Out of the blue, after using since 2002, the MS Money program will no longer LOAD the "Help" section. It comes on and gives subjects but when I clickon a link I get "unable to load" msg.
WOULD this be due to a memory overload.....checked this and seem to still have plenty left.

What Ver of MSMoney are you using?You should be able to do a repair install of Money from the CD. Even if you do a complete uninstall and reinstall you data file will be safe. But I would still make a copy of it to another folder just to be safe.Thank you, will try reinstalling after making a couple of backups.When you exit money it ask you if you want to make backups and if you click on the options you can SEE the PATH to the backup file, simply make a copy of that. You also have a choice to make a backup to a floppy disk.

If you are just reinstalling, you data will be fine but it is good practice to have a backup ANYWAY.

i was UPDATING an EXCEL spreadsheet and was using my scrolling mouse to roll down the page when the size of the rows and the relevant text decreased dramatically in size.
Although this makes things a lot neater what did i do & how do i reverse this ?You were HOLDING down the CTRL key when using the mouse wheel. Just brushing that key while using the mouse wheel increases or decreases sizes in web page, Excel, tons of other PLACES.........

Hi everyone, I have three computer all the the same config, XP Pro, As ROCK Momo 2.4 Celeron 512 Ram 2 of them PLAY from cd the third won't have reinstalled C-Media driver from m/b disk when you play a cd it prompt up that there is no sound device and it just shuttles throught the play list. Yet there is sound when when you BOOT up and close down. I have tessted the speaker on another and they work fine. and my recording software is Nero Burning Rom 6x.
Nero`s system informations keeps telling me that i can use DVD+R disks.Recently bought

myself a brand new pack of TDK DVD´S (+R) but each time i TRY to create a data DVD I keep

getting the MESSAGE that the disk its not a valid one (tryed all the 25 of them)...
Drving me nuts here...any sugestions...?

It SOUNDS like the file was moved from it's original location, and the system can not trace it, becuase the "shortcut" needs to be refreshed... I have Notron SystemWroks, which fixes that for me, but I don't know of any software that does that for free... Give it time... Maybe it will work itself out?

I recently installed Microsoft Word 2002 onto my desktop computer from my Microsoft Office XP disk. This version of Word has already been installed on my laptop and i have had no problems with it. On my desktop i highlighted a word and right clicked to find a synonym and no matter what word i highlight there is ALWAYS no suggestions. Word on my laptop does not have this problem and my OLD version of word never did either.... can someone PLEASE suggest a way to fix this.

Note: I do have the installation disk.You didn't install the grammar tools. I opened the registry, clicked edit and searched for it using the word XAimer. It could have other names in the registry, but i have no idea where to find them.

No, i just clicked D/L from the site and put it in my D/L Folder.

ChrisSome registry key is preventing you to reinstall a working version of the trail ware, in all fairness it is a safeguard to protect company assets.

If you have not already done so, please take a backup of you registry before you work on the reg hive, and if you have done this prior to the 1st install of your shareware, you could have replace it with the backup to over write anything the shareware prog have enter in. Click on run and type "regedit" in the reg menu click on file and export, type in "reg" and SAVE it to a location.

Check the shareware key, in registry menu, click on HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE, SOFTWARE. and check HKEY_CURRENT_USER, software look for the name of the shareware and delete that key, but be careful you don't mess up others and make sure you take a backup as describe above before you do anything.Almost forgot,
To restore the registry, you double click on the reg you have saved, it will do it automatically, please make absolutely certain you want to do it.

Hi i hav just downloaded a torrent game off the internet, and now i dont no wot to do. I am a beginner at this kind of thing and i was hoping that sum 1 would tell me wot to do. I can't get into my contacts in outlook. I open the Address Book, then click the 'Show Names from the:' drop down, and then when I click 'Contacts' (there are two entries saying Contacts, btw one of which is empty), the mouse turns to an hourglass for a second and then the whole outlook PROGRAM SHUTS down. No warning, no error, it just disappears. Any suggestions as to what has happened, and how I fix it?

If nothing else, can someone POINT me to where the contacts file lives, and i'll delete it and start up a fresh one, coz at the moment, I can't do anything with PERSONAL contacts. :-/

AThe contacts are stored in the same file as your email, calendar, tasks, notes, etc. Outlook.pst (UNLESS you set it to something else). So unless you want to lose everything you may not want to delete this file. Where it is store on your computer is dependant on OS version and Outlook version.

If it were me I would....
1. Make a backup copy of outlook.pst.
2. Rename outlook.pst.
3. Open Outlook and let it create a brand new file.
4. Use File, Import and Export to import the items I needed into the new file.

ThanksSelect the cells you want to "protect", right click, choose format cells, protection, check locked. Cells are locked by default, if I remember correctly, so you may want to SELECT the cells that you want unlocked and unlock them.

The select Tools, Protection, Protect Sheet from the main menu. Select the options you want, probably locked cells but not unlocked cells.

I have SET up various times tables (ie 1X2 = , 2X2= etc) that I WANT students to enter in the correct value where a cell in that row will SHOW TRUE or FALSE. I now wish to automaticaly add up all the TRUE answers, Can anybody advsie how I can do this. I am using Exel 2002.

One is to use the "if" function. Place a formula similar to this is a cell and then copy it down to all the others. Sum the results in other column and hide and protect this column.

Under C:Windows, I have a couple of thousand temp files for word. They list as "fffeffd5_ {CEBC8 aca-f69f....}
The last several DIGITS after fffef...are different. Does anyone know what these are and can they be deleted? When you click on them, you GET a blank word page???

AmigaWith file names like you describe and the fact that they are in the Windows directory makes me SUSPECT a system problem or an incomplete install. What tipped you off that the files belong to Word? Anyway, you can hide these files from Word...make a new directory somewhere on your DISK, then move (not copy) all these files to your new directory. If the OS and Word continue to operate as normal, you can delete all the files and the new directory after about a week. If a problem occurs, you can always move the files back.

I would also like to know how to highlight a column of data (~30,000 + rows) from where I select the start value - down the column to the END of th data, without dragging. Is there a shortcut for doing this? I appreciate this forum.

The first part, you can record a MACRO to select every 3rd or th cell, but second is a tough one, not sure if it possible.... Thank you for your response, but what does "record a macro" mean? I've never used macros - just the formulas in the cells... maybe I just need to sit down and think! about how I did it years ago. There are so many shortcuts in EXcel that I'm not sure if I can sift through them all to find the highlighting one I'm looking for - but I know it's possible. I'm running Windows XP Pro....the problem is that when I try to boot up, my computer will only go as far as viewing the wallpaper...nothing else. Then a error message appears say this:

Explorer.exe - UNABLE to locate component.
This application has failed to start because Browseui.dll was not found. REINSTALLING the application may fix this problem.

Now I've tried pressing F8 to boot up in Safe mode, also tried to use BEST last known configuration and still the same thing! I thought I'd ask around to see if I could fix it myself before I bring it in to a professional.Have you tried to reinstall windows like it suggests?That option is not available right now.

a few days ago, my screen went black and kept shutting down, then a blue screen popped up and read, setup or system recovery repeatedly. i couldn't get it to do ANYTHING else, so I did system recovery which put all the original settings back on my computer. we could play dvds before that happened, now we can't. when we put a DVD in, a screen POPS up that says installation error: unable to load interactual player language file \iaresen.dll., reinstall interactual video. when i tried to reinstall , it says i NEED a cd that came with the computer. i don't think i got one with the computer, so can you tell me how i can reinstall iv.You could use another DVD player like MS Media Player 10 or WinAmp or DIVX player... there are loads of free players that you can DOWNLOAD from the web.

I have a website set up using FrontPage 98. The ISP supposedly lost a server and the website URL was changed from http://www.lanset.com/mywebsite to http://webs.lanset.com/mywebsite.

Now when I try to publish changes to the site, the popup BOX in FrontPage dutifully lists all the files being sent, but at the end there is an error message saying "server error: unable to recalculate links for "/" and no updates are made.

I have gone over the webpages and there are no faulty links I can find.
Any idea how to fix this problem?

dl65 Sorry, I thought I was making it clear that /mywebsite was not part of a real URL. The main point I was making is that due to a server change, the URL had gone from //www.lanset.com to //webs.lanset.com

Tech Support at lanset doesn't have any workable ideas about what to do, so I was hoping that someone familiar with FrontPage error messages would have an idea about how to fix the problem.

I RECEIVED an email with embedded PICTURES in it. I can see them on the screen, but when I GO to print all that shows up on the paper is a square with a small red x in the corner. Do I have a setting wrong. Please help!What version of Office (or Outlook) are you using to read your email? Outlook 2003 now has a setting that won't allow pictures to be downloaded unless you manually allow it to open them (this helps prevent opening VIRUSES and malicious code and keep your computer safe). That could possibly PROPOSE a problem when trying to print these pictures.

This means in the range of A2 to A7 that is greater than 80000 then sum the total in the range of C2 to C7 CORRESPOND to the greater than 80000.

Since A6 and A7 is > 80000 so the sum of C6 and C7 =3350,000
Its a starting point for you, you REALLY need to study it abit to understand what my if formula is trying to do, imagine you have over a thousand entries like that to do on a spreadsheet manually?

Anybody know what the error MESSAGE "Script Compile Error" refers to? I've seen it on a number of occasions; most recently it OCCURS on my XP system when I try to host a MULTIPLAYER game on Call Of Duty.It generally means that there is an error is a script file (Java Script, VB Script, etc.) that is trying to be executed by the program or OS. There error could be a simple as the programmer forgetting to put in a comma or something significantly more complex.
You may also see this when your version of the scripting engine does not match what the programmer is trying to use.
In the CASE of Java, is you are using the Microsoft JVM (Java Virtual Machine), which is obsolete, and the programmer is expecting you to be using Sun JVM you will get an error similar to this.
If this error had OCCURED on a web site you would also have to determine whether the error occured on the web server or you computer (error shows up in browser vs. a pop up message box).
Another thing that comes to mind is if this script is trying to make a connection to another machine and the security, virus settings, firewalls, etc. are stopping it. If the programmer allowed for this error you should get a more informative error message. But since you seem to indicate you get it more than just on this game this may not be the case.

So the things you would need to check to start are......
Your OS and patch/service pack level?
Does your computer match the minimum system requirements for hosting the game?
Are you running Microsoft JVM or Sun JVM, or other?
If Sun, is it up to date?
If Microsoft, it needs to be uninstalled and replaced with Sun.
If other, is it up to date?

I am trying to make a stats program for my baseball team. I am having trouble with my sheet that displays the team leaders in each offensive category. What I am trying to do is have the program look on a sheet entitled Season Totals which is put together by added all the weeks together. Once it looks at Season totals, it is suppose to go through each category for example Hits.. and DISPLAY the number of hits that the first, second an third team leaders have which is not in ascending or desending ORDER and then it displays the name accordingly with there respective number of hits... ive been experimenting with different formulas suchs as VLOOKUP, MATCH, OFFSET and the problem i am facing is that if 2 people share the same amount of Hits it displays the same name twice.. even though i am having it search for the 3rd largest value by using the LARGE function as a subfuction of OFFSET, if anybody has any insight to this please email me at [emailprotected] or reply to this MESSAGE. because my customer habituate with dos font ... which is very fast in print ... now i give html page to print for ... which uses fonts slower in print.
customer does not like slow printing of bill, receipt etc. it must be fast ... bad quality is okAlright... Forst off.. I have never HEARD of one font printing faster than another... But... If you say so... I suggest Times New Roman... That prints fast (just as any other font), and looks clean. If you want faster printing, then maybe you need a better printer... Laser maybe...

[glb]Flame[/glb]You want a fixed width font as opposed to a true type font. True type fonts are rendered as graphics whereas fixed width are (many times) stored in the printer's memory. Of course that depends on your printer too.

Some fixed width fonts are MS Sans Serif, Courier(not Courier New), Roman (not Times New Roman (sorry Flame)).

Go to your control panel, open up fonts, and take a look at the descriptions, etc. If you are on XP you will notice the Fixed Width fonts in Red and the True Type in blue.

Now, there is a significant difference in printing from a character based program (DOS) and a web page. Remember when printing a web page you are ALSO printing the background color (even it if is white) as well as any graphics you have on there. All of that adds to print time.gussery,

I could be wrong, but that background option is not able to be controlled... If you have a laser printer, then this should not even be an issue...

After installing my new HP laserjet 3380 printer, I immdeiately began having problems with MS Excel 5.0c. First, I could not print in "landscape" layout. Second, Excel began to frequently crash. When I tried to save my work or print a spreadsheet, I would GET the following error message: "Excel caused a General Protection Fault in module [emailprotected] Choose close. Excel will close." I had to reenter data and try to save it piecemeal until the problem would reoccur. I tried to adjust the compatibility of Excel with Windows XP, but the problem continued. Then I used the restore function to reset the system to the day before I installed my HP Laserjet printer. Now everything works fine with Excel, but I have no printer. How do I reinstall my printer WITHOUT causing the problem again?
Check HP's website for updated drivers and install those.Excel 5 was released in 1993. You are lucky it even works at all with WinXP.Guess I should have read the original post BETTER.
Excel 5.0 on Windows XP with a newer printer? Excel 5.0 is notorious for failing under these circumstances.

You either need to update your Excel or relegate your printer to using an old driver like HP Laserjet Series II.

I have heard differant OPINIONS on how long photographs on CD or DVD's will last. The range is between years to forever. I sure would like to know how MUCH faith I can put in trusting family photos to a Disc. I always make a copy of the original and put it in a safe deposit box. Optical Media (assuming CLEAN, cool environment) forever. That of course assumes there is still a device AVAILABLE 100s of years from now, or even 10 for that matter, that will read a CD.

You need the host version on your office PC and the client version on your home PC. Then you need to know the IP address (if connecting via the Internet) of your office PC and use that in a Network connection from PCAnywhere at your home.

I would need much more information about how you plan to connect, what TYPES of computers, etc. to help you better.I was TOLD that one version (the host version) would be ok, for both computers.

My home computer is a Dell (unfortunately) and my office computer is a Gateway.

I have cable internet for both and hoped to connect that way, but I am open to another suggestions.

Loaded Word2 for friend and set up template for his letters. It works well and identifies spelling mistakes with usual wavy red line. BUT when using it for normal doc's no red line. I have TRIED TOOLS, OPTIONS and the Spelling Tab then checked 'check spelling as you type'.
Have also tried deleting and reloading. Any ideas please?You can reset the Users Word profile by deleting the following registry keys:

A Music CD that I make AWHILE ago now OFTEN skips and stops. I think it might have to do with the fact that the top label was scratched or SOMETHING. the CD has the same PROBLEM on Windows Media Center.The CD is not read from the top though... Only the bottom... Have you checked the CD for scratches? Have you CLEANED any smudges that might have developed? Can you just make a new CD?

Been scanning images and SAVING them as jpeg files in Adobe Photoshop 7. But now, the jpeg option is no longer listed under "Format" when i try to save the file (I only see .psd, .raw, & .TIF). I use to see a long list of format TYPES but now it's down to 3. How do I solve this? That's interesting, I just opened a .gif file in adobe photoshop 7 and I couldn't save it as a .jpg?
I then opened the same file with paint shop PRO and the option to save as a .jpg was there?
Maybe you should try scanning in a different file format?
Did it ever do what you're trying to do now?It may have to do with your colour settings or image depth. Sound like you are scanning them now on different settings.

go to: image / mode /
and play around with some of the options.

If lab colour or multi channel is selceted for example you can't save it as a jpeg.

If not that it may be the number of channels.
JPEG only supports certain settingsMonica Grau......I have ran into that problem the odd time ....using photoshop.....when scanning something .....If it won't GIVE me the save as ......jpg option .....then I will save it as a "psd" then open the psd image in Image Composer and save it as jpg.......

My scanner is fairly old and isnt supposed to work with Win XP ........but I found a driver on the Umax Europe site which claimed to fix the compatibilty issue . The scanner works like a charm.....99% of the time........them the odd time it wont let me save as jpg ......so I just do as explained above .

I'm using Photoshop 7 to put together cut and paste PICTURES with text layed out next to and around them on a white background. Simple stuff.

Problem is when I delete or cut anything photoshop remembers the area that was cut or deleted as a grey patch - transparency setting I guess. The patch / patches are not visible except when printing (network b/w epson PRINTER).
I have tried lots of things to get rid of this with little success:
flattening image, saving as pdf, changing colour settings, new background layer with white fill, fiddling with the preference settings...
My only successful method is to SAVE as a Bitmap but the resolution is unusable and I can't save colour images.

I'm using Windows XP.
On my OSX mac at home this doesn't happen.

I'm guessing that there is some simple(ish) button that I've just missed.
Any help or suggestions gratefully received.

Hi Running Photoshop7 with Windows XP PROF. photoshop will not open it starts up but will not open, there is a prompt saying that there is a LOCKED file, question where do u go to find the locked file and how do unlock it. Have already reinstalled photoshop but STILL the same prompt.Have you scanned for any viruses and spyware? Does photoshop have any updates for you to install? Windows Updates? WHENEVER I open a attached MS word file, It alway open in "Reading layout" mode. And I have to click VIEW, and select Normal, very inconvenient. How can I change default setting to Normal mode?

In Word, go to Tools, OPTIONS, then the General tab. Unchecked "Allow Starting in Reading Layout" (in the UPPER right hand corner). Click OK.

I run a website and had all my pictures on a CD-RW disk.

The disk was working fine until today, the photos I have on the disk will not open. The disk was just purchased and does not appear damaged.

If I try to copy the files to a new location, I get an error message “Invalid MS-DOS Function"

These photos are very important, does anyone know of a way I could recover them?

PhyllisI know of two otions... Try dragging them out of the CD to your desktop... OR try this... open the files from the CD in a paint program, and use the Save As function to save it to your computer...

I have to open a small program called incd to be able to access cdrw disks. Are you doing anything at all differently from when the disk was working? Like trying to use it on a different computer or something?No, I am not doing anything different. I have never tried to open it on another computer. I just put the disk in to access the pictures and at first, the icons would not come up, (I paniced ), rebooted my computer, and tried again. Now, I can see the icons to all my pictures and files but still can't open them.

I don't know what happened.

Does this computer have a a CD burner? Maybe you need to have the CD in the burner drive for it to open?

If I try to open one of them in another program like Adobe Photoshop, it freezes or Paint the error message is "F:/Pictures.DSCNO745.JPG paint cannot read this file. This is not a valid bitmap file or its format is not CURRENTLY supported”, "unknown error occurred while accessing"

I can see the pictures in Thumbnail but can't touch them.

You'd think if your computer can display thumbnails then it is reading the file & therefore be able to copy it.

Im trying to figure out a way to transfer a task list from Outlook Exchange to a regular Outlook. Basically I want to have a Task List located on the server so others can VIEW and edit the list. The company is no LONGER using the exchange server and the folder is located under the public folders called Regulatory.

From my understanding the tasks are saved to that persons pst FILE along with email, contacts, calendar, etc. Is there a way to save the task as a different file seperately ?

ScottYou can try move the task to a public folder on the server, to do that you will need to sign on as that user to ACCESS the mailbox and link the archives.

Hi, I was wondering if there was a way to add multiple contacts to my contact list from inside an e-mail (ie. everyone in the "To:" field), other than right-clicking each person and adding them one by one.

Also, how come sometimes I am given the option to add a person to my contacts and sometimes I can't select it?

For both of these I'm referring to an address at the top of an open e-mail (either cc, to:, from:, etc.). I'm on Windows XP if it matters.
