I am using windows 2000 and just yesterday I noticed that many of my PROGRAMS have just dissapeared. Internet explorer has reverted to it older version and so had firefox. It seems that windows 2000 has rolled back to some previous state. What could be the reason and how could it be fixed?Has your COMPUTER been experiencing any problems lately? Has ANYONE ELSE used it that may have selected "Last known good configuration" when it booted up after a system error?

When using the "New Message" icon, when I hit to: or cc:, the list of names that COMES up from the contacts is willy-nilly first-last or last-first, that is, Billy Jones or Jones, Billy. Waste of time.
The contacts view in card or address, etc is consistent, but not when I USE the New Message, to: route.

How do I regularize the display names so that they are all lastname, firstname?If you check your contacts' properties...there should be a "Display" box...this is what is DISPLAYED when you receive or SEND an e-mail using the To: or CC: boxes.

You'll need to EDIT each contact in order for this to be consistent.

I need help figuring out an error that I'm getting on my pc, OS Windows 2000 professional Service Pack 4

the error that I'm getting is this one..." THERE IS NO DISK IN THE DRIVE PLEASE
INSERT A DISK INTO THE DRIVE \DEVICE\HARDDISK1\DR1 " them I have three options
CANCEL...TRY AGAIN...CONTINUE.

At first I try to do a CHKSDSK on my C drive by choosing safe mode prompt. according to the results there were no errors FOUND and everything CAME out good.
But when I reboot the pc the same error pop out and it reeboot it the pc. The pc allow me to go to safe mode with no problem but as soon as I reeboot it, the error comes out...now, I did some troubleshooting and found that if I disconnect the internet cable from my pc I get the error but when I press cancel the OS comes out
allowing me to go to windows 2000, as soon as I plug the cable in the computer the OS shuts down and start rebooting in a loop.

Any ideas??? I don't want to reinstalled windows 2000 again. I think there's must be a way to fix this problem without reinstalling windows 2000.

Is there a way to send my Outlook calendar to someone ELSE such that they can add to it?

In my FAMILY, I organize all the KIDS' appointments and extracurricular activities. I'd like to be able to enter all this info on a calendar page and EMAIL it to hubby's work AND have him able to add his own appointments to his copy of the calendar.

Import/Export does not seem to work. Are there other ideas?ill check tomorrow in work...

I need to run a batchfile every time my machine boots.
Problem is I run WINDOWS 2000 PRO with SEVERAL users and I
don't want to have to log on the system to make the BATCH file run.
(I tried to put it in the Startup directory)

Where should I put the batch file to make sure it always runs on a boot? Try putting it or a shorcut in the all users/startup folder.you can use the scheduler. SET it to run when the computer boots.If I put the .bat file in the Startup-directory I'll have to log in to run the file.
I want this batch-file to run if the machine boots unexpectedly..If you put it in the startup under a profile, yes. If you put it in all users/startup, no. If you don't want it this way, do as ghostdog suggested.You are right, off course.

Yesterday I fried my XP and have gone to an old Dell Optplex with Windows 2000 SP4. I downloaded Adobe Acrobat but I can't open PDF files either by opening them directly or by saving them to my desktop and then trying to open them.

I get the following error message: invalid character in the given encoding, line 2 position 2. I can open these PDF files on my husband's computer and I could open these same files on my XP before I blew it up. Why can't I open them on this computer?

I know the PDFs aren't corrupt because I can open them on another computer so it has to be something in this ONE that is keeping acrobat from opening them. Any idea what it could be?

Forget my last post - Foxit Reader is ACTUALLY working. The pdf files are opening and they look great.

the system is a; dell dimension 3000 that saw a bit of water two years ago. using a toothbrush i cleaned the bottom of the motherboard and put it a new battery. the harddrive was bad and so i am replaceing it. it came with xp but i want to use this w2000pro that i have. now the problem, when writing the key down i wrote it out of order.........or something. when installing it says it isn't the right key. after looking over my hand writing and trying other letters i am now trying to see if i can get the product key off of my cd. it that possible.

Is there any way to have a computer set to automatically boot to Windows 2000, but GET to 98 if needed? Where it says 'Time to display list of operating systems:' set a very low number like 1-2 seconds. Also make sure the default OS is set to 2000.You might need to experiment a bit to get the timing the way you want it. On my dual-boot Win 98SE/XP system, if I were to set the time at 1-2 seconds, I believe I would not even see that screen. The reason I say that is that with it set at 5 seconds, my current setting, the screen does not appear until 3 seconds are left. In other words, the first two seconds have elapsed before that screen is actually displayed. You wouldn't necessarily be able to see it, if you wanted 98 you could just tap the ARROW keys repeatedly until the selection screen appeared. But this of course comes down to personal taste. I guess that would work, as long as you get your timing right and don't let the moment pass at which you need to make the selection. Tapping an arrow key at that screen appears to stop the timer, which is the point you're making, right?

I just experimented and set the time down to only 1 second. I still saw the screen to select the OS.
Yeah that was my point... Actually I think any key will stop the timer but I just use the arrow keys.

Also, it might be BENEFICIAL to create a Windows 2000 bootable cd, since then you won't need to swap the 5 floppies.

That looks like it would be more of a hardware error, like a loose cable or a fried drive/controller. Let's see if we can get some more information first though.Have you added any new hardware recently ? ?
If so remove it both in Control Panel and physically and try again.
What language is this version of Win2K ? ?
Do you have the CD for repairs ? ?

I need to know the PROPER syntax for setting up a login script to LOG into a networked drive. When you REBOOT the computer, it comes up with the login screen for the specified drive (Q:\) and if you don't login, the info cannot be accessed and applications on that drive will not function. Should be SIMPLE to set up, but I can't find a blasted thing on it.

programming_patFormatting causes you to loose all data on your COMPUTERS hard disk drive

Check out www.bootdisk.com and find the Windows 2000 boot disk.

Put it onto a floppy, and then start the boot disk, and type:

format C: /s /q
for a QUICK format (just deletes the data)

format C: /s
does a complete format (Recommended)

You will need the Windows 2000 disk to reinstall Windows though, there is no way around this.

Hi someone...anyone!!

I have locked myself out of my computer and can't get in! I wanted to set up a password for privacy and someone gave me instructions ( as I'm a novice) but for XP and I'm 2000. Normally, I don't need a password to start my pc and now it's saying press ctrl, alt delete and demanding a password I don't have!

In error, I set up a NEW account and password and of course when I re-started none of my origianl desktop, documnets etc were there. So this person ( who shall remain nameless!) told me to remove the new account, which I did. Now of course I can't get in at all!!

What can I do?

SusieDid you enter a password or just leave it blank? If you entered one, the problem is you don't remember what it was?maybe I didn't explain properly! I don't even know what user name to enter as I've never had to enter one when I start up the pc since I've had it. It has only been since setting up the new account and then deleting it tonight that I'v been asked for a user name and password.

I hope that makes sense...Have you tried typing in a username & password? Yes, I've tried a few...like administrator and admin. The computer was second hand from a company called Hire Intelligence in London. I'll contact them on Monday to see if they have any IDEAS or passwords.

If they don't, then does anyone know what I should try next?I'm back in!! Got lucky with a password with some help from someone who works at the company who sold it to me.

SusieFor future refrence, if you are ever locked out of your computer, there are ways to get around it.

1) Boot with a NT bootdisk
2) type net user
3) Determine ADMINISTRATIVE Account
4) type net user [admin account] *
5) type a new password
6) confirm your password

7Zip will unpack RAR's.

I recently had a virus (trojan.VUNDO/infostealer). I've gotten rid of that but am now left with the problem of every time I turn on the computer I get a "RUNDLL" window with the following error message:

I have been busy working on an assignment for a while, and have been saving my word document on a memory pen with the file name "final assignment". I just opened the document and did about 2 hours work on it, making some big changes - I just went to HIT a final save before I finished for the evening, and suddenly my document sort of froze, and I noticed that the name of the document had renamed to something bizzare - a temporary file name (WR and numbers or something similar?!), and then I clicked on this box and my document vanished.....

.... and now it is knowhere to be found - not on my pen, not anywhere - not even the ORIGINAL SAVED document that I had been working on for a few weeks.

Is there anyone out there for whom this rings any bells, and who might know if I have a single hope of recovering this document - at least to the point of the last successful save - or to the point it was at 2 hours ago when I started working on it?? Is there a chance that my computer could've just erased it?

Here's hoping this makes sense to SOMEONE....

Go to Start / Search and use the star dot method...this will bring up every file on the machine with the same extension...

In your case it would be *.doc and hit Enter.

I have a problem that occurs with MS Excel 2003 Professional but not MS Excel 2000 Professional. I am on Windows XP.
The Macro runs without an error message, but instead of completing, it seems to be stuck in a loop where it keeps forcing blank lines to print.

This part of the macro inserts a row between subtotalled groups only. This WORKS in Excel 2000 but in Excel 2003 it will keep inserting lines FOREVER unless you BREAK out of the macro.

Windows 2000 loads and it comes to my actual USER. A popup WINDOW appears and says that apparently a DLL called SCESRV.DLL is missing from this weird location.
Im not sure how to run into Safe Mode. I tried hitting F5 and F8 and nothing.

EDIT: It also forces to restart after the popup window is given.DLoad Here

Copy it to a disk/flash RAM or something, BOOT YOUR computer in safe mode, and then copy the .dll to your c:\windows\system32 directory.

To get into Safe Mode you need to TAP F8 repeatedly as the machine starts and before Windows starts to load...

My computer goes to DOS at the command line and won't
start Windows 2000 Pro. At first what happened is a blue screen with a
message about how it was unable to access the drive ?
I used a bootdisk to see if I could load from there, and now I'm able
to access the C command line and that's it.

My PC is a Dell Latitude C610 w/ Windows 2K Pro installed.

Is there some way I can load Windows from DOS? I tried one command
and I received a message saying that it had bypassed the startup files.

It's also possible that a registry cleaner I used before restarting the computer
could have erased something important.

The exact error message is important.

Make sure the hard drive is securely fitted if it is removable from the outside of the computer.

Do you have a real Windows CD, a Dell restore CD or what to work with?

Do you see the Windows logo before the error message?

The boot disk is not going to be particularly helpful except we know that the machine will boot from the CD drive and it may have functional hardware.

I've also used Eusing and had no problem with it.

You might get an external enclosure for a 2.5 inch hard drive, put your laptop drive in it, and then connect it to your desktop computer, assuming you have USB on your desktop.

Hoping for some advice on the following problems;

Old PC; The bugger has gone BONKERS and everytime I left click to begin writing text it sets off on a never ending stream of hash symbols.

This happens in all applications, WORD, web browsers and Outlook Express. Any IDEA what's causing it and how I can fix the problem?

New Laptop; It's an IBM Thinkpad and has Windows XP already loaded, but I'm used to working in the Windows 98 environment of my old pc and would like to continue using that software or the nearest I can get to it.

I can raise OPTIONS on the current set up for something called 'Wordpad', but I can't locate any kind of Word Document programme.

Any ideas on how I can locate or install the friendly Win '98 software would be appreciated. My own installation discs for Win 98 went missing years ago.

I'm trying to load out Windows 2000 but cannot because this keeps coming up. Error Message: Windows could not START because the following file is missing or corrupt: \Winnt\System32\Config\System. I have went on Microsoft's site to find help but haven't really found anything that helps me resolve the issue. I changed the boot order to start from CD rom...(nothing)...I also created boot disks and tried to load 2000 that WAY...(new error message on disk 2: \halaacpi.dll error code is 7)...came up...can someone help...? Thanks...when did this happen what upgrades did you preform? hardware software? what was the last thing you did before this happened??

I've got an application that begins and ends its log rotation on Sunday at 00:00 and I need it to BEGIN and end on Monday at 00:00. Tech support for the application said that there was no way to change the log rotation settings and that I should change the date on the computer as a work around. EVERY time I change the date an auto UPDATER changes it BACK to the correct date. How do I turn that feature off?Got on the phone and found the answer...Control Panel, Admin. tools, Services, Windows Time, Properties and simply disable START Up type.

O and you probably need to manually stop the service status.

After reboot, makes it through the Windows SCREEN with the bar at the bottom, then hangs on the next light blue screen (not blue screen of death) when the user/login prompt pops up. It wont pop up, stuck on blue, and same thing in safe mode.
Was using Spybot S&D earlier and found a few problem files. Upon next boot this STARTED.
Cannot get into BIOS.
Could Spybot have deleted a wrong file essential to boot?

Or, can you just use System RestoreAnd where is system restore on Windows 2000?There is no system restore on W2kPro. (Nice catch GX1-Man).

Why can't you get into the BIOS / do you get an error message?

You may need to reinstall the OS.

Alan <>< EDITING system files does nothing to the BIOS, it is on its own and can not be alterted unless you do so. No there is no hack programs out there to do it. When starting up it and without my external drive CONNECTED it gives error message:
Personal Folders
The PATH specified for the file e:\sent020207.pst is not valid.
Some time AGO I EXPORTED my 'Sent Items' to e:\sent020207.pst so as to transfer them to another PC and that worked fine.
However, I do not want the e:\sent020207.pst file or the need to always have the external e: drive always plugged in.

There do you find any .pst pointing to E: in personal folders.

I need to be able to connect through broadband using WINDOWS 2000. Can any one direct me to instructions to do this? There does not SEEM to be an OPTION for direct connection to the internet only though dial-up or NETWORK. Are you trying connect through a network card? Which one? Or USB? Is this cable or DSL?

Well, I cannot drag or move icons on my desktop, can't copy and paste. I can't open task manager using the CTRL+ALT+DELETE method. Also, after a while my desktop disappears. I didn't really have anything downloaded. This problem just OCCURED. I have no clue what to do and I need help. I cant open my volume control either, because it says no active mixer devices available, but it USED to work fine.We will need a bit more info on your system specs ,OS and what happened prior to thos to prevent a long winded guessing game...Need...more...info...gasp

I thought it might help. Yes the system booted properly. I ran avg once, it found problems on svhost32.exe and others and got rid of them. Then I found out the database of viruses was outdated and downloaded the newer one and it found over 8000 threats in my temporary folder.Quote

Unfortunately, I wasn't very clear. I bought the computer in July 2006 from my work and the OS was already installed. I added some peripherals around the same time (DLINK broadband modem, mic, speakers, and external hard drive), and printer (HP All in one). I do not have any other disks than the OS and some of the SOFTWARE I was also given. I do not know enough about computers, motherboards/drivers to attempt to reinstall correctly.

I use the computer for the same THING(s) day in/out, I am used to what it does on a daily basis. I mentioned that I downloaded a program, can't remember what it was or where I downloaded it from, and have since deleted it, but this popup started around the same time I downloaded the program.I used WEBROOT and scanned for ad/spyware-none found. I have deleted/uninstalled this PCI Serial Port from the hardware profile, it keeps coming back. lol...like bad food.

Anyone else with a suggestion? For the last two weeks, every time I start my computer, it a "new hardware found" screen comes up and SAYS PCI Serial Port...I have not added ANY new hardware since I bought the computer, I did however download a program a couple of weeks ago, although I do not remember what it was. I have since removed the program.

I have tried to uninstall from the hardware profile, the message keeps COMING back.

just a quick query. i have a HITACHI pata 160 gb hard drive but when i formatted the drive in WINDOWS SETUP it only gives me 131 gb. does windows 2000 have a hard drive limitation within the formatting programme. as im losing around 30 gb

hello this MAY be a simple question for someone. we have a car diagnosis machine (WINDOWS 2000 based) in a workshop/ garage which we are trying to set up as wirleless (to many cables on workshop floor). the problem we have however is that when we turn on the machine, the diagnosis software loads up imediatley and the normal windows canot be accsessed to install the wireless drivers. we have tried f8 safe mode on starup but this only alows limited USAGE. if anyone knows how to get around this problem i would be very greatful . mwestRe-boot into safemode. Once in open a command prompt window. Type in msconfig and hit Enter...choose the Tab marked Startup and find the diagnostic program and un-check it.
Now when you re-boot it should boot to WIN2K where you can install your drivers for the wireless.
After you have configured the wireless and it is set up properly simply repeat the process above and check the diagnostic program to have it automatically load at startup again.

I have a computer that a frined of mine gave me that I plan to use solely for music downloads. I just reinstalled Windows 2000 Pro. The old OS was written over. I went through the install process and after initial start up, a screen COMES pops up and asks me to LOG ON TO WINDOWS. It asks for username and password. I entered exactly what I had input in the set up. However, when i click to continue, a message comes up of THE SYSTEM COULD NOT LOG YOU ON. MAKE SURE YOUR USERNAME AND DOMAIN ARE CORRECT, THEN TYPE YOUR PASSWORD AGAIN. LETTERS IN PASSWORDS MUST BE TYPED USING THE CORRECT CASE. MAKE SURE THAT CAPS LOCK IS NOT ACCIDENTALLY ON.

What does this mean domain? I am logging into the OS, not the internet. There is also a box that I have the option of clicking on asking me if I want to log on using dial up. I haven't EVEN gotten to Desktop yet...I can't even get into the computer until I get past this Log On point. BTW, when the Log On screen pops up. ADMINISTRATOR is in the USERNAME box.

I thought that maybe there is an old Network log on and psscode imbedded somewhere, but I installed this OS over the old OS.

How do I get past this? This computer is not on a Network. It is however, connected to a DSL modem/router.

Any ideas how to by pass this?

KeithWhen the login comes up, click the "more" or "advanced" button (not sure which). When the extended information comes up, change the thing that says "log onto this machine" or something and change it to "local" or "this machine."

The only option I have, is to log in with a username and password OR check the DIAL UP box and that is a dead end road all in itself.OK, you wrote over the old OS, so you don't have any fies on there you want to keep, right?

Try popping the Win 2000 disc in and instead of just doing the quick install, do a complete reformat. Completely wipe the disc of anything related to an OS. Then reinstall.

It seems obvious, but I've done it once or twice: make sure when you type in your name and password the first time (at install) capslock, ETC isn't on. and make sure capslock etc. aren't on when you try to log in.

recently had PROBS with w2000pro ( it freezes on blue loading ur settings screen), went to set up and was told it was c:\winnt\system32\config\systemced or something LIKE that. don't have any start up disc to repair it so i got xp pro and tried to format hdd .start boot up from cd rom and get set up and then it keeps quiting telling me it is shutting down my system for its own protection. error code 0x00000051 ( 0x00000003,0x00000003,0x00000000,0xe1101000) tried a few times to no avail, any help would be gr8 ppl thx. me=dunce!I don't think you had a Windows 2000 problem. More likely it is an ongoing hardware problem. Let's start with some basics.

Let's see where the problem is first. i'm on another cpu right now so how do i get memtest onto the other cpu(at diff location) and how does it work??It's a small dowload that will let you create a bootable floppy or CD. You just boot with the disk in there and it will start the test. Let it run for at least 30 minutes.

HELP!!!!!!!! I need to reinstall my windows 2000 PRO, and for the life of me it won't work. I have recieved the STOP 0X0000007B message, and it will not boot up. I tried safe mode, last known GOOD CONFIGURATION. I also tried REINSTALLING the whole program but it stops when it gets to windows set up. How can I uninstall and then reinstall Windows 2000 Pro? No need to uninstall, first make sure your cd rom drive is set to boot first, then just put the cd in before you boot up your computer then START your computer and fallow the setup. And here is information regarding your problem. And one more.

Hello, yesterday my desktop which runs Windows 2000 froze for some reason. I didn't download anything or visit any weird websites. So I restarted the computer. The defult setting is in Adminstrator mode.

After the Windows 2000 logo dissapears and the icons begin loading on the desktop, the computer freezes. I can still move my mouse cursor but cannot access/open any program?

I rebooted in safe mode. In this mode I can access all the programs, so I ran Spybot and Ad-Aware just in case something bad downloaded, it was clean.

This I ran Norton registry cleaner and it fixed whatever needed to be fixed.

I rebooted to normal mode, but still the same problem, none of my programs are able to open? What could be CAUSING this?

I tried to do a repair install as suggested but I ran into problems when it asked me for a video driver file I did not have to install. So I just clicked "cancel". Then setup asked me for some "AGP bus filter" file, I did not have that either, so I clicked cancel so the installation continued.

But the problem is, the installation does not complete, it just goes in a CYCLE meaning the computer reboots, its goes to setup, it asks me for the files I don't have again and keeps on doing that without ever completing the installation.

So, I bit the bullet and just did a fresh install. The fresh install worked. It asked me top setup another admin profile, I did not put a password.

Here is the problem, and I hope you folks can help me:

All of my files, favorite places from IE and Mozilla, programs are still intact on drive C

My old admin profile is still in the c:/documents and settings folder which has my settings before my computer became screwed up. My desktop icons, my favorite places, all programs I use are this profile.

Is there anyway I can LOG into my old admin profile so I can have access to the above things I mentioned. I tried copying all of the files and folder from my old admin profile and pasting them into the new admin folder, but that did not work.

My new admin profile has nothing. I cannot access any of my programs from Windows Explorer and there is no need for me to REINSTALL all the programs I use because they are still on drive C:

I had my Windows 2000 laptop on standby, and turned it back on. It was running fine, except the LCD was off. I unplugged the laptop, and then restarted it. The computer now freezes when I try to start it. You can see in the picture that it freezes before I can press [F8] to select Safe Mode.
I can start the Recovery Console via the Win 2K setup CD, and can see all of my FILES, so I think there is a way to fix the OS without LOSING data, but I do not have an Emergency Repair Disk, and setup (from the Win 2000 CD) cannot find Windows to repair it.
Based on where Windows freezes, what is the problem? Can I fix Windows by replacing a certain file?

Edit: I booted FreeDos, replaced C:\WINNT\System32\config\system with system.alt, and it booted fine. Test your hard drive.I ran chkdsk from the Recovery Console, and it said it fixed "one or more errors." I found that the corrupted file is C:\WINNT\System32\config\system. So I replaced that file with one that was in WINNT\recovery from another computer. Now Win 2K gives a BSoD when loading, and the Recovery Console wants an ADMINISTRATOR's password!!! How can I find the password, since I have tried all mine and they don't work? Are the passwords stored in that system file?Usually the default for the admin password is blank. Have you tried not using a password?

I goofed and INSTALLED my program under administrator. How do I give access to these programs to ANOTHER USER, so I don't have to be logged in as administrator all the time. I created a user with Administrator rights and I still don't have access to the program, UNLESS logged on as administrator.

Hi, I a new at messing with computers. I have a systemax that is running Windows ME. It has a Micro STAR Mother board with AMD K7 CPU. I was wondering, if or can, windows 2000 be run as a clean boot over the windows ME?

One other thought is if I remove windows ME, would I be able to then install the Windows 2000 program?

Last Night my brother was CLEANING up my harddrive MEMORY and when he went to empty the recycle bin, the whole computer started to lag and the harddrive started to make a scratching noise. After a while, I restarted, and windows wouldn't start. I had a error message that I am missing the file WINNT/SYSTEM32/Drivers/isapnp.sys, and that I need to repair using the Windows 2000 CD.

He told me he didn't touch the system32 folder, in fact, he didnt even go into the WINNT folder. He only cleaned up some TEMP files. Now our computer won't load windows, and won't let me repair or format my C drive. THe same scratching noise starts to appear whenever it loads my windows 2000 and the windows 2000 CD. Can anyone help me with this problem?It's NEVER a good sign when your HD starts to make noise. It usually means your HD is on its way to RIP. Hope you have all your data backed up.

B.I wouldn't try starting the computer and go ahead and get yourself another hard drive. Then place the new hard drive into your computer, load up WinXP or your other favorite operating system. When you hook up the new computer, make sure you set it up for Primary Master and the other harddrive for anything else (Primary Slave, Secondary master & secondary Slave). Then you could go ahead and grab all the files you need to regardless of if you backed it up or not.

Let me know if this helps you out. But yes, as bayern said.. the hard drive coincidentally is going bad and you know it due to that scratching.dang thats what I'm most afraid of. But my computer had no problems till last night when this all happened. the scratching noises came from nowhereThat's how things in this world are made they all have a life span. Everything crashes at one point. It was just your harddrives time to go.Before you do this though, make absolute sure that it really was your hard drive ;-) It would be really sad if you GOT rid of a perfectly good hard drive just to find that a wire was hitting the fan or something.

If it wasn't for that scratching I would say your brother unintentionally did something, but if the scratching came with it then yep, that's the sad way of life. Maybe as it was working on deleting, a part of it didn't function correctly.
The 2 incidents could very well be related or could be a coincidence...DLoad and run the diagnostics from the HDD manuf. site.

If it is the HDD making noise then the more you use it the closer you get to losing all your data.

Hey everyone, having a problem with my email @ work. I just got it set up, and Im having troubles adding attachments. I can add them, and they seem to be there, but when my CLIENTS receive their email, the attachment is no where to be seen. Some people get them, and some dont. I have gone over every pull down and tab in microsoft, but cant find anything.... its probably something minor and small, but I simply cannot find it. Anyone who can help WOULD be GREAT!!!!!!

Simple fix. Don't send mail in Rich Text. For some reason some corporate servers strip attachments from these. Had a Web link for this, if I find it I will post. Hope it helps, good luck.

I get a blue screen when I start up my laptop (IBM) with MS Windows 2000. The message tells me to run CHKDSK /F but I cannot get to the screen to enter the command. I can't even run it in safe mode. Can anyone help?

No, I cannot access Windows. The blue screen appears as it tries to start Windows. I can get to the Windows screen where it shows the status of the startup and half way through I get the blue screen. Hope that MAKES sense.Looks like you NEED to purchase a copy of Windows, whatever variety you want, or borrow an appropriate one to do the chkdsk with.

My wife has an IBM thinkpad from work, she brought it home to USE here at the house where we have a wireless network, the Thinkpad could not find the network, both our home computers are XP. We tried to add the Thinkpad to our workgroup and unchecked the DOMAIN box now she cannot log on to the COMPUTER becasue it does not give the option to enter a domain at the logon screen and it will not log on with her normal log on? Can anyone tell us how we can get the domain choice back on the log in screen or is she STUCK waiting until after the holidays to take the machine back to the office?I think you will have to wait and have the IT people set it back up again.

I used windows updates to update the notebook as best i could. My son was useing it just fine, then when he was useing windows media player to copy some CD's, he said that the not book shut down due to and error. Now when I turn it on it starts to do just fine then it stops on a blue screen and reads STOP 0x0000007B (0x8204DD90, 0x00000000,0x00000000)
INACCESSIBLE BOOT DRIVE. I have turned off, unplugged and remove battery, and then restarted and I still get the same thing.
Also it will not go into safe mode it just brings me back to this same blue screen.
Can some one please help me?

Make sure the hard drive is snugly in place.

Did you contact the seller, if this was a recent purchase?Start the notebook / put your ear to the case and see if you can hear the hard drive spinning. It will be a muted whine of sorts.

Miss MarieI would go to Best Buy and get a real copy of WIndows XP Home for $55 this WEEK (ends Sunday). Then I would find a geeky friend who could replace that hard drive and get that installed.

I don't think those other products will help at all. I think you have a hardware problem that needs to be fixed first.

There are computer shops that can do this if you don't know anyone up to the task.

Sometimes bargains are not bargains. A new low end laptop can be had for $500. A new one from Dell not much more. You get a warranty and some support.

The Windows 2000 CD can be used for the install of XP or possibly it can be installed on that machine, depending on what it says on it.Thank you all so much, the note book is on it's way back to the seller, and I am headed out to get the proper back up stuff I need to take care of all of our notebooks mine says that it is already in my notebook, but I have backed it up on dvds.

You can get all KINDS of boot disks at www.bootdisk.com, but that will not help. Do you have a real Windows CD? That will be the solution.Yes I do have the original CD for win 2000.When the computer starts up I hit f8 and or delete to run setup but I can't get to the screen to boot from CD.
ThanksF8 is not related to the problem. The solution is that you need to set the computer to boot from the CDROM first. This is done in the BIOS boot order. Just make sure that the CD is HIGHER in priority than the hard drive.To Boot To The Floppy Drive
On most Motherboards, you click DEL to get into the BIOS settings. When the computer s booting up it will say (Press DEL to Enter Setup) <<
