Does anyone REMEMBER a software program called "Tabworks" by Xerox. I loved the graphical interface for creating projects. I still have the program but it does not get along with XP. If there is a newer version or something like it out there I WOULD like to know about it. I use Paperport, but it isn't even close to the 3 ring binder interface. Any help. [emailprotected]

I have Windows XP SP2 , when I open WMV & MPEG files I only GET the sound no VIDEO. It doesn't matter what program I use. I have Windows Media Player 11 and Nero SHOWTIME. I am a novice at a computer so please could you keep answers very simple.

As the title says, Windows MEDIA Player won't LET me change the names of SONGS. The error code I get is C00D0FDD which says that my metadata is stale and my clocks time and date is wrong.

But they're not

CheersTry to SET your clock to some "wrong" date, and time, restart computer, set it correctly again, restart computer.

I have just replaced my Epson printer with an HP All-In-One Printer-Fax-Copier-Scanner.

Now, when I come to print a Word 97 document, I have lost the window that opens before printing allowing the selection of which PART of the document to print. Instead, a FAULT occurs and Word 97 has to close. The problem seems confined to Word 97.

I have tried re-installing Word 97, but to no avail.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.It's OK, I've solved it. It was a compatability problem. Once I set it to Windows 98 my printing selection window opened.Hello all

I’m sorry, but I spoke too soon and have not resolved the problem.

I'm running XP and as far as I can remember before changing my printer, I had to set compatibility to Windows 98 for Word 97 to work. After changing the printer I think the compatibility was removed - perhaps by the HP software? I set the compatibility back to Windows 98 and the window that opens before printing to allow which part of the document to print has now returned.

However, having made that CHOICE, and selected print, the HP AIO doesn't print, but hangs up. When I check the print queue, the document is spooling continuously, whatever that means.

Before I noticed this compatibility issue, when I clicked on print I did get an error message something like "The instruction at 0x7c9188 REFERENCED memory at 0x000000. The memory could not be written"

I'm wondering whether the HP software will not operate in XP with a programme that has to be set to Windows 98 compatibility.
This time I have fixed it. Thanks to the suggestion of a forum senior moderator it was just a matter of reinstalling the HP AIO software.

The COMPUTER is a Pentium 4, 256 ram, windows xp pro. When we got the computer is was on it. I don't want it any more because i have norton. Also ever time i go to get on the computer an message popped up. saying "Could not itnalize AVG anti-virus kernel interface. Application cannot run." I went to delete Thu control panel and this popped and it won't delete.

I deleted this file from my computer not thinking it was important. My recycle bin shows that it needs to be emptied but when you open it there is nothing there. I am putting together a column CHART in Excel '02 and want to add a goal line (not a trendline) ACROSS the top of 95%. So FAR, the closest I've been ABLE to come with is to chart 2 series of data (one being goal 95%)then change the goal series to a line graph inside the column chart but this is really not what I'm looking for. i have win xp ,intel 2.4ghz,40gb hdd 128ram, can i USE my sonyhandy cam as webcam Check the manual - some cameras can be used as a webcam, most cannot.My Fujifilm digital CAMERA will do that but I don't see it as very practical for extended webcam use due to battery drain on the camera. I believe my Handycam can be used as a webcam, so yours might also be able to. However, we don't know the model number, so we can't give a definite answer. But like soybean says, it's not really a practical solution. I would suggest buying an ACTUAL webcam, which are pretty CHEAP these days. You shouldn't have to pay more than $20, unless you want more features.

I'm hoping someone can help me.

Yesterday I bought a Norton Antivirus programme from their website and downloaded it. After having some difficulty installing the basics already, I have now run into a new problem:

To finish the installation, Norton Antivirus wants me to 'Continue' and it says it is 'initializing the configuration wizard'

I left my computer on for 2 hours and it still showed the same message: the wizard never showed up. It says it should take a minute or so, but it's really not working.

Any help here would be hot (Y)

So I said ' Fix ' but it doesn't DO anything. I went to Advanced Settings and ticked the 'TS'-box there, but when I press OK, it doesn't CHANGE anything. It's just as if the whole button isn't working =[Specifically...what Norton program did you download and install?

Try uninstalling your Norton product and reinstalling it...making sure no other programs are running in the background...including your firewal, if you have one installed.

If you cannot get the program installed...you may want to contact Symantec for support. If they can't help...SEE if you can't get your money back and download and install a free antivirus program like AVG.

when i OPEN the "add or remove program" from the control panel , then there appears a huge blank space in between the list. a few progrmas in the beginning (3 or 4) and the a huge blank space is followed by the REST of the programs. can anyone what is this?? or what is causing this??

Is there a way to set up SOMETHING where Microsoft Outlook will let you know which messages received a REPLY and which didn't. I would like to do this for either specific messages or all messages.
I send emails out to vendors and sometimes will forget about ONE or two and get messed up when they don't reply. Read receipts don't really help.
If anyone has a suggestion I would greatly appreciate it.

I'm familiar with Outlook 2003 and I don't know of a way to do this, but I'm not ABSOLUTELY sure about it. I did review the email SETTINGS and did not find any setting to accomplish this.

I don't know whether you'd consider using Outlook Express. I would normally not suggest it over Outlook, but it has a feature which will do what you want. In OE, under View, selecting Group Messages by Conversation accomplishes what you want to do.

This one is quite a bugger. Whenever I am running a program in fullscreen, every few minutes (sometimes 50 seconds or so) the program likes to minimize to the desktop. No popups, no new windows, merely my desktop with my program minimized. I am not press alt+tab or the windows key or alt+f4. Here's my HJT log.... Have you also run the AV & AS programs in Safe Mode?

Alan <&GT;< I have no idea what remdoc.exe is, so I shut that down. And I don't quite know if the programs have a safe mode. I'm PRETTY sure these programs aren't causing the program, as I've had them well before the problem occured.

I'm having trouble with WINAMP. The problems just recently started, and before I go on, REINSTALLING DOES NOT FIX IT.

Basically, when I choose to play something in Winamp, the winamp icon appears in the task tray in the lower righthand corner of the monitor, but nothing happens, and nothing plays. So I thought that maybe there was some winamp setting that GOT changed around. So when I brought my mouse over to the winamp icon on the task tray to click on it, so I can open the options MENU and see if something had changed, the icon disappeared.

Every time Winamp is opened, the icon appears in the corner, but when the mouse pointer touches the icon, it goes away. And it's not like it's with the "hidden" icons, where I can click the arrow and show it. When the mouse goes over it, the PROGRAM is closed and no longer there. And, like I said before, NOTHING HAPPENS when I try to play a song.

I have the latest version of winamp, and my computer's updates are all, well, up to date.

Please help!

No I did not lie. That was for my computer which has to bad of everything to play online games (like a upgraded 98 to ME). It was running so slow one day that I decided to just delete the FILES without uninstalling it properly which ended up causing it to always stay on the add/remove list. And if it was for the same computer I wouldn't had made 2 threads. I would have just put in in one.
But I'm talking about this for not mine but my parents computer (as patio said) because its like the only one I can play it on, if I don't get caught. And they already said no so, I guess I can forget about it.Even though it's not what you want to do respecting your parent's wishes is the RIGHT choice and you should feel good about your decision.

I respect that.Sorry, didn't mean to accuse you of anything. Like patio says, it's best to respect their wishes. If SOMEONE did something on your computer that you didn't approve of, I'm sure you wouldn't be too happy. Until you get a better setup for yourself, your best bet may be to talk with your parents try to get them to understand what the game is about. Might not work, but it's better than hiding something from them.

I have WRITTEN a number of Visual BASIC programs which I find very useful, and have subsequently made these programs .exe files. I pinned these programs to my start menu, but one of them wasn't displaying the usual Visual Basic icon. Stupidly, I right-clicked on it and was somehow given the OPTION to 'open with....'. I clicked on this and then CHOSE visual basic from the menu, clicked apply, then OK. Now I find that every single application tries to open with visual basic, which obviously cannot load these applications. Nor can I use system restore, because that also tries to open with visual basic. Any suggestions?You can just try to right click it and change it back to the prog it belongs to.
If this doesn't work than you can go to EXPLORER -> Tools -> Folder options -> File types and look for exe there you can change it.

I have just installed a new printer on my computer, it is a Canon Pixma iP2000. Most of the packages and the printer itself have installed fine. The only problem I have had is installing the Canon PhotoRecord application.

When I try to install, I get the following error message:

I have looked in the user manual and have looked on the Canon website for HELP but none of their TROUBLESHOOTING sections mention anything like this. I was trying to install some Digital Photo Album FREEWARE yesterday and I got a similar message.

My computer specifications are also up to what is required for the installation of all the applications and drivers so I'm a bit mystified.

As always any help would be greatly appreciated.

Question , did you remember to turn off your anti- virus before attempting to install the "PhotoRecord" application ?

If you didnt do this , I would uninstall everything, turn off your AV and do a complete reinstall of the printer.

Up until now I've been using WINDOWS One CARE (got if for $20 bucks for a year, after using the beta edition) but now that my year is up I'm thinking about switching. I've done a bit of searching on GOOGLE and whatnot but I'm not finding anything that screams "I'm the best! You're PC will be safe with me!" Ok, kinda dumb but you get what I mean. Since most run $50+ and is something I'll be stuck with for at least a year, I want to be sure I'm happy with it. Right now I'm running a free trial of ZoneAlarm and I like it pretty well (especially the price) but my only gripe is the VIRUS scan takes oooh sooo long. If you don't mind paying, I recommend Kapersky Internet Security.

My PC has been shutting itself off at random for a while now, mostly when running programs/games. I decided to reinstall windows in an attempt to rid the problem but the PC keeps shutting down during the reinstall.
How can I stop this from happening, even if just 'til the installation finishes?

and does anyone have any good reasons as to why this might be happening? I've heard dust and fan issues might be responsible but I see no problem with either - I cleared the dust a few weeks ago and there wasn't that much there anyway.What OS do you have? you say windows but there are a few OS's of windows.

If I was you I should Dload and run Ccleaner first.
run it on the Issue part.

The way that you are trying to reinstall XP isn't the way how you are suppose to do it.
You are supposed to wipe all data including windows files and apps.
Therefor you 'll need a porg that's able to do that.(I don't know anything about that.)

Before reinstalling try this: (Be sure to have the CD, but that's no porb I guess)
-Start -> run -> type "CHKSDK"
then reboot and

-start -> run -> type "SFC /SCANONCE"
reboot

Did you already tried System restore?
Start -> All programs -> Accessories -> system tools -> system restore
Go to a restoring point just before you tried reinstalling Windows

about that possibility of a virus you might try Windows OneCare Live it has a 90 day trial so that won't be any problem to scan. (As far as I have tried protection this came out the best)

Just recently my computer was corrupted and I had to send it out to the geek squad at best buy. They used a RECOVERY disc to rejuvinate my computer. During this process they backed up "my PHOTOS" and "my documents". When I downloaded " my documents " the text COMES up scrambled and not in the format I originally used to write them. I have windows xp and I used microsoft works to write the text for all of my documents. The backed up files are on a cd-rom and I can download the documents, I just can't read them. There are a LOT of precious documents I want to save. If you can help, I would appreciate it. Thank you, Rob rlokoff ....... What format did the Geek Squad use when they backed up your IMPORTANT files ?

I'm an animator (2d and trying to learn 3d but my computer is crap), and moolt.com says I should trace trailers and other thing's.
So a wanted to know if there is any way of saving url's because most trailer's are on window's media play (for example) but not to download(like with TV.com. I know how to get the url but not how to save the file it's self.

I am having problems uninstalling from the Add/Remove Programs. I get this error message, then fatal error. Adobe Acrobat 8.0 is showing 151 MB, and I have deleted the files manually. When I google this error code, I cannot find anywhere that this code comes up with updater.api-NON-OPT.

I had trouble removing Paper Port 9.0 before and the error message came up as msi SCRIPT too old or something like that. I used the DISK to repair it, but it still is not CORRECT. I need to take it off because any disk I put in to install something, it tries to install Paper Port.

Also I put on Advanced Installer by mistake and I get the same message as Adobe above when I try to remove it.

I have on my PC #.Adobe photoshop elements 4.0 ,#My pictures in my documents,
#.HP photosmart premier.
By the wrong click, i DOWNLOADED some pictures in HP photosmart premier.
I don't want to use HP photosmart premier at all.
The trouble is everytime i delete a picture in HP, the picture in my doc.my picture is
also deleted.
But not in Adobe, there when i click on the picture to have it full sreen, it go to searching for "missing file".
If the picture was saved in the vault of HP, then i will be ABLE to reconnect it.
If the picture was not saved in the vault of HP, then i can't reconnect it in Adobe and
will never be able to view the picture full sreen.
Adobe want me to delete the picture, so it will be lost for ever.
I don't want to use HP, not to keep on my PC.
But before i delete the program i would like to know how to delete the pictures from
HP without any trouble in My doc..picture and Adobe.
I have been looking everywhere for week now to find the solution, but i am going nowhere.

Have you looked in the folder where HP Photosmart SAVES those images, copy and PASTE them to another location, then delete the program?

You'll also have to point to the new location for your Word doc.'s to see them.

Hello, I have a problem with my taskbar on Windows XP. Whenever I turn on the computer, the taskbar looks like it is in hiding MODE and I cannot scroll it back into normal position without having the Quick Launch feature on or the Language Bar feature on. The Hide Taskbar function is not active. When I do enable the Quick Launch feature, I cannot see the tabs for my programs that are running on the bar ( like the internet explorer tab ).

I also cannot reduce the Quick Launch area ( I cannot reduce it to only three icons ).

This might show us changes made to the registry that COULD be affecting your taskbar. It's not guaranteed, but it's worth a shot. Keep in mind that it will take a few posts to fit the whole log.
