I am trying to LOAD some new software. When I put in the CD I get the following error message "operations canceled DUE to restricitions in effect on this computer. Please contact your system administrator". I got no ideas on this one as I am my own administrator.

Any thoughts?DeathNebula.....You neglected to mention qhich O/S your using ....... But by your description , it sound like like your account doesn't have full ADMIN rights ....... Check your USER account and see if there are any limitations .....


dl65 I am sorry....I'm runnin XP....and I do have full admin rights.....I have loaded other software on this PC no problem.....I've seen some other threads on the NET but they all address this issue from an Internet lin perspective....not a software load issue...

Have you tried creating a new user with full admin rights and tried loading ?

Foolishly I downloaded some junk music software about two months ago and messed about with it. Now all my music files sound as if they are being sung by the Munchkins. I tried VARIOUS things like altering the pitch down one OCTAVE but though the voices sounded about right, this resulted in the music dropping one octave too. Aaargh!

I also tried reloading Windows XP but that didn't help because it kept my altered settings instead of reloading the original.

Does anyone know the name of the file which holds the pitch settings? If I can find out, I think I could possibly get it off another PC and save it over my EXISTING one.

Alternatively, if someone knows how to change the settings for pitch back to the original FACTORY ones that would be great too.

Thanks for your help!When you reloaded Windows, I suspect you just loaded it over the top, rather than a format and clean install. Correct?I used the Microsoft System Restore. I didn't do the complete restore because I have 5000 photos on my hard drive and didn't want to lose them.

I don't really want to back them all up right now because a lot can be deleted, so I am hoping for an easier solution than formatting and reloading the software.

I also have tried the option where you go back to a restore point, but after showing me the possible dates I can go back to, my PC won't actually allow me to restore any of them.If this all started from downloading & running some software I'd do some scans just to be sure.

I use Word as my Outlook email editor. Using "ENTER" for a new paragraph produces a blank line before the new line. This seems to be a function of "SPACE before" in the format paragraph menu. When I change this space before to "0", I get what I want but the next time I use outlook space before has "AUTO".

This is a computer problem FORUM not a share conversityNope. I don't program in VB.Try Sidewinder in the Programming forum. Google turned up very LITTLE on this subject. What are you trying to do? You could try TAPI which is a bit complex. Google SUGGESTED writing a wrapper class for TAPI to handle the low level TAPI functions and instantiating an object for the high level VB code.

I'm currently using Roxio my dvd 8 for burning DVDs, but it takes like 12 hrs to burn a disk (viewable on dvd players) thats 4.7 meg.

I was curious if ANYONE ELSE has this problem with this program and/or give me some advice on how to make it faster or just give me the name of a good program that you use.

I just updated my NVIDIA display driver and found that I now have the ability to TURN the GUI through 90° as you can see in the screen-shot...

Unfortunately the mouse then becomes almost impossible to control.

Does anyone know of a way to get the mouse to behave properly in this orientation? NVIDIA?

What I would like is to have a Word composition screen that is upright instead of being on a screen that resembles a television set.

If the MARGINS could be outside of the composition area it should be possible to fit the entire page on the screen so as to avoid scrolling.

- theoretically you can modify any mouse to behave 90 degrees off. Switch the output connections between the horizontal and vertical output pins of the mouse. This could be done to the internal circuit or the connector (not the PC). A mechanical ball and roller type would probably be the easiest.

- I wouldn't recommend this for anyone unless you have (and understand) the mouse schematic and you feel competent in changing the wiring. (disclaimer for others)

Of course the mouse will be useless for anything else unless you change back or add a switch to revert to your former connection.

I recently bought a Digital Satellite Tv card (Twinhand DTV Sat-Express),and it is working
very well technically ...the problem am having is that the captured scesnes are installed as MPEG2 format
which is inconvinient to me because i WANT to convert the scenes to VCD so that the VCD player
can read it ...i tried to encode and burn the scenes on Nero but the outcome sound of
the scenes was chopped when i played it back on the VCD...i also encoded it using Cyberlink Power DIRECTOR Pro v3.0.1110 but the
encoded scene had a sound delay...encoding it using Video Studio 8
worked perfectly but the only problem is that it takes a very long time to encode a scene...say if there
is a 30 min scene,it will take 45 min for VS to encode it...am using XP SP2 ...

any help will be great ...

urban legend.....You may want to consider replacing the VCD player with one that will read MPEG2 .......They arent a whole lot of money and will save you hours of encoding.

- Another option is to write in SVCD format on CD. These can usually be read by the same players as VCDs. Since it is also mpeg-2, converting and burning should be much QUICKER. SVCD video bit rate (2500 kbps) is lower than DVD formats (6000 kbps), but higher than VCD (1152 kbps)

I use Video Studio too and it works. But, as you say, it takes more time. (un)Fortunately, I have lots of that!

We're thinking of getting IPODs for our KIDS but am stumped about which would be the BEST IPOD for it's VALUE? They (2) really don't need anything bigger than 500 songs (plenty) of space. Even though IPODS are from Apple , they do seem to MAKE a better music MP3 player. Any suggestions as to other MP3 players out there that might rival Apples'??I hate to admit it, but the IPOD is the best way to go. The rest have more issues, however, don't look at Apple products as a vacation... :-/ For teh IPOD that will hold 500 songs, just go for the smallest amount of memory in the IPOD as you can get... It think they sell a 1 GB one... Plenty of space...

I've seen plenty of UTILITIES that can make an animated GIF that advance at a PRESET speed. Is it possible to make one that you advance manually, much like a slideshow on MANUAL? I need it to be playable in the browser.
RickNot possible within the animated gif specification. Instead you could preload individual gif files and use javascript to "advance" them.That would be a bit much for what I had in mind. All I wanted was to insert a series of screen captures (firewall alerts and the connection status screen) into a forum post as a single image that the reader could advance manually. Most of them don't allow HTML in a post. I doubt they'd permit Javascript. I suppose I could set it to a much lower speed so they'd all be readable. Is there another format that would do this and display in a browser? Some form of slideshow possibly?

This is one I posted at the AntiVir forum to show how their updater is starting duplicate system processes(schedm.exe). This one doesn't repeat. Have you checked in the BIOS to make sure that the CD DRIVE is before the hard drive in the boot list?michelle,

If you still have your original setup MANUAL, find the SECTION for troubleshooting "Computer will not start."

It will give you basic step-by-step instructions including using your Restore/Recovery Disk (if NECESSARY).

I use Windows XP Home and Office 2000 Professional. Every once in a while, a window pops up and says Microsoft Explorer is trying to configure Microsoft Office 2000, or something like that. Then I always get this error message: Error 1919, Error configuring ODBC data source: MS Access Database, ODBC error 6; Component not found in registry. Verify that the file MS Access Database exists and that you can access it. After I retry with no success, I click ignore and a similar error appears but the ODBC data source is dBASE files and it wants me to verify that the file dBase files exists and can access it. I ignore that one and ANOTHER similar error appears but the ODBC data source is Excel files and it wants me to verify that the file Excel files exists and can access it. Then another with ODBC data source: FOXPRO Database and to verify Visual FoxPro Database exists and can access it. Then yet another with ODBC data source: dBase files-Word and to verify that the file dBase files-Word exists and can access it. I'm SORRY if the following is going to SOUND silly or not enough information has been provided:

Basically I have 5 bits of hardware taking up ATA space. Floppy, Zip drive, DVD drive and CDRW drive. PLUS a 20GB hard disc. This is partioned into two: C & D.

Two years ago I had a 80GB Seagate Barrcuda drive installed and had to get an extra card to accomodate this drive. I've had to format C disc due to a some awful ad-ware making is way onto the disc.

Suprise suprise the 80gig disc is goneski's. It pops up in the boot sequence where I can configure something by pressing F3, but its no help.

having issues with uninstalling QUICKBOOKS. inherited computer with quickbooks installed, actually more than one copy. add/remove from control panel, and UNINSTALL from ccleaner and uruninstaller don't find the PROGRAM to uninstall but all intuit files are still in the program file directory. i don't want to just wipe them out and i can't reinstall the program (disks and serial number long gone). any ideas would be much APPRECIATED....oh yeah...PII with win 98 installed...Can't understand why you don't want to wipe out the Intuit files, SEEMS logical now that the program is a goner.

I Googled for quickbooks uninstall and got 280k+ hits, mebbe one of them will give you an answer on one of the forums.

Remeber to USE your specific settings and connection type. Not sure about multiple accounts, but after you have one set up, try these steps again. It will let you know if it cannot handle more than 1 account.

yeah the "from, to, recieved"..are called field columns.

right click on any one of them
select "field Chooser" from the drop down
in the field chooser box select all mail fields from arrow list.
then click and drag whichever field you want to the column bar.

This is probably basic knowledge but I cant figure it out or find it in questions and answers - so:

If there is a multi page document on the Internet that is not numbered on screen (SAY 30 pages) and I want to print particular pages (say pp20-1) can I quickly get to them directly without guessing roughly where they are and keying back and forth till I find them via Print Preview?

The short answer: not really.

The long answer: I've heard that the beta version of IE 7 has a highly improved print engine, and it may be that this will solve your problem. In the meantime, just copy and PASTE the web page (or the section of the web page you want to print) into your favourite word PROCESSOR.

We have our NETWORK to lock you out on 5 attempts. When you log into the network, all is well. When you log onto Outlook and mis-type your PASSWORD 1 time and then re-type it correctly, the network locks you out in only 1 attempt. Does anyone know what can be causing this or a fix for this? When we LOOK at it when its happening on the network it appears it starts out at 4 attempts and then it jumps to 5 attemps when the user only tried logging in 1 time. Here is part of the log:

Hi, this is my first post and I am having some problems with the MAIL merge feature in Outlook and hope somebody can give me some help with it.

I am running exchange 2003 and I have Microsoft Outlook open with me (MATT Banks) as the default mailbox, I also have ADDED another mail box which is our Newsletter mailbox. I want to create a MAILMERGE so that the information sent in the email is sent from the newsletter mailbox but everytime the merged email is sent it has been sent by Matt Banks EVEN though I am using the contacts in the Newsletter mailbox. Can anybody help with this at all?

Someone, please help me - this is my last hope! I am having a problem with my Outlook Express. Thanks!Sounds like a faulty OE INSTALLATION. You probably need to reinstall. Better yet, ditch OE and either get the full blown version of Outlook, or if you want something for free try Thunderbird.Tick the 'Save COPY of sent messages in the sent items folder' box.

Is there a way to have an existing document open at the BOTTOM or end of the document rather than at the top or BEGINNING?

I have a very long document that I continue to add to and each time I open it I have to page down to the end. I am aware that I can execute a "GO TO A PAGE NUMBER" but I would have to remember from one session to the next how many pages there are in the document. Sometimes there are days when I don't work on the document so I don't always remember how many pages I have.I don't know about a preset for this, but if you press the End key while holding down the Ctrl key, that will do the trick.Isn't there page indicator like 45/125 at the lower left hand corner? I was printing addresses on envelopes when I LOST the "Tools" command BUTTON on the main MENU bar for Word 2000. Could not fix it so I deleted the program and INSTALLED MS Office 2003. when I opened MS Word 2003, the "Tools" button is not there either. I use my CONTACT folder extensively. It used to search (find) email addresses in the contact form to link to a contact where I didn't have a name associated with it. After doing a re-install, it won't search the email field for addresses entered into it. Thanks.This one must be tough since there is no answer yet?When you've typed part of the name in the To/CC/BCC field, try pressing Ctrl+K. Does that find the contact details?

If this doesn't work, find the Contacts folder. Right click on it and choose Properties. Click on the Outlook ADDRESS Book tab. Ensure that "SHOW this folder as an e-mail address book" is checked.I think you are on to something. If I open a new message to compose and put part of the email address in, if there is a name associated with it, it finds the name of the person, if there is one, when I do the Ctrl+k, but if I want to make changes to my Contact information, I have to make the extra steps to go back and FORTH between the inbox and contact. Also, some emails don't have a name associated with them and so it doesn't find those through this approach.

I checked the properties as you suggested. It is checked but faded out so it can't be unchecked. The Name of address book line has Contacts in it.

I am having difficulty getting anything to print from MS Word. I have an HP 712c printer, which prints anything from the internet just fine. However, any documents I recieve in Word FORMAT or that we prepare on Word will not print.

The printer will operate as normal, but only very faint outlines of letters can be seen from where the printer tried to print...not readable at all. You can GO directly to anything ELSE on the computer and print the screen, whatever...just no Word documents.

Any recommendations WOULD be very much appreciated. Thank you.Always start by uninstalling and reinstalling the software.Check File-->Print...-->Properties and Paper Size.

I'm running XP Home, v 2002, Service pack 2.
I just UPGRADED from windvd 4 to windvd 7. (powerDVD) It looks impressive but whenever I try to play a dvd I get the message -
"Create Overlay Failed - please lower your screeen resolution and color depth and try again"
I tried that but no luck. I was later told that Messenger could be causing the problem, but I don't have messenger installed.
It's driving me nuts, and I can't even WATCH a nice MOVIE to calm my nerves -
One more thing, I recently also installed "AnyDVD" - could that make a difference, friends say it shouldn't?
I tried running AnyDVD in Windows 98 / me compatibility mode but again, no luck.
All help / advice is very welcome, thanks in advance.
Well guy try this one:
right click on Desktop and select properties then select Setting Tab and press Advanced button. A dialog will APPEAR, select the Troubleshoot tab. Here lower the Hardware acceleration and then try to run DVD again.

I have a panasonic vdr-m75 camcorder I purchased this month to take videos of our NEW daughter. It records on DVD-ram discs. I payed a bundle for it, but wanted to take nice videos of our new daughter to send to our relatives. Today I bought a HP Media Center PC. It has an E drive which has a lightscribe dvd +/- writer / cd writer and an F drive below it with a dvd rom writer. I was hoping to PUT in my camcorder 30 minute dvd-ram disc into the F drive and burn a DVD-R on the E drive of this HP 3800+ PC. I downloaded all the files from the camcorder and anything that came with the HP COMPUTER. So far no luck. Any ideas out there???You will need to check with the manuf. to see if that DVD burner supports DVDRam...
It is a different format.
Perhaps they have a firmware update for the drive that will enable support for DVDRam.

I have all the saved songs in my documents in a folder (some of them have a microphone at the side others have that COLOURED circle for wmp)

There is no special media player
I'll go check that now...

In MS Outlook, can send but not RECEIVE. Tried going to the send/receive settings and then to Define send/receive groups but nothing happens. On other PC's another box pops up. Anybody KNOW what the problem could be.In Outlook, POP3 MAIL server is dealing with sending emails.

Check your POP mail server address. It's the incoming mail server address that gave you your ISP, Web Mail like gmail, yahoo, hotmail etc.

Give more info about your mail server.

You can check your POP from Tools-->Accounts-->Mail tab-->Servers and Properties.

What you have in Incoming Mail (POP3) Server option.

Also check your password and USERNAME.

Hey HI, I found out that someone used my computer today and done some bad thing.
There was some traces left in the recycle bin. So I would like you people to RECOMMEND a freeware/ free program which will prompt you to enter password(s) during the computer startup phase(before it reach the window screen
I'm USING windows 98 SE, apparently, the person doesn't need to enter any password to enter, just by pressing the "Esc" key, it will skip that phase.


I know you will say google is your best friend, but I don't know what to search for.

Read your motherboard manual to find out how to set a BIOS password.

I need to INstall Windows 2000 on my laptop. The laptop has linux on it now, but i do not know the password. If it has linux then you cant install windows on it unless you had partion the hard drive. Also can the CD be booted from the CD ROM or does it have to get into BIOS to run the CD. This ocmputer has PREVIOUSLY had linux INSTALLED, but it APPEARS to be nonfunctioning. What are you trying to LOAD on it? The drive needs to be FDISK'ed, deleted and PARTITION(s) reinstalled.

I am trying to run a report in Microsoft ACCESS 200 using a form with a drop dowm box to select a name in a query.
