Solve : SAFEMODE MONITOR!!!?

Answer»

hopefully i posted this in the RIGHT board but i hooked up my computer and it sayd that the moniter is in safe mode and i need to activate USING the pc i have done everything it just stays on that screen i even upplugged it and hooked it back in what do i do?Maybe Windows is in safe mode? How about some specifics about the hardware and what preceeded this.

See below.i dont really know much bout its at my gpmas HOUSE and my friends just just whooop here ya GO a computer but it is in safe mode wut f button do i push to fix it?There may be an "easy" button on the bottom, but if not, wait until you have the computer in front of you and hooked up. Then post back. What the *censored*?I am new in this forum but I am not new to computers. Why do people never listen to what they are told? You cannot go to a doctor and HOPE he finds whats wrong with you if you don't tell him anything.

If anyone posts a problem please make sure to give enough info about it [smiley=thumbsup.gif].

my friend says all he knows it has windows 98 on it and his uncle built the thingThen the only advice can be take it to a shop. do u think i should just reformat it?In your first post you mentioned that you needed to activate it. Now it is Win98 on the machine.

Something is amiss here. Is the machine sitting in front of you? Do you have a legal MS Windows CD to install with? What is it? Have you ever loaded an operating system before?no its not right in fornt of me right now and i have put windows on computers b4

Solve : Power failure on hard drive me thinks!!!!?

Answer»

Hi really could do with some help. My old machie died, ahhhhh. Anyway bought a new little beastie and put both hard drive from the pld machine into the new one. Drive C was ok (little 40gig to keep software), HOWEVER drive E was nowhere to be SEEN. Tried placing it into an external housing unit and still did not appear. After several attempts i did notice i can feel drive C moving but not drive E so am I thinking that this could be a power failure with E, if this is the case is there anything I can do as there is about 100 gigs worth of data I never BACKED up, silly me. Or any other suggestions. Thank you for any help with this matter!!!!!!!!!!!!if it will not even spin up, the chances of recovering the daya are few and very expensive.

basically , a third PARTY company will reomve the plattens off the dead drive, insert them into a working drive, copy the data to a new hdd and mail you the new drive...Its NOT cheap, nor is it guarenteed. I had this done for companies before after floods, fires and other mishaps (LIGHTNING striking a pc and literally...blowing it up....) and have about a 75-80% success rate.

This is a generalized overview of the process, not to be taken on by DIY'ers.

If you can find the exact model and change the"PCB"circuit board sometimes
that will work.

Solve : New video card failure.?

Answer»

Ack! I had a nice question written out and hit preview, but accidentally hit back and lost it all.

Anyway, I'm having some difficulties with a video card. I'm trying to get a Geforce FX5500 PCI to work in a Dell e310, but whenever I try and plug the VGA into it all I get is a blank screen. I've tried turning the onboard card off, updating the video drivers, going into the registry and bios options, but all to no avail. From what I've SEEN, the computer does not even recognize that the card is there.

I know it is getting power due to the fan working, and I switched slots to see if it was just a faulty slot; but they all work fine. I'm thinking it is either an out of date bios (of which I have no idea how to update without screwing up the computer, I'm sure), or the card is just faulty. When in the bios the only options it gives me is "Auto" and "On board" or whatever, and no add in. And when I go into the adapter options of what video processor to USE, it only shows the on board ONE even though the video card is very cleary pluged in. :-/

I was thinking it was just a faulty VGA port on the card, but that wouldn't explain why the system doesn't even recognize the card.
I've also updated and installed hardware that came with the card, but that was of no help either. Even after talking with people who have Dell E310s and the same card who either had it work the first time or had similar problems, none of their solutions were of any help to me; though I do appreciate their attempts in the matter.

I would very MUCH appreciate any suggestions or help, even if I said I have done them above.

My specs are:
Dell E310
Intel 3.2 GHz HT
2048 DDR RAM
180 GB Storage
Windows XP Home
PCI x2 PCIex1 x1
Manufactured Bios version.
Intel(R) 82915G/GV/910GL Express Chipset Family (128MB)
Internal Video Bios.

Also, I'm having a problem with my on-board card in the mean time, while trying to fix this add in video card problem. Whenever I try to play a 3-d game I keep on getting the error "Cannot initialize 3-d Engine" or "Make sure you are able to support lighting 1.1" or something. I know this onboard card is crappy, but the on board card on another computer is much older and still able to do these things. :-?

Thanks to all who spent the time in reading this, especially those who take the time in trying to help me in my plight.
I'm not all that good with doing things myself without specific instructions, so any help will be very much appreciated in this matter.

Solve : pc died?

Answer»

My daughter's pc was switched off but the optical mouse and web cam were flashing then it wouldn't switch on. I checked power lead etc and have now bought new power supply that when plugged into MAINS the fan comes on (both on power supply and motherboard) but nothing else. I am I right in thinking I now need to buy a new motherboard?
Alternatively we have an older pc, is it possible to just switch or piggy back the hard drives, as there are programs on the newer one that I don't have any more + hassle of settingit all back up again.
thanksWhat happened before it wouldn't turn on? You say you turned it off, did you shut it down properly or not? Any past problems?I am presuming it was shut down properly as she usually does it ok. She came home and wanted to play a free cd from her DAD and when she went to the pc the web cam and mouse were both flashing. she then tried to turn it on with the power switch and nothing happened, the flashing had stopped by then. there hadn't been any power cuts or anything and the pc was working fine the last TIME it was used about a week before.More info on the machine would be helpful
Make/model if SHOP bought, if custom built or you don't know then hardware specs would be useful
Also the OS, any previous problems, etc
I would say download Everest and post a report but if it won't boot then that obviously won't WORK

Solve : CPU Fan Fail?

Answer»

Hi,

I was wondering if i could get some help here. i'm getting this warning message at the startup saying "warning: your computer CPU fan fail or speed too slow". Press F1 to continue...

I have open up the case and took a close look at it. It's spinning. But unsure whether it's spinning at a slow rate or a standard one. How do i get around this problem?

Thank you in advanceYo.Sorry,

I accidentally pressed send button while writing to post

Sorry,

I forgot to give out my PC info.

It's ASUS M2N32-SLI DELUXE ACPI BIOS REVISION 0504

Main Processor: AMD ATHLON 64 x 2 Dual Core Processor 4600x

Thank youSeems to happen more OFTEN to AMD Cool 'N Quiet. Set the fan monitoring option below 800RPM in the BIOS or disable it entirely like I had to. Unless you want it to keep nagging.
Hi Raptor,

Thank you for getting back to me.

I was unable to find the fan monitoring option in the BIOS. Would you be able to give me more info about this? Would it be under some other name? i have been clicking all the possible selections but could not find anything by the name of "fan". Yes, i'd be more than happy to disable it if i could find it in the BIOS. It drives me nuts. But on second thought, if i disabled it, would i probably run into an overheating issue down the track because the speed of the fan might be slower below the standard or something. not sure?? but first thing first, i have to find that fan monitoring option first. Please give me some guidance.

Thank you in advanceI'll let you know in a an hour or so when I can restart this PC.
Hi Raptor,

i was wondering if you've got a chance to re-start your computer to look into your BIOS for the fan option.

Thank you in advanceQuote

Hi Raptor,

i was wondering if you've got a chance to re-start your computer to look into your BIOS for the fan option.

Thank you in advance

Sorry! I forgot entirely.

Here, I just restarted:

Power -> HARDWARE Monitoring -> CPU fan monitoring.

Put it as low as possible or disable it entirely. Low wasn't low for me at startup because it started at 400RPM and not 800 like I am able to choose on my ASUS A8N SLI mainboard.Hi Raptor,

Thank you for your reply.

I had a look at the BIOS of the machine that has troubled with the fan monitoring. i was unabled to find the fan monitoring under the hardware monitoring option.

Let me run you through what's listed out in BIOS.

1. System Information
2. Standard CMOS setup
3. Advanced CMOS setup
4. Power Management setup
4.1 ACPI standby state
4.2 Reset on AC/Power Loss
4.3 Resume on Ring
4.4 Resume on PME
5. Peripheral setup
5.1 OnBoard LAN
5.2 OnBoard LAN Chip BOOT ROM
5.3 Init. Graphic Adapter Priority
5.4 OnBoard Serial Port
5.5 OnBoard Parallel Port
..
6. Hardware Monitor setup - i can see a list of hardware items there but they're all greyed out - nothing to select whatsoever.
7. Password Option
...

In this case, what should i do?

Thank you in advanceHave you looked through the mainboard manual YET?

I'll look it up as well when I'm at work and see if I can find anything.I had a look in the manual today and it is definitely under the hardware monitoring section. Download the manual from http://www.asus.com and see.. If I recall correctly, section 4.3

Solve : Major Boot Up Issue?

Answer»

Ok, so where do i start..

A while back i INSTALLED SUSE 10 on a GRUB partition with XP. That was all fine and dandy and i slowly lost interest in linux and somehow managed to forget my password (yes i'm an idiot). I started to RUN out of space so i decided i'd remove it. I did that, just simply downloaded partition magic or another one of them, deleted everything expect my Xp partition and rebooted, only to have GRUB not work (it had no idea what happened). So i reinstalled SUSE and just decided to GET on with it.

So today i decided that i had enough. I found out how to go about deleteing the partition and replacing GRUB with MBR, so that work grand, it booted up as i expected. So i used FreeDos (as i had before) and i deleted the other partitions hoping that MBR would be working now. But no, nothing worked.

I reinstalled Windows, so now i have two drives, one with the old things and this one, that i just booted up.

So heres where you come in, I'm looking for a way to go back to using the old drive.Download PartTition Magic Boot Disks and delete the HARD drive and reinstall windows..Use FDISK for a DOS removal or CFDISK for a linux removal to get rid of all existing partitions and create what you want.

You absoulutely do NOT need Partition Magic to do any of this. Come on there, Maksim, get it right.

Solve : ATI Mobility Radeon 7500 Pixel Shader Problems?

Answer»

I have tried to run some game demos on my Gateway laptop from August 2003 and they say my video card can't support pixel shader 1.1....I know you will say to buy a new card, but that is not an option right now....is there some program I can download to update my card or am I just out of luck?Try going to the Gateway SITE, looking up your model and seeing if there is an update for your video card.

Alan <>< Install the latest drivers and Direct X 9.0C

Laptops aren't meant for a games, buy a new desktop.Updating a video adapter on a laptop is usually not an option anyway. You WOULD need to get a new machine to game with, and laptops are not great for this any way unless you spend a lot of buck$. The Raeon 7 series? I would have thought all CHOSE cards would have de-composed by now, but what do i know.

You going to have to buy a new card, seriously its not hard and there is nothing u can do with software (I dont think they make drivers for the Radeion 7 series anymore).

Your Radeon 7500 has Pixel Shader: N/A I find that funny. Maybe its because my X1900XT has PS 3.0, or maybe its because my last PS N/A card, the VOODOO 3 is loong gone.Where have you been, Track? Quote

Solve : Shutdown after a few seconds on?

Answer»

I have a new ECS 865-M7 v2.0 motherboard and a Intel P4 531+ 3Ghz 800Mhz FSB 1Mb L2 CPU. All else is from previous machine. The first TIME I turned on the machine I received a code stating the CPU had changed press F1 to Continue DEL to start BIOS setup. I went through several restarts trying to figure out where to set CPU. I finally set BIOS to optimized and the CPU changed message went away. Then it went into a long list verifying DMI or something to that affect. Then shut donw again. I finally got to a screen that said Windows hadn't shut down NORMALLY. so I tried Safe Mode and Normal, but computer shut down again. I've tried exchanging the memory. I have two memory "boards" one 256Mb and one 512Mb same brand etc. Still shuts down automaticaly. I finally set just one hard drive and it still shuts down automatically in the MIDDLE of booting. Please help.
PS This is my 7th or 8th computer build.
Frustrated in Las Vegas.Reset your BIOS to default settings, you're most likely overclocking with 'optimized' settings...An overheating Intel processor will shut down quickly in self defense to prevent damage. Check your CPU/Fan mounting and operation. It didn't get past new CPU -- change in BIOS when using Default mode. The CPU fan is running and set tight against the CPU anyother thoughts? I tried removing all add-on cards as well and still shuts down. It goes through DMI pool check gets to Widnows didn't shut down properly. I select boot in safe mode it runs for few seconds more then shuts down.Did you install Windows fresh with this hardware, or is this a hard drive that was loaded in another system?correct me if im wrong (i very well could be) dont you have to re-install windows for a new CPU???
or was that just motherboard or somethign i cant rember.....(so much for the A+ Cert.)What OS is on this machine ? ?

I'm assuming XP so here's the drill when you change major components such as a MBoard and CPu...

Check Here...

patio. 8-)

p.s. I doubt this procedure will work after the fact but you can try...if not you're probably looking at a re-install of XP and re-registering with the Mothership.

Good Luck. And a reinstall is not NECESSARILY a bad thing. My bad I recehecked the fan on the CPU and it was not on as tight as I thought it was.
First time for using this type of heat sink - fan combo.
Now I need to repair/reinstall Windows XP Home Ed. The hard drive etc was from an AMD machine.

Thanks all for the help.

Solve : Canon BJC-2010 printer?

Answer»

Hi--
My printer (Canon BJC-2010) has been working great, but now it's not printing. It responds to the print command by sending the paper through and making all the right noises, but the page comes out blank--NOTHING prints. I tried replacing the ink cartridges, but that didn't help. I've unplugged it, and restarted it. I've SHUT down and restarted my computer, but that didn't make a DIFFERENCE. Any ideas?? (I hope I've given enough info, I'm new at this!) Thanks for any help you can offer

I'm not familiar with that MODEL. I had a BJC2000 years ago (1996 maybe?) Is it that old?I'm thinking I've had it since 2000--so about 6 years. I wonder if the problem is in the thingie that holds the ink cartridge and puts the ink on the page?? I took that out and examined it but there's nothing obvious. Any ideas are welcome!Clogged print head?

I ruined a Canon 2000 by using generic refilled cartridges. Never had a problem with authentic Canon ones. But again, all equipment fails eventually....Did you remove the sticky tape stuff from the print head?Yep, I did remove the cap on the ink cartridge. It's a big red plastic cover on these, which makes it easier! I am using generic ink from Office Depot, though. Maybe that's the trouble--If it is that, do you think I can just switch back to Canon ink or is there another fix?? If it is ruined, do I need to replace the printer, or just the part? Thanks so much for the help--It seems that printer is at least 6 years old possibly a lot more.
I came across a site that listed the OS requirements as 3.11 or NT.

From what I've found it looks like a cheapie anyway so you're probably better off buying a new printer rather than take the chance of buying a new Canon cartridge which may not fix it.

They almost give the printers away now so you'll buy their over priced cartridges.
I've had many Canon printers and have always found them good value when you CONSIDER the low price of the printer.

Solve : Need help with my computer booting up?

Answer»

I'm making a computer by scratch, I have all the parts, a 160 gig SATA HD, a 600 watt ps, a PCI Express 16x 256MB GDDR3 vid card, 1 gig of RAM, a DVD burner, and an ECS KN1 SLI Extreme Mobo, and an AMD Athlon 64 3200+ socket 939 chip, and the stupid thing WILL NOT BOOT UP, I'm starting to think its something to do with the chip beacuse I can't see anything on the screen when I try to boot it up, and it usually runs for about 5 seconds, then turns off... so its eather the chip or the ps, both are brand new... plz helpI wish I could help. My problem is similar but for different reasons. I have a trojan virus and tried to reinstall xp. Instead my computer goes to a blue screen and tries to dump physical memory after only being booted up for 3 seconds. I tried going into safe mode wih COMMAND prompt and it will not let me delete the partition. Nor will it boot up when I put int the installation xp CD. And SUGGESTIONS? Thanks, DCAREFULLY review your motherboards users manual and triple check that all devices are correctly attached.

also, make SURE your processor is compatible with your motherboard.

and just for fun, make sure ALL fans are RUNNING. please tell me you put thermal paste on your cpu, because they wont run long without it.

If you think it might be the power supply, put it in another machine if you have one and try it.

If that checks good, is your ram 1 stick or 2 512 of same make. Different make can cause problems with compatibility.

If that is good make sure it is seated right.

Solve : CD drive broke a disc?

Answer»

I have a computer with a CD drive that broke a CD in half. I was installing a GAME when there was a loud snap from the CD drive followed by a grinding noise like a CD getting scratched. I then canceled the installation and EJECTED the CD. The CD was snapped in half and the shinny side had scratches in it.

I am wondering what could have caused this to happen and whether it will happen with other disks. The CD drive was BOUGHT about two years ago.Faulty CD, I hope it hasn't damaged your cdrom too.
BTW, in all the time I've been here I have only seen this problem once before.Thank you for the information, Fed.
I tried another CD in the drive and it is WORKING FINE.

I am surprised it took so long for the CD to break since I have had it longer than the CD drive. :-?

Replace the CD-ROM drive to be on the safe side and no longer use CD-ROMS with cracks in them, they'll release all kinds of splinters inside the casing.

Solve : Laptop running slow and shutting off?

Answer»

I have a HP Pavillion zv 6000 laptop, about 1 and a half years old. For a while now I have had problems with it RUNNING slow and shutting down. Some times it will run slow for a while then snap out of it, other times it will shut down completely. This happens frequently. Even more so when I'm running games or programs or pretty much when I ask it to do something a little bit demanding. After it shuts off, it usually takes a ittle while before I can turn it back on. If I don't wait and press the power button immediately it will usually shut down again after only a few SECONDS. I have installed Kaspersky on it but I am not able to get to deep into the scan before you guessed it, the computer shuts off. Te laptop is also a lot noisier than I believe it used to be.
What should I do to take care of this problem?

Thanks in advanceUsually when a Computer Gets Relay slow for no evident Reason its because its loaded down with Mal-ware, or The HDD is dieing.

Solve : Opinions Needed: CPU Air Cooling Units?

Answer»

Hello Everyone,

It's been about 3 years since I did some serious RESEARCH into quality air cooling units.
I know that there has been so much change that I need to get opinions from recent users.

Recently I discovered my original installment of fans is not sufficient to keep the computer cooled.
I also discovered that my CPU has been overheating and resulting in shutdowns.

I have a limited budget so I need options that will let me cool my CPU and/or get more air out of the case at the same time.

My Computer Specs:
Generic Network Case ( I don't remember the make/model and it's that generic )
PSU = 450W
4 - 5.25 bays ( Currently used by two CD drives & two HD's with attached fan cooling units )
2 - 3.25 bays ( Currently only one in use by Floppy Drive )
5 - slots for additional HD's ( Currently all used )

Fan System:
Inward Airflow:
2 - HD fan cooling units in the upper 5.25 bays
1 - 120mm ( blows directly on 3 HD's )
Outward Airflow:
2 - 120mm ( blows directly out the backside )
1 - PCI slot fan ( directly under the Video Card & Sound Card, but, directly above the Ethernet Card)
1 - PSU fan ( Yes, I know this creates heat as well )
1 - CPU heatsink & fan

Note: All my IDE cables are airflow dynamic & all my power cables are neatly BUNDLED together to one side.

I would appreciate hearing any recommendations on what you use or what you have used and how you THINK it might help me here.
Thanks for your time & help in this matter!!

You forgot to mention the most important factors:

Mainboard, videocard and processor. My apologies as I didn't consider it to be relevant to give my MB, CPU, & Video Card specs.

MB = Asus A7N8X-E Deluxe (Rev = 2.xx)
CPU = AMD Athlon XP, 1800 MHz (13.5 x 133) 2200+
Video = NVIDIA GeForce4 Ti 4200 with AGP8X (128 MB)
Sound = Creative SB0090 Audigy Platinum Sound Card

I recently was made aware of the freeware program called Speedfan v4.3
I installed that and it sure is easier to work with than MBM5. That is a true tweakers program.

SpeedFan specs are showing this:
Temp1 = 46C = Asus ASB100 Sensor = CPU
Temp2 = 25C = Asus ASB100 Sensor =
Temp3 = -1C = Asus ASB100 Sensor =
Temp4 = 25C = Asus ASB100 Sensor =
Temp5 = 125C = LM75 @ $48 =
Temp6 = 24C = LM75 @ $49 =
Fan 1 = 9120 RPM
Fan 2 = 0 RPM
Fan 3 = 8130 RPM

Currently I'm trying to figure out what LM Sensors are & I'm trying to discern if something else besides my CPU is overheating which is causing the sudden shutdowns.

Note: If I play a game LIKE HALO or do anything that seems to make the PC work harder then I see the shutdowns occur.Try temporarily disabling the PCI slot fan and see if the temps improve. It might be that it is drawing so much air that it is having a negative effect. If it is drawing the cool air from the intake fan directly out the back, there might not be enough air reaching the CPU and PSU to properly cool them. If the slot fan has reversable air flow, you might reposition it above the video card so that it moves air upward toward the CPU and PSU.Clean your AMD Athlon CPU, apply Arctic Silver and buy a good, new cooler that still has a clean heatsink.

Is your PC dust free?

Thank You 2k_dummy & Raptor,

That was a good suggestion. I checked my PCI fan for reversibility but it would have required rewiring it. I did take it out though and installed another 80mm fan on the frontside for more intake.

Also Raptor I do clean out my PC about every 2 months with compressed air but looking my system over more closely I noticed some build up that was swiftly removed. I like a clean system.

I went ahead and PULLED everything leaving only 1 CD drive, 1 HDD, & 1 Video Card. I really liked the more open space in my system but still had the same problem.

I went ahead and installed a different Video Card & viola!! No more shutdowns..
My GeForce Ti4200 had a Thermaltake G4-VGA Copper heatsink/fan on it. The fan started making a noise so I replaced it with a Nvidia Aluminum Geforce heatsink/fan and I didn't have anymore problems until recently with these shutdowns..

I went and bought a Zalman ZM80C-HP w/optional 80MM fan.
I took off the aluminum heatsink and installed this monster Zalman heatsink/fan combination on the GeForce card.
The good news is no more shutdowns!!!
The bad news is that when I play a graphic intensive game like HALO my system still shuts down.
Would any of you agree that this probably means my GeForce card is damaged and not worth repairing??

Again, Thank You for your time & help regarding my situation. It is much appreciated!!I would definitely buy a new videocard if you are sure yours is the problem.Keep it for an emergency spare...That seems like a LOT of fans for that system. The video card is suspect at best as you have already surmised.

What is the make of the PSU and how old is it?Thanks again Raptor,

I had already started trying to accept the reality of this situation but there was that wisp of a hope I might have a miracle.
LOL.. well at least I had a good run with the GeForce card. I have a FX 5200 as well so I'll just use that for now.

Thank you Patio,

I totally agree!! It hasn't died yet so I'm not about to toss this baby in the trash

Thanks GX1_Man,

Well believe me.. For my next major PC building, I'm seriously considering if I can build a water-cooled system the way I want it.
I just found out about modular PSU's. Man, I've been out of the building loop for too long. Once I have the money, I want to buy this 500W modular PSU for like $180 at the store I go to alot.

My current PSU is an Antec DR-B450E which is a 450W & I believe is 3-4 yrs old. This is the age of my computer system. I bought all my parts roughly around 2002-2003. I wish there was a way I could test it's output. You could use a multi meter or stress test it using software such as Prime95 or Winstress..

Solve : I have two CD-ROMs, one of which is not working?

Answer»

I'm using Windows XP (SP2) on a AMD Athlon XP1800+ pc. I was using Samsung Combo drive. I bought an LG DVD burner recently. I have made the DVD burner as Secondary MASTER and the combo drive as Secondary SLAVE. Set the jumpers too. Both the drives are detected during booting up of PC(including BIOS). I can see both the drives with their drive letters assigned in "My Computer". The DVD burner is working fine. But when I insert a disc in the Combo drive, it says "insert a disc" and doesn't detect the disc already in it. NERO also shows both the drives, but only the master drive works. I tried changing the Combo drive to Master and the DVD burner to Slave. The master always works but the slave wont. What possibly may have gone wrong? IDE cable? OR any other XP configuration is needed?Replace the IDE cable...

Solve : Hard drive and motherboard problems!!!?

Answer»

Ok first off, I will just say I am completely stupid when it comes to computers...

That being said, my hard drive was making a loud humming sound so I went to unplug it. Well, it was plugged in pretty good and I ENDED up tearing off the part on the motherboard that it plugs into. If I do buy a new hard drive, is there any other place to plug it into? Or do I need to buy a new motherboard too?

Like I said, I am dumb so please don't make FUN of me!!If you removed the IDE port itself (not just the other end of the CABLE, but where the cable plugs in) you may be SOL. Those cannot be repaired.

Some older MB's have two IDE ports, so if you can post your make and model we can advise. If you have two and one is ruined, your options for expansion are severely limited.

You could however buy a PCI/IDE card and run up to 4 devices from it.

So let us know. I don't see that a new motherboard is required at this point. The harddrive is a Seagate Barracuda 7200.8 200GB. How do I find the make and model of the motherboard? It should be printed on the motherboard. I am assuming you cannot run Windows at this point so there is no easy software way to find out.

Do you have a separate cable that is going to the CDROM drive? Or is it on that same cable?if you are skilled with a soldering iron, you could also try soldering the part back on.NO !!!!

There are three other ports next to the one I plug my hard drive into. The one it was in was black, then there's a blue, yellow, and white one. Would I be able to plug it into one of the other ones? One of these is my computer... I'm not at home so I don't remember which one.

If you have two IDE slots, they will be identical in SHAPE and size and probably color, and labeled maybe faintly) IDE1 and IDE2. If you have a floppy, it goes in a different and smaller one. SATA connectors look totally different.

Can you post a closeup picture?Yay I got it working by plugging it into a different one. LAST time I tried I swear it didn't detect it! Anyway, I had to use the recovery disc so I lost my stuff but it's running. It's still making the humming sound, not as loud but it's there.Quote

Solve : Can I find other users on my router??

Answer»

OK, this is gonna sound like I'm a big paranoid freak but......

I'm pretty sure the guy upstairs is using my router. I wrote the key down and it disappeared. Then it came back. Now he never goes to the library and is always on his LAPTOP! I'm more or less 99% he's using it! And not paying me!

So yeah, I just WONDERED if I could find out he was using it?

Anyone wannw play Watson to my Holmes? Thanks! What kind of wireless security do you have? If none, the answer is probably yes.

You can change the broadcast channel, not broadcast the ID, use WPA or WEP, etc. so LET US know the current status.

I guess asking him is out of the question, but usually if you reason enbough to have a good SUSPICION you are right.I'm not entirely sure about the security but I'm almost certain it's WEP.

Basically my friend has the computer with the router and i share it (and th bills).

I just have a feeling he's in on it. I want to change it with the least fuss possible.OK I think I found out how to check.

Now I just need to know if the wired computer will show in the DHCP client list?

Thanks............. You should be able to look in the router settings & see who's connected.

I use this little program to see who's on the line...

Solve : Need help with Wireless Printing?

Answer»

I have a desktop which is directly connected to my printer.
Desktop also HARD wired to LinkSys wireless BROADBAND modem.
Laptop is conneced by wireless connection to broadband modem.

I want to be able to send print jobs to desktop from laptop, so they can be routed to the printer.
I am not sure how to do this.

Dell desktop and laptop. LinkSys wireless.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,
RozzieWhat Windows is installed?Need...more...info...gasp

Assuming (and we all know what that means ) that you're RUNNING XP just share the printer on the desktop / open PRINTERS and faxes on the laptop / Add a printer / do a network search (can the 2 computers already communicate?) point it to the desktop / double-click the desktop / add the printer.

Alan <>< just to be sure......how is the printer wireless to the modem.....can the desktop print wirelessly ( i set up alot of wireless printers)I have XP.

I never said that the printer was hooked to wireless - desktop is hooked to wireless. The two computers can not currently communicate. The two computers do not communicate.

The printer is connected to the desktop.

desktop connected to wireless

laptop connected to wireless by wireless connection

need to establish communication between desktop and wireless

once done, believe I can then share printer :-?wireless is a LinkSys broadband - so laptop can get into internet stated wrong thing

correction, need to establish COMMUINCATION between desktop and laptopShare the printer on one PC and install it as a network printer on the other.

Be certain to enable file and printer sharing.

Voila; you're done.just like do the connection wizard and make a disc....or just right click the printer and hit share
vice versa with filesQuote

Solve : External Hard Drive?

Answer»

I've just purchased an EXTERNAL hard drive for my now 'full' computer. If I move all of the data that is filling the computer hard drive across to the external, i.e. pictures, music etc, will the computer regain some of it's original speed, or will I have to perform any other FUNCTION to get some speed back ?

Thanks in advanceStart with that, then download and run CCleaner (free at ccleaner.com), run a DEFRAG, then we will go from there if the problem persists. WINDOWS needs 15% free druve space for proper function.

When installing Ccleaner, uncheck the Yahoo toolbar. You don't NEED that.

Solve : dvd player won't work?

Answer»

I get a insert disc message when there is a disc in the drive.I have ran all the windows trouble shoot on that drive ,even reinstalled it .Still it won't work.More information needed - what is your OS? Make/model of computer and DVD drive? Past problems? Anything you did before this started happening?I think you're starting to get it, Calum! Quote

I think you're starting to get it, Calum!
Lol
Thanks
It's just common sense Dell dimension 2400 ,windows xp ,bought in 04.Have not used it in a long time .Quistion what detects that a disc is in tray?Could it need cleaned? And if so how do you clean it?The lens may need cleaning, but I'm not sure how to do that
It may require opening up the DVD drive itself, and will probably require opening the computer
Someone else may know whether this is a lens issue and how to fix it, so sit tight
In the meantime, keep working on it
Does this happen with all discs? Can the drive be used at all? Does Device Manager show a problem with the drive? Is there a newer driver available?
If I think of anything else I'll let you knowThere are commerical lens cleaner kits available. Some compressed air may work as well. You may want to open the machine and blow ALL of the dust out. While inside, check to see that the FLAT ribbon cable is firmly inserted.

What error message exactly? Is the drive seen in the BIOS settings? (F2 when you see the Dell LOGO.)

Sometimes drives just fail. So keep that as a possibility. What exactly did you do to troubleshoot?

I used what ever trouble shoot windows provide and it SAID device was working properly. No error message just say insert disc even when one is inserted. Can you read the contents of the disc in Explorer? Can you check properties on it? Try several different disc - Audio, Data, etc.Yes I can check properties on it. I have tried cd's dvd's, ALWAYS get the same message[ insert disc now ]even when one is inserted. It does not seem to detect that there is a disc inserted. The optics usually go LONG before the mechanical PORTION. That is, the drive will open and close, but it will not be able to read.

How old is that drive and has it had a lot of use? As a DVD burner is about $30 it would be relatively inexpensive to replace. I don't suppose it is still under warranty?

Not a burner ,not used much ,3 years old. Will not detect a disc in the tray.I would just replace it, based on the history you gave IF you did allof the things suggested. A lens cleaning kit is about 17 Bucks...add 13 to that and grab a DVD burner.

You would be finished quicker than this thread has been.

Solve : Hardware?

Answer»

My pc froze and now will only boot when it feel's like it. When it does not boot it seems as though there is no power getting anywhere except the lights to say it is on. COULD this be a battrey problem?im ASSUMING absolutley NOTHING turns on (disks dont spin, lights dont blink, etc.). in that case, it might be good to buy a new power supply or test a different power supply on your comp.

to see if your power supply is faulty, take it out of your pc and put it into a different pc (one that you know works correctly). and VISA versa. take the power supply out of the pc you know works correctly and place it in your pc and see if it works.Had a new power supply unit put in a couple of months back. When turned on I can hear the fan and Disk DRIVES but it does not seem to ACTIVATE start up. Just a blank screen and zilch after that.

Thanks for the info thoughWhat is the make and wattage of the power supply you put in? It sounds faulty, but there may be other hardware problems as well. Some info about your machine, age of parts, etc. could be helpful as well, eh?I have a red Toyota.

Solve : onboard sound card, old could, new can't?

Answer»

Hi all,
Older emachine T2385 had an ONBOARD Realtek AC97 sound card. The pc died. Managed to save all files. a friend bought me a new T3504 with onboard Realtek ACL861 ( HD 5.1 )
I have musicmatch and DAK wave mp3 editor that I USED to record streaming radio from " stero mixer " on the old pc, but on the new one. Emachines blew me off. ( T3504 is 6 wks old ) EMAILED Realtek, they SAID the new ACL861 doesn't reconize " stero mixer " I don't need HD 5.1 All I need is 2.1 cd quality. Is this something Emachines would take care of, or maybe on me to buy a cheap PCI sound card ? If anybody has any other ideas, I'm all ears (or eyes). Thanks in advance

A 25 yr old / 64 yr old jammin in the nursing home, Loui assume you have checked in your bio's to activate it, if not, go in and see if onboard sound is rigged in, if it is, disable and restart, then let windows boot, restart and go into the bios and activate it again, SOMETIMES this may be the issue, if it is not activated.... well activate it...

if it still does not work ensure that you have the onboard sound DLL's installed by doing a uninstall of all audio and reinstalling everything with the MB again... it should help...

if not, i would contact the makers of said machine and tell them that you are sending it back, that the on board audio does not work, and that you want a new one with a HardDrive upgrade as a sorry note... I believe you need to grab the latest drivers for that soundcard from Realtek's site and re-install them...

patio. 8-)If previous advice given does not solve the problem and you do not want to or can not return the computer for an exchange, then, yes, a PCI sound card could be a solution for you. And, an inexpensive one would probably be sufficient. Just try to determine before you buy whether it will support the "stero mixer" function you want. I have a PCI card I bought about 2 years ago for about $13 plus shipping. I'm not sure whether it would support the "stero mixer" function, although I'm under the impression it will since I see some settings in the software pertaining to mixer.

Solve : 5.1 channel died / Creative P5800 Inspire?

Answer»

I now seem to have a 4.1 surround set because one of my speaker channels died.

The speakerset has been acting up ever since I got, it will from time to time loose power until I turn it off and on again. Now one of the speaker channels seems to have died.

I doubt there's still warranty on it because it was a sales-bin sort of item.
Any ideas? Should I open up the subwoofer and look inside?

I think I'll buy Logitech next time, I was hoping CREATIVE speakers would go hand in hand with my Creative soundcard. Sjeesh, was I in for a dissapointment..On a side note; the computer now uses the only working rear channel (Whichever speaker I plug in there) and pretends it's both left and right.

Hm, I don't recall having seen any settings for that, but perhaps I'm missing something? The culprit could be the sound card itself.
Re-seat it and re-install the drivers.

patio. 8-)Doubtful, the problem is with the subwoofer. It loses power and apparantly it is also prone to lose channels every now and then.

The channel just started working again! I really like it when PROBLEMS solve THEMSELF. 8-)

What's your opinion on speaker sets, anyway?I have about $6,500.00 invested in my sound system so i don't use the computer much for music.

If i was into GAMING then the priorities might be different.

patio. 8-)I understand you think the sound card is not the problem but, to be absolutely SURE, can you find another computer to test your speakers on?The problem is so sporadic that I'd have to spent several days behind another computer for it to occur again, I think I'll simply buy a wireless speaker set should the problem become more erratic. At least I'll have an excuse to replace a brand new speaker set.

So far I've encountered the following programs, I suspect that the list will grow:

 • Speaker set loses power
 • A spectacular 'Woosj' occasionally pops up and runs through the surround set.
 • A channel died and came back on

Both my CD/DVD DRIVES do not function. (Toshiba ODD-DVD SD-M1802 and Plextor DVDR PX-708A) They have power to them and open and close without any problems. I was making several CDRs and the recording software (roxio) seemed to run slower and slower until it finally stopped.

I NOTICED that the two CD/DVD drives did not show it in My Computer so I WENT to Device manager and noticed that both drivers had yellow checks on them. I deleted both of them from Device manager and did a restart to try to reload drivers but nothing happened when the computer restarted.
I tried Add New Hardware and selected my two drives and I got a message that the drivers were corrupt

At this point I decided I should go to the Toshiba and Plextor web site. The Toshiba did not contain any drivers for my unit and the Plextor web site did not contain any driver either. According to Plextor the drivers not NEEDED because they were part of windows.

I found drivers on this site and when I tried to install them I got a message that the Hardward can not be found.

I am using XP Pro

Thanks

GaryI would try replacing that IDE cable and introduce one drive at a time...

Solve : The Joy Of Burning Video DVD's (arrgh!)?

Answer»

Having recently acquired a TV tuner card for my PC (Dell GX620, P4 HT, 2GB RAM, XP) I have set upon the task of converting my home movies on VHS tape into digital format and attempting to burn them on to DVD's. After two weeks and a dozen attempts, I have exactly one (1) working DVD. I have used two different utilities - Roxio Easy CD Creator 9, and Nero 7. The latter is what I'm using now, and plan to continue using.

The DISCS that have failed have had several different problems. One will not play at all. Another will play on one machine, but not another. Yet another will play for about 15 minutes and then freeze, every time. My latest attempt had my DVD player refusing to play the disc because it thought it was "dirty" but the disc was spotless. In all cases, there was no error message from the software, and all indications are that the burning process WENT off without a hitch.

As I see it, the issue must be with one of the FOLLOWING, in no particular order:

1) Faulty media
2) A bad DVD burner
3) Imperfect technology

Anyone care to weigh in with an opinion on which of these is most likely?

You did USE all the same format of blank DVDS, right?Hi Doofus, ltns, I won't be able to help you I'm only posting this because I'm stalking Comp Guy.
A question... at some point in the process do you finish up with a movie on your HDD and does it work from there?Oh no, you found me again. Better go hide somewhere else.

And Doofus, could you tell exacly where in the process the movies stop working correctly?Fed, the file on the PC works fine. The movie preview feature in both Nero and Rozio also showed no problems.

Comp Guy, all the DVD's I've been using are from the same stack. Hewlett Packard DVD-R. And it's only the finished result on the DVD itself that is failing.

The drive is a Philips SDVD8820.I suspect the burner...
Although i don't rely on them you could try one of those laser cleaning lens CD's...

Solve : computer monitor stays black?

i have an HP pavilion 7030

i hardly ever use this computer, but a couple of days ago i TRIED turning it on, but the monitor would just stay blank. thinking it was the monitor, i jus hooked it up tO a different one but the exact same thing happened. any ideas? thanksTry to the third cpu that have a good monitor, it that monitor stay BLACK check the pin
at the cable that connect to the back of CPU, if any bend pin, you should change the cable with new one. if it's okay, i can only suggest the monitor need to be fixed at computer service.well, i dont think its the monitor because the second monitor i tried works perfectly fine. with any other comp.if you connect the monitor to other cpu and it's just fine, then i agree with you that the monitor is ok.

When you start the computer and you see the CPU and HDD light is working for several time maybe 1-2 minuters then i believe the computer is loading windows/OS.

So the problem maybe the video card, try to change the video card with ANOTHER one that you know really working.Quote from: donnysam link=topic=42752.msg267620#msg267620

Solve : lcd monitor?

Answer»

i am trying to set um a new samsung lcd monitor to my computer but i KEEP geetting a message about optimum setting. I am un able to change the mz on my computer. It says the video card is generic. should i try to load the software driver BEFORE i connect the monitor? What is the exact message you get? And what is the actual problem? Does the monitor work or not?
Also, most monitors do not need a driver to workthe monitor work for about i minute then goes blank. there is a message that says not optimum performance then gives resolution numbers (i already fixed that part) and 60mz. i think that that is the part that i need to fix. the monitor works fine on my other computer which is not even as good as the one i want to put it on.That Vid card might not be CURRENT enough to SUPPORT that monitor...

How old is it ? ?the computer is 4 years old. it is a sony and it was a really good one when i bought it.Do you mean 60Hz, rather than 60mz?
To change refresh rate go into control panel, display, settings, advanced, then the monitor tab and change the screen refresh rate to 60Hzi cant change it it says use hardware default setting
Do you know what video card you have?no it just says generic video cardSounds like you don't have the drivers installed for your video card....do you know what video card you should have?
If so, download the drivers for it
If not, download Everest Home Edition from here - http://cgi.zdnet.de/c/?s=32&t=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.zdnet.de%2Fdownloads%2Fprg%2F1%2Fx%2Fde011X_is-wc.html - and post a report from it HEREI know im dumb but i made a report but i cant figure out how to post it here. it says invalid file format. anyway the report says the video adapter and the 3d accelerator are both SiS315 Integrated does this help?Quote

i know im dumb but i made a report but i cant figure out how to post it here. it says invalid file format.
You're not dumb (well, no dumber than me), I had the same problem at first
Try zipping the report before posting it, only certain file types are accepted, including zip files, and zipping a file is easy to do

This does help, but post the report anyway
Drivers should be available from the SiS site, but I know I've had problems in the past trying to get drivers from them
I'll post the link in a bit if I can find itGraphics cards. Perhaps I can be of some better use. I remmember a little abt the SiS 315.

This is ur card - http://www.gpureview.com/show_cards.php?card1=433&card2=

It has 32MB VRAM but uses up to 128MB of ur system RAM, even though it is on a discrete AGP x4 slot.

Solve : Sony VAIO Illiciting Loud Alarm (from inside Comp)?

Answer»

Hello, I bought a Sony VAIO PCV-V300G about a year ago. I've contacted Sony Support a whopping seven times over the past five months. During that time, almost everyday, my computer has illicited a loud, persistent alarm -- an alarm that doesn't come through the speakers, but rather from inside the computer. Sony never seems to understand my problem and has suggested performing a system restore, UNINSTALLING and reinstalling all recently-added hardware, etc. I've done these things, but they haven't worked.

My computer runs on XP, with 480MB RAM, a 13g hard-drive, and a 167g hard-drive. The alarm seems to happen when a lot of things are going on (for instance, listening to music and surfing the net), but then again.. sometimes it occurs when my computer is idle.

Sony is now asking that I request a repair (at a cost of $314). I could buy another computer for that much. Is there anyway to disable this f*cking alarm so I don't throw my computer out the WINDOW? Please help, if you can. I will really, really truly appreciate it.

If you need more information, just ask. Thanks. /dNeed...more...info...gasp

What does the alarm sound like? bell / beep / screech

Checked your fans to make sure they're all up and running?

Alan <>< The alarm is there for a reason, I think your computer is overheating. Is it a laptop or a desktop?Sorry, I'm kinda new to this. :-?. Ok, it's a Sony Vaio desktop. The alarm sounds like a .. some kind of security system siren or a police siren. I have long thought it might be overheating because sometimes when restarting, I would be directed to BIOS where the CPU temperature was marked in red. I asked Sony about this, but they didn't really seem to want to touch on it.. instead directing me to mostly benign articles about resetting BIOS, etc. My fans seem to be working okay; i.e., I can hear them and feel the air coming out. But a lot of times, the back of the computer is very hot. (VAIOs, in case you don't KNOW, really consist of a monitor, with the entire computer packaged behind it.)

If it is a problem with overheating, what can I do to fix it? And thanks a lot for helping out.

[also, this might help. I bought a game last night (Sim City 4 - it was cheap and I was bored). Should be a simple game to run right ? But, without fail, about five minutes into the game, the alarm comes on. And I have to shut down the computer, and not restart until I'm pretty sure the THREAT OF SIREN is gone. really frustrating.]Quote

I would be directed to BIOS where the CPU temperature was marked in red.

There you go.

What temperatures are shown in the BIOS?

Are all the fans operating? Are all heatsinks firmly attached?

Have you removed all the dust from fans and heatsinks?

Quote
But a lot of times, the back of the computer is very hot.

What would that be? The Power Supply Unit?
Yes, it's hottest on the botton left side, where the power supply is.

The last time I was alerted to the temperature in BIOS was at least a couple of weeks ago.. I seem to remember 64 C maybe? I will try to check it again. Thanks, RaptorHot air coming from the PSU is quite common, but have you inspected all the heatsinks and fans yet? Are they very dusty?I haven't.. because I'm not really sure how to. Vaios seem intimidating to open up, but I guess I will try. I just to need make sure there's no dust.. and that all the connections are good?Yes, you need not remove anything until we've determined the problem.

Gently shake the heatsinks to see if they are properly attached; don't use too much force, though.Everything seemed properly attached but there was A LOT of dust. I cleaned it with an air duster and I'm about to start the game.. see what happens. That's a good test for the alarm. Thanks again, Raptor.\

Raptor - I LOVE you!!!! Wow, I feel really stupid. it's been dust this whole time. I just sat through the game for a few minutes.. No Alarm. I'm '*censored*' amazed, and incredibly grateful. Thanks !No problem, you'd be surprised how many problems can be prevented by cleaning the case every 2-3 months.

Come back anytime.

Solve : Installing New HD- During Format-BSOD?

Answer»

I have a 1.1GHz PC w/256Meg RAM, Phoenix Award BIOS. Though working, I need a bigger HD. I bought a 160GB EIDE at Best BUY yesterday. I have WINDOWS 2000 Pro and a XP Home upgrade. I installed the new HD as the only drive. I boot up with the XP disk ... at a point, it askes me to put in my earlier version Windows. I take out the XP disk and put in the Win2K disk. Enter. It takes me to a screen that says to install XP, press Enter. The Win 2K disk was still in. I swapped the disks. I don't remember what happened (been through too much before I found this apparent great site. I decided to just start over and install Win 2K and when it was up and running, I'd do the XP upgrade thing. I got to the disk being formatted. It was AROUND 30% done when I got the BSOD. Kmode ... something. I tried about 4 times to format this thing. Each time it did the same thing only at different percents ... once, 70 something percent.

I decided the drive was bad and took it back today. They had no more and gave me a 320GB EIDE for no extra cost. I thought that was very cool. I came home, installed the drive, put in Win2K disk, booted, followed on screen info ........ got to format. Cool. For about 55%. Then, same thing.

The old drive, that still works but is old (4-5 years? Came with puter) is a 80GB.

I'm wondering, since I looked up some stuff online, if there is an issue with compatibility? I discovered online that ATA-1 came out in late 1994 and I think ATA-2, also known as EIDE, came out in .... I think 1997. Since this computer was new around 2001 or 2, I am assuming the chip on the motherboard that says ATA REALLY is ATA-2?

Help?

Thanks, LarryThe best way is to install the new HD as a second drive, using the HD manufacturers software. After thisHD is partitioned and formatted (or even before, in some cases) it will ask you if you want to use the new HD as your boot (or Primary) drive, or just use it as extra storage, click which one you want and the software should do the rest.
DavySure would be helpful to see more than "kmode ... something" as an error message.

PENCIL and paper?

Camera?

Those BSOD messages are there to be read!

It would also be helpful to have some details about the computer. Instead of "a 1.1 GHz processor and a Phoenix BIOS" how about the actual computer or motherboard make and model. Do these versions of WIndows have Service Pack 2 integrated? I doubt it. How did you partition these large drives during setup?

Solve : e sata connection?

Answer»

I have a seagate Freeagent DRIVE and the usb connection is intermittent, so I want do connect it via e sata directly to the motherboard sata port. I have a cable, and have connected it but windows doesnt see it. Whats wrong? You need to install the SATA drivers for your MBoard for it to see the drive...
What MBoard is this ? ?Hi, Thanks
Its a Foxconn NF4SK8AA, Socket 939. I already have a sata drive connected as my C drive, so I expected that the ports would be "live"
I dont know anything about e sata, and even the internet is quite vague about the set up. I took it that it would be a straight P&P device (The Seagate Freeagent) whether it was USB or E Sata.
I would much prefer the Sata set up, if its only drivers.
Thanks Again
DavyEach SATA drive will need drivers installed...grab them from the manuf. site. The M/Board Manufacturer or the drive manufacturer?
ThanksI tend to use the drive manuf. drivers...

I just re-read your original post though ...how are you hooking this up SINCE it's a USB drive ? ?|Its a USB E Sata drive, there are both types of input, It worked ok as a USB2 drive for about 4 MONTHS, then started to lose contact with the PC, with an error message "Delayed Write to H/ cannot write $mft to drive H:" So, rather than return it, (where do I put the files?), I tried the E Sata approach. I bought a E Sata to Sata cable, and hoped it would be plug and PLAY, as the USB was, Alas, alack, it wasnt so. Seagate doesnt seem to have any drivers on there site, and there was no CD or cable included in the box.
The internet is very short on e sata INFORMATION, It tells you speeds, ect, but little more, so I thought it must be Plug & Play.
DavyVisit your MBoard manuf. site...

We don't know what you're looking for or what you are PLANNING to do with it. The purpose and your budget wil be the basis for any recommendation. That's a big heavy machine. Are you planning on being a gamer? Thats not such a good laptop.

The graphics card is only a low-end 7300 GT OC and the CPU is the lowest of the Mobile Core 2 Duo family @ 1.6Ghz and i doubt U can overclcok aswell as on a desktop PC.

RAM and HDD are great though, but the overall PRICE isnt worth it anyway.

Laptops are very expensive in any case, and if ur looking for gaming (wich i assume u are, otherwise u wouldnt waste buying 2GB of DDR2-667 RAM and a Core 2 Duo) ur going to have to spend quite a lot.I don't think you can overclock an HP anyway due to the BIOS, and certainly not a laptop. However, I don't see anything to imply he would even know what that means.

Solve : Problem with Video Card I think????

Answer»

When I am playing any video game on my computer, QUITE often my screen goes wierd and their are dotted lines running down my screen and it gets very pixled, and weird colored, I think this may be a problem with my video card. What can I do to FIX this

ThanksI'm not a gamer and probably can't give a specific ANSWER. But, more info would probably be helpful for anyone who MIGHT have specific ADVICE. What game is it? What video card do you have? Does the game allow you to specify certain video settings relating to video quality? Your OS? Other hard hardware specs, such as processor and RAM? Has this problem always occurred with this game? Do you play any other games? Do they work OK?Videocard is overheating. Make the fan dust free.Does sound like a fan problem. If ur card is overheating it may already be too late to help it but ur going to have to buy a 20$ fan and replace the one u already have.
