Answer» I am running Outlook Express 6 for my emails and I have one PC and 2 notebooks on my home NETWORK. I would like keep the Inbox & SENT folders on all 3 machines synchonised so that I can use any machine and have the same history. I tried some 'synchronisation' software but it doesn't synchonise at all . . it copies! As a consequence I now have multiple copies of all my sent & received emails on each machine. Does anyone know of a SIMPLE process, or software to help me delete all the duplicates? (I now have thousands). I would also appreciate any help on how to SOLVE my orginal issue which was to keep the VARIOUS PCs in synch. Thanks

If you are not attaching the Word document, what good is a link to a Word document?

Unless you saved that image to your hard drive somewhere and instead linked to that website if the image was removed and/or moved it won't work because Windows is looking for something that is no longer there. 7856.	Solve : Partition mistake...oops?
Answer» Seems I reversed which partition that I put windows on. I have a 500GB HD. I made only one partition, I ALLOCATED 10GB for windows, and the other 490 as my C drive. So, since I screwed up and reversed that when installing windows, I only have 10GB for my C drive. I didn't realize this until a few days AGO when my comp said "Hey dummy, you're running out of space on C:\ ! What did you make your partition too small or something?" Well, at least that's how I INTERPRETED it. Just in case you haven't figured it out yet, my question is: Is there a way to adjust the size of a partition without losing any DATA? I know this is achievable in Vista, but I'm running XP Pro.Google....."gparted"... That's a Linux downloadable utility that should let you repartition w/o trashing your OS. Alan <><

Answer» I work from a program where I fill out a PERSON's DEMOGRAPHICS screen and then it produces a Word document with those fields automaticallly filled in. There are times when I need the date ACTUALLY SPELLED out. So rather than 06/25/2008 I would want June 25, 2008. The merge field used is as below. 7858.	Solve : .NET Framework 2.0 WILL NOT UNINSTALL?
Answer» * Warning! Long post * Last year I had to get help here because Visual Basic 2008 Express Edition Beta 2 would not load on my computer. Something about configuration files. I tried to uninstall and reinstall using the normal uninstaller, and it failed. So I had to get REVO Uninstaller and use that. Then the same thing happened to Windows Live Messenger, though I don't think I posted it here. It wouldn't start because of that stupid configuration file! I got that fixed by installing the Visual C++ 2005 Runtime. (Did I say thank you for helping me with that? If not, thank you) But I still had a ton of work to do on this overhyped piece of [BLEEP]. So, here I am now, with yet ANOTHER problem that I simply could not fix. I'm TRYING to uninstall the .NET Framework 2.0 so I can install version 3.0, then install 3.5. Every time I go to Add/Remove Programs and click the uninstall button, it says this: Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 Service Pack 1 cannot be uninstalled because it will affect other applications that are installed. For more information, see http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=91126. The reason I have not used Revo Uninstaller for this is because I'm worried that it would "affect other applications that are installed". I'm half and half about posting the list of programing installed on my computer. It probably would help, but I'm worried about privacy. Nothing against CH. If you're updating to the latest version...just leave the previous versions installed. The version you are trying to install will look for previous versions and build from there. So...you should install version 3.0, then you'll probably have to reboot...and then you can install version 3.5. The reason you don't want to unistall previous versions...you may need to revert, if you experience problems during the new installs or updates.The .NET frameworks are not cumulative like the service packs are...they are STANDALONE helper apps. They are best left alone once installed.OK. The reason why I wanted to uninstall it, is because the .NET Framework 3.0 would not install, and I read somewhere that the .NET Framework 3.0 attempts to install 2.0, and if 2.0 was installed it would fail. But I will leave it alone. Does anyone have any ideas on why the .NET Framework 3.0 is not installing on my computer? When I launch 3.0 setup it KEEPS downloading 2MB of data. I'll post a log file if it helps.

Answer» I know that Windows Movie Maker hates MPEGs, but stupidly I decided to try and import an MPEG into WMM in order to convert it to WMV (since I didn't have STOIK on this computer; now I do). As expected, WMM instantly CRASHED and had to shut down. But now it crashes every time I try to start it up again. I get the same error message, "Windows Movie Maker has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience." The fixes I have tried include restarting the computer, and using System Restore. However, I tried System Restoring to a point earlier this morning, and a point on the 17th of this month, and both times upon restart, when I returned to the desktop, it said that the System Restore could not be completed and nothing has been changed. I don't really want to restore to an even earlier date, and am a LITTLE POed that the computer won't restore to those points, for whatever reason. I wish there was some way to just uninstall and reinstall Windows Movie Maker, but the only way I found requires a disc for Windows XP, and I do not have such a disc. I've read of lots of conflicts with WMM involving codecs and software, but I'm pretty well convinced that it will be a waste of my time to mess with that stuff because WMM has been working fine for me until I tried importing that MPEG today. The only other thing that happened, and I don't remember if it occurred before or after WMM stopped working, was a Windows Security update. I'm on Windows XP Media Edition. Have you tried System Restore in Safe Mode yet?

7865.	Solve : Failed Media Player 11 install?
Answer» Another Media Player question. Installed a new HD. Installed XP Home, no problem. TRIED installing Media Player 11. It wouldn't install, so i tried reverting to MP 10. It says MP 10 isn't compatible with 'this version of WINDOWS'. My Windows update automatically installed service pack 3 and apparently MP 10 is not compatible with the new service pack. Tried installing MP11 again, and again. It takes literally hours to install and at the end it says MP 11 couldn't be installed because of an error. It gives me error code 80070001. When tried finding out what it is on the Microsoft website I come up with nothing. Right now I'm using MP9 but I don't like the way it's laid out, so I'd really like MP10 or MP11. Anybody run into this, or maybe would have a clue? Thanks for any assistance. rowdy PS. Didn't you get a Driver CD with that MSI board ? ?
Re-install the MBoard drivers and re-boot.

Answer» hey i just formatted my comp, and the MONITOR is like 1 inch SHORT on all 4 sides. how do you change the settings?Try Control Panel --> Display. Also try installing the drivers for your graphics card (if you haven't already) and change the settings in the drivers (eg Catalyst Control CENTRE for ATI). Answer» I have Internet Explorer and Windows XP OS. I found a web site: http://www.wwltv.com/holidaygrunch2.htm with a video that I want to download and burn onto a DVD RW Player. How can I do this? The video was done using Windows Media Player(see URL above).Are you saying you can play the video while connected to the Internet but you can't "download" it? I believe Windows Media Player can not normally be used to capture/save streaming media. Does that website you posted sell downloadable videos? If so, then you must have a username and password to get them, right? No, it doesn't. It's not for sale or obtainable, other than some way to download or copy the video. I guess I'm out of luck...It uses MMS (Microsoft Media Services) to stream the unicast data, which already means its gonna be tricky to get. It does not seem to save it to the temporary internet files, which means you can't copy it from there, and you can't do a direct link save. So you are gonna have to live stream save it. This can be done using (open source) VLC Media Player http://www.videolan.org Download it from there, and install the program. Open VLC up, and either press Ctrl+F, or go to File>Open File..., or Click the arrow that looks like the open button on your cd DRIVE. On the website, choose the video that you want to save this time. Instead of left clicking it, right click it and choose "Copy shortcut". Go back to VLC, and where it SAYS "Open", paste the web link there. In the "Advanced Options" section, click the "Stream/Save" button, then click "Settings". Ignore the "Stream output MRL", it does this section automatically. Instead, in the "Outputs" category, click the "File" box, then the "Browse" button, and then browse to the folder you wish to save the video in. Type "filename.wmv", replacing "filename" with whatever you want to call it, and ".wmv" without whatever extension the video used on the website, which I believe is still ".wmv" from memory. For "Encapsulation Method", I would choose either MPEG 1, or MP4. For "Transcoding options", check the "Video codec" and "Audio codec" boxes, then choose the appropriate options. I would probably choose WMV2 for the video codes, and MP3 for the audio codec, just for compatability reasons. Then press "OK" at the BOTTOM of that window. Press "OK" again at the original "Open" window. It will now play through the video (but won't display it to you). When it gets to the LAST one second, it may or may not play it. If it doesn't, just click stop, then proceed to open the file normally from your hard drive with either Windows Media Player, or VLC media player. If it doesn't work with Windows Media Player, it will work with VLC, because VLC is good Hope that helps.

The problem is this: I want to run all my scheduled maintenance tasks in SAFE MODE without having to manually reboot into safe mode and then back again into normal mode. I can't find a program that actually HELPS you do this. I find reboot programs but none that I see actually lets you choose between normal or safe mode. Thanks for your help & time in this matter!!I don't know that you wil ever find such a program, free or not, based on how WINDOWS works.The boot.ini file has a /safeboot switch which MIGHT be helpful writing a script. I guess you would need another "safe mode" script to reset the boot.ini to boot normally. Without an OS actually running when you make the determination to safe or normal boot, your options are SOMEWHAT limited. 8-)

Answer» FED, YOU BE DA MAN!!! My problem has been resolved resulting indirectly from your suggestion, but I don't know / understand what actually resolved it. Here is what happened: After reading your post recommending that I "try another disk" I was in the process of preparing my post in response to yours in which I was about to report that I had tried all possible varieties of disks, but to no avail . . . . . Each and every variety that I had tried resulted in the drawer operating properly, EXCEPT those on which I have stored digital photographs. Then it occurred to me that there is one variety of disk that I had not tried and that was a blank formatted disk (I had tried blank disks, but not a formatted one). Soooo, I placed a blank disk in the drawer; closed it and used the Roxi Easy CD Creator 5 basis software to FORMAT it for future use for storing digital pictures to. When the format operation was complete I was able to eject it by depressing the button by the drawer. I then returned that same disk to the drawer; closed it and depressed the button, which resulted in it ejecting normally. Next I placed a a disk on which I had previously stored digital photos on (this is the variety that would NOT eject) into the drawer; closed the drawer; depressed the button to open the drawer . . . . . AND much to my surprise it opened normally!!! I have since tried numerous other disks of this variety that would not earlier reject and in each and every case the drawer has operated normally. Consequently, THE PROBLEM HAS BEEN RESOLVED!!! I do not understand what actually "fixed" whatever was "broken", but it is fixed!! THANKS, VERY, VERY MUCH TO EACH PERSON (Rob Pomeroy, street1, Phoenix910 and FED) THAT HAS POSTED A RESPONSE ATTEMPTING TO HELP ME!! I AM MOST APPRECIATIVE FOR YOUR ASSISTANCE.Thumbnail view in Windows Explorer pwerhaps ? ?Ok, now that we have established that the disk won't BOOT the computer, this could mean about 3 different things. A) A BIOS boot setting isn't set properly, but considering you installed XP using a CD previously, your computer isn't booting from that CD now and you probably haven't changed those settings since then, as well as the fact that the CD DRIVE is also not working in windows, this is probably not the case. B) IDE cable failure. When you BOUGHT the new cd drive to test out, did they give you a new IDE cable (the wide, flat, probably grey cable) to use, or did you use the old one? If they gave you a new cable, then this is probably option C. If they didn't, I would suggest buying a new IDE cable for around $5 and testing the CD drive with that first. C) IDE Slot failure. This is where the IDE cable plugs in on your motherboard. I do not know exactly how your settings are inside your computer, but they would likely be one of two things. Either: -CD Drive and Hard Drive are connected on the same cable in the same slot -CD Drive and Hard Drive are connected on different cables to differen slots If your hard drive and CD drive are connected via the same cable, then it is probably cable failure. If however, they are connected by different cables to different slots, then this would probably be a slot failure, in which case I will tell you how to connect them both on the same cable and the same slot. Let me know in your next post which one of these it is. In regards to the whipper snapper comment, no offence whatsoever taken . Just trying to put my knowledge to use by helping other people.I was typing the last post obviously as you posted yours, and it seems the issue has been resolved then, and the reason it wasn't booting was probably a BIOS setting, as for the discs working now, sometimes the software does funny things like this and just starts working. It could have also been a Roxio software issue, but either way, if it is working now, it's all fine.

I'm a little confused , if you have a legal valid copy of XP complete with matching serial code, why on earth would there be a blacklisted key on your machine ?.....and if that were the case , how on earth did that machine pass activation and WGA ?

Answer» I am trying to create a movie using Windows Movie Maker. The movie is a combination of pictures, video and music plus effects, such as fade in fade out, etc. Windows Movie Maker has captured all the pictures, video and sound, and the movie plays perfectly on the Window Movie Maker software. It then stores it in a temp FILE on my computer which is Windows XP. However, when I TRY to save the project to my hard drive in order to burn it to a DVD or CD, it will begin to save the project, but stops at 30% of the file. I have been working with this for days. I don't know why it stops saving and don't know what the problem is or how to correct it. I am at a loss as to what to do. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. laynieIt could possibly be a lack of RAM (unlikely), or a lack of hard-drive space. It could ALSO be a corrupt file in there, but this is also unlikely. If this is a lack of hard drive space you can either choose to save it at a lower quality (via the custom quality OPTION) which would also fix the ram problem, or get a removable drive of some sort and save it to that.Thank you for your reply. We do have enough RAM and hard drive space. The files that caused the system to hang up when saving were video clips someone took for us that we were incorporating into a project with pictures. Finally, we tried saving the file in SECTIONS and then splicing them together and it worked! We were able to burn the project to a DVD from the computer yesterday It took two weeks of trial and error, but I am happy to say, we were successful.Thats good to hear

It gives me an error message saying that i need to either try again at a later time or to ADJUST my network settings. I have downloaded the INSTALLER several times.

It gives me an error message saying that i need to either try again at a later time or to ADJUST my network settings.

Well i tried again, same RESULT, and i have no idea what i need to change on my network settings.

I tried the Microsoft help website but according to them DirectX doesnt exist.Where exactly are you trying to download it from?

If you still can't install it, check to see what version of XP you have. I would recommend being on SP 2 for a DirectX 9 installation, although not technically necessary, it would probably help. Alternatively, you could do a repair installation of Windows XP by putting in your XP disc, and choosing the install option (not the recovery console). When it says that you already have a windows xp installation in the following location "C:\windows\" or something similar to that, choose the "Repair" or "Repair Installation" option, and follow through the steps, then install DirectX

I installed Folder Lock 6 from softwaregeek. Now I see that it is not free and want to uninstall it but I can't. It isn't listed in my Control Panel Add/Remove programs. It is listed in All Programs but when I click the uninstall option, nothing happens.

Then after some time I took them home.I tried playing CoD 4 and LOTR:BFME again but it didn't detect the cd's.I COULD play aion though as it didn't NEED cd's to run.i tried uninstalling but it still couldn't detect them.So i uninstalled LOTR:BFME.I left CoD4 cause i could still play multiplayer.Then after some time i need space on my computer so i deleted Age of Conan.But few DAYS ago I felt like playing age of conan again so I tried INSTALLING it but again it wouldn't detect the cd.The same went for other games but the difference was that Age Of Conan was the only game i didnt install on other computer and it still didn't work. So I thought the only problems could be,that the discs are to strached or the thing that detects cd's is broken.So I tried installing all the cd's on another friends computer and they worked.Then I tried installing some other games and my computer detected the cd's. Try entertainment disks. a CD has music on it and a DVD has a movie.
