Solve : Possible to Access Files after HD has been plugged into another computer?? |
|
Answer» When my laptop started having issues BOOTING, I plugged the HD into my desktop computer to either try to repair it or to just get the files off of the HD. The desktop did do some repairs and I was also able to get the files off. Before long the same booting issue popped up and I ended up buying a new laptop. The new laptop had a physical HD failure, but when I took it in I also brought the old laptop in to see if anything could be done with it. They were able to get the old laptop up and running, however I now can't open any of my files. The fellow at the computer repair place had mentioned that this normally happened when you plug the HD of one computer into another, however I had not had any issues with this before they repaired the computer, when the computer would actually boot. So I now have a working laptop that I can't access anything with. I also tried opening the files off of my external HD, both right off of it and after COPYING and replacing the files onto the laptop. Is there anyway I can get this laptop to be able to access the files on it and be functional? It is an ASUS and running Windows 8, not sure which version.Rather than attempt a correct answer, I will refer you to some ARTICLE elsewhere about hard drive repair tools. Bear in mind that these are free or low-cost tools and have not guarantee of stability. |

Solve : Hard drive consistency check - windows 7? |
|
Answer» I have a system set up where I install a windows 7 drive, then I remove the drive and plug in a configured windows 8.1 drive. Doing this allows me to do work on either system without buying another unit. Here is the issue: until recently I could swap these drives and do my work and use a second HDD that has the data files and there was no problem writing/reading the files on the storage unit. Now it seems (due to some system UPDATES on 8.1 I assume) every time I swap from 8.1 to 7, I have to run a complete consistency check on the storage drive(s) when I plug in the windows 7 unit - unless the storage unit is a USB drive. I have found it necessary to remove the installed data storage drives connected to the sata ports and connect the data units via USB ports. Then everything works and I can use the data storage units with either operating system. It's a real pain in the rear to have this happen now. Is this due to the recent updates to 8.1?? when I go to 8.1 from 7, there isn't any call for a consistency check in the 8.1 OS - just when I go from 8.1 to 7. |

Solve : Two 500gb HDD's, possibly failing or HDD setting???? |
|
Answer» Ok, I have two 500gb HDD's like the title says. Both are Seagate Barrucuda 7200.10's. Both were in a gaming PC I bought from a guy. He booted and let me look at it, and even test Bioshock infinite and skyrim on it. Now these HDD's had windows 8 on them before, but I wanted windows 7, so I went ahead with the installation not thinking about the secure boot. Get on their, and says it won't let me doing anything because of secure boot. So I get the idea to go to the other HDD, and put windows 7 on it. That one seemed ok with letting me format and install on it. So I figured, ok, just got to boot from this HDD instead, and format the other one from within, or find a work around. Well windows 7 let me create a user, everything going fine, even formatted over the other HDD and basically took it over with windows 7 (Not sure if this is a fail on windows 8 part letting me do it, or if the HDD was acting up???). Anywho, install some games, going great, playing the games. Now I was just doing normal day to day tasks, and windows 7 starts acting up, almost like it was slowly wasting away, then couldn't boot into windows 7 anymore, SAYING no MBR could be found. So I re-installed windows 7, installed games again, same thing happened again... Try to re-install windows 7 a third time, and it says it can't on both HDD's because of secure boot. So my first THOUGHT, was the motherboard was the culprit. Tried both HDD's on different PC with windows 7, and it said no to formatting because of secure boot. I then tried on a linux based pc, to see if I could format over it with any of their formats, said no to that to. Then tried DBAN, and couldn't boot it because secure boot wouldn't let it. OK, so now I use a different HDD from a different computer, a Samsung 120gb, in the gaming computer, to see if it would work ok and everything. Install windows 7, install video games, play video games. Everything was fine! No issues whatsoever. I order a 120gb intel SSD, switch it out, install windows 7 etc etc... Worked fine with the SSD as well, no issues. So anywho, what does everyone think??? Are they failing or is this an HDD setting holding onto the windows 8 secure boot possibly??? Let me know what you all think, any possible solutions... Would be nice to save a whole 1tb of memory from being trash . Rootkit detection is difficult because a rootkit may be able to subvert the software that is intended to find it. Detection methods include using an alternative and trusted operating system, behavioral-based methods, signature scanning, difference scanning, and memory dump analysis. Removal can be complicated or practically impossible ...Awhile back Intel and others creating the secure boot firmware standard. The intent was to find any odd data on the hard drive boot arar that might have malicious use. http://www.webopedia.com/TERM/M/microsoft_secure_boot.html This might give you a clue.Well, I guess I counted my chickens before they hatched. But the drive failed. Got a BSOD, starting saying there was a hardware error in DOS style, also, I started hearing clicking inside the drive, like it was failing hardcore in trying to function. The second drive was not found at all on seatools DOS, I did try to get it up on boot and use the windows seatools, but the computer would not boot at all with the second drive plugged in. So, I believe they are dead dead. However, if you believe otherwise, then I will attempt something else. But for now I am assuming dead.Ignore my last post. That was a conjecture. You have spent enough time on this. Now I am confident the drives will make suitable doorstops. Lol, all good. I thank you for all your help sir and all the info you passed along. Now do I close this thread, or does someone here do that for me??? Or I could just let it die off into the abyss of forum junk lol . Quote from: kyle151515 on July 20, 2014, 01:27:23 AM Now do I close this thread, or does someone here do that for me??? Threads that are spam get removed; threads that ask about banned subjects such as piracy get locked or removed; normal threads like this one remain open usually. I have marked it as solved. Solve : USB Ports stay powered after PC shutdown? |
|
Answer» So i have a new PC with a ASROCK Z87M Pro 4 motherboard that insists on powering all my usb ports after shutdown. This wouldn't be too much of a problem if I didn't have 2 external HDDs that go into standby mode and blink their led power lights creating an annoying lightshow untill I flip the psu switch. I've searched around a bit and found that enabling ErP/EuP should fix it, but the bios menu has no option to enable this although the motherboard manual claims it to be ErP ready. The ErP (Energy-related Products) Directive is part of the European Union’s new environment regulations concerning the increased proliferation of electronic devices and the impact these devices are having on the environment. The goal of the ErP is to set new energy efficiency standards to reduce the energy consumption and other NEGATIVE environmental impacts that occur during the product’s life cycle.(unnamed source.) Also: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Energy-related_products Quote In November 2009, the Eco-Design Directive EuP was replaced with the new energy-related products directive (ErP) 2009/125/EC. The old directive for energy using products only covered products that used energy, such as washing machines or computersDoes this mean people are - -- leaving washing machines running 24/7? ***SIGH*** Quote from: Geek-9pm on July 20, 2014, 11:03:36 AM Does this mean people are - My 2012 Zanussi washing machine is powered up 24/7/365. As for cutting the wattage in half would increase the charge time of say a kindle fire by 2x the prior time. So your newer computer would take 2x the time of the old computer to charge the same device. So your newer computer would take 2x the time of the old computer to charge the same device. Could you imagine the angry mobs of people who get upset when the new PC takes forever as in twice the time to charge their portable devices when the computer is shut off and idle...LOLthe limit of the 5v Standby rail with the PC's Power supply is the only limiting factor in terms of total power draw. "Normal" USB can deliver 2.5 WATTS per port at maximum (500mA at 5v). I'm surprised anybody uses the features of a PC often provided when it is off, such as charging USB ports. Though I seldom shut my PC off. I've found power-related features and options on a desktop PC to be a giant crapshoot.Dictation. My earlier post about a washing machine being left on full the time was meant to be a sarcasm. I had no idea that the European Union as well as the United States want people to use standby appliances that consume only 1 W of power. Now, if they really want to, there is the technology available that can reduce the standby power down to zero. Yes, zero, or even less. To make it work there would have to be a change in the electrical codes for all new construction and for existing residential construction. Basically, it is about how to to PROVIDE an alternative power source to small appliances over the existing residential wiring. This system would supply the standby voltage of 18 V that comes from a different power source. The power source would be something other than the electrical mains. For example, it could be a solar panel that charges up a battery and provides the DC voltage through the existing power lines. Excuse me, I misspoke. It is not 18 V DC. It is actually a radio frequency source that will deliver about 18 V DC to each appliance. Sorry, I don't have the details at hand. The concept is similar to the idea of providing data over power lines using radio frequencies, except in this case, said discrete radio frequency is used to provide a small amount of power. Because this would introduce new technology, it doesn't seem likely that the European Union and United States would adopt this kind of technology in the near future. But in the long term. it offers a way for an entire city to shut down the entire power grid for several hours while residences can continue to have standby power for emergency use. Meanwhile, we have these goofy laws that require a Band-Aid approach to a much larger problem. Back to topic. I would imagine that the OP could come up with some clever scheme of having a power cut off with some kind of a relay after the power level drops below a certain point. Your sarcasm fails...everytime. Perhaps a new humor vein would suit your purpose...You don't understand. |

Solve : USB flash drive not seen by PC? |

Answer» Acer Aspire 5732Z Removing a drive without clicking 'safely remove...' usually doesn't create problems, but it can It does... Quote Removing a drive without clicking 'safely remove...' usually doesn't create problems, but it canThanks Miloske, but Patio's right, it often does. Even if the drive's finished reading or writing there's still a +/- 0.25 second delay before it's safe to remove it......that's the whole point of the 'safely remove...' dialogue. Mine must have had write caching enabled (default is disabled), though I don't remember doing that. I've tried formatting it but I just get a "there is no disk in drive..." message. The comp seems to recognise that something's in the PORT, but isn't able to access it. Trying it via Linux is a good idea, thanks! I'll post here to say how i get on. Cheers Quote from: patio on July 02, 2014, 05:42:52 PM It does... Sure, but it is rare OCCURRENCE, at least in my experience. I always click "Safely remove..." when I'm at home, but in both places where I worked I was criticized by senior co-workers for wasting my time with it. In a repair shop where I worked we had 3 flash drives that were being plugged in and out (unsafely) dozens of times every SINGLE day and all of them were at least 2 years old. We only formatted when we got them infected. I also have lots of friends who couldn't be bothered with "Safely remove hardware" and only a few of their flash drives had problems.Hi Sorry but when a pen drive shows those symptoms the memory chip has failed. Which is pen drive failure, not caused by unplugging when it is not safe to do so. There is nothing that can now be done to get the pen drive to work. i've tried it in a linux machine, but same symptoms....i guess it's one dead drive! maybe your right about it being pretty rare, miloske...based on my previous experience i thought so too, but since this happened with mine i've heard or read about quite a few instances of it......? Lisa, this happened immediately after it was unplugged while still in use & although it was new-ish i'd never had any problems with it before, so it seems a bit coincidental that it would fail just then. why do you think that would happen? That has happened to me. Many times. Cheap or bogus flash drives are being sold. That has been discussed on this and many other forums. Even eBay warns buyers. Answer» The motherboard IWill DNS-SATA EATX has Intel E7520 chipset (FSB 800); this is enough to support two Xeon X7460 (FSB 1066)? I heard that some motherboards have the ability to reduce the CPU's FSB to work. Is this the case? Solve : Windows 7 install broke my existing partitions? |
|
Answer» Hello, Now here's where I think I went wrong - I eventually gathered the remaining parts for the new computer and built it. I installed Windows 7 on a new partition on the Seagate drive. I tried to make sure that the installer did not touch the existing partition, however since installing Windows 7 the existing partition is unreadable in both Windows and Linux. I have a strong feeling that data has already been overwritten. But I agree with Geek that if you have critical data on this drive and can afford the costly recovery your best bet is a data recovery center. However the methods shared in that link if they work for you you can get some or all data back. For the fact that Windows 7 doesnt recognize this space on the HDD though there is a good chance that it could have stepped on top of the old data. However the methods shared in that link if they work for you you can get some or all data back.Seeing as how Ubuntu didn't mount the partition either, I reckon that's likely. I've even tried manually mounting it, specifying the NTFS type and NTFS-3G just to be sure and both complained about an invalid NTFS. If Testdisk doesn't find anything on this deeper search, I might just see if I can find a data recovery service nearby.Seagate offers data recovery service. Sorry for a late reply, it's been a busy week. I did let Testdisk do a deep scan as written in the article before, though it didn't manage to find anything except for a FAT12 partition: Though judging by the start position it gives, I'd say this isn't of much interest. I think I will just have to LOOK at getting a data recovery service for the old drive as it hasn't been touched since I used ddrescue on it. Thanks for the help |

Solve : XP hard disk-how to gain more free space?? |
|
Answer» Is it safe to use an option "compress drive to save more disk space"? And does it really take very long TIME (20 HOURS)? Thanks Safe? Yes - but there are some programs that don't like running on a compressed drive. Instead, I SUGGEST you use disc cleanup (be sure to click on "more options" and delete all but the most recent restore point - that will gain a great deal of space. If you have more than one drive / partition you can move "My Document" to another location. Some other things you can do:
If you have run out of space, I agree with Allan with using an alternate drive if connected for my documents etc. However with drives so cheap these days for massive amounts of storage, i'd suggest if you cant remove or move data off the primary drive to buy a larger drive and install that in place of the other drive. * If replacing the HDD be sure you have a way to copy the OS and Data over to the new drive. Most hard drive manufacturers offer software utilities free that can assist with this, however while this may be easy to achieve for a desktop computer where you can connect 2 drives at the same time, most laptops can only handle 1 internal hard drive at a time and so backing up data to an external and then installing clean to a larger drive is best. For the fact that you mention XP ..... you either have IDE or SATA. If its SATA you can buy a modern drive, however if its IDE then you have limitations to maximum capacity and might have to buy a used drive that is larger. Also depending on the age of the computer the HDD controller might only SUPPORT a maximum of 137GB in which no matter how large of a drive you install you can only address this limited capacity of it. What is the make/model of computer or if custom build the motherboard make/model?I would adivice never to use disk compression. It just makes many files not work. try getting new external hard disc. Or use disc clean up to deleter previous version installation files. I was using xp for 10 years and lost much data using disk compression. lot of games didnt work after compression. And the pc would slow down. Hope this is helpful. Quote from: DaveLembke on July 26, 2014, 07:54:45 AM
MSI CR630Thanks for sharing that info... looked up your laptop here: http://www.msi.com/product/nb/CR630.html#hero-specification Was trying to find a picture of the bottom of this model to see if there was an access panel to remove to get to the hard drive to UPGRADE easily, but from top and side view construction of this laptop it looks like it may be one of the more difficult ones to upgrade the hard drive in. Looks like you have probably the 320GB HDD.... so the question now is, do you really need all that data on that 320GB SATA HDD to be on it all the time or can you unload some data that you dont need all the time to an external hard drive. I have a laptop with a similar CPU that is a Toshiba that also came with a 320GB HDD and the biggest waste of space on mine has been loading up many large install games such as Aion, World of Warcraft, SWTOR, Tera Rising, Diablo III, Starcraft II, and many others. To free up space on my laptap when I got down to just 60GB free of the 320GB HDD, I moved almost 40 GB of videos and pictures to an external HDD that my camera kept downloading to it every time I joined the camera and laptop together with USB cable. I also removed games that I no longer played or ones that I rarely ever play. Games that I rarely play, I copied to my external HDD so that if I wanted to play them later at some point i wasnt having to redownload 25GB etc.Moving data to an external is a much better option than disk compression... I agree with David. |

Answer» hey i have a hp touchsmart 300 with an amd athlon x3 400e in it i want to upgrade to amd athlon x3 460 but when i PUT it in it came up with an error before the windows screen came up can anyone help? the issue is much more likely down to the video card in that system which is a very old and weak, integrated ATI Radeon HD 3200 which is not designed for gaming in any way. Unfortunately this cannot be upgraded. I feel a CPU upgrade is a waste in this system because your stuck with integrated GRAPHICS. You will need to buy a different computer. No matter what you put into this system for CPU your still limited with the weak GPU. What games are you trying to play that you need better performance with. Maybe we can make some affordable suggestions. I have seen people skimp by with Intel Core 2 Duo used system purchases for like $100 refurb with OS included, and throwing the money into a good PSU ( $40-$60 ) and Video Card ($70+ ) instead and able to play modern games pretty well and very affordably on a tight budget. This gets them gaming for around $250 with ok performance but not a system to brag about. For around $400 you can start to buy all new guts and have a gaming system, but with a weaker $50 CPU to cut costs etc, but an upgrade path LATER if you need more performance for number crunching in games. Buying a used Core 2 Duo system, your only possible upgrade path might be a Core 2 Quad, but you would have to do some research into the system bought to be sure its supported as for not all socket 775 systems can take a quadcore. |

Answer» Please tell my few suggestions for a nice combination of motherboards, PROCESSOR, ram and graphic card sufficient to play high end games. Budget should be minimum.. Quote from: OptimuSXI on July 30, 2014, 03:52:28 AM Budget should be minimum.. That doesn't help much - "Cheapest possible" and "High end games" do not go together. You need to GIVE us an actual price range as WELL as any parts that you already have and therefore don't need to BUY. |

Solve : Seagate external drive clicking? |
|
Answer» I use a 1 TB Seagate drive for my backups and it has been clicking lately. Less than a year old but I do a full system backup once a week which is 320 GB. The backup failed Fri or better said, I unplugged it due to the somewhat NOISY clicks after running too many hours. Having been around computers for a while I am PRETTY sure this can't be good! Thoughts?Drives can fail at any time. Most fail after a longer time than less than 1 year, but there is no guarantee (there is a Seagate warranty). You have two symptoms SUGGESTIVE of drive failure: an unusual noise (clicking), and a failed backup. You could consult the help at Seagate.com, for example: I was just curious as to who told him cliking was normal... Me too. Some people go into denial about hard drive failure and look for reasons to believe it hasn't happened. Quote it has been clicking lately Not "It has been clicking since it was new" - just clicking "lately", around about when all the problems with backups happened. HFDS symptoms... |

Solve : Hardware caught on fire...? |
|
Answer» So, whilest browsing through chrome, out of nowhere, computer shut down on me After this point, computer would not pass the "loading windows" screen at the boot up. so after few tinkering, not wanting to have a clean re install, I decided to take out and re plug all computer parts, hoping that would fix the problem... but after doing so, well... it caught on fire..... When you said you "decided to take out and re plug all computer parts", what exactly did you do?<STRONG> I also presume that power was off when you were doing this. I have seen smoked parts as a RESULT of live plugging and unplugging, which is caused by spiking parts & traces and causing load balance issues. I agree with Camerongrays info he shared with you. If you are lucky you can get a new motherboard and swap out your CPU, RAM, Cards into it and be back up and running. There is no realistic repair for the torched traces that I saw in the picture. If any of the parts are damaged, they should just hold back the new board from booting, but not damage the new board. * However I have seen once where a video card failed and redirected 12V to the 5V when a 12V trace cooked and when it heated it just happened to glow red hot and then came to rest onto a 5V capacitor near by on the + leg side burning up everything just about on the motherboard that was 5V. A very RARE failure!!! So be sure to inspect for burned areas or cooked components and smell your video card if you have one in this system to see if it was a similar failure to the one that happened a few years ago. It might smell due to the motherboard that cooked, but if it has a strong spot that stinks, check around that area for damage. |

Solve : Finally going to build- Part II? |
|
Answer» this BUILD is starting to be a bit out-dated, still a quite capable machine but I figure if I can afford a new build I may as well do so. I was originally going to up the RAM to 16GB for this machine but that was ridiculously expensive.
Motherboard: That does bring me up to $1350 price wise, But that's fine. Quote Unless you have some sort of extreme monitor setup for gaming, you'll never need SLI and would be better just upgrading the card down the line.Well the plan is to get a 2560x1600 Monitor to go with it, and ideally games would be run at as high resolution as they support.Lookin good... My last 3 vid cards have all been EVGA's and i've been very happy with them... They did have an upgrade program as well let's say they come out with the latest, greatest 6 months after you buy...you have the option to upgrade and they credit you back at full retail towards the new card.Just a note on the CPU...the "K" Intel CPUs don't support all the virtualisation gubbins, it's worth checking out the Intel ARK page for the CPU before you make a decision. Off the top of my head it's VT-D the K chips lack compared to non-K, I don't know if this is important to you or not. Good point - Really depends if it's worth losing the overclocking ability for that. From what I've found, software such as VirtualBox and Hyper-V as well as Linux stuff like KVM and Xen are happy on a 'k' CPU but this may cause issues depending on what you are doing. Off the top of my head it's VT-D the K chips lack compared to non-K, I don't know if this is important to you or not. That looks to be the case. However, VT-D looks to be a "high-end" Virtualization feature, mostly useful for servers which will run multiple VMs. VT-X is specifically what I'm looking for, the lack thereof has caused some problems since I cannot virtualize a 64-bit OS at all without it. VT-d seems to be more about sharing resources between multiple, long-running Virtual Machines.Indeed, just wasn't sure which specific VT features you NEEDED so I thought it was worth pointing it out. It's a very annoying quirk of Intel's lineup that the K CPUs don't support that one single feature. If you don't need it, it's definitely not worth sacrificing the overclocking ability for it though, especially as the non-K isn't that much cheaper. VT-X is supported, as you said, so the 4770K should be absolutely fine.camerongray wrote: Quote •The Corsair RM PSUs are great but you don't need anywhere near 750w for that build, 650w is more than enough - I'd also avoid the CX ones as they are positioned as lower end units. They don't seem to sell the RM650 at tigerdirect so you would need to find it elsewhere (In all honesty, the selection of PSUs at Tigerdirect.ca seems really limited) My input on this subject is that if he was to implement dual video cards later on, he would want to have 750watts vs 650watts. So while I also agree that 650watts is plenty for current specs, just not sure if the 650watts will hold up against 2 powerful video cards as SLI etc. So just wanted to state that so that BC is not stuck later on having to yank out a perfectly fine 650 to place a 750 in and spend more money later. Depending on video cards though 650watts can be enough for a system with SLI, but it all depends on the cards that are going to be used as well as if any other internal HDDs are added for RAID array later etc, as well as additional power demands if this is to be an O.C. machine which draws more watts. If that was to become necessary at some point I could simply swap with the Power supply in this machine (which is 750W).A quick note on power requirements - GTX 770 SLI would be fine on a 650W PSU, peak system power with an Ivybridge-E at 4.6GHz and both cards fully loaded was comfortably under that at 505W in Guru3D's review - http://www.guru3d.com/articles_pages/geforce_gtx_770_sli_review,4.html The 4770K isn't as power hungry as the 3960X and their test system also has most power saving options disabled, and additional hardware such as WC pumps and cold cathodes. 650W is more than sufficient for the proposed system even with SLI and a few further upgrades. The TX650M is also a decent upper midrange unit, I'd have no problem with that PSU. Oh, one more thing - I've never been a fan of Vengeance myself, although it may well have improved. I would however look at other RAM as there are other 16GB kits available cheaper, from equally good manufacturers (in terms of warranty and service). Quote I'd generally say to avoid getting a PSU for maybe getting SLI in the future as in the meantime you'll be running it well below its peak efficiency - Unless you have some sort of extreme monitor setup for gaming, you'll never need SLI and would be better just upgrading the card down the line. A PSU works at its most efficient at over 50% of its load, therefore if you buy a way overpowered unit for the setup it will be running well below it's peak efficiency and therefore will waste power. Hardware is getting more efficient all the time too. I believe that is what I have in this machine. It's a bit cheaper as well. Exactly, I was pretty shocked when I tested my PC - Idles at around 90w and reaches something like 300w when running a very graphically intensive game. This brings the grand total to $1,772.58. Shipping and handling brings that up to $2,045.52. As a result I removed the hard drives. I could buy them but it's pointless since once the new build is operational I doubt I'll be using this machine very much. I like the idea of a backup, working machine but it doesn't need a 480GB SSD and 4TB Hard drive to serve that purpose. Removing the HDDs brings me a total cost of: $1,550.50 I was tempted to buy it now but I'm not exactly rushed to have a new PC so I'd like to explore the possible options or if anybody has any suggestions that could shave additional dollars by switching out other components, or if I can upgrade something for a bit more. I've started the transfer of $1750 to Paypal for this purchase Once that finishes I'll be ready to go, and it is effectively the budget I have in mind. Do I do things that need 4GB of Video Memory? Uh, probably not. The only thing that can possibly hurt is my wallet but it's in a good place for the moment so I figured why not. The main thing I'll look forward too is a new 1440p Monitor... I'll just have to 'suffer' with this 1440x900 monitor that only has VGA input. |

Solve : random freezes since installing new motherboard and cpu? |
|
Answer» new motherboard is Asus M5A97 LE R2.0 cpu is AMD FX 8150 8-core came with Asetek self-contained water cooling/heatsink. I also installed 32GB RAM dual-channel, 4x8GB. Since I made these updates I've been having random freezes that seem heat RELATED. I checked my cpu and although I can't seem to get the cpu fan speed above 580 rpm and cpu temp seems to stay around 46C/114F that shouldn't be hot enough to cause problems. When the freeze occurs my HDD light turns solid instead of it's normal blinking, so maybe it's HDD related. any sugestions appreciated. Need more info. pleae ask.First things is to put a memory test on a booty able device. Then disconnect the HDD, boot the memory test. You want to test the memory without the HDD running. |

Solve : Building First gaming PC? |
|
Answer» Hi I wanted to build my own gaming pc, yet it will also be for video editing, art etc... I was wanting to get as much opinions on it as possible, and see if anyone can see any possible hardware conflicts, possibly any issues as far as something is underpowered or overpowered. Also, to stat, I am wanting to strike a real good balance between performance and reliability, hence some of the parts that I will be listing (Want my PC to last me a good long while with the least maintanence or worries...). Now with price, I can't exactly say the sky is the limit, however, I would like to pay for top brand for the simple fact I want to know it will work, work for a long time, and won't stress/burn itself out under any load. Lastly I am not too terribly interested in the overclocking scene/showing off/desire for immense power and speed. However, if anyone believes it will help me, for whatever reason, I will consider it, since I do value everyone's opinion . Anywho, here is my parts I want to get: Ok cool, thank you for these replies. I currently have a Keian kt-780as(780watt) in this system. I am personally sketchy about this PSU, since I couldn't find it on newegg. You are right to be sketchy, that PSU is certainly just another generic one that will be extremely low quality (Doubt it can come close to outputting anything near 780w). Just because the company has a Japanese website doesn't mean that it's going to be a good unit. The Japanese are well known for making high quality capacitors in power supplies but the unit is clearly made in china and I doubt they have used these good capacitors. Quote What would be a con of a bigger PSU??? I mean, personally I just want the extra umph around. If there is no harm that could come to the system, there would be no reason for me to go lower. It won't cause harm but will cost more to buy where the money could be better spent elsewhere. Also in terms of efficiency, a PSU will RUN at its most efficient at or above 50% load, if you have a very high wattage unit yet pull very little power from it, the PSU will run inefficiently and just waste power as heat.Okie dokie. Confirmed how I was feeling about the PSU xD. Bought this rig from someone a while back... Anywho, that's about it, thank you for the assistance, and you have a good day . |
