I backed up my computer files with Nero 7 but cant open files. FILE types are NBA files what ever that means. Get the dreaded windows error ( cant open this file, needs to know what created it). well I know nero created it but it GIVES me an error message  SAYING the file is corruped or FORMAT is not supported. Any ideas.Have you tried opening up Nero's BackitUp and open the files from there ? ?

Or post up on ebay and sell it there... I have sold a few tools through ebay before that I programmed up and compiled. Business was slow on ebay ( mainly because people only found it by accident or it was only word of mouth that passed on to buy the software. ) My tool was one that migrated Outlook Express Contacts etc to MS Office Outlook 2000 years ago. I found an open source project and built on my features to make it more advanced and then compiled and sold about 7 copies of it for $20 a whack.... With all the time put into it, I didnt really make much money, and other programmers CREATED and marketed a better version than mine which had more bells and WHISTLES so I tombstoned my project.

The easiest way to sell it would be to go through one of the above or find another that will represent you, but be careful that you dont get locked into any royalty contracts or if your software hits it bigtime, you may have to pay out a royalty to a smaller identity that got you to where you are at. A friend of mines uncle wrote a game for Apogee back in the early 1990's and got TIED into a painful contract that they got a pretty good piece of the pie and he got a smidgen of it and made a few thousand dollars while they made FAR more. When I try to copy/paste a large (multiple rows) table in a Word 2007 document, it TAKES up approximately 5 pages. That's okay with me. The problem is that the table seems to SHIFT on every other page. The margins show the same on every page (1") and I have the table set to be CENTERED. I select the entire table and then select the centered formatting function. However, it moves to the right on the first page, then it's shifted to the left on the SECOND page, then back over to the right on the third page, then shifted again to the left on the 4th page and so on and so forth. Why is it not centered on every page?Where are you copying the table from, a source outside of Word?

 The McAfee I have is part of a package provided through my employer. It's supposed to update every day pretty much. When the yellow shield shows up on the icon in my task bar, I click on it and select update.The yellow shield goes away and the place where it says the last update has the current DATE. When I click on "about", I get this window that will show the virus definitions date and it never changes! It's stuck at 5-9-2008 which is the install date. It also has a "DAT" date of 6-9-08
I'm not having PROBLEMS with my machine, but I want to know if it's updating or not.

 I just looked and there is a list. McAffee FRAMEWORK Services is listed in exceptions. there is a column for GROUP policy, it says no. I see this has been read 56 times. Does anyone use McAfee? And do you check your updates?  Do your Dat dates and Virus definition dates Stay current?

Hello my computer recently crashed (I don't know if that's what its called) but anyway, I had to redo it.  I am not a computer expert by any means--please do not pull your hair out while reading my POST!    When I redid it (gave me MESSAGE that I would have to reinstall all software that did not come w/ puter.  THANKS to a wonderful computer guy I was able to find all my pics, music etc. in a file called backup (duh, LOL!).  So I went to reinstall microsoft office 2007 and it tells me that it cannot find a PREVIOUS version to update.  Crap!  Where do I find this?  Thanks in advance for any help-which I know is something you could all do in your sleep!  APPARENTLY, you have an Upgrade edition Office 2007 CD, not a full version.  Upgrade versions cost less than full versions.  Upgrade versions, as the term implies, upgrade a previous version of Office to Office 2007.  So, you must have had an older version of Office before you originally installed Office 2007 via your Upgrade Office disk.

You'll need to have a previous version of Office installed, or at least have the CD for a previous version, before you can install Office 2007 from your Upgrade disk.  Hi Soybean--thanks for the answer.  Let me clarify--I guess I didn't word my question right  I do have the upgrade version.   My question was since I already did have a previous version of office on my computer how can I find it.  After the redo, I was able to find other things, pics, etc.  So, I'm assuming that my old version of Office is on here somewhere (it must be since I already had the update installed before the disaster!).  Ok, I hope that's better--How do I find the version that was already on here?  Thanks a bunch again!MS Office is not free, no version has ever been free.  And, it's not bundled with Windows, like Internet Explorer, Outlook Express, Windows Media Player, etc.  So, you're not going to find it on your computer unless the Recovery disk for your computer had a trial version of Office.  Even so, I'm sure that wouldn't allow you to use the Office 2007 upgrade disk unless you had actually paid a fee to make that trial version a permanent product. And, if don't see an older version of Office on your Programs menu, then you simply don't have it; it would not be hidden somewhere.

Yes, you must have had a previous version installed at one time.  Where/how you got that previous version is something I have no way of knowing.  All I can tell you now is that you must have a previous version in order to use your Office 2007 upgrade disk.  Since you already have the Office 2007 Upgrade disk, I suggest looking on ebay.com for an older version of Office or Microsoft Works so that you'll have a product that qualifies you to install your upgrade edition of Office 2007.  Here's some info on what products will qualify you to install the upgrade: http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/suites/FX101754511033.aspx?ofcresset=1

I tried in vain to install Windows MEDIA PLAYER 11 on Windows Media Center to no avail. I finally had to SETTLE for WinAmp. Our computer died on us the other day.  We are told it is a fried  unavailable, outdated component.  Thing is, we really need the information on the hard drive, specifically outlook express.  I don't know a whole lot about COMPUTERS, but I do know that we were running microsoft xp and it was an Aopen tower.  Is there a way to access outlook express from another computer and retrieve the info that way or can someone suggest something else.   I have some very important and personal messages that I don't want to loose forever take the hard drive out and connect it to another computerwill it connect to any computer, or does it have to be similar?  We have the tower before we PURCHASED that one still.  It is a Dell. it depends if the hard drive  is sata or ide open up your freid pc is the hard drive connected by this?

Hey all - I've been having trouble with my mouse. Occasionally, when my SCREEN saver come up, the mouse freezes, and will only work again with a reboot. If I put the computer to sleep and then bring it back, the mouse unfreezes as well. I think I MAY have a cheap mouse, and that MIGHT be the PROBLEM - but still....

Hi My wife as a problem we are unable to solve, would ANYONE be kind enough to help us please. My question is : We WANT to export contacts from Outlook 2007 to outlook 2003, we believe we have done this by exporting the pst file but we GET a huge error that i cannot even remember and the contacts aren't there. Is there some sort of incompatibility when working between these PROGRAMS, and can anyone tell us how to do this task. Any ADVICE please.

I like Thunderbird and can't stand Outlook, but others will say differently.
Just install it and give it a shot, try it for at least a week to get USED to it.

I have to run email accounts for some sites I maintain and opted to use Thunderbird to deal with three of those - I like it a lot - sufficiently versatile to do what is needed and I trust it 100 times more than I'd trust Outlook!  Judicious use of filters can mean good spam control if you need to see most of what comes in before deleting.Thunderbird is just a more "simple" email program as far as overall look and usability.  Outlook is just not as "user friendly" but I personally like it better for everything it can do.  I.E. adding my favorite sports teams schedules to outlook so I know exactly when they play and little things like that is why I like it.I was under the impression that Forte' was a newsgroup reader and not an e-mail client...If you need more of the full Outlook features, pair Tbird with Mozilla Sunbird. If you're just LOOKING to replace Outlook Express, Tbird is all that you need.

First of all, yes that is possible. although the process is slightly complicated. ok, very complicated.

as CH FORUM members do not encourage pirated software, i'm assuming you've purchased a leopard license.

having DONE that, i'll also be assuming you have one drive and no partitions.

windows boot partition is formatted as NTFS (NORMALLY), you need to format your partition as Mac OS Extended or HFS plus.

you can do that via the leopard dvd, or through windows. (windows if you PLAN on dual booting).

insert leopard dvd, enter "-v" without the SPEECH marks.

wait for setup to load, do not install mac, cuz you can't yet.

select from the menu at the top, i think it was tools or something, disk utility or something, and through that you should be able to format your drive to HFS.

once that's done, you can install.

for further details, you can try googling it. However, most of the results refer to a hacked version of leopard.

P.S - i hope your processor supports sse3 at least, otherwise no rosetta or itunes etc for you.

Easy to set up, easy to delete, if something goes wrong.

Following advice received from my computer manufacturer's (ACER) tech support line, yesterday I copied the folders on my C: partition onto the D: partition (into a folder I named Cdrivecopy) before restoring my computer to factory settings.  Then I reinstalled my applications.  I am now in a situation where the reinstalled Outlook application contains none of my past emails.  ACER can't help me with the following question: How do I get the emails which are somewhere on my D: partition back into Outlook?  This is the question I would appreciate help on.  My OS is Vista Home Premium, and the Office suite is Office Enterprise 2007 (same as before).

My understanding is that my emails would be in ONE or more files with extension .pst.  Running "Search everywhere" on *.pst returned only one such FILE, called "archive" (which I assume contains only archived emails, not emails that were last resident in my inbox and other internal folders).  The path is GIVEN as D:\Cdrivecopy\Users\Jeremy\Appdata\Local\Microsoft\Outlook.  However, when I try to import .pst files into Outlook using the Import wizard ("import from another application", then "import personal folders"), the "browse" tab does not allow me to see or follow the path returned by my previous Search: there is no "Appdata" subfolder indicated under "Jeremy".  When I try to follow the path by clicking on "Computer" --> "D:"--> etc. I get the same result: no Appdata subfolder is visible under Jeremy.

One other thing: the browse window in the Outlook Import wizard does (by default) list the following path to a .pst file not revealed by my Search, namely C:\Users\Jeremy\Appdata\Local\Microsoft\Outlook\backup.pst.   I haven't tried importing this file since I suppose it is a new file which will be more or LESS empty.  I don't know why it wasn't revealed by my Search on .pst files, and again I can't find the file by clicking on "Computer" --> "D:" etc. because this procedure shows no Appdata folder under Jeremy.

In short, I would like to import my emails (in FACT, mainly the ones which were still in my inbox, rather than the older archived emails) into the reinstalled Outlook, and would appreciate pointers on how to do this.

you are on correct path my friend....when you searched for the PST file....did you enable the search for hidden file and folder ?.......Do you know if you had offline file as well or not (OST file, that could come handy as well)

To completely remove Norton/Symantec go to ADD remove programs and uninstall anything with Norton, Symantec or Live Update in the name.

Download the Norton Removal Tool (SymNRT) to your Desktop.

Once downloaded please close ALL open browsers, also save any work because this may REQUIRE a restart.

• Go to your desktop and double click on the removal tool and then click Setup.
  
• Once open Click Next
  
• Accept the license agreement and click Next
  
• Type in the letters/numbers that you see into the text box then click Next.
  
• Then click Next and the tool will start running.
  
• Once finished restart the PC and run the tool again to ensure everything has been removed.

Does anyone happen to have a TEMPLATE for Word that would basically have the dotted lines that PERFORATED paper would normally have. I'm attempting to take an 8 by 11 piece of paper and cut it so I end up with three pieces and want to make sure I line everything up correctly. I would also then like to have a watermark as the BACKGROUND to each of these items. Your help is appreciated.

Are you trying to make a brochure by any chance? If so, you best bet would be Microsoft publisher........it has lots of template with watermark graphics.

My Stedmans electronic medical dictionary stopped working, did not come up, so I TRIED to reinstall it, but I got the MESSAGE:  The file C\Program files\SEMD60\SEMDuser.fdb could not be opened.

When I tried to uninstall it to reinstall  it again in the add/or remove window, I get:  could not open INSTALL. log file.

I might have lost some program files with Ccleaner? 
Stedmans support sent me a fdb file to try to help, but I could not open it.

Instead of uninstalling, have you tried reinstalling over the existing copy?

Is there a skin resembling the 9 Series or WMP 10 skin for WMP 11?  I'm running Windows XP, and the black style of WMP 11 just clashes too much with Luna, so upgrading is a no-go right now(I know, silly reason, but hey, aesthetics does count for something).  But WMP 10 does seem to crash more than 9 Series or 11, so if I COULD GET the look I wanted with WMP 11, I'd like to upgrade.  Or for that matter, if I could downgrade to the 9 Series, that would be worth a try as well.  It does at least most of the things I need (if it does too little, I can ALWAYS re-upgrade to 10), and is more stable - thus preferable.

Also note that I don't want a mini-mode skin - I want a skin that affects the full-screen display and Taskbar toolbar.  Something similar to the Change Color mode of WMP 9 Series and IE 5.5 for Mac.

I know I could change to Royale Noir theme to avoid the color clash, but I like Luna more.  Royale Noir is a bit too dark and Vista-y.  I also am aware of other MEDIA PLAYERS, but I've been unimpressed with ones I've tried such as Winamp, and have no desire to support Apple's music business with iTunes.  WMP 10 is the best for me except perhaps for 9 or 11.

I am using the Audacity FREE Audio Editer program and need some help with it.

If I open a WAV file that was recorded in Stereo at 22 KHZ it will tell me in a little window that the WAV file is Stereo at 22 kHz.

But if I know that the WAV file was recorded in 16 Bit Depth  it ALLWAYS comes up telling me in the little window it was recorded at 32 Bit Depth.

Now I know how to change it from 16 Bit to 32 Bit but what I don't understand is if a WAV file was recorded at 16 Bit Depth how can it open it and turn it into a 32 Bit Depth???

I can understand how you can turn a 32 Bit into a 16 Bit Depth you are taking away Bits but you can not AD Bits to a WAV file that was allready recorded.

My friend has installed Skype on XP Home but when he tries to sign up, the PROGRAM crashes.

He's SCANNED his system for malware and reinstalled Skype lots of times but it keeps happening.

When I was away from home my nephew was playing a video game in my PC. While playing video game the power cuts off immediately. When he tried to restart, system could not load windows XP. Message was "diskett error".
When I booted with WinXP CD, it started to copy files into hard drive as it happens when we install winXP. There were 2 partions at the FINAL step. One was D with nfts file format and other was c with "unknow" file format. I deleted C: drive and created new C drive with "new raw" file format. The system directed me to setup format, i could not format it. There was an error in drive C.
When I did SCANDISK, this message displayed "this error prevents Scandisk to fix problem" .
I did FDISK but It takes too long (more than 5 hrs) while creating Primary Dos partion. Starts to "veryfying integrity" 0-100% and START and complete again and again, over and over. Plz tell me what to do now.

Fahmeed: Just looked at your post again and it looks like you are most concerned about viruses entering through USB CONNECTIONS. I am unaware of any AV that is superior in that regard, but, you can help yourself by being very careful about what USB devices you allow to be connected to your system. ANY and ALL memory containing USB devices are potential sources of malware on your machine - flash drives, USB harddrives, MP3 PLAYERS, etc.You should know that Advanced computer users may have scripts that run with an autorun on the USB that will copy your personal information but I wouldn't WORRY about this.

I have a Western Digital WD1200 Serial #WMAEK2712941. I want to test if the drive is GOOD or not. The computer had a power supply problem and killed the MOTHERBOARD. I was going to use Ultimate boot disk but it would freeze on trying to load the hard drive Diagnostic program. Is there another free Diagnostic program out there that will work for this hard drive?

I recently purchased a refurbished Dell Latitude CPi laptop, ready for installation of an operating system. My neighbor (don't TRUST them for help) installed an illegal copy of Windows 98 SE, and I need to remove it ASAP so that I may install the Windows 98 that I purchased. Assuming that you have one disk and no data at risk, you can easily erase your entire hard drive using kill disk. It's a free utility which well..as you may have guessed...wipes your drive clean. You can then perform a clean installation of Windows 98.

or are you having to burn an .iso image?I have heard that even if you have an illegal copy of a MS OS on a system, as long as you buy a legit copy and keep that copy available if you were to be audited by MS, that they would allow for the install to remain on the laptop as if the legit copy was installed, but without having to go through a full reinstall.

This was part of the program that MS was doing for the people who installed XP to various systems and MS is giving the ability to come forward and without lawsuit pay for it even if it is a duplicate install.

What I heard some people doing to avoid buying OS's is raiding recycling plants for computers thrown away to grab the XP and Vista keys off of the sides of the systems and using those to install to bare bone boxes and that is not allowed even if the Keys were thrown away and someone found them useful for new system builds!!!! MS States that those systems of which Keys were OEM to those boxes have to remain in or on those boxes.

The loop hole here is that you could grab those systems and install a new motherboard and move the ORIGINAL CPU from that dead system into the new board and be legally legit with MS because they pair their OEM Keys that came with say your HP computer in reference to the computer case and CPU. You can swap motherboards and all other internals, but as long as the case and CPU is used with the key, you dont have to be the original owner  of the system for it to be legit.

If you are the owner of a computer and the motherboard dies and you upgrade it and it was an eMachines for example, you can install the motherboard into that system and be ok, because you are the original owner of the MS software, so MS got their $$$$ from you. You may run into problems though activating the key though and you will have to express that you swapped motherboards and will be at the will of the India MS Activation as to if they will approve or disapprove the activation.

I'm just FINISHING up my LATEST build and will be using vista, xp pro, and POSSIBLY linux and solaris a bit later. My dad got some pcs from where he works an I'm used to SEEING wavestation useed around the place.  Since he got some that had it on I wanted to USE it for my music.  Thing is that my father doesnt remember how to load the music in an such an says it complex.  Any one know how?You will need a registered copy of the program to install it on your new beast...
Programs cannot simply be copied from one MACHINE to the next and be expected to run properly.
That's not how it works and we've covered this before.This program is registered an is the real thing.  I have it on TWO DRIVES.

i tried a new internal power supply board and that didnt help,

i dont have an external power supply brick unit to try as of yet because it has a real strange plug

I recently gave up on ZoneAlarm and uninstalled and downloaded Online Armor firewall.

I now have a couple of CONNECTIVITY problems with my ISP (AOL)  and AO.

When I click to sign in to AOL I get a blank "welcome" screen followed by the message "Navigation to the web page was canceled" - although I do get connected (dialbb) - access to the web via Firefox and IE.  I also get a very irritating speech balloon type window continually popping up from the Online Armor icon in the systray with the message -
"Online Armor Firewall 
 C;\ProgramFiles\CommonFiles|AOL\ACS|AOLAcsd.exe:
 Outgoing UDP access allowed, Port 5190"

All the AOL programs are "trusted" and "allowed" in the OA  control. but I presume that I must messed things up when I installed the program - would it be a good idea to uninstall and reinstall??

I understand that it it is not a good idea to have Windows and/or AOL firewalls running at the same TIME as OA?

The "Uninstall Firewall" option on the page - is that for temporary disablement, or a full program uninstall?

ive recently installed nod 32 2.7 AV and had to preform a system restore for a reason, now ive been trying to DELETE it cuz its causing me problems but i cant, every time i try to uninstall it it tells me it cant FIND the uninstall file and when i try to remove it manually it says that a process is still running, so i tryed to end this process (nod32krn.exe) and everytime i do that it comes back, was wondering what should i try further? tried removing it from CMD, says "acces is denied", tryed going to safe mode but for some reason it wont go there, i think something is MESSED up lolReinstall over the top, and try uninstall again.

I have an HP Pavilion PC with Windows XP. I repartitioned the HARD drive so that I have three partitions, the Windows XP partition (ntfs & existing), an HP Recovery partition (fat32 & existing) and now a Solaris partition (NEW). I successfully installed Solaris 10 5/08 (which created the Solaris partition). When I boot I get the Grub boot menu with the expected selections for booting Solaris, Windows and HP Recovery. Solaris and HP Recovery boot up fine with no problems. When I attempt to boot windows, the normal screens appear but then freezes just before it gets to the login screen.

I then tried starting over from scratch. I deleted all partitions and I recreated the MASTER boot record (with the Windows Recovery Console booted from cd) using fixboot and fixmbr. Then I restored the HP Recovery and Windows partitions using the HP System Restore cd (this cd RESTORES the hard drive back to original factory shipped setup). Windows and HP Recovery booted up fine with no problems. I then installed Solaris with no problems. Solaris and HP Recovery again booted up with no problems. And again Windows freezes as described above.

Any ideas on what I can do to SOLVE this problem. I hate Windows and I am only keeping Windows to run AutoCAD.

i have a computer on which I have a employee check in screen.  I also have a camera software on the computer to monitor the days events through a camera.  Both programs work fine.

Problem is that I need a way to be able to KEEP my employee check in program open so PEOPLE can check in and out all day as well as my camera program too.  Problem is there are buttons on the camera programs window that I dont want people to access.  Meaning if I click the record button on  the camera software, I dont want someone else to come and stop the recording process by clicking on the button again. 

So essentially I want a way to disable access to the camera program buttons but keep the program RUNNING and let the checkin program run as it NORMALLY would

is there a way to do that

I had AVG 7.5 free on my Win98SE and continued to MANUALLY update even after AVG discontinued  7.5. Now, AVG 8.0 does not work on Win98 so was I able to update 7.5 with 8.0 updates or was 7.5 not really updated and I was living in a fool's paradise.
Sorry if this sounds confusing but it would seem that you can continue to have 7.5 running and still manually update to the LATEST virus definitions. They corrected it recently. Now they say, until the end of AUGUST.

I have just ripped an audiobook cd (10 tracks - 75 mins) to my pc.

Normally this would be done at something like 20-30 secs per track, but this time the process was very slow - taking about 40 mins to rip the complete cd.  What could be the reason for this?  I have had no problems before, although program opening generally has been a bit sluggish recently.

I have AVG AntiSpyware and AVG Antivirus and use CCleaner regularly, Windows XP SP3, 768 ram.Further to my previous post -

I've just tried again with the second cd and the problem seems worse - it's up to track 7 and it's taken 48 mins.  ALSO, opening new pages is taking much longer than usual - opening my home page (in Firefox) took a couple of minutes instead of a couple of seconds.

I must report first that things seem to be back to normal - this morning I ripped the third cd of the book and the thing was done in a couple of minutes, and TRANSFER to my MP3 was done in a flash.

CD - I presume your queries re Task Manager info relate to what's going on during the rip process - this I have not checked, and to be honest I don't really understand the meaning of the info there.

One thing -- I have had connectivity problems with my ISP, AOL, caused by a security update of ZoneAlarm (now fixed by uninstalling same) -- this couldn't have had any effect, I suppose?

I had connectivity problems with my ISP (AOL) - after a couple of expensive calls to their help line they finally told me the problem was with ZoneAlarm.  I finally got back online by uninstalling ZoneAlarm.  The SECURITY level slider reset to medium did not work.  The other solution was to uninstall the update but, although it was shown in Windows update history, I couldn't find it in Add or Remove Programs.

I've now seen plenty of references online about the problem - will we be told when it's safe return to ZoneAlarm?From ZA website.

As I had uninstalled ZA, I thought I would abandon them and have now downloaded the free version of Online Armor firewall.

ok here it goes, I tryed to download a GAME but it said i needed utorrent program so i downloaded that but utorrent changed most of my programs on my computer so when i clicked on them they tryed to opened with utorrent.


I went to CONTROLL panel and tryed to uninstall utorrent but when i clicked yes on uninstall button nothing happened. Then i just went to utorrent folder and clicked delete and emptyed it from rec bin.  My bad! 


When i try to open most programs a screen pops up and asks what program do you want to use to open this file?


Is there any way i can get my computer back to normal? If ANYONE knows please help me!

You make some moves of which you don't have enough knowledge (like removing program folder in order to get rid of some program), and you're surprised there are some bad consequences.
