and it works FINE. I hit yes to keep and it reverts back to the other resolution? Is this a driver problem? Is there some way i can force it to keep it?you have the latest drivers? yes but i am questioning the driver because when i reboot after installing the driver it wont show anything on the screen once i get to vista login screen. So i uninstall in safe mode and reboot in low res mode and it installs and works after that. My video card is a 9800GTX+.Is there any way to FIX this? Can I just ask MATE. If this is an LCD monitor which I will assume it is why are you trying to change the native resolution. All monitors come set to there best resolution.it is a CRT and it says its max resolution is 1600x1200 which it can display in nvidia control panel but i hit yes and it reverts back... And if i set it to 1600x1200 in display settings it wont show at all? What does it say in the Win 'display settings' as your max res?Quote

Quote
Ok i am trying to set a custom resolution of 1920x1200

your trying to set a resolution that is higher then the monitor resolution.from what I see, in the windows display settings where you can change the resolutions, highest resolution is the best and the resolution is based on card capability and also the monitor SIZE.

If you want a 1920 x 1200 resolution, then get a monitor that supports it. The CRT was not meant to be made higher than it's max resolution and I think you're just wasting effort trying to do it because the monitor was not made for that purpose.

Solve : Annooying pop up?

Answer»

Gday all,
Running Windows Vista, SP2 , 2 gig processor, 2 gig RAM. Attached is a Canon MP460 multi printer, scanner.
I am recently Having trouble with an annoying pop up on boot up which has only recently surfaced.
At the completion of boot up, a pop up appears stating, Rundll- Error loading c:\users\henry\cnmss- when I put the cursor on it it states, “..IJ Status-Monitor starter, company canon Inc,file version 0.3.00 created 14/7/09” (14th July 09)
The printer and scanner run perfectly, but this pop up is very annoying although not affecting performance.
I located original file in C drive/Users and sent it to the recycle bin. No change in printer or performance. Re boot and the pop up appears again. Appears every boot up. Did a system restor and no effect.
Driving me nuts. Any advice on getting rid of it PLEASE.
I am just a computer user, so any advice tendered WOULD have to be in simple terms as I am a pre baby boomer and late on the computer scene. Hoping you can help

Did several boot ups and all was serene, no pop up. Switched printer on and booted up and the thing thing had popped up again. I ran HJT again and there it was again, back on the list, after having "fixed" it.
Ticked/checked it again and ran "fix it" again. Came up again. Very persistent thing.
Any further thoughts please? Looking again at that entry, it looks like your printer Status Monitor file is corrupted.
I think, you need to reinstall printer driver. And in the re-install look for "check for auto updates " and de-select it...I ran HJT again and selected and hit the fix option it appears to have worked. Have booted up several times, then next morning, twice, and the thing (ssshh!) hasn't appeared. Thank you both for your advice. Will keep in mind the re -install option, and the auto update turned off. Thanks again for your time.Very well then Quote

Solve : Windows 7 on Samsung NC10?

Answer»

Hi Everyone,

I am planning on preordering WINDOWS 7 Professional for use on my Samsung NC10 netbook but I have a few questions first:

1: Will the aero GLASS interface work on the Intel GMA 950 graphics?

2: If I do an UPGRADE install will all my Programs, Files and Drivers be preserved?

3: Can I install with a USB drive or from a second hard drive partition?

Thanks in advance,
Cameron Gray

Specs:
Intel Atom N270
1 GB Ram DDR2
GMA 950 GraphicsWhat is installed on the netbook currently ? ?
If it's not Vista you will have to do a clean install which means your apps and data will be gone.
Although no final word from Redmond yet RUMOR has it that there will be a flash drive ver. for installing to netbooks.

Not sure about the graphics question so wait for Calum or another video expert to wander thru here...I doubt a netbook could handle Aero Glass...

Solve : Horizontal scroll does not work in Windows Live Mail with Win 7?

Answer»

Running WIN 7 RC and using Windows Live Mail. I initially was using an old, basic wheel mouse but later bought a Microsoft optical mouse with tilt wheel, the feature that allows HORIZONTAL scrolling. Oddly, horizontal scrolling does not work in Windows Live Mail when the MESSAGE pane is wider than the message and the norizontal scroll bar is displayed at the bottom of the panel.

Horizontal scrolling works fine in other apps. I have the latest drive/software installed for the mouse. I suspect this has nothing to do with my pariticular mouse and there may be no solution unless Microsoft provides a FIX.

Just wondering whether any of you have noticed such VARIATIONS in your horizontal scroll function.

Does it relate to wireless networks
Can THIRD party firewalls like Nortons 360 cause problems with the API.

Solve : Incompatablity of AVG9 and Windows Defender?

Answer» ONE for the gurus, who may be able to help a computer numpty. I have just been on to the Microsoft website to have a grizzle about WINDOWS defender appearing on my taskbar on boot up, whingeing that it is not switched on. This had only occurred since downloading AVG9. Apparently one of the others on Microsoft site stated that they had contacted AVG and were informed that AVG had it's own Firewall version, which was not compatible with Microsoft Defender and had disabled it..
I have had good results from AVG and would like to keep it if possible.
Apparently some solved the problem by DUMPING AVG and downloading Avira or Avast.
My question.......Would it be safe to disable Windows Defender, and if so how to do it? If not is there any way of getting into AVG to disable their firewall? Are you using the FREE version of AVG? It does not have firewall. To turn off Windows Defender, see Turn Windows Defender on or off. Here's some info re: Defender: http://www.avg.com/us-en/faq.num-2672; as I understand it, AVG advises turning off Defender to avoid conflict between it and AVG. Thanks. I got into the AVG forum and they do indeed advise to turn defender off. I am using the free version. I think I will go back to version 8 and turn defender back on.Thanks again.

Solve : Problem Event Name: BlueScreen - on Vista Home Premium?

Answer»

Hey guys,

Okay I've searched thoroughly for this but could not find an aswer to this problem I'm having on my laptop.

Config is:

HP Pavilion DV2530EA
2.1 years old system
Vista Home Premium OEM on it, SP2
2 GB RAM

I've had a BSOD twice now within the last month. After the first one, I had to do a complete re-install as system files were damaged. I thought it must've been some virus, but apparently it's not, as I've done a new install and it happened again. This TIME so far it's seems ok after the reboot though.

The funny thing is that the system running extremely well otherwise - there are no other problems, slowdowns, freezes, hangs, nothing like that.

Here's what I was doing just before the BSOD: (on both occasions, the circumstances were EXACTLY the same!)

-I was surfing the net with IE8

-other programs running in the background: utorrent, Total Commander, Notepad

As I say, both times I was doing the same: reading some forum in IE8 with exactly the same apps running in the background and then suddenly bang!

I could not read the bluescreen message, as it moved on to the reboot too quickly. The only things I caught were something like:

...check for updates for you BIOS...
...DUMPING physical memory to disk...

I don't know if that helps.

Here's the message I got after the reboot (unfortunately I don't have the message or the dump from the first BSOD).

I've attached the minidump file zipped if you guys would like to have a look at it.

Please let me know if you need anything else.

Solve : windows7 free upgrade?

Answer»

hi,
this might be a silly question but i am nothing about computer so please fogive me
I just got a laptop with vista,it came with win7 free upgrade.
but my bf also got a laptop a few month AGO, and he has already ordered win7 upgrade, waiting for it to arrive.

my question is;
can i upgrade to win7 with his cd? or each cd is made just for once(one pc)?
Recently I just received my Windows 7 update. I had bought the stuff home and had to wait about two weeks for the update to come through.
I had some difficulty installing it, until I realized I was using the wrong product key. I had to use the product key that came with the Windows 7 disk. Oh, by the way, it is not now a CD, it is a DVD. So you have to use a DVD drive to boot and install Windows 7.
As far as I can tell, Windows 7 does not ask for the feast disk. So, I don't KNOW how to Windows 7 install DVD would know that it was only an upgrade, not a new install. But, it behaved LIKE a new install.
Nevertheless, I am very sure that Microsoft will not allow you to use the window seven on more than one computer. Just as the visa was intended for just one computer, so likewise the upgrade is intended for just one computer.
Does that answer your question?

Just as the visa was intended for just one computer, so likewise the upgrade is intended for just one computer.
Does that answer your question?
Anyway, with both Batista and Windows 7 you can use them for 30 days before the activation grace time expires.

Good Morning Soybean.
Today the Dragon is speaking.whenever I do a long rant about something, I have to use the voice recognition software. So for some reason, Dragon thinks that the words visa, Batista, beastly and the word Vista are all the same THING. Okay, I just now educated the Dragon so that it KNOWS that my operating system is Windows Vista 32-bit.
Perhaps the Dragon things I am a Bible belt preacher. Recently I have been making remarks about Southern fried chicken.thank you for your reply.
ok,so im going to order one for me now!!But i have MSI computer, they don't accept credit cards for shipping&handling fee,it seems that i have to sent a check to them...C'mon,it's 2009.Quote from: Geek-9pm on November 11, 2009, 12:38:31 PM
Recently I have been making remarks about Southern fried chicken.
Haha yeah I seen those remarks. yeah you can upgrade with his installation disk to the windows 7. BUT only one key per computer. So just use his disk if it comes earlier, install without key and then just input your key later on when you get your disk.

Remember though to install the same version of win 7 that matches the key coming with your free upgrade (home, ultimate, etc)

Solve : System restore really screwed up my windows vista, please help a lady?

Answer»

A FRIEND of mine did a rutine SYSTEM restore on my windows vista because he changed a few settings he didn't like and now I can not run any programs other than internet explorer, notebook and just a couple other simple programs. He can't remember what date he used for the system restore either and now it has been a couple of months.

Now when I turn on my computer, it takes 10 min to click on all the "This __________ program is not working". I can't run office, I can't run quicken, I can't run anything really.

What do I do? PLEASE help a lady! Hello Kennedy. A couple of things. First, if it's been a couple of months the restore point is GONE. Second, it sounds like you have other issues. Have you run a full scan with BOTH your anti virus utility AND MalwareBytes? If not, I suggest you do so.yes, I have run both and it came up with nothing serious. PLUS i had antivirus software running ever since I got the computer and before he ran the darn restore, everything was running just fine...It seems to be more of a missing driver (scuse my ignorance if that is not the right verbiage) or missing something that is making it so none of these programs can start for some reason....Well, you can boot to the Vista CD and do a repair, but I don't know that it will help. It will, however, make sure all system files are in place. ok, I will give it a shot. If it doesn't work, what would you suggest?
Come back and let's go from thereThanks so much! Sure. I won't be around much longer tonight but there are plenty of bright folks here willing to help. I'll CHECK back in the morning.

Solve : Bugcode_Usb_Error and Driver_Power_State_Failure on Windows Vista 64-bit?

Answer»

I have an HP Pavilion tx 2000 with Windows Vista 64-bit and 4.00 GB of ram. Processor: AMD Turion (tm) 64 x2 Mobile Technology TL-64 2.19 GHz. My laptop is also a touch screen.

I have been getting BSOD's since July 2009. My laptop will only STAY on for about 5-10 minutes before getting a blue screen. I recently sent my laptop in to get the problem fixed, and they claimed it was, then two days later I got two different TYPES of BSOD's: Bugcode_USB_Error; Driver_Power_State_Failure.

RIGHT now my computer only works FINE in Safe Mode (currently in Safe Mode with Networking). The only thing I have connected to my USB is my printer and I also have a Fingerprint sensor (not external).

Since I had my laptop recently "fixed" I can only find .dmp files from November 8th on. I would appreciate any help you all can offer. I'm a college student and I need to use the FULL capabilities from my laptop and can't do this with my computer constantly shutting off.

Thanks in advance.

I recently bought a used Sony PCL-384L laptop. OI am hoping now it isnt stolen.... Opps!! Anyway, after system boots it goes to the windows login screen asking for password. Solve : Student in crisis - Windows won't work unless in safe mode!?

Answer»

I have a Toshiba Satellite L300-1AS laptop and have got windows vista home premium service pack 1. I have recently had trouble with my computer when it restarts, it will load up to the point just before you have to input your password and then will COME up with an error message saying 'Windows visual studio c++ 2005 has REQUESTED to be terminated in an unusual way' and then won't load any further. For some reason it seems to be linked to when i updated my iTunes when the version before the current one came out as I have tried loading it up in safe mode and for a while i managed to get my computer to work by system restoring it to a point before I updated iTunes. This was fine for a week or so but now the system restore doesn't go back far enough and so doesn't work, however i have not reinstalled iTunes since. I'm pretty stumped as to what else to try so I was wondering if anyone else has EVER had a SIMILAR problem?

Thanks

Solve : Vista only boots to Start up Repair?

Answer»

It's interesting. You didn't have any problems running Vista restoration, using recovery DVDs, correct?
What was the original reason for running recovery process?From what I have been told it simply, and suddenly, started doing this thing with going through the above mentioned cycle of booting through the screens and ending on the Start up Repair. I've got the various "Signature" numbers generated by the Start up Repair as follows;

Sig. 3 6.0.6000.16386.6.0.6000.16386

and I've been combing MS website following different threads that have had the same problem (And they are VERY numerous! ;-)) As I mentioned above "this seems to be a common problem." Now if I can just find the person that has figured it out! LOL I have a tendency to lean toward thinking that it is a software problem. Possibly a corrupted, or missing file in the startup sequence. Corrupted boot sector file or? I also think the the "Format" done by the "Restore" DISC is probably a very low level format. Therefore the 0 sector is not being wiped and rewritten. That is the one thing I haven't done yet. Trying to avoid it for obvious reasons. (i.e. the rigorous and mind bending installation of the above mentioned files after the Format and Fdisk commands. Getting my HANDS on a "Valid" command.com Autoexec.bat and Config.sys for Vista!) I'm way passed the point of worrying about saving any user made files. They were long gone after the first format from the restore disc. Just want to get the system installed to the point that I can go and start installing the SPs 1&2. Which I HEAR are giving their OWN share of problems after install. Anyway.....those are just my thoughts base on my own inexperience. ;-) That is why I'm on this site talking people like you. In hopes that someone (with more experience than me) could help shed some LIGHT on this issue. Thanks Broni Chuck <><Quote from: chucwar on November 13, 2009, 11:59:17 AM

I also think the the "Format" done by the "Restore" disc is probably a very low level format.

Low level format's haven't been used in a very long time, they have a tendency to destroy Hard Disks now.Hi Quantos,
You're right. Then again, it seems MS has been systematically destroying things all along! LOL My point is, that I don't think the zero sector is being rewritten by the OEM Restore disc. Got any ideas? C ;-)Here is a good article on LLF for you.

Have you attempted to repartition the disk?I was afraid you were going to say that. If you read the post 3-4 before this one (the long one) you will see that I was trying to avoid a full wipe, partition, and tracking down the Vista standard boot files (unless you have them.) But I don't think there are any utilities to check for corrupted boot files. I tried to run MS SFC.exe from the DOS prompt but it didn't work. I've got a copy of Ultimate Boot CD but most of the stuff on that is antique! So if I totally wipe the HDD I'm not sure I have everything I need to get it going again to attempt using the OEM Restore DVD. How about a little guidance?

Solve : cpu usage question?

Answer»

I use 4 computers - hard.

I use Memory Improvement Master to tell me when I'm working too hard.

My quad core Vista Machine maxes out it's CPU with 67% memory use

My dual core CPU with with Vista in safe mode varies, sometimes maxing it out the CPU, other times not.

But my single core machine with XP home uses 96% of its memory but never goes over 6% on CPU usage.

Page file usage is about 50% in all three.

I bought a new computer with Windows 7 and a dual CPU and ALTHOUGH I haven't put Memory Improvement on that computer the way it handles its work load tells me it isn't doing anything spectacular.

So should I revert all my Operating Systems to XP home or is there another issue I should consider? And will upping the memory in the XP Home machine make that stellar?

SandyQuote from: stumble on November 13, 2009, 03:59:27 AM

Sandy
What you should do is stop USING Memory Improvement Master (whatever that is) and just let the computers do their jobs. Unless you are experiencing some specific problems do not worry about or interfere with OS memory management. Also, you're mixing up CPU usage with RAM usage. Which one is it, you're talking about? Can the op please GIVE the correct NAME of the program he is using?
I can not find it in Google. Whatever he uses, it's, as Allan said, unnecessary garbage.

Solve : Cannot Install Programs-Says Installation already in progress?

Answer»

Whenever I try to install or uninstall a program a message pops up saying an INSTALLATION is already in progress. This has been happening for the last couple weeks. The computer has been turned off and on/restarted many times in this period and from what I can tell there are no installations in progress. Any help on this issue would be greatly appreciated! What is the EXACT message? The exact message is: "Another installation is in progress. You must complete that installation before continuing this one."

I have since found a solution though, thanks for replying though! Please download SystemLook from one of the links below and save it to your Desktop.
Download Mirror #1
Download Mirror #2

  • Double-click SystemLook.exe to run it.
  • Vista users:: RIGHT click on SystemLook.exe, click Run As Administrator
  • Copy the content of the following BOX into the main textfield:
Code: [Select]:reg
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Installer\InProgress
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Installer
  • Click the Look button to START the scan.
  • When finished, a notepad window will open with the results of the scan. Please post this log in your next reply.
Note: The log can also be found on your Desktop entitled SystemLook.txt
Thanks for the reply, but as said in the previous post my solution has already been solved elsewhere. I solved it by doing a "clean boot". After the clean boot I restarted with a regular boot and all installations worked FINE; some program must have been interfering beforehand.

Once again, thanks for your reply though!Oh, OK

Solve : Windows Vista Internal Failure - Error 0x80040707 When Installing A Game?

Answer»

First off, not sure if this should be in the games section, but it could as Vista because this is a general problem on Vista. Feel free to move to games because this happened when I tried to install RollerCoaster Tycoon 3.

Basically it's that lame "Internal Failure... Error 0x80040707" problem. If you need any more info, like a screenshot, I guess you could Google it. Yes, I've Googled it but none of the solutions have solved my problem. Yes, I looked at my registry to see if any of those items were not directed to the RIGHT path.

Yes, I know that my graphics driver is bad, but it works with RCT3 because I've installed it on this computer before. Yes, I looked to find all items in registry and whatnot that was linked to the old installation. Before, I had the expansions "Soaked" and "Wild" installed, but now I'm only planning to install RCT3.

Any help would be appreciated. I've looked basically everywhere. Couldn't find a solution that worked.

Thanks

Solve : Java 6 update 17 will not download?

Answer»

Installed in W7 is Java 6 u16, but when TRYING to install latest update 17 it wont work...there isnt a mentioning that W7 is compatible, just Vista, XP etc. Anyone else with that problem? Using Opera v 10.01 as browser....Java 6 Update 17 is definitely compatible with WIN 7, at least if you're using IE. See http://www.java.com/en/download/inc/windows_new_ie.jsp. I don't know about Opera.

Ah, I found this: http://www.opera.com/support/kb/view/375/. It says:

"Opera uses the Java Runtime Environment (JRE) on your system directly instead of using the plug-in to RUN Java applets. It is not possible to use the Java plug-in with Opera."oh, wow.....lol. which means I have to uninstall it than, I downloaded it from another source....it was installed but as aid Sun java says: ooops, you have no java se 6 up17 on your PC....

Solve : windows 7 installing problem!?

Answer»

Hi,
i am trying to INSTALL windows 7 on my dell pc, and this message appears

"During install "required CD/DVD drive device driver missing!!!
the DVD is SONY CDRWDVD CRX310S.

i am not sure it this is a DVD problem because i've another external LG DVD RW, i tried to use it and same problem appears.

thanksYes, really does sound strange. How about some information about what kind of computer you have. What type of INSTALLATION are you trying?
Which version of Windows 7 are you trying to install?
I have installed Windows 7 RC as well as the Windows 7 home premium. I have used two different computers in two different DVD drives, including one in external. Never had that particular problem.
Are you trying to install to a hard drive that is completely blank?
Do you have Windows Vista available? And does Windows read your DVD drive okay? Also is this a desktop? Do you have another hard drive available that you could use to assist in the installation?

I'am trying to download windows 7 Ultimate 86x and i've 2 HDD, 250GB blank and the other one 160GB with windows xp installed on. i tried them both and same problem appears, my pc is Dell Optiplix 745 core 2 du, all SATA cables

i uploded all my pc information opn this link
http://www.2shared.com/file/9149756/6cff07ee/DxDiag.html

i don't have windows vista!

thnaks

Tou computer isas follows:
Quote
Operating System: Windows XP Professional (5.1, Build 2600) Service Pack 2
System Manufacturer: Dell Inc.
System Model: OptiPlex 745
BIOS: Phoenix ROM BIOS PLUS Version 1.10 2.6.2
Processor: Intel(R) Pentium(R) D CPU 3.40GHz (2 CPUs)
Memory: 2046MB RAM
There does not seem to be any problem with that.
I have install Windows 7 on a Dell 280 using an external DVD and made it into a dual boot with the XP.
So you can boot the DVD, but after it starts up you get an error message? It SAYS it does not have the driver for the DVD?
Is this a Sony OEM Smart Bay DVD-ROM?
It wont work in Windows 7 **

Any way you can beg or borrow another DVD reader?
That is the best solution. Later you can get the proper drivers from Sony.

**
Otherwise, you just have to try and try again until it works. The generic driver in Windows 7 will time out before the Sony is ready. If you keep on forcing a retry, it will somehow install windows7, but it will be a hard job.

Solve : installation halted when expanding files?

Answer»

i suspected my previous hardisk was infected by virus or maybe hardware problem i don know, therefore i took it out and PLUGGED it into an external hardisk casing, and backup all my files from that hardisk at another computer, and i did...however, i bought another new hardisk which is 500GB, which i wanted to replace the old one, coz the old one was quite small only 150GB and was using windows XP pro, there after i placed my new internal hardisk which is brand new, without any windows in there into my computer, which is the desktop...and put a windows 7 DVD in there, and i thought it could help me to CLEAN up and install new windows there...and then i waited......everything went fine, but during the installation process where first is COPYING FILES, and then Expanding files AROUND 50 or 60 % it stopped, and then it shows

Windows cannot install required files. Make sure all files required for installation are available and restart the installation. Error code.0x800706F8

Or sometimes it shows blue screen, the one with

if you SEE this at the first time, please blah blah blah....

i have tried 2 different Vista DVDs installation...and 1 windows 7

all cannot....either it shows the blue screen, or stopped only..

i also tried the repairing options....which is useless as WELL....

please help.Where are all these Windows CD/DVD's from and do any of them say Microsoft on them ? ?

Solve : Vista Re-install?

Hello
I have a acer 4720z laptop, with Vista it was running slugish wanted to do a reinstall loaded disc 1 said it was loading files gray bar at bottom of screen, then it goes to a blue screen ( a problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer. If this is the first time you've seen this stop eror screen, restart you computer. if this screen appears again follow these steps: The bios in this system is not fully ACPI compliant. please contact your system vendor for a updated bios.
technial information: ... stop: oxooooooa5 (oxoooooo11,oxooooooo7,oxffd11o1o1o,oxo3ooooo1)
I did the F2 for bios changed boot , it would not load any of the disc...
Any direction would be great

I did the F2 for bios changed boot , it would not load any of the disc...
What exactly did you do in BIOS?Hey
Thank for taking the time to reply
In the boot section I changed the CDROM to #1 and D2D Recovery to enabled SAVED and exit put in the Systems Disc and re-booted and a screen came up with a gray bar across the bottom which said loading files, lasted about 90 seconds and then I got that blue screen and the screen froze, that read like I said in the first post. For some reason it does not want to load the System and Recovery Disc, but it would load a XP disc.
What am I doing wrong?
Thanks DonQuote

Possibly bad recovery CD??
Did you try to clean it?Hey
By cleaning do you mean the disc, if so I did and no change. Is there any other way I could load the disc? I had to order the recovery disc from ACER, should I contact ACER and ask them about the disc, if they could be bad ? I did e-mail there support after I TRIED them a few times and they gave me what it would cost for tech support. yea. With the message I got on the blue screen about the bios should I try updating my bios? I have never done that, is it difficult? Where would I get a step by step procedure? Should all of the Recovery disc be bootable? I loaded them in my other computer the only one that activates the cdrom is the recovery disc 1of 1 and all I get is a system CD (E) window transfer images OPEN folder, transfer images view slidshow print pictures. The other 2 disc don't activate at all?? If I were to load a Windows XP disc it would go right to.. press any key to load windows XP..?
Thanks again
DonYour Acer may have recovery partition.
Try to press F10 at Acer logo and see, if you can get there. Thanks for your reply

I tried that also, no luck, Can you answer this, I just notice that the disc they sent me read FOR USE ONLY WITH AN ACER PC. Could that be why It does not load on my laptop? Or does not matter?
Thanks
DonYour computer is made by Acer, so I ASSUME, they sent you correct disk.
Try to go to BIOS and reset it to defaults.
Don't forget to save changes. Thanks for your reply

I have done that also, no luck, So you don't think that it says for use on a PC only makes a differant. Darn I thought I was on to something. Any other direction?
Thanks
DonQuote

Laptop is a PC too.

Run hard drive diagnostics: http://www.tacktech.com/display.cfm?ttid=287
Make sure, you select tool, which is appropriate for the brand of your hard drive.
Depending on the program, it'll create bootable floppy, or bootable CD.
If downloaded file is of .iso type, use ImgBurn: http://www.imgburn.com/ to burn .iso file to a CD (select "Write image file to disc" option), and make the CD bootable.

NOTE. If your hard drive is made by Toshiba, unfortunately, you're out of luck, because Toshiba doesn't provide any diagnostic tool.

Solve : Vista Boot Problems?

Answer»

I'm running Vista on an HP desktop. It has worked great for some TIME. However, when I tried to boot today it does not recognize OS software. Also, it does not read the original DVD for booting the system.First guess.
Something happened to the C MOS battery.

Sometimes all you have to do is put it in and out.
(Also check for dust and oxidation or water damage.)
Then go to the BIOS setup and confirm that it finds the drives. You may have to reset twice for it to find the drives.
Please comae back here is that does not help.Quote from: Geek-9pm on November 13, 2009, 06:41:26 PM

If the battery is dead then it is dead, taking the old one out and putting it back in will do nothing. Replace the battery, they are only a couple of dollars.

When you replace the battery make sure that you are grounded to the COMPUTER case to avoid killing anything with static electricity.Sometimes all you have to do is put it in and out.

**sigh**Exactly what happens when you boot?if the battery was not in fact dead and somehow contact was broken, removing and reinstalling it would restore the connection.Quote from: BC_Programmer on November 14, 2009, 09:30:21 AM

Agreed. The point however is that for a two dollar part you are better off replacing it if you are GOING through the trouble of removing it.Thanks for the advice. Everything's goodQuote from: lynnp on November 16, 2009, 01:21:22 PM

Solve : External Monitor Only Works in Safe Mode with Networking! Help!?

Answer»

I have a laptop (a Dell inspiron 1420) and the screen stopped working , and i paid dell 50 bucks for them to tell me that i needed a new screen which would cost too much money to buy, so i brought an acer x203h lcd monitor which worked perfectly for almost 2 weeks. one night, i left my COMPUTER , so i guess it went into sleep mode or something, and then the acer screen said no signal.. i tried the Fn key plus F8 key, but it doesn't work when i boot the computer normally. It only works in safe mode with networking. I called acer to see if they could help, but they said the problem was with dell.. i refuse to call dell because my warranty expired. im SAD. please help me Turn off all power saving features in control panel...i tried, but it didn't work.. thanks so much though.. any other suggestions?Since it only works in safemode that tells me the incorrect video drivers are installed...Because safemode uses generic Windows drivers...
Okay so should i refer to the acer website for the correct driver? or should i refer to dell's website for the correct driver? or windows? (SORRY, i'm a LITTLE slow lol)i found the acer driver, but idk how to install it Acer is the monitor...shouldn't need drivers...
Dell is where to get your video drivers.Quote

(sorry, i'm a little slow lol)

And don't be concerned about this...it's why we're here in the first place.

With Dell machine's you can normally visit their site...enter the Service Tag # from the sticker on the machine and it will list all drivers for that particular machine...Okay Thank you guys for your help. I downloaded the video driver and installed it and i see the icon for it on my desktop.. when i double click it , it tells me to choose a program that i should open the file with... should i even open it? or is DOWNLOADING it enough?? Is it a .zip file ? ?noo! it's not a zip file
