Solve : cord for a macbook pro?

Answer»

My SON put the end of my laptop's cord in his mouth (the end that attaches to my laptop). I dried it off and waited a COUPLE hours for it to air dry as well just in case.
Usually, the cord has a little LIGHT on it that is green when the laptop battery is charged and orange when it is charging. Right now, the light is still orange even though my computer is charged.
If SOMEONE could get back to me soon, I would really appreciate it. I am freaking out because this is what happened before my last computer died (I thought it would be ok this time because I was completely sure it dried) and I really can't afford another computer.
Thanks. If its shot, you wouldnt have to replace an entire computer, just the power adapter. If saliva got past the LED onto the sense board inside the connector, it may still charge your laptop, but report incorrectly. You shoudl see an indicator on your laptop when the cord is attached, if you see this indication then the laptop is taking a charge. If no indication, then its time for a new power SUPPLY. If you have to replace it, buying a used one off of ebay or one of those universal power supplies with the different cord attachments might be cheaper than buying directly through $$$APPLE$$$

Solve : about Video card?

Answer»

hi! i have my laptop TOSHIBA Satellite L645 and i didn't expect that it's video card is only 64mb...QUESTION:can i upgrade this one???or do i have any option on how to change the video card??that's all..?THANKS in advance..Is this the laptop you are referring to? --> http://www.4hindisms.com/notebook-laptop/toshiba-satellite-l645-s4032-specs-drivers-and-users-manual-guide.html
According to its specs, it has Intel HD Graphics with 64 MB – 1274 MB allocated shared graphic MEMORY. You may NOT NEED to change anything in BIOS SETTINGS for that MATTER. 64 MB is just the minimum set, however if needed, on any intensive applications the system will compensate the graphic demand thru allocated shared graphic.

Solve : Touch Pad issue?

Answer»

I have a 3 year old Toshiba laptop and have had an issue with the touch pad. Periodically it becomes UNPREDICTABLE and unreliable. Trying to move the MOUSE does not work and at other times, it works perfectly well. I don't know if touch pads "wear out", if their are settings for the touchpad, or what. Does ANYONE have any thoughts or ideas to try and address this ?. Thank you in advance.Try DLoading a fresh copy of the touchpad drivers from Toshiba's SITE and re-installing them....they may have been corrupted.
Re-boot afterwards. One solution is to get a mouse and use it instead of the touchpad.

Solve : BSOD when trying to install external drive?

Answer»

Dell Dimension 8400 - had it since 2005

Son bought me a western digital passport, when i tried to install it in usb port in back, it said found new hardware, READY, then got a bsod. rebooted, tried using the usb port in front of tower, found hardware, ready, then when it said to install, got a bsod. rebooted and came here.

Before this i was trying to burn a cd from my photo album software and got a bsod as WELL.

Anything or any ideas you can give me would be appreciated, or is it simply my computer is on it's last
legs?

thanksYou post does not have ENOUGH detail to know exactly what happened. The symptoms sound like a power supply problem. But that is not certain.

Well, we are sure it is not global warming!

Anther possibility is that a component such as then DVD drive, the floppy drive nor every the memory sticks may be failing and cause your Dell Desktop to power down.

Have you recently cleaned dust out of the computer? Do all the fans run at normal speed? Believe it or not, a friend took her PC to a repair shop and they could not find what was wrong with it. A fan was stuck and some how they had not found it!

The external drive, even if it is bad, should not force the PC to shut down. Well, it could if it has a rwally bad problem.
Download BlueScreenView:

unzip downloaded file and double click on BlueScreenView.exe to run the program.
when scanning is done, go to EDIT - Select All
Go to FILE - SAVE Selected Items, and save the report as BSOD.txt
Open BSOD.txt in Notepad, copy all of the content, and paste it into your next replyIs this the right one? Thanks.

Do you have any Sonic software installed? If so, do you need it? If not, uninstall and see what happens.I have a Sonic folder which has DLA, RecordNow and MyDVD as folders. I'm pretty sure they are what I use when i use my E Drive to write to CD/DVD's. I think they came with the computer when i bought it, so as soon as i can find the discs they are on i'll work on uninstalling and trying again. I want to be able to reinstall them i guess in case i need them. I never had this problem before. Thanks.Sonic is pure garbage....you'll be BETTER off without it.

And there are excellent Free alternatives....post back if you need any.Agree with patio. Sonic DLA is causing the problem. Uninstall it - plenty of good free software alternatives. Thanks - yeah i guess i'll need some alternatives. I don't really know much about Sonic other than it opens when i want to write to a cd or dvd, and i have no idea what DLA is or that kind of stuff. So whatever you got, i'm willing to listen. thanks again.I use CDBurnerXPro....Free and easy to use. Thanks, as soon as i manage some time off, I'll work on your suggestions and let you know how it turns out. Wanted to let you know, i uninstalled the Sonic stuff, and was able to install the external passport. It's backing things up as i go to work so i think all is well. Thanks again for all your help, you guys are super.Excellent news !

Thanx for taking the time to STOP back and update things...

Solve : which Laptop is better Intel or AMD?

Answer»

I'm thinking of buying a new laptop. I want to use it for office work, and for watching HD movies. I haven't got any laptop yet so I don't know if AMD or Intel is better.

Any opinions?neither Intel or AMD make laptops.@BC_programmer : i THINK the topic STARTER actually meant to ask...which laptop is better...the one with a amd PROCESSOR or a intel processr!! Either one is cool with me. My first AMD was slow and buggy. (Because it was a cheap piece of CRAP.) But my DESKTOP is running on a AMD Athlon II and I love it. I was using AMD Athlon II for my processor and I like it better than Intel. I don't know with other since it's just my opinion.

Solve : Extra keyboard with custom hotkeys? Help?!?

Answer»

Hi everyone,

I WOULD like to be able to add an extra keyboard, extra numpad or any extra device to my PC to be able to assign a couple of more hotkeys. For instance I would like to be able to assign F1 do google, F2 to facebook, F3 to open control panel, "W" to open word etc.. Or maybe I could use it in games and assign a couple of hotkeys over there?!

Is this possible in any way? Is there any existing way or is it possible to just plug in a regular USB keyboard and "hijack" it with any software coded by myself (i am a programmer)?

Im not so good at keyboards and how thwy work. An existing solution would be the best but since I am a programmer I would also be glad for more advanced solutions if any,.

Thanks to you all! /Jesper1 machine = 1 keyboard.Look into gaming peripherals. A load of them, I believe have that sort of funtionality with an easy to confgure interfaces. espc. look at the razer lycossa.

I am not sure they do exactly what you want but I am sure an experienced programmer would have no problem modifing the code to work..I have a Logitech EX110 Keyboard and mouse set, and the set allows you to program the F1-F12 keys to preset functions, web addresses, or programs. there are also 4 dedicated function buttons for you to program. There are an additional set of keys for email, internet and documents, which can also be changed to suit your needs. For example my documents button opens Winamp for me.

There is also a button that allows you to swap between normal Fkey mode and hotkey mode on the fly.

It is not a gamers set, so it is very cheap, yet should solve your problem, then you will also only need one keyboard.

I have had a look around, and it SEEMS this set is hard to get hold of now, so perhaps another Logitech Keyboard will suit your needs.LThis can become a LARGE topic.
But first, has the OP already done this?
Hit F1, bring up Help, search for 'hot keys' (without quotes.)

EDIT
WARNING. If you Google for
windows hotkey software
You may be led to one of over a dozen hostile WEBSITES. Says WOT.

I've got a keyboard that in addition to the STANDARD F keys, has an additional 18 keys that can be programmed for many other uses. I think that is what you need. I got it in a small computer shop in the middle of nowhere, but if you check Newegg, Amazon, etc. you should be able to find one like it.I think he wants a software solution.
But if he is gin to buy more hardware...

At patio noted, 1-machine has only one keyboard "object" (so to speak). That is, when you plug in a second, third, or any number of other USB keyboards, they act as one; software cannot tell the difference between a keypress amongst them, or any PS/2 keyboard attached.

The only way to possibly tease apart the different keyboard events would be to literally create a device driver that polled all keyboard HID devices and detected when keys were pressed and released; the device driver could then callback into functions that programs have installed to be notified by said driver.
Hardly worth the effort, IMO... definitely an over-engineered solution if nothing else.Quote from: BC_Programmer on November 15, 2010, 08:39:42 PM

But you can do it BC. You have to re-write the native Keyboard ISR, Interrupt Service Routine, and prevent windows from finding the extra keyboard. Would it take you three days?

Sorry. you're wrong.

Solve : No life from a gateway laptop?

Answer»

Hey guys,
A friend of mine gave me her computer (a gateway nv5214u) to fix. Her original problem was that it began to SPONTANEOUSLY shut down and recently would power on at all. After 3 hours of carefully figuring out how to take the case apart, I gained access to the motherboard. I found that the power switch was defective. I also found that I could jump the power connector on the board and it would turn on. I ordered a new switch, went to install it and found that the switch works, but there is barely any signs of life. The only sign of life is the power LED is on. No hard drive click, dvd spin-up or fans can be heard. Also, when I jumped it, I could get on to the desktop, but it wouldn't stay on for very long. Probably missing something obvious, but any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks!Quote from: doubleriospy09 on January 14, 2011, 05:11:39 PM

1. Does this mean you temporarily connect the 2 solder pads on the motherboard & it turns on? How long does it stay on after removing the "jumper".
2. Don't know what you mean "switch works...". OLD switch probably does the same.
3. Seems like there is some connection between the 2 solder pads, like holding the power button for more than 5 sec.

yes, I connected the two solder points together and it powers on. Before, it stayed up till 1 minute or so past the desktop loading. Old switch had loose, hard to solder 24 AWG wire connections so it did not work. I attached a pic of the mobo, mapped as best i could.

Based on what you fixed & what you stated originally, there were 2 separate problems. You've fixed the latter (no power on), now concentrate on the former (spontaneous shut down).Quote from: Computer_Commando on January 15, 2011, 01:04:14 PM

Any ideas on what could be causing that? I CLEARED all the dust from the vents and out of the fan and the fan works, so overheating is out. My main problem right now is the whole no video thing. Upon turning the laptop on, I only see the power LED on and hear the slight whirr of the fan-nothing else. If I had video, I could get to the desktop and diagnose from there. Try an external monitor.I tried hooking it up to a KVM switch that I use for other computers then to the monitor directly. Monitor just sits in standby mode. I even hit the video toggle switch on the laptop and nothing happened. Which is leading me to believe its the integrated video card. I am offiicially out of ideasQuote from: doubleriospy09 on January 16, 2011, 10:59:35 PM

I agree. I have read that some HP laptops with nVidia graphics chips are prone to overheating & desoldering themselves. There's a CLASS action lawsuit. There is a YouTube video showing how he heated the chip to reflow the solder. I don't have the link.

Solve : Make back-up HDs for RAID 0 with Hot Spare.?

Answer»

I'm new to working with RAID. I find myself needing to make a full set of spare HDs for a Dell PowerEdge2900 RUNNING Server 2003, with three HDs.

The HDs are in a RAID 0 6i set up the third is the hot spare.

How do I best do that? Seems I could just pop the new HDs in the Hot Spare slot one at a time.

I guess I am a LITTLE CONFUSED. From what I READ the two main HDs only have half the data on each, and the hot spare has all the data on it.

What's the procedure?

Thanks in advance!

Solve : Automatic Shutdown?

Answer»

Hi!
My computer automatically/randomly shutdown. sometimes it WONT turn back on until I re-seat the video card.

Additional information: Southbridge (CHIPSET) fan is not working for 2 years now.

Here is what I've tried:
1. CLEANED RAM and video card no avail
2. system restore, no avail.

System:
Windows 7 ultimate
AMD Athlon 2.8Ghz 64bit
1.5GB RAM

Your comments and suggestions are appreciated.

Should it be the wrong thread please move.Possibly chipset is getting hot. Suggest 1. monitoring temperatures with suitable utility suitable for motherboard brand/model 2. Replace southbridge fan. Maybe it is not the reseating of video card but the time it takes (cooling) that is the cure. 3. If motherboard has onboard video try using that and removing video card.

Agreed with Salmon.

To tell for sure, download and install speed fan once you have the computer running, and report back the temperatures here.
http://www.almico.com/speedfan442.exe

We will be able to tell you if the temperatures are in a safe VALUE range or not.

Solve : compueter comes on but screen does not?

Answer»

the computer comes on the light and fan but the screen does not and says power saving mode
TRY replacing your CMOS(3V) Battery --> http://wiki.answers.com/Q/How_to_get_out_of_power_save_mode_when_computer_screen_is_blackthanks jason will try thatI would start with the obvious 1st: Check and make sure everything is plugged in properly at both ends.

The 'power saving mode' is just your MONITOR telling you it has no signal and is shutting down. Do you have onboard video on your motherboard or do you use a GRAPHICS card? Try taking out your graphics card and using the onboard video 1st.

Do your fans stay on continually fast or do they speed up and then SLOW down? If they are on continually fast then your computer is not POSTing and you may have a defective motherboard, processor or RAM. Try taking out all of your expansion cards and all of your RAM. Then only install the RAM (if you have 2-4 RAM STICKS in the computer, take them all out except for one) and try turning it on.

Solve : Can't get monitor back to normal PLEASE HELP?

Answer»

My monitor is "stuck" in what looks like safe mode. The font, icons, etc...are huge, and nothing I've tried is working. I posted this in another forum and no one will answer. I am desperate, I use this computer for work, and am not the only one in the house that needs it. Please help. First of all, it has nothing to do with your monitor. What changes have you made to resolution or any other software lately?I think I deleted the driver by mistake...?? I was told by someone in the chatroom that I need the driver for ATI Radeon HD 2400 PRO. Can you help me with that?Is there some reason you didn't mention that in your first post? And how do you DELETE a driver by mistake?

Regardless - get the driver at this link, download it, install it:
http://support.amd.com/us/psearch/Pages/psearch.aspx?type=2.4.1&product=2.4.1.3.1&contentType=GPU+Download+Detail&ostype=&keywords=&items=20Not everyone is as knowledgable about computers as you here on this site are, so making the comments you did just make it all the harder. I'm not saying that I deleted it for SURE, and to be honest, every person I've talked to here has told me something different. First I needed to reinstall Windows XP, then I needed the driver, the last guy I talked to in the chat told me to download Piriform Speccy, which I did, then he left the chat before he finished telling me what to do, so please understand that for people like me with very basic computer skills only, this is very confusing and frustrating. Lack of knowledge is something with which we are used to, and that's not a concern. The problem is that at no point have you told us the entire story. If you want intelligent help you need to provide COMPLETE and EXACT details of what you've done and what is going on. Now you've told us that you reinstalled the OS. That's crucial to the issue!!!

Download and install ALL drivers for your system, starting with the chipset driver. You can get that from the website of either your computer manufacturer or your motherboard manufacturer. And stay out of chat support. If you want knowledgeable help come to a forum, not chat.Ok, I downloaded that, now it's asking if I want an express or custom install, and where I want it installed. Can you TELL me which to choose please?NO, NO, I didn't reinstall the os, I'm just saying that's what one person told me to do. I'm sorry, I'm not trying to withhold info, I am just so confused and have done and undone so many things I figured it was easier to just give as basic info as possible. Sorry, I'm not trying to make this more difficult than it already is.

I downloaded the driver, but can't get past where to install it, because everything on my screen is so big, I can't ever get the whole page. I am stuck where I was before, it says express or custom, I picked express and then chose my desktop as where to put it because when I chose my computer I got an error message. But I can't see the bottom of the page to see if there's something I need to click on, etc...help!!!
OK, I got the install to start, so hopefully this step will get done.
Ok, that install is done, now what? I clicked on the icon on my desktop, but I have no idea what to do now???So you did an "express install"? That's fine I guess. Now reboot. Then right-click on your desktop and choose display properties and set the resolution to something reasonable.

And now you say you did NOT reinstall the OS, but in a post above you said you DID reinstall XP. Which is it?No, I didn't say that. I said that I've been told a bunch of different things, one of them being to reinstall XP. I didn't do that, because I figured that was a last resort. I will do the next step now, thank you. Ok, my monitor is back to normal now, but I know there are STILL quite a few things wrong. Should I start a new post in the virus forum? Thank you very much for helping me with this problem. I appreciate it even if I sound impatient!

Solve : Replaced a failed hard drive and now nothing seems to work.?

Answer»

Hello,

The hard drive for my HP p6320 went bad and I had to replace it. I swapped it out for a Seagate Barracuda XT. I thought that all I needed to do was plug the new drive into the old drives cables, turn it on and maybe go through some Bios configuration, but when I went to turn on the PC my monitor just kept going into auto save mode. At this point I have absolutely nothing coming up on my monitor, except the auto save message, and I'm not hearing any POST beeps. I've also noticed that my CD/DVD drive will open when I push the button and then close shortly after on its own with no command from me.

I've tried removing the CMOS battery, checking all the connections and USED both analog and digital monitor cables to no avail. I'm really not sure what to do at this point and any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks What is your operating system? truenorthWindows 7 home premium (64-bit)

Foxconn h-rs880-uatx motherboard

AMD Phenom II x4 processor

Integrated ATI Radeon HD 4200 graphics

If you REMOVE the Hard drive, will the computer come up in the BIOS menu? No, even without the hard drive present nothing comes up on the monitor. With no CD is in the drive & no hard drive connected, it will do nothing unless you command it to. On powerup, you tap F1, F2, F10 or DEL key to enter the BIOS. You might see it flash briefly on the screen, but new computers are so fast, you may see nothing.Perhaps it is making it to the Bios screen, but I have no way of knowing or interacting with it. My monitor keeps automatically going into auto power save mode and I have no way of seeing what is being displayed on the monitor. I've checked out the monitor separately and it seems to be functioning normally. I'm really not sure what I may have done to be causing this to happen.

Thanks for taking an interest in this problem, I really appreciate it.Ok now if i understand your immediate situation correctly.
1. Your master HDD in the computer failed leaving you with NO HDD.
2.You purchased a new unformatted HDD (the one stated in your original post) and installed it.
3.You expected that once installed it would work right out of the box.
4.This is NOT the case. Things need to be done in order for the HDD to be recognized and ultimately be formatted etc before it will work PROPERLY. As an example at some point you will need to install your operating system plus much more.
Here is a step by step tutorial for the processes necessary to get your new HDD functioning in your computer. I hope it will give you the guidance needed to accomplish your task.
http://www.windowsreinstall.com/win7ultimate/nohddinstallguide/index.htm
good luck ,truenorthYou are correct about the situation, except that my actual problem is that I am seeing no communication between my monitor and pc. Well, I assume there is some communication, because the monitor goes into auto power save mode. Regardless, I'm aware that I cannot just plug in a new HDD and expect everything to be the way it was before. However, I'm not even able to get to a Bios screen and tell it to use the new HDD since I have nothing coming up on my monitor.

Essentially I have done something very wrong while installing my new HDD. As a result I am seeing nothing on my monitor except for, "Entering Auto Power Save Mode."

Check the CMOS battery, removed from the motherboard it should be 3.0V.Just before i move into an alternative suggestion. How long have you owned this computer? Is it still under warranty?
Now do you have access to another video graphic card? 1st try opening the case and ENSURING if the current graphics card is seated well. On reading the specs on your computer i am not sure if the video card is on BOARD or stand alone. If it is on board then no re seating is possible. If you cannot do anything with your current video card try to obtain another (borrow) and see if that changes the access to the monitor.truenorth

did try to reset mother board

You have to be specific. What do you mean reset?
You need to give the type of machine(laptop,desktop),model/brand/specs., current OS.
What got you into this problem? Any previous issues that could have CAUSE this to happen on monitor and now booting issues. Virus infection, Overheat, Hardware Failure... Anything to avoid speculating... And lose the caps...

Solve : Windows recovery help??

Answer»

I'm sorry in ADVANCE if I give an inadequate amount of information, I'm NEW. I have an ASUS notebook (UL50VT) running Windows 7 that doesn't boot unless I use the Express Gate. Otherwise the "Disk Read Error" message comes up and then prompts me to restart using ctrl+alt+del, which doesn't actually work. When I tried starting it in safe mode, it booted up but then asked what language I would like to recover in, I'm not TRYING to use Windows Recovery. I don't want to lose my files, but are they already gone? How do I fix this?

Any help is greatly appreciated Use Express Gate to modify configuration. It appears that this feature is a GUI version of the Setup & more. Unique to Asus laptop. See the YouTube video.

Solve : Acer laptop BIOS will not boot?

Answer»

I have an ACER Extensa 4420 laptop that takes 15-20 CYCLES of power to get it past the BIOS boot. The screen shows "ACER" and the load ribbon shows about 3/4 finished. I cannot get into the BIOS when this happens. I have reseated the HD & RAM. I have taken the battery out, disconnected the AC and held the power switch for 60 seconds and when it was running, I ran various anti-spyware and malware SW--finding nothing serious. Since the BIOS did not finish, should I assume it is in the BIOS or MB? Running Vista, AMD Athlon 64x2 dual core processor TK-57, 128 GB HD & 2 GB of RAM.
ThanksOne more test.
Let's suppose the hard drive is sucking too much current.
Remove the Hard drive. Power up and see is the bios will stay on with a message that indicates the drive is not there. You said you removed the mobo battery. Did you replace it with a new one?I removed the laptop battery. I could not find the MB battery. I assume it is under the keyboard, but I have not figured out how to remove it. sorry - my mistake - I didn't notice it is a laptop. Please disregard my post.Quote from: Flyer on May 30, 2011, 04:51:40 PM

I removed the laptop battery. I could not find the MB battery. I assume it is under the keyboard, but I have not figured out how to remove it.
It's hidden somewhere, probably below the keyboard. It's not readily accessible as on most newer laptops.
If you let it finish the POST, it might show a diagnostic message:

[recovering disk space - OLD attachment deleted by ADMIN]You can let it sit all night and it will not finish with the BIOS. Quote from: Flyer on May 30, 2011, 09:40:06 PM
You can let it sit all night and it will not finish with the BIOS.
Does this mean you removed the hard drive and just let it stay in the BIOS screen?

Another test, it you want.
Borrow a hard drive, anything compatible with that laptop. Don't try to boot it, Just wait and see if the extra load on the power supply makes it crash. If it can go 20 minuets or more and no crash, then it must have been your original hard drive has a component or mechanical failure that is sucking current.Once I get the computer to boot up (after many power cycles) it will stay up for days--so far. If I shut it down, I have to go through the same process again, so I don't think it is HW, but it could be the boot sector---although I've run all kinds of SW to look for those problems. Then again, it never finishes the BIOS boot (laptop splash screen stays up). It will sit forever in that mode, if you don't cycle the power again.
Thanks for the helpI pulled out the HD. Laptop BIOS booted for a number of times before stopping again. I removed the laptop battery and AC power along with holding down the power switch for 60 sec. It again booted a number of time before stopping (HD still out). I've tried a number of times to change the boot sequence, but it reverts back to HD first. After one of these changes I got these messages: 0270 Realtime clock error, 0251 System CMOS checksum bad - default configuration USED. PRESS f1 to resume.
Thanks

On older laptops, the battery is nearly impossible to locate. The thinking was, the battery has a lifetime of 5-7 years, which is the more than the life of the computer. I have one that's 12 years old & it still works.I had removed the KB to look for the battery. Looks like the case will have to be cracked to do that. No matter what you ask ACER tech support they say they will repair any problem for $199. I don't know why they have a tech support. They should just have an automated message that that says that.

After I reseated the KB connection it started booting fine. I'm not quite sure why. I'm pretty sure the battery is bad, as I've reset the clock a couple of times. I've given the computer back to the owner and hope to not see it again. If it was mine, I would ha e opened the case, but you never know what can of worms you get then.
Thanks everyone. I'm going to mark this solved, even though it is not really.

Dear SIR:

I have a Dell Inspiron 1525 laptop with a Mobile INTEL 965 chipset family which has 0 dedicated video memory. I want to buy a program that requires 256mb of dedicated video memory. Is there a way change the dedicated video settings?

Thank you

Francesnope, dedicated video memory is memory SPECIFICALLY taylored for the graphic card. and the mobile intel chipsets get their memory from the RAM so dedicated video memory is not an option. if the card is an Nvidia or AMD (ATI) card then you might be able to use the program.Dear Zeealex,

Thank you so much, I really appreciate knowing the answer.

Solve : BSOD & Random Shutdowns?

Answer»

So at the beginning of last month I build my own desktop. Everything seems to have worked fine until recently when I've been getting the BSOD and random unexpected shutdowns. Today was the worst of it all. I couldn't even get my system the POST but then eventually it did. I've ran virus scanners and they've turned up nothing. I have the latest drivers installed. So I have came to the conclusion that this is hardware related. The system doesn't overheat. The MAX my CPU gets when under heavy load is about 47c when I'm playing games and applications like that.

Where do I go from now in pinpointing the problem?

I WISH the problem wouldn't be happening this far into this college semester as I have Java assignments to do.

Specifications:
Mobo: ASUS M4A89GTD PRO
GPU: XFX HD-587X-ZNFC Radeon HD 5870
CPU: AMD PHENOM II X4 965 BE
RAM: G.SKILL Ripjaws Series DDR3-1333Mhz
OS: Win 7 Ultimate 64You did not indicate what if you had done minimal hardware testing, .True, there's a very good possibility is software related. But it turns out to be hardware, you'll just be wasting a lot of time.
Here is a very, very simple hardware test. You prepare a couple of floppy disks. One of him is just a plain formatted floppy. The other a DOS floppy. INSIDE the BIIOS always boot from floppy. Of course, you know happens. If the system boot sector is present, it will put up into a DOS system. If the blank floppy is present you get an error message because there is no operating system.
Also, set the hardware so that if there's a power failure or power interruption, the machine ill restart and go back into power on state.
By now it should be pretty obvious to you what I'm asking you to do. Start up the system with a good system floppy and let it boot up. Then remove that and put in the other floppy drive that does not have the system. Now just walk away and let it sit there overnight and come back in the morning to be one of two things. You still have just DOS prompt, or now you'll have the error message

So what is the point all this? To make sure what happens is not system software failure. In all my years I have never known MS-DOS to just reboot itself for no reason. (Windows, yes.) The reboot occurs because of a hardware If your don't fix a hardware problem, there is little point digging into Windows. First of all you have to make sure it is not really a hardware problem.

Now if you are reading positively sure it is not a hardware failure, and just ignore everything I said.I don't have a floppy drive installed on my system. Should I boot into safe mode with command prompt or just plain old safe mode?

Also, for setting my hardware so that if there's a power failure, the machine will restart and go back into its power on state, how exactly do I do that with Windows 7? I'm still learning everything there is to Windows 7 so I apologize for not knowing how to do some of its functions.Geek-9pm's suggestion is good, but you can burn an ISO to a cd and boot off of that. I would recommend memtest and drive fitness test. Just google memtest ISO and drive fitness test ISO. Then download cdburnerXP (the free version) and it will let you write ISO files to a disc.

Before we get into any testing, I'll need to know what the stop error is on your blue screen.

If you couldn't get your computer to POST after it shut down and later you turn it on and it works, then there is a high probability that you have heat issues. When your processor overheats, it shuts the computer down or REBOOTS. I would blow all the dust out of the computer out with a can of air and re-apply thermal paste to your heatsink on your processor. And make sure to do it right; most factory thermal paste jobs suck.

Once I know the stop error on your blue screen I can go further, but until then I would remove all expansion cards and test the memory one by one.Everything on my computer worked good up when I built it near the beginning on last month up until like a week ago. I really doubt it's a heat issue as my temperature monitoring software doesn't show it going over 47c when its under heavy load such as gaming and only 27c-30c idle or just browsing the web. I ran a memory test with the software on the Windows disc and it did say it encountered PROBLEMS on my memory so I guess my RAM needs replaced? I have no problem doing a complete wipe of my PC if you recommend doing that or even running Linux.

Here is what I got from the BSODs.

There's no USB bug attached. I only have my USB ports that came with my mobo, 2xUSB 2 and 2x USB 3, and the 4xUSB 2 that are builtin the case.

I've tried 3, or possibly even 4, different versions of the Catalyst drivers and it seems to produce the same problem.

Right, but the video card itself may be bad regardless of having the correct driver or not. If your RAM tests good, it may be the VRAM. I would try using your onboard video card for awhile to rule out your expansion card. If you're currently using your onboard video card and your RAM tests good, you may have a bad motherboard.

Solve : Converting external to internal?

Answer»

Hi, I've looked all around but i haven't been able to find a solution to my particular problem.....

My now quite old 1TB external (Fantom Drives from at least 4 YEARS back) has met its final demise from a falling speaker that managed to smash the power cord and cause the drive to no longer power up. I tore the casing open in hopes of salvaging the hard drive and FOUND 2 separate drives. I did happen to find a post on another website with a similar issue and they mentioned that they were only able to salvage files from one drive since the other one was lacking the filesystem.

So my question is... would my HD's work if i stuck them in my case or would I only have access to one?

Any advice or suggestions are welcome, thanksWhat type of connectors are on this drive ? ?
Any jumpers ? ?

If IDE jumper it at slave and see Here...Yes they would work. Getting your data off is another issue since they were probably raided and the chip not powering up would have broken that raid.I didn't see RAID mentioned anywhere...

It has to be mentioned?

So an external 4 year old 1TB unit with multiple HDD's wouldn't have to have a raid activated in order to recognize a singular drive? You think that an external drive would recognize, say E: and F: at 500GB a piece? I'm just trying to understand your logic that's all.Quote from: OpenSource on October 26, 2010, 08:44:31 PM

Usually external enclosures with multiple internal drives won't USE a published "RAID" standard for striping, instead using proprietary/custom formats. That would explain the posting the OP NOTES from another page, where using one drive allowed them to get about half their files, but all the files on the other drive were gone/unaccessible. Most non-redundant RAID scenarios are of the "all or nothing" type; either you have all the disks in working order and all the data, or you have nothing. You cannot, to my understanding, simply plop in the first drive from a RAID set and have a perfectly valid File system. Therefore, it stands to reason that since it worked with the external drive for that particular user on the other site, that the external circuitry uses a simpler approach that somehow merges two separate filesystems into one, RATHER then having one filesystem extend across several Disks (as in RAID0).

And of course, it could very well have exposed the two disks as separate drives... Although I can't say I think that is very likely.

exactly my point, and since he can't power the ROM that controlls that RAID then it would be broken.

Technically it's not really RAID (or, more precisely, it fits the acronym of RAID but doesn't use a published RAID standard)... that may be where some of the confusion in this topic has resulted.

One possible way to get it working, however, would be to either get a new power cord or find another external drive of the same model; in the former you'd be able to simply use the power cord (assuming that is all that was damaged), and in the latter you could swap the two drives in the "new" external for those from the "old" one.

The first option would be difficult, especially if the adapter is some freaky weird proprietary random thing. laptops have lately been standardizing but I don't think the same has occured with externals. of course, if you get another of the same kind you would probably get a power cord with it, so you could try the first option even with the second.

Not sure about the second option, since being older I don't know if one would be able to find a new unit; a used one would work, of course, for either recovery option.Quote from: BC_Programmer on October 27, 2010, 09:26:09 AM

Solve : What is my RAM limit on my PC??

I am using an AMD Athlon XP 2800+, 2.1 GHZ processor.
I have 2.4 GB DDR RAM in it right now in two slots. I bought another 1GB DDR RAM and put it in the third and last slot. It doesn't seem to come up on dxdiag. Have I reached a RAM limit?

Thanks xTravel to Crucial.com and run their online scanner...And as for the ram limit, you should probably check the owner's manual for your system. It's possible your mobo requires both slots to have sticks of EQUAL value. Thanks for the link, I just did the scan on Crucial, here's a screendump.

I have added a third 1 GB RAM to the last slot. There are only three slots in my PC. Crucial.com scan tells me there are four, that I can upgrade, and that currently I only have 2GB inserted.
I have three GB inserted and I have TRIED to fit them in different slots, swapped them around. DXDIAG and Crucial both still say there is only 2GB in my machine!

MB is chaintech Mk8t890, AMD Athlon 64 3000 @2Ghz, 512 mb ram. Windows xp Pro v2002 sp3. Phoenix bios, integrated perif--on chip sata enabled, sata mode --ide. New hard drive is 2Tb WD20EARSSP. Any ideas on getting my bios to recognize? thanks,, joeHave you enabled the SATA port where the device is plugged into? truenorththanks truenorth--answer would be not that I know of--can you tell me a little more about how I might?Bad cable, bad connection, bad drive. You need to enter your BIOS and usually i BELIEVE your SATA ports will listed under "advanced" and however many you have (SATA ports i mean) will be listed there. Determine which ONE your new sata drive is connected to (if your lucky and your already existing HDD is also a Sata and you only have 2 then it will be the other one). They are numbered from 0-X (X being the number you have on the MOBO) So if you have 4 ports they will be from 0-3. If in doubt enable them all and the only result at boot will be that any not occupied will denote no SATA drive found for those not occupied. On a Dell that i did this on there were only 2 AVAILABLE and they were numbered on the MOBO. Hope this HELPS. truenorththanks for the help--I think I have an antique mobo with no support and no way to upgrade bios--going to cut my losses and clone this one to a smaller sata drive on another machine--thanks again--joeWhat size was the old hard drive?

Solve : Can some one help me??

I'm looking to build my own computer, I have a list going here and I need another set of eyes to see if I need anything else or if this list wont work because of the compatibility.

My computer will be running on Windows 7

DVD DRIVE: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827135204I just quickly looked through, but I think that looks good.

Did you use the Power Supply calculator on Newegg? Gives you a rough estimate of your power needs (at full load, to be safe).
I didn't really pay attention, but make sure you get a power supply rated high enough to handle anything you put in it (or intend to in the future).

Make sure you get a 64-bit version of Windows 7 (or Linux distro if you're like me) if you intend to use 8 GB of memory.

Check any "bottlenecks" because I don't know what you intend to use it for or if you want upgrade room.Ok thanks man for the TIPS but whats the "Bottlenecks"?When I say "bottlenecks", it usually means speed.

Example: Think of a pipe. If that pipe merges into a smaller pipe, the water can only go out so fast, RIGHT?

It's the same with computers. If you have a super fast processor, but slow as molasses memory, the processor cannot RUN at full potential because it has to wait for the slower memory to catch up. Now this doesn't just apply to a CPU and memory, it can apply to almost anything. There's no sense in putting a top of the line video card (or anything else), in your computer if it can't handle it.

Now you know.

No, but now I know what they meant; they meant (if I understand) that the card takes up less space horizontally.

Graphics cards for PCI-Express come in exclusively 16-lanes. that is- the longest x16 PCI-E slot. a PCI-E 1x or 2x card would use a teensy little tab to connect.

He wants some that do not use the PCI slot.
He might have to BUY ONE and tear it up, but there would be not software effects itf he just TIE it to the 12 volt rail. The PCI is an INTERFACE that flashes the lights under software control.
But if does not want the special effects, he can look at these.

Solve : Suspected Processor Usage Spike and Lag Problems?

Answer» QUOTE
You could try disabling those to see if the issues go away; a quick google says that other people have had hanging issues and that disabling C&Q made the issue go away.

Another thing to try might be to disable all power management options altogether temporarily and see if the issue goes away.

Do you mean... Display Options --> Screen Saver --> Power? I have Hibernation off, no UPS, minimal power scheme; turn off monitor, hard disks, and system standby set to Never. As far as I KNOW I have no other software that attempts to control power usage like the C&Q does.

I did go ahead and disable C&Q and I seem to be having less hangups, but they STILL occur. Now that I have time for the computer again, I am going to stress the computer some more and see just how much disabling that did or did not help.

I have left Process Explorer running all day again to see if I could catch anything noticeable in the hangups, but really nothing at all. CPU usage stayed in System Idle predominately with Interrupts and DPCs never taking more than 4%. Actually when there is a hangup there isn't a spike, the processor usage flatlines in the graphs. I will SHOW in two screenshots of the one I caught this afternoon. This links to a public album I made, each image has a description underneath I wrote.

http://s6.photobucket.com/albums/y206/dave_radz/Computer/

I know that doesn't help much, I just wanted to show that I am not getting any kind of easy sign of what to investigate. I'm gonna burn up some RAM now and see if I encounter any hangups in the next two hours and what I can record of it.

EDIT: I am not sure what use this information is, because I don't know exactly what the "busy" light in front of the tower corresponds to, but the behavior while frozen is such that it blips, two seconds pass, and it blips again ad infinitum. 'til the hangup ends anyway. Otherwise I don't see it unless it has a lot of models to process in a game or 3DS/DWG.

Since it has been a few months, it seems the hangups occur more often when I am running several programs EATING up half of my memory. It even seems I often need to turn down the game quality settings for the sake of performance. I wonder if the latest NVIDIA drivers nerfed my computer. I have uninstalled and reinstalled them several times though. The two lights on the front of the tower are usually the power on light and the hard drive activity light. Solve : New build problem?

Answer»

Hi guys, been a long time since I was last on here - finally have the time to come back - hopefully regularly!

Anyways, here's my PROBLEM. Currently got a self build going on for my aunt. Mix of old COMPONENTS I had and new ones. It is built, it powers on, but I get nothing on the monitor. I have tested and replaced CPU, Mobo & Ram. GRAPHICS card has been tested in my own rig and does work, RAM tested in my mates rig and it works. I get no system beeps, just the sound of the fan spinning up. It's puzzling me since I can't figure out what the *censored* is wrong with it Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Rig setup is:
450W PSU
Athlon II X2 250 AM3 CPU
ASRock N68C-S UCC board
2GB DDR2 800 RAM
MSI GeForce 8400GS 512MB Silent GDDR3 PCIe
500GB SataII HDD (tried powering on with and without this connected)
Standard Sata optical drive (currently not connected until problem is sorted)Is the 4/6 pin power clip connected to the vid card ? ?There is no power clip for the gfx card, it doesn't NEED one.Hi GX44,
Have you tried the motherboard without anything plugged in just keyboard and monitor into the on-board VGA and you have both power connections to the motherboard.

i had this problem when my Packard Bell died, it was the PSU being a total wolly. have you got another PSU to test?

Solve : battery problems?

Answer»

The battery in my laptop Fujitsu Siemens Amilo Pi2550 was getting old and not capable of recharging anymore.
So I bought a new battery but get a red cross notification in the battery icon stating that no battery is in place.
The old battery Pack is a Fujitsu Siemens 3S4400-G1S2-05 and the new one has a model name of Fujitsu Siemens 3S4400-S3S6-07 and should be COMPATIBLE with the Amilo Pi2550 series.
Do you KNOW a solution to the problem?Just a guess.
The notification icon on the SCREEN must be calibrated for a new battery. Check the user manual for this. The battery doesn't RECHARGE at all -thus making a calibration impossible.
Even though the batteries looks similar I discovered that the voltage is different. The old battery has 11,1Vdc and the new one has 10,8Vdc. The amps are the same. Is there a solution for that? I guess not

I probably have to MAKE a dispute............
If that is the battery they recommended, then yes, they should explain why they sold you a battery that awns not the same.
The may be a reason why it is efferent. IMO, the vendor should explain the reason to the customer.

Solve : Printer still displays low ink??

Answer»

I had already refilled my canon ink cartridge(colored and black) but the printer STILL prompts that my ink is still low? I'm using a windows xp sp3, printer is canon pixma 258. I have tried reinstalling the cartridge a couple of times but still have the same error
A solution is very much appreciated..the ink jets have a CHIP that can not be reset by you. it will always say empty no matter how much ink you put in.Does this warning "prompts that my ink is still low" even THOUGH PRESENT still allow you to print with the printer? Generally Canons (and many other brands as well) will when an "out of ink" condition warning occurs will NOT permit any further printing. If you had this cartridge refilled at a commercial ink refilling station they should have "reset" the chip for you. If you did so yourself (my favored option) then you would have needed a chip re setter for that particular printer model. They are commercially available if you know where to find them. Another alternative is to buy CARTRIDGES that do NOT require resetting. These are also available. However neither of these products will be available from the printer manufacturer. truenorthThanks for the help...

Solve : Asus notebook startup problem??

Answer»

Well I have an asus EEE PCnotebook about a year old. When I turn it on it says "windows could not start because the following file is MISSING or corrupt:
\WINDOWS\system32\1_intl.nls
You can attempt to repair this file by starting Windows Setup using the original Setup CD-ROM. Select 'r' at the first screen to start repair."
Well the PROBLEM is it's a notebook and doesn't have a place to put in disks! What should I do to fix this error and be able to use the computer again? It appears that initially this device came with a Linux OPERATING system with later versions coming with windows XP. So is your UNIT this one (original) or is it a later version?http://www.futurelooks.com/impressions-of-the-asus-eee-pc-notebook-computer/
Having read all 4 pages of the functionality of the product there is no reference to ADDING of items other than through the SD card slot. However as I'm sure you know with all the available USB ports you could if required install an external optical read/write device which would address the need to incorporate material from a "disc". However if it is typical of todays computers you do NOT have a disc of the operating system. So where to go from here? Hopefully others may come along with some more ideas. truenorth

Solve : Motherboard or Hard drive Screaming before clean POST?

it has baffled me for a while now, the motherboard is a Gigabyte GA-MA770-UD3 (not exactly fantastic, but it does it's job) but i used to get it just after i built the multimedia PC and old parts from an old Packard BELL Multimedia PC packed up one by one i used to get this:
POWER On
screech
beep (or beep sequence)

the location of the screeching is toward the front bottom of the case it's low pitched and lasts about a second in length, it's only recently it has started doing this on a clean startup, usually it was limited to errors.

even for me this is confusing.
the PC is about 8 months old now, i'll give specs upon request
if you can help, great
Do a few consecutive boots and hold each fan in place with a QTip...1 at a time...

This should FIND the culprit.tried it then, it's STILL giving me crap

Solve : Need help with computer?

Answer»

So I need a new pc to play MW2, SF and LoL

I got a few questions to ask you guys

First:

Is this pc good

http://www.google.com/products/catal...d=0CCIQ8wIwAA#

Second: Will this monitor work with that computer

http://www.google.com/products/catal...=0CIYBEPMCMAg#

Third:

I know the video card for the computer is bad, so i need a cheap video card, my price range for video card is up to 50, make it a good but a low priced video card, avg.

Thanks!Well both your links are dead, so if you could update them that would be helpful. In regards to playing games I don't know what SF means so if you can clarify that it would be helpful and I assume your other two games are Modern Warfare 2 and League of Legends.

For Modern Warfare 2 I BARE MINIMUM to play it is:
Code: [Select]PROCESSOR: Intel Pentium 4 3.2 GHz or AMD ATHLON 64 3200+ processor or better supported
Memory: 1 GB RAM
Graphics: 256 MB NVIDIA GeForce 6600GT or better or ATI Radeon 1600XT or better
http://www.shacknews.com/onearticle.x/60971

But I advise you not to settle for the bare minimum.

And the requirements for League of Legends are here, but Modern Warfare 2 specs should cover it:
http://www.leagueoflegends.com/board/showthread.php?t=14060

It buy a cheap video card I suggest you shop at:
www.newegg.com
because they usually have the cheapest prices and their customer service is great.

I would recommend you some video cards but I don't know your PC specs.

Computer is HP Pavillion, 733 mhz celeron processor with Windows XP Pro operating system. PC will not boot up after a power failure, it displays the "windows did not start successfully SCREEN" with 30 seconds to choose start up in safe mode or start up in normal mode. After choosing a mode it will boot up to a certain point then shut down and attempts to boot up again. I have tried both safe mode and normal mode without success. Solve : Ram/Memory on Workstations?

Answer»

Hi guys,

I'm planning on purchasing a workstation soon, but i need advice from experts on how many memory/ram should i be looking at. I will be buying from OEM such as DELL or HP, according to their workstation series there are models which can be upgraded to 16 GB, 24GB,72GB, 192GB.

Running on WINDOWS 7 Pro 64-bit OS

Programs that i will be using consist of: DS Solidworks, Autocad, Autodesk 3Ds Max, Inventor, Adobe Creative Suite, perhaps Bunkspeed or other rendering programs not to forget MS Office + +

As this is the first time i will be buying a workstation i need feedback or advice from people who's doing the same task and perhaps running programs of such.
I'm looking to optimize the performance of my workflow, in reality do i need 70GB ++ of rams ? The task i will be doing is designing Products, interior space, 3D modeling, Rendering + +

Please advice me,
THANK you very much for your help! Hi
Balance the amount of memory with a really good graphics card, And CPU (I7), 16Gb for those programs would be enough. Look for a graphics card that is supported by the main program you will be using. And perhaps RUN your programs from solid STATE hard drive. If you do make sure that you backup the drive/s to another drive the life expectancy of SSD is still to be proven.

Solve : SATA Drive Not Being Recognized?

Answer» MOTHERBOARD is an Asus K8V SE Deluxe

BIOS recognizes the drive within the boot priority, however it's not really showing up anywhere else in the BIOS. I proceed to install Windows7 and I can't even get it to recognizes after installing the drivers from a jump drive. Win2003 drivers for this motherboard is what I read; acquired directly off ASUS's support page. The computer startup without entering the BIOS recognizes the SATA HDD to the point where I can enter it's menu to manipulate the array settings. Not sure what else to do at this point. My friends are informing me the SATA Drive should be popping up in the primary or secondary master/slave listing within the BIOS. Nothing there except the CD/DVD Drive installing windows. SATA Drive is plugged into the Primary SATA spot on the motherboard.

Any ideas on how to get my computer to recognize this thing?Quote from: jgilla on January 17, 2011, 10:41:27 AM
...BIOS recognizes the drive within the boot priority, however it's not really showing up anywhere else in the BIOS...
That should be good enough. Depending on the BIOS, it may not show on the 1st page. Sometimes they list only the non-SATA's unless you configure BIOS for "SATA IDE compatibility MODE".I would have thought so as well, but I just can't get windows to recognize a hard drive. Of course there isn't a SATA driver for win7 on this motherboard but after researching it said to use the win2003 sata drivers. Still have had no luck, and I just keep hitting a dead end on the OS install when it comes to look for which drive to install the HD as it doesn't see any.
I really would like to keep this SATA drive as it's brand new, but I'm almost to the point where I am willing to go back to an IDE. I've been through every menu and opiton in the BIOS and have not seen a place to modify the settings to SATA IDE Compatibility Mode.

Any thoughts? The SATA drivers are MBoard compliant...not the drive.
Use your MBoard driver CD or DLoad them from the site...Asus K8V SE Deluxe User Guide

p.4-23 (p.89) Onchip SATA Boot ROM [Enabled]
p.4-24 (p.90) Onboard Promise Controller [Disabled]
Operating Mode [Onboard IDE]Alright i applied those settings; disabled the promise controller. I made it through the forefront of the windows install again and attempted to install the SATA drivers (acquired off the asus support site), and again it will not identify a hard drive to install windows. Since there are no windows7 drivers for this motherboard I read that the 03 drivers will work. Not sure if that's the road block or not.
Feel so close yet so far away. And thanks for your help thusfar.SATA drivers are not necessary, unless Promise Controller is enabled. Promise is for RAID which you don't have.SATA drivers are NECCESSARY...at least 90% of the time...I'm pretty sure I'm going to have to install some type of driver, whatever that may be. So is there any reason why upon installing the SATA drivers, it continually comes back as no HDD found?
With the Promise Controller Disabled my startup is stating that there's no hard drive found whatsoever now, and it is no longer listed in the Boot Priority. Additionally it doesn't prompt me with the option to adjust the array setting by hitting ctrl + some other key I can't recall at the moment, upon startup.
Should I leave the promise controller disabled and/or what driver should I be attempting to load given my specifications?I'm confident this is what's wrong; The 4 SATA ports are not using the same controller.
Must Read the Manual

p.5-2 (p.108) Promise & Via CONTROLLERS
p.1-2 (p.16) Dual SERIAL ATA RAID

p.3-1 (p.25)
Need to find the correct ports for the Via controller
p.2-24 (p.46) You want the Via SATA ports shown in the picture. (the pair on top of one another, marked SATA1, SATA2)
p.2-25 (p.7) You do not want these, they are for the Promise RAID. (the pair side by side, marked PRI_SATA, SEC_SATA).

This would explain why it's not showing up in the BIOS where you expect it. It won't, if plugged into the Promise.
Motherboard even has an ATA RAID connector. I have an add-in PCI card in an old PIII Asus that is very similar, 1-ATA, 2-SATA.

Your Asus is a transitional motherboard, a very early SATA-150 & when large hard drives were under 160GB, so RAID was a viable option.Thank you. Your settings helped and your references to the specific areas in the manual. I went ahead and put a jumper on there to limit it down to 150mb/sec since you mentioned it's such dated board for SATA. Jumper worked and I'm moving forward.
Much appreciated.Quote from: jgilla on January 17, 2011, 09:39:08 PM

This has happened before, and let me explain how this happened. I decided to try my luck with what I thought was a bad stick of ram and when I INSERTED it, ta-da, black screen. Took it back out and still black screen.

I'm about to try and reseat my graphics card and SEE what that does.

I plan on upgrading the ram soon anyway, so I was just trying to make sure that its the ram sticks that are bad, not the motherboard.

Thanks in advance.DLoad and RUN MemTest...run it for at least an hour...
Any Errors at all and it's the RAM...Ok, so I reseated the graphics card and its all dandy.

Now I've uninstalled CCC and now its telling me theres no hardware to install CCC.
Despite the fact I'm using the graphics card hdmi input to look at this screen.

BTW: I've purchased a new power supply, 4 gigs of ram, and a new cpu fan to get rid of all my troubles once and for all.

I am currently trying to uninstall any and all ATI drivers and REINSTALL in hopes of ridding this problem.

Solve : GeForce GTS 250 Series graphics card?

Answer»

Hey guys. I got a GeForce GTS 250 Series GRAPHICS card a few months AGO. I was able to PLAY my games, LIKE Oblivion GOTY, on ultra high graphics just fine. Then I bought a new case for my computer, switched everything over, and now I can only play on low to very low graphics. I thought it might be a bug on my PC so I reinstalled Windows XP, wiping everything. This didn't fix the problem at all. Does ANYONE know what might be going on?Did you remember to reinstall all your drivers starting with the MBoard chipset drivers 2st ? ?
Yep, they are all installed. Like I said, this was a problem before I did the restore.

Solve : Laptop Overheating?

Answer»

Hi

I have a Toshiba Satellite P100-347 Laptop computer. I have just discovered that it is probably over-heating.

This only became apparent to me when I installed a Sims 3 Expansion PACK yesterday. It is the first time
I have used the computer for gaming since January.

From a clean boot, with a completely cool system, I found I could play comfortably at the proper frame rate
for almost half an HOUR - at which point the game lost virtually all of its responsiveness.

I felt the temperature of the palm-rest which was warm and then felt UNDER the machine and that was
absolutely ROASTING HOT.

The fans run. They run ALL the time the computer is on. I would say they "breathe" rather than "blow" hot air
out. They are steady, constant but perhaps not as vigorous as they should be.

My other laptop is ALSO having fan issues. It is a Lenovo which has started to rattle when they fans spin - but it
does mean I am aware that THOSE ones are not on 100% of the time.

I would like some advice about what I can do about fans in laptops.

I wonder if people would RECOMMEND cooling mats. I have seen a mat advertised that appears to contain
some heat-dispersing powder. I would prefer that to anything that needs a USB port because I never have
any free ports as it is.try blowing canned air through the openings to get any dust off the heatsink. if you know how to get to your cpu clean the fan and the heatsink with canned air also if you do get that far dont forget to clean off the old thermal grease and put new thermal grease on also if you think your fan is bad now would be the perfect time to change itDownload CPUID Hardware Monitor or Speedfan to know what's going up on laptop component and monitor hardware temps and fan before, during game. Laptops are not really made for gaming specially EXTENSIVE games. Please ask only one machine problem per thread. Quote from: laker_fan on October 29, 2010, 01:35:49 AM

Hi

I've never used canned air before but have found some online sold in quantities of 200ml
and 400ml. How much do you think I would need to have to blast through the dual vents
of TWO laptops.

There are ten inlets in each of the vents on the Lenovo, should I shoot some air into
each gap one after the other ?Quote

Do you realize that you can get these at any generic office supply store? You don't have to buy them online and wait for them to ship.

Two cans should be plenty, but it's always good to have extra. I would get three. They are very useful for freezing giant insects without leaving a spot.

Answer» HEY I hope I can get someone to help me on this I need to convert a external seagate HD from NTFS to FAT because the component does not work with NTFS can it be done.........thanks.............two-dogs You'll need a third party utility or you can reformat the drive.
There is nothing on it and I am TRYING to use Acronis to do a clean but said it will TAKE over 16 hours. So if I format the hd it will then be SET to fat? Your choice when you format it.
