I have the game Stronghold, and I was experiencing problems with it, so I uninstalled it so I COULD install it again. But when I uninstalled it, it said in the add/remove programs that it was still there. The files that were installed before were gone though. I tried to GO through the disk and sut it up that way but it still says "Do you want to uninstall the program?" If i choose yes, it wont do anything. Do you get an error message, or does it just not open?
Try typing msinfo32 into the run dialog box - does this open? This is a more advanced version of right click on my computer -> properties, it tells you quite a lot about your machineQuote

How did you use Sum() with IF?

Obviously, the other method would be to use A1+A2+A3... etc which would be stupid.

I had to find the total charge and if it totaled 0 then cell had to be blank. To tell the truth i can see her point, but my arguement is that, i havn't been taught not to use it, anyway, i wrote

=IF(SUM(C7*$D$2)=0, "",(SUM(C7*$D$2)))

It obviously works and i can see that =IF(C7*$D$2=0, "",C7*$D$2) would of worked the same. I just wish that i'd of known about the 'efficient use of formula' rule, i just wrote it as i 'think' it.

While on the subject, does anyone know how to get the 'x-bar' symbol representing the mean. I've been looking through the symbols for ages, googles' not much help.

My OS is WinXP. I have MS Works Wordpad which I use to type letters. This is good enough for me except when I want to print forms which are in Word. I recently downloaded the free 60 day MS Office trial so my niece could do a PowerPoint project.

Thought I could now download some Word forms. However, my computer still uses Wordpad to open the Word documents which gives gibberish. How to remove a particular screen saver in Windows XP?They should be LOCATED in your Windows folder.

Look for files with .scr extensions.dratul.....Click start / control panel/ Display ....when display properties box appears.....click on the screen saver tab.....then look at the screensaver selection box below and select whatever you want . when you have made your change ..click apply and then ok .....It's just that simple.

Click the Start button, and then click Search.

2.
In the Search COMPANION window, click All file types.

3.
In the file name box, type *.scr

4.
In the Look in box, choose Local Hard Drives (C:) or the drive where you have system files stored on your computer.

5.
Click Search.

6.
You will see a list of screensavers in the results. Pick a screensaver you want. You can preview it by double-clicking it.

Now then when you find it ........highlite it and then delete it .

I don't play the games on facebook, so I'm not sure what you're talking about. My guess is you mean Adobe FLASH Player. Can you confirm that for us? Yes, Facebook uses cityville and farmville, but starting this week I have been unable to access them anymore because the update for Adobe Reader does not load.

Hey guys right now I have been noticing a problem with my Inspiron 2600 laptop. When I am in a program like word pad or note pade and I beging typing a message my cursor randomly bounces back and inserts itself right in the middle of where I already typed. BUMP^^^^On laptops sometimes this can OCCUR when the touchpad driver has become corrupt. Try re-installing them.Does your computer have the acu-pointer, the eraser head looking thing in between your keys or a nice flat TOUCH pad??

It could be a BAD keypad (keyboard) ... Intermittent connection that acts up when typing keys and the pointer rehomes at the center of the screen by your system when it reestablishes connection with the pointing device. :-/

Try leaving your pointer pointed in a corner on empty desktop and start typing like you are typing a report. Does the pointer still go back to center position??? If so, you have an intermittent connection probably...Maybe its just a loose cable inside, otherwise a new keypad could be needed...

Has this laptop taken any ABUSE, knocks, falls, anything spilled on its keys??? :-?

*** Also... Your laptop could use more Ram, 128MB is bare minimum for XP Home, when it is probably sharing memory with the video GPU. This memory size would not cause the issue though...

I am using AVG anti-virus version 8.5.449, and a genuine version of windows xp.

My drive C has 6GB STORAGE CAPACITY, but every now and then large temp files (.TMP) are created by AVG that reduce my drive C to only a couple of hundred MB, and so I have to keep deleting them.

There's no way to stop AVG from creating those files. But maybe you should consider upgrading your HARD drive. A 6GB hard drive is extremely small for this time and day.Sorry, what I meant was I have 6GB 'available' capacity.

AVG isn't creating those dump files.

Windows Error reporting is when AVG crashes.

Only thing I can think to try would be to completely uninstall AVG (use their remover tool)

and reinstall it from scratch. (or maybe take the oppurtunity to try another AV program).

A frame like you will get around a picture displayed on word. It has nodules that ALLOW you to stretch and pull the picture from the sides or CORNERS. How do I get rid of this frame, and what is it called? It will not allow me to do anything to the document.

Hey... I used to run [emailprotected] . But after having a stack of computers RUNNING 24/7/365 and only completing about 1000 work units. I gave up on it.

All the mainframes running SETI out there can crunch the units out so MUCH faster.

I had a pile of 8 decommissioned systems mostly Pentium 166 and 200Mhz MMX HP Vectra Systems with 128 to 144MB of Ram running Windows 2000 Pro SP4, crunching numbers .... I think they worked better at heating my home than crunching numbers.

What stinks is that SETI does not or did not support multiple processor crunching, so when I took an old Compaq Proliant Server with a Dual P-II 333Mhz Processors and 512MB Ram and saw that it only would run on one CPU and the other would idle, I pulled the PLUG on my donation to science and saved myself about $40 a month...

Been tempted to install it again on my newer system a P4 HT 3.0Ghz with 2GB Ram and XP Pro to see how fast it could crunch a unit. The Pentium 1 systems would crunch about 1 per 30 hrs for the systems with 256k Cache and the single Pentium Pro 200 with 512k Pipeline burst cache screamed out a unit every 18 hrs.

I still believe we are not alone .... But think that our technology is so far un-advanced compared to theirs. We are still in the days of a telegraph compared to their technology. Someday we might get a hint of whats out there as solid proof. Hi, I recently disabled my Norton Antivirus(NAV) and installed Kaspersky Anti virus Personal. It did a marvellous job of discovering all the viruses that NAV hadn't but now when my son wants to listen to his MUSIC on Windows Media player(WMP) the WMP window appears but the visualisation window and Media play list fail to load . We have uninstalled and installed WMP several times but the problem persists. I recently cleaned up my Dell Inspiron 6000 running XP. It was bogged down with a bunch of malware/trojans--probably due to my inability to update software when told to do so. Anyways, everything is now up to date with the help of secunia BUT my yahoo messenger is not working properly. Both Malwarebytes and SuperAntiSpyware COME up clean. I can open yahoo messenger and log on, but I cannot view any text that I send or am sent via IM or any old messages in the archive. I have made sure my java, flash, shockwave, IE are all up to date. My IE settings are appropriate (java/activeX/scripting are enabled). I've uninstalled and REINSTALLED yahoo messenger plenty of times. I think the problem I'm having is that when I try to open the dvd on my PC, the files are listed as those "TS Video" files, which Windows Movie Maker won't LET me open (for example). Can those TS Video files be converted to something else USING a program like Quick Media Converter?OK. Those are VOB files. Some editors with edit them directly. Or you can convert them to another format. But conversion can take time and you can lose quality.

I was wondering if anyone could help me at all. Windows Media player keeps on STARTING without any prompting. This can happen at any time, whether or not I've used Media player this session, and regardless whether I am currently on the internet or not. I have scanned for viruses and adware and nothing shows. Is there anyway I can find out what program is starting it up, or even better, stop it completely?

Did you download the latest version of Windows Media Player? (10)It starts completely randomly, and I don't think its ever happened immediately at Windows startup. I have eTrust EZ Antivirus as the one on my system, and have also performed online scanes with Trend Micro and RAV. I have also scanned with Lavasoft Ad-Aware. I've downloaded Media Player 10 (as well as the last few windows updates) and it STILL happens. Sometimes it can go hours without happening and sometimes it will start up, I'll close it, and it will start again. It doesn't load any particular file when it starts either. Makes me think another program is causing it to load using the pathname, but I don't know how to check if this is happening.

Just want to ask about "System Requirements" of the software. My question is, why they always increases the system requirements everytime they release a NEW version?

Take care and God bless. I have been wondering the same thing one thing that "New versions" are designed to take advantage of are faster computers or processing. For example, when the Original Pentium was released it introduced the MMX instruction set. From that point on, program vendors could either:

make their code use MMX
make their code use MMX, but also implement the MMX portions using 486 compatible calls
ignore MMX entirely.

Most vendors went with the second option. But now that MMX is ubiquitous it's almost forgotten. Nobody makes special branches to handle older hardware (by older I mean without SIMD or MMX), so it simply won't work on them anymore.

With a OS like, say, Vista- it's wasn't EVEN designed to run on computers that existed at the time, but rather for computers that would exist. And it runs fine on a computer today. People have this misconception that if they use an older OS on their newer computer- like XP- they'll suddenly have more "free processor" or something to play games. This is false, the only thing using an old OS on a new computer does is limit your options, your available Memory, and it doesn't make use of your shiny new graphics card UNLESS you happen to go into a 3D MODE.

I have Coreldraw 11. and it came with Corel Photopaint 11. and I need some help.

Whenever I USED any of the Mask Tools to Mask a section of a photo off it would make an Outline around it and they call it the Marquee.

It would look like Dots moving around were you made the Mask. And I would say a fue Days ago it stoped.

Whenever I make a mask now it will not show the Marquee outline. So I tryed this.

I whent into the MENUE Dropdown List and chicked Object and the whent down to Show Marquee and made sure this had a check.

Then on the Tool Bar I turned on Show Object Marquee and I made sure the Tab for Show Mask Marquee was turned on to.

And still when I make a mask it will make a mask but want display the Marquee Outline.

So then I tryed pressing F8 Key BEFOR I start Photopaint and this brings a WINDOW up asking me if I want to turn Factory Settings back. I click ok and still want show Marquee.

It was working a fue Days ago and no I did not ad new programs to PC?

Is there a SOFTWARE or ADDON that can directly save a fully buffered video(from Youtube or GoogleVideo) or streamed music (beemp3.com)?

What I NEED is a recording tool and not a downloader.Which means after the video/audio has been fully buffered when I replay the video after clicking the record button the video must be recorded and directly saved to my computer.

I USED a freeware called freecoder 4 which allowed me to record buffered music from beemp3 but doesn't work with video sites.

I need to load spywear,newer version of antivirus, ect. It has a PENTIUM processer and 1.5 GB hard drive with about 5.40 MB left. My aunt had the lap top before me and used it for work. I have tried to delete programs she had on here off thoughADD/REMOVE but I get error message. I would like to find away to remove unneeded programs but unsure which ones I can delete safely without messing THINGS up or just do restore. I don't now how to do system restore to factory and I don't have the right windows disk to do it with. Please help me someone.
PS. I also have trouble with one web site that will not let me click short cut to NEXT page with lap top but can did it with desk top slow dinossaur with windows 95. confused on this too.

Advanced Uninstaller Pro 2004 and Advanced System Optimizer V2 are good programs to clear disk space and have your system run smoother.

I went to the site to down load the free trial BUT found that it size was 9.05 MBs and I only have 5.54 MBs or so on hard drive. What can I do about this I'm stuck .

Ok I down loaded that program but I said it would not work with windows 95 needed 98 or better. So I guess I'm back where I started. To answer your ? I don't run both of then not sure if NT is running or not. But it has it labeled on the side of screen. Just wanted to make sure I covered all of it. This was my Aunt's work computer before I got it.

download software via the net....Presumably, the store re-installed Windows (ME ?) for you. If not, that's the first thing you'll need to do.

Also, I assume when you say the military gave you no software, you mean CDs / floppy disks? Without those, unfortunately, your only option is to purchase new copies. However, there are alternatives:

First, download ZoneAlarm from http://www.zonealarm.com - it's a free firewall that will help protect your PC when you're online.

Try AVG AntiVirus from http://www.grisoft.com - 30 day free trial and only $35 (if i remember correctly) for 2 years worth of updates. I cannot emphasise the importance of Anti-Virus software enough, as I'm sure you're now aware.

Sun's Open Office from http://www.openoffice.org is a good set of office programs (IMHO superior to MS Office, bar Excel) and is available for free.

Download some kind of spyware SCANNER (LavaSoft AdAware from http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware/ and SpyBot Search & Destroy from http://safer-networking.org are pretty good bets - both free) and run it every week.

And, seeing as we're stuck in the MIDDLE of Spread FireFox week, may I reccomend you download the FireFox web browser from http://www.mozilla.org - it should help keep the spyware down. They have a nice little email program called Thunderbird too.

Hopefully you have a broadband (cable/dsl etc) connection - it may take a while to download openoffice otherwise. If not, try to find a friend that does who can download it (and burn it to CD) for you.

Hope at least some of this helps, it's mostly my standard-stock advice, but if nothing else get a firewall and anti-virus. Please.

I foundout that you do not need a window live e mail to USE WIN Live to get your e mail from say VERIZON.

They say as Long as you dont want to use win live for its fetures you are ok.

I am having problems with AIM and MSN IM both freezing before attempting to log in. I TRIED reinstalling them but yet, I get the same result. They were working fine today until the problems with my webcam started which also FROZE trying to load it. During reinstallation, it freezes. I purchased the download version of InterVideo Home Theater 2. I thought I had created a BACK up CD. The software worked when I ran the CD. (I think it worked only because the software was still installed.)

When I ran into a problem with it, the tech from InterVideo told me to uninstall then reinstall since I had the CD. So I did. That's when I learned that I must not have done the CD correctly.

How do you create a back up CD for downloaded software?

Generally it's as simple as burning a copy of the downloaded files. Which burning software did you use and which files are on the cd you burned :-?I used Sonic RecordNow to burn the CD.

I went to Windows Explorer, my C drive, programs and then added all the Intervideo folders I saw. I also saw a folder in C drive/doc and settings/All Users/start menu. Apparently I must have missed something and/or I'm going about it the wrong way.

The messages that kept coming up when I TRIED to open the software from the back up CD mainly had to do with locating part of the software with - .exe. A "fix it" box would also come up, but it still was unable to locate the needed information.

The Home Theater Config. and Help opened, but not the TV functions.

This is new to me. I've never backed up anything except for my personal Word/Excel files and pictures/videos.

Hope the above is not too confusing. Sorry if it is.

Sincerely - KimberliI'm not familiar with your burner or with InterVideo Home Theater but it sounds to me that you have burned some of the installed files not what you downloaded.

After you had downloaded did you install the program(s) or did the installer automatically start. If the latter then it might be better if you go back to the supplier and ask for a second download for free.

To try to better explain what I'm saying, you have no way of knowing what the installer actually did, how many files it installed and where, and if it added registry entries. So when you went to C:\Program Files "and then added all the Intervideo folders I saw" you had no way of knowing if you had actually added all the Intervideo folders/files, some of which may have been installed at other locations.

Best try to explain your problem to the supplier and throw yourself at his/her mercy and if they come to the party watch very carefully what the download does and, if possible, save the downloaded file(s) to a known location from which it/they can be retrieved for burning as backup.

I would go straight to a re-download so you are sure you have everything you need. Be sure to finalize the disc when burning. What software are you using?

The latter problem is slightly easier to "solve" so I'll address it first. A common confusion the non-techy types seem to have is with Java/Javascript. They are both very different languages when it comes to the way they are handled, so Flash/Java PLUGINS have absolutely no bearing on Javascript errors.

However, you don't SAY exactly what you're errors are, and you have done very little in the way of diagnostics for us - probably because of the confusion outlined above. Is it only on specific sites you get the errors, and if so can we have an example of one that doesn't work? Or is is with every page you visit?

For your Yahoo! messenger program, you also seem to be barking up the wrong tree; IE and Firefox again have nothing to do with Yahoo! messenger, save for the odd additions of shortcuts in the menus.

I suspect what has happened is that you may have inadvertently deleted or have corrupted a file it needs to operate. Generally, reinstalling the app would replace all the files with nice new CLEAN and working ones. Try it, and if it doesn't work, do COME back.

If you formatted and installed XP clean then the Outlook Express address book is gone unless you SAVED the WAB to another hard DRIVE or E mailed it to yourself.
If you upgraded from say win 98 to win XP ...then the address book should still be available to you .
let us know how you achieved the upgrade .

I am looking for a software application to search a locally copied HTML document/webpage and at specific key WORDS or static locations in the HTML page, to grab the information and populate the information into an Excel spreadsheet at specific locations.

Currently I have a work around that is really a low cost jimmy rig setup. I am using a scheduled EXE macro that I generated through use of JitBit Macro Recorder to record Keystrokes and Mouse commands/movements to grab infomation and populate it into my excel spreadsheet. BUT there has to be a better way !!!! :-? :-? :-?

Or is this such an odd application of processes that I am running, that the Jimmy Rig of the Macros are my Best Bet at GETTING what I need, and which currently works for me, so dont change what works? :-/

It took me about 4 hrs of creating 63 single Macro EXE's for each page that it grabbed info from, to create the 63 Macros and compile them into EXE's, then put together a quick batch file that simply executes by the Windows XP Pro SP2 Scheduler and executes the macros in order from EXE 1 to 63 multiple times a day.

This process of extracting data from the web site and copying it to my Excel spreadsheet takes about an hour to complete, and I have to make sure that I leave my system logged on and at the desktop, so that the Macros when executed will function properly and not click on the wrong stuff.

Also god forbid the website should ever change, I would have to recreate the 63 +/- Macros to operate properly, while if I had the right software it might be able to adjust to changes on web sites by being able to change with DYNAMIC pages by searching for keywords and able to copy and paste the info to even a text file that could be then imported into Excel if a direct import is not available from the software to Excel.

This data extraction is used BTW to populate Excel spreadsheets which are then used to generate statistical resports etc in search for potential Trends at their early stages and perform market analysis on specific markets of personal investment interests.

Not sure if anyone will be able to step up to the plate with a solution for this one.... Its a very odd application that I have created that I have running..... Any suggestions??? 8-)

The other problem that I am facing is that I now have the need for more data extraction and analysis, and if the executions can only be performed one at a time on my current computer, to get more data, I am looking at putting some old Pentium 1, 2 and or 3 computers to work at harvesting data and populating excel spread sheets, connected together on my home network and pooling the data together to generate some powerful reports from readily available FREE Data, in which I can make some good profits. I am not investing large amounts of money, since I dont have much to invest, but with the reporting that I generate, it seems to work for me and has detected potential drops in trends beforethey happen BASED on other sectors affect in the relation of stocks on each other. The most influential is lack of supply for a commodity, which shows up on my reports, but the feeds dont show, and various other details. So it looks like a good investment with the market feeds, but my reports show it being a bad investent and have been correct 40% of the time. 40% is not a lot, but significant enough for me to keep doing what I am doing.

They are great for data for most of the investors but some of the reports I generate are different than what others provide, and can be created from the same data... So I am still back in a situation where I have data that needs to conform to my spreadsheets that create my reports and analysis's.

With less money to invest and smaller monetary losses hurting me more than an investor with a 100k portflio, I like to stick to smart investments. There is no guaranty and its a gamble, but I'd rather take an educated gamble than a gamble on strickly info supplied by a data feed..

Someone cracked my password and changed it on me. I'm still signed in on firefox and I've tried like 4 times to have the password sent back to me. I think they had my FireFox cache or password list and they went through all my passwords and changed them. CH was one of them. Using VLC I got this message -

But Windows Media Player can not play it at all. Not even the error message. At least VLC starts up and SOWS the message.

But It looks like the message is really in the AVI movie I want to watch. The movie trailer works alright. But the full LENGTH version starts with the error message and then quits. There is normal SOUND and video and then eater a few seconds it quits.
This has HAPPENED before on a different movie from the same studio. Does anybody now why that message is there?

i havent downloaded anything that i know of, its just games that run online.McAfee products are the worst. I strongly recommend you uninstall their AV app and replace it with ANY other anti virus (but do replace - don't run without ONE).
