hi, in a school DOCUMENT o mine there is a text that says "Last UPDATED 15 May 2006" on the footer of every page, how can i REMOVE it thanksAre you asking how to edit the footer?
If yes, DOUBLE click the footer and you should be able to edit it.

I recently purchased Quickbooks Premier Industry Edition 2008 and attempted to install it to my computer. Everytime I try to install it, I see the Quickbooks 2008 page then it FREEZES up. I am still able to do other things on my computer, but they work very slowly. My computer then requires a hard REBOOT. I can install other items. Her are my computer specs:
WIndows XP SP2
1 GB RAM
2.4GHz Pentium IVWhen is the last time you did regular maintenence on that machine ? ?
Run diskclean, defrag and chkdsk /r on it...
How much free space is on that drive ?

To be honest there are alot of things that could cause this ISSUE so post lots more info on the machine any NEW hardware or software installed and someone will be along in a bit...

Hi all

I'm on windows XP sp2. I have been running Pidgin as an IM due to the fact that it can interface with multiple IM clients. Yesterday I downloaded and installed MSN as it has a few more functions that I can use with my msn mates. After this I noticed that when I ran Pidgin the converstation windows KEPT crashing. I don't run them both at the same time. Also when I run Avant Browser it seems to freeze the CONVO windows, it didn't before I downloaded msn.

Is this a conflict, and if so, why, and how do I FIX it?

To see if there is a conflict, uninstall MSN and see what happens.
(note: try reinstalling Pidgin after uninstalling MSN if the previous didn't WORK)

This problem occured out of total randomness. I just open my laptop one day, and on the connections icon it says :Connection Unknown Dependancy service or group failed to start


Therefore I'm not able to connect to any wireless internet connections, and suddenly, I can't diagnose the problem, it won't even let me do it manually.

With all the utility and security software available and with so many different software "gurus" out there, it is easy to be confused about what software I should have INSTALLED on my PC.  I am looking for a list of recommended types (not brands) of utility and security software that every PC owner should have installed.  For instance... REGISTER cleaner, Disk Cleaner, Anti-spyware, etc.  Has anyone ever seen such a recommended list?

Registry cleaners are dangerous. If you aren't intimately familiar with the the registry then it is BEST to leave them alone.

One reliable antivirus.
One reliable firewall
Disk cleaner - CCleaner Slim (No Toolbar)  -  Also has a fairly safe registry cleaner. Always use the backup feature in CCleaner when cleaning the registry.
Antispyware - There are many good ones. All found HERE are safe.

I've got 2 users that always receive mail from their manager as plain text. The rest of the team receive the same mail without any issues.

Calendar appointments and eshot images are the worst as they are the most common emails that are sent.

Does anyone KNOW why this is???

Things I've tried already;

Emails containing embedded pictures from other people seem ok. Outlook is already set to automatically download embedded images.

The rest of the team are receiving the same emails from the same manager without any issues at all.

I've tried sending the same email directly to the affected people (without using the CONTACTS group the manager has created and from the manager’s machine) and I get the same results.

I’ve tried sending the same email directly from my machine to them and it arrives ok.

Should I be looking at settings on the manager’s machine?? Or do you guys think that it a local issue on the team members machine?

I've also check and either team member has rule set in outlook to do anything with thier manager's emails.

I've just emailed a copy of an eshot to the manager and asked her to forward it on her team, they are REPORTING that it has ARRIVED ok!!??!! how odd!!!

please HELP as I'm lost...

having looked in to it a bit more, if the manager uses a distribution group for her team, the same 2 users as before get the email's in plain text with any embedded images sent as attchments.

If however she sends the same email to just them (without using the distribution group) it works fine.

I've deleted the distribution group and re-created it but it hasn't made any difference.

anyone heard of anything like this before??

I have this problem when I try to open up more than one program ,especially roxio copy disk and dvd  player and my external drive. Im able to open others while these have a hour glass over them if I try to close them I end up using cntrl alt del to SHUT it down

When she OPEN pc,"Boot from CD,pls insert a system disk " error occur.
So she insert a window cd to Cd drive and window is  setting  up the files.
And then the technical information message occur with  the blue screen
"Check For virus and newly installed hard drive and hard drive
controller and Run Check disk command"
Before this case ,someone switch the power  off DIRECTLY without shut down the computer.
what should i do any more?

I'm sure many people have this problem ALREADY: LOADS of pictures, mostly with that generic name created from the camera or mass downloaded from the web with horrible naming.

I'm looking for a way to arrange the pictures kinda automatically. Let me explain what I have in mind:

• You can tag the pictures by categories like : Place, Occasion, Year, ....
• You can mark people in the pictures
• You can let your "library" be organized by e.g &LT;Occasion>\<Year>\<Place> - <Time>.<Filetype> and that automatically. Just like an MP3 library (we all know the concept).

what software that can edit a music? because i want to seperate the VOICE from its background music. i am currently using audacity. its slightly remove the voice from the music. when i play it to my dvd player, it works... but unfortunately, when i try to play it to my cousin's party (i paly it with different dvd player), the voice still there.

what is the better software that can totally remove the voice and it sounds like a minus one/videoke.

Prompted by another Forum post I checked and downloaded the latest Java version - Version 6 Update 5.

I then checked Add or Remove programs and there listed were what appeared to be ten Java programs  -
  J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 updates 6, 8, 10.
  Java 2
  Java DB 10.3.1.4
  Java (TM) 6 updates 2, 3, 5
  Java (TM) Development Kit 6 updates 5, 1.

Can I remove all updates  prior to the latest (Update 5) or do I need to keep all these? 
Also, what is "Runtime Environment" and "Development Kit" in these contexts?

Help/explanations appreciated.Further to my post - Java does not appear in the "All Programs" list on the start page.  Is there some reason for this?

ThanksKeep the top one on the list...you can safely remove the rest using Add/Remove.
The Developer kit is DLoaded by mistake by many users because java doesn't make it CLEAR what to DLoad for updates...

I thought that updates to programs just made changes to the original - am I right in thinking that these Java updates are complete new versions of the original?

For some reason I cannot open Adobe flash, It downloaded to my hardrive but will not open? I went to the support website but nothing works? I  removed the old adobe from add and remove, and downloaded the new version. I bought a 780i mobo from EVGA and when I installed the drivers, I cannot use my DVD drives. EVGA said it was because of the Nvidia drivers and they said I had to use the standard drivers from Microsoft. I was wondering how to uninstall the Nvidia drivers and install the XP ones. That is the one point where EVGA has not helped me. Apparently this is a common problem on the 780i.

I had same prob... but i kept the nVidea drivers due to the updates are way more FREQUENT and bug free.

I updated my dvd driver. check for the latest 780i version then go on your dvd MANUFACTURERS website and get its latest and read on their forum if others are having probs.

You may have to use an older driver version of the 780i for your dvd driver to be compatible.

What updates are you talking about? I have not received any updates. My drivers for the 780i are the ones that came with the mobo.I updated the firmware on both of the drives but they still do not show up in the Safely Remove Hardware icon/box.installing the drivers that come with the cd before checking the manufacturers website is not the thing that you want to do...The SATA drivers were for the mobo, not the drives. As ar as I know the drivers on the CD and the ones on Nvida's are the same so it doesn't matter. I just want to know how I can install the micrsoft drivers over them so I can use the drives without having a BSOD.so you just want the generic driver?yeah, so I can use my drives. Why won't my drive firmware flash correctly?

Troubleshooting firmware update problems:

       1. The firmware utility returns an error when I try to update:

    a.Possible software conflict. Reboot in safe mode and try to flash.

    b. Possible DMA issue

    - Disable DMA in your system. Enable DMA after flashing the firmware.

    - For drives with a DMA jumper (SEE your user manual for jumper locations) install the jumper to force the drive into Multiword DMA mode. Remove the jumper after successfully running the flash utility for your drive.

    c. Possible ASPI issue. ASPI software may be missing or corrupted.

            2.  The drive will not write a CD after I update the firmware.

Ok, we just download a movie, we only can run the movie only if using VLC Player.Why?
If i TRY with another player (divx, windows media player, power dvd, real one) it will prompt the player cannot open this type of FILE.

Hello there, I'm trying to improve performance of my computer by disabling unnecessary start-up programs.

Is AGRSMMSG a necessary program to start with Windows?  Sysinfo.org doesn't have much information regarding it -- only that it has to do with some type of modem...

I have a HP Media CENTER PC m1180n, running Windows Media Center Edition 2005.  I'm connected to the internet via the ethernet PORT in the BACK of the tower.  If I disable AGRSMMSG, will it affect my internet?

Research shows AGRSMMSG as a driver program for a LUCENT modem. Where did you find this entry, in services or msconfig?

I would disable (not delete) the entry and see how the system responds. Unless you use dial-up service for the internet, it's doubtful you need AGRSMMSG at startup.

Autocomplete works in my Outlook 2003 but does not carry over to subsequent sessions i.e when I log off and BACK on to my system, I lose all my autocomplete data.  In fact when i log off it totally clears out the C:\Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook directory.  It their a policy that CONTROLS this?Autocomplete for what, email addresses?the autocomplete for the email addresses..  NK2 file

I've got an old Dell that had Windows 98 SE (I loved that version).  Now I have a new laptop with Vista (yuch!, see why I loved 98!).  Anyway, I needed to transfer all of my grandbaby pics and other photos from the old computer to the new but Windows transfer doesn't work on 98..... Hence, I upgraded the Dell to Windows 2000... and promptly forgot the darn password.. I've written lists of possible passwords and tried everyone twice but nothing WORKS under either the user or the administrator.   So, now I can't get into my old computer to view any files, much less transfer them to the new laptop.   I've looked at the recovery TIPS but they all seem to rely on an internet connection to crack the password once you've used their boot disk. 

How can I get into that computer?  I am not that savy on a computer, I understand how to turn one on and run the basics to get my job done, that's about it.

I'm taking a web design class, and so far we are at flash. Well since i wanna go overboard with my flash PROJECT, could someone find out how to script the stop button so it can stop ALL actions, tween and sub-tween (tween within a tween) in a grouped object.

well i have a SAMPLE i made so here is the tween

A BUS with two wheels, the wheels are a movie clip symbol (5 frames - rotate Counter-Clock-Wise; 1 time), while the bus is tweened to go one end of the stage to the other end.

Well my problem is that, i have two BUTTONS on the stage: Play and Stop

I think the type of script is Action Script 2

This is the Play script

on (release) {play();

}

This is the Stop script

on (release) {stop();

}

When i go TEST movie (Ctrl + Enter) and I press Stop, it only stops the bus tween not the "Wheel" Movie Clip

How can I make it so when I press Stop, all the actions stop.

I have this PROBLEM with my XP, some registry file is damaged or something and I wanted to use the XP CD to repair the OS. I wen't to the BIOS Setup and changed the boot sequence so the computer BOOTS from the CDROM. My problem is, it isn't booting from the CDROM, it skips to the HD, at least I think it does, because the XP setup doesn't show up. I don't know what I am doing wrong here, so I am asking you to help me with this. My BIOS is a Phoenix, if that helps.

Have you tried the disc on another computer?Did you save changes when you exited setup?
Can you hear the disk spinning in the drive?
If you have 2 CD drives make SURE you put the disk in the master drive.
Also the disk could be scratched . Have tried cleaning it?Silly me, I was using the slave drive. Thanks for the help!

After upgrading my laptop with one 512MB of RAM on one of the memroy SLOTS,after using it for like 3HRS the laptop shows a blue screen of death and SHUTS down.But the Ram is exactly of the same TYPE with the one previously there.I need a SOLUTION this pls.Do you have the one you replaced handy / tried putting that one back in / did you mix the two?

I am trying to set up properly a music library on WMP11 for a meditation centre. We have about 400 cds and many of them are not commercial cds that we can find on the Web. I have many questions about Windows Media Player and can't find all the answers in the Help Menu. Here are just a few:

1. I created a specific file on a external hardrive of the laptop I am using to create this music library. When I extract a cd, it often show "unknow artist, album" etc. With track 1, 2 etc. If I write by hand the info in the library of WMP it doesn't update the info on the portable hardrive. Same with the CD cover that I paste in the library. All these informations are in the library but If I let say I have to change the COMPUTER and transfer all the information from the external hardrive to the new computer, all that information will be lost. What should I do to organise as best as possible the data so I don't loose it all the time and I don't have to start all over?

2.In the Option menu of the music library, there are 2 lines I can't figure out. Something like (I am translating from my French version) "Name musical files according to the parameters of extraction" and the other one "sort out the music in the file of extraction according to the parameters of extraction". Is it BETTER to clic on these or not? What do they really do?

I will have more questions, but this is a start and a first for me on a forum!

EricIf your burnt CDs are actual copies of comercial CDs you should look into iRiver's software, It has a huge database of comercial CDs and it looks at track lenght and number of tracks and GIVES you a list of matches to your CD. then it will name them all for you (Artist, Track no., Song, Album) it saved me HOURS of inputting music data manually. so try www.iriver.com or DL it from another source.

I forget what company has the database but iriver bought rights to it. Check out their website.
I haven't used WMP much for ripping music but I do believe WMP should save track information in the INDIVIDUAL music files. The files names might still be called unknown artist - unknown title but the info should be in the tags. When you load the music on the other computer doesn't the track titles show up?
What format are you ripping the music in?

Before I did the SYSTEM restore on my computer all my music had the type of file they are in the name. For example, when I went into my music FOLDER a song would be CALL  blahblah.mp3 or .wma. Now its just the name and no file extension, how do I get it back to the way it was.You didn't mention what Windows you're using so I will assume XP.
Open any folder.
Select Tools --> Folder Options.
Select the View tab.
Find where it says "Hide extensions for known file TYPES" and uncheck the check box NEXT to it.

I got my Picture It 2000 to finaly load, but when in the program and you search for pictures in files. The .jpg are not in the list to read. If you click on the help tab and look up what it can and not read. .jpg is the second on the list to read and some others are not in it as well to read them. ?

Now I had to remove my IE7 untill I got this loaded cause this program has a IE 5.0 and I can up date after that. I have tryed to install 3 times but the same thing happens. My computer reads them.  So any help would be great. Thanks.

Do you have a Hotmail email account?
Are you trying to send an email to a Hotmail account?Looks like you're trying to use Hotmail with Outlook as a POP3 email account. Unfortunately, this can't be done WITHOUT subscribing to that service, which is why it's telling you that you need to register.

Your SECOND option is to download and INSTALL Windows LIVE Mail.

I have a new Dell computer running Vista Home Premium with a Realtek High Definition Audio sound card. I USED software called LP RECORDER on my OLD XP system which allowed me to record sounds played through my sound card (example: streaming audio). I've upgraded LP Recorder to the Vista compatible version but I am only able to record audio through the Line Input.

Dell support says it's the way Vista is supposed to work put the software company says probably the sound card should be upgraded.

Can anyone offer any suggestions?

I need help right now. I use Windows XP SP2. I use IZArc archiver. However, for the last few days, IZArc has being playing stupid by closing whenever it likes and not appearing on the screen while it appears in the task bar. It is also related to a problem I had with Windows Explorer. Right now I'm TRYING to install IkonBoard and FFDB, but had no LUCK since this application keeps closing whenever I'm doing something with it!!

I am totally CLUELESS. I am stumped. I'm confused. 

Does anyone know why this is happening and how to resolve??

Have your XP CD handy as it will ask for it.
Let it finish and re-boot.

Also you may want to checkout 7Zip which i believe will handle arc files.
Sounds like IZArc makes some file associations that Explorer doesn't like or it's poorly written.

p.s. This issue is mentioned more than once on their Forums...Thanks patio for the suggestion. I'll reinstall IZArc and if that doesn't work, I'll try another compression utility.OK, just reinstalled IZArc. I'll see what happens when I unzip a ZIP folder...Hooray! It worked! I can use IZArc without Windows Explorer crashing.

I recommend you to type something related to what you are looking for and wait for Google to do the job.  There's Winstyle & Windowblinds but they're not FREE (although you can EVALUATE them) but I FOUND them quite difficult & user-unfriendly (and I've used reshacker to customize most things!).

Then I found out about UXpatcher which enables you to use themes created by other people with Winstyle (& OTHERS) without actually buying the software.

You will find thousands of style themes online, especially here.

My main drive is labeled E instead of C. This doesn't give me any trouble except in the Hoyle Card Games software. I was using the 2004 version, and the FaceCreator PART of the software didn't work - a minor problem, everything else was fine. I recently purchased the 2005 version, hoping it would fix that. Unfortunately things have gone from bad to worse.

I found with the new version, not only did the FaceCreator still not work, but other things that worked fine with the old version were buggy - the most mysterious being it won't display the correct background in Hearts - any other game is fine, but whenever I started the Hearts game, it showed a plain green background, even though when I went to change it, it would show a different background in the list, as though it really were using the background I told it to use last. I have to click on a different background, click apply, then click the background I really want, and click ok.

I looked at the game forums at Encore (the publisher of the cd) to fix the FaceCreator  and there was a section that had a workaround for those without a c drive. It said to set up a folder on the main drive, copy the FaceCreator files in it, then go to a COMMAND box and type SUBST C: E:\FaceCreator, start the game and it should work. Well, it doesn't. I have posted to that forum ASKING for help and their suggestion was to reformat my computer to have a c drive.

I finally decided to give the new version to somebody with a c drive and REINSTALL the old version, and when I try that I get an error message that SAYS Error 1327.Invalid Drive: C:\. I'm assuming this has to do with the SUBST command, and I don't know how to reverse it, and the Encore forum didn't know either.

The computer was given to me by my brother-in-law, and it was set up by his son-in-law. I have asked this question of both of them and they both deny any knowledge of how or why the computer was set up this way. I use Windows XP Pro.

So my question is, hoping that I can reverse the action that keeps me from reinstalling my old game, can I undo the SUBST command and how? I know enough about computers to follow directions when someone says "open a command window and type such and such," but I'm not a geek so step-by-step directions are best. Alternatively, is there another way to change the e drive to a c drive without reformatting the entire computer? Possibly your physical hard drive has been partitioned into E and other assigned drive partitions (with their assigned letters). ps:I guess if you had an older SYSTEM,say a P-2 OR 3, would it not run faster with an old OS such as 98? Just curious..Sure, older systems will run better with an older OS, such as Win 98 or Win 98SE.  So, it's still useful to people using older computers.  On the downside, it's no longer supported by Microsoft, older OS are less secure than newer versions of Windows, and less SOFTWARE can be found that supports these older OS, to mention a few points.

Edit: On the other hand, I have a 2003 version of Peachtree accounting which does not play WELL with my Win XP system since updating Internet Explorer to version 7.  Since I still have Win 98SE on this machine in a dual-boot configuration, I could install Peachtree under Win 98SE and run it without problems.I am using w98se not because I like it but because I have to. I need it for an old DOS version to program radio electronics. The electronics are cutting edge made by Yeasu but they never updated their software. I use it on an old laptop with a partitionhed hd
with windows xp pro in the second partition. Need it on a laptop as on occassion need to go to the 14000foot level on Mauna Kea and the 9000 foot level on MAUN Kea to progrram repeaters and controlers for emergency radio net work.

I have just started playing around with MS Virtual PC 2007.  It seems like a COOL way to have other OS's "on HAND" without having to do a true install.

I installed Win98 on one virtual machine, but had TROUBLE updating it through Windows Update. The info on the error indicated that it may be a firewall setting.  The PC I am running VPC on only uses Windows Firewall, but is connected to an NAT router. I tried adding VPC to the WF exceptions, but that did not help.

Any ideas? 

What kind of security issues does one have to worry about while on the net on a VPC session?  Or is that the beauty of it, that it is self contained?

I would like to have a COMLETELY updated install of Win98 on a virtual machine just for old times sake, and a lightweight Linux distro such as Xubuntu.

I had iTunes working fine in my laptop, and then I decided to save space and screwed everything up. I have two hard drives, one in which has nothing at all on it. So I decided to move my music folder to that hard drive and just use that for music. The next time I tried to click on itunes it says "the folder itunes cannot be found or created and is required. the default location for this folder is inside the music folder." I've tried uninstalling and installing itunes but nothing works. I've tried moving my music folder back to where it was, with the rest of the default folders that say picture and documents and video but either I'm not doing it right or I can't. I can't get itunes to work to save my life. Any IDEAS? thanks

However, the default location for your music folder should be C:\Documents and Settings\\My Documents\My Music.

Navigate to My Computer > C:\ (the HD where itunes is installed) > Documents and settings > *your name* > My Documents.

Inside My Documents, you should have a 'My Music' folder (but I think this is the one you moved). If it's not there, create one (called 'my music'). Inside that folder, creat another folder called 'itunes'.

This may atleast let you get into itunes to change the location of your music library.
