I recently lost the mounting hardware for my Tuniq Tower 120 heatsink, the company that owns Tuniq, Sunbeam, and Tuniq themselves are just leading me around in circles as too what too do, telling me too contact one or the other too replace it. So does anyone know where I could get mounting hardware for it?

I plan too use the heatsink in my brothers computer untill we can buy one for it (he hates massive heatsinks for fear of breaking his motherboard), I may give it too him, seeing as the heatsink I have for my 'ole Pentium D 805 is allowing me too reach an overclock from 2.66GHz too 3.66GHz running at 90F with full CPU load.

Sorry for the delay, got a tad busy yesterday. Anyway, the warranty doesn't SEEM too cover lost mounting hardware. So, I was hoping too find someone who knew of a generic replacement that may work.

I still have the H bracket for the heatsink, its the motherboard back plate and/or bolts/screws that I need. I was hoping too run the Tuniq on a Core 2 Duo E8400 when I upgrade the CPU in my desktop, So that I could a system that, for once, doesn't sound like Satan's Hair Drier. Below is an image of the SOCKET LGA775 backplate I need. I'll be honest about how I lost the backplate, I had too RMA a motherboard that I thought was dead, but was actually seeing my pentium D 805 as a "Pentium 5" and enabling hyperthreading. For those of you that don't know, the pentium D is a dual core CPU, and hyperthreading is a single core CPU emulating a dual core CPU too allow more threads, Hyperthreading was used on pentium 4's. Anyway, I left the bracket on the motherboard. It had uber double sided tape on it, and I forgot too remove it before RMA'ing it, needless too say, it didn't come back with my motherboard.

I was looking at a Zalman bracket I may be able too drill out and tap too support some standard dome headed stove bolts. Either way, I will find a way too re-use this heatsink. I paid $50 for it, I'll be damned if I'm going too let it be a shelf ornament.

I figure I'll just wrap the zalman bracket in a layer of good ole electrical tape, and stick it on the back of the board. the electrical tape is there too be entirely SURE the aluminum doesn't cause any shorts or grounding issues, even THOUGH aluminum is non-conductive, better safe than sorry.

Anyway, thanks Patio, you jarred my memory of the Zalman bracket newegg had. I'll end up modding it too work somehow or another. Unless, someone knows of a better bracket.Hope it works out for you...

BTW aluminum is conductive...
Some repair shops sell the insulator pads in larger pads that can be CUSTOM cut to size...they come 2 ways with stickum on one or both sides or none at all.

i have four partitions in my 40 GB hdd.each with 10 GB accdentally i've formatted partition d instead of C ,so my question is can i INSTALL the software in partition c and run so that i can recover the data from partition dThe only way that I know of for recovering info from a formatted disc(partition) is through third party RECOVERY programs that does it through DOS.
The program is installed on a bootable disc and it is ran after BOOTING to the disc. A different DRIVE should be used to write the recovered data to...Data files are fairly easy to recover....while photoes and video files are much more difficult and some may never be recovered at all.....that is by using the programs that are available to the public.There are several programs that can recover formatted and repartitioned drives. I'm also glad, hardware guys didn't complain, which means, as non-hardware guy, I didn't mess up anything   Patio, which part of the scan was right? From my neophyte point of view, the scan shows a conflict. It tells me what memory I have, what the system can use and several examples of their wares. This leads me to believe I can upgrade to more memory, but then, I see this line in the same scan: 

"According to our scan, your system already has the maximum amount of memory installed."

The scan tells me I can upgrade, then it tells me I can't. Can't anyone else see how confusing this is? Could this be just a form glitch? As inexpensive as memory is, I can't afford to buy stuff I can't use. Sorry, I hate to put anyone in the spotlight, but what I need is an expert to tell me yes, I can upgrade or no, I can't.

Yeah, I would wait until your out of options before trying to remove those keys then. To my knowledge if these keys were corrupted as this is what usually happens, it will throw a error in Device Manager to my knowledge. Listen to others and I'll see if I can FIND out what else might be the cause. I'm guessing the power is working ok and the cd's spin when inserted as usual?
Unfortunately I don't have another computer to test the drive with. And yes, the cd spins when I put it in and the eject/retract functions WORK fine. Should I start thinking about buying a new cd drive or is there any way I can try and diagnose the problem?I hope it won't come to that.

You say you have Alcohol 120% installed. I don't have it but do you think it's possible Windows is looking at the virtual drive instead of the CD Drive?I thought it could be but once I disabled the virtual drives, they no longer showed up in the device manager. I'm gonna uninstall them both, uninstall the driver for the cd drive, restart, and see you guys in a COUPLE minutes.  Wish me Luck! Nothin.  I'm not sure if there is anything else i can think of that MAY fix this problem...
My only suggestion now is to see if it runs in Safe Mode but I'm starting to think it's a hardware problem...

I finally got it working, there was a keyboard issue. I didnt know there was such a thing as "F Lock". Anyway, I got Vista installed on it and all is well so far. Im not sure there is a jumper next to the HD SATA connector, but i could be wrong....

Thanks for your comments.Computer parts do go bad. 5-8 years is a pretty good lifespan for a mouse. 3 new hard drives in the lifetime of the computer is a little much though.

I checked the other topics about this subject and some of them seem pretty similar but not quite what is happening to me.  I got a Dell Dimension desktop 4600.  I bought it a couple years ago and it's always ran pretty smooth.  I've replaced a lot of the parts in it though, including new ram, video card, and power supply.

It stopped working last night and I've spent 6 or 7 hours today trying to fix it myself and look online on how to fix it to no avail.  When I press the power button, all that happens is the fan will start SPINNING and the outside green light will come on.  I don't hear any beeps, the HARD drives don't spin or load up, none of the normal stuff computers do when they load normal happens.  I should add the fan spins at a medium speed, not super fast or anything. 

I read online it might be the power supply so I tried it in two other computers and it worked fine, I also moved another working power supply into my computer and it still wouldn't load up.  I've tried moving the ram all around, I don't even have the video card anymore since I don't care about video right now, I Just want the thing to load the hard drives at least.

The last thing I remember doing is moving the monitor plug from the video card port onto the integrated graphics port while the computer was still on.  (stupid I know)  The monitor wouldn't load up, and also wouldn't go back up when I put it into the video card port again, and now it doesn't load at all no matter what.  I thought maybe the mobo fried, but I don't see any burn marks and the fan and that mobo light still work.

This is my last hope for help before I have to pay a repairman 100 bucks or so to come out and fix this thing so any help would be appreciated.  LET me know if you need any more info.

The problem is your computer isn't POSTing... Finding the problematic part of the machine is the hard part. It could be your processor (as it was in my case), RAM, Motherboard, or power supply (which you say its not, and I believe if it just stopped working after 2 yrs.)Hmm, Well like I said, I doubt it's the power supply or the ram.  And it SEEMS strange that it would just suddenly stop working like this. 

Is there any way to find out if it's the motherboard or the processor without having to swap parts from other computers until you find the right one?  Because to be honest, I think that might be a little beyond my abilities.  Not to mention incredibly time consuming.

Also do you think it would help to take it to a repair shop, or would they just end up charging me 50 bucks to tell me the motherboard is done.

I should add, there is actually another Dell 4600 in the house that has the same motherboard and processor as my computer.  If it's not too hard, I might be able to switch the processors to see if that's the problem? if you have the exact same processor, then i recommend swapping them. i have a funny feeling the problem is the motherboard and the CPU swap should confirm that.heh, sounds like I'm pretty much SCREWED then.  I just don't think I got the knowledge to try and replace the mobo or the processor.  I especially don't wanna end up screwing up the other computer since it's the one my step dad uses. 

So one last question, do you think I'd be able to get some kind of repair shop to fix this?  Assuming they would charge me for the motherboard and the repair?

Hmm, well after seeing places charging 150/hr to fix my computer, I've decided it might be best to just buy the parts and fix it myself.

I'm dual booting vista home premium and xp professional sp3 on my laptop. I have vista installed natively on a partition of my TOSHIBA MK1637GSX, and two other partitions. One is my recovery partition (comes with hp machines) for vista, and the other has xp installed on it.

My vista partition has 80 gigs of free space, and i would like to shrink it to produce about 40gigs of unallocated space, then extend my xp partition, hence tranferring 40 gigs of space from one partition to the other. I remember vista has a built in function which ALLOWS for resizing of partitions. My question is, will doing so ERASE data on the partitions?

JXYAccording to this there will be no data loss. 

However, if you are concerned about losing files they should be backed up as normal good practice.  You can never tell when your hard drive will fail catastrophically leaving you with nothing!

I didn't mean that you should just back up your important data before resizing partitions, I meant that you should be backing up your important data on a regular basis.   Like all other electro/mechanical devices hard drives can fail completely without warning.

O.K so I was getting my son a new computer for his birthday and I went to power it up and nothing comes to the monitor.  I've tried swapping out the parts I could and when I replaced the amd phenom BLACK edition 9850  with an OLDER amd athlon 5200+ dual core it works fine.  The MOTHERBOARD I'm USING, from what I've read on it, is an EGS geforce6100sm-mv:1.0 ht2000.
Is this motherboard not going to support an AM2+ socket proccessor like the amd phenom black edition?  I know the amd 5200 is only am2 but I was under the impression that the only difference between am2 and am2+ was hypertransport 2.0 and 3.0.  If you need any more information I forgot to post tell me.ECS 6100SM-M ....   $55 no phenom support

Is there anyone out there who can ASSIST me with a slight problem, my printer/scanner, though it continues to WORK, tells me in the window, that the waste INK reservoir is almost full and that I should consult the MANUAL, however the manual only explains how to change the Cartridge, (easy) and how to Clean the Printer Head, (ALSO easy), but not how to Clean the Reservoir.

I was using my computer, BLACK out, now no internet.

My computer will not recognise the router IM using windows vista x86 (32 bit)

Tried:
disabling and enabling
system restore (2 days before hand)
uninstalling controller (computer froze and i couldnt go ahead)
reverting back to aprevious driver
Updating a newer driver
restarting modem
checked all connections
Tried another computer (internet WORKS)

THANKS FOR ANY HELP!Can you cable directly from the modem to your computer (bypass the router) to see if you can reach the Internet that way?try to reboot the router unplug it for about 30 seconds or so then plug it back in. You may have to set it up again cause this has happened to me and I had to set everything up again. It was mainly my wireless but you never know also try to do a REPAIR on your internet connection. My computer does not want to read 3.5 floppy disks anymore.  I receive this message when I try to access a floppy disk:  A:\ is not accessible.  The floppy disk controller reported an error that is not recognized by the floppy disk drive.

I have a Dell Dimension 8250, Windows XP Professional, Intel Pentium 4 CPU, 2.66 GHz, 512 MB RAM, Service Pack 2.Check the cable, try a known good disk, try a different floppy drive.
The cable is secure.  I did install a new floppy drive and it didn't work.  I did not get the same message as before.  The new drive was not able to find any disk in the drive. 

Any other ideas that I might look into?it is configured for 3 1/2" 1.44MB in the CMOS setup isn't it? not 5 1/4" or 720K or anything?

That is correct BC_Programmer.  I realize my office is still in the stone age because of our floppy disk usage but thank god we're not THAT outdated.  LOL   I still have a 5 1/2" drive. You just wait, I'll be the one laughing when Windows 2010 comes out on 3000 360K floppy disks!

Now, somebody could have switched the CMOS SETTING accidentally wasn't saying you guys used 5 1/4" drives . Let's see what info we have here:

in any case- you replaced the floppy drive, and no longer get that error, now I am supposing you are recieving simply the generic device not ready error for A:.


Hmmm. It's a shot in the dark, but you could try a different floppy cable. I know I've had ATA hard drives have problems with bad cable, floppy drives are probably susceptible as well.

If that doesn't work, it's also possible that the Floppy disk controller has failed... (as you probably know, thats integrated on the mobo, so let's hope that isn't the case).

You could also check the CMOS for settings. I know I've had problems with settings like "floppy 3-mode support" or something. pretty much just look for floppy drive related settings.Is the light on the drive always on ? ?
This means the cable is in backwards...I was going to mention that before but then thought that they might have mentioned that the light was always on. Then again, SOMETIMES we don't hear details...The indicator light on the floppy disk drive does not stay on constantly.The drive may have been DOA...wouldn't be the first TIME.
Swap it into another machine and use a brand new floppy connector cable to confirm this...hirhodes,Perchance are you getting a message that says (or something similiar) "this device has been permenantly disabled" ? truenorthNo I'm not truenorth.  This problem here has me so vexed.  We've given up and called over someone who might be able to help us.  Good thing my boss is paying for it. Ok last night my music suddenly stopped playing, and I found the reason was that my LAPTOP thought my external HD was plugged in twice. The usual letter for the drive is E. However it also showed G. When I physically DISCONNECTED the HD, only the G disappeared. So I thought this was weird, but it was late so I didnt really bother thinking too much, I was going to bed. This mornming I booted up, and tere it is again, only now it comes up as G, and no E is present at all. This is really inconvenient because I have ALOT of data on the external HD which is associated with 'E:/...'. Is there any way to put it back to recognising the drive as E, and is there any way I can avoid this HAPPENING again?

Edit - ResolvedRight clik My Computer and select Manage...then Disk Management.
Find the drive and RIGHT clik it and select "Assign Drive Letter".
Make sure the letter isn't already in use.
Re-boot to make sure the CHANGES have taken effect.

My CD/DVD Burner/reader will READ CD's But will NOT BURN cd's or DVD's

How can I fix this? I can watch movies and play music but it wont LET me burn anything and wont auto play when I put the dvd/cd in the drive. Any help WOULD be greatWhat's the make and model NUMBER of the drive or computer it came with? How old is it? Are you sure it's a CD/DVD burner and not a regular CD/DVD drive?Also, what program are you using to attempt to burn?Some burners use different laser's for reading and burning...sounds like the one that burns has gone South.
To test this swap it into another machine and try to burn...if it won't the drive has failed...

My HARD disk capacity is  160gb , when i see in computer properties it shows only 20GB and and i can not install new things in computer.

It looks from the pic that SIDE is already removed as WELL.  Some boards are easier to take out from the top.  I have a few of these cases but with a slotted processor so I find it easier.  PROBABLY just one he had on hand.It's a boy!

I have just installed a second HDD in my Dell DIMENSION 4700. It is the original HDD that came in the computer. If I connect it solely, it is recognized, but if I connect it with a second SATA cable, and the paralled power cable, only the first drive is recognized. I went to disk manager, and rescanned, but it is not recognized. I also reboted. Any ideas?

 Did you partition and format the HDD - What are you trying to do with this HDD? Is it recognised in the bios?Yes; It's working! Both drives have been used as the single primary drive. I was just trying to get them both going at the same time. I'm not sure how it happened, but I GOT the dos screen on powerup, and was able to TURN the second drive on. It works now.

Hi, everytime I install my printer, it works fine until I shut down & start up again, in which case there are no printers installed - every time!

Puter specs:

Intel(R)
Celeron(R) CPU 2.00GHz
2.00GHz, 480MB of RAM

Running: Windows XP SP2

I have removed all printers & printer drivers before reinstalling, following the steps on this page: http://members.shaw.ca/bsanders/CleanPrinterDrivers.htm, to no avail.

I keep my computer clean - I regularly RUN Panda Antivirus; SuperAntiSpyware; AdAware; Malwarebyte's & CCleaner.

I'm hoping someone will understand the problem & know the fix because I am at a loss here & really need to print invoices & packing slips for my business.

Not sure if this is noteworthy but I don't know if this is a new problem or not as I've never had a printer installed before.

have a 98' dell dimension L400c desktop , has a 2 -memory slots , memory {help guides} POINT to using  512mb max, pc100, sdram, non-ecc, unbuffered, 100mhz, CL2-CL3?  present memory: micron 256mb pc133, 133mhz, CL3,  the dell pc  seems to  run good with newer design not recommend or should i pull this micron pc133 to PLAY it safe?The 133 is running at 100 since that is what the MBoard supports...if you are having no issues leave it.Try going to CRUCIAL website. they will scan your PC and tell you what memory they recommend. very good company. I just PURCHASED 2GB off them WORKED first time on fitting. By the way if you fit new memory it should be in matching pairs, ie 2 the same type and value.if you put in a faster ram speed it will automatically go down to the speed of the mother board. You shouldn't have any problems at all.

I have an Athlon 2.4ghz pc running WINDOWS XP Pro with a Gigabyte M57SLI-S4 AM2 NFORCE 570 MOBO, with 2gb ram.  I recently purchased (cheap!) 2gb from a friend who was tearing down his old PC and decided to install them in my system.  Yeah, I know 4gb is overkill, but I have it, so why not?  Anyway, I installed both chips, but my pc is only showing 3.25gb ram, instead of 4gb.  Why?  I know the max ram for my mobo is 4gb, so that shouldn't be a problem.  Suggestions?a 32bit OS will not see more then 3.25-3.5gb's of RAM. if you want to access the FULL 4gb, you will need to purchase a 64 bit OS.Ahh, that explains it.  So if I don't switch to a 64bit OS it won't cause any problems though, right?no. you will be fine, it just MEANS that little bit of RAM will not be used.

Recently i had heating problems that i fix with a new power supply and new cpu fan. Computer is running normal at 27C temp.

My problem now is that in random time the computer just lock on a black screen. The only way to RESTARTED is on is by depressing the reset botton on the front of the tower.

Any ideas...

have you been able to capture a temp fairly close to the time the display blanks out? could be Video CARD related (and on that note Video Driver Related).I have been monitoring the comp temp every time since i upgrade the PSU, and the CPU fan. So how can i know if is a driver problem or a VGA problem?
Try installing newer Video Card Drivers- If the problem remains its probably fine on the driver side.

I assume that other then the Disk check the computer doesn't bring up any errors when you turn it back on?

Windows Key+R, type CMD sometimes the card just needs to reinitialize the video mode or something, not sure why that worked for me.


Also you could try the same thing, but instead of cmd, type of gibberish, then press enter. if you hear a sound, the computer is still running at the same time (only the video has blanked out)

I made a slight change in the primay IDE from auto to something else, saved it (F10), and rebooted.

The settings are saved however.Questions;

I have a Hitachi 100Gb 2.5" HD running inside my laptop.

I also have an M-Audio TRANSIT USB sound card. I have used this soundcard with this laptop and HD for several years now with no problems.

However, over the LAST few days I have noticed that the sound playback is regularly interrupted by hard DISK activity. Whenever the HD light flickers the sound playback is interrupted - it either mutes or more usually stutters or stalls. This means that the sound card is now practically unusable.

I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the latest drivers, but to no avail.

i have a 98' Dell Dimension L400c {512mb max} desktop , i need to know the right  MEMORY selection on matching 1 of 2 memory slots. one slot  already has a micron sdram, non-ecc, 256mb ,pc133, 133mhz, CL3!  I  recently bought a micron sdram,non-ecc ,128mb, pc100, 100mhz, CL2 & I ask will these two "new" micron's memories work together well or cause alot of PC problems ??   Should run OK...however the 133 will now run at 100mhZ.

I am trying to figure out the max speed CPU this Imperial GL_VE motherboard will take. It was originally a Celeron 2.0 Ghz /128k cache /400mhz socket 478 CPU that I replaced with a Pentium 4 2.0 Ghz /512k cache /400mhz bus

I tried a 2.40 Ghz and 2.66 Ghz P4 and get post beeps. These CPUs are both 533 mhz bus, so I am guessing that I need a 400mhz BUS cpu only and the 533's cant underclock to 400 to operate on this cheap "eMachines" motherboard. If 2.0Ghz is it, then oh well, otherwise I'd like to squeeze more power out of it.

I did find a website with BIOS FLASHES, but I wont dare do them since they are not OEM provided flashes, and this motherboard has no failsafe when FLASHING, so a bad flash could kill the motherboard.

I also should have written down the model# of the eMachines computer this motherboard came out of, but forgot to when I had 4 computers and built this one system with all the spare parts.

Maybe my BEST bet would be just to find a faster 400mhz bus CPU than 2.0Ghz, but then would the multiplier ramp up faster to MAKE the faster sped CPU operate. Also are there any that are 400mhz BUS that exceed 2.00 Ghz?

I contacted eMachines and they wanted $130 for the info....I dont think so!!! I can get a new faster lower end Motherboard and CPU for that COST!

ok, well lets c, im MOSTLY a software guy but as far as a can see its not a software problem i am haveing

The motherboard in my system is SY-P4VSA.  The Chipset s VIA P4X266 and it supports 400MHZ FSB.  I have an INTEL Pentium 4 1.8GHz 400MHz 256KB Socket 478 CPU installed now.

Okay I got this card out of a machine that I had got from my dads boss,  Its a maxtor PCI IDE Card.  The thing is I dont know how to set these up does it connect to the IDE connector on the BOARD or do you just connect to the card?It GOES into a PCI slot.
It enables you to use more than 4 IDE drives on a machine.
It needs Drivers to function properly.I know that it goes in a pci.  but do you just connect an ide cable from it to the drive or from it to the board.You connect the IDE cable from the card to the hard drive.  Don't forget to set the hard drive jumper(s) for Master/Slave/Single/Cable_Select (whatever is appropriate for your configuration and drive).Okay wasnt really to sure as you seen.You said four drives???  I have two ide connectors on it so with the board its three total, but each ribbon cable can have two drives, so couldnt I have six if I really wanted an if the CASE could hold all them?Please re-read my post. Most computers have 2 IDE slots which can have 2 devices connected for a total of 4.

Do you know anyone who is adept at installing components ? ?
This would save you the money a shop will charge.
If you buy a larger drive and have someone install it they can just use the FREE utilities from the new drive manuf. site and "clone" the old smaller drive to the new one.
This is a relatively simple process that would take under an hour or so...
You could then format the old drive and use it for additional storage.

Is it possible to overclock a sound card (or at least the DAC) to 3.5MHz so that it is possible to transmit composite video signals. I have an RF modulator, and an amplifier is really easy to make, so I was hoping to find a way to CREATE my own TV transmitter. I realize that only low-power is legal. The PC could do all the encoding processing (I mean, it is a computer...). The point is not performance, they make graphics cards for that, the point is proof of concept. Quote

Now you're getting into things I don't know about. I've never tried modifying a sound card like that. It's worth some research, but be careful what you do or you might end up breaking something more important or shorting something out.

What exactly is your end goal? There might be another way to get what you want with more conventional means.

I am new to this board an was hoping someone could help me narrow down some of my scsi u320 issues.

what i have:
MB-tyan k84we (S2895)
8 gig of memory
windows xp64 and vista 64 dual boot
2 asus (asus) in sli mode
the tyan board carried an nforce PROFESSIONAL 200 chipset

I HAVE4 sata ports opn the mother baord.

2 AREC onnected western digital rapters in raid 0. controlled by the motherboard sata controller.
2 are contrlling 2 maxtor 250 ultra 300's

I have a promise ultra 300 tx2 pci controller. it has 3 ports. 2 sata and 1 pata controller header.

On the promise controler i have:

2 maxtor 250 gig drives and 1 pata maxtor 200

lastly i have an daptec ultra 320

i have 1 internal cable. the external termination is done by the card.
on the internal i have 4 ibm ultra 320 35 gig drives in raid 0 hooked to an SE lvd terminal. (its older)

Hi, dunno how this HAPPENED but when I try to use my microphone to chat with people it just plays whatever noises are coming out of my computer and nothing from the MIC. When I go into the thing to setup mic it shows the bars moving whenever a sound from the comp plays. Any idea why its doing this?Check your levels, is MIC set to low and other levels set higher in audio properties?... are you using Vent to chat etc or some other app for chatting?I am using VISTA. when I enter the sound thing under RECORDING tab  it has mic, line in, cd audio, and stereo mix. when there is noises coming from the computer mic and stereo mix bars jump LIKE they are speakers and it plays the noises in the chat programs.

I want to use Teamspeak to chat but it doesnt work with any app.are you sure its plugged into the correct jack?Make and model of sound card?

Also need to know your complete sound setup (speakers, headphones, what ever you're using...)

I dont know why, but I do not get any errors, it just takes a really long time to boot. I have xp installed, when it finally does boot it works fine. The only thing I can think of is I have the hard drive on IDE channel 1 as the master instead of IDE channel 0. Would that make a difference, it really shouldn't. A little help please!!What are your system specs CPU/RAM etc...


 If its a Pentium II 233Mhz with 64MB Ram, ( lowest powered setup I have ever seen XP operate stable but SLOWLY[/i] on ) its going to take forever!!!

Also listen to the hard drive on boot, and watch the HD LED is it on solid yet not much is happening in relation to HD chatter or its is constantly chattering with activity. Is it clunking at all or any other unusual noise.

Il'd test with a different HD to see if its a HD problem or other problem with motherboards controller etc. More liekly HD, but as I stated above, if its a very old BOX with a very old low power CPU and bare minimum Ram, then its going to always be painful.

  I am guessing however that thsi computer ram correct and fast earlier in its life and this is a new problem.Is there anything in the taskbar thats loading when you get into xp?  Anything near the clock along with maleware an spyware these little programs that start when xp does will slow it down a good bit.Download and RUN the FREE diagnostics from the drive manuf. site...
The file creates a bootable CD/floppy so you don't need to be in Windows to run it.
If the test shows the drive has problems STOP USING it immediately if you want any chance of recovering the Data...Try booting in safe mode to see if it boots quicker. Let us know!!well it's none of the above. I downloaded a utility for samsung hard drives, everything checks out ok exept the dma access, is says TIMED out. What does that mean. is the drive fried?Nearly an hour to boot Windows? if you weren't exaggerating I'd say not fried yet, but frying nicely. Time-out or CRC errors mean something is wrong with the way the hard drive is transferring data. It could be on the way out, or there is a (small) chance it could be a loose or damaged cable. Back up your important data while you have the chance.
We still don't know what flavor of Windows this is but if the drive has dropped back to PIO mode all transfers will be painfully slow.
This happens when the drive is exhibiting erratic behaviour and or has errors.
I'm suprised the drive fitness test says it passed at all.

To change the drive mode in Win2K/XP travel to Control Panel/System/Hardware/Device Manager/ Secondary IDE/ Properties....change the mode to UDMA if available or DMA and re-boot for the changes to take effect.

Recently the sound on my laptop (HP/Compaq Presario F500, 10 months old) stopped working for no apparent reason.  I hadn't installed any new hardware/software or anything else unusual which it might have been linked to and the sound has always worked without problems before. I am using Vista Home Premium (ver 6.0 build 6000) and my sound card is Conexant High Definition Audio.

 In the toolbar speaker icon there is a large red cross next to the speaker (unfortunately it is not just on mute...) and when you ATTEMPT to open volume control it shows no volume sliders and simply reads "No audio device is installed". However, when I open device manager, it claims the sound card is working properly. I thought it might be a PROBLEM with the driver so I searched online for a new driver, found ONE which seemed to be a fix for this problem [4.15.0.50 A] but it made no difference. I then used the auto-update feature in device manager to find the latest driver, which it did (I now have 4.33.1.61) but this still made no difference.  I have tried rebooting the computer with the new drivers and disabling/enabling the audio device to no effect.

I am pretty much a novice at computers so there may have been SOMETHING obvious I missed, but there seem to be a few other people out there who have had this problem, and the only fixes I have seen recommended (e.g. get  newest driver etc) haven't worked for me.

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!

Some years ago, I used the Iwill P4GB motherboard to build my own system.  I have built my own systems since the mid 1980's.

No problems - until recently.

The clock/calendar LOSES its mind upon shut down.  I looked for a BATTERY in the P4GB manual, but could not find any reference to one. 

This is getting to be a major nuisance:  Every time I boot the system, I have to reset the clock.  Most of those times, The calendar is way off in space - all the way from year 1600 to 2400 and years between.

When the calendar fails, my spam/spyware software tells me it has expired.  Everything gets well when I reset the clock.

I have TRIED USING the Internet Time utility, but it does not work reliably - if at all.

Does anybody have any SUGGESTIONS other than buying a new MB and chip??

Have 2 different memory's one being {CL2} & {CL3} the other ,will the two memory's work TOGETHER or maybe CAUSE trouble or maham??SET the memory speed to the slower one, CL31.  They'll work if they are each within the range of memory module parameters your motherboard chipset will support.  Your system will attempt to RUN with the lowest common denominator set of memory module parameters.

2.  Serial Presence Detect (SPD).  When you boot, motherboard BIOSes read the SPD information from your memory module(s) to configure the memory controller.  Either your BIOS automatically selects a common parameter set acceptable to your memory modules or you set them manually within the BIOS.

3.  Test the system memory.  You can do this by booting a standalone memory diagnostic program from either floppy or CD-ROM DRIVE.  See MemTest86.  Follow the "Free Download" link to either the floppy:
    Download - Pre-Compiled Memtest86 v3.4a installable from Windows and DOS

or CD versions:
    Download - Memtest86 v3.4a ISO image (zip)

If it passes the memory test without errors (run several complete passes or overnight), there's not much else you can test; you're good to go.
