Solve : Problems with a dll?

Answer»

Hello everyone,

I'm experiencing some troubles with physx3cooking_x86.DLL ; I've put the file in the sys32 folder and tried to manually register it, I then get an error message saying that the dll has been loaded, but COULD not find an entry point.
I'm running windows 7 64bit, and the dll that I need doesnt have a 64bit version (already searched on Nvidia website, no RESULTS).
Then, I tried putting the dll file in the syswow64 folder, and use this COMMAND %windir%\SysWoW64\regsvr32.exe %windir%\SysWoW64\namedll.dll but again, i get the message that the entry point was not found.

What am I supposed to do?

Thanks in advanceI'd VISIT the How to Survive Forums...

It's a 32 bit game BTW but should still run in Windows 7.and again, another useless comment by patio.

Well that sounds cool. Could I run a program like speed FAN to see the voltage outputs of the PSU? And a stress test freeware for the CPU? While booted to the Linux disc? Here are the Dump files off my hard drive with the OS on it.

[recovering disk space, attachment deleted by admin]Also:

I bought a new video card and ram. Neither fixed the problem.

I was able to hook up my HD to a USB and PULL the files I posted above off of it. Quote
Could I run a program like speed fan to see the voltage outputs of the PSU?
The voltage values are accessible by BIOS utility. The latest dmp log is DATED JANUARY 15, 2014 only which points to Apple Charger. Remove the software/driver or turn off any utility pertaining to this charger features. Another old dmp log from November refers to Etron USB hub or drivers including SteelBus(?). If on newly installed they are present, please remove them and then check the difference.

I've given up and I would like to reformat my computer with Windows 7.

when I try to boot my computer with both the 1 terabyte drive in the solid state drive I cannot get past the BIOS Screen.

when I boot my computer with just the solid state drive the same problem occurs.

however, when I boot the computer with just the terabyte driveit works.

I want to load my operating system on to the solid state drive. what do y'all think is going on? Should I buy a new solid state drive? Could that have been my problem the whole time?I Tricked it by only plugging in my terabyte drive and booting it to the cd-rom. once the install windows of things came up I plugged in my solid state drive.

when I hit refresh the solid state drive popped up in the options of where I would like to install windows.

however when I try to select it to install windows I got the message. Windows cannot be installed to this Disk. This computer's hardware may not support booting it to this disk. Ensure that the disk controller is enabled in the compUters BIOS menu.

but I can't get into the BIOS with the solid state drive plugged in

AhhhhhhYour pluggin in the SSD with power to the system ? ?
Not a good idea...Ok... For some reason it all worked when I switched the Serial ATA data cables between the drives. I've got a fresh install of W7 on my Solid state and I can access my mass storage TB drive with no problems...

Idk what was causing the issue.. but it seems to be fixed.

Are there any diagnostics I should run?SSD won't need it...
Run the diags on the TB drive while you sleep tonite...

Solve : MalwareBytes and the future of my machine?

Answer»

I had an issue (software I think) with my machine. Superdave, Allan and Patio helped me by SHOWING me the way to MalwareBytes. Now it's running better than NEW. My question:
Would Malwarebytes be a good tool to keep on my machine and run on occasion?
I am thinking of buying a copy.
Can I use it on my wife's laptop as well as my desktop?
What HAPPENS to the registery when I format the HDD?
I have TWO real drives and two virtual drives in my machine.
It will boot from either of the real drives.
I format the virtual drives when they fill up.
So far I have not erased my operating system.
Isn't Windows resident on the real drives?
Forgive me for being so longwinded...

Solve : Interesting Mystery?

Answer»

First off im not an IT newb, i have 14 years in the industry with more certs then i care to count, with that being SIAD some of the most interesting puzzles we have to solve are often our own

HP AIO 6000 Pro business
Windows 7
4 gb ram

this interesting behavior occurs only at boot time

From POST to password screen it is 30 seconds

from password submit (welcome blue screen) to black screen with mouse pointer it is roughly 35 seconds (at the welcome screen)

the interesting part is the next screen is completely black, only thing present is the mouse pointer (which can be moved around and is not frozen) this screen lasts for almost 3 solid minutes before you here the windows welcome sound and see the desktop load, loading with about 70 processes on boot time

Ive checked msconfig and some startup items in the registry, all the usual suspects, no virus or malware on this machine,

Any thoughts

Once it starts the HP runs OK. - Right?
Set a task to turn the machine on -
about 3 or 4 minutes before you need it.

well if this forum doesnt have real tech people at least its got funny ones LOL, i never turn my pc off, thats one of the first things they break you of in REAL IT school

lol

Some empirical research shows taught each installation of Windows has some difference, even if the hardware is the same. No simple theory explains this.

If you need an explanation, here is one. The hardware design is asynchronous, that is to say, not all the hardware is driven by the same clock or phase. This is by desing. But during installation some errors are made in timing and this results is slight changes in settings. Hard to prove.UMM *censored* so your saying my hardware is slowing down the startup

i think lol

*censored* was that was that even english

lol
This might help- it's a KB article detailing an issue where setting a Solid Color background can cause around a 30-second wait time during startup.

This links to a similar issue with a similar delay time due to Group Policy settings here.

Another possibility is if you have a network drive on an unavailable machine that Windows cannot access, it will cause a similar delay if it's set to "reconnect at startup".

They are only 30 second wait times though.

One thing I can think of is that Active Directory's Default timeout is 3 minutes, so if the computer thinks it is on a domain or some part of it thinks it is it might be causing everything to wait for it to timeout.

I'm sure if Geek-9pm continues posting in this thread we can have a feast on red herrings.Does the same thing happen in safe mode? If not, try a selective startup:

Open msconfig and on the General tab choose "selective startup" (uncheck all three items) and reboot. Does the problem still occur? If not, start adding items back to msconfig one or two at a time, rebooting after each change, until the problem reappears and you'll have identified the offending process. This is clearly a time consuming procedure, but it is the best way to DETERMINE if some process loading with the system is the cause of your problem.

After you've isolated the cause, do not use msconfig to permanently disable the process. Instead, if it is a service go to START - RUN and type: services.msc (then press enter) and disable the service OR, if it a program, you can download & run a simple app such as Mike Lin's Startup Control Panel (http://www.mlin.net/StartupCPL.shtml) to enable, disable, or otherwise manage startup programs.

Also, welcome to the forum . In the future, please give your topics a subject that relates to the question. "Interesting Mystery" is cute, but not helpful. Thank you.I hate to send you on a treasure hunt/goose chase, but you may want to compare the msconfig, and Manage=>Services=>Services and Applications to "good" installations:
  • What other Windows 7-running', 4 GB Rammin' HP AIO 6000 Pro business machines do you have that are running the same applications?
  • What was the primary function that this machine was configured for? I ask because:
    • What identical machines do you have that serve the same function?
    • What other types of machines do you have that serve the same function?
    • What identical machines do you have that are not serving the same function?

If you're going to start comparing config files, etc., THAT is the order in which you'd want to compare them.

Also -
  • I presume this machine is always physically in the same place, connecting to the same network?
    • If sometimes it's on Ethernet and sometimes it's on Wifi, do you detect this black screen in both conditions? Or just one or the other?
  • When did you first notice this? When was the machine put in service?
  • Since then, when have you noticed this black screen? On every bootup? If not, can you detect a pattern? (One out of three, Every Thursday, etc.)?

There is a program called "Soluto" that, once installed and REBOOTED, will show you which programs are sucking up how much time during your boot. It's basically a graphical interface of your "Services and Applications", but with the durations added.

Also, patio once suggested to me a piece of software called Startup CPL from Mike Lin that helps manage startup apps.

thanks for some solid answers

as for the info requested its not on a domain its on a workgroup, its a businessm odel machine but its the only one, its in a home setting, mainly configured for light graphics editing, video editing, and web design, plus general office work, it has a NAS connected to it as well as a usb external drive, (there is the standard error when windows comes up on the desktop :windows cant connect to one or more of your drives blah blah blah) but 3 minutes solid for that, the background is a pic of the golden gate at night, ill try that program

Ill take a peek in the MSconfig area and with the services, but unknown whats causing it, when i bought it this machine was a refurb, however i wiped it and put my own install in it, before you ask yes it was doing this with the factory settings as well

Some good stuff to look through, ill get back to you soon!

Thanks everyone!

went to soluto site, its a business program that costs per membership, NOTHING im interested in, our IT company has a proprietary software that runs circles around that for our remote monitoring, ill look for some boot time freeware

ill get back to you all when i have some more info

FYI their site is slower then dirt, lol
Interesting that Soluto has changed so much since I installed it!

The version I have is free, and it basically runs something called "Chop Boot", where it shows everything that loads as part of your boot, and how much time each is, and you can decide whether or not it loads in your boot, delays and loads in background later, or is on demand. It's a desktop app, not any kind of enterprise solution. Sorry for outdated advice - it works for me!
Yeah

i have found that a good product rarely stays free, they build it, test it, develop it, sign people up, then raise prices, which causes all but a few to go to the next "free thing" and those that stay keep the company afloat

I digress though, the winner in this mystery seems to go to BC_Programmer, i found out NAS which ahs its own drive letter and IP at boot might have caused it, by disconnecting the NAS and then rebooting i was able to boot from POST to desktop wallpaper in around 30 seconds, the sad thing is i need that NAS to be connected and mapped, it seems tho for now whenever i must reboot i will have to "disconnect" and remap it, i tried creating a shortcut so that if disconnected when i clicked the shortcut it would reconnect, but that just sent winblows on a search for a path not found again

Very interesting, we went from almost minutes to 30 seconds, i also tweaked a few things in startup, but the difference was when i dropped the NAS drive, like i said doesnt help but now i know, and explains why it was a mystery, rarely would anyone think to check that area, most of us would go for startup problems, or disk issues, or malware, at least i did!

One of the interesting things about the sort of third party tools mentioned earlier, is that many of them actually have built-in windows versions that are oftentimes better.

EDIT: I guess since it's mostly solved now it's not as useful, but I thought I'd post it anyways).

Windows Performance Analyzer and Windows Performance Recorder is a Windows 7+ Tool that can be used to record and analyze all sorts of information about Boot-up, shutdown, reboot, standby/resume ,etc. You can get a very useful set of statistics and information on Boot about CPU usage, Network usage, what processes are using the system, etc. with it, which might be helpful in trying to determine the cause of this delay you are experiencing.

The first step is to configure the Windows Performance Recorder- for obvious reasons Windows doesn't record traces all the time. I search for it with the start menu ("Windows Performance" and both the Recorder and Analyzer show up)

Within the Recorder configure it- For your case setting Performance Scenario to "Boot", Detail Level to Verbose, and Logging mode to File. Also set the "Additional Profiles" and check off the CPU, Disk I/O, File I/O, Registry I/O, and Networking I/O options, which are in the "Resource Analysis" drop-down. You might also want Scenario Analysis->Minifilter I/O activity selected.

Once Selected, I believe you Press "Start" and then close Windows Performance Recorder. Reboot, and when you get back to the desktop you can start Windows Performance Recorder again. This time, it will allow you to stop the trace and save it to a file. This file will be massive- ~3-4GB. Once it is saved, you can start Windows Performance Analyzer to open the created trace file.

The amount of information recorded is massive and will hopefully provide some insight into things. It gives you a few basic graphs to start off with that don't seem super useful, but you can actually drill down- for example, let's say during that long pause the CPU is throttled at 100%. Surely that would indicate a process hogging CPU time. You can grab and view all sorts of graphs and even view a breakdown of CPU usage over time by individual processes, same for Disk I/O and other similar resources.

Yeah, I literally just discovered LogMeIn Free - which I've been using to remotely manage my "home network" from the road for nearly ten years - does not exist anymore.Logmein hasnt been free for awhile now, we use a software called Dolphin, its a complete IT ticketing, purchasing, accounting, and remote support suite, however you will never find it on any website for sale, it is one of the most comprehensive IT suites out there (well not out THERE) i was pleased that the solution was so handy, all had good input, even the first replys that were such an enigma

Solve : Boot Analyzer, anyone??

Answer»

I'm looking for a program that will show me exactly what is happening during boot up and how long each operation is taking. I'm aware of the Microsoft program Bootvis (see more here: http://www.weethet.nl/english/hardware_bootvis.php), but unfortunately its a tad unreliable and Microsoft has also stopped supporting/updating it. Bootvis has issues with XP SP2 and P4s with Hyperthreading which makes it virtually useless for any modern computer. It seems that Bootvis is the only program of its kind. Nowhere is there any hint that ANOTHER program exists to log the boot process with detailed time information, much less optimize anything. Can anyone give me any leads?

Thanks in advance,

--Oober Noober

P.S. Yeah, yeah, I know XP is supposed to optimize the boot procedure on its own every few days. I also know that Windows always works correctly all of the time, and VISTA will be released on time, and everything you read on the internet is TRUE, and the tooth fairy exists, and...Someone just told me about a program called SOluto, apparently it used to be free,

Not sure if that would work for you, MSconfig can also tell you whats running at startup

HTHThis is a really old thread but I suppose folks might RUN into it. I won't repost the entire details here but if anybody stumbles upon it- Windows 7 and 8 include a Tool called the "Windows Performance Recorder" and "Windows Performance Analyzer" that can be used for this purpose.Quote from: needsomehelp on February 26, 2014, 01:49:59 PM

(I have 2 monitors, and the big one, the one I use most, is where it should be, but it's gone over to my smaller right hand screen, and is hidden on it's right hand side, I need to get it to the bottom of the main (left) monitor.

Solve : Can't locate some scanned files?

Answer»

Hi guys

Sony Laptop, basically this is what has happened.

I did a Windows Back up on 11/11/13.
I scanned further documents into a folder between 11/11/13 - 9/12/13
They were scanned as (.Jpg).

The laptop didn't boot - up on 9/12/13.
I tried everything to get it to boot-up.

I purchased an external hard drive on 20/12/13.
I carried out a Rescue Data on 20/12/13 to an external hard drive. The Rescue Data was successful.

I have now USED the Vaio Data Restore Tool.

I don't see the files scanned between 11/11/13 - 9/12/13.
So where would those jpg files be stored in the Rescue Data back up? I can't find them.

Thanks in advance

Please state the format of your way of writing dates, just to eliminate any confusion with regard to them. You stated the missing ones were Windows backups...
Hopefully they were'nt wiped when you used the Viao backup as they wouldn't be included in that...the Viao backup restore would only be the files since that backup was used.

Hi Patio

I'm probably not explaining it correctly.

Windows Vista - Control Panel - Back Up Files - was last done on 11TH November 2013 (Recovered scanned documents)

I scanned documents after 11th November 2013 up to 9th December 2013 (Documents not recovered)

9th December 2013 to 20th December 2013 laptop wouldn't boot up.

I'll try a search as suggested.

Hi Patio

No joy with JPG or Zip.

The Rescue Data recovered 18.1GB of Data. The manual STATES use Rescue Data if the Data has changed since a Back Up.

Bizzare, I've got a RescueFile List with the following extension:- RFT File, the extension should be RTF I THINK.

It doesn't seem to be recording all of them, since the dates don't reflect the frequency of the crashes.

Anyway I hope you can see what's going on here, it's really unpleasant. Thanks.

DangerousRaccoon1) Have you installed any NEW hardware or updated any drivers recently?

2) Are you doing anything specific when the bsod's occur or do they happen randomly?

3) Do you allow Windows Update to INSTALL drivers?

4) Please open device manager. Are there any yellow or red symbols?1) Haven't updated or installed anything, not even any new programs.

2) I'd like to say it happens when I'm watching videos in chrome and have a bunch of tabs open, but I'm pretty sure it's happened when I've just had text documents open. So seems random.

3) I have it set to "check for updates but let me choose whether to download and install them". And I haven't actively installed anything.

4) All of the icons in all of the sections are free of yellow or red symbols. So no WARNINGS there.Okay, let's do the following please:

1) Go to the website of your display adapter manufacturer and download and install the latest driver (uninstall the old one first).

2) Make sure you have the latest version of Direct-X installed

3) Let's check the ram: download memtest (http://memtest.org/). Burn it to a cd using a dedicated .iso burning utility (http://www.petri.co.il/how_to_write_iso_files_to_cd.htm), make sure the cd drive is at the top of the boot order in bios, then boot to the newly created cd and run the utility.

4) Let's also check the hd: right-click on a command prompt icon and open as administrator. In the command prompt window type:chkdsk /r (then press ENTER). You'll be told the disk is in use and asked if you want to run checkdisk on the next boot. Say yes, exit the command prompt window, and reboot.

5) Check to see if there is a bios release significantly more current than the one you currently have

6) And just as a precaution, please run full system scans with both your anti virus app and MalwareBytes

Solve : Recovery PLEASE HELP!?

Answer»

Greetings!

I know this is the windows forum but this is windows on my mac so dont leave this page please. I had windows 7 dual booted on my macbook and i created another partition and threw the partition table off. Now Windows 7 wont boot. Dont care. all i want is the data from that partition. I PLUGGED the drive into my PC and using Active partition recovery i was able to find my stuff but no where is there an option to retrieve it? The partition will not show by just plugging it in on a PC. And i want is a few folders of pictures and documents. Im looking at them in active partition recovery but cant get to them! WHY? any ideas? Running Windows on a MAC violates both EULA's so i'm afraid in this instance we cannot assist...

Sorry. What EULA? Macs support windows legally. They have software that let you run windows on a mac. its called bootcamp fully legal. So what EULA? They are called Microsoft.

And somehow i knew this would degenerate into legalese...Quote from: patio on February 18, 2014, 10:11:46 AM

Running Windows on a MAC violates both EULA's so i'm afraid in this instance we cannot assist...

Sorry.

Aren't you thinking of running Mac OSX on a PC (a 'Hackintosh'?) that is definitely against the Apple EULA. AS far as I can see, dual booting Mac OSX and Windows on a Mac, using the Apple supplied Boot Camp violates neither the Microsoft nor Apple EULAs, as far as I can see. I have read that Microsoft put a clause in the Vista EULA stating that installing Vista to an Apple Macintosh computer requires Vista Ultimate EDITION or Enterprise, no other editions qualify. I do not know if this is true, and I don't know if it applied to later Windows editions than Vista.

http://gizmodo.com/233231/vista-on-the-mac-only-legal-with-enterprise-or-ultimate-editions

Apple's own notes about Boot Camp and supported Windows editions:

http://support.apple.com/kb/ht5634

thats exactly what im confused about. and totally agree. Running mac on windows PC is against the apple uela. it violates it and that copy of OSX. using a virtual machine or dual booting windows on your OSX machine is legal by both apple and microsoft says nothing against it either. THey even have virtual box for MAC! so why im being DENIED help is beyond me.Now that we have established that what you are doing is legal (as long as the Windows install is properly licensed), have you tried the steps mentioned on this page? Among other things, it mentions a program called rEFIt...

https://discussions.apple.com/message/17504656

yes i did look at that article. And Hundreds others. After a TON of digging around i found a piece of software that found my windows Partition and copied all the documents over to another hard drive and i had my stuff BACK. I then reinstalled it. Sorry. Just by the time the first guy gave me an ANSWER that i was doing something illegal which is 100% legal and then arguing i found my solution in the program "active partition recovery". Thanks for your help anyways.

My PC goes to sleep EVERY 30 seconds. I am typing AWAY, then the top heading fades and nothing is registered. This is CURED by ONE mouse CLICK, but every 30 seconds, is very distracting. Nothing obvious appears on the control panel.

Any ideas for a fix will be gratefully received. It appears that this is a common problem here.

You nay need to download a large file from Microsoft that has a MD5 or SHA-1 CHECK sum. So how do you test it in Windows?

How to compute the MD5 or SHA-1 cryptographic hash values for a file.

When you apply the hashing ALGORITHM to an arbitrary amount of data, such as a binary file, the result is a hash or a message digest. This hash has a fixed size. MD5 is a hashing algorithm that creates a 128-bit hash value. SHA-1 is a hashing algorithm that creates a 160-bit hash value.

Solve : BSOD Please help?

Answer»

I have owned this computer for 5 years and have always had this problem, although now is much worse. Randomly, my computer will either reboot or BSOD. When I get the BSOD, it performs a crash dump, with photo attached. I have not noticed much of a pattern - sometimes it happens multiple times a day, sometimes once a week. It is extremely annoying and I am about to buy a new computer to replace it if I cannot figure out how to fix it. It may happen more often when I am watching video on the internet, or I may be making that up. I have tried switching the ram sticks, and using each one alone, with no change. I keep my computer very updated and I use AVG antivirus, CCleaner, and antispyware programs.

Any HELP would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Computer Specs:

Windows 7 Pro SP1 64-bit
Intel Core i7 940 @ 2.93GHz
6 GB RAM
NVIDIA geforce GTX 295, driver 331.82

[recovering disk space, attachment deleted by admin]You say you had this for a lung time. Therefore it must be something that was always wrong.
First guess, the CPU is not right for that motherboard.
What is the model of the motherboard? Documentation?

Does the documentation really say the Intel Core i7 940 is good on that particular motherboard? The motherboard is MSI X58 PLATINUM CROSSFIRE. It is compatible, I just checked the website: http://us.msi.com/product/mb/X58-Platinum.html#/?div=CPUSupport. I BOUGHT it at cyberpowerpc, so it is supposedly well built.Download BlueScreenView:
http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/blue_screen_view.html
unzip downloaded file and double click on BlueScreenView.exe to run the program.
when scanning is done, go to EDIT - Select All
Go to FILE - SAVE Selected Items, and save the REPORT as BSOD.txt
Open BSOD.txt in Notepad, copy all of the content, and paste it into your next reply

If there are a whole lot, just post the ten most RECENT and delete the rest. When I open the program it says 0 crashes with no dump files. Do I have to do anything to scan? Otherwise, I probably deleted it when I ran CCleaner last night. I also updated some motherboard drivers and flashed my BIOS, which I've never done before. If it crashes again, I will try BlueScreenView again. Thanks. What was the BIOS flash for ? ?I downloaded an update utility for the motherboard and it said I had v 3.0 and should update to 3.9. I don't know much about flashing the BIOS, except it can risk destroying your computer forever. While it's true that the bios should only be upgraded if there is a specific reason or need to do so, 3.0 to 3.9 is a big jump and there were likely a number of fixes introduced that may be of benefit to your system. If the bios flash failed your system wouldn't boot, so you're good there.

I LOOK forward to seeing the bsod report if there are future crashes. The static #'ring of the BIOS doesn't neccessarily mean it's a big jump...FYI:
3.0 release date 12/4/08
3.9 release date 1/28/11

Since sometimes my computer will reboot without BSOD, or video games will crash often, I downloaded Open Hardware Monitor to check temps.

Motherboard x3 (max): 38, 64, 48
CPU x4 (max): 53, 55, 54, 53
GPU x4 (max): 63, 54, 64, 52

There are some temps in the 60s, is that too hot? Could that be a separate problem I am having? I am going to try some stress tests later today.

No BSOD yet, unfortunately I have gone as long as a week without having one.

Solve : how to open MS-DOS Application??

Answer»

I have a few files that them format are .com and .exe . they don't open with Command prompt.
help me please
thanksWhat version OS are you running? what are these programs you are trying to run?

I believe you are running into an incompatability between the OS and the programs that are .com and .exe . You may need to run them in dosbox or on an OLDER computer with earlier OS installed to support them. I have some old games written in the 1980s that only work on Windows 98 SE and older OS.

http://www.dosbox.com/Hi hoseink08,

Win 7

Click start type in cmd in the search it should POP up the command prompt window then type in cd filepath.exe or .extention it should load up if there is any ERROR it will not load but you may be able to see the error msg.

Win XP

Click start click cmd then us same step as above.

For general reference.
Most new PCs are coming with N64 bit OS, either Winnows 7 or 8 versions. These 64 bit versions do not allow the 16 bit programs to run in native mode. For good reasons. It is by design. To do a 16 bit program in the 64 bit environment, there has to be some kind of shell or wrapper around the program. This is called a Virtual Machine.
Here is a video.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IwxoSnWsMdk
Also, look at virtual box.
https://forums.virtualbox.org/
What's the name of these files...and where are they from ? ?

Solve : NOT running programme as an administrator?

Answer»

Hello,

I have downloaded a programme that automatically gets administrator rights. I need to turn those administrator rights off. Is there any way I could do that? I googled a lot, but I couldn´t find anything that would help me.
Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!

Best regards,
Oehtab

Edit: I forgot to state important fact: why I need to change the admin privileges is: it disables Windows Aero, but I wanna keep Aero enabled. If it dis-ables AERO then it is at best a poorly written app...

Find an alternative...it may be a good idea to mention which app it is for more assistance.I can´t find an alternative. It is anti-cheat programme. The thing why I need this is that the programme UNIVERSAL Anti Cheat (www.uac.ac) ALWAYS disables Windows Aero function. But one guy managed to Enable Aero while running UAC and most likely used cheats thanks to it. However, the creator of the programme said it´s only a bug and moved on. I want to prove that it was not a bug and that he cheated.

Edit: If anyone thinks I want to misuse it, I can give a link here and you can read the discussion yourself. It's impossible to even view that poorly built site...It doesn´t matter. I beg you, is there any way to NOT MAKE it run as an administrator? Any programme, or anything? Or is there a way to not let anything disable Aero?Generally if a program needs administrative rights it's for a reason.

That said if something disables Aero and the response from the creator is that it's a bug and to ignore it you have to ask if this is the sort of software you want to be using, certainly sounds poorly written. It´s a freeware, but there´s not any other good anti-cheat that supports SWAT4 - an 8 years old game. At least I don´t know any. I am playing a tournament based on that programme, and even if I hate it for it´s poor programmation, I must use it if I want to play the tournament.

I need to GET that CHEATER, nobody BELIEVES me that when Aero is enabled, it made the programme bug. If anyone helps me out with that, I ´ll appreciate it a lot. :/

Solve : Stuck in infinite reboot (A newer version of .NET Frmwrk 4 is already installed)?

Answer»

Here are my computer stats:

Genuine Windows 7 Pro 64-bit SP1 - logged on as administrator, UAC disabled
Core i7 3770, 16 gigs RAM, 1TB hard drive (model unknown), nvidia GTX 680, onboard Realtek sound, Microsoft Security Essentials + Spybot S&D + PeerBlock
Computer is a personal machine - not on a network

Yesterday I bought the Groupees "Be Mine X" bundle (http://groupees.com/bmx). Afterwards, I downloaded and attempted to install the game "Last Knight" from that bundle. At the end of the process, both Unreal Development Kit and Microsoft .net Framework 4 installation ran (The game's developer claims the .net setup should not have happened, but it did. I downloaded the file from the official Groupees page so I can't imagine it was a rogue program or anything).

Then a Microsoft .NET dialogue box popped up with this message: "Your installation will not occur. See below for reasons why: Same or higher VERSION of .NET Framework 4 has already been installed on this computer." When I closed that message, a Windows dialogue came up with this message: "You are about to be logged off. Windows will shut down in 1 minute." Without any confirmation from me, all my programs closed and Windows rebooted within about 10 seconds of that message.

Upon reboot, immediately after the "Welcome" screen but before the desktop appears (on a black screen), the same two dialogue boxes come up again in the same order. My desktop is only onscreen for a few seconds before it is shut down again and the whole process repeats again (There is not enough time for me to access any programs or the command prompt).

Currently, I am only able to boot into safe mode with networking, which prevents the reboot from happening. I have run a full Spybot scan, which turned up absolutely no problems. Unfortunately, I do not have System Restore enabled, which I acknowledge is a screw-up on my part - lesson learned for the future. Here are the other steps I have tried:

- Rebooting into the "Last known good CONFIGURATION," which leads to the same dialogue MESSAGES and result
- Rebooting into repair mode. After about 20 minutes of trying to find a solution, Windows told me it was unable to fix the problem.
- Creating a new .bat file in my startup folder containing the line "SHUTDOWN /a". Unfortunately it looks like the reboot process happens too fast for this command to be executed.
- Uninstalling the previous versions of .NET Framework. Currently my installed programs shows .NET 1.1 and .NET 4.5 installed, along with several updates for 4.5. Trying to uninstall any of these in safe mode results in an error message saying the Windows installer cannot be accessed.
- Moving the windows\system32\shutdown.exe file into the recycle bin. This results in an error message that says I cannot access the file without the permission of TrustedInstaller. Trying to access the TrustedInstaller.exe file gives the same error message.

And that's where I am now. Quite a major pain for me. Can anyone help?See Here...Regarding the .NET Repair Tool, I could not use it because it will not run in Safe Mode. However, I caught a lucky break anyway - On one of my restart attempts, the "shutdown /a" BAT file successfully executed in time, so I was able to finish the boot to desktop, uninstall .NET 4.5 along with all the updates. This ultimately led to the solution.

It looks like the culprit was the Unreal Development Kit that was packaged with the game installer. Its process was to install .NET Framework 4, force a restart, and then finish the installation process once the reboot had completed, the remaining prerequisites installed after the reboot included DirectX 9.0c, Visual C++ 2010, and XNA Framework.

Since I already had .NET 4.5 on my machine, the installation process never actually made it to that final step and kept rebooting, trying unsuccessfully to complete the .NET prerequisite install.

I have always hated the UDK redistributable after having problems with it before, though never this serious.

I can't view my desktop. Right when I turn on the computer, the safe mode screen pops up, then it GOES onto the Dell logo screen, and then it appears that it is finally going to desktop, but instead, a blue screen pops up for a split second and it returns to the safe mode screen.

I think I may be able to fix this by reinstalling Windows Vista, but the problem is, I will be losing some IMPORTANT files if I do that. What can I do? Any way I can keep my files from being deleted? All rodent versions of Windows, including Vista, have a repair option.
Place the DVD in the drive and let it boot as if you w ewer going to do the install. You will see an option to repair the system. This will preserve you documents and settings, but restore critical files of the operating system.

Hope this helps.Okay, so I inserted the disc, and now I am viewing the System Recovery Options window. My operating system isn't listed here, so I selected Load Drivers. Now I am viewing a window titled ADD Drivers that says "Insert the installation media for the DEVICE and click OK to select driver." I am confused; what am I supposed to select? Am I supposed to insert the Drivers and Utilities disc or am I supposed to select something from the Windows Vista one?Did a Google search and found this: http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/194765-system-recovery-options.html
I selected Next on the System Recovery Options window. Now I am waiting for Startup Repair to finish...It worked! Thank you so much!

Solve : Opening multiple instances of same program in windows 7?

Answer» OK so I open a program, say Firefox by clicking on the task BUTTON in the task bar. If I want to open another Firefox window I have to RIGHT click and select to launch another instance. If I click on the task button a second time as it stands, it just minimizes the window.

I would like to be able to click on the task button again to open another window. I has it this way, but for some reason that setting was changed. CTRL + N opens a new window in firefox.

Or clik on the + sign right next to the current open TAB...That'll work for the time being, but I'd like to be able to click the task button a second time to open a window. I don't understand the dilemna...in my Win7 PC the tabs cover my TASKBAR anyways so i use one of the 2 methods i posted...

Someone else may come along with an idea.I right-click the program in the taskbar and then click on new window.

Don't call me "kiddo"..... My girlfriend is a Northerner too, from t'other side o' t'Pennines, (Wigan), so I am used to blunt and straightforward speaking! Gloops, you can relax mate, it's all over and done with, and everybody is happy. Have a NICE weekend, me old mucker.

Many here on this side of the pond use 'guy' freely to address a person in a familiar way. The history of the word is of interest.
Quote

GUY
GENDER: Masculine
USAGE: English, French
PRONOUNCED: GIE (English), GEE (French) [key]
Meaning & History
Norman French form of WIDO. The Normans introduced it to ENGLAND, where it was common until the time of Guy Fawkes (1570-1606), a revolutionary who attempted to blow up the British parliament. The name was revived in the 19th CENTURY, due in part to characters in the novels 'Guy Mannering' (1815) by Sir Walter Scott and 'The Heir of Redclyffe' (1854) by C. M. Yonge.
http://www.behindthename.com/name/guy
Guido Fawkes... Guy was a familiar form of Guido (like Jack for John, Jim for James, Bill for WILLIAM. Tony for Anthony, etc) but often these days Guy is given as a name in its own right. What about Buddy? In Scotland a Buddy is any person from Paisley...

I have posted once before but anyway.. my laptop is not shutting properly mostly after coming back on from sleep/hibernate. The problem pretty MUCH started at the shutdown splash screen. lately its been even worst ever since I had to shutdown manual by hitting the power botton. and now my laptop is getting even worst then before. I don't think I have many days on this laptop before it goes. so I kinda need expert advince asap. I have downloaded a updater that was told by someone online but its not doing anything for it. If anyone have time and know whats been GOING with my laptop please feel free to help out

thanksUnfortunately your post makes no since. You are having a problem with your laptop shutting down... but what is the problem. Is it stuck on a screen? Is a latch broke? We really need some details here. so pretty much the laptop wont shutdown and all it does is stay at the shutting down splash screen after coming back on from hibernate/sleep mode. the only time it shutdown properly is when I didn't put it on hibernate. When it doesn't shutdown properly I have to shut it off from the power botton and I think I did it enough to the piont where a blue screen would come up and say something about preventing it from being damage or somethig. but just a lot of problem start happening ever since it wont shutdown properly.
I finally got it to SYSTEM restore and it help a little bit. but the probelm of shutting dwon is still there.
sorry maybe I don't explain pretty well but I hope you can GET what Im trying to say.

thanks. Can you shut down when you do not use hibernate/sleep mode?
If yes, You could try enabling a screen saver like having "WINDOWS" float over the screen instead of hibernate/sleep mode. You can also Consistent voltage on start up.
Do you get a message during the shut-down process?

Solve : Annoying issue in windows XP through 7?

Answer»

Greetings CH!

Been using many different computers in the past few years and found one of the most annoying things that certain windows SYSTEMS do with usb memory drives. (AKA flash drives)

ill plug my flash drive into my system, and go to access it using my computer, to revel my files. Windows will show my files for about a few seconds before the explorer window goes blank. I then have to close that window and re open it to show my files without disapearing. Its a little frustrating.

Kinda annoying. If anyone has a fix that'd be REALLY appreciated. Let me know. PLEASE specify if this is will all USB memory, or just some.
It is known that many USB flash drives being sold are junk, the problem does not show on the very high quality brand-name devices.
Does that apply?
no i use the same flash drives as i repair computer systems. just some machines do this where i have to close the explorer window from the flash drive (the same ones i use daily) cause the computer will display the files for seconds then blank and i have to close the window and open it again. It happens on sertain machines i cant figure out why Insert your flash drive to your computer and open 'command prompt' type your flash drive letter and enter( for example, g: ).
then type : attrib -h -s /d /s ( you will see your files in your flash drive probably )
COPY your files from your flash drive to another place then full format your flash drive.

hope it can help you )

Solve : BSOD 0x8e when installing windows 7?

Answer»

Hello I've been reading countless post these last few days trying to figure out with trial and error if I could solve my problem. I can't, I'll try to be thorough as possible.

I'm RECEIVING a 0x0000008e error shortly after trying to install Windows 7 (this is the repeated error as well when trying numerous attempts), after it says loading files twice and the "starting windows" where the symbol is about to appear, BSOD appears with the STOP error code.

Parts are:

GPU - Used- XFX Radeon 6850 xxx edition (factory oc'd)

CPU - New - I have two new cpu's but the Mobo only recognizes one at the moment, my guess is because I'm not able to update drivers to install the other one. Athlon x3-450 (this was the first cpu to contact with the mobo). FX 4300 is the chip when installed at the moment no bios appears. When the other chip was put back in the bios worked on boot.

Mobo - New - MSI 970a-g46, all ports seem to work fine, bios is fully functional...so far

RAM - Used- PNY Optima 2x 4GB, at first I thought these would be the cause of all my PROBLEMS, I memtest86+ (from a bootable usb drive) these for 10 passes each (over 12 hours) not 1 single error.

PSU - slightly used- Corsair HX850, seems to be working fine

SSD- New- Samsung evo 250gb, changed the ACHI in bios settings as well

ODD - New - generic asus dvd burner

I have ran linux/ubuntu (using the bootable usb drive/iso) as well and received the Black screen of death on that as well. Kernel exception not handled (i think it was).

I also thought maybe it was my boot cd for windows 7 (which I have used before and it worked as intended) so I tried a usb bootable version of Windows 7, same error occurs.

My conclusion from reading is that there's something wrong with the video card driver? No IDEA how to even fix that (if that's the problem)... If I left anything out please tell me, and thank you! Download memtest (http://memtest.org/). Burn it to a cd using a dedicated .iso BURNING utility (http://www.petri.co.il/how_to_write_iso_files_to_cd.htm), make sure the cd drive is at the top of the boot order in bios, then boot to the newly created cd and run the utility.
I did that on fri/sat. I ran each stick for 11-12 hours, I was really hoping memory was the problem. Nope, both of them came out with 0 errors and around 10 passes each.Is the Windows 7 dvd an original, retail version? If so, EXACTLY how are you trying to install Windows?Yes, I tried using the DVD. I've also tried downloading a copy .ISO and formatting a USB as a bootable drive. No luck with that either.

I've read that some people could run Linux fine but not their Windows 7 disc, Linux/Ubuntu also crashes on install giving me a black screen w/ Kernel error.

Edit: I'm downloading Microsoft's .ISO version (x64) again just to be sure the other file (old) wasn't corrupted in any way.You did not confirm that the dvd is an original, retail version and not a copy. Also, if you have other Operating Systems on the drive I would suggest formatting the drive, running a diagnostic on the hd, and then starting from scratch.Retail version - yes. It is somewhat old/scratches I must add. The SSD is new (samsung evo 250gb), nothing has been able to be loaded on it hence not being able to even get to the windows partition screen. There are all sorts of anecdotal stories all over the web regarding sporadic issues with ssd's. I wouldn't be surprised if that's the issue. Having said that, it sounds as though you've tried everything else so other than the hd I'm not sure what else to suggest.Interesting, well. Tomorrow I have a new WD Blue 500GB coming in the mail. This would definitely help with the SSD theory.

Do SSD's need to be updated (with the software disc that comes with it) before first use?

Does it matter any that the mobo detects the SSD?

Edit: I found an old WD 250gb HDD, tried using that, same thing happened. The error code was 0x7F this time. I also tried to just boot it as-is. Same error code. I'm starting to think it's the Mobo.I suspect the Windows media itself...
But i've beem wrong before...

When i CLICK connect on a wireless network my computer completely CRASHES. It is a fresh install of windows 7 and I have INSTALLED my wireless card drivers and motherboard drivers. The computer does not get a blue screen it just stays with a frozen screen.

GTX 770 2GB OC Version
Coolermaster 500W
GByte B85M-D3H MOBO
Intel Core i5 4430 S1150 Ret
It depends... but It could be for a conflict IP. do you use any other devices for connect to WIFI except your computer? If yes, turn off all devices except of your computer then TEST again.
If you could connect to WIFI you should choose specific IP for your PC or change the other devices IP.
If no, Uninstall the WIFI DRIVER, rebooting then install the latest version.

Solve : Computer locks up, then causes boot error...?

Answer»
Ok here goes..

About a month ago I was having an issue with my video on on my computer going out. The computer was still on, just no video at all. After checking the power supply and uninstalling and re-installing drivers. I decided that maybe the card itself had went bad. It was an older Geforce 9400 and had a lot of hours on it.

So I tried 2 other brand new cards and they both did the same problem to me. After I would get the card installed(and yes, I did remove the old drivers and installed the latest driver for that card) the card would work for a couple hours, the computer would then freeze up and then when I would restart the computer, windows wouldn't load. I would get a black screen saying" Windows has experienced an error" "Push ctrl+alt+del to restart". No option to go into safe mode. To get my computer working again, I would completely have to reinstall windows. Which also wasn't easy most of the time because a lot of the time when I would go to install it, it wouldn't detect my hard drive.

Finally I decided to give up all together running a video card and just run off my motherboard. And now its doing the exact same thing with it too. It'll eventually freeze up, id restart it and I would get a boot error and windows wouldn't load. So now Im stuck and have no idea whats causing it.

All I can tell you is that during all this, the temps on the computer stayed good. I inspected the board and card and found no burnt capacitors that I could see. During all my reinstalls I used the most up to date drivers. The short times the computer was working I scanned with avast and spybot to look for virus and malware, which came up NEGATIVE. When this trouble all started I had not installed any new software or hardware. I had not changed any bios setting either.

It sounds like you have a custom built pc. I do computer repair at home and I have to say that not getting a video signal is one of the most frustrating things that you can have so I feel you on this issue.

Here's what I would do. It sounds like you might have some failing hardware so let's do this. Take the side cover off and lay your system on it's side. Take out almost all the hardware so that you just have the motherboard, one stick of ram, power supply and the fan for the cpu. Disconnect everything else. Disk drives, cables, ram, fans, everything.

See if you boot up your system from the ONBOARD video. If your system now boots up, you have something that you took out that is causing the problem. Add the hardware back in, one piece at a time, test after each change.

If your system doesn't boot up this way from the onboard video, take the motherboard out of the system and put the board down on a non conductive surface like a piece of cardboard or an ESD type mat. Put in one stick of ram, fan for the cpu, wire for power button and see if the system boots up with the motherboard out of the case. If it does, then something in the case is causing the problem. Make sure that no wires are going under the motherboard.

If your system is not booting up with the motherboard out of the case, then either your motherboard is GONE, your cpu is gone, or your power supply is gone.

If your hard drive is not detected in the bios, windows won't see it when installing. Make sure that your hard drive is SET up correctly.

In your bios, usually the optical drive is listed first, followed by your hard drive. When connecting your drives, make sure that the right cable goes into the right spot. If you're dealing with sata. start at either sata 0 or sata 1. If IDE, match up the cables with the right spots on the motherboard.

Also, try resetting your bios.

Try this process out and see what happens.

Hi. I am using windows 7 Home professional. I INSTALLED Epson 3540 and I can print to it wirelessly; I can scan with it but I cannot set it as the deault printer.

I get error message 0x00000709. I researched a little and I believe I need to alter the registry to recognize the printer.

I set up two different users on my computer and in each I can setup up 3540 as default printer (in regedit they point to the correct printe,r the 3540) but in the main user ACCOUNT I cannot setup 3540 as default.

I WENT in to regedit and in windows NT; current version, windows, devices in my main user account I have device pointing to an old printer I do not have.{ Device Reg_SZ workforce610 (network), winspool, Ne00:}

If you've gotten this far, I don't see your problem. In your case it looks like you need to rename the key, not change the data, so you can just right click and rename. Double click if you need to change the data STORED in that entry.

If there is another user that has it working how you want, you'll need to login to their account. When you do, you can use regedit to export the registry key to a reg file. Then you can log back in to your account and run the reg file.Wish things were easy: sigh; When I right click on device i get a message telling me I do not have permission.

any ideas? very frustrating that my two other user accounts I can set the printer as a default but in my main user account I cannot. Any other ideas will be greatly appreciated..

Thx.

Solve : USB Transfer Speed Slow for the last 5%?

Answer»

Hi,

I have a Windows 7 64-bit machine with an AMD Phenom II x4 965 processor, ASRock 890GX Pro3 motherboard, 8gigs ram, a 64gig ssd OS drive, and a Storm Scout SGC-2000 case.

Every time I go to transfer a large file (500+mb) to a flash drive (multiple drives ranging from 1gb - 32gb) it will go extremely fast, as expected, until about the last 5%, then it will hang for 2-4 minutes. Is there a reason this is so inaccurate? Should it be going faster? This has been the same even after I reformatted and resinstalled win7.

Any help would be great, thanks in advance!

[recovering disk space, attachment deleted by admin]Actually a normal occorence since the file header and end are both written at the end of the process...perfectly normal.
P.S...try TeraCopy if you WANT to speed things up.Completely normal. Your flash drive isn't transferring at 152MB/sec - it's basically caching the write, so you see a high transfer speed as the file is written to cache, then it has to catch up with itself and actually do the write to the drive.
As patio says, Teracopy or other alternatives will copy a little faster than Windows Explorer, but you won't get anything to write faster than your flash drive can manage.
The above should be disregarded if you do actually have a fast USB3 flash drive capable of writing at 152MB/sec, but there aren't many out there. Thanks a lot for the quick, accurate responses guys. I assume there is no way to change this to display a more accurate representation of overall time to complete the entire task? I will look into Teracopy, although most likely just live with windows. At least I now know there is nothing wrong with my system!

Thanks again!Basically it boils down to Calum's explanation, somewhat. Data from that file already in the file cache will mean that data is READ in much faster than if it was to hit the disk.

The Write, however, is more deterministic. Windows Vista was well known for it's wildly inaccurate predictions. Those predictions and problems were a result of the copy being changed to use a write cache; meaning that the operation would go really fast until, as Calum noted, it had to actually start performing the write operations and hitting the disk. People got pissed because when the dialog was gone, data was still being copied in the background.

Windows 7 (and presumably change this, however. Now, the dialog will stay until the copy is completed in it's entirety- thus why the progress bar stops near the end. As far as the User-level software is concerned- the copy has completed. It's done. All the data is transferred. However, in reality, that data is still waiting in The write BUFFER to actually be written. Win 7 will finish copying everything, But what it does is also ACQUIRE a handle to the operation, and then it waits on it. What this means is that it will stick around until the copy is actually finished, and tries to flush write operations.

For the ProgressBar, this is a bit of a tricky thing to represent- there is no way to really know how much of the data is actually transferred to disk and how much is still waiting to be written. So it just sorta sits there, waiting. For the copy to actually complete. Thanks for the detailed reply, BC_Programmer. This makes much more sense now!ADD thanks from me too. This is one of the best threads tees month!

In which there is a check box in the lower left that allows you to select for the choice to apply to as many files that are same name.extension, so if your copying 102 files and of which 52 of them are same filenames.extension and you chose one of the 3 options and clicked on the checkbox to process all 52 with the selection of how to handle this, the 52 would be handled in the 1 of 3 ways that you were offered to handle it.

*Note: The biggest problem with like filename.extension files is that the dialog box will display a date/time stamp and if you are too quick to click for an overwrite of the destination with that of the source, you can potentially overwrite a newer file with an older file and lose work in say an excel spreadsheet ETC, so I generally do not USE the checkbox for replacing all 52 as in this example if there is the potential for older versions of a project to overwrite newer project files. However if you know that say the thumb drive that has files on it are the newest working copy and that of what is on the hard drive is older, you can click this check box and it will process the like files all the same vs having to agree 52 times to the dialog box. Thanks Dave, I appreciate your prompt response!
I started out on an Atari, too!

Solve : Need HELP Please - emachines T3642 won't load windows Vista?

Answer»

Hi, I'm trying to help my neighbor. He has a T3642 that boots to the recovery screen/start normal screen, but won't go any further. I choose recover, nothing happens. I choose start normal, it just reboots. I've checked the internals, all looks normal. I checked the bios, all looks normal..........

Any IDEA's on this before I wipe the whole thing back to factory specs?

He's got family pics he WOULD like to save, otherwise he could care less. Just trying to help with that (saving the pics) before I wipe it....

Thanks
Jim
What is NEW or different SINCE the last time everything worked properly (ie, new hw, new sw, virus, error, etc)?If all you need to do is retrieve some data before a wipe and clean install you can hook it up to any working PC as a slave drive...
Slave Drive Tutorial...
The other option...same concept would be buying an EXTERNAL HDD enclosure...get one with A/C power if you decide to go this route.

mounted image content is not displayed.

With PowerISO I mount the image, but the content is not displayed.
There is an additional station but remain empty. It worked OK UNTILL a few weeks back.
Maybe I turned something off.

ThanX for helping.

RobinIf other images mount and display contents properly, then your ISO image may have gotten CORRUPTED.
If no images mount and display properly, then your PowerISO may be corrupted - REINSTALL it.

Solve : HDD Help Please?

Answer»

I have a LAPTOP here Acer Win 7, when I boot it sometimes says the following:

Check Cable Connection, PXE.MOF, Exiting Intel PXE ROM, No Bootable Device Insert Boot and press any key.

I have tried sfc /scannnow it failed, says I have to reboot to complete some repair first and try again, when I do same thing happens.

I also have tried chkdsk /r and fix and I get a message about the file system cannot be repaired. Now I'm not 100% sure what OS of Win 7 it is as I can't get any info, that info I could get if needed.

Basically the HD isn't showing up or loading, sometimes it clicks then will run normal but nothing happens won't load etc.. I also have tried to repair it I used my Win 7 Prem, Automatic start-up repair won't repair it, could this be due to wrong disk?. When the repair console opens it also isn't showing an OS, it's blank...

I have also tried re-seating HD, Ram, Disk Drive and still nothing, and the same thing happens when I try to hook it to my PC, Via USB adapter. The drive seems to run but will not show up on my computer, upon trying disk manager it will not show up there either.

Also sometimes when I try to boot it, it will freeze black screen with - at the top left corner.

I can hear the HD running now and it isn't clicking now as we SPEAK. Hope I provided good info and I hope you can help.

God Bless, DarrenThere seem to be two issues here. The first message may indicate the battery on the motherboard needs to be replaced. Of more importance, however, is that the other hd problems and the clicking sound would indicate your hd is dead or dying. You can download, burn to cd, and run the diagnostic utility from your hd manufacturer. You MIGHT also want to replace the battery on the mobo and then make sure the hd is at the top of the boot device order in you bios. Thanks for the reply, I'm thinking the HD may be dying as it won't even work when I attach it to my PC using my USB connections to hook it too my PC..

I mean it runs but nothing is happening, not showing up on my computer. Would getting the disk they installed the OS on help fix this or prob not?. Forgot to mention when I try going to Computer Managment it will give this message:

Something like Initialize and gives 2 options MBR and GPT, is that bad?.

The clicking sound you hear indicates the hd needs to be replaced.Do you have any advice that can help me get pictures off it, as there is 4,000 really important pictures that can't be replaced?. Again thanks for the help I appreciate it.

Darren As I said, you can run the manufacturer's diagnostic - but from what you've said I wouldn't hold out much hope. You've tried slaving it and that doesn't work, so I'm guessing you're out of luck. I recognize hindsight is 20-20 and I don't want to make you feel worse, but you should have been backing up everything on a regular BASIS. Hard drives die - that's just a fact of life.Yes all good apparently they did get the stuff off of it, so I don't have to worry about anything, you are right about the data I always tell people the same thing. Thanks Allen!.

God Bless.You're welcome.

Solve : Need to read the Registry value and record it?

Answer»

Hi,

I am trying the read the value in below REGISTRY key using system variable or batch file.
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Volatile Environment\ViewClient_MAC_Address

or if possible record is in text file in same computer. Basically there is a application which READS the computer Name and then maps the telephone extension based on the computer name. Since we are virtualizing the desktops, the computer NAMES will be changing and HENCE instead of reading computer name I want to read the MAC address of the zero client which get recorded in above mentioned registry key.

Solve : Windows 7 is slow to start?

Answer»

Hi. I woke up , and turn on my pc, and sudnley he has very slow start , win 7 logo is just freeze , and after some time , he turn on and win 7 is been very slow on begining , refresh is been hard and slow,.

I just reinstall win 7 from the begining , fresh new win 7 but prooblem stay the same.

My PC confg is :

CPU: Intel Core2Duo 2.33 GHz
RAM: DDR3 2 GB 1333 MHz
HDD: 320 GB
SUplly : 480 W
Graphics: 512 MB ATI radeon x1300

PLEASE HELP Once the system gets to desktop have you looked at recources such as available CPU and Memory? * If so how much memory is left at idle, and are the CPU cores idle or active constantly.

I would also INSTALL and run speedfan and see what your system temps are. If the CPU is running too hot it will thermal throttle itself, basically it slows down its processing power by reducing its frequency to like 600mhz to reduce heat creation and this can make a system act just like the issue you have.

Also run MEMTEST86 to make sure you dont have a RAM STICK that is lagging the system out.

I would also check the event log and look for any hard drive errors that may be contained there or locate the brand of the hard drive and download and run their hard drive test utility on the drive to make sure the drive is not getting ready to cut out on you.

Since it is a clean install, it shouldnt be a virus, however a scan for a virus or other malware is also suggested if the problem is not one of the other areas to check above.

*Also if this is Windows 7 64-bit, 2GB is kind of the bare minimum that I'd run the OS on for memory, however if it is Windows 7 32-bit, it is 2 x the minimum memory of 1GB.

From looking at your specs, it looks like you replaced the Motherboard and RAM chose to stick with the existing socket 775 Core 2 Duo 2.33 Ghz CPU and USE an older Radeon Video Card as well with it. The Radeon x1300 is a weak GPU and I am surprised that it has 512MB RAM vs 128MB. I have a similar video card the Radeon x1550 with 128MB Video RAM in the PCIe 16x type card and it is not just crippled by the 128MB video memory, but also the GPU was just not up to par for games. So not sure if you are gaming with this system or not, but the GPU is weak for modern games and you may want to look into an inexpensive upgrade to say a Radeon HD5450 1GB RAM or better card which is far more powerful and in the USA its a $30 card. In your country it should also be inexpensive.

Solve : Partitioned Hard Drive?

Answer»

I have what I assume is a PARTITIONED hard drive in my Lenovo Vista 32 bit laptop. I am getting messages that my drive C is full and I have to get rid of some files. I put it through the CCleaner and got rid of some but apparently not ENOUGH. It shows that Drive C has 29.5 GB of space and that is all TAKEN up, however, Drive D has 105 GB of which very little has been used. I've tried to move files to Drive D and the computer really doesn't want me to Cut & Paste from the Program Files to try and move them. Is there an easy way to do this or to remove the partition so that there is just one Drive C and no Drive D or to make Drive D primary and have all downloaded programs go to Drive D?
Thank you,Post a screenshot of Disk Management...
Normally on most laptops the D:\ drive contains the Recovery Partition...which you don't wanna mess with just in case of a crash. You can't really move installed programs between partitions or drives. If the D: drive is not the recovery partition, which some are, it will be a data partition, and I would assume this to be the case due to the size of it - however, to be sure before proceeding, a screenshot would be best.
Realistically, you need to find out what's actually taking up the space - is it programs? Movies? Music? Photos? Files can be easily moved, programs would need to be uninstalled and reinstalled in the new location.Delete old System Restore points.
Recovery partition takes the place of CD's no LONGER being supplied. If the hard drive fails, you have nothing. Image backup the entire hard drive.

Ahoy there yous guys!

I can get to it by other means, but I would prefer it to be where it should be.

Best regards to YER all. Are we talking about a browser? If so, which one?Alan, I use IE as my browser with a connection to Yahoo.co.uk. Usually my 'favourites'' tag is somewhere on this page but it disappeared. However, I have taken action via the 'reset' option in Internet Options and this seems to have done the trick. I recently had the problem of IE not loading anything up, if you know what I mean and I solved this the same way. Good facility this reset option in Internet Options my friend.

Solve : Windows 7 Explorer.exe crashing?

Answer»

So I have this issue with Explorer.exe crashing on my Windows 7 64 BIT computer, when I go into event viewer it says that the faulting module is ddraw.dll, so I removed and reinstalled the AMD drivers for my graphics card and I seriously thought that it had been resolved but after a week it happened again.
I have removed and reinstalled my anti-virus as well and run a full scan, and also done a sfc /scannow but it still happened to me today.
I did a full virus scan in normal mode and then also in Safe mode. I have also done multiple scans with MBAM.

Please help me with this, I dont PARTICULARLY want to do a full REINSTALL. I had this problem too...but this help me to fix it: http://www.articlesbase.com/data-recovery-articles/faulting-module-ddraw-dll-beware-of-these-errors--1728233.html
I did what they asked and it worked for me SIX month ago.
Hope it works for you.

Solve : Backup/Clone?

Answer»

Hi,

I want to copy my C drive so that if I have problems with the SSD then I can install the copy and boot into Win 7 with all programs etc intact.
Question:-

Can this be done by a backup of C drive or do I need to Clone the C drive ?

Regards,

DaveI just responded to your question on another forum. Here is the RESPONSE I POSTED there:

You would need an image or clone of the drive. This can be done with products such as Acronis TRUE Image (not FREE) or Macrium Reflect (free).

Solve : size does matter?

Answer»

How can I change the size of the pop up page for "edit bookmark", so that the save button is not out of view. As it is, the bottom of page stays below the task bar and can not be used, resulting in the annoying problem of not being able to save any changes to my bookmarks. The right click does bring up the BOX to minimize and to size and when I hit the size option a 4 pointed cursor comes out, but I'am unable to change anything with it.Which Browser ? ?Chrome is the browser I most use. Sorry, not mean to waste your time by having to return. chrome 24.0.0.0
Thank you Try getting an extention for you browser like neat bookmarks
That doesn't open in a popup window and it adds the benefit of being able to search your bookmarks.

Good luck! Well, I CHECKED out some extensions and they did not address my problem. That is, none of them worked to de-size the window. I remember having this type of problem way back before, but can not remember how I managed to resolve it. I really don't want to just bypass this, your suggestion will work for that and thank you, but I want to resize my problem. By the way, would you know how to utilize the size option that comes in the minimize and maximize right clicked box that pops up for other reasons. I'm not sure what it would be called, but it has minimize, maximize, size, move, and close or exit at the bottom. It pops out on a right click. The size option shows a four pointed cursor to be used, but I can't seem to see how to work it. Thanks again.I am sorry to say that I cannot find any way to fix your problem. The window is not a standard window, it is designed by the makers of chrome. Unfortunately, they did not add a way to resize that particular window. I MAY be wrong though, so keep TRYING. If you find a way to do it, please post it on here so OTHERS can benefit from the information.

Solve : audio warning noise?

Answer»

I have been getting an audio warner noise that goes "bee duh" over and over again. How do I stop this? THANK you very much for your support. What is your temps of your system.... most motherboards will give you an audio alarm when they are close to WITHIN 10 degrees of the shutdown temp. Download and run speedfan and check your temps. You may find that your CPU is roasting and the motehrboard is trying to warn you of this. One of my gaming motherboards use to sound like a european POLICE CAR siren when it ran too hot.

I ran into this when I was overclocking and the cheap white aluminum thermal paste dried up and i was reaching 82C with a shutdown temp of 90C. 80C was the temp in which the motherboard was giving me the audio warnings. This was with a 3.0Ghz Pentium D that I was running at 3.4Ghz. I ended up having to remove heatsink and clean off the old dried up thermal compound with rubbing alcohol and applied arctic silver instead and then locked the heatsink back down and now my temps were maxing out at 68C with the overclock. At 3.0Ghz it would run around 53C, and the overclock increased the temp by about 15C

Solve : Laptop Starts with White screen?

Answer»

Hello All,

I have a Toshiba Equium A200 laptop running Vista.

When the laptop starts the screen is fully white so i plugged it into external screen but nothing comes up but
if i restart laptop in safemode with external screen there is no problems at all.

Any suggestions on what might be the error?

Thanks for any help.If the symptoms are that the screen shows post info, logo or details and then goes solid white when windows is BOOTED then I'd be looking at DISPLAY driver issue if the display is FINE in SAFE mode.

To get the external display port to WORK when the system is running with White Screen you may need to perform a function key to enable the external video pressing Fn key and another key that is used for enabling the external display.
