Solve : Maxtor USB Hard Drive no longer being read by PC? |
Answer» I have a Maxtor internal HDD inside an enclosure. It powers on and begins to read but it sounds like it quits after a few SECONDS. the POWER still works, but my PC won't recognize it as a disk. It sees that there is a USB storage device hooked up but won't read the drive. it's as if the drive isn't there at all. It sees that there is a USB storage device hooked up but won't read the drive. it's as if the drive isn't there at all. What does "Device Management" show for the device under Windows XP. Does it say the device is functioning properly or does it show an error number/message? Does Windows XP assign a drive letter to the USB storage device? Does the USB storage device show up under Windows XP "Disk Management". What does it say?the storage device does show up under Windows XP and Vista disk mgmt. It knows it's a drive with 234GB capacity, but the drive NAME is different. it seems as if it's not reading the partition. Maybe it's not going past the first couple of blocks of data to get to the right partition. There is NO drive letter assigned, but the device is "Working properly." No error messages in disk mgmt. I believe the drive is in the NTFS format as it was done with an XP PC. The last computer to attempt to read the drive was also XP. I've also tried with Vista and OS-X. I will try that tool and see if that helps.1. Assign Drive Letter. From the Windows XP "Disk Management" utility, assign a drive letter to the desired partition(s)/volume(s) on the USB storage device. You're looking for option to "Change Drive Letters and Paths". For instructions reference USB flash drive recognised but doesn't show up in My Computer Yes, I know your disk is not a "flash" drive. 2. Drive Name is Different. Not sure what you mean. Could you give an example? Such as "says this" but I "expected this".The drive name now shows up as 7Y250PO USB Device instead of the name I assigned to it when I first started using it over a year ago. I am unable to assign a drive letter to it as that is not an option for me. I can't even see the partitions. Of course I'm using Vista now and don't currently have access to my XP machine. I will reference those flash drive instructions this morning and see if that works. thank you for your help!If it was used on a MAC you can't expect Windows to treat it fairyl...how exactly is it being reported in Disk Management ? ? Right click My Computer...select Manage and then Disk Management...right click the drive and post the results here.ok i just had a chance to do this. It's not showing up in Disk Management as a drive. In fact, when I goto device manager and click the properties for the drive, under the Volume tab - i click Populate - and nothing shows up. It says next to "status" = "Unreadable." Capacity = 0MB. I also tried Seatools and the drive was only able to perform the Short Generic and Long Generic tests, both of which it failed.I suspect it's still formatted MAC...there are utilities free that will undo this. That or the drive itself has failed.Quote from: tinderbox22 on April 04, 2008, 12:51:20 PM the storage device does show up under Windows XP and Vista disk mgmt. Does it show up as a "disk" under Disk Management? For example, disk0, disk1, disk2... If it does, are you saying it's not possible to assign drive letter? Does the "Change Drive Letter and Paths" option not appear at all or is it just grayed out? |

Solve : Monitor works for a few days and stops? |
Answer» Help Please!! I purchased a new Acer desktop with Vista. I hooked up my old LCD MONITOR and it WORKED for about a week, then the screen went blank. I hooked the monitor back up to my old computer and it works fine, just wont work with the new computer. I bought another LCD monitor and hooked it up to the new Acer. It worked fine, and then about 3 days later it stopped (it works fine with my old computer). I hooked up my friends monitor and it worked fine (did not try it for extended days though). What would cause every monitor I hook up to only work for a few days? This is crazy because the monitors are all good on other computers. Any suggestions???!!1. LCD Monitor. Does anything at all INITIALLY display on the LCD monitors when you power up the Acer desktop? If so, what? |

Solve : Video but no audio playing DVD movie. New DVD RW installed.? |
Answer» Audio works fine with system SOUNDS, audio CD, online video ect., but I have no sound when I try playing a DVD movie I rented. I just installed a 'Sony DRU-840A' DVD-R/RW/RAM/CD and the video shows fine on either monitor listed in my sig, but no audio. I found the following statement when searching this board; "DVD movies. I'm not very knowledgeable about computers so can someone suggest which "additional hardware" I may need? I listed my components as best I know how in my sig. I'll add additional info if needed. Thanks, Mike What player do you use to play video DVDs?I was trying to play DVD movies with Nero 7, which is the software that came with the Sony drive. Since I first posted this THREAD I have downloaded CyberLink PowerDVD v7 {trial version} software which solved my sound problem. But this software will not burn, edit ect. DVD files like the Nero software will. What do I need to do to fix the sound problem when playing movies with Nero, or what software will work best for me? Also, what hardware / software will I need to view / record my Dish Network TV satelite channels on my computer? Thanks Broni! I don't use Nero, so I'm not familiar with it. You may post at Nero forums. As for playing video, many people use VLC Player: http://www.videolan.org/. It has one very important advantage over other players - it has all necessary codecs built-in. To view TV channels on your computer, you need TV tuner card. I believe, most of them nowadays come with video capture capability, which you need to record TV programs.I downloaded the VLC player and it works fine. Thank you very much!!! That saves me about $70 I can use toward a TV tuner card. Is there certain criteria I need to look for when selecting a card to be sure it will work with my 'Dish Network' signal? You're very welcome Any tuner card will do. Check its specs to see, if it meets your needs.I bought a tuner card for $99 + tx {Hauppauge WinTV 1600} and it works GREAT. It included software {Ulead DVD Movie Factory} which required no additional cost for upgrades, plug-ins, paid version ect. I now can play DVD movies and record from my satelite box, edit files, and burn them to disc. I still have a lot to learn about it but I managed to record the NCAA championship ball game with all the comercials, then edit out the comercials, then burn the FILE to disc. And all with 'AUDIO'!!! So I'm a happy camper! Thanks again for your help Broni and thanks again to this board. MikeWe're happy for you |

Solve : DVD/CD drive problems? |

Answer» my DVD RW drive is a Sony DVD RW-D W-D23A Pre-recorded DVDs are recognised and will play normally. Blank discs are not recognised and I cannot burn or record anything. my Rom drive is a Sony DVD-Rom D D U 1613 Sometimes CDs are not recognised at all. I get a message to INSERT a disc into the drive. I have not been able to resolve these problems using the Windows troubleshoot facility or via the Sony website. Can anyone help please? (my O S is Windows XP Home edition). lens........of ur DVD has..lost it power....!Quote from: smkcyber on April 01, 2008, 07:53:46 AM lens........of ur DVD has..lost it power....!smkcyber's post doesn't make a lot of sense but he is probably on the right track... It sounds like your burner is dying. How old is it? You can install and TEST it in another computer to make sure it is in fact the burner that is at fault here.Thanks. The computer is three years old. I am afraid that I am such a greenhorn that I would not know how to do this.DVD Writers are so CHEAP these days(~$40). It is'nt worth mucking around, just replace it with a new one. It is an easy task to remove the old one and install a new one. gregThanks. I might do that.I had the same thing with a Sony, I burn a CD and it was never the same, stop reading PC CD and only DVD'S and music CD then that stop reading them. I bought one for £ 24.99 at PC world, which comes with a burner,DVD and replaced it and it works fine. UNPLUG COMPUTER ! You need Philip's screw driver, take sides and front cover off, unscrew the screws holding your old one. You should have 3 plugs to unplug from it. One big main in the middle and 2 smaller one on each side. Slowly pull out old driver and watch how much lead you have with cables. Unsnap them and be careful they don't drop down cause you might have some plugs that look the same but not in use. Small hands and fingers do help. lol. Once unplug / replug your new one in the same way slide it back carefully not to pinch any wires. screw it back on, COVERS back on and your ready to plug computer back in. once computer come on it will tell you what you need to do and CD that came with it to add the softwear it came with. hope this helps. Thanks for your help. Thinking about it SMKcyber may have been trying to say the lenses may need cleaning. This certainly SOLVED a problem I had on an ordinary CD player. I would like to try that first. But - how do I clean the lenses in the computer version? |

Solve : Potential motherboard/POST problem? |
Answer» Hi guys, For what it's worth: And ? ? How are you convinced this is a BIOS issue ?Quote from: patio on April 08, 2008, 04:06:51 PM Quote from: dahlarbear on April 08, 2008, 01:28:03 PMFor what it's worth: I'm not, but I believe the site might help troubleshoot the problem. It has links to POST and beep codes for different manufacturers.dahlarbear i apologise. I thought that link was to the site that wants to sell you a BIOS update. They've been AROUND for years and i detest their marketing strategies. For the life of me i can't recall the name but i should have checked your link first. That's a very informative site and not what i initially thought it was. Once again I apologise. patio.Hi guys, A further development, I've now replaced the video card and still no joy. Exactly the same response, no image on screen and the PC does not beep when powered on. I tried the video card in both of my PCI-E ports. I've got to think now that it is the motherboard, any thoughts? Many thanks, MattI think you are right...at this point I would be looking at the motherboard. Do you have another one you could swap out with to test? Unfortunately not, i think i might have to take a gamble on just buying a new one. I did use a PCI Debug Card, which wasn't massively helpful. When i booted with it in it referenced the POST FAILURE as being a 'keyboard input error'. Motherboard again maybe?USB or PS2 ? ?I didn't have a keyboard connected, although I usually use a USB.Borrow or buy a PS2 keyboard and mouse combo and try it... Everyone should have one, especially for testing. |

Solve : Trying to setup 2 HDD's in my pc, need LOTS of help, details within? |
Answer» Ok, so I had a major issue with my pc. It wasn't booting, overcame that, now it's all a mess after repair/recovery and it's time for drasting measures). So I'm backing up data, and looking to do a full reinstall of XP on my pc. I have a 2ND pc at home, my wife's and that one is nearly identical to my own and exhibiting no issues. I'm putting the back'd up data on hers for now. I have a smaller drive that was connected to my previous old rig, that I had been saving for using as a windows home server for the two pc's, xbox, etc (never got around to it, and now I regret it!). There's data on that drive, too. Barring any questions I might have for getting the data off the main drive on my pc (pc #1 is mine, pc#2 is my wife's, pc#3 is the old rig that I was going to use for the home server, for reference hence forth) here's a few others I hope someone can help with: Now I want to check that drive (from PC1) to see if it's viable or not, before I put it back and reinstall xp. Click on this Good luckassuming that the utility that dusty provided the link to, delivered +ve results, there's really no reason to check if the drive is empty or not. during installation, XP will give you another chance to wipe the drive clean.(a good advice is not to use the quick format option) after that, no matter what, the drive will be empty. mind you, you'll have to DELETE the partitions too, and repartition the disk according to your wish, which can all be done very, very easily. but wait, you'll still have to observe the functioning of the drive while it is still in pc#2. check if you can transfer some files to and from the drive in question to pc#2's original drive (assuming it isn't disconnected.) it is not very smart to totally rely on a utility provided by a manufacturer, although it may be necessary. hard drives can be tricky some times, heavy usage tends to make them marginally slow compared to the new ones, since they are the only functional moving components of your computer that your PC can't do without. anyway, if your HDD passes this test, it is ready to be put back into PC#1. as for your second question, to set up multiple HDDs on your system, you need to make sure that you have 2 dual channel IDE cables installed on your system(which is usually the case). IDE cables connect HDDs to your motherboard. in case you don't know, 2 cables with 2 channel each gives you 4 channels to play with. so you can connect max 4 HDDs on your system. but at least one of those channels will be taken up by your DVD burner that leaves you with 3 remaining. when you look at an IDE cable, you'll find 3 connector pins, 2 at the ends, 1 in the middle but a bit close to one of the other two. the pin that is isolated is to be connected to the motherboard, the remaining 2 can be connected to the IDE devices (HDD, CD, DVD etc.). now, the device that you'll connect to the other end of this cable will be a master drive by default, and the one you'll connect (if any) to the pin remaining will be slave. besides this, you'll have to set the jumpers on each device before connecting them to the cables. and no, you won't need any silly pics to go about this. just look at the back of your HDD, where you connect the cable, there will be a set of 8 metal pins in 2 sets of 4s. there will be a tiny plastic/metal connector on top of 2 of the pins in there, that is your jumper. a Jumper is a device used to SHORT 2 pins, the manner in which the pins are shorted, determines the functioning of the device in question. EVERY IDE device has it's jumper setting. you can place this tiny connector in such a way that determines the behaviour of your HDD. and the manner in which you should connect this jumper is completely specified on the back of your hard disk in a figure. it should specify which 2 pins you should connect the jumper across in order to connect your HDD in master or slave specification. Follow my advice and connect the jumper in the 'cable select' position which is a sort of default specification to get rid of conflicts. and don't be alarmed if you find more than one jumpers in there, which is likely coz u have a samsung drive. Just follow the instructions that are ON THE HARD DRIVE and not anywhere else. OK, so connect one HDD on the master end of your IDE cable with jumpers set as master/cable select, connect the second HDD on the slave end of the IDE cable with jumpers set as slave/cable select, connect the power and you're good to go!! alternately you can also connect one of you HDDs on one IDE cable as master/slave (with correct jumper settings of course) and the other HDD on the other IDE cable, independent of the other HDD, as master/slave as you wish. connect your DVD drive on any of the remaining positions on the IDE cables, with it's own jumpers set properly. as for your 3rd question, there's no real need to fromat the 3rd HDD, but it would be wise to format it just to resolve conflicts if there is an Operating System installed in it. your computer won't know which one to boot from it haven't installed multiple OS on your system, and in any case, if there is a crash, the data on your second drive should remain in dependant on the first drive, unless of course, there is a fatal virus infestation on your system. GOOD LUCK!!! mc1csmo, here are a COUPLE decent tutorials with some pictures: http://www.helpwithpcs.com/upgrading/install-hard-drive.htm http://compreviews.about.com/od/tutorials/ss/DIYSecHD.htm and after you have it hooked up: http://www.vistasector.com/tutorials/1/installing-windows-xp/ |

Solve : Computer mice.. why the mouse idea has never changed?? |
Answer» Hello everyone,
(1) I say "Don't fix something that isn't broke". (2) There have been QUITE afew design improvements: Red Eye, Laser, Wireless, Etc. (3) Yes, as explained above.things have actually changed a lot. Check it out: one button... and two buttons... Don't forget trackballs, and the new "air mice" that don't even need to be on a surface. Part of the reason the mouse has (in most basic terms) not changed is that it's a device made to fit our hands, so changes made work within that constraint.i guess we could use some sort of helmet, kind of like the one apache gunners use. only drawback is the price tag. i have heard they cost around $100,000.Thanks a lot guy for all your opinions... Appreciate it, Wayne From Microsoft: and let's not forget all the so-called 'ergonomically' designed ones, _______ daniel_b take carehmm.... I wonder if you could use a wii-mote for a mouse.Hmmm couldnt say that I tried but you can make a palm pilot control some of the stuff. I figured that its easier INSTEAD of having several remotes. The mouse idea hasn't changed because it works. It's efficient enough and there aren't really any problems to point out about it. The mouse has all the neccessary functions for operating a computer. The mouse itself is easy to use, you dont' need much knowledge to know how to use it, you can buy it anywhere, its not that expensive to buy, its fairly durable, and its basically universal to any computer out there. Another reason why the mouse idea hasnt' changed is because of compatibility. All programs out there are most likely adapted to the mouse. If you were to invent a new piece of hardware controller, you'd have to create some drivers etc...from which all programs would be able to recognize etc... Its like the old battle between Mac and WINDOWS, APPLICATIONS built for windows will only run in windows, and vice versa. (the time before they managed to fuse their programs TOGETHER with compatibility features) Hope that helps yah out |

Solve : Dual monitor settings won't stay..and now XP won't load? |
Answer» I have a new system that I use for video editing. Running XP, dual 24" ACER monitors, NVIDIA video card, 2 internal SATA HDD's at 500 GB each (I think..more or LESS). When I got it up and running about 2 months ago, everything was good. Both monitors acted independently, started up in a flash etc. I've used it for a couple of projects already no problem. Then about 2 weeks ago I couldn't get both monitors to start up..my control panel settings said I only had 1 monitor and the NVIDIA control panel would not let me set it to dual monitors. After clicking on all the settings and restarting, suddenly it saw both monitors, but after every start up, it would go BACK to single monitor status. So tonight I was in the settings trying to get it to recognize both and I restarted. The XP splash came on, then the screen went black as it normally does before the sign in screen, only this time, both monitors power indicator lights lit (I was very hopeful) and then it hung there...no icons, no error message, nothing. It isn't completely black, it's that backlit-black that tells you its thinking. The CPU stops making noises and I can see my mouse cursor on both screens, but when I click, it beeps. No keyboard commands work (CTL+ALT+DEL). I restarted 4 more times, same thing. I went into the boot menu and I had a Warning! System BOOT failure! Reload defaults and reload. Or something similar. So I did..I went into Setup and F5 for system defaults and restarted. Same thing. I don't have my boot set to anything other than the hard drives, no other errors or anything. I powered down everything down, unplugged it from all power sources and started again. Nothing. I am so frustrated. I spent a lot of $$ for components that I have never had problems with and I am normally pretty good at figuring things out. Is there anything that any of you can see that I am missing? Besides a steady income because I am at a standstill? Thanks in advance.Sounds to me like a reformat is in order. But before that go to http://www.ntfs.com/products.htm and you might get some data back. That or get a sata to usb 2.0 or sata to esata to get data to another computer. What is the manufacturer and model number of your motherboard (or computer if a "brand name")? |

Now I can only print from my laptop if I plug in my printer. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling and that hasn't helped. When you go to printers the printer says error in the status field. HP doesn't have drivers on their site for Vista. It said to plug in the printer and Windows would install them automatically. I did that and still says Error. So you followed the procedure described here for Method one: USB CABLE connection?: INSTALLING the Printer Driver Located in the Windows Vista Operating SystemYes I did just that and it still doesn't work. What I don't understand though is it WAS working fine before this so I'm not sure if it's a Vista issue or what. Do I just need a NEW printer? You do have printer sharing enabled on your desktop computer, right? You must had it enabled, since this worked before. I have a Canon BJC-3000 printer that I've used with my laptop two ways, by directly connecting the printer to the laptop via USB, and by printing through the network with the printer CONNECTED to my desktop PC. I thought I'd mention that I have two instances of BJC-3000 in my Vista Printers panel; one shows the printer from installing it via direct connection, the other shows it as a networked printer with the name of my desktop computer being part of that printer title in the Printers panel. This might help: Troubleshoot network printer problems |

Solve : Old laptop on it's deathbed...? |
Answer» In an attempt to solve somebody elses issue (Harry 48 was looking for a jigsaw program) I BOOTED up my old thinkpad seeking the Visual Basic version 2 sample program, aptly named "JIGSAW". I opened it up to discover the battery's little cloth puller-upper soaked in acidSome internal spill maybe?perhaps, the cloth tab used to pull it out was fairly close to the ribbon from the keyboard, which is the access point (the keyboard flips up to reveal all the innards. I did't see anything. really it's the "divide overflow" error that concerns me, because I cannot possibly know the source... it seems to error out instead of displaying the C:\> prompt. I will try a bootable DOS disk, and see if I get the same error.WELL, I managed to find an old DOS 6 boot disk, and it shows the prompt... but the keyboard seems to be... well not working, to say the least. the "m" key, for example, yields "mv" at the prompt, "Enter" yields both enter and then "c" on the next prompt, pressing backspace is the same as pressing F3... arrgh. a pic of some of the innards- a little hard to tell anything but it wasn't a huge acid everywhere leak. not very helpful, I know. made some changes to config.sys and autoexec.bat to prevent it from LOADING the sound driver that hung it, and now it hangs on a different driver... skipping the startup files now yields a reboot... DOS is just so much FUN... new revelations regarding the laptop... oddly- I started it to try to copy specific files off of it, and used a boot-floppy. Without thinking I used to laptops keyboard to type the password... and it worked fine! the boot-disk still froze while booting up, though. I managed to get a prompt by skipping the startup files with F5, though. Encouraged, I decided to step through each line of config.sys and autoexec.bat. I managed to narrow down the cause to something in my autoexec.bat, either that, or the $IBMHIPD.SYS driver, for external keyboards (which oddly isn't necessary to use a external keyboard anyway). I decided to run our pal, chkdsk, as we speak it has encountered a few allocation errors in a few fairly random text files, cross-linked files, and so forth. appears to hang on all sorts of drivers and so forth... I might need to do a reformat for the first time on this fellow in 12 years... |

Solve : Computer screen width height ratio problem? |
Answer» My problem is; I'm not at all sure if the visible width and height ratio of my computer screen is correct. I have set the screen RESOLUTION at 800X600 pixels True color. The menu for my computer screen width and height settings has no 'default' option. Myself being a graphic designer, how do I ensure a particular image I see on the computer screen is in its original width and height ratio? Is there a software application that SETS this optimal ratio automatically? Any advice? Is this a desktop or LAPTOP computer? If a desktop, what make and model is your monitor? If a laptop, it's display is a "widescreen", right? And, if a laptop, what make and model?Quote from: soybean on April 05, 2009, 12:16:50 PM Is this a desktop or laptop computer? If a desktop, what make and model is your monitor? If a laptop, it's display is a "widescreen", right? And, if a laptop, what make and model? Mine is a desktop, 15 inch CRT monitor. 800 x 600 resolution is a normal and common resolution for a 15" monitor, a resolution which will display images in their correct proportions, the correct ratio between height and width. At 800 x 600 resolution, the "aspect ratio" is 1.33 (800/600). Any other resolution with the same aspect ratio, such as 1024 x 768, will maintain the correct proportions when viewed on your monitor. Solve : CPU at 100%, startup takes a long time? |
Answer» A few days ago my computer started acting really weird. It's always started very quickly but now it takes about ten minutes. My DESKTOP background will appear but the icons and taskbar take a few more minutes to load. When I check the CPU and memory usage the CPU is at 100% but the memory isn't anywhere NEAR being maxed out. Stats: Windows XP Professional, 1 gig memory, Pentium M Processor 1.8 Ghz. It's a laptop btw. The night before it started I fell asleep while surfing the net and when I woke up the fan was running but it was just on a random web page, I wasn't running a video or ANYTHING. I opened it up and checked the processor and it doesn't seem to be burned out or anything but I don't really know what to look for. Anyone have any ideas on troubleshooting so I can narrow down the problem? Oh yeah, sometimes when I move the computer it will just randomly shut off. Print these instructions out. |

Solve : Computer failing to boot, suspecting bad fan or cpu/motherboard failure? |
Answer» My husband reported the desktop rebooted by itself. Gave him the Safe Mode, etc. options to continue. All options led to another reboot. When I tried it out it sometimes BOOTED back to Windows, but would only stay on for approximately 25 minutes. Now it will not boot at all. One time both the back fan and the heat sink fan came on, but the heat sink fan puttered off. Now only the back fan comes on at power up. I am not versed with all of the workings of computers. |

Solve : Please Help ext HDD & in exam thursday::((? |
Answer» Hello - i could really, really do with some help or advice, i have all my college work backed up on an external Iomega 360 HDD. Everything was fine yesterday but today when i went to open some old drawn gs, everything is missing. i think the drive became disconnected as the error came up something like usb stopped you may loose data. That's about as bad as it gets with usb mass storage devices, they don't appreciate being disconnected when the system is accessing them. My immediate thought is that the MFT is incomplete for the files you say are lost and a file recovery program is necessary. However someone with greater knowledge of the problem than I have is sure to be along shortly to advise you. Do any of the files you are looking for appear in a file listing either in Explorer or a Command Prompt DIR listing? |

Solve : New DVD-RW drive malfunction? |
Answer» I've recently purchased an off-lease Dell GX270 tower, 3000 MHz, 1000 MB RAM, running Windows XP Pro, Service Pack 2. Everything seemed to be working fine until I purchased an LG external DVD-RW drive, specifically the GSA-E40L. When I put a cd into the drive the motor raced really fast and sounded like it was going to take flight. It started right after the drive read the cd and sometimes stopped after a couple of minutes, or rarely didn't do it at all. This whirring noise wasn't consistent with what I was doing at the time (starts before I began ripping songs into my computer and sometimes stops before I'm finished). It usually didn't stop racing until I ejected the cd. Anyway, I had seller send me a replacement drive and it is doing the same thing. I've tried it in 3 DIFFERENT 2.0 usb ports (including front) with same results. I also have other hardware plugged into this computer's ports with no problems, including ipod, cordless keyboard/mouse, Seagate external drive, etc. I don't have access to another computer with 2.0 ports to test the drive in. Sorry for writing a novel, but any suggestions? Deerpark, I think I love you.Well thank you very much. Let us know what you END up doing about the drive.Thanks. LG insists it's not supposed to be making this noise but I don't know...I wouldn't MIND it so much if I knew it was supposed to be doing this.Well it is theoretically possible you've simply gotten two bad drives in a row so maybe you should try for a 3rd. (I am more inclined to think it is simply a noisy model though.) Although you say you don't have access to another computer with USB 2 ports it would be great if you somehow could rule out your computer as a possible culprit. Are you sure you can't find another computer to test it on?I'm quite sure, with one possible exception and I'm working on that one. Moving away from the city has it's benefits, but living an hour away from friends with 2.0 ports isn't one of them.hey just wondering ...... does the drives you buy from that seller come with any of those warranty things? if it does then just send back to LG for a look.... just an ideaYes, and I've spoken to LG about it. They've been really great and didn't hesitate to offer to replace it, it's just that after waiting through researching and purchasing the right computer, and then going through the same exhaustive process for a dvd-rw drive and waiting for it's replacement, I'm about a quart low on patience. At some point I'd like to get back to ripping/burning before I'm too OLD to appreciate it. Have you considered an internal burner ? ? |
