Solve : windows 7 vs XP?

Answer»

Hi.

OK. I recently got an N-speed router. Found out that one of my network adapters was a bit dodgy so I got a 150 speed netgear MICRO-adapter. Now. I installed it on my windows 7 MACHINE - it was only picking up about 30-60 mbps from a 150 speed router and running rather slowly, so I tried using the adapter from my XP desktop. Works fine, picking up the full 150mbps (its a 150mbps adapter).

The strange thing is, I put the micro adapter into the XP machine, just to see if it would work (otherwise I would have to take it back to the shop). While its still only getting 30mbps it is running like an ABSOLUTE dream, whereas it was running at the same speed on windows 7 and it appeared very slow.

My QUESTION is, what EXACTLY is going on here? Is XP just THAT much better at handling networks?!

Cheers.

Solve : Two Modems, One DSL Connection?

Answer»

And, to be clear... My presumption is, once this is set up, I can move from room to room and my computer will bounce from "RJB" network to "RJB" network relatively seamlessly... Like when you stay at a hotel and log on in the room, and then open your laptop up again in the lobby, it's getting on to the same network even THOUGH it's a different access point.

Is that close to correct?Yes, that MAKES sense. The devices are CALLED ACESS Points.

They can also be called 'wireless BRIDGES.'
But not modesms. You tetle says two modems.

Solve : DOS 6.22 w TCP/IP MS Client (NDIS2) - like to send email from .BAT?

Answer»

Mods.. please forgive the cross post. The original post was likely in the wrong forum (DOS) and this is more of a networking Q.

I'd like to be able to send an email from a native DOS batch FILE.

The system is a 80486 / MSDOS 6.22 / MS Client 3.0 w server update. I'm using TCP/IP w NDIS2 DRIVERS. DOS is able to see WinXP shares but not Win7 but I am able to access the DOS shares from all versions of Windows with a few work-arounds. This is surprisingly stable.

I have seen many utilities that run Windows command line but not native DOS. All of the native DOS email utilities that I have come across require packet drivers. PC Pine and PEGASUS won't work with NDIS2 drivers.

If I can find a packet driver for my 3Com ELink 3C905 ISA version, would I be able to run packet and NDIS2 drivers together ? Is there a shim for this SORT of THING ?

Thanks for your help

Solve : Networking problems with Xbox Live - NAT settings?

Answer»

Ok, So I have a personal network at home, and I have just recently started using Xbox Live on the network. I ran across a problem though which inhibits me from joining parties (most of the time)... My NAT settings are Moderate.

My SOURCE for internet access is a Clear 4G Mobile Hotspot, and I am using a Buffalo WALE-AG300N to convert from WIFI to Ethernet. I asked a guy on the buffalo forums, and he said that the Buffalo device doesn't have any kind of NAT settings, and that the Clear would have the router setting for things like that.

The only problem I'm having now, is understanding what I need to do... (I'm not too network savvy by the way). I have all the ports FORWARDED as DESCRIBED on the Xbox Live website (53, 80, 88 & 3074) for the IP addresses of both the buffalo and Xbox, however they still don't work. I have only been able to get my Xbox to connect using DHCP ASSIGNED IP settings, but that won't work for the forwarding...

Anyway, I would love it if someone could help me out with this.

Thanks!

Sincerely,
kyle_engineer

Solve : URL encoding/decoding question.?

Answer»

This is an example from a BOOK I've read, but I don't understand how it works.

A WEB admin may attempt to block SQL injections by blocking input CONTAINING the apostrophe character.

However, an input containing double encoding may be able to defeat the filter.

eg : %2527

Why is this so ? The book stated that %2527 will become %27 after decoding it. What's the process behind it ?

GUIDANCE is appreciated

Solve : Setting up Ubuntu Untangle on Dell Power Edge T100 II Server Machine?

Answer»

I have purchased a Dell PowerEdge T110 II server, which is to be used for routing internet connections to numerous users. For this purpose, I intend installing Linux Untangle OS on it. The server machine I have comes with an embedded NIC and an additional PCIe NIC (OEM installed).

Being a newbie when it comes to servers, I am facing issues from the word go. I got the Untangle installation disk and was able to install the OS WITHOUT any trouble. I did not change any settings on the server configuration before installing the OS.

After OS installation, the Untangle Wizard open automatically. It goes well for the first two steps. In the network settings, it shows both the NICs, one as internal and the other as external. I run into problems in configuring the external card. My ISP has provided me a static IP address. The modem provided by the ISP does not have DHCP, so I TAKE it that I should enter the same IP address that was provided to me by the ISP for the external card. However, it does not work, and I get an error message.

I reiterate that I have not changed any settings by using Ctrl-S, Ctrl-E or F10 in the boot up process, as I was not sure of what was required to be done.
Are you using this as an edge firewall? What error message do you see?

In an edge firewall environment, the Untangle firewall would typically be ASSIGNED the external IP address and use NAT to send TRAFFIC between internal and external networks (LAN and WAN).

Solve : Unintentionally unsecured WiFi and now other are using it....please help?

Answer»

I have a Windows 7 pc with a Netgear wireless router and am definately a beginner so sorry. When I tried to change the password with some instructions I had, well lets just say it did not work. Anyway to change the password, secure our wifi without touching the router again? The push button to reset it should have reset it back to factory defaults of no security and default password. Only way I can see the password not working is either #1 someone who is stealing your internet sees your connection drop and come back on and quickly went in to change the password or #2 your device has been compromized by being Hack Reflashed to have a password other than the default.

If you seriously cant get back into your device to lock people out and the default password is not working, I'd get a new wireless router. If it has been hacked with a Black FLASH someone could be using the logger feature to steal info between your home system and wherever you go on the WEB. Known as a Monkey in the Middle Attack! If your password was left as default they could have remotely flashed it on you from anywhere in the world.

If your device does seem to act as if its been flashed to not have a default password that is OEM for that device, I'd seriously JUNK it, and check your online banking etc once secured under a new device without the default password.

The other issue to mention is that if this is an older device it may have been out there long enough for Black Hats to find a vulnerability with it. Its rare for a networking hardware device to be flawed especially from Netgear, but its not impossible. I had some 6 year old routers that I replaced a short time ago because I found it unusual that they would lock up almost as if a DoS attack and they were Linksys SR41's. Both routers in a matter of days had the same issue of broadband internet down yet the broadband modem was happy and blinking like crazy as if there was traffic, and the devices non responsive to local admin. I find it rather strange that 2 devices of the same make and model also using different power PACKS kept locking up tight. So I replaced them with newer units with more security features and the problems were gone. The newer routers also support IPv6 in addition to older IPv4 addressing.Follow the manual of your netgear router OR look online for the PDF manual by your search engine, typing model and brand on how to secure your wireless connection. You could also post the complete router detail for us to search if there is one available.
Some information about wifi security - http://www.pcworld.com/article/130330/how_to_secure_your_wireless_network.htmlCan the OP use the router directly on Ehternet?
He needs to tell us the model # of the router.

Solve : Ping Command Output?

If we are pinging with 56 bytes, why does it show 64 bytes when actually pinging?

PING www.example.com (192.0.43.10) 56(84) bytes of data.
64 bytes from 43-10.any.icann.org (192.0.43.10): icmp_seq=1 ttl=250 time=80.5 ms

108 bytes from localhost (127.0.0.1): icmp_seq=1 ttl=64 time=0.022 ms

Why is it showing 108 bytes instead of 100 bytes?

All ICMP PACKETS have an 8 byte header and variable sized data section. The first 4 bytes of the header will be consistent. The first byte is for the ICMP TYPE. The SECOND byte is for the ICMP code. The third and fourth bytes are a CHECKSUM of the entire ICMP message. The contents of the remaining 4 bytes of the header will vary based on the ICMP type and code. In this CASE (ICMP echo request and replies), they will be composed of identifier (16 bits) and sequence number (16 bits).

Solve : Spam emails , SMTP got blacklisted why ??

Answer»

Dear Experts

I have got a client who has a domain called : forum.com.nz (made it up) that is hosted by : APX Company (i.e. not his ISP provider).
Website designed by JDK Company not his hosting not his ISP provider.

Client internet provide is a nationalISP.

Client is using an outlook to retrieve mails for his domain (i.e. forum.com.nz)

POP3 : mail.forum.com.nz
SMTP : smtp.nationalips.com

Before the problem happened I realised there are a lot of spams flooding to his outlook.

All of a sudden the client called me that outgoing email stopped and when I tested his outlook there was an error message for the outgoing messages (not incoming), forgot what was that error.
Checked his public ip against mxtoolbox.com ,,,,,realized that it was blacklisted ,,,it took up to 73 hours to be relisted.

I WANT to understand the concept behind the problem; the reason for that before the problem of the spam hosting provider (APX company) told website designer company (JDK Company) that their security system caught suspicious codes.

My question if the spam emails are flooding via the hosting provider’s server (APX company) to the client email (my case is outlook),,,, why the outgoing SMTP (public ip address) for the ISP provider got blacklisted ? Is that because that ip address was used for incoming and outgoing emails ? If this is the case why outlook testing showing okay for incoming but not for outgoing ?

Regards
Often SMTP is blocked. by local ISP. Some ISPs will not let you have a private SMTP. The problem is so big they blacklist all but a few.

The solution is to use another service for outgoing mail. Ask your ISP about this. The problem is a lot more complex than it sounds. Is the client running an on-premises mail server? If so, and particularly if the client is behind a broadband connection, it should consider using a smarthost server (all mail is delivered to a single upstream mail server which then handles ultimate delivery). As Geek says, if you're looking at low volumes, it's best to use the email service provider's outgoing SMTP. Much better than attempting direct delivery.

If we're talking about higher volumes of mail, companies like MailGun and SendGrid offer suitable services. Personally I am the architect of an enterprise mail delivery system that sends ~ 100k monthly emails via SendGrid. It's working very well, with minimal "noise". That option does require GOOD knowledge of email delivery principles though. You're effectively becoming you're own ISP for mail delivery, albeit outsourcing the actual delivery mechanism. There should be NO traffic from his public IP to anything other than his isp smtp server his using for outgoing, even then it should most likely be using TLS and not the standard 25.

But if his public IP was sending spam directly, an infected box on his network - then sure his public IP could get blacklisted - and once blacklisted its quite possible that the smtp server he is using as smarthost would block him from sending email through it.

since his outlook is using a smarthost (isp or other smtp server to RELAY its email) there is NO reason why 25 should be allowed outbound from his network - other than maybe too his smarthost IP.. Then again this should most likely be on a different port normally DEFAULT to 587 or 465 if smtp with ssl, etc.

Your going to need to get his public IP off a blacklist if he wants to relay email through any smtp server that uses blacklisting.

And as already posted - actual details would be most helpful in helping you!! not made up domains, etc.

Solve : "This is probably not the site you are looking for!"?

Answer»

Let me start off by saying, I am sorry if this is the incorrect forum.

This issue: http://i.imgur.com/RY0N8Gl.png has been plaguing my family's internet for a while and I'm finally sick of it.

The issue comes out of nowhere randomly. We could go weeks without the issue and it pops up out of nowhere. When it happens, it happens to every device connected to our wi-fi.

When I say every device, I mean every device, from my dad's Tracfone to the family computer to my PS3 to my mom's new Samsung GALAXY S4 (seen here, just now: http://i.imgur.com/GAtjvbk.jpg).

It also happens on every browser, too. Chrome, Firefox, IE, STOCK browsers, etc.

The problem lasts from a few minutes to a few hours and disappears as soon as it appears.

The strangest thing is that when I try to recreate the issue in the Tor browser by changing my IP address, it doesn't appear.

We have tried contacting our ISP with no luck. I have search all over the internet for the solution to the issue with no definite answer.

Any ideas?SOUNDS to me like your DNS provider (if you haven't changed it, it'll be your ISP) if it's happening with every device. Try changing your DNS on one device to something ELSE - Google DNS would be a good start. I use OpenDNS myself. This can then be set on your router later on if it solves the issue, but try it on one PC first.Thank you, I'll definitely try it out!Quote from: networkproblemsthrowaway on June 23, 2013, 04:00:45 PM

No problem, let us know how it goes

Welp, it's been exactly one month of no problems, and it happened again on the one device I changed the DNS on just this morning. I didn't get a screenshot, but it was trying to redirect twitter.com to some other website I forgot to save. I tried a device that had its original DNS and it also had the same problem. Sorry if this thread is too old now, just thought I would update real quick. I just don't know what to do, this is just ridiculous and frustrating.

EDIT: It's also happening in TOR browser too. It might just be Twitter freaking out.How utterly bizarre. Thanks for updating us, but I'll be honest, I have no idea what could now be causing it.
Hopefully, SOMEONE else will have a suggestion.Quote from: Calum on July 24, 2013, 09:41:22 AM

For now, I'm going to assume Twitter is somehow freaking out, because it seems like too much of a coincidence for the problem to happen across devices with different DNSs and even different IP addresses. Thanks for all the help. I'll try to keep this updated.

You weren't changing your external IP, you were changing the LAN IP. If you have a really good reason for needing a different IP you can TALK to your ISP and they can change it for you. They won't however do it just on a whim or daily basis I just need it changed once. You also won't be able to choose what your external IP is changed to.

Solve : MAC Filtering in wireless router with wireless access points.?

Answer»

Hello Everyone,

I have a small network in my home building which is consist of Modem => Wireless Router => and 2 Wireless Access Points. Attached you can find my network diagram.

My question is about MAC filtering security. I configured MAC filtering security in my router where i can ADD and delete MAC address easily but i can not get my access points setting page, when i try to open access point setting page it displayed main router setting page I checked the network properties in computer and found it is taking the router getway address and due to this I am unable to access the setting page. Plz note access points are connected with router through network cable and my network is configured on DHCP.

My attention is to access the wireless access points setting page so that i can add and delete MAC address from any side. I appreciate if any one can explain the procedure.

Big Thanks,
Tauseef Ahmed

[recovering disk space, attachment deleted by admin]You have a lot of APs! Nothing wrong with that.
You post is not clear as to why you must use MAC address.
Questions:
Which router make model?
What make and model of the APs ?

NORMALLY one would first give each AP a unique local IP before deployment. *
The IPs are in the subset, but in or out of the DHCP range.
Possible example:
Router is 192.168.1.254
DHCP range is 192.168.1.100 thru 192.168.1.149
The APs could have FIXED IPs of
AP unit 1 = 192.169.1.141
AP unit 2 = 192.169.1.142
AP unit 3 = 192.169.1.153
AP unit 4 =192.169.1.154
You would write these numbers on an index cared or sticky note. Or else put information in the HOSTS. file in Windows.

Does this help any?

* It can be done after deployment if you have physical access to then router. You change the IP of the router, connect APs one at a time and set the IP. Last reset the router IP.

Thanks for the reply Geek. I will try this procedure.
I want to use MAC filtering as a security purpose. As you will be aware of that in Windows 7 you can see the password in network properties then anyone can connect with network. In last month I have experienced that lot of peoples were using my network. I changed my password twice but this was useless. You are Welcome if there is any better way for this purpose.
I have Dlink Router DIR-615 (Configured by service provider) afterward I have installed Dlink 16 port switch from that I have connected 4 Access Points of Dlink DWL-3200.Understood. Now I see your point.
Sorry, I don't have ifull nformation on how to use MAC filtering. But it should be in the document for the main device, the D -ink DWL-3200.
In any CASE, you have to be able to get to every AP by using a local IP. Once you have the network up and running. you can set the D-Link to reject request that do not COME from you PCs based on MAC.

As I understand, the wireless is the security weak point. You will need to correctly identify the PCs you want to have wireless connection and exclude any others.
This video nis about using a Linksys router
http://www.onguardonline.gov/media/video-0019-linksys-wireless-network-restrict-access-mac-address
Maybe that will help.
Some routers help you find the MAC of the PC you want.

Also, disallow router control via wireless. That way only a PC on the LAN by wire can change the router.

Many Thanks let see how it will work.

Solve : Why is internet browsers not recognizing internet signal??

I just purchased this USB wireless router:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA24P0PF0492

I installed the SOFTWARE from the supplied disc that came with it and plugged in the usb router... COMPUTER recognized it and gives me a message that it is connected. Incidentally I am connecting to my iphone as that is what I use for my wireless hotspot. So even though the PC says its connected in the dialog window for network activity, I try to check email or launch IE or Google Chrome and nothing is FINDING the internet.!!?? Why would that be? The computer said it found the wireless network. So how do I get it connected to the internet? Any suggestions here?Is it plugged into a phone line or cable connection? Do you have internet service at your house?
It is just a wireless usb adapter plugged into back of PC. THen it grabs the wireless signal from my iphone to give internet to the PC. I mentioned that in my initial comments. The signal is recognized but when I open IE or any browser...nothing. So NONE of the PC applications that require internet is recognizing. Why is that?

If you are running Windows 7 go to Control Panel - Network & Sharing Center. For the connection, does it SHOW Internet access? Try to let Windows "repair".Running Windows Vista. It does show that it connects to the iphone. But when I launch internet browsers...nothing. No connection.

Solve : How can I get past the home internet filter??

Answer»

I'm living at my father's house and he has a content filter set up on our home network (it's called opendns) through a router. He is very religious so I can't really ask him to take it off. I have a computer savvy friend who said there is a way to MAKE my computer bypass the filter. I don't know how though. He said in order to do it he would have to be in range of the home network, but he's always too busy to come by my place to work on it. He did say it's fairly easy though, so could someone walk me through how to do this?

It is a WPK2 secured network, and the router in netgear. I know the password to connect to the network (obviously), but I don't know how to edit any router settings from my computer or anything like that.It is your father's settings and his connection to the Internet. I think you should respect his property and his choices in this particular circumstance.

Except I am 23. I would live by myself but I am getting over a medical issue I'd ask him to unfilter what sites you are requesting unblocked and if he unblocks them then your all set. Either this or pay for your own internet if an open wifi is not available to hop onto. *I wouldn't have your friends alter the router to do away with the OpenDNS settings your dad set up.

Just bought a Gateway FX6860. (Bad idea, I know). The internet was working fine up until about 2 days ago, and it just stopped. I looked at the Windows update history, and there were TWO critical patches, but for some reason the roll-back function REFUSES to work. I tried connecting via cat-5 cable, same deal. The cat-5 card is integrated into the motherboard, separate from the wireless card (pci-express). I can find and attempt to connect to a wireless NETWORK, but it only gets to limited connectivity. No IP is set up (so it won't ALLOW me to renew my IP leases via command prompt). I've tried two different routers, three different wireless cards (just in case), and no changes. I've uninstalled and re-installed wireless drivers, and killed my firewall just for good measure. When windows troubleshoots, it states an issue with the connection adapters. I am about to reformat my computer as an all out last ditch effort to fix this piece before I take it in, but I have the sneaking suspicion that it will not fix the issue. Any Ideas where to go from here? (obviously my laptop runs wireless just fine)Your Gateway FX6860 desktop worked before or after installing the wireless card? And both connections do run at the same time as wired and wireless?I do have one THOUGHT, but first do not reformat your computer as I had a similar problem and it did not change anything. If you can download a patch to a flash drive and then copy it to the computer having the problem it might correct the problem.
Another ?, do you have more than one system to connect on line?
if so use it, if not find some one who can help to get what you need.

Solve : Router issue...??

Answer»

At least I'm guessing its a router issue. Lately I've been having a problem where the connection to my Playstation 3 is not quite right. I can get online just fine but when I get into a game it will boot me within about a minute. Usually I don't get that far and it will boot me before I can even get into a game. My computer works perfectly fine and it shows no sign of dropping at all if I'm surfing or downloading or whatever.

When I hook up directly to the modem everything works just fine so I figured it was a router thing. Well I tried 2 different routers, with updated firmware, wired and wireless, with the same result. I also tried another PS3 with no change. I've tried everything I can think of like opening ports/DMZ/messing around with settings to find the problem but nothing helps. I also called my ISP and they claim everything is fine with the modem.

ANYWAY I've tried 2 of everything and done all I could. Can anyone think of anything that I'm missing? Thanks. I am unfamiliar with ps whatevers. but when i am tracking down a network drop problem (boot just don't fit the bill) I usually set up a ping on one of the pc's and LET it hammer out to keep the connection "hot". If i add a second machine and the first stops pinging then it usually is one stealling the others network address. Change either one or the other and the first goes back to pinging and then the second will also ping and not cause lockups or drop outs.

It could be that one of the units is set to dhcp and the other hard coded into the dhcp.Hello sounds like a IP address conflict. Make sure both devices r set for DHCP.my ps3 is not reading my ethernet cord. i can plug the cord in the router 2 my laptop but it doesnt read when i plug it in my ps3.

I'm guessing its a router issue.
Well, you have done the legwork. You said you have tried two of everything.
So, from your post I understand the the problem only happens when you are using a router, the Playstation and a game Is that right?
You may have answered your own question.
Routers have lots of work to do. The have built in firewall and lots of stuff that can get in the way. Like not letting some ports pass. Or pass slowly.
Is the problem just with one game? You may want to try a site that has people that work a lot with the Playstation 3. ok so i have a time warner cable router that i pay 9.99 a month for and i cant seem 2 get online with my ps3 with a wired connection. it doesnt even read tht its plugged it but if i plug my laptop in it it reads fine. could a firewall or closed ports cause this or do u think it would just give me an error? wen i go 2 internet connection settings on my ps3 it says plug in ethernet cable when it is its just not reading it. please help.. i dont want to buy a LINKSYS router if its my ps3.

please help me
-DustinIt is an router issue.
Sorry, I do not have any experience with the Playstation 3.
Ypou could buy a router that is recommended for it. Or, you could try a software program that overcomes the conflicts. I ah not way of telling you which will work.
Burt there is free software the does NOT require you to flash the router.

Some of the forums you go to try to get you to buy some software that has little to do with the problem. The forum stays away from that.

Here is a link to a commercial product that you can try fist..
http://www.purenetworks.com/
Do NOT buy anything. Just ry to free stuff. It may not do a bit of good, but it is free to try. Plus and it uninstalls clean after a two nag questions.
And yes, the Links modem is what people recommend for the PS3, but the Buffalo is aldo good
ok so lets say it is a router issue shouldnt it at least read that i have a cord connected and maby give me some kind of dns error? wen i connect wirelessly i get dns error 80710102. it reads the router but wont make online connection. its plugged in correctly. its a ethernet cable not a phone cord so please don't suggest those thingsHello
Read this link
http://www.psu.com/forums/showthread.php?t=54714

Check the IP address of all devices hook up to the router. Start>run>cmd type ip CONFIG /all
Write down the IP of every device connect to the router and compare. Write back and let us know.my ambit router wont even detect my ps3 is connected 2 my router (wired connection) theres a firewall i cant turn off because time warner does not let me alter my router settings. is that the problem? they also dont allow port forwarding is that another possibility? or do u think my ps3 needs repair? wirelessly i get a dns error 807101012. but i want a wired connection. help me pleaseee

--DustinSorry I couldn't reply, I was working out of town for a couple weeks. Anyway when I got back a couple days ago I took my modem in and exchanged it for a new one. Everything worked fine for about a day, then it suddenly the problem returned. Then today I tried hooking up another router and it worked for about half an hour before the problem returned. So now I've tried at least 2 of EVERYTHING, and I've looked into pretty much every response on here.

Just the way the problem DISAPPEARED for a while and suddenly came back is confusing me even more. Does this bit of new info help at all? Any thoughts appreciated. Thanks.

ok but i dont care if thts wat happens if i switch routers i just want to know plain and simple--- my ps3 wont reconise the ethernet cable is connected it just doesnt see it. could router fire wall or no port forwarding cause this? idc if you think a site will help i just want knowledge a yes or a no. ive been beating myself up 4 this for like 4 weeks please help

Solve : Directly networking two computers?

Answer»

I just bought a new computer and would like to transfer files from my old ONE. My old computer is XP Home and my new computer is Vista Home Premium. I am trying to connect the two COMPUTERS via an ethernet cable, but I am having difficulty. When I connect the two computers with this cable and enable the local area connection, it has a limited connection. Do I need to assign IP and DNS addresses to both computers? What addresses should I assign and do I need to do anything ELSE?U can not connect 2 PC with a straight (patch) Ethernet cable to each other. U have 2 options use a crossover cable or switch. Follow this link for more details.

http://www.conniq.com/HomeNetworking_DCC.htm Just an additional thought: Some network cards have crossover autosensing, so you may get AWAY with using a straight through. You will need to assign IP addresses statically. DNS and gateway are irrelevant in this setup. Try setting one PC to be 192.168.1.1 and the other to be 192.168.1.2. Remember to set back to automatic/DHCP once you're done (if this is what your normal use requires).

Solve : Cannot click "connect to a network"?

I'm running VISTA Basic (home edition?) on a Dell Inspiron.

I am set up to automatically connect to my University wireless account, and have no trouble with that.

When I'm in another location (PUBLIC library, coffee shop, etc), my computer detects the wireless networks are available. However, when I CLICK on "Connect to a Network," NOTHING happens. It's as if the link is "unclickable."

I have tried updating the wireless driver, etc. I can connect to ANYONE's modem/router with an ethernet cable just fine.

I have a HP computer running windows Vista 500GB hard drive and 3GB of ram I have verizon Internet service. I have Verizon DSL I just moved my computer out into my LIVING room and hooked it up to my TV. I dont have internet out in my living room tho because I'm not close enough to a phone jack. Is their a way I could USE a wireless internet card and some sort of router to pick up a signal to my computer in my living room?Verizon DSL service should offer a wireless DSL router.Oh, they do?I donno. I have a hard time reading.
You read it and TELL us what it says.
http://www22.verizon.com/Residential/HighSpeedInternet/Installation/Installation.htmIt doesn't say anything about router.
I asked, because I wasn't aware of any ISP giving away free routers, and I though, you knew You are right! Thank you for reading that., I just look at PICTURES and I thought I saw a wireless router. Somewhere else they tell you the you get a wireless router with the upper level plan. Too much for me. You can contact Verizon and ask which is the best router that will work with their system. They may give you a hard time, but they will give you the information. Than you can purchase one at your local store.

I had to do that with Comcast. Their routers are expensive, but the router I had didn't work with their system. Quote from: Broni on May 05, 2009, 06:25:06 PM

Oh, they do?

yes...one of the business I support has a router provoded by them and it has BOTH wired AND wireless...I got it hooked up wired in the outside office(where the router is mounted)
and wireless to the back office to 2 different machines...!!!

opps...sorry may have spoke too soon...that business is FIOS NOT DSL....sorry

but on checking more...it appears they provide wireless dsl also, see here

and the 7500 does the trick...!!!, as may the others...

Solve : Iternet is slow?

Answer»

Hello all. I have an annoying problem with my internet connection. It is cable internet. I pay for the fastest speed that my isp offers.

Most of the time the internet is very fast. If I go on youtube, the videos will load very quickly. Most websites will COME up in just a few seconds.

Other times, the internet is incredibly slow. Videos will take over an hour to load. Most of the time I GIVE up. I like to watch shows on HULU. Some days these videos will just freeze and take forever to load. This will happen for a few days, then It becomes fast again.

I use a router and have 3 computers on my network. It's the same thing with all of them. When the internet slows down I will turn off the computers and unplug the router and modem. I wait about 10 minutes and then plug the modem back in and let it reboot. Then I plug the router back in and let all of the lights come back on. Then I turn one of the computers back on. This had no effect. The internet is still slow.

I live very close to a college. COULD the large number of students in my area that are surfing the web be the reason for these slow downs?

Someone please help me. I've called my isp and they always give me the run around. they just tell me to reboot my router.

If you need more information let me know. You have to definitely start with your ISP. Call them, and ask them to come to your place, and check your lines.
If three computers experience same slowness, there is something WRONG on ISP side.
May be as simple as just bad modem.

Meanwhile, you can try to connect just one computer straight to the modem, bypassing the router, and see, if same thing happens.
May be bad router, as well.If your ISP tech guys are just going to keep telling you to reboot computer, then ask then to send a guy over to check out the issue and get it resolved ASAP else you will jump ship to a different ISP.

Your router .... try connecting directly to modem without router connected and if ok, then ISP isn't the problem. Thanks for the quick responses.

When I was unplugging my router I noticed that the ethernet connector was slightly loose from the modem. I PUSHED the connector back into the modem and it clicked. I made sure all of the other connections were secure. Then I got back on the internet.

Guess what? That fixed it! The cable was just out a little bit. My internet is fast again now!

Thanks alot guys. You are the best. Hey, nice job yeah great!

Solve : best wireless network card for gaming??

Answer»

I do not know of any major vendor that does NOT support Windows XP.
The hard thing is to find the ones that support Linux;
Here are some that give support to Linux:
Acer
Asus
D-Link
Dell
HP Compaq
Linksys
SMC

But that is not a full list at all. I copied it from a Linux site.
And they did not EVEN mention Realtek . Because Realtek is more of a chip maker and not a big retailer.
More important, IMO, is to buy from a store you trust.
That's great, except I'm running windows xp 64-bit. I NEED a CARD that supports windows xp x64, NOT Linux, vista, or standard xp, because the ones I've seen that support standard xp DO NOT SUPPORT XP 64-BIT. I apologize if that seemed cross, but it didn't SEEM like my information was clear. i was able to get a card, it's a trendnet wireless n, so i'm good now. thanks for the replies, gents.

Solve : Need help getting onto new wireless network?

Answer»

Hi everybody,
My roomate just purchased a new wireless router (a D-link DIR-615). It works fine with his desktop, but not with my Toshiba portege laptop with windows vista VERSION 6.0. Everytime I try to connect the network it asks me for username, password and logon domain. I know the password and username, I think the trouble is with the domain. I've tried entering a bunch of different things for that but I guess none of them are RIGHT....everytime it gives me the message "Windows cannot connect. Wireless authentification failed."
Can anyone give me some advice as to what to enter here, or if there is some other problem besides this? I've NEVER had a problem CONNECTING to any wireless network before so I don't know what to do. NORMALLY I can work through it and figure it out...but I guess not in this case

Help!
Thank youHello

If it is asking for a domain, trying typing the name of the work group. A Domain is usually the name network. Check your setting on the desktop. Go My Computer> right click> propertiy> computer name. Look at the setting in this page and make sure they match your settings.

Solve : Need help about VOIP & VPN?

Answer»

Hi,

I want to know about what is the real explanation of VPN & VOIP.
Because I'm working in UAE. Lot of people using Some VOIP software for make calls. resonantly UAE ISP has blocked some programs & they announced, if some one trying to call or even log-in to the software they can trace & tap the calls. afterword they will call the police. so i have doubt about this story.

I also using one software but UAE ISP couldn't blocked it yet. and i asked them about this & they said it is not possible to trace or tap the call is software using VPN system. my one is VPN software. but i have no idea about other Freecall & InterVoip softwares.

That is the main reason why i want to know more about these technologies. If some one can explain about this matter please MAIL me on [emailprotected] or reply on here.

Suranga VOIP is voice over internet protocol. This allows sound to travel over the internet, much like how it does with the old telephone system but better. VPN is virtual private NETWORK. This allows you to have several computers connected together with some privacy over the internet. So it actually allows your computer to TALK with other computers over public airways, with some privacy.

I hope this makes SENSE. If I explained it incorrectly, please correct me.Thanks for the Answer to my Post. and i want to know, If i using VPN system anyone can trace my data? even ISP? and If i using VOIP software (eg. Net 2 phone) in VPN system can ISP or Telecom company trace or TAP it?

Solve : Unable to access https sites.?

Answer»

Trying to help a friend.

She has an active running internet connection. She is unable to access any of her business web HTTP(s) sites; access is denied to the SECURE page.

I had her make sure the web site addresses are listed as a 'trusted site' in the tools security tab.

I had her make sure all her web site security settings were set to default to allow the setting of cookies.

Window's firewall is 'on'.

Any suggestions.

Thanks Tom

I don't know anything about certificates if that is an issue. What browser?Sorry. IE7

Go to options > security > "Use SSL" (etc.)

That mightn't be exactly right, but you should be able to find it.

Does this help?I went to the security tab. I clicked on the trusted site icon. There is an additional tab 'sites'. It just says that all addresses that are listed will be checked by the zones security settings. I can't find and SSL etc tabs or options.

I forgot to mention. She let Windows do a network diagnostic. The only thing odd showed: HTTPS Not Connected.

Not sure...

Give me a minute to "root out" my IE7... Okay, go to Tools > Advanced tab > Security, and check the following:

Use SSL 2.0
Use SSL 3.0
Use TLS 1.0

Now how is it?All they choices are checked. No change.1. Click Start, and then click Run.

2. In the Open box, TYPE one of the following
commands, and then click OK (copy and paste is your
best friend):

regsvr32 softpub.dll
regsvr32 wintrust.dll
regsvr32 initpki.dll
regsvr32 dssenh.dll
regsvr32 rsaenh.dll
regsvr32 gpkcsp.dll
regsvr32 sccbase.dll
regsvr32 slbcsp.dll
regsvr32 cryptdlg.dll

4. Click OK when you receive the message that says
DllRegisterServer in FileName succeeded.

5. Repeat for each command line listed ABOVEI am having the same problem as here. Did this final fix work?

Solve : Why such variation in ISP Functioning??

Answer»

Hi Geeks!

I wonder, why some ISPs offer only "Fixed IP Address" to their subscribers whereas others rely on "Dynamic Scheme" of IP dispersion!?

Where does this difference lies in the Architecture & is this trend specific to Cable BB Service providers allotting 'Fixed IP' whereas ADSL providers relying on 'Dynamic IP Addressing'? A fixed or "Static" IP Address is simply an IP Address that you have assigned to you every time you connect to the internet.
This means that your ISP's DHCP server (Dynamic host configuration protocol) will give you the same address.

A dynamic address is an address that usually changes each time you log in.
The biggest problem with dynamic addresses seems to be mainly for people who have servers in their homes, since the address to their servers may change.

Dial-up users almost always have a dynamic IP address. I have found that most DSL subscribers have dynamic addresses which change every so often, but not every day. An IP address costs MONEY. If you do not use it all the time the provider might 'loan' it to someone else until you need it again. And many WEB services 'share' one IP number so that several servers appear to have the same address.

Example:
http://geek9pm.com is on
74.55.90.178
But if you goto :
http://74.55.90.178 <== Not recommended!
You will get some other site.
Check http://Network-Tools.com to verify this.
It says:
Quote

IP address: 74.55.90.178
Host name: geek9pm.com
Alias:
geek9pm.com
74.55.90.178 is from United States(US) in region North America

If you want to know more about IP and DNS, go get a book at the library. No joke. They write BOOKS about that kind of stuff. Good for insomnia.

Geek-9pm: Do you use a service like Dyndns?
I was thinking about setting up a second server over at my dads house to host part of an IRC network and to do more webhosting (my server is currently set up on an extremely fast connection, however, it has limited bandwidth)... but its a dynamic address. No, I use the cheapest service I can get. Many hosting companies do not want you to use IRC cause it sucks bandwidth real bad.
On and impulse I bought some super cheap deb space with fair bandwidth. It is one of those companies that oversells is service knowing that lots of dummies like me will never use that much bandwidth. IRC doesn't use much bandwidth at all... its all text, though quite a lot of text, it doesn't really add up.
I think my IRC server uses less than 7MB a day, however, I would have to check this out again... my bandwidth logging isn't working right.
I think their biggest problem is the fact that its an open datastream, constantly running, and on weird ports.

Solve : Home Wireless Networking Issues?

Answer»

Currently, I'm EXPERIENCING a wireless issue that is confounding me. My home has a DSL connection using a Verizon Westall Versalink 327W router, and a Linksys WRE54G Range Expander boosting the signal for the second floor, with the signal itself using 64bit WEP encryption. A desktop on the second floor, using a Belkin G Wireless Network ADAPTER, is able to pick-up the signal and access the internet just fine; however, I can not figure out how to get my laptop internet access, whether right by the main router or upstairs using the boosted signal. I am able to get it to where it believes it is connected to the network and is sending information, but it is not receiving any information back. Though not overly intimate with specifications, I have tried adjusting IP addresses and such for the laptop and running various connection software, all to the same result. The laptop is getting a bit old and not running as smoothly anymore, but PRIOR til now had not had any issue connecting to wireless networks. While this probably is a bit vague to get an immediate solution, could someone suggest a course of action to figure out why the laptop is failing to communicate properly with the network?Could you provide more information REGARDING the operating system and type of equipment you are using for the laptop.

ThanksThe laptop is an IBM Thinkpad R52, with Windows XP and Atheros 11 a/b/g Wireless LAN Mini PCI ADAPTOR II. The provided Thinkvantage Access Connection software started bugging last year, and despite new downloads I could never get it to start back up again, but I'd been accessing fine on networks with a T-Mobile Connection Manager.

Solve : one computer disconnecting from network??

Answer»

I really hope I'm not asking something that I could find with the search feature but it keeps coming up with an error message. Searching online has been asolutely no help.

I have 3 computers SET up on my wireless network and a few weeks ago I got a new Dell laptop that connected to the internet just fine until LAST week. I suddenly started being randomly disconnected from the network. To get back on I have to go into "Connect to a Network" and hit connect. Usually it will say I'm connected then when I put my mouse over the icon in the toolbar it will say "Identifying..." and it never connects, so then I will have to disconnect and repeat the process until I'm really connected. The network I'm using always has full signal strength.

When I view my wireless networks theres a list of at most 5 networks that is constanly changing, some will be on the list for a little while and other times it will be there for a couple of seconds. I've noticed that whenever one of them enters or leaves the network is when I get disconnected.

I tried system restore the first day this happened thinking I might have accidentially changed something but it didn't help so I reinstalled Vista and that didn't do anything either.

Could they may be hackers or neighbors, because the network is unsecured, but wouldn't I see them on every computer's network list? Mine is the only one having problems. I know its not the signal because I've used the exact same laptop model in the exact spot with no problems.

Any ideas what could be wrong?

-----
My second question is about how to secure my network. I've read everything I can find online about how to secure it but I followed the directions and couldn't connect to the internet. I've disabled broadcasting of my ssid and changed it from the default name but when I tried to set a WPA pre-shared key (the only option for my router) none of the computers could get online. I reset the router and was connected again. I set the password for the router first then went on to each computer and configured it, is that the right order?

Heres my system information:
2 computers use Vista (including my new laptop) and 2 are running XP
I have Windows firewall, Windows Defender, and McAfee Security Suite enabled on all systems.

Please help me! I'm completely lost:(
Thanks for your time.

The first THING I would try is to set your router to another channel. Read the router manul on how to do this or manufacturers web site. With all the wireless networks in you area they could be interfering. I would definitely set up WPA encryption to keep others from using you wireless. It may take some reading to do all this but well worth the time.

Good luck and let us know how your doing.

Ed
Have you actually checked the machine for viruses, malware and spyware ?
Personally I have not used Vista and from what I've heard I wouldn't rely on ITS security systems.

I use Dr Cureit and SuperAnti Spyware to check my system on XP for viruses and malware.

As for the WPA you will most likely NEED to change the settings for connecting on each machine through the router. If the router is set to WPA encryption then you also have to tell the computers that the router uses WPA. It should be somewhere in your internet connection settings on Vista. Can't tell you where as I've said I don't use Vista.

Hope this helps.Quote from: notanotherxerox on May 26, 2009, 05:56:18 PM

I tried to set a WPA pre-shared key (the only option for my router) none of the computers could get online. I reset the router and was connected again.

So, you're using no encryption on any computers.

Quote from: scotweather on May 28, 2009, 03:36:07 AM
If the router is set to WPA encryption then you also have to tell the computers that the router uses WPA.
In other words, you need to set the computers to also use WPA encryption and set the same WPA encryption password in the computers that you used for WPA encryption in your router. Yes I scanned the SYSTE with Widows Defender, McAfee Virus Scan, and Ad-Aware, all came bacj saying theres no virus/spyware/malware, but I haven't been able to update the programs since last week because I can't stay connected long enough to download the updates. I scanned when they were up to date as well with no reported problems.

I did set the WPA on each computer after setting it on the router and was not able to get online on any of them when I tried secure the network. I'm going to try it again tonight and see if maybe I missed something last time.

I changed the channel on my router last night and nothing changed. I tried 3 different channels and all those networks were still listed.

I wish I could just exchange the thing but I found out the problem started 2 days after my 21 day return/exchange window:(

Thank you all for your ideas and time! Hopefully I'll find a solution soon...Good Luck!

Solve : 1 computer wil connect to the internet with Wifi but the other won't!?

Answer»

What i am having trouble with now is connecting another laptop to my wifi... My comptuer that does connect is a Vista and the other is a XP. Now I just downloaded the driver for the Wifi Card, and the computer connects to the network but wont connect to the internet -_-. Now let me explain a little better... My Vista IS connected to Wifi and has internet... My XP IS connected to wifi but has no internet.... makes no sense to me.Have you setup the internet connection options on the Laptop ?
If you are using the laptop through a network you will need to specify that is how you are connecting.
Try using the internet setup wizard... you can get to it through MS Internet EXPLORER (tools Options - Connections)The two most likely areas causing problems on the XP machine are proxy server settings and gateway IP ADDRESS. SEE if Kate's SUGGESTIONS help out first and let US know how you get on.

Solve : belkin internet icon?

Answer»

Hi all,

i have a belkin n1 router, all appears to be working fine but the internet icon blinks blue intermittently,as i say it blinks BLUE and not AMBER,what could be the cause?
By the way it is connected to cable modem isp virgin,HOPE someone can help thanks. I'm guessing that you've already checked, but in case you haven't, you should FIND the router's manual(s) on your product CD. The user manual is also available >here<. From the manual:

Quote

This unique icon shows you when the Router is connected to the
Internet. When the light is off, the Router is NOT connected to the
Internet. When the light is blinking amber, the Router is attempting
to connect to the Internet. When the light is solid blue, the Router
is connected to the Internet. When using the “Disconnect after x
MINUTES” feature, this icon becomes extremely useful in monitoring
the status of your Router’s CONNECTION.

I would take that to mean that your connection is dropping from time to time and the router is reconnecting. This might not be correct however, and I suspect that only Belkin can really answer your question since flashing blue is not specifically mentioned in the manual. Are you using the router's latest firmware? The router's product page is >here< and that page also contains link to contact Belkin.

Did you TALK to your ISP?I have not. I guess that should be my next move?

It's AT&T... wish me luck.I got AT&T at home, but charter eat my school apartment.

First though, what speed package did you subscribe to and how much do you pay per month for that service?

At home, my dad PAYS $15 a month for the 768kbps service, but if you're paying for a higher speed then you should get it.

How long has it been LIKE that? Ask AT&T TECH's for some help, they've fixed the problems I have had in timely manner when I called then up last time I had issues.Good luck

Solve : SQL Server Connection Via ODBC to Hosting!!!!?

Answer»

Hi everyone, I need to create a Connection in my ODBC, I PUT all the parameters (user, pass, Host) but I couldn't ACCESS, Windows Shows me that the server doesn't exist. But I could make ping to the address (I've trying with the url name and the IP address).

Please Help me I don't know what to do

Regards Can you TELL us if the machine running SQL and your machine are in the same network? Is the server running a firewall? Is your machine running a firewall?

I think we can probably glean that this is an extrernal SQL host. Can I ask - which flavour of SQL? MySQL? MS SQL? Postgresql? And have you double-checked that you're using the CORRECT port?

Solve : intrusion attempt??

Answer» After looking in vista event viewer security log i found several of these:

The Windows Filtering Platform has BLOCKED a connection.

Application Information:
Process ID:1048
Application NAME:\device\harddiskvolume2\windows\system32\svchost.exe

Network Information:
Direction:Inbound
Source Address:239.255.255.250
Source Port:1900
Destination Address:xxxx
Destination Port:xxxx
Protocol:17

Filter Information:
Filter Run-Time ID:0
Layer Name:Receive/Accept
Layer Run-Time ID:44

i was wondering if this is an intrusion attempt, an attak or why are they attempting a connection to my computer? and is it legal? That's a reserved IP address... Hmm... What port was it, out of interest? (It's perfectly safe to reveal that.)2308
Hmm... possibly an intrusion attempt. I can't see any other reason for it really. Possibly it's looking for BackOrifice or some similar trojan. Do you not have an external ROUTER/firewall?ye, both. but i have a few open ports tat i use to play online games. If port 2308 is amongst the ports being forwarded to your PC then I think you have your answer. Note that this may be something one of you online games is TRYING to do LEGITIMATELY - it may be that you've opened the port on your router and not done so on your PC. Check if any of the games requires UDP port 2308.

Solve : Ipconfig/all command doesn't show me all ip addresses?

Answer»

I have a Mac, an XP3 PC, a Vista laptop, a PS3 and an Onkyo Network receiver all on a local network. The vista laptop is connected via WIFI and they all work okay. I've just managed to get Vista to "see" the Mac and the PC but I can't find the ip address of the PS3 using the ipconfig command. How can I identify it? It won't "see" the Vista machine or the Mac at all but it does find the XP3 PC and will sometimes play media from it...
"ipconfig/all" reveals a list of "Tunnel adapters" as well as the PC and the Gateway but the tunnel adapters say media is disconnected and don't show ip addresses.
Any IDEAS?Go here...

http://www.angryziber.com/w/Download

Download the Windows version. It's pretty easy to use and will show all IP's on the network.

Alan <>< Thanks ALE, I've run it from the Vista machine but it still only comes up with one "live address" even though all the machines are active...The majority of network discovery software will be defeated by a good firewall. The router that assigns the IP addresses probably has a web interface that can tell you about any IP addresses created through DHCP.So you're suggesting I look on the router to find a list of active IP addresses, seems logical. Thanks Rob. The PS3 still won't see any other machine other than the PC... I suppose it's a PS3 thing? I was hoping to do MANUAL file transfers from the Mac and the Vista machine if they would detect the PS3...I'm afraid I don't know much about PS3 networking. Yes, look on the router. Also, check the PS3 is on the same subnet, using the same network mask. If it relies on "Windows Networking" ensure it's in the same workgroup - check for typos.

Solve : can't get internet on dell laptop?

Answer»

Trying to fix my niece's laptop.

I can't get interent via landline or wireless.
i connected the cable direct to the laptop... no internet.
I installed my wifi card, which I know works. it is showing "not connected". i tried to click repair and got this message:
windows could not finish repairing the problem because the following action cannot be completed: connecting to the wireless network.

I went to: Start Menu -> right-click on My Computer -> left-click on Properties -> Hardware -> Device Manager.
and all of these have exclamation points:
ethernet controller
multmedia audio controller
pci modem
video controller (vga compatible)by the way, it is a dell laptop inspiron 5150 with XP Home EditionWhen you first bought the computer it should have came with a driver CD. It will say something like: "Drivers and Utilities" on it. That CD will have your ethernet driver on it. Do you have it?

If you don't have the CD then go here:
http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/index.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=gen
and enter your service tag number. You can download the driver from a different computer then burn it to a CD or flash drive and then load it on your niece's laptop.

Good luck!ok, i have that disc. i installed some drivers from there. the ethernet controller is working now and i can connect to the internet. i still can't connect via wireless and still have the exclamation points on the other 3 items.
there is a driver on the disc called "PROSet/Wireless Utility version 9.0.2.11

but it won't install that. This is the error message I get:
This installer does not support installation on this computer.

not sure what else to do heretry to dowload it.
The other drivers will be there on the dell site. which operating system ur using..downloaded other drivers from the dell site. wireless is still not working. i had also downloaded the drivers for the netgear wifi card that i was using. the netgear SOFTWARE scans for a connection and doesn't find anything. besides my router, there are always a few CONNECTIONS around here that i find on my own laptop too. so, i have ruled out my own router as the problem.

Solve : IP Address vs. DNS and Finding A Site's IP Address?

Answer»

69.147.114.210 = yahoo?
64.233.160.104 = GOOGLE?

I had a customer lose internet service with Comcast. When I used to have Comcast, they used to lose the DNS server on a more frequent basis than I think ought to happen with an ISP.

I used to test with one of the above IP addresses, but they won't WORK from my location. Would a firewall block an IP address? Why would it "care"?

Is there an easy way to get a site's IP, just for future reference?ping google.com

from a command promptYeah, I knew that.

I'll check to see if they've changed.

Thanks for the suggestion.

=====

I also ought have remembered that IP addresses are not WRITTEN in stone -- not by far! The reason the above addresses weren't working is because they're no longer valid! (To think that Yahoo and Google didn't "clear" this with me!) Were you asking something different? Maybe I didn't understand. No, we're fine!

As I EDITED above, the addresses had simply changed!

Going to the sites via IP address works just fine when the addresses are correct!

Thanks, again, for the suggestion. I wish they were all that easy! The OpenDNS service might help customers such as these. They're not obliged to use their own ISP's DNS servers. OpenDNS provides other benefits too, such as a MEASURE of rouge site protection.

Solve : Connection Interruption Error Page?

Answer»

The past few weeks I get a lot of the same type of errors when opening Firefox or IE .... a page appears and says "Connection Interrupted" and below it says "your INTERNET connection does not seem to be working" .... but it IS working! I refresh the page, and sometimes it will go ahead and load correctly, but half the time it won't. Doesn't matter what site I'm headed toward, half the time I get this error page!

Lately I'm also getting a lot of email errors that refer to sockets and one is like this:

"Socket Error: XXXXX, PORT: XXX, [numbers removed] Protocol: POP.A connection attempt failed because the connected party did not properly respond after a period of time, or established connection failed because connected host has failed to respond."

We had a wireless router setup and just went to a wired setup, but I don't know why that would make a difference? We have four computers in the house.

It's like an alien is living inside my COMPUTER and sometimes takes control! I run all the virus protection programs I know of, but no red flags.

ANY help would be greatly appreciated!

MarciDo you have more that one computer on your home network? Does this happen with all of them? Sounds like an intermittent fault which could be caused by almost anything - poor network cables, faulty network cards, faulty router, faulty telephone wiring, etc, etc.We replaced our wireless router to a wired router.

I restored a previous checkpoint on my computer. This computer is the only one that has this problem.

I haven't seen the error in a couple days now. HOPEFULLY it's gone for good!

Appreciate your input!Okay, good. Come back if you need help again!Believe it or not, yesterday after I posted that, I went to some other sites and BAM, got the error again! Right now, I don't know what else to do.

USUALLY, when I refresh the page, it loads, so I guess until I come up with another bright idea, I'll just tolerate it for now. OY VAY!

Try replacing the network cable to the computer that's displaying these symptoms. It sounds like a hardware-level fault to me.

Solve : Issue with Wireless Linksys WRT54GS Router and Sprint 645 Modem?

Answer»

Hello,

I have the above hooked up to my Windows Vista computer the Modem is fine all by itself (the internet works). The problem is with the Router. I hooked everything up and turned it all on then inserted the cd and went through set up for the router. UNFORTUNATELY, I hadn't noticed the sticker that said (Run cd first before connecting cables) me and my idiocy. Well now it won't connect to the internet while the router is in the connection. It goes My computer --> Linksys Router --> Sprint 645 series Modem --> internet. The wifi works fine -_- i can get CONNECTED to the network while its on... its just its not connected to the internet which is the problem. I have used the Command Prompt to see my IP Address while just modem is connected and its 192.168.1.2... but while the Linksys is connected its 192.168.1.100 and I have called My ISP and they said it should work fine together because they are both DHCP and its enabled. So I have to ask... what is wrong?? I have used the Reset button on the router several times -_-. Please helpHave you uninstalled the router software / rebooted disconnected from the router / then followed the instructions to do it right this time?

Alan <>< all right i figure out that the CD is to setup/config the router... problem is when i run the setup it gets to the last step of turning on the router and it says It can't detect it. It gives error code 322 if any of u ACTUALLY know what error that is. It gives 3 steps to fix it... 1. Make sure the power cord is plugged into the router. (yes) 2. Make sure u aren't hooking up your old router or gateway. (i DIDNT have one b4 so not an issue). and 3. hit Retry to retry setting up your router. ... I have no idea what's wrong... only 2 THINGS i can think of. The first one is that it thinks that the current router is an old one since i plugged it in early... I can't fix that -_- i have tried hitting reset on the back of it and that doesn't work. (i held it for 30+ seconds b4 so i know it reset). and the other is right b4 reset it says "Checking Network Adapter" then "Checking Network Status" both get checks beside them... but i think that because i am using a laptop to do it it might mess that part up.. I don't know why though. -_- i dont have access to a "working" desktop so i have no clue what to do. In the picture while setting it up it shows a desktop so i dont know... when the router is on I can connect to its network by WiFi... not sure if that helps but i can.If u haven't noticed I like to be detailed, and I can't uninstall the software .. cuz like i said it was to config the router.. so no software on my comp.. XD just letting u know i tried what the guy above said (sorry I forgets things really fast like names unless i use them alot)SOLUTION!

For any who may need this in the future i fixed it. I just had to give my Router and Modem 2 different local and internet based IP address's. for example my Router's would be 192.168.1.5 for local, and it would end as 1.6 for internet, and the modem's would be (my default) 192.168.1.1 for local and 1.2 for internet. This is all i had to do XD. and now it works.
