ok well i setup up outlook xp to access my HOTMAIL account and i KNOW that everything is setup right...
everytime i go to hit the send and recieve button. it goess to CONNECT to the hotmail server and then keeps telling me that my USER name or pasword is wrong and it isnt...it used to work and now it DOESNT..i know that the password is right cause when i go to the hotmail website it all works just not through outlook

With hotmail now you have to subscribe to get the emails sent to your own personal email program.

Anyone else having problems with it?Compared to what? IE? Not even close. What problems have you had? I know it carries with it rendering errors on some sites, but...It has already been updated to iron out some bugs.

The beauty of the Open Source Software movement. Beat that, Microsoft.I gotta admit im having some minor issues. For example i got to click hyperlinks twice ( doesnt irritate me but.... ) Oh also its started not loading some pages. Gotta F5 it and then reloads it.. None of theese bother me but i thought i would point it out. It is MUCH slower on most pages. Even text pages. Some pages it never loads. Ironically, even in its own help forum. Particular, all of its diagnostic pages. (Of course, that server could be crashing under the weight of all the people using it all of a sudden!)

Even in its help forum, the mods are saying, "Well, if you want to look at Yahoo pages, you should use IE"!

My home "page" is six tabs. Only ONCE since "upgrading" have all six loaded correctly. That NEVER happened before.

And even after you quit, it still shows up in Task Manager - Processes.

I really really like 1.0.7. But right now the only thing 1.5 has over IE is that it's not IE.What are your system specs? You might not be ABLE to run FF with that many tabs going at once. Please include:

Operating system
CPU
Hard drive size (needed so we know if your cache is too small)
Memory
Anything else that might be helpfulYeah, but the point is it USED to work, before "UP"grading.

The problem became known to me 2 days ago. I play an internet game http://www.silkroadonline.net/ witch recently updated its security system with nProtect Game Guard ( It is successfully keeping me from playing so I guess it works Ha Ha ) at first I thought it was just a question of re installing the program but after a couple of tries it became apparent that it was not the caus of the problem nProtect was still unable to Connect to the server and I was still getting Error 380 from nProtect. So I reinstalled my Wireless LAN driver but no still the same problem on the end of my wits I tried to run it wit the help of my old Dial up modem and I succeeded the error did not acure. After a bit of poking around the internet I was left to believe that my Wireless LAN (trough witch I get my internet) was blocking the needed channels after contacting them they claimed they are not blocking any channels but they say that perhaps the channel gets blocked at my local provider but for this purpose they need to know EXACTLY witch

PS: I have TESTED my own firewall it is not the cause of the problem

How can I learn witch channels the nProtect program is using and are blocked?

I would be weary happy about any kind of help.

A couple of days ago a friend of mine was over he wanted to download some stuff of the internet and I was not present at the time but he knows his way around PC so I thought no problem right. Well apparently he activated my Proxy server witch I keep deactivated because it has bin causing me only PROBLEMS. I make a lot of "mix" CDs, which means I use the WAV format a lot.

If I use a store-bought CD, and rip it in Windows Media Player, the file gets "tagged" with artist name, album name, track number, etc.

But I don't like WMP.

AND, I have LOTS of files ALREADY on my hard drive that are WAV files.

And when they copied over, the files did NOT get tagged. Just the name of the file.

I have gone into Media Monkey and edited - adding artist name, album name, etc. But that information then doesn't show up in any other player - WMP, any of Roxio's stuff, DBPower Amp, you name it.

I have downloaded EVERYTHING I can find to try to fix this. There are hundreds of Tag editors for MP3s, but seemingly none for WAVs.

Many, many, many times a file's genesis is Vinyl=>CD-RW, CD-RW=>WAV. But I would really like to be able to capture all the information.

Any suggestions on a small app that will allow me to edit, and then save, the ID TAGS for a WAV file?wav files do not contain id3 tags as such - it is possible to append non-music data to a wave file, and this data can consist of fields. From memory, Cool Edit could display and edit these fields. No idea if the data was preserved and converted to id3 tags if the file was converted to mp3. The two formats are not logically compatible.

You could investigate MXPlay and CDEx - from a cursory glance it looks as though they may be able to examine that information. Otherwise, try googling for "wav header". Note that this non-audio data is usually specific to the program that created the wav file in the first place - so that's where you should be looking.Thanks. I've spent a few hours installing every piece of software I could find, only to COME to the same conclusion.

I have an excel spreadsheet set up CONTAINING formulas and collapsed rows. I can protect my formulas in the columns and then protect the sheet. People can then work on the areas that are not protected. However there doesn't seem to be a way to uncollapse the rows without unprotecting the sheet. WOULD really appreciate any HELP.hi Patches -- Different versions of Excel offer this feature.
For example, I am using Excel 2003, and it provides these kinds of features. I also have Excel 2000, which has some more limited protection features, but not as sophisticated as in Excel 2003.

We have OFFICE 2000 running in the office computer and recently I've notice a bunch of Adobe PDF HEADINGS in the Outlook 2000 toolbar. I can seem to REMOVE these and was wondering if any of you guys or gals would know. I ATTACHED a link below to a picture of what I'm talking about.

Is this a virus? I'm trying not to have to UPGRADE to Office XP because we have a Customer Database Program that needs to run on MS Access 2000.

I have Outlook 2002 with SP3 I have searched Microsoft for answer and google for answer but can't find any a friend suggested I ask here.

Is there any way to set up Outlook 2002 to have different signatures for different accounts (I do not meaning DIGITAL Signatures/Certificates) but text that is auto added to the end of the email DEPENDING on which accout I am using to send the email?
Open Outlook Help and search on "Insert a signature in a message". I'm looking at the info for Outlook 2003 which states you can use a different signature for each e-mail account. Most likely, Outlook 2002 has the same feature.i tried that it only works for all emails i want a different ONE for each acct guess i will just keep it the way i am i have files for the sigs and just upen them copy and paste them into the emailsThat's one of the deficiencies of Outlook really. If I'm working with multiple email accounts, I use Thunderbird, because it HANDLES them much more intelligently.I would change over to that in a sec if i could figure out how to transfer everything ie old messages/rules/digital signiture/email accts ect...If you use IMAP mail accounts, you don't need to transfer messages over. Ok, Installed Norton System Works 2005 last week. I think i accidently left some old Norton updates installed. Well yesterday morning I went to download my updates, it prompted me to restart my computer so I did, it restarted and then got to the page that asks me which user and then I clicked on my name and then it shut down. Well finally I figured out that my PROBLEM is that I didn't uninstall all of my old Norton software. (I think that is my problem) So I was told by a guy at the computer fixing place to uninstall it, but I can only Start in safe mode and the Add/Remove programs won't let me uninstall in safe mode. I don't want to have to take my computer in and pay SOMEONE to do something I can do if someone will just talk me through it. PLEASE for the love of God can someone tell me what to do? Go to startup and if norton is in the startup TAB then uncheck it and restart.

The latest version is 7.0.7. the issue i have is to down load shockwave player!!!!!Why don't you try this: go to http://www.shockwave.com/ and start playing a game; then when the message appears informing that you need to download the last version of shockwave, do it.

It worked for me with EVERY new shockwave version.The latest version of shockwave is 10. Perhaps you did actually download it, and just thought you downloaded Acrobat. Try finding the file and installing it.

Went thru defrag steps (START, PROGRAMS, etc.), slected drive to defrag, clicked, progress box appeared, then stopped. Couldn't X out, close, or anything. Now, the same thing happens every time I try to defrag. Box appears, little blocks start to fall, then nothing...frozen.
Any ideas?

48%? Eeeek! :From my experience the defragmentation of Windows is pretty useless and very buggy ! I use 0&0 Defrag.... it's the best defrag program I know up until now ! U can try it ! :-)The next time I want to spend $45 for a defrag program I will sure keep them in mind. Quote

I am trying to do a split function in Access. I have over 80,000 rows of data and one of the columns have part number such as XXXX-XXXXX-XXX and I want to split that column into 3 columns. I am told that there is a split function in access 2000 and above but I can't find it in my access .. is it an add in??? Lost in SPACE and office time.....a socket SET is more in my line.......

Looking at your example, your query should include Left([partno],4), next field Mid([partno],6,5) assuming you don't want the dashes and a final field of Right([partno],3).

I really think you should either visit a MAJOR library, if you have access to one, and checkout one or more videos or books on Outlook. Or, buy a book: see what BARNES & Noble has on Outlook. Seems I have an endless stream of computer software queries, but hopefully as I get solutions they will be of value to others reading the forum. I have been inserting various signatures in my e-mails. Included in these would typically be two images - one being a logo and the other an image depicting products. I MADE these signatures in outlook 2003 SP2. I was just made aware by my ISP that the images get seen by no one, even THOUGH they are visible in my e-mails as they are sent out, because the images are only STORED locally on my computer. They say there needs to be a web based link in order for them to display on recipient computers. Is this correct? The Character Map is found via Start, All Programs, Accessories, System Tools. Once you open the Character Map, select the Wingdings 3 "Font". In my system, the Enter symbol is on the second row, 4th from the left.

This will get you the symbol to copy into to Word. However, I get the impression you think using the replace command as you mentioned will actually have the same effect as hitting the Enter key. I haven't tried this, but I doubt very much that it's going the work that way. All this going to do is exactly the Replace command is normally used for; it's going to replace whatever you specify to be replaced, but that's all. In other words, just using the Enter symbol in your Replace command is not going to execute the Enter key at those points.

I was given a old HP Pavillon 6640 with a fried hard drive. I have replaced the hard drive, but don't have the recovery disks. HP doesn't make them anymore... Does someone know where I can find them or does someone have the three disk set and could make a copy..

Thanks D Just install an OS and locate the relevant drivers for it. Do you REALLY want all that HP crap on it?It would be hard to find the right CDs... They will only work with a specific model. Not just any HP CD will work. It might be hard to find your specific ONE :-/

FlameWas told that I could load WinXp and the generic drivers would work for cd writer, however my computers are preloaded and I don't have a XP disc. Most everyone I know is the same way and those that have XP, I know won't lend it to me. I have tried ebay, but they don't have the right ones for sale. Guess I am gonna have to just keep looking around.
D Maybe Windows 98 or even (uggh!) ME would be better. What are the specs on the machine - processor, RAM? That will make you decision for you.

Whoops, I just checked and that has a K62-500 processor and came standard with only 64 meg RAM and cannot upgrade beyond 384 meg. Win98SE for sure. Get a copy off eBay.

CD writers don't need drivers but you will need a burning program such as Nero.Do NOT switch to ME. By the way, I'm not sure if someone loaned you the XP CD that it would help either. The security device might stop you :-/ If you need drivers for your CD Burner, go to the burner manufacturer's website and download them there. If you got them from HP, chances are, they will be old drivers anyway.

FlameOr get a copy of XP Home strip it down with nLite and add the full amount of RAM. It might even work as I've seen people run a Lite version of XP on less.

Take out system restore, pchealth, screensavers, wallpapers, moviemaker and all the stuff you don't need hardware wise plus all the stuff you don't need software wise.

You could even try taking out IE along with Windows update and use Belarc Advisor to check the state of your hotfixes and direct you to the IT Professionals downloads so you don't need to use the automatic Windows Update.

I have not check the memory amount, but when I checked with HP, they told me that XP would work on it and that all the generic drivers would be there. I probably will just go with win98, just gonna use it as a computer for some very old games that I have and the like.

When I attempt to open a FILE which has been E-mailed to me, a box appears stating that the file is locked for editing by 'another user'. No one else that I know has this problem, can you help me? What can be dangerous if I want to create new partition from 40 GB NTFS DISK with 30 GB free space using Partition Magic?

It's one of those things that's great when it works (Sometimes DEPENDS on the user and how familiar they are with partitioning) it's OK, but when it screws up, you can be hosed.The only time you should use partitioning tools on a HDD is if you have a backup image of that drive or if you are preparing a new drive to be added to a system...

Third party partition tools claim they can move/resize/shrink existing partitions without data loss but there are also a few NY bridges that are for sale pretty cheap as well.

I would suggest grabbing a library book and reading up on PM. It is a very good tool if used properly and it takes a little bit of a learning curve to use but overall a good program.

Perhaps I'm using an older version of the product (v8.01) but I have no complaints. I have partitioned many machines with excellent results. Yes, the learning curve can be daunting, but anybody with half a wit and a little knowledge of what disk partitioning is really all about should have no problems.

When I watch it with Cyberlink POWERDVD, I couldn't choose the language CHANNEL. The OPTION is unavailable.

We have just upgraded our network once again in this office. Why things are fixed when they ain’t broke is beyond me.

Our office is using XP Professional (networked).

I SHARE an HP4050 Laserjet with one other assistant. This printer has three trays. For some reason the printer will not allow me to print anything in trays 2 and 3 (bottom, middle) but will only allow me to print from the top tray. When I attempt to CHANGE the paper settings to the different trays, 2 error messages : 1. The selected paper size cannot be used with the current tray. The paper SOURCE setting will be CHANGED to Tray 1; 2. The selected paper tray cannot be used with the current paper size.

I have been able to get the printer to work in Outlook, Adobe, Paperport, MSWord - but not in WP11.

Does any one have any step by step instructions which I can use to get this to work.

As indicated - it was working before this upgraded network, but it is not now.

I am an inexperienced computer user and had my Dell computer recently updated by adding a new hard drive and more memory. Since I CHANGED the hard drive and am not running the old one as a slave, I no longer have my Microsoft Word.

So I downloaded Openoffice. But I can't FIGURE out how to print envelopes.

Word is not a component of Windows 98, so it wouldn't be on that CD.

The Word must have been factory installed, I'm thinking. But I'm getting used to Openoffice - slowly but surely. Thank you again, DRI am very happy to have found your website - it's so filled with information. DROpen Office is an adequate substitute. The only problem I have had with it was on spreadsheets that were heavily formatted imported improperly. I know the new version (2.0) is just around the corner. The betas have been out for a while.

Word doesn't come with Windows, but maybe it was some sort of "bundle deal" when you got your machine. It's pretty expensive to buy, compared to OpenOffice which is free, as you know.

What kind of Dell do you have? I have found the ones for late 98 - 2000 to have been exceptionally durable.

Anyhow, welcome aboard and feel free to post answers as well as questions.

Does anyone know how to MAKE it so that when you close Outlook, it closes the Window, but they tray icon will stay so I can still Send and Receive messages?

Hi, what's the reason for a program BECOMING slow after having being IDLE for a LONG time, even there is sufficient memory to use and not other programs running during the "idle period" (and no SCREEN saver)?Perhaps the hard drives have powered down to SAVE energy? I've just uploaded a bunch of avi files through VIDEO factory. everything worked FINE for about a week but now when I open the files it will only open the audio part of it. I've DOWNLOADED the latest windows media player, and real player. I can't open the files in Premiere because it can't recognise them. And when I open them in video factory I only get an audio track. It won't even let me burn them to disc as it won't recognise the file. This has happened to every AVI file on my pc. I used my ipod and moved some of the files to another computer and they worked fine (so they are not corrupted). The only thing I uploaded during the week was some other video clips, (quicktime, MP4) and they work fine. Does anyone have any ideas what happened? The avi extension is a "cover all" for a whole host of differently encoded filetypes. A small utility called, and I kid you not, G-Spot will analyse avi files and return their actual encoding method.thanks again for the info. I downloaded g-spot and it basically said the files were cool as an AVI file. yet they still won't open with premiere or video factory. i tried them with NERO and it worked fine. I'm thinking my copies of video factory and premiere might be busted and might just reinstall them.

dl65 WinAT is not as easy to use as the Task Scheduler - that's one of the reasons why MS introduced the Task Scheduler. It also has less features. That said, the Task Scheduler is not that great either, when you compare it for example with cron on Unix/Linux systems... COMMERCIAL crons are available for Windows, but I've yet to STUMBLE across a free one.Quote

I use eMule v0.46c to download music, but the problem is that whenever I start it up and connect, my internet starts failing shortly afterward. I have wireless internet and whenever I try to use eMule the connection fails and comes back and fails again and comes back. I don't know what the cause is or how to fix it.

And lots of problems were found and dealt with. As I posted in another thread, the only unresolved problems were 4 trojans (dialer 23) which could not be removed as they were part of files.

I will run it again in safe mode then remove my firewall and see if my eMule actually works.

ive just downloaded some pictures (jpeg) and i cant get them to load in any program so i want to deleate them but when i highlight them and press deleate my PC just SORT of ignors me
