how to i get PID of a PARTICULAR executable file from multiple running application thru batch file and kill the process on basis of PID? Plsss tell me the Program that what should i write coz i'm a beginner....!!

I know svchost.exe is a vital system process but do I need so many of them running at the same time. I have 5 FILES by that name running in the Task Manager but they all have different Memory Usage RANGING from 44K to 17,872K. Hello, we have the need to sync. Outlook between three devices. Here is my situation; an admin. PERSON sets the “Calendar” appointments and maintains the “Contacts” within MS Outlook. I am either in an appointment or I am traveling. The software(s) (and/or web service) that I need must have the capacity to sync my Windows based cell phone and my laptop (Windows XP Pro.). Currently we subscribe to a web service that this is all done on line. The problem is that the service is slow and cumbersome. If I were to MAKE a call from my cell and need a phone number, I would need to log-on to the web service’s software and SEARCH for the number VIA their software. You can imagine how slow this is. If we had the capacity to sync within software common software (MS Outlook) the world would be perfect.

Does it say the CD is required to uninstall it?

TRY downloading CCleaner (install without Yahoo! toolbar) and configure it according to this guide. Use it to clean out your Temp files. Then click on the Tools button and try uninstalling your program from there.i do have ccleaner, to no avail. and no i shouldnt need the cd to uninstall, but it was an option i tried. still cant remove it. its philips cam and software. i contacted philipps and were of no help. thanks for your response though. underdogYou can also try traveling to Device Manager and make sure it is removed from there as well.
Another option is trying to uninstall in safemode
If it still doesnt work this way you may need to re-install the software temporarily and use it's own un-installer.

My GIRLFRIEND bought a NEW Logitech mouse yesterday and I installed it and the software that came with it. Now the computer keeps booting on and off. I've tried to delete the software, but I cannot get into the control panel. She is using WINDOWS XP on a Gateway PC. HELP! Does it get past loading windows before it crashes?
It sounds like the computer might be overheating. Try booting into safe mode by pressing F8 while the computer is just starting to load. If you can get into safe mode just fine and your computer doesn't reboot, you can then delete the software here. If your computer is still crashing in safe mode, it is most likely a overheating problem.

Everytime i start up i get a message from acer saying Thankyou for choosing there product. This is a big message in the centre of the screen which cant be removed! I cant use any other applications as its in the way. I have windows vista, it is a brand new acer 3690. I think posting email addresses is against the rules here. I strongly advise you to call Acer's help line, since this is a new laptop. If you monkey around with it you could make big problems for yourself. Contact the dealer and then Acer.

Does anyone know how to set up automatic spell check on my computer? I had MANAGED to set it up before without installing any additional software and it seems to have disappeared. I know firefox has a built in checker however I had my computer set up to check AIM, notepad, email, etc as well. Basically the spell checker checked everything I typed in my computer.

Does anyone know how to GET this back? I have no idea how I did it originally and I have no idea how I turned that FUNCTION off.

Well, if you had spell check in Notepad, then you must have installed some third-party spell check software. Spell check in Outlook Express is normally obtained as a result of having MS Office installed or the MS Works SUITE, which includes Word; in other words, spell check in Outlook Express comes from Word being installed. Do you have MS Office or Works Suite installed?

Again, to get spell check in AIM, Notepad, and basically any application in which you type text, you must have installed some third-party spell check software. I don't know how someone can not know what they had installed to give them this functionality. Anyway, if you don't have a CD or downloaded file from which to reinstall that third-party spell check software, you'll have to acquire it. I see no other conclusion to be drawn here.

What does it mean when you have a blank line ITEM in your start up LIST. There is a check BOX that is checked but the item and command are blank. It could mean that a trojan has been planted. Uncheck it and reboot and see (1) if anything odd happens (2) if it comes back.
I unchecked the box on the blank line and rebooted. Everything seems to be working fine and the blank line now shows up at the bottom of the list in the non-active items.
The LOCATION shows up as UKCU/software/microsoft/windows/currentversion/run. Isn't that a registry location and should it be deleted?It's a registry location which contains a list of startup tasks. Some of these you want, some you possibly don't. When you unchecked the box, you disabled that item. It would not be a good idea to simply delete that whole part of the registry.



I wasn't talking about deleteing the whole section only the blank line if I could FIND it. I don't know that much about editing the reg so I would never attempt to do that anyway. 2.utorrent opens
3.protowall opens because utorrent opened
4.the torrent is finished DOWNLOADING. utorrent closes
5.protowall closes becasue utorrent closed

this MIGHT help, utorrent has a function to execute any file when the torrent is done. so i was thinking a killprocess command batch

is kill process the same as HITTING the x?
if it is what i think it is, it would send utorrent into an error

prior to this I had a problem with my fan which has been fixed now, and a few not so dangerous viruses which seem to be gone now. Another thing I should have MENTIONED is that some, not all, of my stored videos that worked with Windows Media player have stopped working now too, while they do work with other VIDEO types - most notably real player and Creative Media Source player.

When I try run those vids that did work with Windows Media player now, I get an error message saying Direct Draw is not installed. But it is installed. I tried reinstalling DX9 from one of my game CDs and I was told it was already installed. I never go near any of that stuff so I don't believe I've MADE any changes to it either.anyone?I think the problem is with Media Player itself...to verify this DLoad and install VLC media player which is free and plays nearly anything.
This will tell us if WMP is INDEED the culprit.
If VLC doesn't play them then the files are corrupted.

I occasionally have a chance to move LARGE numbers of files and folders from one dirve to ANOTHER using both 2k3sp2 and XP pro sp2. Both of these systems, when using the Move utility will start and run for as long as I'm watching. About the same time I decide that I'm not going to stare at the monitor for the next 4 hours whatching folders flip by and leave, everything stops and a window pops up stating "The following file "thumbs.sys" is a system file. Are you sure you want to move this file?" When I RETURN 4 hours later expecting all the files to have moved only to find that without an answer nothing else got done. I answer to the afermative and DEPART again only to have it stop and quiry "The following file is Read Only, "whatever.xxx." Are you sure you want to move it?" Once again I answer yes, take off for the rest of the day, come back tomorrow and have been again asked "The following file has an R in its name "R.txt." Are you sure you want to move it?"

My question is - How do I make it so my systems are smart enough to know that I'll occasionally hit the "Delete" key accidently and have it ask "Are you sure" but when I'm moving 60 gigs of files don't stop in the middle and ask "This one, too?"

Acceptable woud be to have it save all the stupid questions until the end. Move every thing there is not question about, then ask about those last four or five files at the very end.

How do I make that happen without having to resort to Robocopy every time I want to move something?Is there a "Yes to all" option when moving files? IF so...you may want to use it...but you probably KNEW that already.Maybe you should check out the XCopy command.
Moving system files around can create havoc...but i agree with Contrex. If you must do this then use XCopy.

Well as most of you know, I'm quite the gamer. (and PS to patio and anyone else that knows of my other posts: I got my own pc to game on ^_^) One new game I found sometimes messes up. And the UPDATES (patches) take so long to download and install but mainly download (game: 9draons). And I've looked up downloads for the patches but there is none to be found. EVEN by the game website.
So while I was redownloading the patches because it MESSED up, I noticed the patches are stored as files in the game's folder. But these files are only there temporarily. They just magically disappear =P. So I was thinking it's probably just hidden like a system file you can't access.
So is there anyway I can access these files and copy them? Like make a backup so I can replace them at anytime when it messes up? I've already backed up all the files I can see but I don't know how to get those files. Please help me someone.Save the patches to your hard DRIVE.How would I do that? Also check the game website for a help forum or FAQs which may have specific answers for your problem.As I've said, there is no patches you can just download from there, you have to download them through the client which I already explained. I've even tried searching google for patches. Does anyone have a suggestion that I can do based on what I've already said? Generally when you download the patches for games you're not asked if you want to install it later. That would allow you to store and share the file with someone else who did not have to connect to the website to get it. "I need this patch" "I have it" is probably a lot faster than "go to the website".

Try this - NEXT time your downloading a game patch or an update when it asks if it's all right to begin installation - before you say yes, go to "C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Local Settings\Application Data".

There you should find a folder from the company your downloading from. Inside that folder is your update. Copy it to somewhere else, then allow it to install. After installation - most often - that file will self delete from your application data folder. The one you copied somewhere else can be used again and again.

Ok I cannot get WMVs to play correctly. The video is fine but the audio is all SCREWY. It sounds metalic sortof is the best way to describe it. It only happens on WMV files. All other file types work fine. Ive tried REPLACING adobe flash, media player, my codecs (CCCP), Ive also gone into REGEDIT and switched some things in there that I found on ANOTHER site and they still wont work. DOes ANYONE know how to fix this?

If you're using Windows Media Player to listen to these files...what VERSION?

I have Microsoft Word 2002. Under Tools it includes a command for "Track Changes" and other related tools, none of which I understand or have ever tried to use. Word and I are not close friends.

I'm now stuck with two versions of the same City of Berkeley ordinance, the original and a complete substitution that is really a set of hidden amendments.

Due to factors beyond my control, it appears that nobody ever bothered to identify exactly how the original ordinance was amended by the newer version. I've been told such a comparison is impossible, which I do not believe is true.

As a first choice, I wish to have Word 2002 compare both versions, section by section, identifying the hidden amendments in the substitute measure using the standard legislative format of underline and strikeout.

If what I want to produce is within the capabilities of Word 2002, could someone please tell me exactly how I GO about achieving my goal.

Should Word 2002 not be up to this task, any leads involving other word processing programs would be greatly appreciated.

I will do my best to have city hall prepare the underline and strikeout format once I know which program, other than Word 2002, will be able to make the comparison I desire in appropriate legislative format.

In case Word 2002 can do this job, then I need to be educated by one of the experts out there about how to properly use word processing capabilities I'm not competent to operate on my own.

I'm horribly clumsy with word processing, but Word 2002 appears to have the right commands to do this, once I can get both versions into Word.

Currently one version of the document I need for comparison is in PDF format. According to Google, Adobe Reader 8 seems to contain the only instructions for how to achieve copy and paste, involving a black cursor, the "Select Tool", which shows up, checked, as part of a small screen produced by a right click on the text.

I try to use the Select Tool, but it fails to appear on the text itself, preventing me from selecting any text for copying. I'm doing something wrong, but have no idea what approach forces the Select Tool to let me copy and paste.

I hope it would not be too much asking for your help on solving this PDF Adobe Reader 8 problem. Here's the specific knowledgebase article for Word 2002:

If so, you can save the entire PDF document to a text file, which you could then open in Word. Adobe Reader 8 appears not to contain helpful features that might have allowed copying of the entire text all at once. It had to be page by page. But I am making progress, and will be trying the compare documents function in Word 2002 sometime day.I'm using Reader 7 but surely version 8 also has the Save As Text option. What do you see if you click on File? What choices? Any Save As options?

Whether I was stupid in switching to Adobe Reader 8 is no longer relevant to my current situation. Adobe Reader 8 seems to lacks commands and options available on its predecessors. Of course I never MASTERED any control of PDF documents until today, when going page by page, I have produced the two versions I need to compare in Word.

From my perspective, the next challenge is going to be using the Word 2002 comparison features that ought to produce these amendments in underline and strikeout format for the first time ever, thanks to the directions you were kind enough to provide.

If it works at all I will be astonished. There is a chart in the amended version that I could not duplicate from PDF to Word using copy and paste. The chart is absolutely a 100% amendment. In case you know how such a chart full of lines and boxes containing text can be transferred from PDF to Word 2002, please reveal the secret to me.

Other than the chart, which is hopeless right now, I may be able to produce a comparison in Word that identifies the amendments decently enough for today. Then again, even with the instructions you sent me, I could still mess it all up. In that case, I'm not reluctant to ask for additional help when trying to tame Word into doing anything I want.

So, assuming you are following this thread, please stay tuned for further developments. I appreciate your helpfulness and patience as a response to my near helplessness with any form of sophisticated word processing. My choices appear highly unclear at this point. I do not know whether to check Legal Blackline and/or Find Formatting. "Compare" is to the right of these two boxes, and File Name, presumably waiting for me to select the second newer version, whose modifications to the earlier document are my desired end product in underline and strikeout.

Everything I've tried fails. I obviously cannot GUESS the correct commands and their sequence, once my screen deviates from that shown in the article whose instructions I am therefore unable to follow.

But I'm now confronted with a chart in PDF, which perhaps would be considered an image by the Adobe 8 reader.

Whatever this is, the chart has text within several horizonal and vertical columns.

Trying to follow Adobe 8 directions, I'm supposed to use the black pointer (select tool) for drawing a rectangle around the chart. The black pointer will select text but not the chart, which is useless for copying. I have to paste the chart into Word exactly as it shows up in PDF. Nothing that allows me to draw a rectangle around the chart has appeared yet.

I'm sure there is a way to transfer this chart from PDF to Word, but someone with expertise and experience will hopefully be kind enough to explain each step to me.

I am trying to set some IP ADDRESSES on some IBM DS4300 DISK controllers before adding to a network; my INSTRUCTIONS to do this is connect my laptop to the disk controllers serial port; send a break command then set IP addresses using ipconfigset commands. (I have doen this in the past before - about a year ago). My problem today is that once I have connected my laptop to the disk controller with a usb to serial command; started HYPERTERMINAL; when i press CTRL+break command it does not send break signal to hyperterminal allowing me to access the shell on the disk.

I am using BAUD settings 19200; 8 data bits; 1 stop bit; no parity; Xon/Xoff control on comm port 6

I don't have much knowledge of hyperterminal - I was just given these instructions and they have WORKED in the past. My background is Storage infrastructure; not TCP/IP or hyperterminal!

Hope someone can suggest what I am doing wrong/a solution to try!

I CREATED a MPEG DVD file to my HDD using a hardware/software by ZIO Cameramate and PRO pix Eve. Created from a VHS tape.Saved Mpeg file indicates 2.3 gb. Using 4.7 gb dvd rw DISC. Using Nero Startsmart for burning. Message is "file too large for disk". What gives? Math tells me i should have lots of space. The program i am using "Pro Pix Eve" will automatically spit files into 3.6 gb (max) and whatever remains is placed in a 2nd file. However this one is all in one file indicating 2.3 gb. Spent over 1 hour on the phone with ZIO. They could not solve it. Suggestions appreciated.truenorthtruenorth Hummmmm ..... dl65 dl65,Thanks for the responce. I have used Nero Startsmart around 50-75 times to create dvd's from vhs transfers (always created with Camera mate and Pro Pix Eve). However this is the only one that came back with a file SIZE of 2.3 gb the others have all been split as 2 files . The 1st being 3.6 gb and the 2nd the VARYING remainder. Pro pix Eve also has a burning component-which i have never used to burn yet. However just to see what would happen i did try to use Pro pix eve to burn just to see how it would see the file. It too said file too large? Normally 3.6 bg in MPEG DVD translates to about 90 mins of video and it may well be that this particular vhs transfer may have been 90 mins or less (it was a while ago and i don't remember what the length was. Although i feel certain if it was 90 or less it would have been minimally less. Therefore from precedent i would have expected the file to be around 3.6 not 2.3. Is there any other info from the actual stored file i can tell you as it is still on my HDD?truenorth

When in a contact CARD for Outlook, under the activities tab, nothing appears. I've checked the FOLDERS it searches under and it is set for Mailbox. The entire Contacts folder is set to search in the Mailbox and the search subfolders box is selected. Anybody have any ideas?Open Outlook Help and in the answer wizard...type:

You will be directed to a couple of possibilities...select:

Tracking activities related to a contact

You can link a new ITEM to a contact
Link EXISTING items to a contact
Link a document to a contact

In order to SEE anything within ACtivities...you have to link an item to that contact in order to track it.

Hi, when I searched the forums for posts on Microsoft outlook I found posts in the windows and the computer software areas, a majority of the posts appeared here so I thought I'd try posting here.

Okay, here's my situation: I currently have an email account with Adelphia and I use Microsoft Outlook 2003 to access that it account. I setup Outlook so that when I receive the emails from the Adelphia account Outlook removes them and TRANSFERS them to Outlook (meaning a copy of the emails don't remain in my Adelphia inbox). I've decided that I want to stop using Outlook, MAINLY due to the fact that it makes it difficult to access my emails from computers not on my network account. I've decided to switch to a gmail account (for other REASONS involving irritation with Adelphia).

My problem is that I can't figure out how to get my emails from Outlook 2003 to my new gmail account. I've looked in the questions and answers section, the forum, and both faq on gmail and outlook official pages and still can't figure it out. I think I've figured out a way to redirect new incoming mail, but that's not my concern what I need is to redirect my old emails. I know that I could just forward all of my old emails to my new gmail account, but that will be a huge hassle and the emails would then show up as being sent from me and not the original sender. If I can't figure out another solution I'll do this, but I'm hoping there's a way to reverse (?) the Outlook process and send the emails either to gmail or back to Adelphia.

I found a way to create a rule that will redirect (rather than forward) emails (which is exactly what I want) but it turns out that you need something called 'exchange' or something like that... I think it's used by businesses. Since this is a personal computer and not associated with any business, I don't have that. There may be a way of working around that but since I've never actually used or created any rules in Outlook, I'm basically clueless as to how I'd do that.

At first I thought I could use the import/export option with Outlook, I know how to use that. I can locate the .pst file for my email account, I just don't know what to do with it afterwards.

I'm also having a little difficulty with my internet connection (I'm using a family members computer right now, but the problem should be fixed relatively soon) so it may take me a little while to respond to any help. But LET me assure you that any help would be appreciated.

-computer = Dell Dimension 4500
-operating system = Windows XP Pro (it's legitimate) with service pack 2
-graphic card = NVIDIA GeForce 6200LE (DDR 2, 256MB, AGP 8x)

again, thank you for any help possible.I'm not absolutely sure but I doubt very much this can be done. Think about it. With Outlook, your mail is on your hard drive, not out on the Internet. With Gmail, it is out on the Internet; it's web-based mail.

I looked at the info on Gmail on Google's site and, like you, found nothing about transferring mail from Outlook. So, I no other option but to forward the mail to yourself if you really must get it all moved over to Gmail.I agree. Sending it all to your new account is probably the only option...

But is there a reason you need it there ? ?

You can just export your contact list if that's what's needed...I thought that might be the case. However, thank you both for your time and effort.

Hey guys.... I'm not 100% sure where this question goes so I put it in this category because I don't think it's a hardware issue, but I'm working on a guy's laptop and am very FRUSTRATED with his MOUSE. (the touchpad on the laptop itself) Whenever I click on the left mouse button it performs a right click. (brings up the menu that a right click would) It also does the same when I click the right mouse button. So I went into the control panel to see if the buttons had been changed. The "mouse" section of the control panel said that it's set up to PERFORM a left click. So by all appearances it should be working, but it's not. So I downloaded the latest driver for it. (by the way, the computer is a Dell Latitude) and that didn't help either. So I uninstalled the mouse and reinstalled it and it still does the same thing. I tried setting the settings back to default and it's still performing a right click. I did make sure that it was set up for a right handed person. I even changed it to a left handed person to see if it would work the other way and it still doesn't. I'm all out of ideas...... I hope this all made sense.... any suggestions? I'm very confused right now...

Why not use an external mouse? I KNOW it would be a pain carrying the extra mouse around...but it is an option.Thanks the Savior, that's about the only other option I have right now. I'll suggest it to the guy and see what he says. If he doesn't WANT a big mouse there are always those little laptop mice I guess. Thanks anyway!It seems to me that the touchpad may just be failing, they do that eventually and laptops are not the most durable of things.
I remember my pad stopped working entirely, then worked fine after I'd given up trying to troubleshoot it.Well guys, I tried one more thing... I took the laptop apart and disconnected the touchpad from the motherboard and found a small white spot on the contacts and so I got some alcohol and cleaned it off, gave it time to dry and put it all back together again and now it's working fine. So maybe whatever that spot was just caused it to get a mixed up connection? I don't know.... all I know is it's working again so I'm happy. Not knowing your computer ability, is probably why this was not recommended to you. Un-sassembling and re-assembling a laptop can sometimes be a pain in the neck...especially if you don't know what you're doing.

What you have got is a "spanned set" Ghost image. Ghost is set up by default to make files that do not exceed a certain size. (2 GB I think.) For various reasons including filesystem size limits.

If you make an image and call it Image.gho, the Ghost program creates that file. If the file would get larger than the maximum size, the Ghost program then makes a ghs file called Image001.ghs, then Image002.ghs, and so on. Often the last ghs is smaller.

This is normal, and you need the gho file and all of the ghs files if you ever need to restore the image.

I have a letter I send to friends and one of the sentences I had underlined. When I copied and pasted it into my Mozilla email compose the underlining disappeared.

If I set for HTML format it would appear but now all single spacing became double spaced and all double spacing became triple spaced.

I have Mozilla as my browser with the default email program that came with it.

New member and hope you can help with a problem - I am re-setting a system for which I have formatted the HD and have a real problem with Java - trying to download and install Java 1l.5 ver 11 on W98SE using IE6 as a browser - the on line instal doesn't work and I have run the manual download 4 times at 1 1/2 hrs per shot on dial up - the download completes without problem but then the installation program will not run - double clicking on the thing just produces a flicker or two and then nothing. All other downloads I have tried work fine - spent days on this with no result and any help will be appreciated!

Maybe you should try the Sun Download Manager 2.0 Java download manager is a small and not very good program - Firefox's internal DM is BETTER in my opinion - I tried the version Jre-6 etc. which is another 11/2 hr download with the same result - nada.
Anything else I download with a setup and self extraction program works fine - this is driving me nuts and I would so happily do without Java but have to have the dammed thing to open sites like E-Pass and etc. I did try an archive download of version 1-4 which opened with no trouble and runs fine - the up-grade option included does not work just providing a very HELPFUL "download is not possible" message.

Now what? I've been trying to BURN a dvd for my brother and I recently found out my HL-DT-ST RW/DVD GCC-4243N drive cannot write to a dvd. If I INSERT a dvd-r it doesn't even recognize it.

Anyway, I'm wondering if it is possible to burn a .rmvb file onto a cd-r and be able to play it back and actually be able to see the video in addition to the audio.

DVD and VCD players nowadays would not support .rmvb files.If the file SIZE of the rmvb file is less than the size of the CD-R you can burn it to the CD-R as a data disk. Is this what you wanted to know?, However, if you want it to play in an regular standalone DVD player that's another thing. The quality would be very bad if you compressed it to VCD format.

The trouble is, the rise of all-in-one suites eg Nero means that many non-tech PEOPLE nowadays say "I want to "burn" an (AVI, RMVB, MP4 etc) file to DVD" when what they really mean is "I want to convert an (AVI, RMVB, MP4 etc) file to mpeg2 format and then author a DVD and finally burn that DVD in a compliant fashion so it will play on my standalone DVD player from WalMart". When it all goes *censored*-up as we say in Europe, they post 500 line long Nero log files on forums and write "HELP PLZZZZZZZZZZZZZ!!!!!!!!!!!" in the subject line.

I am running win98se, and to my dismay my PROGRAMS are no longer listed in add/remove programs....New installs show up, but currently installed programs vanished!!!! How can i bring them back??They have obviously been REMOVED from the registry by SOMEONE or something. Try booting to DOS, (press and hold the ctrl key while booting). Select "Command prompt only" (Use the arrow keys). At the prompt, type scanreg/restore and press enter. Select a date prior to WHENEVER the problem started. Well scanreg/restore failed twice, no more previous dates to restore from! Any other options? Just out of curiosity, download CCleaner and click on TOOLS. Are your programs listed there?

I just bought a Sony DVD108 camcorder and installed the Picture Browser and Sony USB Drive software. I can import files to my computer fine and they PLAY fine, BUT...when I open the window for the FOLDER the files are in I get a Windows Explorer has encountered and ERROR and needs to shut down MESSAGE box. It happens with any folder window that I have an imported file in. I thought it might be a memory problem but it happens even if it has just one imported file in it I can see the MPG files in the folder before the window closes so I know they are there. Has any one got any ideas as to what could be the situation with these files that they will play but not view in a window.How much free space on the drive? Is it the only drive in the computer?There is 32.9 GB left on the C drive which is an 80 GB drive that came with the computer. I ALSO have a 300 GB drive divided into 5 drives with Partition Magic.How large are the files and what flavor of Windows are you trying this in ? ?Not very large around 1 to 3 GB. Ok, so my second issue is I wanted to put some colour in the background of my document, so I decided to put a theme in. Done, great. But when I PRINT it, the background colour does not print! The only part of the theme that stays and prints is the coloured bullets! But I NEED that background colour to print too!! What do I do?

Ok, so my second issue is I wanted to put some colour in the background of my document, so I decided to put a theme in. Done, great. But when I print it, the background colour does not print! As for the colour, no print preview does not show the colour in the background...

Ever since my e Machines computer died I took the hard drive and set it as slave on a DELL computer to copy files like music and pictures it got detected and everything but I cant find any of my pictures or music from iTunes and WINDOWS media player. I search folders but always END up in a folder with nothing in it. I unhid the folders by using their properties. but STILL nothing. Is there a way I can recover my stuff from this older drive so I can transfer it to my DELL, any suggestions, anything???Was this in an XP machine ? ?

Help us help you.yeah, both are XP machines. I did not use any encryption but it was password protected though. Then you will need to remember the password to see your data...

So what i'm talking about are those spinning pictures that you see on the INTERNET, i don't know what they're actually called,which is probably part of my problem. An example is on http://www.us.playstation.com/psp/about/interactiveviews (press angle, front, or back at the top to see what i mean) the only difference is that the ones i'm talking about are where you move the mouse to the right side of the screen and it spins right left screen spins left. Hopefully you know what i mean by now.
So i SAW a program that let you do that on dotto tech, but that was so long ago that i don't remember what the program was called or what episode it was. Obviously, i'm looking to see if ANYONE knows a program that does that. I did try google, but since I don't know the proper name i just typed things in like "spinning picture program" or "rotating photo software", stuff like that, and it didn't work.
Anyone have any ideas?No one?

SCROLL down to Paint, uncheck it, and click OK. Then, REVERSE this procedure, thereby reinstalling Paint. I'm not sure but I think the Windows 98 CD may be needed.

Ive just bought a wireless usb camera that uses Camguard.
Unfortunately the software came in mini-disc, which I dont have on my computer.
Does anyone know where I could exchange discs or download it from the web?
There are plenty of try to buy sites but I've aready bought it. Any help would be gratefully received.Mini discs will fit in a standard CD/DVD drive.
There's a smaller circular bit in the middle of the disk tray, put the mini-disc in there.

2. It tells me theres 19gb of files on folders in there in owner but cookies my docments , faverites ,start menu and thats alll thats in there no hidden files just them

are there SPECIFIC brands of blank cd-r's that are not compatable with certain programs?rjmbass76 ....... Could you be a bit more specific, a cd-r is a cd-r . Are you certain that the cd-Rom will READ and write CD-R .

dl65 Certain burners don't like certain media brands...
WHENEVER i but a new burner i borrow/BUY one DVD/CD from everyone i know to include all major brands and most generics...
I then do a test burn MULTI format: music video and data with all the samples.
Then i buy the ones that work well with that burner.

Beats havin a 100 pack of blanks i can never use...

I'm somewhat computer stupid, so I'll try to explain the best I can. I've got Windows XP, 950 MH2, 960 MB of RAM (?). I had some computer work done and when the technician gave it back to me, he had made a backup CD of all my email addresses, WEBSHOT pictures, IncrediMail, my games I bought and downloaded off the Internet, and I haven't the slighest idea how he did it (I no longer live near where the technician is), and I'd like to KNOW how to do it. Can anybody help me understand how to do this? I've been trying to figure it out for months! I PLAYED with it a little today and I think I put everything in My DOCUMENTS on a CD and all my pictures from my Kodak program on CD. However, I don't know how to check it to see if it is there on the CD or not, just hoping it is there.

Burn the folders you want to CD or DVD. If the BURNING app says "Burn completed successfully" or similar, open My Computer, click on the CD or DVD drive ICON, explore the folders and see if all your stuff is there.

Yeah, this is a little strange. Up till recently I haven't had problems with this. But I started playing movies that make USE of the subtitle system and... nothing.

My friend got "Amistad", I started watching it, and I've seen the MOVIE before, one of my faves. So when they start talking FOREIGN languages I know for a fact that subtitles are supposed to show up. But... none did. So I thought it was the movie. I think my friend ended up taking the movie back because of it.

I feel bad now, because it SEEMS it's not the movie at all. I rented "Advent Children" (which FF fans know is all in foreign language) and selected subtitles and... nothing. What the heck are they saying?!

Took the dvd out and put in some other of my dvds that use subtitles. Zippo! No subtitles! Now you get to watch the movies and guess what it is you're laughing at!

What's WRONG with my dvd rom? I thought it was the program I was using. But I tried Interactual and Windows Media Player and they both meet with the same problem. Seems to be the dvd rom itself.

EDIT: Btw. I should add a couple things. I'm using eMachines desktop. WindowsXP installed.DLoad install and try it with VLC media player...Free.

This will eliminate it as a software issue if it still doesn't work.

The only way to test the drive would be to swap it into another machine and see if it still does the same thing...I don't why you are having this problem, but I do have a suggestion. Having installed XP, a fresh one, I notice that both my Outlook Express connection and WMP 11.0 sometimes just "are GONE" as if they never were there.
OE6.0 asks me for all the info to put in to get the software to connect to the Net/provider again and WMP 11.0 asks to logout and log in again before it will play the music...a problem I dont have with the VLC palyer...
LATELY even the USUAL IE7.0 starts to do the same as OE6.0....just disappearing...and when starting up again, the desktop shows the following: busy installing the personal prefs in Inter Explorer 6.0??while I installed 7.0!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!it takes some time and after a while the rest of the desktop is active again and when looking for 6.0 it's NOT THERE!!!!???
Is this XP getting Alzheimer symptoms too soon? it includes SP2 plus all the AUTOMATIC updates...
