Solve : Lock the system?? |
Answer» Is there a freeware download that will lock the system so it can't be used until I enter a password? I have seen Matrix but did not think it very secure. Thanks for any suggestions.Matrix??? Running Win XP Pro Excellent ! We're moving in the right direction...That matrixlock application looks pretty good, I just GRABBED it for myself. I've always used Windows-L and just LEFT it at that, but I'm a sucker for cool gimmicks like this. Plus, I'm a huge Matrix fan. So there you go.And there you have it...Apparently so.Question! Someone told me if computer is switched off and back on Matrixlock would no longer be locking the system. I presume the Win/L method is not open to that? (No, not TRIED it, don't want to SWITCH computer off without shutting down properly in case it causes more problem!)Windows-L will not continue to lock the system if the power is switched off, no. |

Solve : Copying a Sage CD? |
Answer» Hi everyone! We purchased a Sage accounts package via our old accountants. The package was loaded straight onto our book keepers laptop. We have never been given or seen the original cd, box, leaflets, etc. I asked for the cd sometime later and was told it had been given to the book keeper (it wasn't, we have established that). However, the accountant said he could give me a copy. So we know for certain that he lied to you straightaway on at least one occasion... Now what was your question? Hayles....... Are we refering to the Simply Accounting package ? If we are , it's quite possible that the product was purchased ONLINE and d/l and then a copy put onto a disc ....... or for a additional charge, Sage would ship a original cd to the purchaser. It's also possible that your "old accountants" had purchased a multiuser license ( which would cover 6 users). Quote He gave me a cd with Sage handwritten on it. He gave me the codes to put in.This is possible, if the original was downloaded and the key given to your company. Quote Also, if he insists he left the original with the book keeper, possible, but unlikely if the original was downloaded. Quote how would he have a copy to give me?again if it was D/L thats all they would have had ....so a copy is what you would have received. If you want to be sure that your company is not using pirated software, contact Sage ...they should be able to tell you. Hope this helps ....... dl65 |

Solve : reformatting an ext hard drive? |
Answer» When I was USING Win 98 I used an external hardrive for back up and storage. At that time I formatted it for FAT32. Later I switched to Windows XP and formatted all my internal DRIVES with NFTS. Now I would like to partition the ext drive. Can I do that WITHOUT losing all my data? Can I switch the format to NFTS? Or do I have to clean ff the entire drive and start over from scratch? :-?You can't add partitions without losing data unless you use Partition Magic or a similar third party tool. |

Solve : Quick question about CCleaner.? |
Answer» I know you guys are all fans of CCleaner and I figured I'd finally download it and run it. There's almost 300 MB of stuff marked for removal and it'd be awesome to have that little bit of free space (I don't need it, but it'd still be nice). But do I have to worry about anything important getting deleted? How does the program know if I need any of this stuff or not? Most of it looks like stuff I don't need, but what if there are things that I need and just don't realize it? Or am I just being silly? CBMatt.... Well , have you looked at the settings ? it shows you exactly what it is going to be removed....... also if you look at the items to be removed, and see something you don't want removed ........ highlite that item , right click and save as text file . When I do that, it simply makes a log of the things it has marked for removal.Well, I found the option to have it ignore Ad-Aware, so I'll remove it from the search list, which will take care of that. As for the Java files...I guess I'll just manually move them since for the life of me, I can't find a way to tell CCleaner to not delete them. Here we go...CBMatt..... oops.....I assumed you wanted a log of what was removed ...... If there's something that ccleaner has identified as junk and for some reason you dont think it is ........ before you remove anything , go to where ever this info is and save it to a separate folder ........ I have never heard of ccleaner removing anything which was required by the operating system or any of the installed programs ...but I SUPPOSE there has to be a first time for EVERYTHING ....... If you have information which points to ccleaner removing any necessary part of the operating system or any installed program rendering them inoperative...... Please let US know immediately so we may take the necessary action. BTW , which version of ccleaner do you have installed ? dl65 Currently, I have version 1.36 installed, but I'm updating to the latest version as we speak. And yeah, I just moved the files that I didn't want it to delete. They weren't important or anything...they're just cache files for a site I like and because I have a horrible internet connection, I wanted to keep the files so the site will still load quickly. I don't have any real reason to suspect that CCleaner was deleting anything important. There were just a lot of files that I didn't recognize, so I wanted to be on the safe side. But after reviewing my log, it doesn't look like anything was too important. I just thought I'd ask for my own comfort. Heh. Thank you for your input. I'm really glad I finally jumped on the CC bandwagon, by the way. It cleared out tons of registry junk that I didn't need. It would've taken me forever to do that myself. |

Solve : MP3/WAV converter?? |
Answer» Do you guys know of any good free MP3/WAV converters? I was using Ogg Converter, which I really like, despite its simplicity, but it's not freeware and sadly, my trial expired and I can't afford to dish out $20 right now. I've tried EXPStudio's Audio Converter, Pak Audio Converter, MeowMultiSound, and all of the other freeware programs on Download.com and they're all rubbish. I need a free program that can convert an MP3 to a WAV and back without compromising the quality. Or perhaps even some kind of decent MP3-editing freeware.Have you checked in our Software FAQ ? ?I hate to sound dumb, but I don't even know where to find that.In the FAQ SECTION, labelled "Essential Software Tools", I think QA00016.Quote I hate to sound dumb, but I don't even know where to find that. Doesn't sound dumb at all...i've been driving all my life, mostly at a high rate of speed and i can't find Poughkeepsie...Thanks for the help, guys. I tried all of the relevant software and didn't have the greatest results. dBpoweramp is good, but the freeware version won't do MP3's. MediaCoder will, but it adds a little crackle sound to the end of every song I work with. Which is really too bad because the sound quality is great. That annoying little crackle comes through so clearly. I have used the two programs to come up with a temporary solution, though. I can use MediaCoder to convert MP3's into WAV's (it has no problem with that; just with doing it the other way around). Then when I'm done with the WAV's, I can use dBpoweramp (with the codecs I just installed) to convert the WAV into a WMA file. Then I use Windows Audio Converter to convert that WMA to MP3. It's a pain, but at least there seems to be very little loss in quality. But if anyone has any other suggestions, I would really appreciate it. If I have to use this CURRENT METHOD, I'll continue doing so, but it would be nice to do everything with one program instead of three. My Start menu is getting so cluttered. Looks like I'm gonna have to find an effecient way to organize all of my programs. EDIT: Forget what I said about the three-program process not compromising the quality. I just reviewed a few files and the quality is actually really bad. It happens when converting the WAV to WMA. I guess I just didn't notice it in the particular sound files I had converted. Oh, how I miss my dear Ogg Converter. You will find a link to the software FAQ in my signature. Try Audacity - get the LAME encoder for it.Thanks, Rob! I guess I overlooked the link to the LAME encoder when I first downloaded Audacity. It's going to take me some time to get used to using this, but it does the trick and keeps the quality intact. Thanks a bunch. No problem.Hi Man, How r u doin 2day? work n weather treating u there hope all is WELL fine with u there. Help me out on this matter, I had a HP laptop hewlett omibook, but have lose the password am using to open the window since then i can not be able to use my laptop whenever i switch it on b4 it boot to window it will request for that password i lost and have checked the laptop it doesn't have CMOS battery How do i do this, please help me out. SholaMy first suggestion would be to make your own post so people will actually see your problem. And use a spell checker and proper sentence structure, without the "text MESSAGING speak". You will get answers then such as " You cannot reset this like a desktop. You will need to contact HP and they will probably sell you a new motherboard. There is no other fix." |

Solve : Can't open links? |
Answer» I have an HP Media Center Service Pack 2PC, purchased 2005, running Windows XP, 2.80 Gigahertz Intel Pentium 4, 16 kilobyte primary memory cache, 1024 kilobyte secondary memory cache, 250 Gigabytes hard drive, using Outlook Express email, connected to internet with Hughes satellite, using the latest version of Internet Explorer, and my problem is I cannot open any links while on the internet, or in my email. I click on the link and the hourglass appears, and then sits there forever. When I boot up I get the following message "We're sorry the content you've requested is temporarily unavilable. Please try again" and that appears after bootup, and before the auto opening of AIM6 and Yahoo IM...When did this start, and what happened before it started? This began about 1 week ago, and I cannot think of anything I downloaded or changed on my computer...when I boot, as soon as my desktop appears, I get the "unavailable" message, and I click "OK" and then my AIM 6 and my Yahoo IM bootup...I have then on "auto" open...from then on, when I try to open links, the computer freezes. I HATE THIS COMPUTER!!!!!!!!What about if you type the address into the address bar? Solve : Burning a CD/VCD to DVD?? |
Answer» I want to burn a VCD specifically to a DVD, but I know there are some format kinks to work out which I don't quite understand. I have a DVD-RW drive, a CD-RW drive, and I used Nero Express 6, and found out obviously that you can't just copy a disc that isn't in the same format as the other one. So after I make an imageI THOUGHT you said it was on a cd......? please tell us exactly what your trying to do ........ It would make it so much easier for us . dl65 I guess I really am pretty clueless when it comes to this ... Anyhow, I was trying to covert the VCD into a DVD. The format of the data is a "DAT file", which opens with Windows Media Player, and there's also a couple of files under a .VCD format, which do not open. And I haven't a clue what to do on Nero to burn this kind of thing. I know it's easier just to make a complete copy, but I was going to give this conversion a try. Sounds much more difficult than I expected. :-/Quote To properly burn a VCD, you need to create an "image" of the disk on your computer. I don't know if Nero Express will work for this. You'll need to have a program create an ISO file from the VCD onto your computer, and burn that to the DVD in question.Have you tried that? No, I haven't. However, this method is the most sure-fire method of GETTING a disk burned, and it seems a logical solution. If I am wrong in this, and VCDs are different, I apologize for the confusion.I was actually asking the OP, because they still haven't got it sorted. I guess I COULD ask you too, why not. Seems like it should work to me, but I can't test it because I don't use Nero, and I haven't got a VCD handy. No I haven't tried it, because it doesn't appear to be an option. SoulFire...... Here's something that may ASSIST you . http://www.digital-digest.com/dvd/articles/article_vcd2dvd_page1.html dl65 Thank you very much. =) Hey, Calum, you weren't asking me? Oops. oh well, it's good to know if I haven't tried something. I probably should have mentioned that. Of course, dl65 is right on the money with a great answer. |

Solve : Problem with joining .divx files? |
Answer» Actually it's about .avi files that i added subtitles on it with the program Avisub. The result files have extension .divx but i don't KNOW if that is exactly .divx files. The problem is that :i have movie separated at two parts and i want to make one file with added subtitles to it USING the program Avisub.I have tried a two ways to do that but without SUCCESS .First i added subtitles to first part of the movie and after that to second part of the movie and after that joining the the two parts using the program "movie joiner". The output file have extension .divx but there is no subtitle on it. The other WAY i first joining the .avi files without subtitle and after that TRY to add the joined subtitle file but it doesn't work too.The program stops somewhere in the middle with notice that says that the .divx file is generated but actually the .divx file is with small size and it can't be opened. I don't know if the reason for that is the joined .avi files or the joined subtitle file. For the joining the .avi files i use the program " movie joiner" as i said and for the joining the subtitles the program "subtitle workshop". |

Solve : WINxp Edition? |
Answer» My new motherboard has a restriction on how much memory can be used effectively. Specifically, it recommended not more than 3Gig on "32-bit" edition and more for the "64-bit edition. Does this pertain to whether one has the Home Edition or the Pro? I have the former.XP Home and pro are both 32 bit. Why would you need more than that anyway? Why do some people climb Mt. Everest? Because it's there. But seriously I am only installing 2 Gigs but it's good to KNOW I have the lattitude to go higher (if necessary).Quote QuoteMore than what? Why would you need more than that anyway? 3Gb? Maybe for serious video or photo editing, or CAD work. CAD gobbles up RAM like nothing else, except maybe Vista. And sometimes Firefox. |

Solve : Software Recommendation? |

Answer» My friend WORKS at a large business and needs 'software' that will document the business’s piping system. YES, she tried everywhere and could not find what she’s looking for. Ideally, she wants software that will document the piping system in the maintenance sector. Plz, can ANYONE find, or recommend the right software for this task?Hi, I know of software that **can** do this, it is very-advanced and I would recommend it to anyone in a situation like this. The software vendor is called ’Alias’, they offer piping software, just give them a call by and I’m sure they can provide you with the software you want (that’s in the piping category). For more information, plz visit the following URL: http://www.alias.ltd.uk/ good luck! What are the INCREDIBLE odds of this? The question just "happened" to be asked at 1:17. The respondent just "happened" to register his new account and name (very similar to the product name) just three minutes later. Finally, five minutes after that the answer was posted as the right respondent was on for the first time, "happened" to see it in the forum he "happened" to be in and was knowledgable about such an unusual topic in such a specific way. ah, the old shill game!Eh?Hee hee.. Solve : Corrupt video files.? |
Answer» My girlfriend and I have been very busy with school lately and haven't had a chance to see each other in a couple of weeks, so she asked me to record some videos for her and e-mail them to her. Unfortunately, the videos didn't work. Figuring she was missing certain codecs or something, I decided to just upload the videos to Photobucket because it would be much EASIER than trying to explain to her what codecs are and trying to figure out which ones she would need. However, when I uploaded the videos, they were corrupt and playing at a faster speed. I won't even bother trying to explain it; instead here is an example. I tried uploading to YouTube and got the exact same results. |

Solve : RAM Booster?? |
Answer» Any opinions about RAM booster programs? I am trying RAMBooster v2.0, but have seen several others on freeware sites. Thanks for the advice. I will follow it and uninstall Rambooster.Good move. Quote It may have been appealing when RAM was $150 for 4 megs., but there is no need for such crappola now.Ah, the good old days, before I was even thought of . . .Lol, ram boosting tools probably use more than 4mb.I had one beast of a RAM booster (before I knew how useless they were) that sucked loads of RAM, it took up about 64Mb. I only had 256Mb at that time, so it was a bit of a blow. Oh, and the onboard GPU took up a further 32Mb. So it really reduced performance. That's why I stay away from them now.Well, we all like a free lunch! But this one SEEMS to be not so good. I have uninstalled it now. Thanks again. What a lot of them do is they tell Windows they are using RIDICULOUS amounts of RAM which cases Windows to ship data off to the paging file to make room for the RAM booster. The booster then gives back its memory and, in theory, you have free physical memory. I have no DOUBT some tools are useful for optimising memory, but the majority of them don't really do anything that Windows couldn't do normally. |

Solve : Outlook/Excel Mail Merge? |
Answer» At work, I have been asked to create a system whereby we have an Excel spreadsheet with two columns, the first containing the name of a client and the corresponding column containing their email address. (This part is, obviously, fine) 1. When clients changed their email address, would we need to re-import every time?Either that, or just update Excel and Outlook separately if such changes seldom occur. Quote 2. There would be a lot of clients, is there a maximum to the number of contacts you can have? No. Quote 3. There are already people in the Outlook address book to whom we would not want to send our client-intended en masse emails. Is it possible to create a kind of sub-contact list?Yes. Here's an online tutorial that should be helpful: http://office.microsoft.com/training/training.aspx?AssetID=RC011036431033 Okay, thanks so far. If there's no maximum to the number of contacts, I'm CURRENTLY looking to just use the Outlook contacts feature and make our clients a distribution group. However I know that when I put this to my boss he's going to ask how all of us on the network can have this contact list. When I go to File -> Share (Outlook 2000 and click on Contacts I get "The command is not available. See the program documentation about how to use this extension." The second thing I tried was to save my distribution list, as a .txt file. I then went to "Import" -> From another program or file -> Tab separated values. I went to another computer on the network and imported the contacts, which was fine, but I was only able to import them into that computer's "Contacts" folder, and not as a separate sub-folder of "Clients" or as a distribution list as I had had it on my machine. So again the other users would have the problem of not being able to select all the clients to send an email to, and the only way would seem to be brute force of individually selecting each contact which is obviously time consuming, or asking for it to always be done from my machine. Sorry to ask- but, any further thoughts? From a page in the online tutorial to which I posted a link in my previous post: "If you use Microsoft Exchange Server, you could share your Contacts folder with your coworkers." You need to have Microsoft Exchange Server installed in order to share Contacts or Calender in Outlook. To get your Contacts copied over to other computers, I believe exporting to a .PST file instead of a .txt file will work better. In other words, I believe exporting to a .PST file and then importing that file on another computer will allow carrying the FOLDERS over to the other computer and not simply import all Contacts into the Contacts folder. To export to a .PST file, go to File, Import and Export, select Export to a file, select Personal Folder File (.pst), click Next, expand the Contacts folder by clicking on the plus sign next to it, select the specific folder in the Contacts, and complete export. Then, import that into other computers. I'm not absolutely sure but I believe exporting to .PST will also allow you to carry Distribution Lists over. |

Solve : Batch File - Start Program? |

Answer» I'm having some difficulty getting a small maintenance batch file to call a program that I downloaded that ALLOWS the defragmenter to RUN automatically on Windows 2000 machines. The program will add a key to the users registry that I found on Kelly's Korner to speed up the Disk Cleanup utility on PCs with the NTFS file system. It will then add another set of keys to the registry that are created as a result of running Cleanmgr/sageset:111. Rather than run sageset on every user's PC I just exported the keys that were created on my PC and will call the registry edit in the batch file. It will then run sagerun:111. FINALLY it should call this disk defragmenter program. Here's the problem: |

Solve : Another pain in the *censored* question...? |
Answer» Okay my questions are a pain in the *censored*. Here it goes. Most of us know about nero alcohol deamon tools ect. If you don't know what those are then more than likely you may not be able to respond to this, not in anyway meaning to be rude, yes they emulate the drives which you mount your isos and many other formats of virtual cd's / dvd's. Certain games, in my case civilization 4 wont play unless you have the cd in. To me thats a pain. I perfer to make ISO files and mount them. Why are games able to read these disks and tell if they are fake or not? |

Solve : Video recording software.? |
Answer» Does anyone know of some good free video recording software? Rob has some good suggestions for audio in his FAQ, but there isn't really anything for video. I'm using a Sony Digital Handycam DCR-TRV250 NTSC. It came with its own video recording/editing software, but I have no idea what happened to the CD, and I can't get a free replacement. I've been trying to use Windows Movie Maker, but it just doesn't cut it. Everything turns out very, very dark and when I TRY to brighten it, it doesn't look natural at all (it looks too hazy). SnagIt 8 is an awesome screen recording program. It's not free though. My mum got it for something....cant remember. I use it to make video tutorials of random stuff like how to create a custom icon for a USB Memory Stick and batch commands and stuff.Well, what I need is something that will export videos from my camera onto my computer. That does sound like a useful program, though; just not what I need at the moment. Is your OS Windows Media Center Edition, as mentioned in your signature block? What does your computer do when you connect your camera? I don't have a video camera but I'm surprised your OS won't do this without any third-party software, just as my Win XP Pro opens an Explorer window when I connect my digital camera. Also, does the MANUFACTURER of your camera provide any software, maybe something you could download from their website? Did the camera come with any software?1. Yes, I do have Media Center. I think the only think specific to this version (that I've noticed) is that it's compatible with TV tuners and has the Media Center program for organizing media files. 2. When I PLUG in my camera, it just makes the noise to indicate that a USB device has been attached. I think it doesn't do anything else because it hasn't been synced with any software. 3. I can use the software included on my computer (Windows Movie Maker), but the quality is very poor. 4. I looked for the software once before (I can't remember the name at the moment), only to find out that I would have pay something like $50 for a replacement CD. The software isn't supplied by Sony, so they don't have free replacements. 5. The camera did come with software (I'm going to try to have to find out what it's called again), but I have no idea what happened to my original CD's. I've searched all over my house for them.Virtual Dub Not sure it will fit your needs but does some of what your Adobe program will do...Thanks, patio. I'm having a bit of trouble getting this to do what I want (I want a bigger-sized video with decent quality that isn't 100's of MB for only a few seconds), but if I mess around with it a bit more, I might be able to get it to work out. Thanks for the suggestion. If anyone else has any other suggestions for me to try out, I'm still open. |

Solve : scroll bars in Word? |
Answer» Greetings to all... That "desktop.ini" thing at the bottom, is that the problem maybe?? I don't know but do you need to use All Files for Files of type? Try changing it to Word Documents and see whether the behavior of the Open panel changes. There is a slight confusion with the terms you are using here. A "file" is a document or single item. A "FOLDER" contains files and/or other folders. The problem you have is that the Office dialogue boxes automatically scroll to the first real file in any folder. In your case, since you are viewing all files and you are configured to view system and hidden files, "desktop.ini" will be the first file in some of your folders. I do not know a way of overriding this behaviour, but here's a quick tip: In the dialogue box, press Shift-Tab, to move the selection cursor to the file/folder list. Then press Home to go to the start of folder list. You can use the cursor keys to go up and down the list, Enter to descend into one of the folders, and Backspace to revert to the containing folder. All without touching your mouse. Hope this helps. You might also find Word's Work menu quite useful. "Word offers a special menu called the Work menu. Located between the Window menu and the Help menu, this menu is designed to STORE a list of your commonly used files. Unlike the recent files list at the bottom of the File menu, Word doesn't add documents here automatically; you must add them manually. If you regularly use the same files, the Work menu saves you a trip to the Finder. Just select your document from the Work menu and get to work." For more, see Make Your Own Menu in Word, Excel, or PowerPoint (source of above quote). Here's another reference, http://addbalance.com/word/workmenu.htmHi again Rob and Soybean... Rob, Re: "In your case, since you are viewing all files and you are configured to view system and hidden files, "desktop.ini" will be the first file in some of your folders." This has given me the clue as to what I have done. I remember now that I clicked "show hidden files" some time ago just to see what it does and what files are lurking around inside the PC. I have now clicked "do not show hidden files" and my problem has disappeared. Soybean, I have had a look at those two references you offered. They are very intersting and I have added them to my favorites, thanks. My learning of computers has now advanced with the help this wonderful forum. Thank you gentlemen...... |

Solve : Outlook Calendar Reports? |
Answer» HELLO, I was wondering if anyone knoew if it is possible to report on a public folder shared calendar? Users make changes to appointments they shouldn't and I need to know what's CHANGED, who did it and when. Any ideas? thanksFirst thing you need to do is review the permissions for the folder in question. Secondly, to view all of the extra data for the appointment, open the appointment, and then go to Tools-->Forms-->Design this form. Click the All Fields tab. Use the "Select from" drop-down list to view the various hidden fields. The Mail fields may give you an INDICATION of who last sent an appointment change. I haven't found a "MODIFIED by" field, but a VBA wiz may be able to TELL us if such a field is accessible.thanks Rob, the 'modified by' field is a good place to startYou might also have a look at Exchange's logs - although that might be a needle in a haystack job. |

I'm almost afraid to ask this ....... but are you ABLE to log onto your companies network remotely ? Or ..... how about sending a Email to a supervisor..... If it's all that important then your boss should be happy to get the info for you . dl65 Could it be this? http://www.chaos.se/public/topocad.htm Here's an extension site, I got that company from the fourth one. Seemed to make the most sense. http://filext.com/detaillist.php?extdetail=pp -rockheh, it's already Monday now. But anyway, *UC* the job at weekends.Thought you may be interested... For PP extensions: http://filext.com/detaillist.php?extdetail=PP For TIX extensions: http://filext.com/detaillist.php?extdetail=TIX It looks like if you had the divX player installed, you may be able to open the main file. Good luck!.pp is the file extension for the Compressed Amiga archive file associated with POWERPACKER. .old is TYPICALLY used as an indicator for a backup copy of a file; appended to the filename when a newer version of the file has been created or saved by a certain program; often placed after the orginal file suffix (i.e. document.doc.old would be a backup copy of the file "document.doc"). May be created automatically by a software program, but may also be created manually by the user. .bak This file is a backup copy of another file. .tix is a divx file I'm wondering if this guy got fired. |

Answer» Anyone know what will open this, I think I have tried just about everyone on the net including an older arc602.exe...looking at the file(s) with a hex editor I can see it was done with (by) ARC 7.1 SEA Inc. any ideas on this? (pkunpak, winzip nothing like that worked)Have you tried WinRAR ? ?PKARC, maybe?Tried that and the pkxarc, got an :unknown file compression error, but it did extract one of the 10 files (its a .dbf file)Quote Tried thatand the pkxarc, got an :unknown file compression error, but it did extract one of the 10 files (its a .dbf file) Without a quote, it is GUESS work to know what "that" and "it" are. Just curious, which unarchiver did extract a file? The pkarc/pkxarc as well as arc602.exe couple other older ones, tried so many i forget all the names, but the one's that did anything just extract that one database file, thier are 10 files in thier, text as well as other .dbf files.Quote The pkarc/pkxarc as well as arc602.exe couple other older ones, tried so many i forget all the names, but the one's that did anything just extract that one database file, thier are 10 files in thier, text as well as other .dbf files. You can see 10 files in there somehow? or.... what? How do you know for sure there are 10? Just for fun, have a look at some of the command line switches for arc . v is for verbose listing of files. Can't hurt to try it and see what it says. t is for testing archive. What results when you try that? c is INTERESTING. "convert entry to new packing method" I'd be sure to have a backup copy of my original file before I tried this one. And I couldn't resist trying it. Sorry I'm not getting you closer to getting your files out. Maybe somebody else will come along soon with a new idea for you to try. Quote Have you tried WinRAR ? ?Quote QuoteHave you tried WinRAR ? ?
