Solve : Video Card Serious Error? |
Answer» HP Pavillion a1600n with Win XP This does look like it's caused by your video driver. HP only has one version of the driver available on their website. It's the same driver you're running (version 8.2.0.8 ). However you may try uninstalling it and then installing a fresh copy. Here is a link to the file if you need it: Thank-you JJ. I successfully installed the video driver, BUT I did not uninsall the old driver first because the instructions said I would get a prompt to overwrite the existing file. I did not get that prompt. Do I need to uninsall the old driver? Quote from: artbuc on May 31, 2012, 05:34:53 AM Thank-you JJ. I successfully installed the video driver, BUT I did not uninsall the old driver first because the instructions said I would get a prompt to overwrite the existing file. I did not get that prompt. Do I need to uninsall the old driver? I would. Did you get the one from HP or the one from Nvidia? Quote from: JJ 3000 on May 31, 2012, 10:11:09 PM I would. From HP. When I go into the control panel to uninstall the old driver, I see only one driver. Should I uninstall that and then install the HP? Thanks. |

Solve : Building a budget gaming pc need help! Plz look!? |
Answer» Ok so im upgrading from an Asus laptop cause i want to get into pc gaming. I play Minecraft mostly and League of Legends but im looking to get a pc that can play BF3, Skyrim, Diablo III and so on. I want a really nice running pc that i can play most games on medium to high settings with no/little lag. I have a friend who helped me a little, but i dont know much about all the specs i need and what parts are COMPATIBLE together. “System Builder” means an original equipment manufacturer, anhttp://oem.microsoft.com/public/worldwide/licensing/opccomm_retail_and_coem.pdf You are an assembler. The parts that you quoted cost HDD($99.99)+Phenom II X4($119.99)+16GB RAM($87.99)+Sidewinder X4 KB($47.99)+500W Corsair PSU($79.99)+Asus A75 Motherboard($114.99)+HD 6750 HIS($99.99)+Apevia ATX Chassis($64.99) = $715.92. Furthermore I would like to point out that your motherboard isn't compatible with your CPU your CPU is of the AM3 socket. You'll need to get an AM3 compatible motherboard, such as the AMD 890GX series/AMD 970 series.well i want to stick with AMD and i switched to the Sapphire Radeon 7750 before i looked back at this.Sticking with AMD CPUs won't give you a benefit today, AMD has already announced that they are already planning to withdraw from the higher-end market: http://www.tomshardware.com/news/AMD-APU-Z-Series-ARM-Tegra-3,14114.html And you'll be stuck in terms of upgradability. The Bulldozers aren't great, and if you really are a die hard fan and want to upgrade further then there are the server CPUs... There's no logical reason to stick with AMD when for a few bucks more you get a far more power efficient processor which can provide you with equal performance, you'll be able to save on the PSU too... http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/102?vs=289 i3 2100 vs X4 965 BE. Keep in mind that the i3 is a dual core, and look at the 174W vs 100W power consumption. When you level the playing field, quad core vs quad core, AMD seems awfully paltry... http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/102?vs=363 i5 2400 vs X4 965 BE. Granted, the 2400 costs ($189.99) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115074 Which is 70 bucks more than the Phenom. If you saved on your keyboard and motherboard and your PC case I really think you could squeeze out $70... It is also beyond me why you got a HD 7750 when you could have gotten a HD 6790 for the same price. http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&DEPA=0&Order=BESTMATCH&N=100006519&isNodeId=1&Description=hd+7750&x=0&y=0 http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&DEPA=0&Order=BESTMATCH&N=100006676&isNodeId=1&Description=hd+6790&x=0&y=0 http://videocardbenchmark.net/high_end_gpus.html Your HD 7750 isn't faring too well, it was designed to have no PCIe power connectors presumably for HTPC use, not gaming.... http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/radeon-hd-7770-7750-benchmark,3135-6.html It's worse than the GTX 550Ti in BF3, at 1680x1050 16xAF we're only getting 27-39 FPS..Definitely not a good bang for buck formula... |

Solve : CD - Home movies? |
Answer» I transfered home movies to a DVD-RW but can't get it to RUN on my laptop. It plays on my VCR-DVD combo player but the laptop player just keeps cycling over and over with no results. When I click on "Computer" it shows the DVD on the "D" drive but that all. However, a DVD from the video store plays with no PROBLEM. Any ideas? Thx MicromosHave you tried using other type of dvd -r instead and what burning software do you use? Use the VERIFY option when copying/burning the movie. No, the only DVD I have is a RW. This wasn't burned on a computer just a DVD-VCR combination machine. I can't figure out why it plays on a DVD machine but not on my laptop DVD player. My laptop is a new Windows 7 and I haven't learned how to BURN a DVD yet anyhow. But, that's a question for another time. W7 MAKES it so easy. START + WINDOWS DVD MAKER. |

Solve : low battery in mobile? |
Answer» Hello In contrast, sunlight can and does burn your skin. But nobody ever postulates sunlight might enter your brain and makes you stupid. Actually, some infra red energy from the sun does enter the surface of the brain. So far there is no law to prevent it. How on Earth would legislation prevent it ? ? Quote from: patio on June 01, 2012, 02:36:36 PM How on Earth would legislation prevent it ? ?Well, they almost have that in London. They just send in the Fog. I officially give up. Quote from: Geek-9pm on June 01, 2012, 03:08:44 PM Well, they almost have that in London. They just send in the Fog. Get up to date, Geek, those London fogs stopped about 60 years ago, after the Clean Air Act of 1954 (I think) banned coal burning in urban areas. People had to use "smokeless fuel" such as coke or weird products with names like Coalite and Rexco or else go over to gas or electricity. As I understand it infra-red and ultra-violet light cannot travel through opaque materials anymore than visible light. It is infact the absorption of the latter that helps form Vitamin D as well as eventually give us a sunburn. Other frequencies of electromagnetic radiation have more or less "penetrating power". Of course whenever there is thought of things passing through our body, there will be alarmists talking about it being inherently dangerous, without any conclusive studies. Maybe if we tell them about Cosmic radiation they'll seal themselves in lead and we won't have to hear from them again. The wavelengths used by cellphones are not known to be dangerous. This doesn't conclude that they are perfectly safe, but anything trying to paint it's danger as a cold-hard fact is simply wrong. I'm not a fan of cellphones myself but I don't consider them inherently dangerous. I think the only real danger of cellphones is when people use them when they shouldn't, such as while driving or doing something similar that requires them to be watching and paying attention to their task and not checking to see if any of their friends commented on their like of an LOLCat picture, but that's a problem with people, not technology. My favourite part is that I know somebody who completely believes this stuff. They will flip out if they even see you using a cellphone near them, because they are animate it will injure their health. My original meeting with this person was a one-sided rant about how I shouldn't be using a cellphone because it will take years off my life. Make me sterile, and other made up crap, often involving scientific words she clearly didn't understand. After a minute, I finally realized she had mistaken my MP3 player as a cellphone. (When I quickly fixed her various errors- one of which was saying that cellphones emit "theta radiation" which to my understanding only exists in Star Trek episodes at the moment), as well as telling her that the device I was holding was not a cellphone of any sort but rather a MP3 player she concluded with "never mind" and went back to what she was doing before as if nothing happened. Later, I saw her outside. Smoking a cigarette. My father was an electrical power engineer (a real engineer) for 40 years (big stuff, he started with 11 kV local stuff and ended up commissioning 400 kV "supergrid" transmission systems) (he's still ALIVE, aged 92) and he is a very matter-of-fact person not given to believing in woo science. A few years ago a "save the children from EM radiation" scare was going on in the UK tabloid newspapers and people were saying "my little Johnny got leukemia and his bed was only 3 feet from an electric cable in the wall". There was a protest by a group of residents where a 400 kV line was going to be routed so that some homes would be either almost under or directly under conductors. I asked him if he thought there was any danger, and he said "I know that the jury is out on whether there is much danger, but I personally wouldn't like to live under a line". He said he had often felt oddly depressed and cold when within a few metres of a supergrid line. He didn't know whether it was just psychological but even if it was, that was sufficient reason to avoid proximity. Re. the OP, why would the battery charge state make any difference? Interesting! But that is a very high power line, too, far more power, voltage, and presumably RF emissions than a cellphone. I don't doubt myself that there could very well be some PHYSIOLOGICAL response to RF interference, particularly in the brain which deals quite heavily in having a specific chemical balance as well as being "electrically sensitive" in many ways; we probably know more about the Moon than we do about how our own brains work. On the one hand, of course, low voltage EM probably won't do permanent harm, my logic is that the Earth's Magnetic field is more powerful than most such low-power devices. One could even reason that for high-power transmission lines it could be some sort of "distortion" of the magnetic lines of force of the Earth's magnetic field that could Disrupt nerve impulses in some as of yet unknown manner, (but this is pure conjecture on my part with no real facts or research). Add to this the fact that if that you'd also be near that transmission line if things went sour with it and it's no wonder people prefer to live elsewhere. Quote from: BC_Programmer on June 02, 2012, 02:10:22 AM I think the only real danger of cellphones is when people use them when they shouldn't, such as while driving or doing something similar that requires them to be watching and paying attention to their task and not checking to see if any of their friends commented on their like of an LOLCat picture, but that's a problem with people, not technology. I work in a finance office of a legal organisation. We authorise and process fees and payments and do audit and financial monitoring, and as you might expect, accuracy, care and attention to detail are vital. (They are good things to have in any job, of course.) Recently some staff contracts came up for renewal and one person was most aggrieved that she did not get an offer. She had caused lots of expensive PROBLEMS because she did almost exactly what you described above (her puppy's facebook album or some pink shoes on eBay or a racist joke or her football team) and she kept paying large sums of money to the wrong people or totally wrong amounts to the right people (10 times too much or too little) etc. Quote from: BC_Programmer on June 02, 2012, 03:02:32 AM A few years ago Chinese researchers apparently found that in those children who have a certain gene, EM radiation doesn't damage DNA but seems to inhibit DNA repair of damage from other causes, which may explain leukemia clusters near power lines, which was a big scare topic in the 1970s and 80s.I messed that last post up; it isn't a quote, it's my own work. Quote from: Salmon Trout on June 02, 2012, 05:55:47 AM I messed that last post up; it isn't a quote, it's my own work.Must be in your genes. Quote from: Geek-9pm on June 02, 2012, 11:01:16 AM Must be in your genes. I'm glad you didn't write "Must be in your jeans". I am, as it happens, close to a wireless router and a mobile phone. Solve : internal speakers/headphone jack problem? |
Answer» My laptop speakers eventually stopped working after I accidentally violently yanked out my headphone plug from the jack. Why blame the maunf's ? ? The hardware incident was an accident, I was blaming the lazy manufacturers for not making a sound card that blocks the noise of the fans appearing in the audio stream. But I just need to make a decision on what to do here with the jack, that and how to open my laptop, even when I unscrew EVERYTHING it will not open so I am really frustrated at the moment. Oh and by everything I just mean the screws on the bottom part of the casing and not the large components of the laptopYou'll have to open it up & repair the jack.Depending on the MODEL of laptop, there may be screws you've missed. Sometimes they're hidden under the battery, hard drive or memory COVERS, keyboard (once it's been unscrewed), and all sorts. The screws in the bottom are rarely the only ones that need unscrewed to get laptops open anymore. However, unless you're absolutely sure you can get the laptop back together after you've opened it up, I wouldn't take it apart. They're not always the easiest things to put back together. But if you insist on continuing, I'd suggest laying the screws out noting where they were removed from so you can get it back together. There can be quite a few of various lengths and sizes (my wife's laptop had 17 screws to remove just to get the thing open). |

Solve : Transferring Windows 7 from HDD to SSD? |
Answer» I've been having trouble with this for about 3 hours now, and have decided to seek advice!! NEED URGENT HELP! I just spent £140 on my SSD btw. Drive Image XML is giving me the warning: "Target partition must be at least the size of the original disk" which, by the way is impossible, because I can't partition my current HDD and my SSD is 240GB and HDD is 500GB,It MEANS partition, not drive. Unfortunate the wording is misleading. http://www.runtime.org/driveimage-xml.htm Using that program, reduce the size of the source partition to be the size that will fit inside of the target partition. This will take some time. It may be a good idea to defrag it fist. The only program I know that can do the whole thing reliably in one pass was the old Norton Ghost. You can use programs like GPart, but it is not as RELIABLE. Drive Image XML is very good, withing its limits. |

Solve : How to remove Findal Draft PDF Converter as default print option?? |
Answer» Currently, when I try to print something from the web, when I hit CTRL + P and the Print dialogue box opens, for some reason the default printer name shows Final Draft PDF Converter, not the HP printer that I use. I have gone into Control Panel>PRINTERS & Faxes and my HP printer is checked as the default. And when I go to print form the web and choose the HP printer from the drop-down menu in the Print dialogue box, the next time I print from the web, the HP printer setting is not "remembered" by the system, the printer name reverts to Final Draft PDF Converter again. |

Solve : DDNS and UPnP question? |
Answer» I have purchased an ip cam that i want to be able to view over the internet and on Lan. I have GOT this to work but I just need someone to clear something up for me. When I go into the Device status of the Camera I notice that DDNS Status says connecting all the time, but under UPNP status it says UPnP Succeed. This is all good that it's working, but it's left me a bit unsure about how I am connected. Would you say I am only connected through UPnP or through DDNS aswell? Like I say I can view my cam over the internet now outside of the Lan, but I'm confused. You need to understand the distinction between DNS and UPnP. I have set this webcam up using UPnP, but do you know how I would setup up a dynamic IP address in conjunction with a Dynamic DNS (DDNS) service? Can you tell me if the dynamic IP address is the one my Internet service provider assigns me or can I set this up myself? Thankyou!!As much as I would like to help you, I am a slow reader and some of these things I have not done myself. So the best I can recommend is you look over many of the articles written about webcams. Use either Google or BING and search: how Setup Webcams Expect results like these summaries here: Quote How to Set up a Webcam: 5 steps (with pictures) - wikiHowThe above are NOT the best articles. This is just to show you what to expert when you search. As to IP address, you do not set the IP address used on the Internet. Your local provider sets the Internet address. |

Solve : Battery charging problems.? |

Answer» Please is my problem formation. Yes, computer are working without one battery even without two ones! it has 2 battereies ? ? Just read a REVIEW on this laptop and generally it is very well rated.I did notice that one of its mentioned attributes is that it comes with a full 3 year warranty. So DEPENDING on how long you have had it if the problem is not a battery (because i doubt that 3 years is also on the battery) you might still have use of the warranty. Which battery do you have the 28whr or the 65whr battery? truenorthSeeing your minds' run I dare to suppose that updating issue are playing primary ROLE. No, among new Dell warranty machines row my computer haven't appointed. But manufacturer's site has a BIOS update version driver seems like picked up by my computer SERVICE tag number. So does I need to begin proceed upgrade ? My mind was NOT running in the direction of an upgrade to any of the software.I was concerned with a hardware issue such as the charger/adapter or the battery itself.truenorth |

Solve : No power after power cut? |
Answer» We had a power cut Sunday night while I was on the pc. I unplugged it straight AWAY hoping that would protect it . Power come back so I plugged it back in and turned it on but nothing happened, all I get is flickering light on the keyboard and mouse and nothing else. I'm thinking PSU but not certain. That sound likely? ... Cheers guysWell that would probably be the best place to start. However depending on the situation of the "power out" that could have a large bearing on what damage might have been done. For instance if it was due to a scheduled or even non scheduled loss of power in your area then the damage if any would tend to be less than if it was from a close by lightening strike. One causes power loss the other causes a surge or excess of power instantly. Both are not without possible negative affects on computers.truenorthCheers mate. I did ring a IT expert who said he doubts it's the PSU. He said he didn't think that was the problem due to the fact I'm getting flickering lights on mouse and keyboard. I know from past experience tho that isn't always correct. Cheers mate. I did ring a IT expert who said he doubts it's the PSU. He said he didn't think that was the problem due to the fact I'm getting flickering lights on mouse and keyboard. You would be right to doubt this, since it's just plain wrong! A faulty PSU can be the cause of nearly any observable symptom; whether certain lights flash or whether fans spin and so forth isn't indicative that the power supply is working properly, just that those devices are getting power. Sort of like when you have a brown-out, your incandescent light bulbs will still work, but a lot of other stuff might not. The various components in a machine have different tolerances as for how far from the norm they will work. It might be possible that the power supply is faulty in that it gives PWR_GOOD for a few seconds, then stops. If a machine does not RECEIVE PWR_GOOD, the CPU will sit in a reset loop. If this is the case than the PSU is actually working exactly as intended; parts of it's insides may have been hooped by a surge as the power cut or something to that effect. Good quality power supplies are designed to sacrifice themselves in that case. How a "sacrificed" power supply acts depends on how it was damaged. Not all power supplies just stop working; your's still seems to do something, but something kicks in afterward to stop it from powering up properly. It could also be the graphics card, too. Really the only way to find out what is wrong is to swap out various parts with known good components. The only way to really test that though would be to swap in a known-good power supply. Got some IT bloke coming tomorrow, he reckons it sounds like the PSU, plus the pc was starting to get slower which he said is a indication of a dying power supply. Thanks for all ya help |

I pushed the reset button and a black screen with white letters on it came up with "General Fault Error" and then a bunch of letters = numbers. I pushed reset again and a different error message popped up on a blue screen something about "trapped something or other" I can't remember since I seem to get a different message each time I push reset; including "read DISC error - press control, alt, delete to restart". will u consider to system restore via cd or reformat all again? if the memtest okay. n the disk test ok... that just mean system or worst.. try system restore or repair via windows cd 1st. it will not del anything except the system folder data n such. No, I will not consider a restore/reformat. I have just done that a few months ago for other WinXP related issues and that was a royal pain since my HDD is 250GB and I don't like to have to SIT for hours reinstalling everything. This is not software related. I am beginning to think it is the PSU is not a high enough wattage as I now remember I can not plug in my second HDD unless I unplug the first one. My video card, I just read, takes 300W itself and I only have a 600W PSU. Working on this test right now. Thanks for the input though, appreciate it much. that fine.. that mean u know what going on.. but system repair does not invovle any formating.. it just replace all ur system data that are misiing due to various reason like virus n more.. it just repair ur system n not touch any data n programming. hard disk size is out of question. dont use actual fromat.. the fast format is fine... but u can always keep the system file intact.. just leave the file system when asking to do so n windows will install without anysystem directories change... but then again.. it just my opinion. but since i also got trouble with my pc. then help each other is what matter here right.. i hope u will get solution n get ur pc live again. mine is disaster. poor me |

Solve : USB Malfunction [Urgent]? |
Answer» I'm a GCSE student in the UK (obviously) and today my USB suddenly stopped working. I GET a message saying that it can't recognise my USB. It's a 4gb Memory 2 Go. I've tested it on 4 computers. 3 Windows XP (SP3 Home & Pro), 1 Windows 7 (Home prem.). I didn't work on any of them. Thanks for the advice. Unfortunately, as you probably know the computer doesn't recognise the USB so I don't think that any data recovery software will work. Take to a trusted local computer shop. They will be able to recover you data. good luck. Let us knowSorry about the bump. It seems that there aren't an data recovery shops around here :/ Anyway, i'm practically done with my studies and just incredibly happy that the USB didn't break down any sooner. Thanks :D |

Solve : AOL TIMER? |
Answer» I don't know if this is the right place for this issue or not. I'm sure someone will move it if it isn't. I'm sure you guys must be familiar with the AOL Timer. Is there any WAY to shut it down? They KEEP saying there is no way to undo it, but I refuse to believe they installed something on their customers computers that cannot be uninstalled. Thanks Quote The AOL Online Timer lets you determine the NUMBER of hours your child can stay online. You can choose the time range, and give customized access everyday, which allows you to select a different time limit for each day of the week.Spend some time with your family and gently introduce this topic.... and don't "talk SMACK" about David Archuleta! |

Solve : Computer reboot issue? |
Answer» I have a M350 IXT computer case and a VIA LN10000EG motherboard. When I do control alt delete the computer will shut the processes off but does not re initialize. The same thing happens when I issue the command reboot with LINUX. I am USING Linux Centos 4.4 command line only. Is there a bios setting or jumper setting I am missing? The power supply is a PICO 90 watt power supply with 12volt dc input. In order to reboot the computer I have to push and hold the power switch in for a few seconds to get it to turn it off and then push the power button again to get the computer to come back on and then all is OK and it initializes fine. I need to resolve this issue because the computer is going to be a remote site and I will need to reboot it via SSh from time to time. |

Solve : My headphones sparking sound? |
Answer» I bought a Logitech Stereo Headset H110 from Croma India in April and I have a problem with bass instead of playing bass instead I hear something that sounds like sparks from the right ear. There is something like a copper wire that can be seen from the bottom of the right ear. Anyway that I can fix this? I took a few bass tests and my left ear was perfect with the right ear i could just hear krrrkrrrrkrrrrrHi, Hi, +1 on this. If it is under warranty, it is always better to replace.Yeah, if you're seeing exposed wiring, it's probably shorting the right SPEAKER. It could probably be easily soldered back on, but if you just got them, I'd take them back and demand a replacement. |

Answer» Hello Geek-9pm, the Panel Resolution is 1366(H):768(V) No. Your TV cannot display 1080 pixels vertically. The panel only has 768 vertical pixels. Thank you. Best regards. If I connect the 1080P player to my TV, which has only 768(V), will it not function at all or give a bad picture?Apparently not! The vendor makes no reference to either NTSC or PAL. When a vendor can not fully describe his product - buyer beware! The item in my number one link above (720P), says 'COMPATIBLE with NTSC and PAL'. Is this a better bet?I would say yes. I am not sure why they called it 1080p. The never make CLEAR what that means. So that makes think they don't understand their product. It has to be NTSC or PAL to be compatible with all TV sets. Please confirm, either NTSC or PAL makes it compatible with all TV sets. Quote from: Geek-9pm on June 08, 2012, 04:12:53 PM I would say yes. I am not sure why they called it 1080p. The never make clear what that means. So that makes think they don't understand their product. It has to be NTSC or PAL to be compatible with all TV sets. There are i-suffix and p-suffix video standards. The number is the vertical pixel count and i means interlaced and p indicates progressive (non-interlaced). I thought it was extremely widely known that 1080p means "1080 progressive", that is, a resolution of 1920 pixels horizontally and 1080 pixels vertically, progressive scan (that is, not interlaced) - TV sets have moved on since the days of the NTSC 525 line (480i) and PAL 625 line (576i) interlaced analog video formats. Quote from: floccinaucini on June 08, 2012, 04:18:25 PM either NTSC or PAL makes it compatible with all TV sets. That is nonsense. Quote TV sets have moved on since the days of the NTSC 525 line (480i) and PAL 625 line (576i) interlaced analog video formats. Could you please explain, if TV sets are no longer NTSC or PAL, what have they changed to? |

Solve : Dotted, contrasted moving lines everywhere.? |
Answer» So here's what happened. I was playing a game and I hit a key a bit abnormally harder than one should hit a key on a keyboard and the screen just flipped out. There are red lines everywhere and they SOMETIMES move around and they are dotted. Sometimes, but rarely, I move my laptop and the PATTERNS change, sometimes making the screen completely red and sometimes, making the screen normal. I am running Windows Vista Home Basic on a DELL Inspiron 1525 laptop. I'm guessing that it is just the hardware under the D key that has shifted or something because I can still get it back to normal by moving it, but I don't know how to open the laptop to get at the parts to re-sit the CPU. If I am off track with my prediction on what happened, please tell me what you think happened and how to fix it. Thanks guys! Here is a screenshot of my desktop. What it sounds like is the LVDS cable may have come unseated from the motherboard. if you do not feel comfortable opening the laptop please take it to a local repair shop to have this checked. if you want to check this yourself you can by opening the laptop and reseating the cable under the top strip above the keyboard. refer to the following video to see how to do this. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=txCMlP_syDs Quote from: Larry D. Solve : SLI driver installation issues? |

Answer» i should've addressed this a LOT earlier, but i have problems with installing drivers for my 2 EVGA GTS 450 cards. problem is, when i go to uninstall the old drivers and RESTART, i can't SEE anything but a black screen. prior to this nothing like this has ever happend, it restarted fine and just defaulted to my mobo. even when i PLUG straight into my motherboard i can't see anything. i have to physically remove both cards, put 1 back in, and then plug into it and install the cards separately. went into bios and didn't see anything funny or turned off. but im assuming i'm MISSING something. i need to update my drivers, its been a few months. i got so fed up with this process that i just stopped updating all together! |

Solve : PXE Error = BIOS/CMOS Setup access is not happening? |
Answer» I have an issue with trying to access the BIOS/CMOS setup. When the laptop boots up it gives me the PXE-E61 Media Test Failure, Check Cable along with the PXE-M0F Exiting PXE ROM. I have tried booting several times and pressing the F12 key which is for the Boot Manager with no SUCCESS. It just goes right into the PXE error again. I have also tried pressing the F2 key (Setup Utility) and get the same results...PXE error. I am unable to check the boot order & CMOS setup. I have powered down the laptop, removed the battery and removed and reseated the HDD making sure it is seated all the way. It still gets me the PXE error. |

Solve : Connect my PC to TV? |
Answer» HI all. I'm hoping to connect my PC to my TV to check out Nexflix etc. For a trial, instead of purchasing an Apple TV(or such) I'd like to give it a try out without the cost of such a device. My understanding is that I should be able to do this using a USB cable. My TV has a port labled (USB in service only). Question is; if I was to purchase a cable as listed below (assuming that it is the correct one)will this work and would this be all that I require for a trial?. Thanks. _______________________________________ _______________________________________ USB 2.0 A Male to A Male Cable - 15FT (Black) Latest USB version 2.0 specification, supports the new High Speed data rates of the latest USB 2.0 peripheral devices! And is also fully compatible with all earlier USB devices. Brand-new! Fully Guaranteed! Use with both PC and Apple systems! 15 foot length, great for external drives, printer, scanner, CDRW, etc! High quality, standard A-to-A, Male-to-Male cable with molded connectors. This standard cable will connect your computer to most USB devices. Specifications: USB version 2.0 compliant Supports Hi-Speed, 480 Mbps 15ft A to A, male to male, molded TYPE ROHS CompliantUSB ports are generally for data or devices, they don't do video feeds. If you want to display video from your computer on your TV, you need to find a cable that will connect to both your video CARD and your TV. What kind of video ports do both your cvomputer and TV have? For best results, use a DVI or HDMI cable (if your computer and TV have the ports). If your computer has one (HDMI for example) and your TV has another (DVI for example) you can get cables that go from one to the other without having to get adapters (this is what I use on mine, HDMI to DVI cable). You can also use a VGA port/cable (DB-15) to connect, but the results aren't as good. All of this depends on what's available on your system and TV. If you can tell us more about your computer and TV (model numbers, ports, etc.) then we could make a better recommendation. Quote from: quaxo on June 07, 2012, 10:02:28 PM USB ports are generally for data or devices, they don't do video feeds. If you want to display video from your computer on your TV, you need to find a cable that will connect to both your video card and your TV. Thanks so much. After the info. that you provided I wasn't too concerned with my TV capabilities, but more concerned with my older PC. (Cisnet Intel Pentium D 820) (approx. 4yrs old) Anyway, the manual is long gone but I did find a HDMI port on my PC (at least a HDMI cable fits and I'm totally surprised) My TV, LG (47LH30) also has a HDMI as well as HDMI-DVI IN /RGB IN(PC) and a RS-232C IN. So , if I understand properly from what you suggested I should probably purchase a HDMI Male - to - Male cable. Is that correct? Thks.Yeah, if your computer has an HDMI port and so does the TV, a standard HDMI cable should do the trick. You can get an HDMI cable for under $10. Quote from: quaxo on June 07, 2012, 11:48:18 PM Yeah, if your computer has an HDMI port and so does the TV, a standard HDMI cable should do the trick. You can get an HDMI cable for under $10. You can get an HDMI cable for under $10. Well I purchased a HDMI cable and I'm attempting to set up (Vista and my LG) using my NVIDIA (GeForce 210) Control Panel . Using "set up multiple displays" both monitors are detected and all looks OK. But when I click "Identify Displays" both icon monitors show # 1 on my desktop monitor and at the same time on my TV they both show #2. I have PLAYED with this for some time now but always receive the same results.Typically what shows on my TV is a blank desktop scene. I had a YouTube video photo minimized and when I maximize it, it shows on my TV but disappears from the desktop. I also tried to set this up using "Personalize" in the Control Panel but didn't get any results with that. Any ideas? Thks.I ended up curing my connection problems by buying a Apple TV. Then I had an orange. Problem solved. Thks., quaxo for your efforts. Quote from: naturegurl on June 09, 2012, 09:39:06 PM I ended up curing my connection problems by buying a Apple TV. Then I had an orange. Problem solved. I've encountered another situation that I sure would appreciate some help with. I'm very happy with my Apple TV, so much so, that I'm considering purchasing a second, to connect to my second TV. This particular TV does not have a HDMI port. I realize that I can purchase a HDMI to RCA cable. Reports that I have came across suggest that this type of cable is not suitable to connect from a PC to another device but I'm wondering if anyone can tell me(before I purchase a cable) whether or not this would work between the Apple TV and my older TV with RCA connections?. Should the answer be yes I'm assuming that the cable that I would require be a cable like this? 5Ft HDMI Male to 5RCA 5-RCA Audio Video AV Component Cable Gold Plated. Is this correct? Thanks in advance. Quote from: naturegurl on June 12, 2012, 01:22:02 PM I've encountered another situation that I sure would appreciate some help with. The problem with using such a device is that component doesn't carry HDCP which is necessary to play protected content from the iTunes store and without HDCP compatibility such content cannot be played". |
