Answer» These problems just started 2 days ago. Generally I leave my computer running all day as I am working with it off and on most of the day. However, 2 days ago I left it running and went back about 1/2 hour later and the screens (2 monitors) were black. I thought it had gone to Sleep, but it wouldn't respond to any keys being pushed or to the mouse being jiggled. It is set to NOT Go to Sleep. When I started it up it wanted to know if I wanted to start Windows normally. Once it started I noticed that there was a message for me in the lower bar telling me that my Backup didn't save and to try it again. So, I did, multiple times and it wouldn't save. I did a System Restore to 2 days before the problems started and that didn't help either. About this time I started getting messages that Adobe Flash Player crashed and I updated that program, then it tells me that it needs missing plug-ins and I tried getting those to load and nothing happened. I did another install of Flash Player and that SEEMS to be OK now. As long as I am working at the computer, it doesn't shut down and I'm not sure as to exactly how many minutes it takes of inactivity before it crashes as I'm not in the room when it happens. I am running Windows 7 Professional 64 BIT, and the Asus computer is about 2.5 years old. I am puzzled as to what is using 114MB, but doesn't show up on the drive when I OPEN it. I also have an external HD where I manually back up my .docx, .xlsx, files. Answer» I have just gotten a new COMPUTER set-up with Windows 7. I have 3 Drives (1 SSD - boot, 2 500GB HDD - data) with 8 partitions between them. A few of my Folders have a lot of files, and when I go to those folder in Windows Explorer, in the DETAILS VIEW - when I click sort by file date - it seems to take a long time to sort and there is a green bar moving across the top. With this set-up in Windows XP, I did not get such a delay. Is this just part of Windows 7, or is there some setting I can change so I don't have to wait so long for such a sort?Try this: Open a folder that you know is slow to sort, and right click in the folder, (in an empty area, not on a file) and choose "Customize folder", and in the Customize tab, locate the "Optimize this folder for:" dropdown, and make sure it is set to "GENERAL Items".

Answer» Dear clever people, A wile back a was watching a film on my pc (using window media PLAYER) when I noticed that the entire screen started pausing briefly every 2 seconds on a continues basis. the same thing now happens wile playing games or using other media players like KMP. In an attempt to to solve this problem I RAN TASK manager, and at processes I noticed that TESTDDCCI.exe using 340k mem, was the only other process running. After ENDING the process the problem immediately stopped. So now every time this happens I end the TESTDDCCI.exe process. Now my QUESTION is this: What is TESTDDCCI? Is it save for my system if I end this process? and is there a permanent solution for my problem? Always greatfull, The not so clever guy... If you have an LG monitor, then the testddcci.exe may be part of the LG EasySet software that you probably don't really need tp run. Disable it. I believe it is supplied by LG India. If you do not have an LG monitor and you do not run EasySet, then consider doing a virus scan. Does your Task Manager show the path of the testddcci.exe file? Is it something like C:\Program Files\LG Soft India\EasySetPackage\bin\TestDDCCI.exe ... ?

Answer» I have a NEW computer with Windows 7 and have 8.0 GB of RAM. I know that it's easier to install and remove fonts with Windows 7 but is there a limit of fonts you can have installed before it starts bogging down your computer? grog1961, Afr ER many years of computer USE, I have never seen any prof that fonts are an issue. My the time Windows 95 was released it became a non-issue. But I am often worn. Somebody please correct me I have so many fonts I have given upon trying to manage them and just memorize the names of my favorites. I like Comic Sans and Lucida Console. And Ariel is always good. Still, I see not reason to wipe out fonts. One program requires fonts in other languages and I would not want to mess with it. If you ever, ever want to use your computer with non-Roman fonts, you don't want to remove them. Geek - PLEASE - either stop using speech to text or start spell checking. Answer» hi all ,i know a bit about computers am in no way an expert i know how to use what things are and thats about it ! my WINDOWS 7 pc keeps turning it self off now for a few weeks i re-installed windows 7 but still the same have cleaned it all out there is no dust in there have run malware program and shows nothing am really STUMPED i have read a bit on the internet about the problems and am stuck not sure what to do am running windows memory diagnostics tool now but showing no problems i read it could be overheating problems but not sure will try and GET hp monitor i think it called and get the temps up any help WOULD be greatly welcomed thanks, bruce!try using the speedfan sofftware to see what it reads. do post logs here if the software gives you one, or a screenshot of what it tells you.And reference possible heat problem, might try setting up a desk fan blowing into the case holes and see if that makes a difference. If it does you'll know a bit more.Can you post the complete specs. of the computer? While thermal could be the culprit(video card) you can try using the onboard. Since you run safemode without a problem and randomly restart in normal mode, try unchecking Automatic restart to be able to point the error message next time it happens.

Answer» You got it, BC_programmer. Now I am ready to drop this. I doubt there is much interest. Digging into the keyboard is very old school stuff. But if anybody wants to get into it, there is a lot written about it. You have to admire how the IBM engineers could over create a keyboard design so many YEARS ago. The keyboard had a significant computing power by itself. The main advantage of the design was that you could handle everything over a serial interface. This allowed the IBM keyboard to have a small thin wire. A fat wire would have reduced the chip count. But IBM made the right choice. Thin is in. Nowadays you buy a standard keyboard for about $12 -retail! Hard to believe. As for the Fn key, it is used on LAPTOPS. Once source implies that the decoder chip handles it and it is not visible to the BIOS or the OS. Only when you press a second key does the decoder sends it out over the wire, but with a different code than the second key by itself you hit. So it is a hardware modifier. Others build on what Microsoft innovated.

Here is my situation: My new laptop is HP 550, intel core duo, 32-bit, Windows Vista Business, service pack 1. I am using a wired ADSL connection. I use TCP/IPv4, with “obtain an IP address automatically” setting. Because a fixed IP address is needed for my work, I use a free software CALLED NetSetMan to switch the IP address each time when I am in office or at home. For antivirus software, I use Avira AntiVir Premium. I did the initial setup at home, but at that time, there was no problem to connect to internet at home. Then, suddenly one day, I could not connect it to internet, so I started investigation. I use a standard LAN cable. This is not a problem with my cable or the provider because I have no problem to connect my old laptop (Windows XP) to internet. The TCP/IP setting is exactly the same in both computers. Even if I close the Avira AntiVir Premium completely (from Task Manager, I close the process, ETC.), still no internet connection is available so I think it’s also not a problem caused by my antivirus software. It says “Unidentified new work, Local only”. Afterwards, I tested the internet connection in office. In office, it is always no problem, so the computer itself is OK. I think it’s a problem connected with Windows Vista, maybe. Back at home, following my friend's suggestion, I disabled Windows Firewall. Then, the problem was solved. But, when I started the computer again, I could not connect to internet although the Windows Firewall was disabled. When I switch the IP setting to office configuration, and then back to home configuration by using NetSetMan, the internet connection is usually back, but only for about 5 seconds, then it cannot connect to internet again. Following advices I FOUND on internet, * I already disabled TCP/IPv6, but the problem is not solved. * I already did Device Manager => Network adapters => Intel(R) 82562GT 10/100 Network Connection => Properties => Power Management => Check off “Allow the computer to turn off this device to SAVE power.”, but the problem is not solved. * I also did this (http://support.microsoft.com/?scid=kb%3Ben-us%3B928233&x=11&y=13), but the problem is not solved. Here are some additional information * Even when the internet connection is impossible, it is possible to access other PCs in the network (local network can be accessed). * When I ping to www.google.com and www.yahoo.com, it shows IP address (DNS working?), but it times out because there is no reply coming. * When I do ipconfig /all, it shows 2 DNS servers, but the top one is 0.0.0.0. * When I access the ADSL modem, the physical address (MAC) is registered. However, the above entry is created for each user, so if right now, you're the only user, $RECYCLE.BIN folders for other users can be removed (deleted). WARNING! Don't delete anything, until I'll tell you, which one can be deleted, because you may cause some serious problems. To see those folders, open WINDOWS Explorer, go Tools>Folder Options>View tab, and uncheck following entry: OK Vista warning. Answer» I'm still in the process of learning what I can do, and what I can't do when it comes to Vista WINDOWS and XP Windows. The question I have is, am I able to share a printer between the 2 different windows (computers) without any problem? If so, what are the steps to take in order to successfully get a printer shared between the 2 computers? The reason I'm asking, is before in the past before I had gotten this computer I had tried to do it and was unsuccessful. But when I finally did get it, I ended up having like 3-4 different shared groups in the network (I hope that makes sense). If anyone knows how to "correctly" do it. I would highly appreciate some steps in how to do this. Thank you so much!1) First thing you need to do is to make sure that the 2 computers are on the same workgroup (Vista is called WORKGROUP by default and XP is called MSHOME - you can name them whatever you want to). Do this by right clicking computer, properties and then computer name. 2) Run the network setup wizard on the XP machine, turn on file and print sharing and restart that. 3) Next on the VISTA pc you need to make sure the network you have created is set to private, so network discovery can be established. 4) Have a look through both computers firewall settings and make sure you allow file and print sharing and that you trust the network. That should be all the steps you need to set it all up. Just go to START and then NETWORK and the XP machine should appear. If you want to connect to the printer, you can just navigate on the VISTA machine,to the network connections, find the XP machine and then find then find the printer, right click and click connect. It might ask you to install the drivers and just press accept. Just in case when you find the printer over the network and try to connect to it you get an error message: what you need to do is install the printer on the vista machine with a local port (just so vista has GOT a correct driver, as xp does not hold drivers for vista), then go to printer port properties and CREATE a new local port and use the path to the printer as the name for that port (ie \\192.168.2.3\hpprint) or whatever else the printer is named. also use the computer name rather than its ip address as ip address might change

Answer» Hello, I have vista. I was converting a avi to a mpeg and the cursor FROZE on the screen. Two minutes later the vista blue screen flashed on my screen advising me to restart my PC. When I restarted my PC the monitor would not respond and just showed a black screen. The keyboard would flash once. All the FANS work. Thankyou!I would start with this: Run memtest86 (memtest86.org) Burn .iso to CD and boot from the CD. Test one RAM module at a time for at least 2 hours; longer is better up to 7 passes. If both modules pass, then test both TOGETHER for at least 4 hours. ANY error and the module is bad. Then, I would test the hard drive with the drive manufacturer's diagnostic tools - download from your drive manufacturer's website. Best of luck

As I was testing it out, I was using my "secondary" account, and now I want to move this music to my "main" google account. Recently, I DOWNLOADED my library (a good set of 10k files or so) but it places all of the songs in folders with the album name, the rest of my library is organized under artist. I would prefer the songs to be all in the same directory. However, there are multiple file TYPES (depending on whether I uploaded the music, bought it on iTunes, ripped it, etc) such as FLAC, MP3, and more so just searching the extension takes a long time to load the results and I MIGHT miss some. The purpose of this is to rename the songs that are incorrect, delete songs I don't like, etc. This weekend I am undertaking the organization of this mass of music. Then to back them up (I know how to do this part). And then I will reupload the corrected songs to my main Google account. My question: Is there a way to "unnest" files easily? They are all only one level down. Thank you for any help! This can be done with a batch file. Answer» I have Vista, AMD Athlon(tm) 64 Processor 3500+ 2.21GHz, RAM: 2.00GB, System Type: 32-bit OPERATING system, using Explorer 9 (yes, I know it's old and I also can't download a higher Explorer). I use Windows Photo Gallery for my pictures from my Kodak EasyShare Z7590. I have been using this for many years and have not had any problems. I have emailed pictures before, no problems. I have also mailed videos from MediaImpressions with no problems, and put videos on Facebook. For some reason, now my computer will not do any of those things. When I sent a picture today to a friend, she says it comes up as MMDI, or something like that, and will not open the picture. I have to COPY my pictures to My Documents in order to get them on Facebook. I haven't a clue as to what is going on. Even though I've had a computer for a long time, I still do not know how to "change" any settings and am scared to try something on my own for fear of making it worse. Can anyone help? Kodak EasyShare Z7590 The camera takes pictures n different levels of detail. If you set it to the highest detail, the size of each image will be very large. But tarts OK. But you have to copy each image to the 'My Pictures' folder is a smaller file format. If not, the e-mail program will refuse to send such a large photo. Notice that the Windows Photo Gallery allows you to adjust the file size of a photo before you send it. How to Send Photos Via Email (Windows) Hope this helps. Answer» Hi I'm not sure if this is the right section to post this topic in but it is about windows 7 so I'm a give it a try.. So I'm using a toshiba laptop windows 7 with an intel pentium processor and it's a 64 bit windows 7 ULTIMATE. My laptop has gotten a bit slow over the years and I want to get it back to it's original speed.. I don't think I'm up for doing anything else other than restoring it to factory settings. My laptop comes with windows home premium so if i restore it to factory settings that's what it will reset to, but I want my windows 7 ultimate along with all my programm files and everything else important to me so I got a 500g external hardgrive to do a system image restore so i backed up everything to the hardrive for the system image restore, but the thing I want to know about system image restore is if I return my pc back to factory settings then is it possible for me to use the system image restore AFTERWARDS and BRING back all my files including the operating SYTEM, windows 7 ultimate and basically just everything that was on my pc before I reset it and if so will my computer still return to it's original speed after the sytem restore? Those are my 2 important question I really want to know. I've backed up everything on the hardrive except System (F:) because apparently that's not necessary at least that's what I've heard. I WOULD appreciate it if I could get a response as soon as possible for important reasons and thanks a lot for the help..Yes you can restore it and no, it will not make it faster.
