i have searched sony's site, and it does have firmware, yet not for my model oddly enough.
i have tried all kinds of media, both expensive and cheap. same error.

I have Ulead photo express on my PC, which I use from time to time. I haven't used it for a while, but now when I double-click the icon or my desktop, or try to start it, in any other way, the egg-timer comes on for a second or two, but then just goes off and nothing ELSE ever happens.

I have reinstalled Ulead photo express, but the same thing happes. I assume it is because of something else I have installed since having Ulead photo express? Is there any way I can get around thing please?

Well I tried that and still no joy.

When I use Merc I get into the hubs but DONT see any mesages nor can I see any method of downloadin files from other USERS. And the search engine dosent find anything.

When I use DC++ I get into the hub and have the option to DL only the connection always times out no matter how the persons file is, thats jusr when ts connecting to a users list, I cant get near the files. Also I can see other peoples messages unlike Merc. But again the search engine finds squat.

However Kazaa and LimeWire work fine.

I've tried disabling Norton, lowering secuurity, enabling p2p connections, and just about anything the help file tells me to do (I changed them back dont worry). I didnt have this problem on my old computer I could just connect to a hub and take what I wanted .Dunno. That's illegal in this country due to DRM. Where are you located? Hopester Doofus is our P2P EXPERT here because he LIVES in Canada. Its not illegal to have program in democratic countries, just to DL copyrighted files.
And technically it is legal to DL and buy pirates from Vietnam (Any country without such laws) as there are no laws against it over there, to arrest someone for that is a direct violation of international law.
And I am from Russia anyway so is okay.

I have been trying to send out a newsletter to a couple of hundred customers (NOT spam!) and set up a distribution list to do it. Upon sending, about 80% came back on an error MESSAGE saying "couldn't find any host named" beside each in a listing of over a 150. My domain server investigated and concluded that it was not their server at fault. So, I tried setting it up as a mail merge so they would go out one at a time. Finally, after a gruesome time doing that I discover that bloody OUTLOOK will not allow you an attachment on a mail merge e-mail! I KNOW MANY of the domains were good and active - like Dow & Dupont. Any thoughts as to why all of these may have been bounced? A workaround for mail merge attachments - I do NOT want to just include a link - I want the pdf to be attached? Another program for e-mailing that is more functional than MS xxxx? But now that you mention many servers kick multiple recipient e-mails, two things to advise:
1) I previously sent this list out through outlook sucessfully the same way for the previous newsletter

2) I get tons of spam - is there a way of blocking based on the domain in the cc.?A listserver is INDEED a program that typically runs on the same program as a mail server. It can provide facilities for users to subscribe and unsubscribe and much more. Your ISP may just provide a basic mailing list FACILITY and that may be sufficient for your purposes. It would be the most successful method of mass-mailing anyway. Your ISP is going to accept its own mail, whereas it may not accept a mass mailing from a server that you yourself are running.

Re 1: it is possible that after this previous mailing, you or your ISP became blacklisted, and that accounts for subsequent problems.

Re 2: yes, certainly. Your ISP should be able to do this. Alternatively, it may provide black/whitelist controls, but they vary so much you'll need to check that out with your ISP.

Outlook can certainly filter out this kind of spam (look up filters in the online help) but better to get it done at the server end. That saves bandwidth.Thanks for your helpful response. May the fates be kind to you!

I use OE6 on two computers and like to copy the address book and account information between them. The trouble I have is always creating DUPLICATE ACCOUNTS and entries in address book.
I've heard that there is a FREE utility out there to DELETE those duplicates.
Has anyone heard the same and do you know where I can find it?

I'm trying to help my dad use his webcam with Yahoo Messenger. We both have them, and we're trying to view each other. My webcam has always worked fine; but he's never able to connect to it. I also can't view his.

We've been through the Yahoo help center trying to figure this out, but I'm not sure what's going wrong. We're both using the same VERSION number, we both have broadband, and mine has worked with other people. He is running Windows XP on a Sony Vaio laptop, with Norton SystemWorks 2005 installed, and his webcam is a Creative Live! cam.

When he tries to connect, he GETS the "Unable to connect-network error" message. When he tries to test the webcam, it tells him "Another instance of YWcUpl is already running". I can't find this error message listed under any of the help topics. Is anyone familiar with these problems, and is there anything someone can tell us to perhaps fix this? I just moved 800 miles and my parents would really like to be able to use the webcams.

[glb]Flame[/glb]He is using whatever came installed with Norton Systemworks 2005 as his firewall. As far as I know, his drivers are installed-he used the installation CD that came with the webcam. The webcam program on its own works, the problems arise when he tries to use it over any instant messaging program-AIM and Yahoo. I can't even get my webcam to work on AIM, so Yahoo is our best bet. Norton SystemWorks 2005 does not come with a firewall... Is he using Windows XP? Service Pack 2? Has he tried playing around with the webcam settings in the Yahoo! Preferences menu?

[glb]Flame[/glb]Yes, he's using XP with Service Pack two, and we've messed with the settings in the Yahoo messenger. I mean, I've done this before with mine, and I know what settings should work....it's just that it's not working for him. I tried to talk to Yahoo's customer support and they were absolutely no help at all, they copied and pasted something from the help section I've been over a hundred times. Well, I'm not sure what the problem is... All I have left to ask you is if the webcam is plugged in, and installed right... Oh, just thought of something else... Does the camera have a light or something that tells you that it is connected and working? (Mine has a little green light that turns on when it is connected) If none of this works, I would have to suggest switching to MSN/Widows Messenger... PERSONALLY, I like MSN/Widnows Messenger more, becuase it offers much better features, etc. It's a free service as well... Give it a shot. Let me know how things work out...

I cannot switch to Winamp MODERN skins. I just updated to 5.11 and it does not allow me an option to switch to Modern skins. Even though I've unchecked the BOX to SEND immediately upon startup in the Options / Mail Setup section of Outlook 2003, it's still sending/receiving immediately upon startup.
Is there a way to fix this?

SpyFalcon anti-Spyware software has somehow downloaded itself and installed, now I can't delete it. I've 'deleted, it about 7 times ALREADY using the add/remove programs METHOD, which seems to have worked until about 20 mins has passed, then it reappears, does a scan etc then tells me I must purchase to remove found spyware.
I'm getting sick of it now and am desperate to get RID of it once and for all.
I suspect I have to do something to the registry but due to the fact that I am a complete idiot I am very worried about messing with the registry.
Please someone help me!

CCleaner is pretty good but it won't get rid of everything. For that you'll need something like Resplendence Registrar.

To get rid of this game, delete it's folder(s), not forgetting any auxilliary folders under user folders or application data etc, reboot and then run CCleaner using it's "Fix Issues" feature.oh quite cool

I need a scheduling solution. Specifically, I'd LIKE to learn if Outlook can duplicate a sequence of events into the APPROPRIATE calendar days when an event happens.

For EXAMPLE, a customer buys our widget. As soon as that sale is made, the associate working with the customer should be able to activate/trigger an event in Outlook which, for the next 11 days would place a "to do" item in their Outlook calendar. Day 1 might say, call them and provide invoice. Day 2 might say, send thank you postcard. Day 3 might say, confirm order will be arriving in 2 days. Day 4 might say, call client and schedule time to go over product when product arrives. ETC.

But these should somehow "automatically" show up for each customer. So I'm trying to systemize these CALLS. And since I work in Outlook, I would like to see if Outlook can offer this.

I am open to ideas. If you'd like further clarification, please let me know.

Hi, I convert my mpeg files to wmv in order to SAVE hard drive space. But, When it's in wmv format the quality is not as good as it was in mpeg. Is there any way I can bring the quality BACK to the way it was originally?That's the tradeoff.The movies do look a little better when I save it as a bigger file size. I save it as a 2.0 mb per SECOND file, and it takes about 20 - 30 megs off of my hard drive.It all depends on what you want. If you want max quality, you can kick up the bitrate of the wmv file, if you want minimum file size, you can drop the bitrate. You'll probably want to find the midpoint where you're the most comfortable, with high quality and small file size. Keep in mind that by dropping the audio bitrate, you can also drop the filesize. Framerate is another big factor in VIDEO files...

If you still can't find the settings you like, you can try other compression methods. I personally like to use DivX or XviD... They both use MPEG-4 (Avi) compression, and can typically store 2 hour movies into 700MB at acceptable quality (Even at really good quality, it'll most likely fit into 2 CDs [1400MB]).Hamudz22,

If you want to save disk space, you could move your video files off the hard drive and save them on CD or DVD. Most current PCs will play them Okay from disk. You could also add more drive space.

If quality is important, I wouldn't recommend conversion. In general, conversion/compressor algorithms REDUCE the quality of any original file.

(it also uses other tones that sound like instruments if you have a newer computer. You can tell its not real. These files are normally small).
I don't think you can convert any audio to MIDI.
If you have Windows, you should be able to find MIDI songs and see what I mean. (in a folder called "Media", the folder that contains system sounds. That is if you want to listen)

It also should depend on the type of wma or mp3 song you want to convert over to midi... If you're trying to convert a song with a VOICE in it with a billion other instruments, give up - you'll never get all that. On the other hand, if it's, say, a piano solo, you probably have a fair chance of CONVERTING the file fairly decently. However, keep in mind that midi files are pretty much just sheet music - they don't retain any sound, just note values. Therefore, when you play the midi, the file won't have the tone or qualities the original had. It'll just use a synthetic instrument (By default a grand piano synthesizer) to play the note values it got from the real audio.Does anybody know Converter to MP3?

I had Sound Forge but I used it to make weird duets.

A few seconds after I completely shutdown/Exit limewire (not just banish to the quickbar) it restarts itself.

This is extremely annoying, and I suspect spyware/virus. The only fix I have found to this problem is uninstalling limewire.
I wan't to keep limewire.

My sister got drunk and deleted the software for her sound card...she bought the computer from a friend 3,000 MILES away, and doesn't have the software for it. We have no sound for anything at all. When we restart, windows says there's some new HARDWARE found, but SINCE there is no software for the sound card, there's nothing we can do! Is there any way we can GET sound back to this thing? Download Everest Home Edition (free at www.lavalys.com) to identify the card. Then you just go get the drivers from the manufacturer's web site.

Where should I start?
I reinstalled my whole computer... deleted everything you can delete and reinstalled WinXP.
Then I noticed that my CD with DRIVERS för all the hardware was somewhat not functional.

I started searching throughout the internet for drivers and I actually found drivers for my motherboard and graphic CARD!! So my comp isn't slow atleast!

But now to the problem... I couldn't find any driver for the soundcard... I checked Intels homepage for it and they didn't have it. emailed them and they still havent responded (They are so RELIABLE.... not). I have googled for over a week now with no result .

My EVEREST says "Audio Adapter Intel 82801FB ICH6 - Azalia Audio Controller". If you guys have any idea on where I can find and download the proper driver for my soundcard it would be mostly APPRECIATED!!

- regardless of where created, you should be able to view the code for each page or frame with your browser or any text editor. Drag and Drop the FILE to your browser - in IE go to View>Source

- for a text editor (WORD, Wordpad, etc.) simply open the file within the program. (make sure you USE all file types when searching for the file in your editor) - dragging and dropping doesn't always work here

I found a solution after a quick search. I don't PRETEND to understand it completely, but this is roughly how it works: SUMPRODUCT() can multiply each item in one array by its CORRESPONDING entry in another array. It then ADDS up the results. The ROW() function returns the number of a row. And you can use the MOD() function to find out whether the number of a row is odd or even, and react accordingly. So - multiply the desired rows by 1 and the undesired rows by 0, and add the results. The double negative ("--") is the bit that I'm not sure I understand - POSSIBLY it casts the TRUE/FALSE into 0 or 1 as appropriate. I'm not an Excel guru...

Anyway, this solution works:

Even: =SUMPRODUCT(--(MOD(ROW(A1:A136), 2)=0), A1:A136)
Odd: =SUMPRODUCT(--(MOD(ROW(A1:A136), 2)=1), A1:A136)Thanks a lot!

I went to Yahoo, and typed in "excel sum even". I'm pretty sure that once you click on the SUM function key you can simply hold down the ctrl key and then click on each cell that you want that function to calculate. Once you have clicked on that last cell just hit enter. Thats how I would do it.
Luciano, that's the "traditional" way to do that.
But most simple "1st level" function available has some limitation.
For example, maximum number of argument is 30, and there is a maximum number of character in whole function.
Therefore, the way we used to use like you describe will not work when we have quite number of arguments.robpomeroy, here is how it works.I see. The value of TRUE casts to -1 in Excel. I'd forgotten that. Not very intuitive, is it?!The guy who worked out the formula actually was just working it out backwards - start with the SUMPRODUCT function. This guy must be very familiar with the Excel functions and array in order to build such formula.

Whenever I open up OUTLOOK 2002 and it does it's send/receive thing, it gets stuck on "synchronizing files" and NEVER completes the process. This slows down all activity in Outlook to a snail's pace (at best) and then slows down everything else on the PC too. Occasionally (30% of the time?) I get an error message when I open Outlook that my Personal Folders did not shut down properly. Other times I get a message, upon opening Outlook, asking if I'm sure I want to permanently DELETE all of the ITEMS in my DELETED Items folder. The only way to resolve the issue is to close down Outlook and reboot. I don't experience any PC problems as long as I leave Outlook closed.

Where to start... Ok.

I encountered this problem a few days ago. I tried to reinstall Rome: Total War PC game. There was something wrong with the uninstallation so I just deleted its folder and cleaned the registry with a reg. cleaner. Then I tried to install the game again. I put in the cd and clicked on 'Install' when it autoplayed. This came up, nothing unusual: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v101/Lambda/demoshield.jpg.

Right after that, I got this error message: "_is5E.tmp has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience."And the next time I try, it says this: "_is60.tmp has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience." So basically it changes the last two characters before .tmp in the filename, like this: _isXX.tmp.

Well, I tried to search for those files with the Windows XP search function, and I found out that the files are in C:/WINDOWS/Prefetch folder. The _isXX.tmp files actually have a -XXXXXXXX.pf ending, X's being numbers or letters. Example: the latest .tmp file created by RTW installation is this: _IS77.TMP-0F6E10A7.pf. Deleting these .tmp (or should I say .pf?) files and then starting the installation just creates a new file.
And I'd say that that 'is' part of the filename indicates it has something to do with the InstallShield installing, which has something to do with the DemoShield pic I showed you.

Just recently I found out that the problem isn't just Rome: Total War specific and that my installation CD is not BROKEN, but it's in fact something wrong in the system files or something. I was trying to install Doom 3 - it has exactly the same problem. Both Doom 3 and RTW installation show the DemoShield picture right before the error message, and their installation CDs' layout is similar:

Both have the .msi packages, setup.exe and .ini files and launch.exe and .ini files etc.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think DemoShield was used to create the installation process on both of the CDs, and InstallShield is the program that actually handles the installation process, and that there's something wrong with the InstallShield.

So I have a few questions.

Are there any logs created by problems such as this, so I could get more info on what actually is wrong?
Is there any way to delete InstallShield and install it again to get rid of the problem, assuming that there's something wrong with InstallShield?
Can you help me with this?

It seems to me you missed something when you just deleted the folder and the game isn't fully uninstalled.If I remembered what the problem actually was, I would describe it, but I don't remember. I just recall there was a problem.

And also, I did point out in my post that the problem isn't RTW specific, because the exactly same problem OCCURS with Doom 3. So I don't think I have to dig for some still uninstalled RTW files to get rid of the problem

EDIT: and I have also run a series of registry cleaning tools and tools that clean all files that have no use etc. My COMPUTER should be pretty clean and optimized right now, at least relatively, compared to what it has been.Turn off all other running programs, especially antivirus stuff and then try installing again.
I think you're on the wrong track blaming demoshield for this.
Gotta run, late for work. Well I think that your registry cleaner that you used "cleaned" things up too well and messed up your installshield. It probably removed what it thought was a useless file that was tied up with that problem you had with the uninstall of RTW and it took something Installshield needs.

Try to install some other things. See if they install. Try something other than games as well. See if you can install anything at all. That way you can rule out all I've said above. Otherwise......

I've installed lotsa things recently, but just Doom3 and RTW are the ones that won't work so far. They're also the only ones that have shown the demoshield pic during installation.

And disabling antivirus didn't help.

In the Who to Contact part they say that it's most probably the software vendor I should contact and not InstallShield's makers. And they say that if the software vendor is UNABLE to provide solution, I should encourage them to contact InstallShield to we can together form a solution. Bah.
I really think this has to do with InstallShield and they can provide the solution. I don't think this really has anything to do with Rome: Total War or Doom 3 specifically, but InstallShield.As I understand it the shield comes with the game so it's highly unlikely you would have 2 broken ones.

What does my RAM has to do with this? I have a gig of ram running at 333MHz, would be 400MHz unless my mobo restricted it.

EDIT: By the way, I'm going to reinstall WinXP today, since it's a long time since I did it last time. Now's good also because of this problem.. I'm pretty sure that it's fixed once I have the new Windows installed - and if it's not fixed, we KNOW that the problems's not in the system files but somewhere completely else.You could have as many gigs of RAM as you want. But if it's faulty it's not going to do you any good. Test your RAM.

I got rid of gigs of junk that I had on my pc, and I reformatted and repartitioned my other harddisk and made it NTFS, like the other one I have. I have now free space. Lots of free space.

Pretty much done with installing everything and setting things up too. Just have to install the games.

And I just successfully finished the installation of Doom 3, so it would appear that the problem is solved and that it was something in the system files. Woohooo!!!1!1

And I even remember to backup my bookmarks!


A good reinstall will fix most Windows problems, for a while.

I have windows xp and outlook 2003. Recently I tried importing a file from exel to outlook. After I did that, I could not open outlook. It would start to open, then it would start downloading up to 66% then it would hang. And that is it. It would stop responding. I have tried everything I can think of. I removed outlook and reinstalled. I did all the updates, I even disconnected my pc from the wall. Nothing. The only error message I get is when I CLICK on the little ENVELOPE at the bottom right hand corner it says "Outlook is not responding. If you are using an exchange server.." I am not using an exchange server.

Just my opinion, you MUST use your own judgement.

This is a well established outlet for the internet (ANYTHING existing for more than a few months).

When clicking on "Open File" in FrontPage (FP 2002), why does it default to a web folder (folder icon with the little WORLD image on it) rather than the folder I have been working with? Do web folders take precedence over NORMAL folders and what makes a folder a web folder when many other folders have HTML pages in them?

You better of opening a file first instead of opening the application and open file.I used FrontPage 2000 extensively in the past but have not used it much for the last year or so and have forgotten some of it's features. If you right click on a normal folder in FrontPage, you'll probably see an option to "Convert to web" and, conversely, if you right click on a web folder, you'll probably have an option to convert to (regular) folder.

Again, I don't recall the significance of this. But, surely, it is significant or the feature would not exist. My guess is that's it may not be significant when you're simply working on html files in FrontPage, but it may be significant when you publish your pages to host server, and perhaps even when viewing the pages on your own computer via your browser.

An good place to get some expert advice on FrontPage is a newsgroup, such as microsoft.public.frontpage.client. You can use Outlook EXPRESS as a newsgroup reader. And, check out the FrontPage Users Forums.

Is there any possible way to secure a word document so that the text can not be altered after it is saved?

I am using Micorsoft Word 2000 and would like to create a template that can be used for client case notes. The information contained in the case notes needs to be protected so it can not be altered after it has been saved.

Track changes is not an option as that would mean that all additional entries would show as changes. A coordinatior needs to be able to open the document each time a client reports and add a case note. Then once the document has been saved it would require an additonal case note entry rather than just being able to alter the existing case note.

We are a non profit organization and our budget does not allow for purchase of additional software so we need to create our ELECTRONIC case notes using existing software.

Any suggestions that you have would be welcome.

Do you want sth else?I can set password protection for read only and to change the document but that does not give me the protection that I need.

Our organization deals with people who are in conflict with the law and the case notes that we WRITE are often Subpoenaed for COURT. We have to be able to verify that what the case notes say is accurate and has not been changed in any way. A coordinator needs to be able to type up the case note then save the document. Once it is saved I do not want them to be able to go back into the document and make any changes unless they type up an entire new entry and the ORIGINAL entry is still there and can not be deleted or altered.

I am thinking we are going to have to try to find some sort of free or very low cost specific software unless this can be done in one of the applications in the Microsoft Office suite.

Any help you can give me is very welcome.

What you want is exactly why we have pdf files.
With microsoft office document (word/excel/etc), no matter how you protect it, it still can be overwritten. Unless you set up the administration tools.
But using pdf file is still the best solution.

I'm running Outlook 2003 on XP. Hello - I accidentally REMOVED my Outlook account. However the .ost and .pst files are still on my computer so the data is still there. How do I configure Outlook to bring my account back to life?

What I was trying to do was add a POP3 account in Outlook to access my MESSAGES I get from Gmail. So I wanted to delete my old account that used to be connected through Exchangce before I added the POP3 acount for Gmail. I stupidly didn't realize that removing it would make my data go away. I want to get my old data back and then also import all my messages from Gmail.

There must be nothing with your data. Removing accaount can't HARM your data. Just try to USE Impotr/Export from the File menu to bring back your .pst and .ost files...You didn't need to REMOVE the account to set up pop access for gmail. Here's the step by step pop configuration for 2003.

i have tried to use this feature on my hp computer and it works to START, and then says cannot create----*** files MAYBE corrupt, try DIFFERENT files. these files work on a 30 day t. program so i dont think that is a problem. hp has been of no help on this issue.Find another program. I had a freeze up on my Outlook 2000. After using the Inbox Repair Tool, I was able to save everything. I then archived and compacted the .pst file to reduce it by about 25%.

I then tried to get my mail and it started the process, showing how many were on the server and the countdown. ALSO, the animated mail icon in the bottom tray showed mail coming in.

However, when it finished, it gave a error message that said the mail couldn't be retrieved from the server. It was a download error.

Thinking Norton System Works might have something to do with it, I uninstalled it. Didn't help. I uninstalled Outlook and did a registry clean and reinstalled. Didn't help.

Here is the REALLY INTERESTING part. I installed Outlook Express, and it downloaed the mail. I then went to my wife's user and configured Outlook 2000 and it downloaded mail. I went bact to my user and it still didn't work.

All my business stuff is on my Outlook 2000--email and contacts with extensive notes.

What do you think went wrong and what to do to fix it?

I made a new pst folder with a new name. Now the new one allows me to CHECK the box for the mail to be received; BUT WAIT, after closing and opening Outlook, it then switched to the other. So I check the other one (because now it doesn't allow it in the new one) and close/open and it switches again which one it will allow to be checked. THis is really crazy, but PROBABLY has a RELATIVELY easy fix if I just knew what it was. IDEAS?Wow, so many people with the same problems - I thought I was the only one jinxed!

I had the same problem when I had Norton (and for some time after I uninstalled the damned thing and got a half decent antivirus...)

The only way I got round it was to uninstall outlook and re-install it - don't know if u want to do this due to what u have in it, but it worked for me (I think Norton screwed it up).

If you can find a way of saving what u need, then I recommend the above, otherwise contact Microsoft on their help PAGE (including details of the error code) - they might be able to identify exactly what's up.

Here is what finally worked.

I went into safe mode and ran the inbox repair tool (scanpst.exe) on my pst file. Then moved it to a separate folder. Then started Outlook and it established a new personal folder. Then imported from the repaired file. I have 2 HTML e-mail addresses and 5 POP3 accounts that I access through Outlook. They all worked fine yesterday. Today, although I've made no configuration changes, I can only access the HTML addresses. If I manually do a "download message headers," I can bring in the message headers from POP3 accounts, but not the complete messages. Any thoughts?

OKay so i downloaded a movie clip off limewire

FlameSpacebar keys usually have a long metal bar hinged on the key that has to be correctly inserted into a couple of plastic hooks before you click the key into PLACE. I suspect that's what you've missed.Hi Again,
I have not broken anything in the keyboard and I have also found a long metal bar to hinge the key into but it would be helpful if any of you know how to hinge it properly beacause I still am having problems fixing it!!EVERY keyboard is different, so without a picture it's pretty hard to help. But this is usually how it is: the metal bar is connected to the spacebar key. The bar ends in two hooks that dangle down from the key, if you turn the hinge.

The two hooks fit into two plastic slots on the keyboard base. Offer up the metal hooks to the plastic hooks, and then ease the spacebar key into place.

If that doesn't do the TRICK, you're going to have to take some photos.
