Solve : Bluee screen !!? |
Answer» Hi, first of all please excuse my bad english and weak description :/ @Allan, I did that, it gives me instant blue screen..You need to be more specific. You did what exactly? And when do you get the blue screen?I downloaded the correct driver and after the download finished i got a blue screen in a matter of seconds.. When I download with a program like 3dp chip it just say that "This program might not have installed correctly"So you downloaded it but didn't install it?Of course I installed it, after the install I got the issueQuote from: Lexandra on March 25, 2014, 01:30:16 PM I downloaded the correct driver and after the download finished i got a blue screen in a matter of seconds.. I asked because there's nothing in this post that says you installed it. But okay, you did. Did you first uninstall the old driver? and what do you mean you downloaded it with 3dp chip? Do you mean you USED a 3rd party to find the driver? Download the driver? Install the driver? I asked you to go to the website of your video card manufacturer and download and install the driver. Please do it yourself - do not use 3rd party software. Also, since you've been downloading torrents please run full system scans with BOTH your installed anti virus app AND with MalwareBytes. Last, Download BlueScreenView: http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/blue_screen_view.html unzip downloaded file and double click on BlueScreenView.exe to run the program. when scanning is done, go to EDIT - Select All Go to FILE - SAVE Selected Items, and save the report as BSOD.txt Open BSOD.txt in Notepad, copy all of the content, and paste it into your next reply |

Solve : Moving from computer running Vista to one running XP? |
Answer» My computer is running Vista Ultimate and I have a ten year old HP Pavalion running XP. What if I were to reformat the hard drive on the HP...will it allow me to install Vista on it useing my disc that came with the Vista machine? Just a thought. Unfortunately not. If a copy of windows comes with a PC in the way of a sticker on the PC itself giving your product key - This is called an "OEM" copy which is tied to the machine (or more specifically its motherboard) that it came with. It therefore cannot be transferred to a different system. Not sure about you guys but to me his goals are now as clear as mud... Let's wait for clarification i say...Thanks for the information. Don't let my befuddlement bewilder ya all. I try to explain... My 'old' computer, the HP Pavilion 1973 failed it's hard drive. I replaced the drive and installed the software I received with it initally. I think it had been collecting dust for five plus years. It booted up OK with a generous helping of HP stuff I don't especially want. My origional intent was to make it a game machine cause my wife likes to play games that now reside on her LAPTOP and my other home brew machine. (I know that likely aint too good a project cause the HP is pretty slow) However I noticed that IE can't be found on the HP so I got the bright idea (I thought) to use my flash drive to carry CCleaner downstairs(from my home brew machine) so I might possibly clean up the HP a bit...Howsomever I was baffled in this manuever by it's stubberon refusal to cooperate...Meanwhile I tried downloading IE 8 on the HP off the net. (Is this a new problem?) I was foiled in this by the file (IE) balking when I tried installing it...it returned the message: "SHRegetvalueW" COULD not be found...So ya see all my questions sorta hang together. Tending to converge into one lump...meaning I just can't get the old HP to do much of anything. I know...most anyone else would buy another puter...but my daily driver is a 52 Chevy. Thanks much for bearing with me. CopasPS: What part of the computer limits their compatability? In other words: Would a new bios allow me to clone the HP to the Vista? More Thanks, CopasQuote from: copas on April 05, 2014, 09:42:35 PM PS:Mostly the BIOS and the chip set. And after awhile the OEM starts to use another chip set. And without the OEM product key, you can not license that old machine to run Vista. But you can continue to use XP. Not to change the topic, but older computers are doomed to stay on Windows XP unless there are new drivers fro the anew OS. So the prospect to keeping an ten year old machine is not so good. Unless you continue to keep XP on it. It is not cost-effective in time and money to update a very old machine to Windows 7. But popular PCs less that 7 years old can often be upgraded to Windows 7. But not worth the money and effort unless the machine is very, very good. If you are an experienced tech and have sorceress to locate lots of old PCs, you might want to read this: Quote Professionally Refurbished Computers ...http://www.microsoft.com/refurbishedpcs/ So there is a legal way to get Windows 7 on some older computers. Typically the whole package foes for about twice the price of the windows 7 software. Most re worked Desktops are Dell. Bu there are HP desktops too. http://www.hp.com/sbso/buspurchase_refurbished_whybuy.html Just saying, your old machine may not be worth the effort.I surely appreciate all the good advice. I'm just an ignorant ignoramus I guess, but: That old HP has such a sturdy case. Sorta like a tank. I just looked at a new Dell...pretty much plastic; like the new cars...I guess I'm showing my age, but: Maybe a new main board??? I'd spend a thousand dollars to prevent Bill Gates orgazination from lifting a hundred...Oh well the're a lot of fun and you young guys make 'em EVEN better.... Thanks to everyone for their wise counsel! Keep up the good work and, Thanks again! Ivan Copas If you want to resuscitate that HP it'll take a clean install of the OS that was originally installed on it... The Win versions have to match...no need to install all the HP bloatware it shipped with it's not neccessary...but the proper Drivers are. Thay are all available at the HP site ...search by the Model # and the Windows version... BEST of Luck.A thought occurred to me: My "main" computer is home assembled. I mean by that; I ordered bits and sub assemblies from New Egg and patched them together. (With a lot of help from my Grandson) Question: Is this home brew computer immune from all the EULA's that seem (If I understand the comments made) to have hobbled My HP? Lots more thanks to all, CopasQuote from: Allan on April 05, 2014, 02:18:18 PM The Microsoft EULA permits the OS to be installed on one system. |

Solve : Windows background only after a very large update on Windows 7 Home Prem OA? |
Answer» I know all the Ctrl. Alt. Delete stuff and have tried all the start up options eg. safe mode, last good con etc but windows will not run. All that I can get is a light blue, or a standard windows background or a light blue screen with the little box tools loading. Not a thing more only access to the black F10 menu and the F11 but tried all that. Warning If your computer has a major hardware failure, that issue must be resolved first. Quote from: Badger Bill on April 07, 2014, 11:25:45 AM Thanks for the link to the recovery down load. The big problem is the fact that the Windows will not past the 'Starting Windows ' screen the windows icon with the 4 colours comes together on the screen and then just hangs. I can get it to the point when it says 'windows files now loading' and then only a window background screen with clouds and a pointer arrow that I can move. There is nothing to click on so how can I load any discs or use any tools. The Startup Repair is initialised well before Windows loads...read thru the instructions again. |

Solve : Buying Win 7 premium? |
Answer» Quote Quote from: Geek-9pm on Today at 10:43:19 AMCorrect. The implication is if one does not work, try the other. But the DVD does not always work. In which case you must use the USB option. When using the USB option, the user should put the product key into the USB drive as a text file. This is documented elsewhere. The point I want to make is that installing from the DVD is not possible in always. That statement "install from the DVD" many users would take to mean only obvious exceptions would happen. Not so. When it fails it will not say "Oh, sorry, install failed. But you might try installing from a USB after finding the documentation somewhere." NO, it never ever says that. The user might turn around seven times and jump up and down. And that does not work either. The issue is documented on the MSN forums. How would the user know he has to go to a social forum to find out? The DVD can never tell you about future issues that were unknown at the time the DVD was made. Do I need to prove that? Perhaps a future version of Windows to tell you ahead of time that MS is going to change SOMETHINGS the will interfere with your ease-of-install experience. But I don't think so. Quote from: Geek-9pm on April 09, 2014, 01:36:53 PM The implication is if one does not work, try the other I don't see any such implication; I see a simple "here are two alternatives - choose the one you find most convenient". I don't get the whole implication of the assumption that a DVD install is destined to fail... I'm closer now to slammin this shut than i was yesterday so follow up points better make some sense.Quote from: Salmon Trout on April 09, 2014, 01:42:13 PM I don't see any such implication; I see a simple "here are two alternatives - choose the one you find most convenient".That is what most would think. The quote c same from Microsoft. The preferred way now to install Windows is to do a download, read the documentation, put it on a USB and do it from there. New motherboards have features the hate DVD does not handle as well as you would expect. Which was the point of my rant. Using a USB resolves unforeseen problem. You just add a new file into the USB that corrects the problem. The original post was about if he could get a retail DVD that could be used to install in the future on a new motherboard. The correct answer is either NO or a qualified YES. In the future. you will have to put stuff on a USB stick to help the instal, unless the motherboard just happens be fully compatibly with the old DVD windows. I never meant to imply the DVD will always fail. Nor did I mean it will fail often. Rather, when it does fail you may not know why. The specific case I think about is like this: You buy a desktop PC with Windows home preloaded. You like it, but you what to the professional version. Instead of doing a download from the MS store, you go buy a new retail Windows professional DVD. Install fails. Only error message is "Invalid product key." It was documented on the MSN forums. The moderator on MSN tells you to do it from a USB. You do. It WORKS. Please don't tell people it is always easy to install from the retail DVD. Quote from: Geek-9pm on April 09, 2014, 02:44:55 PM That is what most would think. It is the only sane interpretation. Quote The preferred way now to install Windows is to do a download, read the documentation, put it on a USB and do it from there. No, it is merely one alternative. If there is any preference, it is because a USB Flash drive is much faster than a DVD. Quote New motherboards have features the hate DVD does not handle as well as you would expect. This is complete and absolute nonsense. There are no features of motherboards that a DVD does not handle, because the software is exactly the same. You just made that up- otherwise you would be able to provide specific examples instead of vague indications. Quote Which was the point of my rant. Using a USB resolves unforeseen problem. You just add a new file into the USB that corrects the problem.USB avoids the problems of the DVD not supporting features of a motherboard? What features? anything specific? No, I would imagine not. Quote The original post was about if he could get a retail DVD that could be used to install in the future on a new motherboard. The correct answer is either NO or a qualified YES.The correct answer is Yes. Quote In the future. you will have to put stuff on a USB stick to help the instal, unless the motherboard just happens be fully compatibly with the old DVD windows.No. This has ABSOLUTELY no basis in reality. If you want ANYBODY in this thread to give your theory any creedence, you'll need to actually provide real information. For example- what motherboard features are supported by a USB installation but not a DVD installation? Name a single such feature. Quote The specific case I think about is like this:Link to the thread? That sounds EXACTLY like what would happen if you tried to use anytime upgrade to insert a Retail Windows Pro Key to upgrade a OEM Home Premium. Quote Please don't tell people it is always easy to install from the retail DVD.Please back up your nonsense with real, observable facts that you can actually link to. Not vague, handwavey observations based on Forum posts who's specious nature you believe is waived by a TAG on their profile.Quote from: BC_Programmer on April 09, 2014, 03:10:15 PM This is complete and absolute nonsense. There are no features of motherboards that a DVD does not handle, because the software is exactly the same. Perhaps a DVD brings in extra factors - burning at too high a speed, POOR quality or counterfeit DVD blanks, CARELESS handling, etc. Quote Please back up your nonsense with real, observable facts that you can actually link to. Not vague, handwavey observations based on Forum posts who's specious nature you believe is waived by a tag on their profile. He is the moderator of a forum on a Microsoft Social forum. sighI've seen enough. Solve : Can not operate windows after operating system not found? |

Answer» My pc turns on and after windows seven logo when i should enter my user account, it does not appear one for me to log in, in fact it does not appear a single buttom where i could PRESS it. I know my monitor is not frozen because i can still move my mouse but have nothing to click on it. This problem appears in every situation after i had yesterday a problem where my pc displayed operating system not found. If tried a lot of things but nothing ever works...
Run hard drive diagnostics: tacktech.com Make sure, you select tool, which is appropriate for the brand of your hard drive. Depending on the program, it'll create BOOTABLE floppy, or bootable CD. If downloaded file is of .iso type, use ImgBurn: imgburn to burn .iso file to a CD (select "Write image file to disc" option), and make the CD bootable. For Toshiba hard drives, see here: Note : If you do not know how to set your computer to boot from CD follow the steps here By the way my computer does not recognize my C: because i tried to clean it and/or resolve problems with vaio assist care and it said it could not locate C: because it was too small or it could not be found. Can this be also resolved with what you said or you think it may result from a completely different problem that my computer may have?If Viao clean didnt run completely im afraid Windows is wonked... You could maybe rescue things with a repair install...but i think your looking at re-installing... See Here... |

Solve : Get Off My Lawn, Dell Backup and Recovery Manager!? |
Answer» Soluto has been AWESOME (from what I can tell) - it shaved a lot of time off the boot. And I put in a solid state drive (oh, if the corporate overlords found out about that!), which also helped.
I've attached the .ini and the .bat files. (I've renamed the .ini to .txt for attachment purposes) I'm wondering if it's the .bat file that's causing the "Dell Backup and Recovery Manager" (DBRM) and "Dell Smart Settings" to run on startup... And if I just commented out those lines, would that help? [RECOVERING DISK space, attachment deleted by admin]Oh, what the heck. *BUMP*No need to bump this thread. The thread is old and dry. The issue is resolved.Ignore the last Post... What happens when you disable those Dell applets in StartupCPL ? ? msconfig is NOT the proper tool for this which is why i recommended what i did. Nothing happens. In the screen shot, you can see that they're disabled in that Startup CPL program you recommended, but they "don't exist" on the hard drive. And they still load when I boot. Very frustrating!Do a search for *.bat in Explorer... This will list all .bat files on the PC.The "DCSUStart.bat" loads a different Dell "benefit" that I'd never seen before. Nothing else looks out of the ordinary (to me). |

Solve : W7 not genuine?? |
Answer» Coming up on almost 3 years since I bought this eMachine with windows 7. Then tonight, on the desktop, lower right corner, I get these words.... Windows 7 Build 7601 This COPY of windows is not genuine I've installed nothing in the last couple of days, and then that was an update to Windows Defender. Anyone have a clue as to what goes here? windows 7 home premium 64-bit AMD Athlon II X2 220 dual-core processor NVIDIA GeForce 6150SE 3GB DDR3 Memory 1TB Hard Drive blah blah blahJust ignore it. The Windows genuine test is not totally accurate. Here are links that are an indirect admission that the test is not accdurate. Unable to install update The article blames your computer hardware. Quote "This version of the Windows Genuine Advantage validation tool is no longer supported. Please download the newest version and ensure your SYSTEM clock is accurate."Why would the cloak have ANYTHING to do with authenticity? It got to be so bad, there are blogs devoted to it. When a 'False Positive' isn't a false positive You may wish to contact Microsoft support. From above link: Quote ... to ensure everyone that we investigate all credible reports we receive of false positives (though sometimes it's hard to chase down the details we need to try to repro reported failures). I hear in the halls sometimes of reported failures taking place but when the dev and test teams reproduce the steps reported the result is, far more often than not, that the software performed as DESIGNED and the failure was due to the software in fact being counterfeit and the customer simply not wanting to believe it.Does that help any? IMHO the worst that can happen is your will not get updates.Yo! Thank you. I did a restart and it hasn't reappeared yet. Earlier in the day I ran Malwarebytespro, and after the restart, CCleaner. Running Malicious software removal tool at the moment. Norton's is my anti-virus. Kinda hoping something bad happens to the machine so I'll have an excuse to get a new one. Solve : File corruption mistery? |
Answer» I consider myself an experienced user. I've worked as computer repairman and I have experience administering Windows and Linux OSs, I also have MCSA certificate. Still, there are some issues I simply don't understand. Your first post says you ran chkdsk /f. Did you run it with the /f switch or the /r switch? I ran chkdsk /r. I've made an error in my first post. I followed your suggestion and scanned the HDD with bootable Drive Fitness Test from Hitachi (ran the Advanced test), drive is OK. Did the full system scan with Avast and MBAM, no infections. I guess this will remain a mystery.Yeah, if the hd is good and there's no malware I'm at a bit of a loss, sorry. Maybe someone else will have a thought.I don't have the answer. Do not expect to fin d a definitive answer. Quote ... worst type of errors are those that go unnoticed, and are not even detected by the disk firmware or the host operating system. This is known as silent corruption.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Data_corruption#Silent_data_corruption Yeah, wikipedia articles can be hard to understand. But the point made is valid. We store more data now that ever, but the error rates and not gone done enough. To put it is simple words ; If you have a hard error rate of one in a billion, you will hardly ever see the error when you have a mullion bits of data. But when you have hundreds of millions of bits, it begins to happen. The idea also applies to other hardware components. And the OS can not recover the error if it is not found.I SUSPECT EFS...and/or Total commander...that is if the HDD checked out OK. It could also be caused by power fluctuations... |

Solve : Downgraded older laptop to compatible OS, still getting bluescreens? |
Answer» Hey. About a month ago, I came to the chatrooms to report that I've been getting bluescreens every while on my Acer Aspire 7741G that's been upgraded to windows 8, I was then told to install BlueScreenViewer so I can generate a log of all recorded bluescreens, and gave them it, consisting of ~6 recorded bsods. I was advised that the problem was there was errors all over the place due to INCOMPATIBILITY with windows 8. (Basically, acer's driver website didn't have "windows 8 drivers" for my laptop model, so I had to download drivers from hardware-manufacturers websites, and stuck with the "windows 8 included" video card driver because the "windows 8 ati-hd5470 beta drivers" failed) Out of nowhere being nothing was running it was just system idle at desktop or was a program running or a bunch of stuff running? If anything was running other than the OS, please share details. At the time, I think I only had a few web browser tabs open in the background, and at the time I was actually interacting with a HTML5 web app. I didn't pay too much attention to what else I had open if anything else was.Update: I ran a CHKDSK on my HDD, and it reports that it has made the following corrections: Cleaning up 297 unused index entries from index $SII of file 0x9. Cleaning up 297 unused index entries from index $SDH of file 0x9. Cleaning up 297 unused security descriptors. CHKDSK discovered free space marked as allocated in the master file table (MFT) bitmap. CHKDSK discovered free space marked as allocated in the volume bitmap. Could of this been the source of the problem? Should I then wait to see if I get another random bluescreen in a few days/weeks?Since you re-installed the OS the new BSOD has nothing to do with the old ones... Chkdsk was a good move...let's wait and see what happens.Update: Ah, nope. Today (the day after I made this topic, and experienced the first BSOD), the machine froze in the middle of my youtube video watching spree (audio still played while its frozen), this was in the afternoon. I took that as a fluke and simply hard-shutdown restarted the machine Then in the evening (a few minutes before making this post), I got another BSOD. This time, it was while I was in the middle of SAVING a FL Studio MIDI project (they take 2 minutes to save, and that's normal), and I was chatting on a website in the meantime. Again, the HTML report of the blue screen has been attached. [recovering disk space, attachment deleted by admin]Update: I gave it 2 weeks.. And I'm still getting occasional problems. Here's the stability problems I've had within these two weeks: -- My browser or flash player suddenly crashed out of nowhere, and when I restored it, streaming video (eg youtube) starts showing a green screen, and I needed to reboot to fix the "green screen". This happened once in this time period This is actually a problem I remember having several times with this laptop on older windows 7 installations and my previous windows 8 installation. However for this to happen I would have very high RAM usage from having lots of tabs open (which I sometimes do) that may include things like youtube and html5, and this crash doesn't happen every time. -- out of random, my screen would become black for 10 seconds then get "dwm.exe has stopped working". This has happened twice in this time period. These error details are posted below. First incidence, I had intense CPU usage by 4 cpu-intense html5 website tabs I was interacting with at once. Second incidence, I cannot remember what I was doing. Is there a chance that this is a GPU-hardware problem requiring me to take my laptop in to a local pc-support place? I'm also hoping to get this resolved soon because I'm thinking of buying an 480-512gb ssd (Either Crucial MX100 or M500) for my laptop soon (and will be moved to my new laptop I will get in 1-2 months) and yes I will be re-installing windows again but I don't want this unreliability to persist when I got the SSD. (and yes, the re-installation won't take as long as I got all my key program installers and drivers right on my USB hard drive)Replacing the SYSTEMS HDD with a SSD might actually resolve the issue. I bought the Crucial M500 240GB SSD for $125 and its a great drive.Quote from: DaveLembke on June 13, 2014, 08:22:51 PM Replacing the systems HDD with a SSD might actually resolve the issue. I bought the Crucial M500 240GB SSD for $125 and its a great drive. Update: So I got a SSD a week ago (512gb crucial mx100). On June 26th I fresh installed windows 7 pro, ran windows update, installed all the drivers, installed all the programs and updated them, restored my documents and settings. Then it's been working fine, and I really appreciate the faster data speeds from this ssd upgrade. (Even though I noticed that ever since I've downgraded to windows 7, the task manager is showing that it has a higher priority using cpu threads 1 and 3 instead of all 4 threads more evenly. But I'm assuming this could be normal windows 7 behavior with my cpu, and that windows 8 better manages multi-threading.) Well last night (~1 week later), I decided to run a Malwarebytes scan on both my os-drive and external drive and leave it overnight, and when I came back I noticed that it has restarted due to a bluescreen, dunno if this is connected to the same issue or not: [recovering disk space, attachment deleted by admin]The invisible type was a nice touch... Solve : On start-up, AMIBIOS comes up without prompt? |
Answer» I'm using Windows 7 Pro 64 BIT. My PC is about 1-1/2 years old. I used to always be PROMPTED to press F2 to enter AMIBIOS. Now in the past few WEEKS the program automatically COME up on just about every 'start-up', forcing me to hit F1, then exit, then 'don't save and exit', then I either press F1 to enter screen for 'boot normal'. I know this doesn't seem like a big problem, but I'd like to start-up and just have the choice to go to BIOS or not. Any ideas? I've exausted my searching, and it's brought me here. (which might be a good thing). You will please excuse me as I have zero experience with 'forums' like this. I always feel like an outsider and get lost on the lingo. I live in a French country, and most of my PC is in that LANGUAGE, (something I'd like to change for my benefit). |

Solve : How do I open different formats?? |
Answer» My pictures and documents are in many different formats that I cannot open. Is there a list telling me how to open these....such as DOCX.... sig....htm.... etc.? THANKS for your help! You should be able to right-click on the picture and select "Open with" and select Picture viewer. You can Google the different extensions to find out what programs create/read those types of files. There isn't ONE solution to be able to open them all. It would be best if you asked about each of the ones you are having problems with. Docx files can be opened with MS Word or Wordpad or OpenOffice or LibreOffice to name a few. Htm files should open in your browser. When I right click and try to open with Photo Viewer it says that doesn't support this file format or I need to update Photo Viewer. I remember finding a list of many formats with the correct format to open them .... but can't find that now. |

Solve : best cleaner? |
Answer» What is the best computer cleaner, I have used cccleaner in the past, but wondered if there is anything better. Thanks, EdnaThe general viewpoint of the experts on this forum is negative with regard to cleaners. The statement that registry cleaners do not improve computer performance is incorrect. They don't do it by removing "registry bloat", because spurious registry entries will seldom or never exceed 1% of the total registry size anyway; they do it by removing entries which are "toxic" or dysfunctional. That above post was really in favor of some cleaners. I don;t see how a reference to a SHARED printer on a powered-down host is "toxic" or might need removing. dinkie, don't bother with so-called "cleaners". Exactly what is it that you are trying to do? If you tell us what problem(s) you are having we may be ABLE to help.Quote from: Salmon Trout on April 17, 2015, 02:09:40 PM I don;t see how a reference to a shared printer on a powered-down host is "toxic" or might need removing. dinkie, don't bother with so-called "cleaners". You should know better by now...LET sleeping dogs lie...The short story is that "Cleanup" and "tune-up" software doesn't do anything particularly useful that would improve performance beyond what you can do with windows built-in software such as Disk Cleanup. Even if there is software that performs that function and is by a REPUTABLE company, I've yet to see it. |

Solve : Computer crashing and auto restarting please help!? |
Answer» I transported by pc to my new home and I recently added a second monitor to my pc. This is when all these problems started happening for me. At first i was getting a cpu fan speed is to low, i went to my bios and found out it automatically switched it self to eco mode, so i set it back to performance mode, so my fan would spin faster. Then everything was ok but then a month later my computer would automatically restart. EVENT logs said something about video memory not being enough? which is odd because i have a 1.2gb memory gpu and i also play games on ultra settings no problem. So i turned off windows aero and i was experiencing random restarts less but still was getting them. I read somewhere that reducing the memory on page file might help and turning off the auto restart option when errors occur, so now i computer just freezes and makes a continuous buzzing sound until i physically restart. I unplugged the extra monitor and this crash is still happening. I did memtest and it passed. event logs are no longer present. I decided to update all my drivers and updating the intel rapid storage technology driver was a huge mistake because after i did that i could no longer get to my DESKTOP unless i went in to my bios and took my drive off of raid and on to IDE. So now i can no longer use my ssd caching. and when i try to do system restore to undo the IRST driver update, it just hangs on "preparing to system restore" perhaps i didnt wait long enough. One time instead of crashing i got a message pop up saying something about nvidia and kernal problem but windows was able to recover (is it POSSIBLE a bad gpu is causing all this), then some more crashing And finally i get a blue screen which was code |

Solve : Mouse click confusing action.? |

Answer» I use a desk top computer with Windows 7 primarily for emails and using Excel. A problem with using the MOUSE has started after years of normal use. In Excel, if I click on an empty cell I GET one of two results. The normal one illuminates the cell and I can then type an entry into the cell. The abnormal one, illuminates the cell but it has a flashing vertical bar in the cell. I have tried this repeatedly and I never know whether the click will give the normal or abnormal result. The normal one illuminates the cell and I can then type an entry into the cell. That is when you Single-Click. The Cell is selected and you can enter new contents. Quote The abnormal one, illuminates the cell but it has a flashing vertical bar in the cell. Finger tremor or a too sensitive mouse? Either way, I now understand the nature of the problem. I will try another mouse: the one I had been using for years. At the same time, I will try to control my finger better. But I am over eighty so that is not so easy! Thanks for the help.I have had index finger tremors from time to time, which have resulted in single clicks BECOMING double, it seemed to help if I used a wrist wrest, also I have had mice which, when several years old, developed contact bounce in the little microswitch underneath the left mouse button.Knowing keyboard techniques with Excel might also help. You can use arrow keys on your keyboard to move from one cell to another. Hitting the F2 key will put the cell into the edit mode (where the blinking bar appears), the same as a double click. My colleagues used to laugh at me for preferring the keyboard in Excel, but now they COME and ask me how to do things. Thank you for that advice re using the keyboard for Excel. I do use it a lot already but I will get into the habit of using the arrows more. Also, I am being more careful in clicking when I have to use the mouse.Quote from: denisaf on April 16, 2015, 09:08:33 PM I am being more careful in clicking when I have to use the mouse. Why don't you buy a new mouse (they are not expensive) or change the double-click speed setting?
