Answer» I have a file which when i got it was an application file which could only be played in macromedia flash player 7. I have tried to convert this using online converters and just changing the file name.Changing the file name does only that.I cannot play it in any other programme. I would like this to be converted to be uploaded to youtube if poss,or any other format where it can be played in anything other than flash player?? Hi, thanks for the link, however it says the video cannot be found on the page? Which video can't be found on which page! Could you please be a little more descriptive with your posts. I know you have a video that only plays through macromedia flash player. Have you followed any of the videos posted?Hi, ok the link to the youtube uploader, will not upload my file STILL. The first link posted brings up a 'watch2video site' how to convert any file, the video on this screen does not play Does this help? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H91u8Ys0_c0&feature=relatedHi, Have you tried vlc media player ? It has a good convert option and I believe it can also convert flash and it's free vlc player download http://www.downloadvlcplayer.net/http://www.swftoavi.com/ is one example... google 'swf to avi' for others. The resultant avi should be fine for you tube mike Have you REQUESTED the Dutch site to re-send the file yet ? ?Hi all, been trying with this for a while, not getting very far.ill try again :-) I have a file named 32_02_03_11_002_WPL_13_33_englisch_mit_ Sprache.exe.It says it is an executable file if i try email it. It is an application file, .exe I want to upload this to youtube if poss, i have tried to convert it to a avi or another format but the converters do do support the file typealll i can do with this is play it in windows macromedia player.can somebody please take a look?Quote from: patio on October 22, 2010, 06:52:05 AM Have you requested the Dutch site to re-send the file yet ? ?Ah ha...it would appear that you have a flash projector file...this has the flash plus the player altogether and will certainly be rejected by convertors. You need the swf itself ...heres one software example but there are others. You can even use a hex editor as the 2 parts are simply STUCK together. http://www.northcode.com/blog.php/2007/08/02/Extract-SWF-files-from-Flash-Executables then get the result converted mike |

Solve : Computer locks up using CD Rom and USB.? |
|
Answer» Quote from: dj-allen on October 07, 2010, 11:20:16 AM Sound like a hardware problem. To me. I had the same stuff happen to me and they told me it was my hard drive. That my hard drive was going out I don't know but that's what they told me at BestBuy. You really should never believe people at places like Bestbuy. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nmNrm9vHBHs&feature=player_embedded http://news.cnet.com/8301-10784_3-9791372-7.html As I noted in a thread here (started my Nathan, if I recall) I sure am glad I know how to fix these things myself; I get shudders thinking of all the people who actually trust places like bestbuy... All that being said, It could very well be a hard drive problem; If it freezes Solid (no errors, no nothing; mouse stops moving- SOLID) it could be the hard drive. But it might not be. Quote from: JIggens on October 07, 2010, 10:55:07 AM Let me try to explain... First off, the optical drive is a 39pin.yes. Patio was probably thinking of the 80-conductor type ribbon cable, for IDE drives. There are two types of ribbon cables, they both have 40 pinholes (one is sometimes plugged, as in your case): The older 40-conductor cables(bottom): and the newer 80-conductor cables: (source: http://www.pcguide.com/ref/hdd/if/ide/confCable80-c.html) Basically, you need the newer one for faster hard drives- which pretty much means any hard drive. If yours is using the former type (40-conductor, thicker wires), get a replacement 80-conductor cable from a local store, and see if that helps. Aside from that, we might be able to learn something from the bluescreen errors. Download BlueScreenView from here unzip the downloaded file, and double-click on BlueScreenView.exe to run the program. when scanning is done, go to Edit - Select All Go to File - Save Selected Items, and save the report as BSOD.txt Open BSOD.txt in Notepad, copy all of the content, and paste it into your next reply [/quote] Quote from: JIggens on October 07, 2010, 11:18:34 AM Actually.. no i didnt think I had to mention it... computer runs fine as long as I don't use the CD-Rom or plug the printer or scanner in USB. The error prior to me reformatting was something about a physical memory dump. I am just trying to figure out why my CD-Rom, Printer and Scanner are locking up my system. It's impossible to say; there could be any number of causes, from a bad power supply to a damaged motherboard. The bluescreen info might be helpful, it could just be a bad USB driver.Quote from: BC_Programmer on October 07, 2010, 12:03:09 PM You really should never believe people at places like Bestbuy. And it was not my computer it was my grandma's and she had to take it there or else it would void her warranty. So we had to take it there and the new hard drive was free.Wow. Usually BSODs are pretty consistant but yours are all over the place. You mentioned a graphic driver earlier; have you installed any 'driver update' type of 3rd party program? Have you updated your BIOS to the wrong version? I would also recommend re-seating your RAM and checking your BIOS version and maybe see if your manufacturer has released an update. I doubt the HDD is at fault here, but from what you've told me it sounds like a BIOS, ram, or a motherboard problem.Quote from: OpenSource on October 07, 2010, 08:49:18 PM Wow. Usually BSODs are pretty consistant but yours are all over the place.BSOD's are more likely to be "all over the place" then consistent, especially when it comes to hardware problems. Quote You mentioned a graphic driver earlier; have you installed any 'driver update' type of 3rd party program? Have you updated your BIOS to the wrong version? The wrong BIOS version would cause the computer to be unable to boot, and even if it didn't it wouldn't cause BSOD's "all over the place" Quote I would also recommend re-seating your RAM Agree, since RAM could be the cause. But the Power supply, CPU, or motherboard could just as easily be as well; and one of the modules itself could be faulty. Quote and checking your BIOS version and maybe see if your manufacturer has released an update.the BIOS is almost entirely redundant here, the BIOS is a piece of software, and all software is deterministic. Therefore, so too would the BSOD's be deterministic; but, as you observed yourself, they are "all over the place", so clearly a piece of software is unlikely to be the cause. Well, I can now install some cds through the cd rom, but others freeze it solid. Tried usbs and i can use one, but more than that computer still freezes solid!!I did a driver scan... drivers all up to date... Here is my computer info. hope it will HELP solve my problems. [recovering disk space - old attachment deleted by admin]"The wrong BIOS version would cause the computer to be unable to boot, and even if it didn't it wouldn't cause BSOD's "all over the place" Where are you getting your information? I usually see stop 7b errors a lot when there is a problem with the hard drive booting, etc. Most blue screen errors are very consistant. I have also seen really wierd things when the wrong BIOS version is installed. For instance on one customer's computer they had the wrong bios version installed and they couldn't plug the keyboard and mouse in at the same time without the computer freezing. Updated the bios and viola! problem fixed. A driver update site or downloader could have very possibly detected his system and simply have given him an incorrect (but close) bios update. I'VE SEEN IT HAPPEN. Not sure where you're getting your information, but once you've gotten a little more hands-on experience (I have about 13 years worth), you start seeing certain patterns. Also, without seeing the computer, who knows what's wrong with it. I'm just going by what information I've been given. You consistantly undermine my posts with your false information....is your epeen shrinking or something? You are on the short road to banland. The last piece of info I got from Drivermax. I wanted to make sure all drivers were up to date, which they were. I have more experience with software than hardware, and if this is a hardware problem I need to know. I have self taught myself everything I know. But this is frustrating me and I need to fix it, but keep getting different advice. I am still not sure where to start looking for the problem.Ah ok drivermax. Now we're getting somewhere. I would go to your computer's manufaturer website and download your original chipset/motherboard drivers and uninstall drivermax.Driver max is a driver scanner... once I am done using a program I always uninstall it if I am not going to use it any further. My bios seem fine but thank you for you suggestion. Tried using CD Rom today... It froze my computer solid AGAIN. Tried plugging printer and scanner in USB ports. Darn thing froze. I am about to throw the flippin thing out the window. Now my display is blinking, twitching. Tested to see if it was the monitor, its not. This computer is crying for help and I can not for the life of me understand whats wrong!!!Quote from: OpenSource on October 08, 2010, 02:31:28 PM "The wrong BIOS version would cause the computer to be unable to boot, and even if it didn't it wouldn't cause BSOD's "all over the place"The Wrong BIOS version would affect the BIOS code. The BIOS code takes a backseat once the computer switches to protected mode. BIOS code can only run in real-mode. The fact is, the "wrong" BIOS version would be more likely to cause a completely and entirely unbootable situation. BIOS version-related-issues can only surface during the short time the BIOS code has control. As far as hard drive "support" from the BIOS goes, I suppose there is a corner case: 1999-era and earlier PCs often have BIOS updates that overcome BIOS hard drive size limitations; however, the problems caused by an older (version without said "patch") will nearly always be an unrecoverable hang when the BIOS inspects the IDE device using the ATA Identify command or the drive will be misrecognized. You may be thinking "aha! so you agree with me!" but no. If the BIOS was the wrong version then this misrecognition would have occured from the get-go, it wouldn't have suddenly cropped up out of nowhere. Quote I usually see stop 7b errors a lot when there is a problem with the hard drive booting, etc. Most blue screen errors are very consistant. This of course has nothing to do with the BIOS (although it can be caused by using AHCI with a older OS that doesn't have built-in SATA support, but that's an OS problem, not a BIOS problem), and is a problem with the loader/device driver, or possibly the drive itself. When I used the words "more likely to be 'all over the place' then consistent, especially when it comes to hardware problems." I meant, it's more likely, not 100% surefire to be all over the place; and by hardware, I was referring more to the CPU, RAM, IDE controllers... or IDE cables... and various other solid-state devices, not necessarily the hard drive, which is probably not the issue (given the all-over-the-place nature). I admit my wording was ambiguous there. Perhaps I should introduce a nitpickers corner. Quote I have also seen really wierd things when the wrong BIOS version is installed. Several things; first, that isn't a BSOD. second, the incorrect BIOS was initializing the PS/2 BUS wrong. There is no denying the wrong BIOS can cause problems, but it can only cause problems within the few seconds it's active. Usually the wrong version means an entirely unbootable system. lastly, that could very well have been a case of an outdated BIOS, or possibly a revision with a bug that causes that (initializing the PS/2 Bus incorrectly, causing concurrency issues). (and if this was USB, even more so; the USB root hubs on the motherboard are of course initialized by the BIOS (for keyboard support as well as the ability to boot from Mass storage devices). If the wrong version is installed this bus may not be initialized properly. causing the issues you perceived. Quote I'm just going by what information I've been given.Right. We all are. And the fact is at the very least IMO this problem is almost certainly not BIOS related going by that information. Quote You consistantly undermine my posts with your false information....I'm not following you around... you're just posting and I see the threads. And I respond to your posts. Wether I'm undermining you with "false" information is clearly a matter of perspective. Quote from: OpenSource is your epeen shrinking or something? Yes, mine is, sure.... Quote from: OpenSource Not sure where you're getting your information, but once you've gotten a little more hands-on experience (I have about 13 years worth), you start seeing certain patterns. I have experience too. Funny how I've never felt it important enough to mention. In fact, you'll note that my certifications list in my profile is empty. But I could fill it with several; I just feel that they are almost wholly redundant, since almost all the tests I needed for them could probably have been passed by a grade-schooler (and those that didn't are wholly irrelevant to this site, so posting them would be even more vain). Until IT actually becomes a profession (things like licenses and regulatory agencies like they have for law firms, contractors, Accountants, etc) almost all "certifications" will be wholly meaningless and merely words on paper. And I refuse to hold out said paper in front of others as some sort of pseudo trump card "Oh yeah, well I have certifications! So I must be right! I have experience! So I trump u!". This is pretty much the same reason I LISTED my experience as "Experienced". I let my posts speak for themselves, and people can decide for themselves. (which I suppose they would do anyway). Pre-emptive snarky comment: "Well I have decided for MYSELF! LOL!" Quote from: OpenSource on October 08, 2010, 03:29:42 PM Ah ok drivermax. Now we're getting somewhere. Agreed. Hopefully that will fix the issue. Wow bc. You have way too much time on your hands to write an entire essay on one of my sentances. You ain't seen nuthin yet.... |

Solve : OEM software purchased from site "B" legal?? |

Answer» Personally, getting all haughty on CH when people admit using pirated software is as far as I am prepared to go; ratting suppliers out to the BSA or whoever sounds a bit *censored*. Personally, getting all haughty on CH when people admit using pirated software is as far as I am prepared to go; ratting suppliers out to the BSA or whoever sounds a bit *censored*. Well, I can see it with people, who might not even KNOW they have a pirated install, but when we are talking, say, computer stores selling pirated copies as LEGIT for the same price, that's more purposely dishonest in the name of profit; burn a 5 dollar CD (probably less) and poof, they sell it for 200+ dollars, of almost pure profit. I believe the "OEM" in question is that they sell a speical version of windows, office, etc for system builders only. Building a barebones kit makes you the "manufacturer".Quote from: OpenSource on October 09, 2010, 09:35:46 AM I believe the "OEM" in question is that they sell a speical version of windows, office, etc for system builders only. Building a barebones kit makes you the "manufacturer". Only if you can persuade Microsoft you are a commercial seller of complete computer systems. WOW, I certainly didn't expect all those kinds of RESPONSES. (I hope you guys are all friends still) To those of you that were honestly trying to help me solve my dilemma, THANK YOU very much. I really appreciate all the time and effort that you put into it. Always have. I am deeply indebted to all of you members and experts that are willing to share your knowledge and talents with those of us who are less informed. That being said, I have decided what I am going to do....I am going to trash the "OEM" copy of Office 2003 that I PURCHASED from eBay (I will eat the $32.00) and go shopping for a legitimate copy. I may have my price, but it is certainly not $32.00...(the older I get the higher it gets) meanwhile my receipt from Newegg calls my Windows 7 software as OEM, while the packing slip calls it DSP? ? So I am keeping that for the time being.. I have another question; are the older versions of "Office" all compatible with Windows 7 (64 bit)?? Thanks again guys.. I have learned a lot from all of you. JIMOpen Office is Free and compatible with all MS Office apps... Or if you are a Student currently there are substantial discounts on all MS products. At Patio says, you might want to also check out OpenOffice. Quote meanwhile my receipt from Newegg calls my Windows 7 software as OEM, while the packing slip calls it DSP? ? So I am keeping that for the timeYep, it's DSP; should be fine. Often times OEM us used erroneously and interchanged with "OEM". Quote I have another question; are the older versions of "Office" all compatible with Windows 7 (64 bit)?? I can tell you that Office 2003 works on Win7 64-bit; I have it installed on this win7 machine and it works fine. I believe there are people running Office 97 just fine on win 7, as well. THAK YOU both.. I will look into OpenOffice. I though that I checked it once and I could only use to to read, not write or modify... So I am keeping that for the time being.. Hold on!!! http://www.buycheapsoftware.com/faq.asp Quote DSP means "Delivery Service Partner". OEM means "Original Equipment Manufacturer" and normally would have the hardware manufacturer's name stamped on it. DSP software is similar to OEM software however there is no manufacturer's name stamped on the manual or printed on the license. DSP software is more generic and OEM software is sold directly to the computer manufacturer. Thus the distribution channel is different for DSP. DSP software is distributed for smaller system integrators and system builder hobbyists for "clone" or no-name computers. Like OEM versions, DSP versions often come with only an electronic help manual, which is built-in to the software or a small getting-started manual. The software itself contains the same programs as the Retail Box version, except the Retail Box version normally comes with a small printed manual. Both OEM and DSP Microsoft software include a COA, which is a Certificate Of Authenticity label or sticker from the manufacturer. Did you get a COA with both products? If so, I would hold BACK from trashing anything. Quote I have another question; are the older versions of "Office" all compatible with Windows 7 (64 bit)?? As far back as Office 2000 is OK apparently, but Office 97 not compatible. Office 97 is not officially compatible with Windows 7, but it might be possible to install - not all features may work though. Salmon Trout, thanks for that post above. Makes clear what DSP and OEM are. |

Answer» Please introduce great WAYS to understand the differences between incremental backup and differential backup. Hard to differ these two... ? We still don't do homework.Definiteness backup contains are all files that have changed since the last FULL backup and the advantage of a differential backup is that it shortens restore time COMPARED to a full backup or an incremental backup. Now, here given below ADVANTAGES and Disadvantages: : Advantages 1. Restore is faster than restoring from incremental backup 2. BACKING up is faster than a full backup 3. The storage space requirements are lower than for full backup Disadvantages: 1. Restore is slower than restoring from full backup 2. Backing up is slower than incremental backup 3. Solve : tell me a good defrag tool !!? |
|
Answer» hi all, All versions of Windows have built in defragmentation applets. If you want a third party tool, two of the best are PerfectDisk and Diskeeper. Not before Windows 95 and win2k (Win 3.1 didn't have one; windows NT4 didn't either). But, all MODERN versions of windows- XP, Vista, 7- as WELL as many versions prior do. All Modern operating SYSTEMS have the capability built in. All the defragmentors in windows since win2k have been a "lite" VERSION of diskKeeper's commercial offering. There are quite a few differences.Quote from: BC_Programmer on October 12, 2010, 10:50:31 AM <pedant>Yeah well, I tend to live in the present |

Answer» Well this is getting way off topic which is why I didn't go into it at first, but since your so curious to know why Windows Firewall is a security hole. There's a lot of hacker tricks out there to easily get around it, it doesn't protect all areas and sometimes just gives a FALSE sense of security. It's designed with the principle 'the firewall should keep out unsolicited traffic', so it's not a flaw as such just a hole. |

Solve : disadvantages about open source software? |
|
Answer» Hello, Hello,You are way off, deep in the Wood`s You are completely wrong . VLC media player is open source and I challenge you to find a better media player that is not opensource and free. Opensource software is where it`s at, Firefox is open source and because of that look at all the tweaking you can do to it not to mention all the addons. You don`t see any of that with Opera or internet explorerHi, open source is less simple to control as far as quality is CONCERNED. The potential of the software is completely in the hands of the users, meaning that development can either be very fast of very slow. Without careful planning, open source software can cause confusion, inconsistencies, and even compatibility problems. Users of open source software must be careful to avoid this type of confusion. Thanks Balderdash...Quote from: patio on October 13, 2010, 03:09:31 PM Balderdash...Wow, they're coming out of the woodwork today.I beg to differ. Software, in my opinion, shared by thousands of other programmers and users globally, AGREE that software should be shared and therefore be free of charge if the software vendor wishes. The thought that all programmers could learn and share came from Homebrew and the start of computer experimentation and programming experiences. Rather than simply stating opinion, let's review facts that defend open source software: Firstly, let's start with Firefox (this will be an entire essay here, but it should be accurate.). - Firefox vs. IE 1) Security and Share Statistics: Firefox (or Fx), as of 2010, patched it's code six to seven times faster than when compared to IE. (See Wikipedia and other sources--this is not another Fx myth.) Microsoft (MS) states Explorer is "2.9 times better than Firefox in protecting against malicious malware." These statistics are simply not true for Firefox as a whole, as they were taken from a Windows-based computer; on a Linux-based PC, it is estimated to be much safer than IE. Secondly, IE was rated more secure for the newly implemented "SmartScreen Filter" which Firefox does not have. What the users are not told is that SmartScreen Filter is a unique feature that is an IE-only implementation--open source browsers have their own security implementations underneath the browsing experience, though they are not obvious to the end user. 2) Firefox has, as of 2010, climbed to a 30% market share. IE holds 49%, but Firefox will slowly catch up--therefore, while it is true Fx does not have as much of an advantage yet, it will. Fx supports HTML5 tags--on the current IE release, version 8, HTML5 support is in development. MS even states in their own "Compare" chart: "Firefox and Chrome have more support for emerging standards like HTML5 and CSS3, but Internet Explorer 8 supports standards commonly used by the websites you visit today." What, then, will happen to sites tomorrow? Fx 4 is already on its way, and though IE9 promises more standard support, Fx4 is also stepping ahead in improving browser functionality as well as of Beta 5. Other Facts: ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- - Windows employed Service Pack 1 to VISTA--the first batch caused computers to randomly reboot, causing a postponement in automatic deployment; in addition, Vista had (and this is an understatement to give Windows users the benefit of the doubt) 300 fixes within the deployed service packs. While it is undeniable that Linux is also updated mainstream, Linux is free software, while Windows is not--rather, for Vista Ultimate, on average, the end user purchases a copy for $350. Therefore, in conclusion, shouldn't software that relatively, in the case of an upgrade to Home Basic, that costs 100x at $100 more be developed properly, with their developers fully funded? - Apache and MySQL are being rapidly adopted in the online world over proprietary standards for websites. 200,000 users are now using openOffice.org and variants (and this is simply from web surveys). - Android, a Linux-based OS for smartphones, is estimated to have gained 17% market share; Symbian OS has gained 40% as of 2010. Combining these figures together in an 100% share would result in 57% of the mobile market. Before Palm was purchased by HP, it also used webOS, a Linux-based operating system. - The world's top supercomputers, including the Cray, use a variant of the Linux operating system. It is easier for developers to run and maintain accurately, as the code is more secure and reliable. If bugs are found within the system, they can be fixed within hours of release. - Open source operating systems, due to the fact they are "open" can be coded by any programmer to run on hardware ranging from a supercomputer to an iPod. Windows cannot be openly ported, though it does support ARM and other mobile architectures. As for software support to these ports in 2010, an estimated 32,209 software packages are available to the Linux user or programmer to install, compile, modify, or use. Windows far surpasses this, however, the rumor of no programs being available for open source systems is no longer the case. For all operating systems, an estimated 240,000 open source software projects are currently being hosted. Opinion & Conclusion: ------------------------------------------------------------ Open source software is better, as you can change it *legally*, distribute it to anyone *legally*, and burn multiple copies of it at will *legally*. Proprietary software limits the media features (again, Windows 7 Starter to Windows 7 Home Premium--this is a fact), and where the software can be backed up legally, and how many copies you can have. Many users resort to piracy because they cannot afford new copies of software. Additionally, when more people see and work on the same project, more minds can see what they are working on and thereby fix it. Therefore, with all these statistics, without arguing any further, as a programmer, or simply an end user, would you use proprietary products on your computer? -- Andrew Greimann There are no disadvantages to Open Source Software. I have been wondering for a while... Everyone has at least one version of windows, because it is included in any new computer you buy. But I have never seen or heard of anybody buying separate Windows software. I know of a lot of people who got illegal copies of whatever you want, from 98 to Vista - don't know anyone yet with 7 - with partitions sometimes (Vista and xp, plus Linux). But it seems like people don't want to pay for a new windows software. Open source seems great, I would think. Many individuals buy their own retail copies of Windows, for whatever reason. It has been an excitement started since Windows 95, that was brought back to surface with Windows Vista. Purchasers of the Ultimate edition stayed up hours for their copy, and these are simply two examples of Windows enthusiasts' excitement when new copies arrive (after all, they wait, on average, three years.) Even with open source OSes, I imagine everyone has their finger on the Download or Upgrade button the day of release. However, yes, others do indeed wait to get a brand new computer with a brand new Windows copy, and others simply by one refurbished or used. To me, however, Windows was great back in '95. Today, I'm not sure what the MS team is thinking... (namely, every release after XP, including Server 2008 R2). Use an open source OS--they're flat better--as you can customize the computer to your liking legally.Quote from: agreimann on October 15, 2010, 09:42:14 AM Use an open source OS--they're flat better--as you can customize the computer to your liking legally.I believe you're talking about customization that requires programming knowledge and most users do not have that. And, depending on what "customization" you're talking about, Windows users make various preference settings to their systems. Quote from: agreimann on October 15, 2010, 09:42:14 AM Many individuals buy their own retail copies of Windows, for whatever reasonSome users buy Windows to upgrade from an older version of Windows. Other users may happen to obtain, or build, a computer with no OS and, therefore, need to purchase Windows if that's their choice of OS. |

Solve : Poll: List OSes you know about or what *you* use!? |
|
Answer» Please take the time to vote for your OS of choice or one that you know about. Try to come close to the options as much as you can--these options most likely won't cover *every* computer user--feel free to comment if you use Haiku or another OS if you want to. This poll is being used as I'm thinking of working on a Linux distribution--and I'd want to know who would use it or who to best model it for. This poll is being used as I'm thinking of working on a Linux distribution--and I'd want to know who would use it or who to best model it for.I don't see how this poll COULD possibly be used "to know who would use it or who to best model it for." And, besides, aren't there already enough Linux distros? If you want to get involved in the development of a Linux OS, why not join the other DEVELOPERS of a certain distro in a coordinated community effort? I believe that's how most of the Linux distros are developed.I apologize it took a while to reply back to you--I just let the poll KEEP going. Honestly, you have a good point here, however, what I mean by "who would use it or who to model it for" is how the operating system should look and act (e.g. if Windows is the primary OS that voters pick, then I'd have the UI behave like Windows and look somewhat like Windows.) As for joining a Linux community, I have thought about and tried something like that... and I really would like to start a new one that I'd like to have portable apps run on. Thanks for your input. It is truly appreciated--and I honestly will think about and take note of it.where can you learn enough about linux to be able to use it? and how long would it take? I'm afraid of the apparent complexity of the process. Maybe if I knew a bit more... and I think a lot of people are like me.Quote where can you learn enough about linux to be able to use it?There are tons of websites and books. Solve : Software to Enhance Volume.? |
|
Answer» Does anyone know of any software out there that enhances the general volume output of headphones/speakers? Check all your volume settings. It's all max. I really would just like to know if such software exists. I'd say if it did the higher volume you'd get the less sound quality? I don't mind as I'd only increase the volume a bit.Timus ...... I'm curious about your not getting enough volume from your headset .......... Is it that you cant hear the sounds ? Perhaps you might wish to have you hearing tested, it's possible you have a wax buildup in your ears. dl65 You need low impedence headphones to achieve higher volumes, but that is unlikely to be advisable. I suspect that most soundcards if pumped up to max on all mixers will generally produce a level of volume likely to cause permanent hearing loss. Unless of course your soundcard is faulty, in which case you should change it...Quote from: dl65 on April 03, 2007, 01:07:36 PM Timus ...... I'm curious about your not getting enough volume from your headset .......... Is it that you cant hear the sounds ? Perhaps you might wish to have you hearing tested, it's possible you have a wax buildup in your ears. Thanks for your concern. I am a percussionist, and drums make a lot of noise... however I either dampen the kit (if I'm practicing) or wear ear plugs (if I'm doing a gig). I've never had my ears checked out because frankly, I don't think my hearing is sub-par. What is sub-par are 10 dollar headphones from K-mart, the reason I don't SPEND MUCH money on headphones is because I'm not picky about quality of sound. Volume is not that big an issue, I'm actually more interested if a program exists over anything else. I can hear THINGS just fine, I speak to team-mates on CS and hear them fine, I can listen to music fine. However, sometimes I like to crank it up... which is impossible because the max volume is (on this particular set of headphones) the mediocre volume. Quote You need low impedence headphones to achieve higher volumes, but that is unlikely to be advisable. I suspect that most soundcards if pumped up to max on all mixers will generally produce a level of volume likely to cause permanent hearing loss. It's not that the headphones are faulty, they achieve a good volume... however, the good volume is at max volume and as I said I like to crank it up sometimes. The soundcard's not faulty. Surely you know that some headphones are DEAFENING when you have it set at 1/4 max volume, and some headphones are mediocre at max volume? I can't be the only one who experiences this.Quote . I've never had my ears checked out because frankly, I don't think my hearing is sub-par. Then we may never know if it's the headphones... |
