Solve : correct cable for olevia monitor to dell inspiron 530?

Answer»

trying in vain to connect olevia monitor to dell inspiron--bought a "standard" to "mini" hdmi cable -- standard works great in back of monitor but mini side won't go in cpu. what should i buy? thx. What sort of graphics connector do you have on your pc? Does the monitor have a matching connector? If so, that would be the way to go. right now i have a very substandard cable--KEEP getting a message that my computer has an integrated video card and to unplug this cable. i'm an idiot and don't know how to figure out info to tell you....pc seems to have scsi outlets (2) and the LARGER one which it doesn't like me to use--also several usb ports. You said you have a Dell Inspiron - can you NARROW it down? Desktop or laptop? Is there a model numbe like 530 or 1530? Also, what is the model of the monitor? hi Eg0Death,
thanx so much for replying--it's a desktop dell inspiron 530--monitor is an olevia 232-S12 LCD HDTV.Where was your montor purchased? I'm not finding that model on the company's US WEBSITE. I did find a general manual for the S series.

The only connectors your Dell and Olevia seem to have in common is VGA.

Solve : Computer Build Problems...?

Answer»

I am customizing a PC and I am not sure about a few things. If anyone could help me in making some decisions that would be great.

The motherboard will have a FSB of 1333MHz if its an Intel processor or a FSB of 2600MHz if its an AMD processor. I am not sure which brand of processors is better, Intel or AMD, and what price is suitable for my NEEDS. I am looking to play games and use the computer for surfing the INTERNET and doing work for school on it. I multitask a fairly high amount of the time and have multiple APPLICATIONS running a good deal of the time. What would you recommend?

Processor:
Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 (3.0GHz, 6MB Cache, 1333MHz FSB) $169.99
Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 (2.40GHz, 8MB Cache, 1066MHz FSB) $189.99
Intel Core 2 Quad Q8200 (2.33GHz, 4MB Cache, 1333MHz FSB) $219.99

AMD Phenom X4 9850 Black Edition, Unlocked 2.50GHz, 4MB Cache, 2000MHz FSB) $184.99
AMD Phenom X4 9950 Black Edition, 2.60GHz, 4MB Cache, 2000MHz FSB) $194.99
AMD Phenom X4 9750 2.40GHz, 4MB Cache, 1800MHz FSB) $229.99
AMD Phenom X4 9600 2.30GHz, 4MB Cache, 1800MHz FSB) $239.99

Memory (RAM):
I am deciding between TWO speeds of DDR2 memory. Is there a noticeable difference in performance between PC6400 (800MHz) and PC8500 (1066MHz) memory. Is it worth the money to go with the PC8500 or not? I was told there would be a bottleneck with the PC8500, is this true as well? Here is a link to a page that says Intel CPUs are still beating AMD. You can compare the performance of the specific CPUs you have in mind.

Solve : Moved computer, won't boot properly.?

Answer»

I recently took my computer to a friends for a LAN party and it worked fine when it was over there. When I moved it back home, it wouldn't boot properly. It wasn't dropped or damage or bumped in anyway at all. What it does is the following.

-Hit the power button, all the lights go on and everything seems to get power.
-The Video CARD seems to get power, but I get no display. When I removed the video card I realized that the GPU fan had been alot louder since the move than before.
-After about 5-10 seconds of beeing on, everything powers off. Then, 5 seconds later, it boots up again on it's own. This problem went away when I took the video card out.

I haven't tried another vid card because I don't have a backup card.

I've made sure that everything's plugged in RIGHT, and settled in correctly, and it still won't work.

Desperate for help!Unplug all power sources.
Remove a side panel.
Making sure you are grounded remove and re-seat the following 1 at a time:
RAM
Vid Card
Any other addon cards.

Then check and re-check all cable connections INCLUDING both data and power.
Hook up the power, cross your fingers and power up.

Solve : XFX 8600 Gt Troubles?

Answer»

just wanna say thanks for replying guys, and the answers and responses to your questions:

The my 6800 is a pci-e as well as the xfx and it is new, and yes i may return it if my screen wont pop up at all with it in. I upgraded my bios and ill see what happens with that. I wish i can try it on another cpu but there isnt any around that i can right now.

For the f8 trick, i cant do it cause like i said i cannot see what im doing, the screen wont come up yet the cpu starts up.

There are no hardware error beeps when i put in the new CARD, but again i cannot see anything. Any info would be great thanks again guys! What's the wattage rating on your power SUPPLY? Dell has a history of putting low wattage power supplies in their machines.See if you can borrow another monitor and try it out. If the other monitor works, then you know that the card wont work with your 17 inch monitor.

If you cant even get into BIOS, then I would suspect that the xfx was DOA. I would call the card manufacturer and explain what is happening and tell them that you need a replacement card.two things, im not sure what my power wattage would be how can i check that and also how can i get into bios, sorryQuote from: metalrave on October 21, 2008, 05:49:28 PM

two things, im not sure what my power wattage would be how can i check that and also how can i get into bios, sorry
To check you wattage, open your computer case and look at the power supply. It is the metal BOX where the cord plugs into the computer. There should be a sticker on the side that has the info you need. It might say something like: 400W for a FOUR hundred watt psu. Make sure you are grounded before touching any internal components! Static electricity can FRY your motherboard.

As for getting into BIOS
When you first turn your computer on you should see a message to press a certain key to enter setup. It is usually an F key or esc or del. On most Dell computers it is usually F2. Pay attention as the message may flash very quickly.

Solve : New capacitors for Motherboard?

Answer»

Is it possible to REPLACE the capacitors on a Motherboard? If so can SOLID ones be used (like on the gigabyte boards, and where can they be obtained from etc??

Reason is we have a number of ex-corparte machines that have blown caps, otherwise working, seems a shame to waste them for the sake of some caps! You can replace them, make sure you get the neg.& positive correct. type in [replacecapacitors] google you tube has a demo siteWondering a bit what you mean by ''solid'' ones!

With polarized caps main thing is to stay at or better than the old cap's rated op voltage, plus of course value - altho as larger electrolytics are more smoothing than time constant a slight increase in value may not matter IMO. And, as xavier reminds us - care with polarity when replacing.

Non polarized, if any there and these anyways not so PRONE to fail - try and USE same type .... polycarbonate or other.

Final thought - while electrolytics can and do fail - maybe due to insulation breakdown inside - there are occasions IMO where failure may have been brought about by a failure elsewhere - so, well worth very detailed INSPECTION to look for PCB track fusings/high temp signs - and mini resistors etc.

Solve : Acer Aspire 3000 - blank screen?

Answer»

A few days ago, I was trying to reboot my system in SAFE Mode. As the laptop began to boot, I began pressing F8 repeatedly and suddenly, the SCREEN went black. And it stayed that way. I switch on the power and an orange LIGHT comes on, but nothing is displayed on the screen. And I'm sure the OS isn't loading either because if I switch off manually it just goes off immediately. A quick touch of the button will switch it off. Before it took several seconds of holding the button down.

Is my laptop recoverable?

If not, is it possible to remove the hard disk and connect it to another COMPUTER to retrieve the data on it?Should be able to pull the drive and connect it to another PC to pull the files if the drive is a 2.5 PATA you will NEED an adaptor

When the system is booted the following is displayed:

Phoenix Award BIOS v6.00PG, An Energy Star Ally
ASUS A8N-SLI SE ACPI BIOS Revision 0502

Main Processor: AMD Athlon 64 x2 Dual Core Processor 4200+

This is where the system sits for 4 minutes before checking the 3 GB of RAM. I first experienced this a few weeks ago but forgot about it because I haven't had to REBOOT. I shut it down last night and had a nice reminder when I powered it up before leaving for work. I will sulk about this until I can get home to work on it and thought I would bring it before the forum to syphon hints and tips from the members.

Test the REMAINING RAM with MemTest...
Check Device Manager for any wayward devices...

I'll assume you do the usual HDD housekeeping such as diskclean and defrag...Should have mentioned I recently ran Memtest when a stick of RAM pooped out. This was about a month ago and it ran overnight. The remaining 3 GB tested ok.

Device manager reports that THINGS are both hunky and dory.

C: drive has a fragmentation of ~3%After the processor check i believe that board checks the RAM next and this seems to be where it's hanging...
Try swapping the sticks around.
Are they matched speeds ? ?They are matched. All purchased at the same time.

I'm wondering if what my dual-channel settings are in the BIOS. When I had all 4 GB it ran as dual-channel, but that obviously can't happen with 3. I don't know if it was set to auto detect or if it was manually set as dual. If it were set as dual maybe it's hanging for 4 minutes while it gets forced to single? Or would the system just hang indefinitely? That could be the issue...but most boards are supposed to auto-detect it.
Worth a looksee for sure...I downloaded the manual for the board and there does not appear to be an adjustable channel setting for the RAM. I would try it with just 1 stick of RAM fitted in the slot closest the CPU...
Even though the RAM was tested a month ago you never know.
You may also have a bad RAM channel on that board.Quote

You may also have a bad RAM channel on that board.

Ack! Speakest not of such tragedies! Good Socket 939 boards are getting harder to find these days. I removed all but 1 stick of RAM, leaving the last DIMM in slot B1. No change. I tried the same with the other two DIMMs. Same result. I tried to get into the BIOS by repeatedly pressing Delete at the frozen screen. Not only was I not getting into the BIOS but there were no beeps of protest. Bad keyboard? Bad USB port? Bad USB controller on the mobo? I unplugged all USB devices and unearthed a PS/2 keyboard. They system booted to the Windows prompt (Press Ctr+Alt+Del to begin) in 55 seconds.

This began the process of shutting down the computer, plugging in one USB device and restarting, shutting down, plugging in, etc., etc., tedium ad infinitum. The HP psc 1350 all-in-one causes the system to hang - but only if it's turned on. I have hated this {expletive deleted] piece of {expletive deleted] ever since I first hooked it up about 6 years ago and watched in AWE as the INSTALLATION took over 45 minutes. It had only taken 45 minutes to install the OS on the same system! But I digress . . .

The source of my woe was an hp printer. Powering it down before reboot cuts the system boot time from a horrendous 4 minutes to an acceptable 55 seconds.

At least we eliminated alot of other possibilities.....

I think i'll add "If you have any HP products...remove them" to my flowchart diagnosis routine ! !Not a bad idea!

Solve : Sony Laptop seems totally dead?

Answer»

Bought a Sony laptop for a friend in the US and brought it to Thailand. It worked fine for nearly a month but now seems to be pretty dead.

Its a Sony VGN-CR506E.

Pressing the power button gets no response. There are no LIGHTS on in the front of the computer, even when the power cable is plugged in. The power cable lights up green and was able to charge another Sony laptop. Have tried taking out the battery and plugging it in with the bat. Have tried talking it in a stern tone and bribing it.

Found this when searching for HELP, I wonder if I should try to open this bad boy up? I've opened desktops before but never a laptop... prob not a good idea, but wondered if anyone had heard of this.
http://www.mech.northwestern.edu/hartmann/VAIOproblem.html

ALSO found some old posts of people needed to change the RAM from one slot to another, but those were from 2003.

Thanks!
I had to open my Toshiba Satellite laptop once- for some reason it suddenly only had 4MB of RAM (as opposed to the 144 it had- this is a very old (1996) laptop, BTW)). Needless to say, WINDOWS 98 refused to boot. (well, HIMEM.SYS actually crashed before windows even tried, but that's not the point).

So, I ended up ripping out the two front screws and lifting up the front faceplate thingy, and reseating the memory. Works great now, except I had to rip one of the screws out completely, thus stripping the plastic inside, so it's loose on one side. (IE, I can lift up the area in front of the keyboard and expose its guts).

so if you open it up, be sure not to lose any screws, and also avoid stripping too many threads. This is ESPECIALLY true since, with a laptop, screws are always shaped strangely, and the most important parts of the case are made of cheap plastic.Try this before opening the laptop: http://www.kb.sony.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?cmd=displayKC&externalId=C390934&fes=true&mdl=VGNCR506E.Thanks for the advice and link. Will try when I see my friend tomorrow.

I've been using a Linksys wireless adapter for so long I forgot how to connect to my router via wired. Be sure to choose date a few days before the problem

i keep clicking and clickng next.. it is all DONE??? think ders a problem here too..

[recovering disk space -- attachment deleted by admin]You chose a previous date, right?

Also, did the computer restart itself?

This might fix your Desktop Background:

However, it's a bit different for Vista.yah ive choose the previous date

but it didnt restart

im STOCK at the next icon y?? i did w8 for 10 mins but nothing happens...

do u think that the root of all this is the iexplorer.exe been deleted???

problems are

-start up gone
-folders,desktops, all in the desktop gone
-cant right click
-internet EXPLORER about blank page- offline but im fully connected to the internet
-on system restore im stock at the last step (next) and it didnt restart
-task manager>processes> iexplorer.exe gone T-T

only i can do is

Is it at all possible that the explorer.exe file has a different name in this localized version?ahhhh... is that the processes name for the internet explorer in the task manager?? explorer.exe??? can u post some image for me??Internet Explorer = iexplorer.exe

Can you please explain the problem again. Try to be as detailed as possible.

Solve : Only some graphics on webpages invisible on this computer?

Answer»

Hello. Does anyone ever heard of this type of problem? Everything graphics-wise was working fine until Dell took the laptop and SERVICED it. When we got it back, noticed that couldn't SEE some graphics on some web PAGES--some critical graphics such as the "click to confirm" type of buttons when making a purchase, among OTHERS! Warranty has expired and they will not correct the problem.

Being a novice, I am not sure if I will be able to supply all info needed to answer this question, but I've been told that it may have something to do with the video card. I followed the instructions given here and found out the video card is a "Mobile Intel (R) 915GM/GMS, 910GML Express Chipset Family" (this was listed two times in the Display Adapters icon.

The computer is a Dell Inspiron 6000, Windows XP, Celeron processsor.

Thanks very much for any info you have to share!!

TerryInstall the Java JRE Java Script Support Client from http://java.sun.com/javase/downloads/index.jsp

I would ALSO install Adobe Flash Player if it is not installed as well from www.adobe.com

Also be sure to perform all MS Updates for Internet Explorer.

One of those should fix problem!

Solve : On Board Graphics output broken - Is repair feasible??

Answer»

Patio:

If you were here, I'd plant a big wet one on you. I did as you suggested, and the new display still wouldn't, well, display. But I knew even before I tried it - I hooked up the on board display, and there it was. Apparently, I may have been right about a little jolt of static electricity during connection/disconnection being the problem - except that it didn't BREAK the onboard display module - simply LOCKED it up. I thought I had had everything audio/video/ and computer-related lock up at one TIME or another, but this is the FIRST time for a computer monitor. Anyways, thanks so much for coming THRU for me once again. You should publish your own little list of things to try when all else fails.

Thanks to all who participated.Nice one, patio Replace the board

Solve : PC WONT BOOT- SAME CONFIG AS MY LAST PC?

Answer»

Hi, i fried my mother board on my last pc (dell dimension e521) and found it was cheaper to buy a base unit with a faster processor.

Now the pcs are identical..... the base unit came with a hard drive but i wanted my old hard drives... so i took out the new harddrive and inserted my new ones set up exactly like my old pc.. i then put in my video card etc... the first TIME i BOOTED it booted up to my loging screen, as it normaly would.....so every thing was working... but after a few seconds. about 20... it would crash dump. The first time it crash DUMPED i reset it myself and the same thing happened, so i let it gather the info and restart itself........now i get nothing. no beeps, just a blank screen and i can hear the fans like normal.

any help much appreciated"...with a faster processor." There's the possibility that this faster processor is on a different motherboard. Just because it's a Dell with the same model # doesn't mean the exact same components are in both of them. Compare them.

Alan <>< i just realised that it was the bios that wasnt liking the slight change..... i should have used my windows cd to boot and repair the settings by pressing f12..... but after fiddling around changing bits... im now getting long beeps at the post.. still blank screen... but long beeps.. i hope i havent damanged my graphics cardQuote

i just realised that it was the bios that wasnt liking the slight change

This doesn't make sense...new MBoard = new BIOS.

A repair install would have been the solution but you can't use a Dell Recovery CD to do so...borrow an XP CD with the same VER. and Service Packs installed on that drive and try a Repair Install of XP

Before doing this however i'd check Dell's site for that beep code...you may just have something not seated properly.

Well this one got me stumped.I have a HP pavilion 9700 laptop that is giving me some problems and any help would be awesome.I want to set it back to factory settings but i have 2 major problems. when i go into recovery MANAGER and select factory settings it acts like it is going to reboot and show me the screen for doing so,but instead it just restarts the computer and TELLS me my recovery partition is missing, even thought i can go to MY COMPUTER and see the drive d is there.wonderful i thought,so i go to get my recovery disks out and for some reason my computers cd/dvd rom is not working now eather.I have reset the drivers and it still wont work, once i pop any disk in it will spin for a few seconds then nothing.no AUTO play nothing. Is it posable to go to another computer put the recover disk info on a flash drive and set it back to factory settings like that?and if so how?Did the optical drive work before?

Have you tried booting to a CD?I still has an optical drive its just the computer wont boot from it and wont recognize it at all.I have tried booting from disk and it ignores me.i tried to make the computer boot directly from disk but that did not work.even after changing boot order.Im stumped i tried to mess with it last night and now my Ethernet port is not working right ETHER. this has turned form a 2hour job to a 3 day long ordeal.well im thinking it is all part of a motherboard issue now.my internet adapter is not working and i cant update it.And when i press the P button on my keyboard it makes a * instead.this is killing me.

Solve : Third HDD not recognised?

Answer»

OK, I'm running WIN2K PRO and I've got two existing SATA 300 HDDs running in striped RAID. They've been running fine for a couple of years. I just tried adding a third SATA 300 HDD, to use as a dual BOOT, and it isn't recognised. What did I forget to do ?
SATA connector and power connector attached. Is it not recognized in the BIOS?
Does the drive spin up?
Try a different SATA port and cable too, just in case.OK, SATA 2 RAID was disabled in the BIOS so I enabled that and was asked for nvata.sys on SRCDATA. I found nvata.sys in WINTT sys.32 drivers and installed it, then asked for idecoi.dll, found it, installed it, rebooted. 'New hardware found' message. nVidia RAID device. New hardware installed / completed. Rebooted. No new drive to be seen in 'My Computer' nor Disk Management. I must have screwed up somewhere. Is the drive seen in the BIOS?You mean in the bootup ? No, just the 'healthy nVidia stripe'. Consult your MBoard manual for running a drive outside a RAID array...Nothing in my motherboard manual even approaches such a description.
I've tested the HDD and cabling on another machine with no problems.OK, I've abandoned that idea and gone back to installing XP on the existing unallocated space on the RAID array. That has gone well except that I now don't get a choice of OS when I boot up. The machine goes into the XP mode every time. How do I configure the boot so I get a dual-boot choice ?No matter, installing XP into the Win2K RAID stripe has destroyed the previous PARTITIONS. No WONDER there was no dual-boot. Another of Gate's gifts to the unwary.
Where's my Ubuntu disk ? It's a shame you went ahead with this without further advice and destroyed your partitions...
Everything i researched since i first saw this Topic led me to believe that it needs to be done when RAID is setup initially.

Others may chime in on this that know more about RAID than myself but sorry about your loss anyways.Ah well, thanks for the condolences. My problem now is how to wipe the RAID array disks so that I can split them for use on other PCs. I'm done with striped RAID, the speed gain doesn't warrant the insecurities.

I'm going to put one , larger, HDD in and rebuild my DAW with XP, but I do need to wipe the two existing Win2K HDDs. Any ideas ?

Solve : New Hardware, XP reboots during startup.?

Answer»

I just moved a hard drive, floppy drive, and CD drive to a new set of HARDWARE I put together. It was a barebones KIT, which included new Motherboard, CPU, RAM, Case, and Power Supply. I've put computers together before, but never ran into this problem. The computer asks wether to boot normal, in safe mode, last known config... etc. No matter what I choose, it REBOOTS. If I choose normal or last known config., it barely makes it to the windows xp logo screen with the loading bar and it reboots. It does this endless cycle until I shut it off Cold.

I had heard maybe the new motherboard drivers needed to be installed. But if I can't boot it... then how do I do it? The hard drive still works with the old hardware just fine, so is it possible to install the drivers before I switch it to the new hardware? Is this the most probable solution? HELP PLEASE!!!You can't generally take a windows drive that was installed on one system and boot it on another... In your case, clearly it won't work.

A few options:

I:
Boot your old mobo and make a backup of your data from your hard drive to another device. MAKE SURE YOU GET IT ALL.

(for copying your data you'll need a usb key drive or an external hard drive or a server or another computer that you can put your stuff on)

Then install the new mobo and boot your windows XP CD and do a clean install.

Advantages: This is the clean option. A fresh install of Windows will be best for speed and configuration. There will be much less cruft than any other option.

Disadvantages: if you forget to copy something off, its gone forever.

II:
Buy a new hard drive and do a clean install to it, then copy your files off the old hard drive.

Advantages: data safe.

Disadvantages: expensive.

III: Boot the windows CD on the old hard drive with the new mobo and do a install over the old windows install.

Advantages: probably won't lose anything, no extra cost.

Disadvantages: will lose all updates and will add cruft to windows drivers database and the REGISTRY. Computer will have to be updated and ... well its a big mess, and may bite you on the *censored* later.

A clean install should fix it. Just make sure you have the driver CD for the mobo handy.

It's also very helpful if you have XP SP2 install executable on CD. Many XP drivers require SP1 or SP2 to function, so after the clean install, install SP2 from CD and then the drivers that came with the motherboard.

Newer motherboards have Ethernet and USB controllers that won't work after a fresh install so you have to have a CD with the drivers you need, a USB key drive often won't cut it.

Be sure to save your important files...

Solve : Upgrading some parts, have a quick question?

Answer»

Gonna upgrade my motherboard, cpu, and cpu cooler. i was wondering if the cpu cooler's supported socket type had to match the socket type of the processor. for example, i plan on buying a motherboard that supports sockets am2/am2+/am3, and the processor i'm looking at getting is socket am3. so does that mean the cpu cooler has to support am3? or can i install a cooler that supports either am2 or am2+? thanks in advance. It's HARD to tell whether or not they would be compatible based on the socket type of the CPU. My guess would be yes, they are compatible. But that's a guess.

Newegg has only 2 coolers that are compatible with all three socket types. There are many that are compatible with a wide variety of socket types though, so it's still kinda hard to tell.To avoid an RMA, if you're buying online, I would just stick to a heatsink fan that is known to be compatible with your socket type.okay then. well as it turns out, there are a few coolers on newegg that are am3 compatible, but aren't listed as such in the guided/advanced/power search options, like these two:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835118020

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835118046

so i guess i'll be going with one of those. thanks for the replies.I only SEARCHED for coolers that are compatible with all three types though. (Also using the guided search)

But yes, those two should work for your CPU. Have you decided on a CPU yet?I plan on getting either the phenom x4 940, which turns out to be am2+ or the phenom x4 955 which is am3. I'm on my phone, otherwise i'd post the links to them and the mobo as well, which is an asus am2/am2+/am3 board.okay, now that i'm at home, here's what i'm getting:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131383

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103471
OR
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103674

for the processor, it's just a matter of deciding if i want am2+ or am3. of course i can't see why the two processors have different socket types, they're basically the same in every aspect, aside from the .2 ghz difference and the 400mhz hyper transport difference.Just to answer your first question - AM2/2+/3 use the same mounting bracket so any cooler that's compatible with one is compatible with all three.
Zalman coolers tend to be overpriced for their generally midrange performance so I'd avoid them personally.
Hope this helps yes actually, that helps a lot. i was just CONCERNED about the socket type of the processor limiting my choices for an aftermarket cpu cooler.Quote from: midnightfire on January 26, 2010, 11:45:07 AM

From what i've read, the main difference between the two socket types is that the AM3 is DDR3 ready, and the AM2/AM2+ are DDR2. So if you get the AM2+, and want DDR3 memory, it's gonna be bottle necked. And physically, the only difference is 2 or 3 pins. (I believe the AM2+ is 938 pin, and the AM3 is 940 or 941 pin. Unless they changed that)well i don't plan on upgrading to ddr3 yet, as i've got 6 gigs of ddr2 that i'm not done with. will performance be hindered if i go with the socket am3?Not at all. It would actually be a better decision in the sense that you would have the option to upgrade to DDR3, with the bottle neck. alrighty then, am3+ it is. thanks a bunch for the replies, gents!Quote from: t_blake07 on January 26, 2010, 06:18:06 PM

Solve : USB ports, mouse/ keyboard /and printer disconnecting?

Answer» OKAY it still happens, and now i've also noticed that sometimes when i turn on the computer, the printer seems to be malfunctioning. It turns on, but the lights on front flicker, unless i shut down the printer and reboot it. Do you think this might be showing that there isn't enough energy to power all the USB appliances? If so how would I fix it???

Thanks, NardopoloTry REMOVING all accessories attached to your computer, turn the computer on, and slowly START reconnecting them.
Start with the mouse, then keyboard, ect...could it be the USB connector?? alright i finally figured it out. My keyboard wire was constantly rubbing on part of the computer desk and bare wire was exposed. I guess it was short circuiting or something and by doing this took power AWAY from all other usb devices as well. Thanks to all those that helped.

NardopoloInteresting........

At least you've got it solved. Its either a power PBLM. or the board Quote from: yesterdayon on September 09, 2008, 02:46:34 AM

Solve : intel Core 2 Duo?

My computer, LAPTOP gateway with 4 gb is running slow. The computer guy advised me that only 1/2 of my processor is running and he could turn the rest on. Obviously for a fee. But I've never heard of only 1/2 a processor running. Any suggestionsYeah, get a different "computer guy" - this one is ripping you off.

What is the SPECIFIC problem you are having?computer is running very slow. I've removed SEVERAL startup programs, defraged and yelled at it. Last action did not help. Also it likes to freeze up at various times. Define "running slow" and provide more details about the freezing. Be as clear and complete as possibleabout three MIN to boot up then about two minutes before you can open any program. Freezing up OCCURS at about any point. Sometimes while opening a MS word doc or excel or even after getting on line. Also sometimes it will not shut down without depressing the power button for 20-30 sec. OS?Gateway with Windows Vista, intel core 2 duo power, 4 gb 320 gb drive, (smile) color black, First things first. And the first thing would be to be 100% you are malware free. We can run the basic scans, but if you have the time I'd prefer you go to the malware forum on this site and follow the INSTRUCTIONS at the top of that page and post all logs in that forum. Let those guys evaluate the logs and then let's go from there.OK but I need to do that later back to the origional ? does this processor really require to be activated or is there two separate processors in one and only 1/2 works while the other needs turned on.No such thing. Open device driver and click on PROCESSORS - what do you see?

Solve : Hp laptop led activity no boot?

Answer»

Hi guys a friend of mine asked me to take a look at her HP Laptop which is no longer booting. She said this problem had just recently CAME into play. No additional hardware has been added to the computer either. I have gotten the same results with both the ac adapter plugged in and not plugged in. When I press the power on button all of the lights on the laptop turn on such as the the sound control and the stop start and fast forward stuff at the top of the keyboard. Also illuminated is the BUILT in wireless feature on this machine. The power on light in also on but the lightning bolt and what looks to be a stack of cd's lights aren't on. And the lightning bolt and stack of cd's lights are right next to the power on light. (I apologize for the description) Besides that I do hear an ACTIVE fan on but the SCREEN remains completely black. There is no indication of a boot or even a failed boot so figuring in a dead hard drive would be the last thing on my list. I also tried to use a spare battery for this machine and no effect. Below are the specs for this machine. Thanks for your time.

HP Pavilion Entertainment PC (dv2000)
Vista Home premium

Sorry I couldn't get more on the machines specs as I never was able to get into it and my friend ISNT computer savvy to know the features by heart. That stack of CD's image is actually the HDD activity light...

Which means that HDD may have failed.
Determine what make of HDD is in that machine...travel to the drive manuf. site and DLoad their free diagnostics.
Follow the instructions to create a bootable CD.
Then boot to the CD and run the drive fitness test. Thanks for your advice Patio. I reseated the HD as well as the memory sticks in this computer but still no luck. Im going to let her know its "probably" the hard drive. I didn't have any luck finding diagnosis software on there website though Hitachi or Fujitsu ? ?

Can't remember which but one of them does not provide one.

PS....This will be the moment when she explains how her entire history of life is on that HDD and she doesn't have any backups.....Well the laptop seems to be ok now. I just tried to turn it on when I got home and it fired right up...Strange. There is another smaller problem that I have discovered...however it is software related so I will post in the correct forum.

Solve : Socket differences??

Can anyone tell me if there is any difference between AMD AM2+ and AM3 sockets? I seem to be GETTING CONFLICTING info on these, as I have an AM2+ Mobo, and am considering buying an AM3 processor. Any help would be appreciated. Many thanks AlexmaWhat is your motherboard and how OLD is it, what CPU are you using and what are you thinking of upgrading to?.
Most AM2+ boards will take AM3 processors but will need a BIOS update to recognize and run it.Thanks for your input. Specs as per 'specs' in post. I was thinking of going for the Phenom X4 CPU group of processers. I have an Asus M3A mobo, but am not SURE (& cannot identify it further,as all the manual says is it is 'M3A') I think it MAY be a '78' but I'm not sure) I can give the serial No if required. It is an AM2+ socket though, that I am sure of. Regards AlexmaSorry Alan2273, Mobo is about 16 months old.

Solve : Blackout of monitor when connecting s-video cable?

Answer»

One of my teaching colleagues is having a new issue with her laptop / s-video cable which she has plugged into a TV in her room. I've been searching the web to find the answer.

Up until today it has worked fine, but now the following is happening:
-she plugs in the s-cable
-turns on her Dell laptop computer
-the loading screen is visible, but basically as soon as it gets to the main desktop screen the video begins to display on the TV monitor and the laptop LCD display cuts off entirely. When the cable is unplugged the LCD is visible again

Is there a way (there must be!) to change this... She keeps getting a popup now telling her that the display will best be VIEWED with a resolution of 1200X800, but she SAYS the only difference has been that her icons on her desktop have gotten smaller (which I think is probably unrelated?).

Any ideas?
It might depend on the video hardware she has in the laptop. Some onboard video and some after market video cards will not allow a dual display, especially through S-Video. What she is wanting to do is "clone" the display, so the same display appears on both the laptop monitor and the TV.

If you haven't already done this, give it a try:

1. Go to Control Panel, and click on "Personalization".

2. Click on Display Settings, then click "Advanced Settings".

3. At the top of the window there should be some tabs. (Adapter, Monitor, Troubleshoot, etc.) Find the one that DESCRIBES either a video card such as Nvidia/ATI, or describes a Graphics MEDIA Accelerator or something similar. Click on it.

4. From here you might have to click on a "Properties" button, or not. Depends on the hardware.

5. From here it should show a "Multiple Display" option. You will have to connect the TV via S-Video cable at this point. Then it should give you more options.

These steps are based on a Vista operating system. If you are using XP or Windows 7, there may be some subtle differences in steps to get to that Multiple Display window.

If this doesn't work, you might want to post back with her laptop specs. (Hardware installed, Operating System, etc.)On my TOSHIBA with XP I just right click on an open area of the desktop and click "Graphics Properties" . There is also an option "Graphics Options" where I can choose "Output To" "Intel Dual Display Clone" "Notebook+Television"Quote from: cruisin702 on January 27, 2010, 11:10:58 PM

On my Toshiba with XP I just right click on an open area of the desktop and click "Graphics Properties" . There is also an option "Graphics Options" where I can choose "Output To" "Intel Dual Display Clone" "Notebook+Television"

You can access it the same way with Vista, but I wasn't sure about XP or Windows 7, so I thought i'd just give him the long way.

On my Graphics Properties, it says I have to have the other display connected in order to access the multiple display options. Like the ones you stated.

I think this is the problem though. When they plug the S-Video into the TV from the laptop, the default is probably to display on the connected monitor. They have to actually tell it to "clone". Which I think is pointless.

Solve : Sound and Microphone problem?

Answer»

Hello,

I have a problem with my computer regarding sound and MICROPHONE. I PLAY online games and I use a microphone a lot of times but recently, while playing, my microphone just stopped working...

When I turned off the game and went checking the sound and voice SETTINGS in the Control Panel, I found out that my microphone was recording and sending sounds to the computer but I was not talking to the microphone. I disconnected the microphone from the computer but still, it was recording a sound.

By that time I was listening to a music on the computer and when I stopped the music, the microphone bars indicating voice stopped appearing... And when I turned the music back on, the microphone bars went on again.

So, I think that my computer is recording sounds from himself and I've TRIED everything to put it back normal ways but it just don't work. I just don't know why this happened.

I can´t use the microphone anymore because when I turn it on during the game, my friends listen to themselves in what looks like an echo. They can't listen to me, and the computer records what they say and sends the same information back by the microphone output.

Does anyone have any ideia of what should I do to stop this?

Thank you for your timeRight Click the Volume Icon near the System Clock and go to Open Volume Control.
Go to Options --> Properties and select the Input in the drop-down menu.
Now, have a fiddle with those sliders and post back.

Thank you Carbon for the information.

I did as you said but unfortunately, the computer is still recording the sounds from itself. Now only one microphone bar appears to every sound I make instead of many bars (wich is good development) and the sound is recorded with sound at minimum.

The microphone still does not work tough... In the Input menu, mute Stereo Mix and see what happens.

Also, where are you getting these bars?I have my windows in Portuguese but in the control panel, i have an icon named Voz (Voice in english) and when i click, it shows the options of converting text to voice and on the bottom there is a microphone icon with an slide bar and when you use a microphone, on that slide bar appear litle bars corresponding to the person's voice.

So with no microphone connected, that slide bar showed lots of bars, corresponding to a music i was listening but now after all the steps you told me to do, it only appears one flashing bar, wich means the pc is still recording sounds.

After muting Stereo Mix, nothing happens. I'll try to use an USB microphone to see if something happens. I'll let you know. All right.

Quite Question, can you hear yourself in the microphone?I've put an USB microphone with an USB Sound card and the microphone part was solved Now I can talk clearly.

With the other microphone I did not hear me as I speak, but this USB one I hear myself as I talk and I can't hear music and other things... Interesting....

Are you going to stick with the USB Microphone or do you want to try and GET the other one fixed?

If you want to try to fix it, can you try to see if it works on another computer? With the USB one I can now listen to music and everything is as good as it used to be.

I tried the mic on other computer and yes it works Maybe it has something to do with my sound card. I'll check for that later. I'll stick with this USB one.

Thank you for all your help carbon All right, no problem.

If you need more advice, I'm sure I could conjure up some.

In fact, if this is a recent problem, you might want to try a System Restore.

Solve : Laptop shutdown with no reason or errors.?

Answer»

System;

Acer Aspire 5720 z
CPU: Intel Dual Core T2310 1.6 ghz
RAM: 2 GB
Graphics Card: Mobile Intel Graphics Media Accelerator X3100
HD1:80GB
HD2:80GB
OS: Window vista professional
Antivirus: Symantec End Point protection V.11
Adware: Superanti spyware.

Symptoms:

Computer random shutdowns, especially on high CPU usage such as video convertions, or video streams online.

After the shutdown I'm unavailable to restart the computer for a while. WINDOWS don't boots after several attempts. No safe MODE or anything. No beeps either. No error display. I usually wait about 15-20 min. I restart the computer and a message display said that windows didn't shutdown properly with the option of safe mode, safe mode with network, safe mode with command prompt or normal restart.

I have done it all, safe mode malware/adware and virus scan. No detections. System restore to a date before. Disk check for ERRORS, system repair, etc. Finally System restore to a Factory Settings (Window Vista reinstall and REFORMAT HD1)

Computer works fine for a couple of day, until shutdowns started again. I install speedfan to monitor the temp. idle temp is about 75C average. On full load 95C-99C. Especially when streaming videos online.

I was watching a video on megavideo when the first shutdown happend after the Factory resetting. Second time, video convertion with videora for my ipod. Then so and so.

Don't know what else to do.The max operating temp for your processor is 100 deg C. The temps you report are very close. I suspect that the symptoms that you describe are related to the processor shutting down due to high temp - the ACTIVITIES you describe are high CPU utilization activities.

1) Use a vacuum to clean around the air intake and discharge.

2) Clean the airways as best as you can. Remove any bottom panels that you are comfortable removing and clean away dirt and dust with a can of compressed air - clean the fan but stop it from overspinning.

3) Always use a laptop on a clean, level, hard surface - never on a lap, bed, etc that may restrict air flo into the air intake.

Best of luck.Thank you for reply. I use my laptop over a cooling pad. Also i already clean the CPU fans. I'm testing my computer with a fan close to it. Haven't shutdown yet. But i notice that the CPU temp raises really quick from idle to full load. It goes from 65C to 90C in matter of seconds when I'm converting a movie.

Is that normal. I mean, this laptop is less than a year and having that kind of problems so soon...Quote from: jlsdust on September 09, 2008, 01:41:05 PM

Yes, the rapid rise in temp is normal for that type of activity; it is not normal to exceed thermal limits.

Is your notebook under warranty?

Do you hear the fan run (and changing speed) when you use the notebook?

Are you comfortable removing parts of the case to try to clean the inside?

Yes laptop still under warranty, but they want me to send it to Texas I live on Washington.

Yes, I'm constable moving parts and working with computer components.

And no i haven't hear about fan run.
Since the laptop is under warranty, I don't think that you ought to take anything apart, buybut, rather, get it fixed/replaced under warranty.

I'm unclear about the fan - does it work or not? Regardless, I suggest that you follow through on your warranty.

Best of luck!Actually the fan do work, but i guess it isn't working good enough to kip the CPU cool. I have use my laptop all day with a fan directly to the back converting video and the full load temp doesn't go pass 91C. Write now is 81C and I'm ripping a movie.

Is any way to increase the fan speed using a software or BIOS? I'm not too familiar with it.You're under warranty - my suggestion is to let the manufacturer deal with it.Quote from: drmsucks on September 09, 2008, 10:18:13 PM

My computer gets very loud and fan runs extremeley fast ONLY when I go to monster.com. Any SUGGESTIONS? I have Win XP.The monster.com thing is probably just a coincidence, CLEAN out your fans and heatsinks but DON'T use a vacuum.thanks but what do I use?Compressed air, or just blow it out. If it's really bad and hasn't been cleaned out in years take a pair of tweezers and grab the wads of dust out. Make SURE you ground yourself before working in the case by touching a radiator or a faucet because static can fry components.yeah or use a special computer vacuumQuote from: apple266 on September 08, 2008, 08:13:46 AM

I think compressed air is much better and much more efficient.....and it's pretty fun.yeah I agree, except last year during computer repair class i got cold compressed air sprayed on my backside. Quote from: apple266 on September 08, 2008, 08:41:34 AM

LOL...was it good for u?The computer might be over heating, so don't run many programs at once (which puts pressure on the cpu) so if non of that works, you could see the temperature of your CPU using a PROGRAM (although they are not brilliantly accurate) so you could try installing a new fan which can be very cheap these days.Quote from: OnTheChesapeake on September 08, 2008, 12:21:40 PM

Is this an example of hyperbole? (Not to be confused with a hyperbola.) ;DMake sure you ground yourself before working in the case by touching a radiator or a faucet because static can fry components. If you use compressed air, take the unit outside or in the garage. It is amazing how much dust gets in in a short while. Almost had to wear a mask the first time I did this. Now I do it regularly.

Solve : DDR 2 help?

I am looking at an Asus P5k Delux motherboard and it says on the web site.

It take 4. DDR2 memorys and you can have up to 8. GB of RAM.
Then it says NONE EEC.

All DDR and any DIMMs have EEC that tock over Parity so what do they mean??
Can someone please go checkout the spec and tell me what they mean or if I am missunderstanding something.

Do you mean Non ECC?

ECC is a special type of RAM that detects and fixes ERRORS but is slower than Non ECC. It is fairly rare.

Because of the speeds and phenomenal amount of data moved by the typical DRAM chip it's possible that an occasional bad bit of data might be transfered to the CPU. Such as a bit being read as a zero when it's really a one. In most cases you WONT even notice when such a rare event occurs. You usually only see ECC RAM on HIGH end servers where even the smallest errors can be dangerous. For example, a bank server HANDLING thousands of on line transactions every second.

Solve : Windows Boot from CD problem?

Answer»

Hello i just BUILT a new PC and everything is working right except one minor problem. When the PC restarts it always wants to boot from a CD. I went into the BIOS and disabled boot from CD and put Boot from HDD on top of the list of boot choices. but when it restarts it looks for the CD boot disk. Then i have to go in to the BIOS and dont have to do ANYTHING then save and exit and it starts like normal.

any advice? Are you pressing F10 to "save changes and exit" in the BIOS and answereng "Y" to the prompt to re-boot ? ?
Is your system time on this machine correct ? ?I dont use f10 i move over to the exit bar and its prompt "Y' to save changes. and its weird you mention the time. i was having difficulties with the time it would set it self 2 hours BEHIND. it was set to auto configure the time through the internet. i Disabled that and now the time is correct.Replace the CMOS battery...bout the size of a dime on the MBoard...
Part # CR2032 available anywhere.

Do all this with all power removed.

CMOS battery retains all BIOS settings and it sounds like yours is LOSING settings.well the settings are the same when i go into BIOS i just have to go in and exit it. Ive set it once they are retained just not implemented when starting
But i will try a new battery just incaseOK so i replaced the CMOS battery and disabled the auto update time and now it restarts like it should.

Thank you for your help ☺Excellent !

Solve : Computer won't Power On (Tried the usual fixes)?

Answer» SPECS:
eMachinge T2885
2.8 Ghz Celeron
80 GB HD
512 DDR SDRAM
Windows XP (home edition) SP 2
Intel Extreme Graphics 3D
Intel Desktop Board D845EPI/D845GVSR

Issue:

Computer will not Power On

Circumstances when it happened:

Windows had just opened up the desktop.
I closed my AVG Antivirus software and opened a Word Document.
I had just previously closed Skype autostart and printer icon in system tray.
(All usual events that had previously caused no problem)

What happened:
AVG popped up to confirm I wanted to close it while the Word opening BOX displayed.
Then the cpu powered off (no noise, blank screen), but the LED stayed on.
(I had previously had an issue with the computer not wanting to come out of standby no matter how many buttons I pressed or how hard I pressed them )

What I've tried:
I tried pressing the power switch. Nothing happened, it stayed on with cpu off.
Unplugged and replugged in the Power Supply. The LED has stayed off since...
Switched Power supply.
Reseated all connections except Processor.
Tried looking at power on button, but it is ENCLOSED and I was unable to look at it.

Additional Info:
On both power supplies a green indicator light on motherboard stays on while plugged in.
When reinstalling the old PS it made a high pitched whine not noticed before.
The Power Supplies are set to the correct voltage.
The Power Supplies make a quiet hum, but no fans spin.
At one point after unplugging/replugging the first PS, on holding down the power button I heard something sound like it was wanting to start (like a jet engine), but I've been unable to reproduce the sound.

The power still does not come on, nor does the power LED on the front of the cpu.Quote from: matthewr77 on August 17, 2008, 05:34:50 AM

unfortunately eMachines are well known for having defective power supplies and motherboards. Consider replacement.

So...I should get a new power supply or motherboard...or both?

I'm still a little confused how one of them could be an issue if the LED on the motherboard is still lighting up.

Would it just be an issue of insufficient voltage?

I have a 3rd PS that I will try to see if my other "new" one is also defective.

Thanks.I meant, get a new computer. The LED lighting up means nothing. Try a new psu first.Quote from: Dias de verano on August 17, 2008, 07:23:11 AM

Thanks for the compliment.

I also recently tried a 3rd Power Supply and pulling out the CMOS Battery for 10 min. as per suggestion in the motherboard's online manual.

I recently pulled the motherboard completely out and I'm planning to go get a new one.

Does anyone have any concern that this will not work or that I am spending needless money? The new motherboard finally came in Thursday....however...

I tried installing everything the way it was supposed to be, but it wouldn't turn on. After trying to put the Power SW/HDD LED/ Power LED in different places the Power LED sat there turned on (I hadn't pressed the button) and when I did press the button the computer lurched to life for the first time in a month. The monitor came on and a new/different startup screen was displayed. The windows LOADING screen came up and as soon as it cleared the screen to show the log on DISPLAY it just stayed blank. Since then I have been unable to get the screen to show at all.

Important info:
There has also been an ominous red blinking light on the motherboard that flashes as soon as I plug in the computer. . .
(There is also a green light that stays on which I'm not worried about)

Any ideas on how to finally get my computer working again?

I am pretty sure the motherboard is the exact same as the original.UPDATE:
The new motherboard is working. I think the blinking red light is just showing that it is on (I was incorrect before stating it is always on when there is power). The issue ended up being with my wireless card that I had not used in a long time which was causing system instability.

Thanks to everyone who helped.

My only issue now is with a lack of audio which I will be posting in a new thread...

Solve : can't boot to cd. exclamation point. screenshot?

Answer»

hi,

i hope it's ok that i also post my problem at other forums. just being forthright (upfront).

i recently had a computer, hp pavillion 510c, given to me that was the victim of "rootkit activity", but now the computer is clean. the OS on the hard drive is XP. the computer with xp works nicely. there doesn't seem to be any hardware problems. i can use it for hours and it works flawlessly. there's no dust in the computer. plenty of fans.
what i have planned for this computer is adding a second hard drive as slave and putting a different OS on it (the second hard drive) so that i can have a dual boot system, but i can't get the system to boot from CD. there are two cd decks, but neither will boot any cd. i've tried numerous boot and utility disks and i get the "OPERATING system not found" message. no number to go with the message.

the first thing that needs to be mentioned is the fact that in the bios>boot tab, the CD-rom has an exclamation point in front of it. i don't know how to remove the exclamtion point. obviously this is an eye-opener. a screenshot is included.
i've tried disconnecting the HDD (and the floppy) , nothing was connected but the master cd drive (the jumper on the cd-rom is on master, and it's on the last connector on the ribbon cable, and i've tried other cables). i've tried everything in the bios that i can think of, but i am in no way an expert (that's why i'm here).

the bios is phoenix core version 4.06

bios revision 3.05
12/04/01

the motherboard is a Mat,NO: 126708 LOMITA 011110
i have never heard of these motherboards, but it's all the reasonably identifiable info i can find.

i have never reset a bios back to DEFAULTS, so i haven't done it with this one. i have not flashed the bios either. it may need that, but i know that to be a risky endevour, so i won't look into this without guidance.

i have included a link that shows three screenshots.
one is the exclamation point that is probably causing the problem.
one is boot-time diagnostic and quickboot screen, and one is the main tab.

http://tinypic.com/4duk6dna

i am not in a hurry to get this computer working, and i have it completely disassembled, so there is nothing i am not willing (able) to try. i have all the time in the world.

thanks.

Hello,

Did you try setting the OPTICAL drive in the bios as the first boot device in the boot priority list? If not try that. Also there should be a boot menu option during the logo screen when you start the computer (most models but not all of them) it will tell you a key to press to access this menu. This is a quicker way of booting to a drive that is not top priority in the boot list. Mine is the escape key but yours may be different. I used to own an HP desktop and i know that the boot menu was accessed using the F12 key. If you press this key then it should give you a list of drives that you can boot from. Select the optical drive and see if that works.it works!

it's hard to say exactly what, if any, changes had any effect, but these are the things that i did between the moments that it wouldn't boot from the cd and when it did boot from cd.

i UNPLUGGED the power cord to the psu and pulled the cmos battery for about 15 minutes to reset defaults.

i disabled quick-boot mode. i don't know if this had any bearing on the solution. i would sure like to know specifically what disabling/enabling quick-boot mode does.

i set the correct time in bios>general tab and pressed f10 to save changes.

giardmi09,

the f12 key has a strange function with this computer. one time pressing it put up a screen (right after your suggestion) that said "key lock error" so i changed keyboards. it didn't fix the problem, however. and f12 has had no effect ever since (it was worth a shot though).
thanks for the reply.

No problem. I'm glad you were able to solve your issue.

Give it a few moments and try printing again..

Make sure also that you are using updated DRIVERS... Reinstall the drivers if you have to...Thanks. Actually I figured it out. The printer's IP address was switched to auto and subsequently changed. I switched it back to the MANUAL address that the network recognizes.

This hasnt worked either. Can anyone suggest where or how I might get my CD's Data CD etc to autorun in the future. Thank youI have A Dell dimension 4600 1 Gig RAM, Pentium 4, WD500 Gig SATA drive, Windows XP Sp3.(Recently a clean install on the NEW drive)

After resetting the options in properties Cd Player I still cant get the Cd to Autoplay.Right clik the drive in My COMPUTER and select Properties...check the Auto Play settings and adjust accordingly....

Or See Here for other alternatives.Couple more things to try...

There are four registry keys to check. If any key is missing, create it (DWORD):
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer
- NoDriveTypeAutoRun - value "0"
- NoDriveAutoRun- value"149"
Same keys should exist at:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer

OR...

Download Autorun fix
Double click on fix.bat
When done, restart computer, and see, if autorun works.
If not, reverse changes, by double clicking on backup.reg created in same location where you ran fix.bat from. Thanks Broni that fixed it, I used Autorun fix.

Solve : Help me, speaker sound problem?

Answer»

My right computer speaker took a spill. There is static and the volume won't turn up.

When plugged into the power, there is static and buzzing. When also plugged into the computer, there is static and no buzzing, and I can hear music very faintly. This is unaffected by the position of the volume knob. The volume knob itself is PRESSED in from the frame a ways, I don't know if it was already LIKE that. I think it wasn't, but it doesn't seem like it's MOVEABLE at all (BACK into place, I mean - it still sturns like it's supposed to). When the left speaker is plugged into the right one, the left works well and the volume knob does have the desired affect on that speaker, with no change in the static from the right one.

What is wrong with my speaker? It sounds like something must be disconnected. I'm hoping it's a lose wire or something else I can fix. Also, PLUGGING the left speaker directly to the computer works but is unamplified (not ideal)- is that okay to do?

Any help or further information is much appreciated.

Aida support and updates ran out awhile ago...
Try Everest Home or System Information for Windows...both FREE.Just FYI: ATI Radeon HD 2400 PRO 128MB, ATI Radeon HD3650 256MB, and Radeon ATI HD 2600 XT 256MB are suggested by Dell for the Inspiron 530.

The card you have selected requires a minimum power supply of 300 watts. You should be able to tell if you open your case and look at the ratings printed on the side of the power supply. You'll definitely want to double check this. In my experience most Dell computers have a power supply that is just enough to support the hardware they are shipped with.It sez 300watts max on the powersupply so would it be safe to use it? and is the picture of the slots I linked 2 Pci slots and 1 pcie? The two green slots are both PCI-E. The larger of the two is probably x16 while the small one is probably 1x. The two white slots are STANDARD PCI. The coloration of the slots may vary. http://www.ebuyer.com/product/135098 so would be like safe to use this if it uses all 300w ? It sez its built for windows vista so would it only work on directx10?The card won't use all 300w.

It will work with DIRECTX 10, but XP drivers are listed on the manufacturer's web page. There are other components in the machine that require power...am i the only one not overlooking this ? ? The manufacturer lists the minimum PSU as 300 watts. I suppose I should have looked a little more into how they come by that number. It would be rather odd to list the minimum PSU needed to run JUST the graphics card, but then again, stranger things have happened. Did you uninstall all instances of the drivers before installing the latest drivers? Perhaps, an older version of the driver would work better on
your computer.See the below link.

http://ati.amd.com/support/drivers/xp/radeonxprevious-xp.html

Note:The lines going across your screen do look like a bad video card.

Have you TRIED removing and reseating your video card?well.. the problem was there before i updated the drivers.. I just tryed to update them because of the problem.

I havnt tryed removing my graphic card - and i dont know how to reseat it ?Reseating is just physically removing it and then putting it back - just to ENSURE all contact areas are good in the slot.

Does look like a major card problem - but, wondering too - if you change resolution does it look same? What is it like in safe mode - or if you change settings to 640 x 480, and 800 x 600. I expect it will be but just something to check out.i'm at my laptop atm.. I'm going to try safe mode first before i remove the card.. yes, i tried 800x600.. didnt change anything.. also tryed 16bit colours instead of 32.. To my big surprise the lines became purble instead of slight green :pactually.. now i remember i deleted a lot of random stuff at my desktop around the time it started.. atm i run a recovery program to see what luck it brings.. I personally think the problem is the physical video card itself.

...either that, or there's a pin stuck in the video card's analog or DVI jack......or...

Thanks for all your suggestions If you restored to an earlier date and it is fine then somewhere along the line you installed the incorrect driver for that card...Glad to hear that but - WOW - sure musta been a major driver mismatch/compatibility to yield that much problem. That was major!

Be useful to track back and see if you can work out how it occurred.Calling the screenshot i posted a major problem ? :p you should have seen my screen when i launched anything actually requiring graphic.. Most of all it looked like that Equalizer which is in Windows MEDIA player
