Solve : password command in batch file? |
Answer» I have DEVELOPED an ACCESS database an protected with a password. If the password is set, the batch file is not executed.did access ask for password only or username/password? what's the CMD line you are using to start the database? is it database password or WORKGROUP password you set on the database?I personally wouldn't use a batch file to open something with that requires a password. If some one happened to get a copy of the batch they could have all the access they needed to your database. |

But I don't do it manually though, I have tuneup utilities delete the windows update backup files for me I was just wondering if it is safe to remove (delete) old Windows Update backup folders from my computer ? CCleaner > Advanced > Hotfix Uninstallers. Don't remove them unless you know the updates are working OK. Once removed there is no getting them back.Quote no such thing as miracle tool50 bucks for removing old updates? Please...Quote from: Broni on March 15, 2009, 08:53:32 PM 50 bucks for removing old updates? Please... Dude, don't be so irritated I meant there's many ways of doing THINGS, my way suits me fine but it's not the only way. Yes, it's a paid software but I got it through trialpay so it was virtually free for me anyway. But of course whatever gets the job done QUICK and free of issues and free of cost then that's good I just posted a suggestion and it works but don't get caught up just thinking it's the only way things work. Thanks everyone. Will try the CCleaner option...it has always been safe & trustworthy as far as I'm concerned, even they're registry cleaner has never cause me grief. I won't go into some of the cold sweats I've gotten trying some of the other ones. |

Solve : Entire computer slowed down after video card changed? |
Answer» Recently while gaming my graphics card(880GT) fan gave out. I unplugged the card and looked it over, and put it back in. After doing so my entire computer had slowed down. I thought maybe something had happened to the card so i traded it in for a 9800GT and after uninstalling my old drivers and installing my NEW ONES the problem persisted. I have over 1GB of RAM left. During gaming i cant tell any difference in the speed between the highest and the lowest graphics quality. |

Solve : CD ROM promblem? |
Answer» I recently ran scanreg /restore and scanreg /fix (last night) and today my Floppy drive A:\ and D:\ won't work. I looked them up in help and it said they were working properly. However I beg to differ because when I put a CD in D:\ it says: D:\ is not accesable. The device is not ready. so I wiped the cd on my shirt then blew into the computer for good measure and bingo, it worked! LOL... As for your other question, it looks like You have some registry problem, but to fix those, you'd need 98 CD. Are you having any particular problems with your computer?Yes, i had some problem with explore shuting down but I didn't write down what it said. Something about performing an illigel action. So your saying I would need a 98se cd to move windows to a new directory? In case of Win 98, you can install it over existing installation. It should fix system files problem, and your data is safe.remember I said I didn't have a 98se installation cd?I do, but you don't have much of an option here. You may use borrowed CD, if you can find one.I'm beginning to think your right! Just like in that old movie THE DEER HUNTER. I've been yelling maow and slapping myself around for an hour now! I'm up to three bullets in the gun! LOL Someth'ins gonna happen!!!!!!! LOLI think this will help you! c:\Widows (where ever) Repair folder Find: Autoexec.nt Copy it Go to: c:\windows\System32 Paste it here Right click over the folder and chose Propeties, and make a tick at " Read Only " else Start> run Write this command: Regedit Press: enter, find this: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE> SYSTEM> CurrentControlSet> Services> Cdrom> Change the value from 0 in 1 Make an update of your driver. P.S. Also check your BIOS configuration (this is second step). CheersDeer Hunter, huh?...LOL....excellent movie!Hey doc, Are you talking about my P.S. at the bottom Of my third post? |

Solve : no sound xp? |
Answer» yeah so did i! my os is also xp sp2 Bluepen, OK i went back to my computer/TV and tried to see what if anything i could get at that resembled the instructions i presented earlier. What i found is that from the clicking on my volume icon on the lower RIGHT task bar it brought up the name of my sound card (SB Audigy). I could work my way through many open windows from there that allowed all kinds of changes. Of course i didn't change anything as unlike you my setup is working fine. However i would ask the following --do you have the volume icon in the task bar? If not i would follow the instructions contained in my earlier post to create it. Then if you do or when you do see what you can display and if you get the same results as i do then examine the great number of options to see if something jumps out at you that needs to be changed. It OCCURS to me that more than just the O/S may be involved here and WHATEVER you have as your sound card may display something that reflects the manner in which that particular card presents the options (as opposed to being universal to all sound cards). Therefore the terminology of the words in regards to what the TV displays may differ. I hope this makes sense. keep us informed truenorthYES!!! I Finally got it to work. |

Solve : OS won't install.? |
Answer» My computer in my sound studio suddenly started acting up. It would start to load Windows then I hear a small click, the monitor tells me it has lost contact and the computer will restart over and over. I decided to install another HD and install the OS but it kept freezing at "installing devices". I even tried another HD with the same results. I even tried two different OS's with the same result. I can't boot to safe mode but I've had the computer running in setup for almost four hours so I guess that pretty WELL eliminates some hardware problems. Here is some information that I could gather. It's AMD Athlon with 786 Mb RAM and the CPU temp. is 37 deg. C and the system temp. is 27 deg.C Is there anything else I could check?what OS are you trying to install? for the cd, take a kleenex and wet it slightly and slowly wipe the cd in circular manner. Have had problems where everything is on cd but cd has dirt so laser can't go thru dirt and hence computer assume cd doesn't have file and therefore error. not circular- straight outwards from the middle. That way if it scratches(and chances are anything will make minute scratches) they will be perpendicular to the data tracks- according the "upgrading and repairing PCs 15th Edition", anyway: Quote To remedy this type of problem, you can clean the bottom surface of the CD with a soft cloth, but be careful not to scratch the surface in the process. The best technique is to wipe the disc in a radial fashion, using strokes that start from the center of the disc and emanate toward the outer edge. This way, any scratches will be perpendicular to the tracks rather than parallel to them, minimizing the interference they might cause. You can use any type of solution on the cloth to clean the disc, so long as it will not damage plastic. Most window cleaners are excellent at removing FINGERPRINTS and other dirt from the disc and don't damage the plastic surface.Quote from: m_260 on March 16, 2009, 08:42:20 PM slowly wipe the cd in circular manner Never do this. m_260, what were you thinking of when you posted that? I clean my disks and checked all the connections and rebooted. Windows came up and asked for the OS installation disk to be inserted. I froze again at the same place with 35 minutes REMAINING. I did this twice. About an hour later, I disconnected the DVD drive, rebooted with the original HD and it just kept recycling. I reconnected the DVD drive, hooked up the second drive that I was trying to load the OS on and it asked for the OS installation disk. I inserted the disk and it finished the installation. So, it must have been a loose connection on the DVD drive plus a defective HDSo are you in the clear?I spoke too soon. It takes forever to boot and forever to open a program. It's quite FAST once I have the program opened. This afternoon, every time I try to open a particular program (CoolEdit) it takes forever then reboots and I get a message that the system has recovered from a serious error. I checked the events logs and it shows a disk warning followed by an atapi error. Any ideas?Quote from: Original post hear a small click Quote from: SuperDave on March 18, 2009, 12:34:38 PM it shows a disk warning followed by an atapi error. Any ideas? Hard drive on the way out. That's possible. It was one I had been using for a back-up. I'm going to try another smaller one. |

Solve : I lost my IE desktop icon? |
Answer» I like to make ICONS so i D/L'd an icon program that manages ico lib's, i forget the name...when I uninstalled it it took the IE icon from the desktop, (you know, the one you can r click and it brings up internet properties) anyways..I have searched and searched and can't find it, anyone know where i can make a copy/ or how to do it? [emailprotected]ou8i8uo......you are trying to replace the internet EXPLORER icon on your desktop........click start /all programs/ find the internet explore icon and right click on it and select .......send to.....desktop (create SHORTCUT) and it should be back. let us know dl65 I don't want to make a regular shortcut, it's that special one I want. The one you right clik and get internet properties with. It's not a regular shortcut, I don't think its a shortcut at all. I've looked in Windows, system, system32 even the recycle bin. Searched C even. any Ideas?ou8i8uo.....well, if I right click on the internet explorer icon on my desktop and then select properties they are there ......perhaps you have some other issue going on . when you right click on any of the other icons on your desktop do you have the properties at the bottom of your list ? let us know. dl65 Open Internet Explorer, and go to Tools, Internet Options, Advanced, and scroll down to Navigation. Put a check-mark in "Show IE icon on the desktop." click Apply and OK. Right-click on the icon, now on your desktop, and open the Properties. Or did you just hide your desktop icons?Mac......Unless I read his post wrong his problem isn't getting the IE icon back on his desktop ...he is saying that when he gets it back there he doesnt have properties showing up when he right clicks on that icon . dl65 I guess I'm not making myself clear. No, I did not hide or clear my desktop icons. Yes, If I create a shortcut for IE, properties does come up in the context menu but just the ones for a regular shortcut. Not Internet properties. What I'm looking for is a special icon. I think it's a system icon. It's not one you can just make. Right click on your desktop, click properties from the drop down list, go to the Desktop tab and click the button underneath the wallpaper list. From there you can set the 'system' icons.Quote I guess I'm not making myself clear. Well either it is what I said in the previous post or, if you are using XP you can either right-click the desktop, or go to display in the control panel, and click on the Desktop tab, then the Customise Desktop button and put a check-mark in to show the Internet Explorer icon on the desktop. When you have clicked Apply and OK, etc, if you now right-click the desktop icon you should get the entire Internet Explorer control panel. http://www.icon-maker.com/hiya - I just came across this site and had the same problem - I found the "fix" in the following microsoft link - it will show you how to fix your IE desktop icon so that you can "right click" and get into Internet Explorer "Internet Properties" window that has the 7 TABS - where you can delete your browsing history etc. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/945402#DoItYourSelf Quote from: ou8i8uo on September 18, 2004, 09:04:23 AM I guess I'm not making myself clear. They haven't been back in 4 1/2 years.... |

Solve : trying to fix Master Boot Record in XP? |
Answer» I had UBUNTU and XP dual booted on the same hard drive. I went into Disk Management in Windows and deleted the Ubuntu partition. But when I reboot the computer it says "Error 22". it only says, "bad command or file name". You used Bootrec in Vista, it appears not to be available in XP.. See KB314058 Good luck. do you have the windows cd? try the repair option in it. Ubuntu or linux in general i think used grub loader.BOOT to the XP CD and enter the recovery console. Run the fixboot and fixmbr commands. That seems to be the problem I'm having... When I insert the installation disk, there is NO "repair" option. The only options I have are: "Restore Windows XP" and "Boot to command prompt using CD-ROM" If I select "restore WIN XP" it wants to completely reinstall. The other option brings me to an A:\ prompt.....Try this Download Windows Recovery Console: http://www.thecomputerparamedic.com/files/rc.iso Download, and install free Imgburn: http://www.imgburn.com/index.php?act=download Using Imgburn, burn rc.iso to a CD. Boot to the CD...let it finish loading. When the "Welcome to Setup" screen appears, press R to start the Recovery Console. Now get to the root directory of C by typing: cd\ you should now just see a standard C prompt Now execute the fixboot and fixmbr commandsalright I got the ISO burned, give me a little while and I'll post back thanksEL EXCELLENTE` !!! Just don't ask if that is a real word....lol Anyway, it worked..............thanks much Apparently my OEM installation disk does not include the repair console. If it does I have no clue how to access it. Regards Everybody Quote from: hot dog on March 19, 2009, 01:59:32 AM
You have not got a full retail Windows install disk. These are the ones that have the Recovery Console and repair options BUILT in. What you have got is a manufacturer's recovery disk, which contains a prepared "image" of a fresh install for that model PC, and the software necessary to write that onto your hard drive. |

Solve : Application Error issue.......? |
Answer» HELLO everyone. I recently disabled a couple non-essential items for start-up through msconfig. When I did that and restarted, my computer now asks for a user name and password. When I click ok, it boots up fine, but certain programs (such as Ad Aware) don't work and come up with this error: The APPLICATION failed to initialize properly (0xc0000142). Click on OK to terminate the application. I'm also having trouble opening up programs LIKE disk defragmenter and add/remove programs. I'm sorta a NOVICE at this, so this might be an obvious solution. If anyone can provide me with any HELP I would greatly appreciate it! Re- enable, whatever you disabled. |

Solve : press F-1 to continue? |
Answer» I have fixed a friends Dell Optiplex 745 computer. All is working well except it will not boot directly to windows, I get the "press f-1 to continue then it boots up. When I go to the bios, it looks different than any bios screen I have seen. I don't know how to fix things there, there are not a lot of options..In the BIOS you could select "RESTORE defaults" and that may get normal operation back. Does the "F-1" warning contain any INFORMATION as to what is prompting it such as a fan failure, etc.? truenorthSounds like the F1 to continue is just telling you the system checked out OK and is ready to boot. Some MOTHERBOARDS have this setting in the BIOS, and it could be the default setting. I would SEE if you can look around the different BIOS menus and see if you can find something that sounds like this option. You will not change anything the BIOS unless you select the "save and exit" command when done and then confirm it again. Just looking around doesn't hurt anything, and if you don't save any changes when done in there, that also won't hurt anything. |

Solve : Error message when installing games? |
Answer» Hello! My son KEEPS getting error messages when he tries to install a game. The message reads: Sounds like the vid card isn't up to the game specs... Or the video driver isn't installed. It seems that all his games were working fine but ACCORDING to him, they suddenly stopped working. He said that they would begin to load and then stop. No error message. So he uninstalled SIMS 3 and tried to REINSTALL it when he got the error I mentioned before.Amazingly enough...still not enough info on the PC in question...and/or the games...What do you need to know? |
