I was using Online ARMOR free FIREWALL and they brought out a new version which I installed yesterday after scanning the program with AVIRA and Malwarebytes. But I had problems with a box continually popping up trying to install a scanner/copier (which I already have and works). It also froze the computer a few times, so I have uninstalled it and installed COMODO Firewall which seems to work fine. (At least for the limited amount of time I have used it.)
No problems with the computer freezing up now, but still get an annoying box coming up trying to install Scanner/Copier. (Which as already said is already installed and works.)
Any ideas how to stop this box coming up please?
PS I was unsure whether to POST this here or in the security FORUM, but thought this may be software rather than a virus problem, so I hope it is in the right ONE?

AVIRA Anti Virus
COMODO Firewall
Spyware Blaster
Win Patrol
Also scan daily with Super Anti Spyware and Malwarebytes. (No problems came up)No need for a reply. After searching around the Net I found other folk had a similar problem and were referred to the link below. Might be of help if anyone else here has the same problem? Just be careful you only use it to remove the item that keeps coming up.

Please help me out with this svchost.exe, it literary seems to overwhelm my system(Have a sneak peek at the Screenshot). I have often observed CPU Usage going to as high as 100% during System Startup & it becomes "Non-Responsive" for a couple of seconds!

Why there are multiple enteries for svchost.exe? Is this OK or some pernicious thing going on with it?

Your VCR has a S-video out? Does it have to 'RCA' jacks, one yellow, one read?
What if you put your TV set on AUX or LINE and run the patch cable from the VCR to the TV? You should have signal.


You can not use the RG cable output from the VCR unless you video capture device has a TV tuner. Or you video card does. The VCR will be on chan 3 or 4, except in other places it has to be a UHF. (UK I think.)

Give some details about how the video capture device works.

The may be part of the problem.
There are three major video standards in the world. See map above.
Let me see if I now understand.

1. You can capture stuff from your VCR using the device.
2. You have small tapes that play on an older camera.
3. The camera output does not activate the USB device.
4. But Telly never had a problem the old camera.

May I assume that you did copy to old tapes onto VHS so that you would not need that old camera anymore. And the VHS copies seem to be good on the TV.
It is only when you try to send the VHS copies to the USB device you get the message "no signal".

Here is my first guess.
My guess is the camera was from the states and uses the format used here in the USA. Both the Telly and the VHS machine know how to do the conversion.

If I am near right, the USB device must have an option to read the USA format. It is getting the signal, it is just confused because the scan and farm and even the polarity are different!
And, yes thee are even variations in the PAL format, and that also makes for some confusion.

If I guessed wrong, come back and we shall have a go at it.

Google Desktop offers a FEATURE that allows you to search your computer using an index. Is this the kind of database you are talking about?

Also, with Google Desktop, you can hit the CTRL key (or shift key... not sure exactly) twice, and a search box will show up. The search is ALMOST instant.

i have this cousin of mine that keeps pissin me off, he always downloads vids and transfers it to his usb (or vice versa) from the internet that are carrying trojans and virus. i keep blocking the website but he knows just how to undo it. i have antivirus but i really want to set the policy of my computer in a way that he can no longer transfer files into his usb or vice versaI don't really UNDERSTAND what is going on....

I am trying to send some music by E-Mail. Never tried this before, it is on a CD (Amateur, not copyrighted recording) and tried just attaching the file from the CD to the E-Mail (Yahoo mail). But it does not PLAY in either Windows Media Player (Which I normally play it on) or REAL Player. On the Properties box it has, "CD Audio Track" if that is any HELP?
It is 4.00KB. Is there any thing I need to know in order to do this please? I thought it would just be like sending a photo, attach it to the E-Mail?

on backing up Outlook Express stuff because we are going to have to wipe out my hard drive due to spyware, viruses, all that stuff. A friend of mine is helping me with my computer problems. Before he comes back, I'm trying to get things ready to backup as best as I can and stuff.
Anyways, when trying to follow the instructions on the Microsoft site, I'm running into a problem and don't know what to do. Here is what I run into and where.
Under Step B, on #1 # Click Start, click Run, press CTRL+V, and then click OK. is where I run into the problem
It says-
Windows cannot find '<[emailprotected]>'
MAKE sure you typed the name correctly and then try again. To search for a file, click the start button, and then click search.

Any idea as to why I would be running into this problem and what to do about it?
Step A was to copy the location of your "store" FOLDER. That would be a path. It should look something like this:
C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Local Settings\Application Data\Identities\{A3BE1CA0-5499-4204-A185-24876A581C6B}\Microsoft\Outlook Express

Re-do step A and copy (Ctrl-C) your address and then GO onto Step B and it should work.Amy, what are you using for backup media? CDs? flash drive? external hard drive? online STORAGE?Yes, I did do step A.
I followed the instructions it said to do. Did I not do something right? The only other thing that happend was that it came partially unhighlighted when I was doing #5 which says to click on Cancel. When I move the mouse to the cancel button, that is what happend.
CD is what I'm trying to back it up to.

The only thing I can think of is I'm not understanding how to copy the location. I folllowed the steps it said to do. The very first thing I did was opened up Outlook Express, and I did that by clicking on Start and then went to Outlook Express and it came up, then I followed the steps on the site. The next thing I did was clicked on Tools like it says on #2, then clicked Options, and all the other stuff it says.
When you click on the "store file" button and it opens the "Store Location" window, you need to left-click at "C:\" and then hold+drag all the way to the right.
Then press Ctrl-C
Then click cancel and continue with directions.

It's ok if it comes un-highlighted when you click cancel, as long as you already pressed Ctrl-C while it was highlighted.

I think you're either not highlighting all of it or not pressing Ctrl-C while it's highlighted.

Give it a try again - I know it works because I've done it several times on my own PC's.
I've attached a screenshot - when yours looks like that is when you want to press Ctrl-C

My mom was there helping me with this.
It looks like it maybe working now. It didn't say it couldn't find it. But the other thing that is different is I noticed the file- instead of saying Owner, it says AmyR
and this other thing is a bit different on mine is the thing that is after Identities, the thing that is in those brackets { } is different on mine.

Also, what do I do now that I have everything in the mail backup folder that it said to create on the desktop. Do I drag the whole folder to the cd?
Those differences are fine - they are just the difference between my PC and yours.

Keep going with the directions from Microsoft. If you've already gone through Step 4, then yes, you would copy that whole folder to your CD (burn it).

You'll start using everything when you get to "How to Restore Outlook Express items" - that's when you'll need your CD with the mail backup folder on it.

i got my windows UPDATE:microsoft .net framework 3.0 service pack 2 and it put this dadburn microsoft XPS document writer on my computer. well its causing problems and i can not find out how to remove it , i have already run the XPS removal tool from Rogosoft with no luck. are there anyway to remove it manully?

This past Christmas I received a computer that my father-in-law built. It has been working fine until last week. I leaned over the tower and made sure that the USB cord for my speakers was plugged in. At that point my computer shut down and then restarted. While LOADING it SHOWS the screen for the motherboard and then flashes quickly to a screen that says "No hard disk detected." Then it flashes from that to a screen that says "Reboot and select proper boot device or INSERT boot media in selected boot device and press a key." I have asked some of my more knowledgeable friends and they have been unable to help. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Hard Drive: Seagate SATADo you have an XP CD ? ?Yes I doBoot to the XP CD...
At the first PROMPT screen press R to load the Recovery Console...
Let it load fully and you will have a command prompt window.
At the prompt type in fixboot and hit Enter...
Remove the CD and re-boot.
If no joy-joy repeat the procedure above but this thime type in fixmbr and hit Enter...
You will recieve a warning...select Y to continue...
Again remove the CD and re-boot.

Bring us good news !I will try your suggestion tomorrow, unfortunately I have to go to work early in the morning. Hope that it works. Just out of curiosity what does fixmbr do.
Thanks again, will be back on tomorrow.Replaces the Master boot record with a fresh working version....I loaded the cd and typed fixboot into the prompt. It then told me "FIXBOOT cannot find the system drive, or the drive SPECIFIED is not valid." I then tried fixnbr and the c prompt just comes back up.Re-boot and see if fixboot works...

I am making an Animation and need help about the way you resize it onscreen.

My Animation is a 2. Inch ight Black Bar and it is 7. Inch Long.
In the Middel of this is a photo of an Enpalope.

What the Animation is is the Envalope moves from left to right on the Black Bar.

All work OK and looks greate.

When I put the code one my Page I know I have to resize it in Pixels.

I thought I could make the width realy long and the Hight realy small but that maid the whole thing look realy big.

I set the code Width to 60 and the Code Hight to 400 and it maid the whole thing look very very big.

So I gess when you make an Animation and go to put the code on the web page for the Hight and Width you can't resize it Indepandedly???

Or how does this work??Anyone??Experiment with it.

What is CGi e mail forms and can that be created?

I am trying to think of a good way to learn how to create email forms in html or that can use html or like that and I herd of CGi.

But I don't know if you can do it with CGi??The original question was about how to reside the animation. An animation editor PROGRAM will have a way to tesize the animation. Better to use the animation editor to re size images. Do not use HTML to reside the images. The results are poor or the image will load slowly.
Suggestion:
1. Create your animation with the features an colors you want in a large size, Save the work in a file format used by the Animation Editor.
2. Make some copies. of the animation and alter the size, colors, frames per second and other things like that. Save the file as a GIF or FLY or similar format.
3. Load the test animations onto a web site area you control. See which looks BEST in your browser. You may find that large images do not play well.

As someone else already said. Experiment. Be patient.

Hi is it possible to turn a external hard drive into a FAT format like a USB pen, SD card ect

Because my PS3 has broke and it can't read game disk's so I'm taking it back to the shop. But first I have to back up my data. None of my USB pens are bigger enough so I decided to use my external hard drive.

I made my Hard drive a FAT32 type using PartitionMagic but my PS3 still won't recognise it. But it recognises my USB pen (8Gb) and my SD card (4Gb)

So any idea's

I chose back up data, choose the external drive then it say you need 8gb or more and you can't say you want to save the data in parts'by external drive' I meant the usb pens not the hard drive USB flash drives are already FAT32...
Sounds like you got a bootleg 8G pendrive....eBay perhaps ?Yea I know flash drives are already FAT, but I want my external hard drive to be a FAT drive because my PS3 only seems to be recognising that sort of drive.

OUTLOOK experienced a SERIOUS problem with the 'kaspersky antispam outlook addin' add-in. If you have seen this message multiple TIMES, you should DISABLE this add-in and check to see if an update is available.

I just move a copy of the user profile to the old one. I don't know if .pst files may cause this error.

I've been trying to download Java, every time I download it gets so FAR and stops and I'm getting the error message error 25099 unzipping core files failed. I REMOVED all the old Java from my computer to see if that would help, but still getting the same message.

FIRST, you need to correctly uninstall the Java you have... look here: http://www.java.com/en/download/help/uninstall_java.xml and then proceed to the Java page about the error which is here: http://www.java.com/en/download/help/error_25099.xml and at the bottom it instructs you toward the OFFline download page. DON'T give up, it is important to your file system.

Some Rude people at other Forum made a FUN of me since:

1) I didn't know on how to OPEN "Command Prompt" Window without using "Start Menu". Probably they made a HINT about some "Key Combination". What's that?

2) I couldn't COPY the contents of the Command prompt Screen to PASTE at that Forum. Screen-shot ATTACHED clearly depicts ABSENCE of File Menu. Then how come I go to Edit>>Copy? Moreover, things do not get selected & copied from "Black Window"....?

Please help alleviate this disgust!

Make the "Start in" C:\

Make the "Shortcut" Ctrl + Alt + C (hold down the Ctrl+Alt+C keys)

Make the "Run" Maximised

Click the Options tab and in "Display options" bullet Full screen.

Cmd.exe can now be opened by either clicking on the shortcut or using your shortcut keys Ctrl+Alt+C

For explanation of Cmd.exe switches enter Cmd/? at the command prompt.

2.) Whilst in the Command Prompt window press Ctrl+Print Scrn - the content of the CP window will be Copied to the Clipboard as plain text (the background will not be copied) and can then be Pasted.

Navigate to: C:\Windows\Minidump folder.
If you see any .dmp files, zip all of them, and attach zipped file to your next reply.
minidump is empty... Go Start>Run ("Start Search" in Vista), type in:
sfc /scannow
Click OK (hold CTRL, and SHIFT, hit Enter in Vista).
Have Windows CD/DVD handy.
If System File Checker (sfc) will find any errors, it may ask you for the CD/DVD.
If sfc won't find any errors in Windows XP, it'll simply quit, without any message.
In Vista you will receive the following message: "Windows resource protection did not find any integrity VIOLATIONS".

I am looking for a reasonably priced way to get Microsoft Access 2003 on my home PC so I can get a head start on learning it for work. I am running MS Office 2003 Standard. MS Access 2007 is easy to find and reasonably priced but we are using 2003 at work and the files are not compatible in both directions. I located a source on the WEB where I can buy a download of 2003 ( <SPAM link removed> ) but I am not sure if doing that is legit. Is this a legal way to buy the software, will it probably run OK and has anyone dealt with this company before?

SteveI would definitely not buy from that site. Chances of getting prirated/illegal sofware are very high, and the software would cause problems for you.

A much better option would be to go to ebay and get Office 2003 Professional. As far as I know, Access 2003 was not sold separately, so you need to get the full Office suite. You can purchase Access separately (http://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-Access-2003-OLD-VERSION/dp/B0000AZJV4) but for that price, you may want to just go ahead and purchase the full Office Professional 2003.Thanks for the feedback.

What the torrent software does if find people all over the world who are uploading the file you are trying to download. They are called Seeders. The more seeds you have, the more people are uploading the file, the faster your download will be.
So if there are no or little seeds, the file will not download.

Hi, I hope I'm putting this in the right PLACE, I'm pretty computer stupid for a lack of a better term. I am running windows xp with AOL 9.0 and McAfee security center. The problem I have is when I try to log into, for example, ebay, myspace, pretty much any site that asks for a username and password. They work on any other computer just not mine. I recently got a new modem and I was able to log into these sites for a few days but now it's back to acting up again. I have deleted my history and cookies as I have seen on other posts for similar problems but with no change. I tried to use internet explorer but i can't get to any sites at all with that. Whichever I try I get a screen that tells me that I'm not connected to the internet although I can surf on AOL. This is GETTING incredibly frustrating for me but now it's affecting my KIDS and their research for homework and what not. If anybody can help me out it would be hugely appreciated by all of us. I think I about covered everything and hopefully I didn't miss ANYTHING. Thank you very much in advance.

Can anyone help me in getting a dictionary installed in my Word software.

It first said, Can't FIND the msspell3.dll or mssp232.dll file, so I downloaded the msspell3.dll file and now Word is telling me that it can't find the mssp3??.lex file? It's showing in C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Proof folder.

I'm running XP and Office XP Small Business.

MickyIt'd probably be more worth it to just do a complete and FRESH re-install of Microsoft Office.. or at least just Microsoft Word. Funny you should say that, as I was trying different things, I decided to change/repair Office and seen I didn't install the Proofing Tools, aggghhhhh.....

Thansk.The system and system32 folders and their subfolders contain the core operating system files crucial for Windows to be able to run properly. Be very careful when dealing with files found here. Some of the files here include drivers, fonts used by windows, windows CONFIGURATIONS, policies, etc.

Also be aware that malicious software figures these folders to be a great hiding spot as most people are too afraid to venture into the belly of their computer systems.

It has Windows Home XP on it, 160GB storage and 1GB memory. I realise it doesn't have a cd/dvd drive so am thinking of getting a LG slimline external DVD RW drive with Lightscribe as I am a singer and record and print my own cds regularly.

Does anyone know if USING these 2 together it would be possible to:
Download Photoshop (and lots of simpler) software onto the netbook?
Watch DVDs and listen to cds?
Add extra memory to speed up the processor?

I know these might seem obvious questions, so thank you for your patience!

Please Help !! media center keeps popping open all the time on my laptop. I have tried disabling it but then the window POPS up telling me the program can not open, this is just as annoying. I do not use this and would not care if it was removed but I do not see it in my programs and also do not want to remove if it will affect anything else. I've been recording streams from a radio station so I MAY listen to them at a later date for over a YEAR now , no problem up until a couple weeks ago. Now when I click on record , it shows it is recording, yet when I go to playback it will only play a couple minutes then nothing, its like it stopped yet the recording timer is still moving. I have Windows xp sp3 and i installed Hotspot shield from anchorfree website. I tried it the first day and it worked fine, everytime i entered the shortcut on my desktop, it opened a new browser window or tab and it said i was connected. ok guys here is a tough one. my objective is to go back to acronis home 11 (acronis 2009 is newer and is giving me problems like not backing up after i CLICK FINISH. or not backing up at all unless i boot with the boot media. same things with restoring.)

- so i uninstall acronis 2009, then i reboot.

- 1st attempt to install home 11 version i get a message saying there is a newer version still!

- so i use the uninstall tool online (not specific to this program it just searches for left over registry entries and removes them with a FORCE remove option. i then reboot.

- 2nd try to install home 11 i get a message saying there is a newer version still!

- now im pis_ed HEH so i look for the manual STEPS to uninstall it from the registry and i found them ! ok cool.....no not cool they did not work here is the link to the manual steps (about 20 of them that i completely did with no errors)

i have a backup file with 2009 before the original uninstall....i restored my pc to that then tried again and still no go....so i tried to call acronis and i must of got a jerk because he said "well you probably will have no choice to re-install windows"

Can someone help I have the above software installed and I wanted to take the Photographs off a Camera Card using a Card reader and put them ONTO a DVD but I could nor find a way to do it... I did manage to get two photos onto the disc by Drag and Drop but each TIME it CLOSED down my Computer it seems one does not work with the other and when I used the create a disc from WITHIN Elements I got the Message ... to create a disc first you NEED a Rewrite on your computer.

Currently, my Outlook email is opening up when I open Outlook. I really need it to open the CALENDAR up first instead. How do I set that as default instead of the email when I open Outlook?

I am not SURE where to post this question because i could not find the section. i am curious on what to do for a friend that is trying to block his isp from finding out that he is downloading. he has recieved his 2nd notice regarding another game he has downloaded. he needs a different program then the one he is currently using. he has tried a more up to date version also.

the program he is using is [Name Removed] it masks his ip address by giving him a different one.

it advertises annonymous surfing but i believe someway his isp (or the company they use) are seeing through the fake ip address.

QUESTION 2: what should he do to ensure he does not get a letter and more importantly does not get his internet shut off?

now just for thought: i know another person that does download also and he has verizon. not once has he got a letter.

my friend who has recieved a letter 2 times has cox. now cox says they dont monitor but they have another company do it for them most likley.

I'm trying to add music to my PowerPoint presentation and I almost have it working right, but having a problem with a couple things on it. The music doesn't seem to WANT to continue playing all through the whole slide show. It starts playing on the 1st slide but then stops.
I think it may have something to do with the settings, but I'm not sure what it is I need to have MARKED and not marked.
Also, since I'm going to have to be wiping out my harddrive due to SPYWARE and all, is there a way to backup the PowerPoint presentation? Do I just save the whole file to a cd? Also, what type of cd's should I be backing things up to? Should it be -RW or -R or does it have to be the ones with +?

I have just spent three days downloading a video file someone had split, and upon rejoining the ten parts using HJ SPlit, trying to open the zip file I get this error

Extracting worldcup.avi Error: CRC mismatch in file "worldcup.avi" in the archive "D:\\Unfinished\worldcup[1].rar"

I wonder there is a split/rejoin program that can fix CRC mismatches? Or is there anything else I can do to open this .avi?

I run WinXP SP3, used Winzip 11.1, all ten parts have the same filename e.g. worldcup.rar.001, worldcup.rar.002 etc.

CRC error usually means, that one of those partial files are corrupt. I'm not aware of any way to fix it.Ain't gonna happen...there is not a program that can correct/join the files as it has no way of KNOWING what is missing.
Start Over.I've had enough bad experience with HJSplit in the PAST to offer you this advice. If you find any download links that end with 001, 002, 003, etc. and there's no .RAR as a suffix, just walk away.

HJSplit may be useful with smaller files, but when it comes to huge ones, it is disasterous, SIMPLY because it doesn't do CRC check. What it does with all your split files is it does this stupid, rudimentary joining. And data error happens quite a lot these days with Rapidshare and Megaupload servers. With a program LIKE RAR, at least you can find out which parts are corrupted, and go back to download them. With HJSplit you are SOL.

OK maybe some one can tell me why it decides it want to crash my media players when i play a video or movie file.

When I play .mpg and .mpeg files I have been getting a "GREEN" screen using both Windows Media Player and VLC, although the sound still COMES through. I have tried downloading a few codec packs.

Also Youtube videos come through with video but no sound.
