The progress is that the DVD optical drive is displaying the "content" of the drive. Which does mean that the optical reader of the drive is functioning. Not using a proper player. or 2. Trying to play the video on a computer with inadequate resources to play videos.

The site I linked came from Googling for "windows 98 first edition updates" (without the " "), there's a lot more info out there.

Sure you can download and save the updates, I have all of the updates since SP.3 (Win XP) in a hard disk folder for backup. Also you could burn the files to cd/dvd.

If you are running Windows 98:

The choice is yours but it wouldn't be my first pick having one download per folder especially on the desktop. I would create a folder for the downloads (say C:\Win98updates) and download all the updates into it. As to burning disks, you have Roxio which is as good as many. If you don't have a Roxio user manual see this site..

Do I have to be on the actual computer the files will be going on? It would be quicker for me to download to my faster computer and then burn a disc.

Never had any luck with downloading 98 upgrades. I went with XP Home anyway and it works fine.

Lots of text docs in mycomputer/windows file on C DRIVE, maybe restore points? Looking at cleaning stuff up to get better performance. Delete except most recent? What does one think? Addition, these are labelled KB with 6 numbers after them, about 2-30 KB's each.Restore points are not text documents and they are in a hidden folder (SYSTEM Volume Information). Also, they are huge.

You are looking at Windows Update uninstall files - the names are probably in blue text. Yes, you may delete them. After doing so you should go to Add/REMOVE Programs and delete the associated uninstall entries.

@Allan, is it OK deleting Windows updates, what if some of them are security updates?They are not the updates themselves....rather the un-installer files for the updates.

No, when you uninstall windows updates from Add/Remove you run the very same uninstallers being discussed.

Except that if the installer has been deleted you will only delete the entry in Add/Remove, not the update itself.

We have some users who use Outlook Web Access.

When trying to save a signature in OWA, a couple of users find that OWA acts as though the signature has been saved but doesn't actually save it. This ojnly affects a couple out of dozens of users. So, I assume it is PC specific.

Can anyone throw any light on this one please?How big is the signature as compared to the OTHERS? What version exchange are you using and what version IE are your users using?

are they remembering to add the signature to the emails?

Within Options, in the Messaging Options section, select the Automatically include my signature on outgoing messages check box.

We use exchange server 2003.

The user was doing all the right stuff but it wasn't working. I bumped her up to administrator status and tried again. This TIME one of those messsages appeared at the top of the signatures window saying that an ACTIVEX control wanted to be installed. I allowed this and hey presto! the signature saved.... Interesting.

The problem has now moved on to the LENGTH of signature. The user gets a message telling her that the signature is too long when she saves it. The maximum number of characters it will allow before the signature triggers this error APPEARS to be around 100 characters.

MikeMike, which edition of the program are you using? Adobe PHOTOSHOP ALBUM Starter Edition 3.2 http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=3616 lists Vista in its System Requirements while earlier versions list only Win2000 and WinXP.

I know that I can forward the spreadsheet using the Routing procedure. However, there may be means that I am unaware of that will be a more efficient way of having a central version of the spreadsheet which is being continually refined while participants can also have their versions so the can carry out trials.I'm wondering what G&SC means.

Hello all,
I have windows vista premium and windows office 7 professional plus. When in word and I try and run spell checker/grammar, the grammar part works fine but the spell checker comes back clean when I know there are misspelled words, I put them in. It did work at on time but now it doesn't. I looked at the options and they are all like the 2 other computers, which are running well. I uninstalled and reinstalled but no joy. Not sure what else to do. I don't want to do a complete reinstall since all else is working correctly. Any ideas?

AlanBy Office 7, I assume you mean Office 95 (which was version 7) and not Office 2007?

ALSO, are you editing in more than one language? Doing so can sometimes confused Office, especially older versions, and it will only spell check one language and not the other, although it will still check the grammar of the other, much like you're describing.

i just built a i7 system and was running 32 bit on an older hard drive just to SEE if the system will run will and just purchased a tb hard drive as an upgrade and windows 7 64 bit, well i booted and installed OK not perfect it had some hiccups but it did install and lead to the desktop. Once there i received all my drivers and was running fine but of course it had windows UPDATES so i restarted the computer and now it BSOD everytime i go to BOOT, also i noticed that with 32bit not all my 8 logical cores were being used compared to 64 bit where it utilized all of them which is why i WANT 64 bit. anyone have suggestions/ same PROBLEM? As a side note i tried to use startup repair and they did not work (shocker)

Each time that I select a text and attempt to print only that text exactly where it is aligned on the page, Microsoft software always moves the selected text to the top of the page to print. I know how to select > copy > paste to another page and move the text to where I want it, but that is time-consuming compared to simply select > print as Corel WordPerfect ALLOWS ONE to do.
I have USED both Corel WordPerfect and Microsoft Word for fifteen years. Corel WP is ABLE to do as I am describing---Select a portion of a document > Print > Selected text > Print---and it prints the selected text exactly where it is located on the document rather than moving it to the top of a page to print .

I remember on Windows Xp you COULD just right-click a file, click Unlocker, it'll bring up a menu-thingy.... Delete, Move, Unlock All processes, ETC...

But no, I don't get any of that when I do this on Windows 7... I don't even know how the heck I would use the x64 bit version... Dumbest part of all is, it's in the /program files (x86)/ folder!?

For the past few days I have been getting emails from various people that have .eml attachments instead of the graphics in the body of the email as has been the case in the past. On Nov. 18th, I downloaded a large Window's update file from Microsoft that included Windows Live Essentials. It really is a pain to have to download these files instead of just opening the email and seeing the graphics displayed. I've gone into my Uninstall or Change Program File and found that Windows Live Essentials 2011 and Windows Live Mesh ActiveX Control for Remote CONNECTIONS were among the files downloaded on the 18th. My question is: Would it be advisable to uninstall Windows Live Email 2011 to stop getting emails with these .eml attachments? A Bing toolbar was also downloaded at the same time. When you say the Bing toolbar was installed, do you mean a toolbar or do you simply mean that Bing was set as the default search engine? To change the default search engine, just CLICK on the drop-down arrow next to the Bing icon and select a different default search engine. (1GB was the max supported with my motherboard) 1GB RAM should be plenty to WATCH clips, as in YouTube, without having to pause every minute or less.

Any ideas?

as I had problems when I tried to download and then open a DVD copy program. Downloaded fine, but would not open

Hi,

OS is WINDOWS XP SP3.

When the Server is started, the message 'The Sysax multi Server will not start'. In the control panel I had selected all the default ports and had selected the FTP server.

On some occasions the message 'Server is Running' appears, but when I go to the HTTPS interface the server is not running.

I thought this might be a port issue, and uninstalled some servers using other ports from my computer in case and restarted.

Norton Smart Firewall was turned off Windows Firewall disabled.

The problem did not occur during the TRIAL version, and as my license is a few weeks new I am searching for free or fee-based support, Sysax customer support appears non-available.

Any advise or support on getting this server to start, or finding what other program might be using the port would be appreciated.

The faq and support links provided were the very first places I read through to TRY to fix the problem. I have also gone through all the software documentation, and any related problem in the sysax forum.

Sysax support is apparently not available. My request for support from both the ticket based system and the forum has gone unanswered, even though the message in my Licensed software Pro version appears 'to contact support', and from a message on the forum it appears support has ceased.

I need to convert video file to EITHER .avi or .wmv to play on DVD players for others to see. Which extension WOULD work on most DVD players .avi or .wmv? Does anyone know. Not all dvd players will play anything other than normal DVDs but of the ONES that play other formats, avi (DivX, Xvid) is probably the most likely. Avoid qpel and VBR video for widest compatibility.

Hi. I have now lost the Toshiba HDD recovery program for the F8 options and i now cant restore my entire COMPUTER.

I went onto http://neosmart.net/blog/2008/windows-vista-recovery-disc-download/ and i burned the files onto one of my dvd-rw disks. when i used it i couldnt find the toshiba HDD recovery option. this was all i got after i used the downloaded recovery disk off of neosmart:

Check and see if the recovery partition is still there, perhaps the volume letter or name got changed.Before i downloaded, burned and used the recovery disk i made, there was an option to recover my toshiba pc to its origional factory state. but now there is no option to do that anymore. i also forgot to mention, i have to keep using the recovery disk i made to get to the first screen on the previous post i made.

Another option, if you KNOW someone with the same version of Vista as you, you can use their retail or oem disk(not a recovery disk) to reinstall, making sure you use your OWN product key to register. This of course if you don't mind losing any Toshiba crapware that came preinstalled on your system.

I got sent this statistical analysis program for UNIVERSITY and it came as an ISO image.
After I finally figured out how to open it, it won't let me copy the program onto the desktop or to any area on my computer.

It says that I NEED Administrator permission (which I have as there is only 1 account on my PC), so I click continue.
Then it says are you sure? I click yes. Then it says I do not have access privileges for the destination folder? What does that mean?

Is there something I can do to get this file off this image? I really need it for an assignment.

This is driving me NUTS! Several years ago, I got Nero OEM Suite 6. Only used it for music CDs. At the time, I also had a program called Snappy by Play Inc., for capturing video frame snapshots with a battery DRIVEN capture device. I got tired of it a few years ago.and un-installed it...or so I thought.
Recently. I've been toying with the idea of putting some old VCR tapes on DVD. Nero was going to be the burner. I got a capture device called Video Grabber USB 2.0. I tried capturing some video using Nero's Vision Express 2, but I keep getting the following error:
"Snapvid : Problem with Snappy SOFTWARE installation". When I click OK, Nero shuts down.

Why is Nero associated itself with Snappy? Yes, they were on the computer at the same time, but I uninstalled Snappy and removed the hardware. I un-installed Nero and re-installed it, but to no avail. I tried the same with Snappy, but it won't install for some reason. I don't know how to get into Nero's insides to find any references to Snappy. I did a search for any Snappy references anywhere on my machine but could not find any. I used a registry cleaner several times. I used "regedit" to look, but found nothing. I still get the same error message. Nero support is useless. Can anyone help with this? Any ideas how to rid my computer of Snappy?

am using Microsoft Outlook 2007. I've a main e MAIL account from my ISP and have created 2 further aliases e mail accounts. (Ex: [emailprotected], [emailprotected] and [emailprotected])
On my PC i've created three users (WINDOWS Vista). When am logged in and open Mic Outlook i receive e mails from all the three e mail a/c's.
Now when i log off and second user logs and opens Microsoft Outlook, all the emails from all the three a/c's are delivered again.(And the same with third a/c).
How can i change the settings that when am logged in the email sent to me only are delivered in my Outlook(Ex:[emailprotected] only and not from two other e mail a/c's)
I called my ISP,who said, its a computer setting related ISSUE, therefore they cannot help.

Now the colors change every 5 min (or sometimes every 5 sec the MONITOR goes crazy, changing colors to grey and back to blue again). When the colors go grey I have to start Warcraft 3 and exit it so they can fix . I assume the problem is COMING from Real Player, but I am not sure (newest version). I noticed the problem today, colors changed when I opened facebook (real player wasnt running than). Can someone help me?

The documents that I use need to have the original dates and using the static method on the UI site allows me to make the change once and it will remain that way.

I'm wondering if anyone can offer a SUGGESTION about what I can do about my video processing software.

Under XP and Vista I was using the software from my CAPTURE card (Neo DVD) to convert VHS tapes to MPEG-2, and then using Video Edit Master to trim the resulting file, and then using Handbrake to convert the MPEG-2 file to H.264.

When I upgraded to Windows 7, Video Edit Master did not work anymore. Looking for other free alternatives, I downloaded AVI Demux, but the files it PRODUCES cannot be read by Handbrake.

Is there SOMETHING I am doing wrong? Is there another video file trimmer that is more widely accepted that I should be using?

No improvement - either "Saving" or "Save As" causes the screen to disappear and the image to be lost. Until this happened I could save the image to a chosen folder (usually My Pictures).
Anyone any SUGGESTIONS? Click File, and then you can select the options in the menu. If you can't find the Save or Save As, try to USE" Ctrl+S" and see, whether there is a window pop up for you to choose the location to save your Paint Image.

My wife used outlook 2007 on my desktop PC (I prefer a web based mail server myself) and I have a saved copy of an Outlook 2007 pst file, then my computer CRASHED. After reinstalling all my programs and data my wife started using Outlook again and so we now have a second pst file. My wife has now bought herself a new LAPTOP and wants to merge the two pst files on her new computer.

I have looked on the web and found two sites, 1 states to go to TOOLS - services, but I cannot FIND a services tab, and the second states to go to file - open - Outlook data file and then drag in the files, but when I try to drag the file over I get an error message "The process cannot access the file because another process has locked a portion of the file".

Any ideas on how to copy the first file over and then merge the second?

For the past two days I have been getting "hits" by my FIREWALL stating that LABELER.EXE or its parent is attempting communication in or out (I'm not sure) of my computer, and asking me ALLOW or BLOCK. Since I didn't know what LABELER.EXE was I've been HITTING BLOCK.

Is this something I should allow, or is it something SNEAKY which should not be allowed?Some info:

Every day from 1:30 pm to 2:30 pm my hard drive runs constantly MAKING my system unusable. I don't think it is my antivirus because this was happening before I installed it. I've checked for spyware and viruses but nothing. I"ve tried Task Manager but it doesn't show anything. Thank you or any advice.
