Have you recently installed or upgraded Avast? If so, uninstall it and replace it with a different AV and see if you still have a problem. If it's an old version, try upgrading to the latest release.It upgraded recently . Why did it cause bluescreen?Apparently your system doesn't like the upgrade. Either uninstall it and replace it with a different AV or post on the Avast forum and see if they can help. Hello there!

I currently have this laptop that a friend gave to me after completely and utterly ruining the built-in screen. I was figuring to configure this to work like a desktop system, put it under the desk with keyboard, mouse and monitor.

After trying to re-install Windows 7 Ultimate on the machine, I ran into an error after windows would copy files and whatnot reporting that windows can not be set up on this computer's hardware.

I read online a few things about possible solutions. The first of which I have tried and failed, which involved a bios setting for the SATA mode to be set to IDE or AHCI, and neither OPTION worked for the install. The second of which reported I needed a hard disk driver, and that is becoming an issue, since nothing on the downloads page for my hard drive is an actual driver that the windows 7 install will ACCEPT. The hard drive being a WD5000BEVT and the site I am looking at being: http://support.wdc.com/product/download.asp?groupid=702&level1=&prodid=&modelno=&lang=en

Windows can see the hard drive perfectly well when selecting a partition to install on, but for some reason, still fails.

Hello. Recently I had some problems ending unresponsive/frozen processes. Normally what I do with unresponsive processes is fire up the task manager and end it. But that does not work all the time. Yesterday, I downloaded a video converter for RIPPING my DVD's, and it freezes and becomes unresponsive often. Task manager doesn't work, I even tried the command "taskkill /f /fi "STATUS eq not responding" in CMD. A message in cmd comes up saying: SUCCESS: The process with PID (something) has been terminated. But the WINDOW is still there, completely unresponsive. The only thing worked was restart. There are also some other applications on my PC with the same problem.
Any help is appreciated!Last time I saw this it was that I was running a program that was poorly programmed in Delphi and intended for 32 bit on a 64-bit system. I did get it to behave by under Windows 7 64-bit to tell it to run XP compatability mode for this program and run as admin.

If you had other programs also acting this way I'd suggest running a memtest86 on it to make sure that all is well, but I think you might be running onto a program that is poorly created and intended for 32-bit when run on 64-bit OS.

You can google this problem in. Try these things.

1) Can you use SYSTEM RESTORE?
2) Run a virus scan.
3) If you turn on your laptop and press f8, you get a screen that has different options, I think that one of the options is called ADVANCED, you highlight the option with the up or down arrow keys on your keyboard since using a mouse is not an option. Once you get into advanced, of the options in the menu is to use start up repair. There is no guarantee that this will work, but it's worth a try.

What does a PERSON do if they need an update for windows 7 o/s now that there is no MICROSOFT update PAGE?Who says there isn't?

My pc is going to crash dump about every 5/6 weeks.

Why is this and what can I do about it please.Is there anything specific that is triggering this such as a specific software app or does this computer never see a restart for 5 or 6 weeks which eventually leads to this?

My wifes prior computer was experiencing a crash dump about once every 3 or 4 weeks and it was determined to be caused by the fact that its always running and eventually it got a borked bit or two that lead to this. Memtest86 showed no problems etc. Added a scheduled task to the system to PERFORM a restart at 3am when she doesnt use the computer and this fixed it. But then she needed more processing power than a AMD Sempron 140 2.7Ghz single-core and so I gave her a HP with a Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 2.4Ghz with 4MB Cache and she was all set for games and multitasking. The Sempron 140 single core was ok at single tasking, but forget playing games + having other STUFF running at same time like iTunes, web browser with 9 tabs, and other stuff.Thanks for your reply Dave.

By a restart, my pc is turned of every night so its restarted every day, if that's what you mean.

I have loads of power and memory in the pc, see my stats.

I usually have one IE and two chrome windows open when I'm on, nothing else.

Maybe it shows a reason there..

Usually they are listed unless it was a power disruption in which the service monitor can not write the reason etc.

I am guessing that this system is powered through a good battery backup and so you have clean power all the time to the computer?I suspect a flakey PSU...
However run the fitness tests on the HDD to elimanate that possibility...

Recently I have gotten 2 BSOD's. Also, while watching videos or just SURFING my computer freezes and everything is unresponsive. I have run Memtest 2 TIMES (2 passes) and no errors have come up, but while running WINDOWS Memory Diagnostics I have found 'hardware problems', for some reason once the computer has found these errors it freezes and does not complete the test. I ended up having to install a stronger power supply to fix similar issues because I had a video card installed that was drawing lots of power and made the system have BSODs with Vista.

Do you have a video card added that is running off the old original power supply? If so, I would swap power supply with a spare good supply if you have one of 400 WATTS or better in rating.

I have since upgraded my wifes system to the Core 2 Duo E6600 2.4Ghz with 4MB Cache when a CPU became available and its going strong still, however I upgraded her to Windows 7 and away from Vista when I bought a 3-license Win 7 family pack 2 years ago.

*If you have a video card added, you can remove this card and try running it on integrated video to see if the crashing stops as well, however the integrated video is not enough for most games if you play games, but if you can find that it is healthy without video card added then you know its the video card or power supply possibly.What you described is perfect! Around last year I've added a video card which has a slightly higher power usage then my power supply (original came with computer). Recently I installed a game.. Hi There. Something very strange that i have never come across before in my world of I.T

LAPTOP: Toshiba Satellite L350 20F
Operating system: Win 7 Home Premium (tried xp , vista same results as explained below).

Problem: Can boot to safe mode and laptop stays on fine no problem.
Soon as i boot normal mode laptop turns off and restarts after HITTING desktop for 2 seconds sometimes 4 seconds.

Things i tried:

Differnet op systems.
Different HDD`s
Disabling and removing cddvd
disable graphics
disbale webcam
new system install and formatt
changing ram
removing battery
cold boot
powering off with battery removed to de static
uninstalled devices to let op system reinstall
Not overheating or safe mode wouldn`t work.


This is something i know is not a virus.

This tells me it might be HARDWARE as safe mode works fine stays on no problem yet as soon as i get to normal boot just crashes.

Any help and solutions on this and you will go down as a legen in my book as i have tried everything i know and can`r find anything of forum's about it.

I stripped down the laptop, took connectors off and re-attached

Also i don`t now think inverter issue as it works fine in safe mode and inverter would affect everything.

I am at a loss as to what it can be to be honest. Any legends out there??

Time for a new one?First thing you want to try is changing the battery on the motherboard.Is it set to the proper Time Zone ? ?

You also didn't mention why you had to re-set it...we thrive on details here.The first time it was 9 years slow. The LAST time SEVERAL hours....and it is set to the correct time zone. I'ii CHANGE the battery and see if that helps.If it was off that much then it is the CMOS battery...Part #CR2032...available anywhere.
Remove all power before replacing it...

I tried using my alt codes to make a different character and the alt codes commands seem to have changed. When I press alt+7 while trying to type an alt code online, it randomly OPENS the avg safesearch page, which I do not have installed (using chrome by the way), and it types the alt+7 character into the search. It never did this before for me, and also alt+4 and alt+6 seem to make pages go back and FORWARD. For the past couple of hours I have been searching everywhere for what is happening, but nothing seems to work.Num Lock
Turned numlock on and I am not able to use alt keys. Turned it off and I can use alt keys. Problem is still occuring with both alts.I went and turned off MOUSE keys and turned on numlock. It is a dell laptopI think i finally got it to stop. I completely uninstalled everything related to avg on my laptop and from my browser and it seems to have stopped. The numlock helped too thanks.Question. So then, does avg safesearch get into the keyboard software? Other people would like to know. I had AWG and finally removed it. But I still have issues with some keystroke combinations. But not the one you mention.

After I used the Revo Uninstaller utility to remove a program from a Vista laptop, the ICON for the Recycle Bin was removed from the desktop. When I manually deleted a few files AFTERWARDS I also noticed they TOOK about a minute to actually DELETE. I was installing a NEW driver through Nvidia manager-installer, and a windows 7 notification showed up, saying that
Windown 7 can reduce some visual effects to MAKE the computer bit faster. I accepted it because I really need this enchancment,

Please help. I've screwed my PC up trying to mine Quark Coins.

I was attempting to FOLLOW instructions on the following youtube line:

The instructions are pretty simple and nothing should have gone wrong in theory. I was ABLE to set up my Quark Wallet and install the mining tool as instructed.

However, after mining for a whole day or two, I had picked up no coins, so I gathered that either I have made a mistake in pasting my Quark Wallet address, or maybe I'm too late in the game and there are no more coins to be had by using a home PC.

My inclination was for the FORMER, as I am visually impaired and use a screen reading SOFTWARE to access my pc and it is highly likely that I could have made a mistake in pasting the address.

Anyway, I was trying to stop my pc from running the mining script but could not do so. And in the process, I ended up changing the mining tool's settings from 'Start when Idle' to Start when not idle'. Or at least that's what I think I have done.

I have since then deleted the whole folder that contained my wallet. But the issue is that every time I try to use my pc, the cpu goes insane. This is especially the case when I am using the internet. I think the mining script is running even though I have deleted all the related folders. And now I can't stop it at all.

Please, please help.

Mind you, my PC runs on Windows 7. Also, I've gone into system config and tried finding a process in startup but could not find anything out of the ordinary.
When looking at task manager, which process is eating up CPU resources? Is this the program you had or a virus etc? If you know the name of the program that is doing this we will be able to better assist you.

OK, so we're all familiar with the "TYPICAL" column headings when we use Win Explorer; i.e. the date the file was created, modified, how big it is, what type of file it is. So, why in the WORLD does M'soft have to dictate that I CAN'T use that on my Audio files? Instead, they INSIST that I use some useless cataloging headings. But here's the part that REALLY sticks in my craw, AND makes my blood BOIL . When I go to the trouble to change the headings to what I want, it doesn't change them universally, only for that one instance. AARRGGHH!!

So, if anyone here KNOWS how to fix that universally, AND PERMANENTLY I would be forever indebted to you.

1. Open any folder containing files of a type you where you want to change the default view, and choose View - Details
2. Right click any column header
3. Select/unselect the headers you want/don't want
4. You can drag the headers left and right to where you want them
5. In the Explorer menu bar choose Tools, Folder Options
6. Select the View tab and, under "Folder views", click the "Apply to Folders" button
7. Click OK

SOMEBODY PLEEZE tell me there is a way to change the column HEADINGS in Win Explorer whenever the folder you're LOOKING in contains audio files the headings don't FOLLOW the normal headings as when you have "normal" data. Instead they're headed by useless headings that really don't offer ANY help at all. What's worse is you have to change EVERY FREAKIN' folder that has such info. It is THE MOST FRUSTRATING when I want to sort files, but before I do I have to change the headings. My ULTIMATE question: Is there ANY way I can make that change ONCE and FORGET it?

I've checked the routine startup folders as well as the REGISTRY and I don't SEE anything specifically telling Windows HELP and Support to run at startup, but it does and I'm not sure how to get rid of it. It's happening for any user that logs in.

Using Windows 7 EnterpriseIt MAY be hidden in the Admin FOLDER...DLoad and install StartupCPL from Mike Lin and see if it's listed there and dis-able it...

Windows Vista32 bit got corrupted on the sector that does the boot up. There is no factory Boot disk. I tried ONE of the "fix All" disk that you can buy, to no avail. After it has fixed the PROBLEM I still get the start up software is corrupt. Please HIT 'R" on the repair disk to repair the missing software

They have a try before you buy download. If you try it and it shows the files it is able to recover, you then have to buy it to recover them. Once you own a license of it, no more COST for future recovery.

I performed the try before you buy on a laptop that had a crashed HDD with the clunk of death and this software got back a good 90% of the data back. There was about 10% of the data where the hard drive was too damaged to recover.

Given that your device is a flash device its probably just corrupt and so you should get 99+% back as long as it has not been overwritten.On that note Recuva is a free option.
That being stated USB drives don't simply "HIDE files " or create new partitions...so you must have done something....
Hopefully your data is still there...i give it LESS than 50/50 though.

So, to summarise, one way is to do this (if I have understood correctly):

The Server

1) The server needs to install RIS (Remote Installation Services) through the Control Panel. The Windows installation files of a clean image/disk are installed onto the server HARD drive. Once the files are copied to the server's hard drive, right-click the directory containing the installation files and choose 'Sharing'. This configures permissions for client access.

The Client

2) In each computer's BIOS, the client machine needs to boot using the network card. This forces the computer to query the network for boot files. The client computer finds the RIS server and RIS instructs the client to install Windows. Since Windows installation files include boot files, the client machine is able to boot and start the installation.

Is that correct?

I'm trying to get some of my OLD bands videos burnt to DVD. The files are in the computer. Trying to format a blank DVD. Help says to INSERT a blank DVD and a dialog box will pop up. No dialog box POPS up. I've tried 5 blanks. Nothing. My os is Windows Vista H.P. Please help! US old guys like to see when we had hair.

The only DVD's that require formatting are DVD-RW discs. If they are DVD-R or DVD+R discs then it does not require formatting prior to use and its a one time burn.

I use a free disc burning software called ImgBurn that works well. It is smart enough to ask if you want the disc burned a specific way for movies as one of its benefits for burning your own personal videos.In Windows 7 you do not need to format a DVD.
What is the format of the old video files?

Hello.

I do not remember what I was doing on my Asus r500v laptop, but a few days ago it restarted and when booted, came up with the message, 'Reboot and Select proper Boot device or Insert Boot Media in selected Boot device and press a key'.

Following various advice on internet forums I have tried various things, such as turning off my laptop, unplugging the charger and taking out the battery to no avail.

When turning on, the f8/f9 buttons to system restore do not work.

I have downloaded the same OS (Windows 7 Pro (64bit)) and taken the necessary steps of reformatting the usb with cmd, and burning the OS onto the USB using the program 'ISO to USB'.

When this USB is plugged in, and the computer boots from this USB, the 'Install Windows' MENU pops up.

If i click the 'Install now' button, I am taken to another two options, 'Upgrade', and 'Custom'.

When Upgrade is selected, I get a Compatibility Report which tells me to start windows normally, (which is not a viable OPTION at this point), before upgrading.

When Custom is selected, and Disk 0 (465.9 gb) is chosen, an ERROR message stating 'Setup was unable to create a new system partition or locate an existing system partition. See the setup log files for more information.' From here, if the option 'Load Driver' is selected, there are no DRIVERS to be selected.

In fear of causing even more problems I am not sure whether i should create a new driver under advanced options.

Going back to the first screen, there is an option stating 'Repair your computer'. There is no recovery tool that shows, so I select 'Restore your computer using a system image that you created earlier'. However, I have no previous system images, and i am taken to 'System Recovery Options.

System Restore has an error message which says i must specify which windows installation to restore, and to select an operating system.
Windows Memory Diagnostic, similarly does not work.
I do not know what to do with command prompt.

If Startup Repair is selected, the computer restarts and i am led to a 'windows boot manager'
This states that windows failed to start. to fix the problem I am told to
1. Insert your windows installation disc and RESTART your computer
2. Choose language settings, and click next
3. Click repair your computer.

Which really just brings me to a full circle.

I am also given this information.

If i press Enter to continue this returns to this screen, and if ESC to exit is pressed, i am also returned to this screen.

I have Windows 64 bit. When I run Malwarebytes I get 64 PUP ITEMS listed. If I run the program again I get the same results. It says that all the listed items have been removed but they show up the next time I run Malwarebytes. I saved the log but I don't KNOW how to paste it into this post. Have I given enough information to get any HELP? Thanks BobDo a cut and paste. Do you know how? When you open a log file it opens in Notepad. All you do is click Edit, Select all, then Copy. And Right click where you want to put it. Example: I want to paste it here, so I just right click and volia! Give it a shot.

OK I will tell you how dumb I am. I was not rebooting after I ran the Malwarebytes program and as a RESULT none of the items were being deleted. When I ran it again and rebooted everything is fine. Has anybody heard of a just released Windows Critical Update for windows 7 causing a computer to go into a loop after installing?
I do backups every night. So Thursday night I went to bed leaving the computer running.
In the middle of the night I got up to discover the computer was “configuring windows” I sat and watched it for a bit.
It would finish “configuring windows” instead of going to the logon window screen it would restart and go back to the “configuring windows”. I shut the computer down.
The next day I did a “system restore” the only restore point was from just before a BUNCH of Windows Critical Updates
Restored everything was fine.
That evening before going to bed I decided to install the Critical Updates Did that the result was the computer again went into a loop “configuring windows”
Did another system restore to again just before the updates from the night before.
So the problem is in windows recent updates.
Anybody hear of this problem or suggestion who I should contact

You could contact HP if its still under warranty to see if they have a fix for this model. A bunch of years ago there was a MS Update that had issues with AMD CPU's and worked fine with INTEL CPUs. A fix was eventually released for this.

BUT... I am running an older AMD Athlon 64 x2 4450B overclocked to 2.53Ghz with Windows 7 64-bit with 4GB RAM, and it went through patch tuesday with no issues. However this is a custom build and not a off the shelf computer with bundleware and has a clean "aka corporate type " install of the OS and software.

So it could be HP bundle software or driver related.

While HP does make good business class systems, I have found issues in the past with their home computer class systems with flaws in the registry etc that causes PROBLEMS later. One that was a major pain was with a small HP Pavilion with a Celeron 700Mhz CPU and Windows Me that I bought from Wal-mart around 1999 or 2000 and I went to add a CD-RW drive to it in place of the CD-ROM and that went fine, BUT when I went to install Roxio Easy CD Creator 5.0 to it, it came up telling me that I needed to first uninstall an earlier version of Roxio in which it TOLD me that version 4.0 was installed. Looking in the Add / Remove Programs, no Roxio Easy CD Creator 4.0 was found. Frustrated at this I restored the system back to factory USING the system recovery CD and then attempted again to install Roxio Easy CD Creator 5.0 and once again met with the same problem that it said 4.0 was installed and needed to be removed first.

Call to HP about this, they said they dont know the cause and suggested that I try a different software package for burning CD-R's. I ended up digging in the registry manually trying to find Roxio 4.0 and found some keys for it. I then went to Karensware website where she had a Registry Pruner tool for free download and that displayed everything linked for programs in the registry. I was able to target Roxio Easy CD Creator 4.0 and remove it and then reboot and install Roxio Easy CD Creator 5.0 with no problems and most importantly finally burn mixed music CD-R's to play in my vehicle. I then called HP back up and told them that the problem I had appeared to be caused by someone lazy taking an image for a higher end home computer and performing a dirty uninstall or removal of Roxio 4.0 and that this problem affects all computers of this specific model because its on the system recovery CD that came with the system. They said we are glad you fixed the problem, but I can assure you that we do not cut corners on images for systems we sell and there is no way that orphan registry entries can be applied by one of our system recovery CD's. My jaw dropped at how stupid this statement was when the evidence was hard evidence that they ( someone at HP ) cut corners and this will not affect this model that runs forever with just a CD-ROM, but will affect people who upgrade to a CD-RW later. I was hoping that HP would add this useful information to a knowledgebase so that if anyone else had this issue they would know to use Karens Registry Pruner to remove the orphan entries for Roxio 4.0 to be able to install Roxio 5.0 or newer. Or release an ISO for a new System Recovery CD that is clean of this orphan registry entry. OR a registry patch tool for these systems that removes this entry cleanly which would be the cheapest way out for them. But they had no interest in resolving this flaw in this build which likely affected many other similar models of various differences in specs and all Windows Me for the Home Computer model Pavilion product lines that were manufactured without CD Burners Sorry but to keep it short I left out the part where I called HP...They walked me thru some diagnostics then had me do a system restore...had me restart the machine a second time after the restore..and solved the symptom not the cause.....

Earlier this morning, I was using my computer for what I usually use it for. Playing games, watching videos, browsing websites like Reddit, etc.

I shut it down (through the Start menu) and take a nap. I wake up and when I try to start the computer back up, it brings up a window that asks me to start Windows Startup Repair, or to start windows NORMALLY. Every time I click Start up repair, it runs a diagnostic and then tells me that Startup Repair cannot repair this computer automatically.

I click view advanced options for windows recovery and repair and tried everything; even formatting my desktop and restoring it to factory settings through the Dell DataSafe restory and Emergency Backup.

It ran the backup, uninterrupted and restarted. That did nothing and now I'm back to square one.


Is there ANYTHING at all I can do?

Ive got a weird problem with my laptop. Whenever i try to use any program i have this weird stopping in the program. It is similar to when you would play a game and not have the min req. for the game.

This problem started before i had it repaird and am wondering if the heat may have messed with my prosseser, cpu or gpu. hey everyone, my problem is basically that i went to give ubuntu a TRY and somehow when i went to install it it decided to install on the windows 7 partition, i saw that it wasnt right so i turned off the laptop, i go to boot it up again and the only screen is a "/" flashing in the top left corner over and over. nothing else happens. i have tried to get my windows disc to reinstall windows but it says it cant because the partition type is now an "unknown file system" so i dont know what to do. is there any way of changing the file system without wiping all my data? ubuntu seems to have done so. thanks for reading If you had installed Win7 it would have wiped your files anyways...
What you can try is a Repair Install which retains everything if done PROPERLY...
Boot to the Win7...select advanced boot MENU...then select repair install.

However this may not work as Linux installs its own bootloader but it's WORTH a try...
I'll do some looking on nuking the Grub loader without messin up Windows...but try this in the meantime.
BTW when WANTING a dual-boot of Win and any Linux Distro seperate HDD's is THE way to go...

Is it possible to open a excel file every week using a batch script which should run AUTOMATICALLY after user logging into a system Kind of confused as to what you want to have happen.

A scheduled task in windows can launch an excel file to load at a specific time etc.

A batch or excel file added to the startup folder can cause an event to trigger on logon.

More INFORMATION on what you need to have happen will produce a better solution. Has the OP already looked at this:

I have a HP desktop on windows XP (not wireless) connected to Printer HP2600 works fine printing.

I also Have a Dell vostro Vista 1700 wireless connected thru hub/hp to printer

It was working ok and stopped unsure about sharing options/namesNot sure.
I think the HP printer has to be eitherr USB or wireless, but not both.
Run the install CD again and either repair of replace the installation. Do it on both machines.

I currently have a Sony Laptop (VGN-NS10E) and when it turn it on, it goes as far as the start up options where I can select normal, safe mode or safe mode with command prompt. No matter which option I select, I get the windows logo with the waiting bar (as normal) then after around a minute, it then just stops and I am displayed with a black screen with a curser! I get nothing further. In the past, I have had to perform computer restore using the command promt option due to viruses, however even using command prompt it doesn't fully load to the bit where I can type.

Any ideas on how I can fix this?

I have tried researching, and the mention of a restore disk is said, however stupidly I have not created one of these!

I would rather not WIPE the whole thing if I can HELP it, as I have documents ETC on my computer which are not yet backed up onto my USB stick,

THANK you The FACT that you have had viruses and now cannot boot would lead me to recommend you do what you said you don't want to do. Format, delete the existing partition(s) and start from scratch.

I uninstalled it to DOWNLOAD VLC Media Player. VLC wouldn't play my DVD, so I uninstalled it, and tried to reinstall WMP. When I do, it tells me that a recent version is already installed. I noticed that the WMP folder is still in my PROGRAM files. It won't delete. Any HELP would be appreciated. All I want to do is reinstall WMP.There is a WMP repair tool at the MS site...
I don't believe a re-install is neccessaryyou can use this procedure to uninstall the core of Windows Media Player.

Click Start, click Run, type %windir%\$ntUninstallwmp11$\spuninst\spuninst.exe, and then click OK.
Click Next, and then click Finish.

Or

go to Computer RIGHT click on C: /properties. Select Disk Cleanup and then click More Options. Select Windows COMPONENTS and find Media Player in the list. Remove the check from the checkbox and than click OK.
To re install do the steps again, this time check the Media Player box and it will be re installed. it will probably request the Windows CD to complete.Thanks for the reply. I fixed the issue.

I've honestly never seen the first bsod before. The second one is related to your ati driver. Did you recently update the driver for your video card?I did update the driver last night to the latest one, I just don't remember if it was before or after that BSOD. Might have been after. Newer drivers are not always better drivers...As patio suggests, you should only update drivers if there is a specific need or reason to do so. If so do the same as above...I do not have SoundMax drivers, just Realtek HD Audio. Should I still do the same?That is a very rare error and is usually caused by a bad or conflicting driver. If you updated any other drivers recently, roll them back as well. Alternatively, you can use system restore to go back to a date before you updated the drivers.So on a whim, I decided to pull out one of my RAM sticks. No crashes/BSODs. I haven't gotten intense with usage yet, but I was able to play a couple games for about a half hour each without problems. I'll post back if anything happens. Thanks for the help, guys!

I have Acer Aspire E2200 am unable to access net. Cable tech said MACHINE was KAPUT so being hard head I bought cheap Trendnet Pci adapter.
now it acesses the net but only in Safe Mode when in normal operation the diag disc
says there is no network card on machine!!!

Dave B If it WORKS in safemode and not normal mode it sounds to me like the proper DRIVERS were not installed...

Not sure why you would put much credence in a cable installer's opinion though...

Morning I am having a problem with pages building up .ILL 'explain I have been going through my documents folder, and I have been deleting things I don't' want, I just right click and then delete. I did this for a lot of pages ,when I CAME to sign off I red CROSS it (top right).
there must have been 20/25 pages. Then I tried TASK manager and it was the same. I noticed my computer was RUNNING slow.
this has never happened before ,have I got a problem.

Alright guys I need your expertise with my computer, so as it stands I cannot get past my computers startup repair. I have an acer aspire 5551-2298 laptop with windows 7. Now startup repair isn't new to me I have been battling with it for a while but unfortunately using my quick methods (LAST KNOWN GOOD configuration, system restore, safe mode) all aren't WORKING. I have my acer recovery DISCS but I would rather not loose everything on my computer( if it comes down too it I don't mind). If any of you have any idea what to do please just help me out

I've already searched for tutorials but no ONE works.

I've tried by cmd > sfc/scannow, it scanned and found no error. I've found ANOTHER tutorial but it uses regedit, which I'm actually not able to access (it just flashes on screen and stops running, same is happening with CCleaner and probably other apps).

I'm not able to access Control PANEL and other Windows Explorer related directories, such as screen and resolution options in desktop. Further, the domestic network (created by the W7) that connects my two PCs via wifi is not working anymore, and the other PC has the same issues and appcrash. Down goes the report of the appcrash (sorry for it is in portuguese, but I not able to change the SYSTEM's language, haha).

I was trying to clean up my laptop and I must have DELETED something. now everytime I try to download anything at all like a new program, open an ATTACHMENT in an email, updates for windows, anything at all, after it starts to download, it stops and says "could not be downloaded". every single time I try to download anything. I have searched everywhere and all I can find is people saying "change your security settings" and stuff like that. I know thats not the problem because I have checked all that. I have TRIED to do a system restore, and it must not be able to go back to a date far enough back because it does nothing at all. I bought my laptop at best buy in like 2008 or so and it didnt COME with a windows disk so I cannot even format the dam thing or whatever thats called.
PLEASE if anyone can help me, I would really really apriciate that.

In the PAST I have USED a page that POPS up when I click on print. This page lets you change margins and how many PAGES to print and other things. Now I can not find it. I have pages in my "documents" which I want to print. I hope I have made it clear what I want. I have Windows 7 and IE 11. I THOUGHT I had IE 9. Some way it got changed to IE 11. Any help is appreciated. Bob I found what I was looking for. There is a difference between IE 9 and IE 11. I don't know how I got changed but I wish I had IE 9 back.
