I am runing Win Xp Pro and when I go to Backup all my Graphic Art Work and PHOTOS I always get a Window that tells me.

The File Thumbs.db may be cerupt do you want to copy it or skip it.

I whent through every File and I have no Thums.db and I ran a Virus Scan to make sure I am not infected.

Skip the THUMBNAIL file.Ever SINCE I turned off the Thums.db iin controla Pannle one of the Web Sites I go to will not display photos.
So I turned it back on to see if that would fix it and it did not.
I use Firefox any help will be good.

I have seen a lot of ADS recently for "registry optimizing software". Specifically, ARO (Automatic Registry Optimizer).
Question: What does this program actually do?
Will it, as the ads claim, SPEED up my computer by "fixing" the registry?
What are the downsides to this program? Can it cause me any problems?
Is it worth the money? (About $40)?
Do I need this software, or is their some utility in my system (Widows XP, Office Suite, Service Pack 5, all current patches and security updates), or available for free that will do the same thing (safely)?

Ok , so i was messing around with some config files on bash and slash , and noticed i was getting a lot of lag in game , so i decided to delete the Main pb file within my call of duty 2 folder , ive done it before with no issues what so ever , i just go to Pbsetup.exe and update it..... Simple RIGHT?

As soon as i installed some updated video drivers the punkbuster servers where kicking me for PunkbusterB failing? Basically as soon as i got into game , punkbusterB would shut itself down within my services.... Now i know what your thinking , use punkbusters other program pbsvc , WELL ive done that as well , it says the following..

Something is causing PunkbusterB to stop , now having no antivirus installed on this computer and no firewall , there's nothing that could block it from starting! It is a Free Program for CONVERTING Video Files from one format to ANOTHER format and I need some HELP.

At the top of the screen you can pick from a list of Video Templeates to convert to.
But they do let you create your own but I can't find the Costumize Tab.

I just tryed to USE this program and it told me a new verson is out and I must use it.
And it would not work it wants me to get the new verson so I did.

How do i get rid of this? any PROGRAM i code in .net has this "splash" screen before INITIALIZATION... and it's wasting my precious time. lol. Plus it's UGLY... I know it is possible to remove, because the coder of a game i play, he uses VCpp.NET and there is no splash... so... yeah.

You need to disable the automatic update check.

Project Tab >> Updates button >> Uncheck "This application should check for updates".

After several weeks of toying with this program,i surrender.LABELFLASH has beaten me.The websight offers free software and templates,but I've only managed to be able to USE the few that comes with the software download.They say that you are supposed to be able to burn IMAGES,pictures etc. ONTO the disk.But i have not been successful.Has anyone else managed to burn a picture onto a disk using labelflash?Did you use different software?The websight advertises Roxio Creator 2009 which i now find out only seems to support lightscribe.The BeLight software seems to be for Mac only.All comments welcome...thanks!....WANDERS off to bang head against wall.

I'm have a laptop running on windows XP SP2. I am able to CREATE a restore point, but when I try to restore the system to that or any other system created restore points, it does not restore. It gives a message saying it cannot restore to the date/time requested and that CHOSE another restore point.

I ROLLED back the system to the factory default and tried creating a new restore point, still it refuses to do so. Any ideas please ??Have you tried to restore in safe mode?

Anyways, I dont have Norton running, but thanks for the SUGGESTION though.I have manually created two restore points (restore1 & restore2) on a laptop with win xp sp3. I would like to turn off the System Restore so that windows doesn't create more restore points. I know there is an option to allocate the amount of disk space for Sys Restore.

I've just discover a minutes ago that everytime I would open a file (any files) in my flashdrive, it would also reset to that same date and time.

I have produced some charts using Excel and copied into a Word .doc. I copied the .doc into Outlook Express to send as an email to some Yahoo Groups. The charts were in the sent emails. They were not in the emails received by the Groups. They were replaced by white space. I did the same thing some time AGO and did not have that problem.
I went to one of the groups to Post the .doc. This did not work as the .doc copied from Word did not have the charts. Help has not helped me to work out what the problem is.
I am using Word2000 on Windows98SE.Could you attach the charts as PDF files? There are several FREE programs that make PDFS by “printing” your document or image as a PDF file. [Primo PDF; doPDF; Bullzip]

The other person would not be able to edit the charts in that form, but they would be sure to receive the same image you sent them.

Outlook is obviously doing SOMETHING with the formatting but i don't use Outlook so don't quote me on that.I have DONE some more trials since the original post. Outlook Express has the charts in the .doc sent post but they have disappeared in the post received by the Yahoo Groups they were went to. However, they were in the posts in my Yahoo Mail Inbox.
I cannot use Yahoo Mail to send the posts as the charts do not copy to it.

I'm using a chat room and when someone types something and presses enter, a BLIP sound is sounded. SINCE I'm in the nearer vicinity but away from my computer, I would like some kind of software to pick up the sound, then an email get sent to a specified email address (which in turn I get an SMS alert on my MOBILE phone which I have on me always).

It has an option to run an application but I'm guessing I need other software now . Ok getting to a solution I think but now I'm really stumped.

Then I found an email that SENDS simple emails.

So the sound application can run the simple email application. But how can it press the 'send' button?

Not sure what you mean by "service pack 3 installed"? Are you running XP and have the service pack on that, or does IE 7 have a service pack to install? I use Firefox so much that I never consider what IE is doing or up to.

I would ditch the WIndows Media Player as WELL and get the VLC---VIdeo Lan player, it is great. It all depends which operating system you have, Vista is quite good for DVD's decoding but Xp is not.

They ask me to give them my whole songs . So I want to know is there any idea through which my frnd cannot copy my pc famous songs and videos. I am asking you this tips bcz I cannot say no also to my frnd otherwise they will get angry on me. So if u will say me some method . I will do it on my pc and will not allow my frnd to copy or MOVE my songs to their pen drive or in their blank cd.

Sometimes, you just have to say NO.Actually like when i am playing a song. and if somebody tells me tht he want that song. So instead of telling him no. Is there any method through which copy or move option is not highlighted. So that i can tell my frnd that there is a problem in my pc. In it i cannot copy or paste.


Or simply u tell me to lock the usb port and cd rom drive.

i am hoping someone can help me with vista and yahoo VOICE, WELL rather settings on vista, i am helping a friend and its a new computer with vista home.the computer is only 3 months old and everything was working fine, about a week ago she was told in a room that it had a lot of statci playing through the sound card, she tried reinstalling the new yahoo 2034 and even tried a restore, when playing through the sound card all she gets is a beep when she SWITCHES over to MIC she can talk but still some static. its a hp, they called hp for hep and they had them do a factory restore, all went fine but when she reinstalled yahoo 2034 and tried it the same thing happened. i had then go out and buy a new sound card which they did a sound blaster, when its installed its the same thing. hoping someone know of a different setting in vista for sound that may have gotten checked or anything else. we have hunted all through the settings in control panel which is really the same ones when you right click the speaker. anyone have any idea? also she has tried yazak thinking it was just a yahoo thing and also droped the new yahoo sound 50dll into system 32. i am at a total loss and hp says there is nothing wrong with the computer. but it sure wont play through the sound card and it did until 2 weeks ago.

My two USB ports from motherboard and three from PCI card are not working and I'm in desperate need of assistance. So far I have:
Checked in BIOS and indicates USB is ENABLED and supporting high speed.
Device Manager SAYS everything working properly, shows no problems. Checked updates just in case, all the most recent are installed.
Went into Power Management and unchecked box " allow computer to turn off devices to save power"
I then disconnected pc form wall outlet for an hour in case pc was holding settings
Powered up and ports still not working.
Is there anything else I can check or do, I'm wide open to suggestions

when you try to delete messages do you use 'Shift' 'Delete' or just 'Delete' ??

I got a little problem: vonagetalk does not start properly from Autostart. There are few other applications INTERFERING at startup. When I start vonagetalk manually after everything LOADED I got no problems at all.


So what I am looking for is a small application to delay the start of a program. So I could add this app into my startup files and LET vonagetalk be started 30 secs later.

I would remove Vonage from the startup group altogether...there are a few 1000 hits on google about all the issues this causes.
Just run it manually.

I have a pair of nVidia 8800GTs in SLI in an A8N ASUS Premium mb.

When I run a DXDIAG, it shows that the driver is 181.20

I want to update the driver to 181.22.

However when I run that update, I get two RESULTS. The DXDIAG shows the driver to still be 181.20, while the Device Manager shows the driver to be 181.22 for both cards.

When I try to ACCESS the nVidia display panel, it tells me that can't be displayed because of a version mismatch.

Can anyone help with this?

Sounds like the nVidea drivers aren't updating properly.

And then reinstalling your newer drivers afterwards

I downloaded the software but when I ran it I got an error - think it was a memory glitch. But perhaps it helped anyway.

After that I ran an uninstall of nVidia display drivers. I then ran an INSTALL of the 181.22 version.

However when I booted up again no drivers were installed. So I WENT to Device Manager and installed each video card seperately from the directory that contained the 181.22 patch. That seemed to do it. Now I have 181.22 on both Device Manager and DXDIAG and I no longer get error messages regarding different versions.

I have bought a new Nvidia GEFORCE 9400 GT 1GB graphics card and gta 4 really LAGS on it EVEN on lowest settings. I have 185.20 drivers. Is there any way how to run GTA IV without lagging? Unfortunately, that's a low end graphics card...doubtful there's anything you can do to get games to run any better.

Well, I've had Adobe Premier for a couple weeks now, and haven't, until today, tried importing more than one video file into a project. The first one goes in just fine (these are small clips, about 15 MB, MPEG), but if I try to IMPORT a SECOND video file, the program crashes. I tried the same THING in Windows Movie Maker with the exact same effect.

My computer should be able to handle this sort of thing. I have a dual core 3 GHz processor, 4 GB of RAM, and an nVidia GeForce GTX 260 (896 MB) graphics card, running Windows Vista SP1. I even increased my computer's virtual memory (from 1 G to 4 G), with no difference.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi all,

I have bought a game called Warcraft III a while ago. It worked on my former computer, which was a Windows XP Professional Home Edition.

Now, this pc was taken by my dad and now I have to work with this Windows XP professional. (Not a home edition and it's a laptop).

I tried to install the game again. It worked. Now I tried to run, but everytime it's about to load the main menu, it crashes and following error appears :



Now, is there any way to solve this? If so, how?
And what does the error means to by the way?
Would appreciate help.

Actually, I bought it, I had this error, but then downloaded the expansion. Couldn't find it apart, so downloaded the first one (I have on cd) together with the expansion, but I had the same error with the bought version.

I have a lot of programs running on my laptop.

What kind of info do you need?What RAM and hard drive space have you got?
Also, what video card dedicated memory have you?

When I want to start VIA the shortcut, I have to mount the image via Daemon Tools first, OTHERWISE It says I need the cd inserted. (can't remember if that patch solved it or not)

this is a Windows XP, so It's not an older programma to run on this laptop.

The box says Windows 98/ME/2000/XP

So it can't be this compatibility mode.

Adding to what BC said, a program that costs €10000 isn't going to be cracked into that easily.

Im sure he made it up about writing a crack.

Some cheap ones do that. UltraEdit32 for example. Copies registered with bad serials get disactivated. I daresay there are a Host of ways around it, but I paid for mine (of course).

On windows media player when i try to watch a dvd it gets an error that says "Windows Media Player cannot play this DVD because a problem occurred with digital copyright protection."
I don't know why its doing this because these movies have never been copied before or anything.

On Cyberlink Power DVD it won't even load the movies to play them.
And on NERO 7 it will play movies with no sound.

I though i would just give more info on the error.Ok so the VLC media play Carbon worked.

But i'm still wanting to fix the other problem so is there anything that can be done to corect it?You may have some codecs missing.

im looking to buy some cloning software and done a couple of trials but i have a couple of questions

acronis seems to only be able to clone the whole drive to a whole drive not partition to partition - have i missed something?

i quite liked the speed of spotmau, does faster mean more chance of errors?

can a cloned image be split open in another application to get at individual files?

any other recommendations based on speed accuracy and the ability to open the image up?

i know there are lots of threads on cloning software but they all seem to be just recommendations without the reasons why There are more clone programs than you can imagine.

Early versions of Norton Ghost work fine. Just eh user interface is a little hard to understand the first few times you use it.

But hat is the way you should work anyhow, IMO.

Other clone software MAY 'shock' the NTFS and you can get an error message when the restored system comes up. Because DriveImage XML works with XP, it avoids the conflicts.

Hi GOT a question. Importing ADDRESS book and/or files from another program on another drive, is fairly straight forward.

What I'm trying to do is import from program folder, or the storage location folder, from an older installation on a different (installed) physical hard disk that is no longer an active OS on the computer.

I can pull almost all files i need to off of that drive, and as far as the email, i can import the address book file successfully for both outlook express and OUTLook.


What i cannot seem to do successfully is to import any old mail. Does anyone know, if this cannot be done? Or if it can be done, how to do it?

Search the old hard drive for .pst files. That would contain your Outlook MESSAGES. For Outlook Express messages, search for .dbx files.

If you find a .pst, try importing into Outlook. If you find .dbx files, either try importing them into Outlook Express Alternatively (for Outlook Express), if you are going to leave that hard drive installed as a second drive, you might be able to merely change the Store location setting in Outlook Express to point to the location on the old hard drive and just leave those messages there.

No I am not asking for anyone to tell me how to make illegal copies. This is why I asked if there was any legal programs....

Usually in the keyboard, when you pressed shift+2, the @ will displace, but instead, " appeared.

I've tried to change my keyboard, YET nothing change.
I've also tried System Restore, yet won't do.

Sounds like you're using a US keyboard, but set to UK layout.

You can pick a DATE then when you still had all info, and normally it should restart then and GIVE you back all the infoIf you reformatted your computer, there is no way to get everything back.

This is the 2nd time you have suggested those seeking help to contact you.

after doing a restore a new D drive was created and a folder called old windows appears in it. the D drive is now very large and the C drive is reaching it's max capacity. if I go to COMPUTER management and shrink the D drive, will that increase the size of the C drive proportionatly?You're referring Windows Vista's drive shrink feature, right? I believe the answer in no. Once you've shrunk drive D, you'll need extend drive C. The extend option is not available on the c drive. Will formatting or deleting the D drive revert the space back to C drive. I don't need a D drive. Windows old folder is there is because in the new install you chose the option to save your old data...
If everything is running properly and you have all the data you need from the old install you should just backup what you need...re-install XP and remove all existing partitions and create one partition to regain the space.
The Windows method of managing partitions is quite messy.
The other option is to get a larger HDD...use the drive manuf. utilities to "clone" the old drive to the newer larger drive and then use the older drive for storage.
If this is an option post back for instructions.Option B is doable. I assume this means that just by deleting the D drive partition I will not acquire that space from the deleted D driveto extend the C drive using Vista computer management extend option?I cannot comment on this as i have not experimented with Vista's drive management enough to make a broad statement...
All i know is i wasn't impressed with it and went back to using my old standby partitioning tools to get the job done.
That being said it may work perfectly fine for you.
If you do not need anything off of D: then delete the partition.

Then re-boot and see if Vista will merge the free space for you.
I'm old school. I like to do all my partitioning/formatting outside of the OS itself which is why i suggested the alternatives.

There's ALSO a FREE tool called Paragon Partition Manager Express Here that may suit your needs...I read the reviews and they stated what I want to do. Will give it a try. This is a great web site and so are the people who help us rank amateurs. Thsnks for the assist all.

Can anyone tell me if there is any software out that enables you to use SAVED pictures, screen savers, ULTIMATE would be video's, as a background when on your webcam? The person viewing you would SEE you and the backgound of your choice, not just preset backgrounds LIKE Live!creative cam does. Would LOVE to find free software for this.

The other day I got a blue screen (first time in years) while I was working on a Word document. I lost 2 hours of WORK because I had "Quick Save" instead of "Backup" checked. Then I thought I had lost all my documents, whether they were open or not, because they all reverted to TEXT format. I have many tables and they all became VERTICAL strings of WORDS and numbers. The other clue was that the fonts all became Times New Roman (a font that I rarely use).

After messing around a bit (and changing "Quick Save" to "Backup") some of the documents seemed to be OK. Then some of them were screwed up, again. At first I was really puzzled, and then figured out what was happening. When I go to File/Open, the document is screwed up. The same thing happens when I open a file from Windows Explorer by double-clicking. However, if I open it from the drop-down file list, it's fine.

Now I'm in the following situation: when I first open a file, it's messed up, so I close it. Then the file appears in the drop-down file list, and when I click on the same file in the list, it's OK. I am really confused and need help.

I've been using this copy of Word 97 for 10 years without a problem.

My COMPUTER is a Pentium 4, running XP (SP-3), with 512MB RAM, and plenty of HD space. I should mention that I've had problems with IE, but don't know if there's a connection. I hope someone can suggest something I can do about this....What happens if they are opened in WordPad ? ?The files open perfectly in WordPad.

After my first post about my Maxtor external drive not responding, I took their advice and returned it for another. I've tried to install it three times and every time I got the same result. The software seems to be installing as I watch the green bars advance to the end. Then I get this.....Error 1920. Service Maxtor Sync Service (Maxtor Sync Services) Failed To Start. Verify that you have Sufficient Privileges To Start System Services
The drive is a Maxtor One Touch 4 Mini (250 GB) and my desktop is an HP running Windows XP Home with all service packs and updates installed. I've CHECKED my user accounts and the only one listed is the owner and is marked administrator. I've been to the Maxtor website and their tech support is a joke! I'm wondering if there are remnants of the first installation screwing things up but have not found any. Perhaps I'm not looking in the right places.
I Googled "Error 1920" and got a bunch of ads for registry clean up products. I ran my own Registry Mechanic and it didn't help. Any ideas???I make sure this good idea! From Control Panel, open Administrative Tools. Open Services. Scroll down to Removable Storage.

If it is listed in "startup type" column as "disabled", select it and in the Action menu open Properties. On the first tab, in the middle is "startup type". Change it to "automatic" and click "apply". Reboot.

I hope someone can help me out here because I am tearing my hair out over this. The problem I am having is with Adobe Photoshop and the photo’s I am PRINTING out. The problem I am having is that the photo, when printed out, looks nothing like it did when VIEWED on my monitor... so all the colour changes and that I am doing in Photoshop seem a total waste of time. Does anyone here know how I can get a photo printed out, that at the very least resembles the photo I see on my monitor? Thanks!!

I have tried telling the printer to LET Adobe decide the colours for printing, but that never did any good.
