My Word software has been going crazy lately. First, it would not let me set the margins properly. No matter what I set the margins to in the "Page Setup" window, there would still be no top and bottom margins. Somehow it's now fixed! I have no idea what changed.

But now the cursor skips! Like I'll type something and hit Enter, and the cursor will jump to the end of the page INSTEAD of the NEXT line. I am attaching a screenshot of what happens.

Please let me know how I can fix this. Thanks!

Have you tried restoring the defaults in the Page Setup by clicking the Defaults button? Maybe something has been done to the margins that is causing this to occur.

I did try default.. to no avail! The strange thing is that if I download a Word doc from the net and open the file, it'll DISPLAY completely normally!I'm guessing it has something to do with your template. Try starting Microsoft Word 2003 using the below command the /a OPTION will not load templates and uses default settings.

"C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office11\Winword.exe" /a

If after doing that you do not encounter any issues as I mentioend earlier it's likely an issue with your template. However, could also be a printer driver related issue.

Try fixing the template by doing the following in Word.
1. CLICK Tools and then Templates and Add-Ins
2. See if your Document Template is Normal.dot. If it's not click the Attach button and select Normal.dot
3. Click ok.

I have a geforce 8800GTX video card and what I want to do is run my monitor at 1280x1240 and my TV as my second display. I want it to clone but be at 800x600 so my desktop will fit on the screen just fine. As of right now I have it CLONING my desktop but it is not at 800x600 even though I have set the TV as 800x600. It seems to just copy what my monitor's resolution is and ignoring what I set it to. If I change my monitors display to 800x600 my TV is mimic it and fix my desktop perfectly on the TV. But I don't want to have 800x600 on my monitor. I hope I have explained my issue well enough. If more information is needed jsut let me know please. Oh and by the way I'm using the NVIDIA display drivers.Typically the Nvidia driver will only allow you to set custom display RESOLUTIONS if you extend your desktop onto the second monitor. Mirroring is what you are doing and that uses exactly the same settings as the display mirrored. You should find the using the extend option allows you to set custom resolutions, however you will not get your icons or taskbar.wow, that does WORK. Thanks for that. I guess the mirroring just WONT work then?

Outlook 2000 is not functioning. The program is runs very SLOWLY and produces an error message: "mailbox.pst could not be accessed." which files have the strings and what's on each line that has the strings.

When I use Windows Explorer to search for a string, it displays all the files that has the string

I am looking for a text editor that I can THROW my users into that I can tell it to wrap all lines to 78 characters during entry.

It's doesn't have to be fancy, Notepad is working right now, but when the users exit the document I truncate the lines to 78 characters to store them in the application.

Any help would be appreciated.

My HP ScanJet 5200c scanner software is non-HP supported and my install disk is unfindable. I'm on Windows 98SE w/a Gateway Pentium III. I have been using the scanner 3 yrs w/ no problems until June 07 then my scanner icon disappears off my device listing yet my programs HP PrecisionScan icon still appears and allows the copy and trial sample copy to print, but the HP "EXE" click RESULTS with the HP Scan screen to appear followed by the MESSAGE "unable to locate the scanner device". My properties listing shows there was a change made in June07, so I assume this has caused the error. Hi, I am looking for the REGISTRY keys for Outlook 2003. I WANT to PREVENT user from automatically DELIVER their messages into a PST file.More INFO on what exactly you want to accomplish and on what machine...

I work for a company where some of the Outlook users have over 100 personal folders in their Outlook folder VIEW. When I want to change the folder permissions on each of those folders, I have to do each folder individually.

With over 1800 users in the firm...well, you get the picture. It takes me hours when ONE user requests a permissions change on each of their folders.

I've heard there is a Microsoft utility that will allow me to go in and make permission changes to all of the folders in a user's Folder List in outlook universally instead of individually.

Has anyone else heard of this utility, and can you let me know what it's called and where to locate it?

The easy option would be for me to just provide access across the board using Active Directory, but this isnt really an option as this would mean full access is provided. Some users only want to provide other users with access to specific folders only and not full access to everything. As a lot of the users are lawyers theyre not prepared to do it themselves, even after we show them how its done. This puts a lot of strain on our 1st Line Support crew.

Any help would be greatly appreciated I have also had this issue and we are using Exchange 5.5 with Outlook 2000. I also was told a while ago about a way to make it easier, but I dont recall the name of the utility. Problem we had also wa sthat Exchange 5.5 is no longer supported by MS, we were told to upgrade to a newer exchange, then MS engineers would help us... go figure $$$$ talks and old versions walk.

Fortunately we have trained our employees not to create the mess that you are up against. We have public files and folders, but have better control over it, but we did have one user however who is a dietician who decided to lock out her own manager out of a tree of folders by accident, and then could not grant access to the folder and tree again, causing a bunch of folders to become inaccessible to even the administrative level. Some bug in Exchange 5.5 allowed for this to happen. Our fix was a australian programmer who posted a fix and via paypal purchase to RESOLVE this for $20. Far cheaper than microsofts solution to upgrade to a newer version of exchange before we would be supported then deal with this issue. The fix reset the permissions somehow for the folders back to accessible via the domain admin. After this fiasco, permissions were altered to avoid her doing this ever again.

Good Day! I am running a HP Pavilion using a NVidia GE Force 7300 graphics card, with a AMD Athlon(tm) 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 4600+ 2380.3 Mhz. I have several RPG Games and while in the the games I will get booted out to the desktop (randomly occuring) when the SYSTEM does one of its continual CHECKS. Does anyone know how to fix this? On some games, it only KICKS me out to the desktop and some games I will continue to have AUDIO and the games RUN, but the video won't reconnect.Quote

I use Outlook for work, and I am not RECEIVING all of my email. There is one particular yahoo user that I do not receive all the EMAILS she SENDS. As far as I KNOW, I am not having issues with any other emails but this one person. She advised that they are sent successfully, and my tech team does not know what the issue is. I am using Outlook 2000. I tried putting the email address in my address book, and confirmed that we do not send anything automatically to spam. Can anyone help??

Running an XP machine, and using a SWITCH tied to the parallel port to take a picture. The parallel port TRIGGERS a batch file, which uses a dos-based 'acquire' utility. The goal is to take a snapshot of customers as they come into the store.
Works fine, except a window pops up every time I take a picture, the box says "connecting to camera" and goes away a COUPLE seconds later. I think this is a windows function, as it happens no matter which dos-based utility I use, as well as using infranview or XNview 'acquire' functions. I can't have this popup, as this PC is also my point of sale unit, and interferes and changes focus while ringing up customers!
Is there a way to turn off this popup? or somehow bypass it?

I am running Windows XP Home SP2.

I downloaded an E-Book and opened it. When I opened it, Windows told me it did not have a file association for files with the PDF extension. So I checked Add/Remove programs, Acrobat Reader was there, looked under File Types in Windows Explorer, the PDF extension was missing. So I reinstalled Acrobat Reader 8 and I got an error. Hmmm... I wonder how MANY people get Internal Error 2755.

What the h*ll does that mean??
I cannot open my PDF documents in Windows.

Is there a FIX for this??

I've got Outlook 2002 running on XP Pro and I first got an Outlook error message that my personal folders did not close properly. I hit the button to repair the problem... It ran for a while and then crashed. Now I get a blue screen with the "IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL" line at the top every time I try to open Outlook. Is there a way to HOOK up to a remote "Detect and Repair" CHECK-up for this version of Outlook?i would remove the personal folder from outlook in the profile. then run a pst cleaner. outlook gets funny with pst files after they reach over 1 gig in size. you can use scan pst to try and recover the pst file, and then add it BACK to the profile.

you can also try creating a new profile. it wil redownload all the messages currently in your inbox. either way you will still want to run scanpst to check that personal folder.

you can get scanpst from http://www.emailaddressmanager.com/outlook/Scanpst.exe.

save the file to 'C:\Program Files\Common Files\System\MSMAPI\1033' and you can just go to start, run, and type in scanpst.exe


lastly you can try running outlook in safe mode. go to start run and then type in outlook.exe /safe

I don't think that and other stats would be relevant.

This seems like a hardware problem, but it's a little too WEIRD. Might have something to do with driver, or some other essential program.

I started having problems playing a GAME (HL2), hitting any key would cause it to pause. I went to the keyboard CONFIG and tried remapping, but any key I pressed REGISTERED as "pause".
So I installed a keystroke spy, and after a quick test found that all keys, except for my left and right "control" and "alt" keys registered as "numlk"
However. I am typing this request for help on the same computer. Typing in any field, and typing in word doesn't seem to be problematic. Although the keystroke spy says that all this is "numlk".
Any suggestions?obviously "numlk" stands for "num lock". Perhaps you have some Sony laptop virtual-keypad utility running that you need to disable.
I should also add that when I hold "control" and any other key, it registers it as "ctrl + whatever key I press" and not as numlock as it normally would.have you tried pressing FN+Numlock Key?

What keystroke program did you install ? ?

I have an old laptop, IBM pentium II, built for 98, 128 MB ram, with two partitions. The one win 98 is on is 2 GB in size, and the other was about 11 GB. I tried to install win XP onto the larger partition, and it worked, but when i start it, it gets stuck on the initial screen, and will not do anything. When i start in safe mode, it gets stuck on agp440.sys

the safe mode line when it stops is

I tried running the setup from the CD again, but i cant get it to do anything, and the 98 part of the computer cannot access or even figure out that the other piece of the HDD is there. As of now, All I want is to get the second partition back to a useable status with win 98.

Well, i think i was able to fix my specific problem, I went in with a linux live cd, and used gpartition, where all windows programs couldn't touch it.


Now, I can access the drive, and its perfectly blank, but my bios still tells me that I have XP installed....

I have an excel spreadsheet which I need to password protect. I have opened:

Tools > Options > Security tab

The option for Password to Open is greyed out. Any idea why?

I don't know if this is relevant, but in the title bar for Excel, the name of the document is listed followed by " [Shared] "

YES it is relevant, you can't set a password for a shared excel document.

Go to tools > shared workbook > editing tab. MAKE sure you're the only USER who appears in the 'who has this workbook open now' list.

Clear the 'Allow changes by more than one user at the same time' check box.

It's all in the help file, just go Help then type in 'shared'.

Every time I try to run something requiring flash PLAYER I'm asked to download it, so I do, receive a message stating it's been downloaded then try to run it and get asked again to download - it just doesn't seem to stay on the machine.

Am I doing something wrong here? Are you electing to automatically install directly from the download or downloading and manually starting the installation? If the former, try the other approach, i.e. downloading the file first, then right clicking on it and SELECTING "Run as adminstrator". Does that work?Also..you may want to uninstall it, first, using CONTROL Panel.

Click the first highlight that says Download.

You may want to save it to the desktop so you can find it...
Another method is copy the file name you see when it asks save or open then when the DLoad completes just find the file using search.
Where are your DLoads saved to normally ? ?
If you post which browser you use we can help you set that up...I am very new to the internet, so far I have not Downloaded anything. I just use GOOGLE to find what I want and hope it does the trick so far I've been lucky. I have been USING my computer for mostly genealogy work and am having a problem

with saving .ged files. I go to file, then save as, and then I get 4 choices,

mostly .HTML. I want to change the file type to .ged so that other PROGRAMS and

people that I send the file to can open it.

My DAUGHTER says she has the same problem.

When a document is SAVED, why can't I decide what format to save it in. It won't let

me type anything over any of the choices that the computer gives me.

My daughter has a computer that the BIOS does not have a SECURITY section. With two kids she needs to SET a password between startup and Windows. That way she could monitor the computer

The BIOS SOFTWARE is a Phoenix-Award BIOS. It contains five tabs(Main, Advanced, Power, Boot, And Exit). What is wierd to me is that I have three personal computers and all three contain the "Security" tab, but then my computers do not contain a Phoenix BIOS.

Is there anything that could be done for her BIOS

Hello everyone,

I have recently noticed that my computer has developed a problem in regards to burning cd's or dvd's. I have 2 burning programs on the computer and both of them will not respond. The programs are Tescos Easy Record version 7.31 by Sonic, wich came pre-installed on the computer and Ashampoo burning Studio 2008. I noticed the poblem last week but I have not had time to try and fix the issue untill now.

When I put a cd into the drive to copy, the program freezes and a an error message pops up saying the program is not responding. This started with the Tescos Easy Record program. Yesterday I downloaded Ashmpoo burning studio 2008. The programe installed properly but when I try to copy a cd I get the same erro message 'Program not responding'

I had a Stop error blue screen message last week that said,

A problem has been detected and windows has closed down to prevent damage to your computer.

I have an idea that a critical file might have been moved which is causing the problem. I have created a file folder called Album Artwork, 'location C:\Users\Pictures' to keep all of my album covers in and I have noticed that a file has turned up there. It's an LST file named mvstcdxx.lst size 88.7 KB it opens with windows shell commor. I haven't the faintest idea how this file got into my Album Art work folder but I think that this might be the cause of the problem.

I would be very greatfull to anyone who could offer any advice in fixing this problem

Note that it is for WIN2K but it should work on XP as well.
The trouble with some burning programs is they tend to knock heads with each other causing symptoms similar to yours.

Best bet is to find a burning program you like and ditch the rest.

I'll give you a few personal recommendations here...keep in mind the following is only my opinion.

I have never met a Sonic program i liked or EVER used for more than 12 HOURS...period.
I am not familiar with AShampoos burner however i recieve 50 e-mails a month from them asking me to buy it.

For a free solution i would DLoad and install CDBurner XPPro. Very capable and will handle just about any format you throw at it.

For a paid recommendation my choice would be Nero. Some nice tools are included with the program.

Before installing either one depending on what you choose i would completely un-install the 2 you have...

I was TRYING to DELETE a name from a distribution list in Contacts inOutlook. I checked the name and hit the delete X. I now notice that there is a "remove" button. Maybe I should have used that "remove" button. Now, I can't find the distribution list. Do you think I DELETED it? Can it be recovered? (it was a large list) I looked in deleted items. I've been connected to the internet since i moved in to my new place,(about 9 months) and i've never had an actual Virus detected. Lastnight I downloaded the new CRYSIS Demo game and then decided to scan for viruses using PCcillin Internet Security. And what do you know, it found one. All my spysweeper and anti-virus has ever found was tracking cookies, until today.

When I try to open MS Office Word 2003, first a 'Windows Installer' window FLASHES quickly with a message 'preparing to install.....' then finally word opens after some time.
The other office programs; excel, access, etc, don't bring this problem when opened. What is causing this to happen? How do I get rid of the 'Windows Installer' window? My os is WIN xp pro.

Someone uploaded a file to my server with an apostrophe in the file name. Something added a backslash to it, and now the file can't be dropped. I've used EVERY possible combination. It can't be renamed either. Any ideas?

What do you mean by "file can't be dropped"?It's called getting "tagged". Happens a lot to FTP servers. This is when folders and/or files get created that contain reserved identifiers and confuse Windows Explorer, making it difficult to delete them.

This product has a free version that is limited to 5 deletion operations and will not delete folders.

Alternatively, have you tried the good ol' dir /x trick?

Open a Command Prompt window. Navigate to the folder that holds that file to be deleted.

At the command prompt, type: dir /x

This should produce the usual list of all files in that folder, but with an
extra column before the Long File Names (LFN) showing the Short File Names
(SFN), also KNOWN as the 8.3 filenames. Then use the del command with that
SFN.

Doesn't always WORK, but usually does. Worth a try.
I don't know much about servers ftp or otherwise but I had a problem a while back on my PC with XP. I had a file that I could not delete and tried allsorts with free programs and DOS etc to delete it. The way I deleted it in the end was to create a folder move the file to the folder and delete the folder. This worked a treat. Not sure if this will help but I thought it was worth mentioning.server = my web host

I don't know of a way to move the file AROUND once it's up at the host, but I will look again. My FTP program won't delete a remote folder that contains files. Sounds like a pretty good safeguard, but maybe I need a different FTP program?

I don't have a clue as to how to do command line commands on a file that isn't on my computer.The FTP program won't let you do anything you do not have PERMISSIONS to do.
So it's not neccessarily the program itself but more how the machine you are accessing is set up.
Check with the host's Admin...

hi everyone i'm in 11th grade n my teacher is making me write a research paper, and I could not think of anything so I was like ok "most important software"; and now I must argue why. so far my thesis states that the most important software is the operating system because it is always expanding to the users needs, it allows the user to configurate the PC how he wants it and because without it you can not really do much with the computer.

I was just wondering if you guys could give me some info maybe tell me some better supporting details or if you think something else is the most important software, whatever is on your mind any feedback can help me I have to write a pretty long paper on this so I got to get more ideas. thanks I would have to agree that the OS is by far the most important software running on your computer. Without it your computer would not be able to work.

However, if you need something else besides the OS another important type of software would be software drivers, which is software that allows hardware devices to function on the computer. Without drivers your computer would also not work as you wouldn't be able to interact with any of your hardware peripherals such as your keyboard/mouse/display/printer/cd-rom/etc.good to know that someone agrees with me I am probably going to have to focus on my main idea about the OS; thanks for the drivers info though, i'll probably add that info in the essay but I do not want to get off topic. A friend has just got a hp touch screen PC with a built in web cam, but is unable to get it to work, he has msn and we WENT thro the set up all was ok but no PICTURE " unable to CONNECT web cam as there is no web cam or it being used by another program", we put a normal web cam in a usb and it all work OK

Did it come with an installation CD of some sort? If it's a new piece of hardware that didn't come with the computer, it will need drivers.

I bought a pc with WINDOWS VISTA installed, I bought two NEW cd's and burned them which I thought was pretty EASY since they were burned by the windows media player. But then I borrowed some cd's from my buddy and went to burn them and they are ripped into my library but no artwok cover image comes up and I am unable to DRAG the cd songs to the burn section.....what the h***? is going on.....please help////Double Post.

I m USING winxp (sp2) i got a usb hard drive (external notebook harddisk with 120GB) i have plug it to my PC usb port, but it sometime will show that usb not recognize and sometime it run very well... is that the driver problem / the hardware problem?? anyone can tell me??Try to see if this problem occurs only when you use one particular USB port. Your computer should have at least two. Try using all the PORTS. Also, before you physically disconnect the USB drive, MAKE sure you double-click on the "Safely Remove Hardware" icon in the System Tray and choose Stop.

I'm trying to send an html email that contains links (ahref).

When I send an html email with Outlook to my Outlook Express client, the html links do not work. However, when I send myself the email with Outlook and read it through Outlook, all the links work just fine.

The links also work when sent to a gmail account.

I also took the same template and sent it using Outlook Express and sent to Outlook Express & Outlook. Everything worked fine.

Why is this happening and how can I fix it so the links work in Outlook Express when sending from Outlook?
