Solve : Im sick of it! Can anybody help??

Answer»

I am so totally disgusted with the worlds will to torment anything related to computer activity for the purpose of draining peoples belief energy simply because after enough frustration and aggravation they unconciously choose to use the grey matter belief energy to avoid the problem.
Every freakin aspect of computers has become an utter torment to deal with because some freaks someplace using the word or something seek to drain the usage of that belief energy into the internet so they can use the mass mind energy for thier own desires.
(Reference "Art Bell" the radio talk show host and his experiment using mass mind right before they shut him down and his kid got kidnapped and raped therefore causing him to no longer choose to go on the air with his radio broadcast any longer)
Anyhow i used to run my computer for a few years back in 02-04 and i used the same mouse i had then as i do now but then my mouse would shut down every time i shut off my comp.
I got a new comp and i got a new mouse but its the same exact model as before although theres a serious difference. Before the mouse would turn off with the comp as afforementioned but now it wont. The computer tech says thats the way it works now and said it wouldnt cause the mouse to wear out in undue time.
I game hardcore and before i used my mouse to rank in the top 100 of the world and it lasted for 2.5 years with no problem before i had to relocate.
Now my mouse doesnt turn off and in less than a year the laser light is having problems by randomly dimming like a old flashlight starts doing and i know the reason is because it never turns off. This causes my mouse to jump to a different postion on the screen whenever the dimming effect occurs.
My question is---Does any way exist for me to turn my mouse off when the computer shuts off like it used to back in the days of pentium 4 or is it so hardwired into the motherboard not to turn off that i am ETERNALLY screwed into purchasing a new mouse every 9-13 months instead of having a mouse that works for many years without a hitch like it used to?
Any opinions would be appreciated because i am so totally fed up with the intentive torturous process that anything to do with computers or computer technology entails solely for the purpose of some d*** making the wireless technology work better than it should on the poor sap everyday joes belief energy sucked from him against his will.

Thank you
Sincerely
Ravage777wow. just wow. you could have simply stated your problem without you feeding us a bunch of crap.

Now my mouse doesnt turn off

then it must be a USB mouse and/or wireless correct? USB ports have constant power to them, thus making the device they are hooked up to stay on unless the device is wired/programmed to shut down once it receives a signal from the motherboard.

Quote
This causes my mouse to jump to a different postion on the screen whenever the dimming effect occurs.

do you have a mouse pad? what is your make/model of mouse?

Quote
Does any way exist for me to turn my mouse off when the computer shuts off like it used to

yes, shut down the comp via the power supply toggle switch.

As for load of crap fat yellow dude, read up on what i said about art bell and the goverment pulling the plug during his continent wide experiment on mass mind and then 2 days after he got back on air his son got raped and he left claiming it was a permanent departure.
Keep the derogatory comments to yourself buddy.
Nonetheless thanks for the response though,i got a microsoft optical wired,
its called intellimouse optical and i use it because its comfortable and has 5 buttons to utilize in my gaming.
The mouse plugs in to the port for the mouse not in the standard usb port.
That port on my old comp would allow it to turn off when the comp did but now it doesnt.
Do you think this is a SOFTWARE thing or a motherboard hardwire or what?
I do have a new motherboard now though but i still would like a way to turn it off when my comp shuts down so it doesnt wear out years ahead of its time.

Thankyou
Sincerely
Ravage777I suggest you buy a new mouse and test it. Maybe something in that old mouse is keeping it switched on. But you say you have a new motherboard?Quote
Keep the derogatory comments to yourself buddy.

i apologize for my last statement, but you must remember, this is a computer help forum, not a conspiracy forum.

your mouse is a PS/2 mouse with 5 buttons? odd. are you sure it is not USB? what is the exact model number?

the only thing i can think of to check, would be your BIOS settings. check to see if there is an option for standby power for your PS/2 jacks. You can turn off the power or unplugg the mouse. It's made that way because I'v built several computers with that type of mouse. I believe mine were Logitech or Microsoft. But it doesnt seem to bother the people that have them now. So it's really up to you. Might want to replace it if it bothers you.Yep, that's pretty much how they work now. Your only options are:

1. Turn off the power supply
2. Unplug the mouse
3. Deal with it

Can you describe the surface you're using the mouse on? If it's an optical mouse, they don't work well on reflective or red surfaces.

Optical mice typically dim their light when they're not moving (to save power). If the surface you're using the mouse on isn't right for an optical mouse, it will behave exactly like you're describing (dimming when it should, moving incorrectly). The best surface for an optical mouse is a white, black, or blue mouse pad with a non-reflective surface.

And Homer is right, it's a help forum, not a place to discuss conspiracy theories. If you wish to discuss such things, please use the 'Other' topic board. My mouse is a microsoft intellimouse optical usb and ps/2 COMPATABLE and its plugged into a slot that comes from my motherboard.if the only way to keep my mouse from wearing out early is to turn off my power supply im good for that but will constantly flipping the on/off switch after i shut down everything wear out anything like the board or my vid cards?

I got a 1k bfg but i dont want any power surges wearing out my other stuff since im doing this to keep my mouse from wearing out prematurely.

The mouse goes dimm randomly even when i take the mouse and move it on its side and anytime it does this it throws my pointer accross the screen.I do have a new mouse pad because the only flat laser mouse pad bows and makes a crinkling sound as i use it so i threw it away. All the other laser only mouse pads have big gel crap on them and are thick like a quarter of an inch.So i got a national geographic from wallmart that says optical compatable. Its become next to impossible to find a non-cloth,non-thickness quality laser mouse pad.

my mouse has the regular 2 buttons the wheel button and 2 internet paging buttons additionally on the sides.

All the old little senile people dont hardly make gaming mice with all 5 buttons. They dont agree with the violence and other things in gaming as they go watch thier *censored* and eat theyre killed animal hamburgers.........

Ive seen mice for over 200$ in my gaming mag that dont even have 5 buttons and i had to special order this from microsoft because 3 stores including comp usa didnt have 5 buttons for theyre mice but they all had mouses over 75$.Mine cost 35$

Its something is loose in my mouse that causes it to dimm im sure of it.Kinda just like a flashlight does.I would like to hear of mouses doing it anyways just to be 100% sure because the previous version of this exact model lasted me almost 4 yaers without a hitch.this one has done this after only 9 months.I only got a new one because the buttons on the side werent as sensitive on the old one any longer but at least everything still worked right.

Thankyou
Sincerely
Ravage777

You seem to be confused. An optical mouse and a laser mouse are not the same thing. Simply put, optical mouse uses a red light and a type of lens to read the red light on the mouse pad surface. A laser mouse uses a laser.

A laser mouse pad is designed to work optimally with a laser mouse, not an optical mouse. As I've read, but not tested, a laser mouse is supposed to work well on reflective surfaces as well.

On the other hand, an optical mouse will not FUNCTION properly, if at all, on a reflective or even semi-reflective surface. The 'eye' can't see the light properly if it's reflected. It's not looking for the light only, it's looking for the surface as well. If it can't see the light on the surface (reflective or redish surfaces) it won't think it's moving, it will randomly shut off, and the cursor will jump all over the screen. I strongly believe this is the case here.

I've had the same Microsoft optical mouse on my desktop system for 3 years. It's a wired mouse and it still works as well as when I bought it and it stays on even when the system is off. I have a wireless Microsoft optical mouse on another system that I've had for 4 years. No problem there either.

If there's one thing I've found Microsoft can do right, it's make hardware.wow!
I had no idea that optical mice and laser mice are different things. My mouse says optical and has a red light.
My problems did start after i started using the mouse pad from national geographic that has a bengal tiger face.
This has a reddish orange color to it.Im going to use my mouse pad from the comic book store even though since its a collecters item i had it where i could look at it instead of wear it out.If it works ill let you know.
Is there any where i can go on the net that will give me a really comprehensive explanation of the difference between the 2 types of non-ball mouses?I dont like the ball kind because i hate getting waxed in a game and then realizing its time to clean the ball contacts is why.Its something i truly prefer to avoid now that technology has developed these kind.

Thankyou
Sincerely
Ravage777Is the color important for a red light optical mouse if its only white with black lines intermittently because it hasnt stopped doing it at all?
Now it dimms after it sits for about a half sec instead of occasionally like it did before nly when i was moving it around.

Thankyou
Sincerely
Ravage777

I believe two or three times I've said the dimming is NORMAL. It does this to prevent wear and tear on the mouse when it isn't moving and save power (especially with battery powered wireless models). This feature cannot be disabled or changed in most mice.

A bengal tiger is redish orange, this will most likely cause problems with an optical mouse. The black and white surface shouldn't present tracking problems. Is your movement normal now?

While they function in a similar manner (using light to monitor surface movement) the main noticeable difference is that you most likely won't notice the light from a laser mouse unless you're looking straight in the lens (THIS IS NOT ADVISABLE. After all, it is a laser.) A typical optical mouse usually uses a red LED to illuminate the surface. Other than being rather bright, it is harmless to the eye.

Wikipedia has an article about mice, including non-mechanical types.Find a fairly decent pair of Levi's you don't intend to wear ever again and cut a piece of them out to the size you want your mouse pad to be...
You can go one step further and use velcro tabs to keep it in one spot on the desk...
You won't be dissappointed in the performance.Or buy a mouse pad of similar color and texture (like mine ).

Like I said before, an ideal mouse pad for an optical mouse should be blue (red's opposite), black, or white with a non-reflective flat colored surface. If you don't like cloth surfaced mouse pads, they make rubber ones that are ideal.

Solve : Strange Error?

Answer»

Reccently cleaned up my computer but when i tried to un-instal/re-install windows both my cd drives were missing from list. When i tried re-installing the drives i got and error saying the drivers were missing or corrupted. So i tried downloading the needed drivers for my CD Rom and CD RW drives. The site i got the drivers from is driverguide.com when i tried using on of the drivers it seemed to work so i checked the list on my computer and it still does not appear. I go "Add Hardware" it SEARCHES for about 3 secods then causes my computer to crash everytime i try to add hardware. So im not quite SURE what exactly is GOING on. you may have gotten a driver that was closely identical to the driver for your CD drive but it may have been a driver to another CD drive of the same brand but different model. try and call the manufacture of ur CD drive and see if they can send U the correct drivers. What version of Windows is this ? ?
If it's anything LATER than WinME you don't need drivers...
Are the CDRom drives being detected in the BIOS ? ?
If not re-check your cable connections.

Solve : Canon i550 not printing very well...?

Answer»

I have had this printer for about two years. It has never printed really well in COLOR since after about the 1st six months. But, it prints OK in B & W which is what we use it for the most. I have used ORIGINAL Canon cartridges and OEM but it doesn't matter. I have run the cleaning program NUMEROUS TIMES and the DEEP cleaning program too. It still won't print the colors in the TRUE colors !! The blues and reds are not the right hue !! This as SUPPOSED to be a FAIRLY good printer when I bought it . Any solutions?? Did you try to get a new driver?Where do I do that - the Canon site I assume - and what would that do ?? Installing a new driver is always step NUMBER 1 in troubleshooting devices.
Your driver is HERE
Uninstall old driver, first.

Solve : Computer recognizes printer BUT?

Answer»

I have a new computer and printer. Everything has hooked up fine except for the printer. It recognizes that the printer is there but keeps asking for a driver. I have reinstalled the printer software and used a different USB. It is a E-machine desktop and Epson printer. Thanks for any help you can give me.Try going to CONTROL Panel /Printers and right clik the printer and select "REMOVE" or uninstall...
Then in Control Panel also go to add/remove and remove the Epson software program...
Then shut down the machine.
Un-hook the printer from the USB port.
Power up and re-install the printer software and it will TELL you when to CONNECT the printer...

See how this WORKS for you. If no go Post back.

Solve : New 2nd HDD partitions not recognized?

Answer»

I am running Windows XP SP2 on a 2-yr old home-built computer. I have a 160GB SATA hard drive which is partitioned into a primary partition and an extended partition which is further divided into 11 logical partitions. I have just added another SATA drive (250GB) for additional data storage and backup. BIOS and Windows recognition of the new drive and NTFS formatting went OK. Both PartitionMagic and the Windows Disk Manager recognize the new drive. Originally, I had configured the new drive as an extended partition with a single 238GB logical partition. So far, so good. But if I divide this extended partiton into two smaller partitions (currently, one of 48GB and the other of 190GB), only the first partition appears in Windows Explorer under My Computer or in any "File Open" dialog box. I tried decreasing the size of the big partition, and tried making the first partition a prime and the second a basic extended, but that didn't help either.

However, all of the new partitions are shown by PartitionMagic and the Windows Disk Manager (and with the proper drive letters, too). Those partitions ALSO show up in the Diskeeper defragmenter and also can be accessed via the command prompt.

How do I convince Explorer to accept these new partitions and display them so I can access them?

Thanks!Did you remember to format the new ones you created ? ?Yes, it was formatted as NTSF. The first partition is recognized, the second is not.How does it show up in Disk Management ?Disk Management shows both partitions on the 2nd disk as "Healthy," NTFS formatted. The partition that IS recognized is 46.88 GB and the one that is NOT recognized is 186.01GB. Except for the sizes, their properties are identical. They are both logical drives in an extended partition.

PartitionMagic shows much the same, except the REPORTED file sizes are a little larger.

As I said in my original post, I tried making the second partition smaller in case the large size was a problem, but it didn't help. Also, if I make the drive one huge, single partition, it is recognized correctly.Do the letter assignments match up ? ?
You may try moving your CDRom letters down so there are 2 or 3 unused letters between the HDD's and their partitions and the CDRoms...
Sometimes this will occur when thumb drives are added to the mix as well so give any you use regularly both a volume label and designated drive letter.

So your 1st physical drive should be C: thru N:
2nd should be O: and P:

Go to S: or T: for the optical drives.

Strange.

P.S. The 1st partition on the 2nd drive is primary, correct ? ?Yes, the letter assignments match up, in Disk Management, PartitionMagic, and Diskeeper.

I set my CDROM to "Drive Z" long ago when I partitioned the first hard drive.

When I partitioned the second hard drive originally, I made the first partition a primary and the remainder of the disk an extended partition with one logical drive. That's when I found that Windows wouldn't display the second partition (except in Disk Management, where it appears to be perfectly OK). Then I deleted the primary and made the ENTIRE disk an extended partition with two logical drives, and that's where I am now.

I've attached a screenshots of Explorer and the Disk Managemant.

[file cleanup - saving space - attachment deleted by admin]I believe it needs at least one to have an extended partition to see more than one on a physical drive...so N: needs to be a primary with O: as an extended logical drive.
Without a Primary Windows will not use an extended partition.
Right now the shaded area tells me that O; is there but unallocated and i think N: needs to be primary in order to allocate O:

As far as the optical drives they can be designated with a drive letter that shouldn't change if you use Drive Management to do it.

P.S. Drive O (C: ) has a primary partition with 10 extended partitions...not 11 as you stated.

P.S.S. When you reset the N: partition as Primary you will need to re-create O: as the extended partition with the remaining drive space as well...perhaps this is where it went South the first attempt.I tried using a primary + extended/logical setup originally. The logical drive was not recognized (BUT was shown as "healthy, NTSF" by the Disk Manager). I believe the shaded area in my screenshot just shows which partiton I was looking at re:properties, etc. If it was unallocated the Disk Manager would show "unallocated" (as it did when I first began partitioning).

Nonetheless, I repeated the experiment: made the first partition into a primary "N:" followed by an extended partition with a logical drive "O:" Made no difference, drive "O:" does not show up in Windows Explorer or in any drop-down "File Open" dialog.

Then I made BOTH of them primary partitions. Same thing. . . I had hopes that would do it, but it didn't help at all.

As I've mentioned before, I CAN see the O: drive in PartitionMagic, Disk Manager, and my Diskeeper defragmenter and can read its properties, which appear normal. I have also used the command prompt and DOS commands to copy files to and from the O:drive with no problems.

So Windows DOES and DOESN't see the partition. I'm really puzzled!

RE: the number of partitions on the first drive. I knew someone would point out that I had counted wrong! I had counted the partitions on the fingers of my hands, starting with C: -- oops!

EDIT: I fired up tweakui to see if it could provide any help. Found a list under "Computer/Drives" where all my partitions were shown with a check next to them EXCEPT the O:\ drive. A simple mouse click and all was OK. Apparently the drive was "hidden." But I didn't do it, honest!

Thanks for your help!Glad you are sorted...
Just to clarify what i said...you cannot have an extended partition on a Physical drive that Windows will recognise/use without a Primary partition...

P.S. Noone ever does it...

Solve : Unable to get to the BIOS?

Answer»

Hi all,

My power SUPPLY went bad on me and after replacing it I got some problems.

First tried to boot up and I got a .dll error, I thought I would change the sequence and re load windows but when trying to boot the keyboard never becomes active, can' t hit del and get to the bios.

I am leaning TOWARD the thinking that it's the motherboard, any THOUGHTS?

Jerrythe power supply is hooked up correctly? have you double checked that everything is where it needs to be? have you checked to make sure you have SECURE connections?

what TYPE of keyboard do you have? USB or PS/2?Homer,

Pretty sure I'm hooked up good, it is a PS/2 keyboard.
I tried a usb keyboard just for the heck of it, didn't think that would work and it didn't.

Solve : Microphone not working controls greyed out - Dell XPS M140?

Answer»

Hi - could USE some help with this

Dell XPS M140

1.73 Ghz 800mHz 2gig ram

Win xP Media edition 2002 Sp2 - fresh install (Dell version and it states Mdia Edition 2005 on the install DVD)
all updates fresh today - additional software Flash Player 9 - and Sun Java and .Net framework v3 Cine Player with updates (dell)

Dell drivers installed with the exception of some BS ones like Dell support and update stuff from dell and other softwware i didn't need

I had these and many other issues prior to this re-install - i fixed most but desided to re-insstall hoping it would fix these issues - but it didn't.

Problem) the mic for recording controls are greyed out and all the way down - i have no way to raise or control the volume so i can use the mic. SEEN Below:

Sigmatel HD Audio DRIVER Codec controls are also - well - just missing nevere there i guess. this is a Dell driver update too.

The other major issue i had prior to this install is i couldn't get the DVD to burn anything - not CD or DVD - i hven't check that yet - i wanted to fix this first

one thing at a time

if there is more info you need - let me know i'll post it

Well - any ideas as how to correct this issue?

tia
chase

Ps - i'm going to be using this comp for an Audio/2D Graphics/video work station, some flash and website dev - as much as it's capable of that is.

Proimary Software will be Reason 3 - Fruity Loops - the Gimp - at this point sao any tweaks you can offer after fixing these issues would help. I've done no tweaks at thiss point except run for Preformance checked off.

thanxThose controls can't be used on every system. There's no problem there.

I do SEE your problem though, see under Microphone slider in Recording Control? You need to check the box that says 'Select'

Solve : New Video Card / Still have horizontal lines?

Answer»

I was seeing horizontal lines and some things not showing on monitor. Then errors when booting up. I couldnt do anything unless in safe mode.

I installed a GeForce 6200 OC. The lines went away for a week, now they are coming back. Also, I didnt remove the OLD card, I disabled it. I cannot get the monitor to work when plugged into the new card, but it works plugged into the old card even THOUGH I disabled it in device manager. The computer is recognizing the new card and I have updated drivers. I also trouble shooted the monitor, it seems to be working properly.

Any suggestions as to why I am seeing lines again and why I cant plug the monitor into the new card?

Thanks,

Solve : Dell P992 CRT - blank screen and clicking noise?

Answer»

Dell P992 CRT monitor, with Sony Trinitron innards, has suddenly quit working. At system boot the screen remains dark with a blank, black screen and immediately begins making a constant rhythmic, clicking noise. The noise continues until monitor is turned off. The tower appears to be functioning OK. Just prior to this monitor malfunction, it made a loud popping noise, went blank, and hasn't worked since.

Monitor was purchased, along with a Dimension 4100, in 2000. The 4100 was retired in August 2007 and replaced by a XPS 410 with a NVIDIA GeForce 7300LE video card (VGA/DVI). The XPS 410 and the P992 worked together perfectly for 5 months.

A week or so ago the 320 GB hard drive in the XPS 410 bit the dust and was replaced on Dell's dime by an in-home tech on THURSDAY, Jan. 17. The monitor problem occurred the day after the HDD replacement and after several hours of transferring files and such. I can't be SURE, but being objective about it, it SEEMS that the two events are unrelated.

So, does anyone have any ideas as to what has happened and what the odds are for getting additional life out of the monitor ?

For those who have, or had, a Dell CRT monitor with the Sony Trinitron technology you know how great they are, in particular the P992. So salvaging it is desirable, assuming the cost is reasonable.

I just discovered this forum and am enthused about being a member.

Thank you in advance for your help, KBX
Try another monitor on the computer, or try this monitor on a different computer.Yeah I thought of that.
The problem with that approach for me is that I don't want to risk either my known good monitor or computer testing a possibly bad monitor or computer without having a better understanding of what the possibilities are. If I had a spare good monitor to use that way I certainly would. Hopefully, I may have access to one in a few days.
I've not had a monitor go bad this way before, so I'm in uncharted waters here.
In the meantime, I'm hoping someone here has experienced this situation before and will respond.
Thanks, KBXConstant clicking noise sounds like the system is trying without success to access the HD - I think you have two seperate problems here. The noise is not coming from the tower. It is coming from the monitor as stated previously. Hence, it is not the HDD making the noise.
Thanks, KBXJust a bump in the hope that someone who has had this problem will respond.
Thanks, KBXI've never heard about a clicking monitor before but I have to assume it's a problem with the monitor. That being said you could try connecting it to another computer just to be certain.
If it's a monitor problem you will NEED to have it serviced. Since it's a CRT screen you might be able to find a local TV repairman who will take a look at it. If it's something simple he might be able to fix it cheaper than Dell.Sounds like you had a internal transistor burn out. A repairman,or
trying another monitor seems to be the only way to know.

Solve : audio line in from rca to 3.5mm connecting xbox360 via vga to PC?

Answer»

I have an xbox 360 that i have connected to my dell 2007wfp monitor. It has rca audio CONNECTORS and the 3.5mm converter. My XPS410 has the wl600 surround connected and the only line in is for playback(vhs, dvd players) or microphone. I tried of course this input with no result. Do I have to BUY a separate receiver and speakers? i recommend not routing your speakers for your Xbox through your comp. you will notice that your sound will lag. if you wish to use the same speakers for both your computer and Xbox, then i recommend using a reciever that lets you choose which source you would like to hear.Thanx Homer. I'm shopping for an affordable 7.1 or 5.1. I have lots of options it would seem. My pc has optical/digital audio out so that should make that simple enough. Perplexed by the challenge of connecting my Dell speakers to a receiver that has RCA plugs but I know there are Y cables and stuff for that. For now I am using Sony wireless headphones that are kinda staticy but it BEATS not hearing anything.hmmm, i may have a solution...

Z5500 5.1 speakers by Logitech. it has RCA in and digital coax and optical in. the front control panel lets you choose the source. so that means you could hook up your computer to it via the RCA jacks and you could hook up your Xbox to it via the digital coax or optical jack. this eliminates the need for a reciever. it also comes with a remote so you do not need to have the control panel in front of you at all times.

Expansion Slots

PCI: 3 Slots
PCIe x1: 1 Slot
PCIe x16 (Graphics): 1 Slot
PCIe x8: 1 Slot

that means I can have another graphics card in right? I have one right now right now means i can put another one in? And how do I know if my Video card is SLI like how do i know that if i put the same two of the video cards that they will work together where can I check?

And also what else can I put in there with those slots in like that would make it better.

NOPE. you would need two PCIe x16 (Graphics) Slots.

They would need to have the same GPU. Say if you had a 8600 GTS installed you would need another 8600 GTS. But like I said you don't have a SLI compatible motherboard.

That depends on what you want. You can install networks cards, video CAPTURE cards, TV tuners, extra USB ports, etc, etc, etc.

A thing? What thing? If your graphics card got two monitor outputs you can connect two monitors... you shouldn't need a thing?Quote

make it better performance-wise? a sound card, other then that, nothing you can put in there will increase performance.

Deerpark pretty much summed up the rest of it. just take note Cowz that there are motherboards that have 2 PCI-E X16 slots, but are still not SLI compatible.Quote from: homer on January 21, 2008, 12:53:02 PM

Ahh good catch Homer, I forgot that part. WELL thank you guys for clearing that up... But I could add a faster processor right? also do you have any good READS about that I herd doing it is kinda hard.

Oh also what are some good network cards that will reduce "lag" in games.

And for video cards since i can only have one I mind as well save up for a 768MB DDR3 nVidia® GeForce® 8800 GTX

Solve : Motherboard Issue?

Answer»

It first started when I noticed (no matter what settings I put it on) every game was choppy. So I looked in the device manager and I noticed there was a yellow exclamation MARK over one of the SCSI and RAID controllers. I tried to uninstall and reinstall it but when I did it just DISAPPEARED. I tried downloading virtually every driver update for my motherboard and nothing seems to help. I left the driver CD for the motherboard at my dorm and I am having TROUBLE finding a download for the CD itself somewhere online. If anyone could help me find the PROBLEM (if that controller is not the issue) or find a download for the CD that WOULD be great.

My specs are
Abit KN8-SLI motherboard
7950 GT NVIDIA video card
1.5GB RAM
450W power supply
Windows XP

It would be greatly appreciated if you could help me out. Thank you.Is this your board?
Abit's website

If so, the drivers for it can be found here.RAID controller? are your harddrives set up in a RAID array?

Solve : changed cmos setting now will not post!!?

Answer»

Hello all,
i recently changed a cmos SETTING on a computer that was freezing up, now it will not light the monitor. TRIED different video cards and memory, nothing worked, also tested power supply, nada!!
any suggestions???Do you recall what setting(s) you changed?

Try unplugging the computer and removing the CMOS battery for about 10 minutes. This should clear any changed settings and return everything to default.

Thanks, I'll try that. I did take the battery out for about a minute but it DIDNT help.
thanks again. Was the power unplugged from the wall when you did so ? ?
Try that leaving the battery out for 5 or 10 minutes and also HITTING the computer on/off switch a few times to dissipate stored energy.

Solve : Monitor does not start up. cant see bios.?

Answer»

I am in a bit of a pickle.. any help or suggestions would be very useful.

My Computer Specs:

/**

Motherboard Model: VT8237R
CPU: 2.8ghz
Ram: 512mb DDR 333mhz (PC2700)
Hardrive: 40gb
O/S: Windows XP Pro /w SP 2
Power Supply: 420w
**/

I got this computer off of someone not too LONG ago and it has been working pretty well. Here is what happened though; I went through bios and disabled the onboard video... as soon as that happened, the MONITOR shut off.

Every TIME I turn the PC on, the monitor stays off and the light is orange, in standby.

When I boot up, there is nothing but BLACK, which means I cant seem to navigate through my bios screen.

I tested out all my monitors (from my backup PC's), they didnt work. (They work on the backup PC's). I put in a video card which was working on one of those PC's into this one, however it still did not do the trick (and yes, I put the monitor cord into the video cards monitor jack, not the onboard one).

There was no motherboard manual when I obtained this computer. Not quite sure how to reset the Cmos/Bios setting with this motherboard. Couldnt find much info on it.

Nothing else was changed except that bios setting, yet I still cannot figure out what else to do. I even tried to blindly press F7 while booting into bios (with no monitor on) in hopes to restore defaults then save. No luck. Anyone have any ideas? All the pieces I tried (that didnt work), work perfectly fine in my backups.what you did is kill you monitor connection before ever installing a new or any video card. You should never have went into the bios prior to installing a vid card and disabling your onboard . Hold off a bit till someone with more experience than I, can walk you through fixing this. I can't. Do a google search and see if you can find some remedies or wait a bit till someone else sees this post. All is not lost, it can be fixed*

OH Yeah* Welcome to computer "you" have Hope !! Remove the CMOS battery with all power disconnected for 10 minutes...this should reset the BIOS back to default settings...Yes, remove the main power cord that is supplying your PC with electricity, for about 10 minutes like Patio said.Quote from: patio on July 07, 2007, 09:03:11 AM

Solve : Are Alienware Laptops Bad??

Answer»

Hey guys I'm PLANNING on buying an Alienware Aurora™ m9700 laptop ( http://www.alienware.com/Configurator_Pages/aurora_m9700.aspx?SysCode=PC-LT-AURORA-M-9700&SubCode=SKU-DEFAULT ) SOON and I posted on some other websites and a lot of people say bad things about Alienware. So my question is..

If buy this computer am I being ripped off?Well, I personally wouldn't pay $1600 for those specs. About two years ago, I paid $1500 for an HP laptop with slightly better specs than this. Now, that same laptop goes for maybe $800-900. With Alienware, you pay more for the look, name, and reputation. I wouldn't necessarily say you're getting ripped off, but you could pay a bit less for a similar computer with a different brand name.I agree with CBMatt on this one. Basically, you're buying the brand AlienWare, which is expensive on itself. You are able to buy a different brand with the same specs, or even higher. Thats true, but I can never FIND a place cheaper. Can one of you show me where?eBay is always worth a shot. Hewlett Packard tends to make reliable, inexpensive computers (in my opinion). Home Shopping Network is another good place to look. My sister got a pretty decent laptop (with specs similar to the above Alienware) bundled with a bunch of software for about $1000. They've actually surprised me a few times with some of their deals. There are other good PLACES out there, but these are usually the first three places I look.

Solve : This is quite funny?

Answer»

Haha,

When I turn off my headset and if I occasionally want to listen to my normal sound boxes, I hear voices in my sound boxes, just like a radio.

Usually when this happens, I am playing music. So, sometimes I hear these various voices SPEAKING INSIDE my audio boxes. They play music, advertise, basically everything what a radio does.

Sometimes they speak in German, sometimes in Chinese. It's just funny. This happens rarely, though. You may have your speakers too close to the monitor.

I am watching this post because,I have never had this
problem. I want to see the solution.

So, Trinox good to see you have became an active member
friend.

Robertsometimes powered speakers can pick up local radio stations through the wires. There is a new speaking virus going AROUND though. It's true that there are audio infections, but I get the impression that this only happens with the speakers. If that's the case, then I'd say the radio interference is a more likely suspect. What kind of speakers do you have? Where are they LOCATED? Have you tried moving them around a bit? They're stashed right next to my monitor, it's a Logitech one. I haven't tried to move it around SINCE I only use my headset and I don't have any problems with it.Quote from: CBMatt on July 07, 2007, 08:45:35 PM

Then I'd say the radio interference is a more likely suspect.

This tends to support that view...

Time signals on the hour from the speakers... local powerful AM radio transmitter... oxide film on plug acting like detector in crystal set... I have seen this a number of times.

Solve : dvd playing greyed out?

Answer»

I must be very careful changing settings on computer. Children are homeschooled and this is their only computer to use for sos classes. However, I recently installed their mp3 players and windows media player 11 on my Microsoft windows version 5.1 XP computer with service pack 2 and now the dvd slot will not recognize any dvd movie. Media 11 doesn't acknowledge a dvd and powerdvd player just says "No disc in drive" this is driving me insane! Please help? Can this drive read DVD disks with data like DVD Games etc? This will tell us if the drive itself has an issue.

Ive seen combo CD/DVD drives act up before trying to play DVD Movies, but Windows will think it is a PLAIN old CD Rom and not a combo drive. In My Computer you should be ABLE to look at the drives and confirm that it is showing up as a DVD Drive.

Please post back with your results and we will go from there...

Oh yeah, I refreashed this contraption all the way back to it's birth in BABY steps trying movies each step of the way and the movie media(all three roxy, quick, media 11) still have dvd options greyed out, and yes I've tried to restart and run on start up game too. Solve : HD Stops Computer From Booting All The Way?

Answer»

Hello All,

I have a frustrating problem with a slave drive on an older PII. The machine CAME with a FUJITSU 3GB drive, and I need to upgrade it. I've tried installing a 60GB Seagate (jumpered for 32GB), but when I try to use it on the main bus (master or slave), the machine boots up as far as the EnergyStar/hardware ID screen, then just sits there. I've tried different jumper settings, BIOS settings, etc., but no luck. The drive does work as an external USB, so I know it's good. Just not on the main bus. I want to set it up as a new main drive if possible.

The system:
Windows XP Home Edition Service Pack 1 (build 2600)
400 megahertz AMD K6 3D
64 kilobyte primary memory cache
512 kilobyte SECONDARY memory cache
Board: Biostar Group M5SAA 1.x
Bus Clock: 100 megahertz
BIOS: Award Software International, Inc. 4.51 PG 10/07/99
124 Megabytes Installed MemoryYou've to upgrade to Service Pack 2, though.Yeah, that's the main reason I need to PUT Windows on the bigger drive - not enough room right now for SP2, even with nothing else on the drive.

Solve : Laggy Webcam?

Answer»

Hey I own a PC USB Internet Video Camera WC10 from Logitech Electronics Inc. and TeleMax Communications. I have noticed that I'm not getting the video quality I was hoping for. ALTHOUGH I wasn't hoping for anything stunning I was hoping for smoother video when I'm using it on Windows Live Messenger. So what I wanted to know is if theres anyone who would be able to help me achieve a smoother video conference over MSN. Thanks. In most cases, Internet connection is the MAIN cause of "Webcam lag". After all, all a webcam does is send PICTURES to the one you're having a conversation with.

To do that, the webcam needs to upload the pictures onto your chat-friend. The only solution, that I think is the problem, is to upgrade your Internet connection.Hmm...Well sometimes its quite smooth when I'm talking to certain people, so would it reflect more on the person I'm having a conference with more than how fast my connection is. I do have high speed internet so it shouldn't be as CHOPPY as it is. If it is to do with my connection then besides spending a lot of money upgrading what else do you suggest I can do to speed it up?I ALSO have an issue with a video conference with a specific person on MSN where as soon as I connect with them with my webcam it will freeze. MSN doesn't freeze just the video conference then shortly after the video conference window will close saying that it was ended. This also only happens when I send webcam not when I receive it, so I am able to view theres just fine, but mine freezes. Could someone provide any assistance with this please. Thanks.

Solve : Optical drives on main IDE??

Answer»

I am having issues with my optical drives getting part of the way through the burning process and then rebooting the computer. I haven't been able to decipher the problem and I'm wondering if maybe the IDE port is bad. Can I connect the cd/dvd to the MAIN IDE since my hard drives are on SATA? And does anyone have any other suggestions as to what the problem might be? I'm running WinXP home SP2, all updates, Athlon 64/3200, 1GB ddr, and trying to use Nero. This is the 3rd brand new dvd-rw I have installed with brand new cables. Jumpers are set correctly. I need assistance, please! You should have no issues with the burner on IDE 1.
The only time you don't want to do this is when an IDE HDD is installed.

Try it with only the one burner installed...leave the others disconnected for now.

I would also try another brand of blank media as well.Okay, I disconnected the other drive and now it burns fine. However, I want both drives available. Is there something I need to do to make that work? Would it make a difference if I put one on the main IDE and one on the second IDE? Then they could both be configured as master, correct? Would they play nice then?YES . This would be the most workable solution now that we've determined it's not an issue with the burner...

How old and what wattage is that PSU in that machine ? ?The PSU is a 450 watt and is about a year and a half old. It's got PLENTY of power, I think, and doesn't seem to be AFFECTING anything else on here.

Solve : homers help with raid?

Answer» OK that all MAKES sense. Thank you. You keep saying terabyte drives, i plan on it but i WILL fill them up Quick!!! i asked how many drives can i fit and your reply was how many can my motherboard fit. Does that include the pci cards with multiple slots? if so i can fit quite a few as well as the 6 my motherboard has. What are these raid controller cards i keep seeing? What exactly do they do and why would i need one? i also asked how it works to add new drives and you replied i would have to add them to my raid array. What does that mean? Will it wipe out my DATA when i do it?

On a somewhat different plain is there a way to use this raid array with USB drives? that way i could just add stackable drives and a multi port usb hub like the system ultra offers. would something like that work? that is ideal because i could just keep adding more and more drives with limited input to the motherboard itself. what do you think?

You keep saying terabyte drives, i plan on it but i WILL fill them up Quick!!!

how quick and how much storage space do you need? it seems to me it might be a good idea to buy a server case.

all these HD's that you have, are you simply filling them up and then removing them, or are you keeping them in the comp?

and one last question, these DVD's that you are copying to your comp, are you compressing them so they dont take up so much space?

*EDIT*

ive read a bit on this DROBO storage device. it seems like it would work well in your situation. i believe it would be better then setting up/rebuilding RAID arrays.

http://www.drobo.com/

Yes i have been compressing the DVDs but not by much. i like the high quality and haven't been able to figure out how to compress them and still get top quality. as for how much space i actually need, well, i have no clue. i get a ton of DVDs, tons of music and id like to be able to save a lot of pictures as well. i need a system that i can just keep adding on to as time goes on with out spending 10 grand on a server. i like the link you gave me. that seems like a viable option. i bought a linksys or dlink ( i forget right now which one) anyway it doesn't really matter. its a network attached box with 2 usb ports on it so i can just hook up a few of my external drives for a place to start the backup process. i also got acronis true image software. it seems pretty good but i haven't used it yet. i have read good things though. if you have an opinion id appreciate it. i also bought a 5 port sata multiplier from addonics. that should keep me going for a while. any thoughts would be appreciated. the new hardware i got i only bought because i found them super cheep and it will keep me going for a while until i figure out a more permanent setup. as you can probably tell I'm not really a computer guy, but i do enjoy these opportunities to LEARN more and don't mind doing the work. Thanks again

do the soldering affect the motherboard
thanks a LOTIF the laptop isn't booting after homemade repair the most likely cause would be that whatever you did to repair it isn't working. But at this point we don't really know what you broke. What do you mean by "power board"? Did you break part of the motherboard? How did you repair it?hi
thanks for the quick reply
the power board is not ATTACHED to the mother board it is the piece where we insert the power supply

my question is :do the heat of the soldering affect the mother board (bios)

Solve : HELP! Toshiba A65 Motherboard?

Answer»

I just bought a motherboard off Ebay for my Toshiba A65 LAPTOP. When I got to the point where I was going to install the video card fan, I noticed a copper plate over the video card attached with 2 plastic fasteners.

On the motherboard from my previous laptop, it didn't have this copper plate, just the fan over the video card.

I'm not sure what this copper plate is, and with it attached to the motherboard I can't install the video card fan. Is there a way to remove it, or is it an ALTERNATIVE to a cooling fan?

Thanks for your help, I want to install this motherboard correctly.

Here's a picture of it:

MattYou can CLICK on any picture in this full guide
to enlarge it.
It looks like you have a new board and that
copper plate comes off to install the fan. I
did not find a picture of a new board.

If you have Product numbers on the board
research and make sure it is the same.

Assemble/Disassemble

Before you make a move go to the below site and click on the
picture to enlarge.

Your new motherboard may use the copper plate to dissipate
heat from the integrated video if it is under the copper plate.

---->LookHereIf it's something to dissipate the heat from the integrated video, then do I need a fan? If I need a fan, where do I attach it?

The picture of the motherboard in the ebay listing is the EXACT motherboard that I just bought.

By the way, the integrated video card is directly under the copper plate.

Thanks again for your help! From downloading the manual and looking at the pictures the motherboard is slightly different and don't use a graphics fan but, it fits.

Best to you friend. We enjoy new members.Hope you visit often.

quote geforce 7800 guide:we suggest you connect both of the 2 power power cables on the grahpics card to
the power supply , to achieve optimal grahpics performance.

Ive found some pictures of my one..... theres 2 power cables missing , but my card itself is working fine , but is it possbile that this could be the reason of my lag not enough power feeding through into it

2 while cables missing from box when i purchased it......heres a little bit of extra art work ......... as you can see the white wire i have circled is what im talking about there is another one right next to it that isnt plugged in?

Solve : Computer will not consistently detect secondary hard drive.?

Answer»

Back again. It's just ONE problem after the other...

I recently formatted a brand new 80 gig hard drive and installed Windows XP Pro SP2 on it. This one is my main hard drive, and my secondary is a 200 gig. It's about two years old, and was brand new when I bought it. I would give you the specific details on it, but therein lies my problem. My computer boots FINE, and I can easily view and access files on my C drive, but I can very rarely access my D drive unless I restart several TIMES and check Explorer to see if it even shows up.

I thought maybe it was just a loose cord or something on the inside, but I've made sure everything was tightly where it should be, and it still does this. It is a problem for me because all of my music and videos and games and whatnot are stored there, and I have no access to them.

I am out of options at this point because I'm even less educated on computer hardware than I am software. I hope the answer I get isn't that my 200 gig is failing, because I just got to GO through that issue with a six-year-old hard drive (which is why I got this new one).

If any info is REQUIRED about the screwy HD to troubleshoot, let me know and I'll reboot my computer until it shows itself :|2 things you can do:

Replace the IDE ribbon cable...they do go bad.
DLoad and run the diagmostics from the drive manuf. website to make sure that drive is not failing.

The age of a drive is no indication of how healthy it is...

Solve : dancing speakers?

Answer»

i just got some NEW pc speakers and have set them up.
I have a problem.
The speaker with the power button and volume control is louder than the other speaker.
I have gone to control panel>sound and audio>speaker volume and have made sure that both the individual speakers volume is at the correct level which it is.

i can work around it by adjusting the right speaker volume less so it matches the already low left speaker but i feel this is sacrificing the speaker potential.

i have also noticed that when i turn the volume up quite high on the speakers then the left speaker suddenly GETS louder and begins to match the right however as soon as i turn the volume to a normal level the left goes quieter again.

i have tried the speakers on my phone and they play fine.

can anybody help?
thanks.

Do you have the audio cable plugged in all the way into the audio port on your computer? Plugged into the correct port? The audio out port is USUALLY green.
My first thought was actually that you have a bad set of speakers. If you have everything hooked up properly, you might have defective speakers. In that case, you should take them back and exchange them.yesterday. Have you gone into your volume controlls to ensure that your "balance" is set to provide equal volume to both sides? truenorthThe audio cable is plugged all the way in. i don't think the speakers are bad because they worked fine on another device

Truenorth: yes i have checked that the balance is level. Are there volume controls on one of the speakers ?
Did your sound work before this ?
Is this onboard sound or an addon card ?
If so how old is the card ?Yes there are volume controls on one of the speakers.
yes my sound worked before this.
Im not sure if i do have an addon or onboard sound card how do i check?
device manager?

if i do have one its probably about 5 years old.

thanks.
yesterday, If it is "on-board" it will be integrated to the motherboard and will appear usually (on the rear of the computer tower in close proximity to other "on board" devices IE: the mouse and keyboard ports etc. However if it is an "add on" it will be in another SLOT lower down in the computer as a PCI or AGP card (again visible on the rear of the tower). If you feel up to it(it is not difficult) after unplugging the computer and REMOVING the side of the tower that will give you visual access to it's content.(also be sure to discharge any static from yourself and the tower if you might touch any of the interior components). You will be able to see clearly what i have outlined above.good luck, truenorth

Solve : Optorite RW DD1205?

Answer»

Hi everyone
I hope everybody here is well.
If I may ask for a solution to a DVD problem, I have an Optorite WR DD1205 and it plays fine, but when I want to copy a DVD - it seems to go through all the motions, even says it copyed, but when I try to play the disc that was copied to - it won't play, my computer shows there is info on the disc, I am stumped.
If you can offer any help I would be greatful.
Thank you
BillThis sounds like you are not finalising the burn project...check in the burning program itself and make sure "multi-session" option is turned off...

BTW which program are you using to burn ? ?

Also you could DLoad and install IsoBuster which will read disks that haven't been finalised.

Hope this Helps.Hi
And thank you for responding so quickly.
Well, the programs I've been using always say it's finalizing the disc, and what I've been using for programs - are Nero ( which came with the DVD WR, and the other one I use from TIME to time is Cosmi DVD ripper Plus.
Normally I have done fine with them both, but for more then a month or so they will read ok, play DVD's, but not burn.
I've even gone as far as reinstalling everything, including windows XP, THINKING MAYBE my programs became comprimized.I don't BELIEVE DVD's can simply be copied...look into a program called DVDShrink...

Solve : SD-hc Card 4gb-error message when reading card!?

Answer»

Hiya,
Im new to this forum so please be patient if Im not 100% computer literate!

I thought I knew a little bit about computers until I have come across this and im stuck!!

I have bought a new digital camera with a SD/HC 4gb lexar card.
I have ALSO bought a new digital picture frame as a pressi for my parents for xmas.

Im having trouble getting the New sd/hc card to read in my laptop and my other pc they both have special little holes I can place them in .

The laptop just does not recognise it at all,
the pc has an error messege"I/O Device error"
I have even tried it in our Wii and it says "unusable"
In the digital frame it states "Bad Card"
Whats confusing me is that this card works in the Camera !!!!!

My laptop usually reads most cards including xd
I have had to UPLOAD the pics via a usb cable direct from the camera but this doesnt help me display them on the digital frame for my parents.

I also have ANOTHER added problem the SD 512mb CARD that came with the frame a display message appears on my laptop "card not formatted" and I can only use this one in the pc not the laptop!!! Im sick of running between the two .

Why do some cards work and other cards wont?
Also if I wanted to print the pics and take them to ASda or somewhere similar would this SD/HC 4GB CARD READ IN ONE OF THEIR PRINTING MACHINES?

Please help im going barmy with this one !!!!!

regarding your SDHC 4gb...

Quote

Products designed exclusively to support previous SD SPECIFICATIONS 1.0 and 1.1 will not be able to utilize SDHC cards.

found here.

from this information i believe we can safetly assume that although you have multiple card readers, none of them, except the one in the camera, can read SDHC cards.

Quote
a display message appears on my laptop "card not formatted"

have you tried formatting it?I havent tried formatting the SD card yet , what does this mean ?

If I format it will it stop working in other card readers and only work in my Laptop?

going back to the SD/HC card , if I had bought a cheaper lower memory card would this have worked?

OMG ...... iM SO CONFUSED!!!

Solve : monitor hook up problems?

Answer»

I just moved from one APARTMENT to another. My system was working fine before. When I hooked up the system in my new apartment, my monitor woudl not turn on, but instead would "blink" with a very quick BLUE screen, then immediately go black again. IT would do this every 10-15 seconds until the power was shut off.

I have re booted, and unplugged and replugged the monitor.

Any suggestions for me would be appreciated.

You may need to check the monitor's connections...

Also you may need to see if the video card CAME loose during the move.

Make SURE the computer is off when you make these checks...and if you're going inside the computer...protect it from ESD (Electrostatic discharge by keeping yourself grounded. Static electricity can fry a motherboard...so be careful.

WOW, holy crap that case looks nice. And nice graphics card too! I always wanted a computer case that lights up haha. I'm stuck with a DELL Dimension 4600 that's all OPAQUE black. The only thing that lights up is the power button haha.well, you will need to make an appointment with a therapist now. It is confirmed and you are "hooked" welcome to the never satisfied CLUB!!

Feels Good don't it!!! All I can say is............... WOW!!!!!!!!!! Nice case man!!! How much is that in US dollars??? Looks great! I'm jealous now! it's good to see the U.S school system is so strong !!

67.6691 US Dollars (USD) is equal to 49.99 Euro (EUR)

For anyone reading along:
There are lots of conversion apps online, and the one I find easiest to remember is..... www.google.com
Sometimes the syntax has to be just right.

Type 49.99 euro in USD = in Google and try it.

something like 30 kilometers in miles =
and 85 degrees fahrenheit in celsius =
are ALSO QUITE handy.
p.s.

I don't know if you can get Google to convert the weight of the escaped smoke to dollars needed for replacement parts though.

good -info Richenstony really happy for you.Ain't it nice, that in spite of

slave to a computer.I really love that case. And it's super cheap too. I think I will order it Congratulations on the awesome build, Tony! I was totally excited for you when I got your PM. Calum's right, you've definitely come a long way. I see a big difference between our first chats and now. It's good to see you building yourself such a nice machine. You've certainly got something worth bragging about to your friends. Heh. So, in total, how much do you think it all cost? Or are you too afraid to add it all up? Ha.askrock motherboard= £50

Intel pentium 4 chip =£17

geforce 7800= £100

power supply= £30

wireless microsoft keyboard and mouse = £44

5.1 external trust soundcard = £50

5.1 speaker system= £44

philips dvd writer = £60

1gb of ram 256 pin = £50

a grand total of £497

I personally think this computer is going so fast its untrue.... £500 pound well spentWow, not too shabby. A couple of those look a little expensive, but overall, £497 is a pretty good deal for that setup. I'm surprised you didn't get 2 GB of RAM, though. Intel pentium 4 chip =£17 - good deal
asrock motherboard= £50 - ripped off by the GUY richenstony was complaining about before
new case= £50 - expensive but it looks good
5.1 external trust soundcard = £50 - seems expensive to me for sure
philips dvd writer = £60 - that's the external one, right? I got one for around £40, but it's not too bad a deal

2Gb of RAM might have been nice but it was pretty expensive (DDR400 RAM).
It's easy to upgrade anyway.

Solve : PCIEX16 vs. PCIEX1_1?

Answer»

Everest lists the above two slots on my MB. What's the difference between the two?
Bus SPEED? What can I use PCIEX1_1 for?their bus speed as you said. they are also physically different. X1 having 14 pins and X16 having 164.

Quote

What can I use PCIEX1_1 for?

PCI-E X1 EXPANSION cards are still fairly new i believe, the only thing i have seen so far are PCI-E X1 sound cards. Thanks, homer.
I asked, because I'm PLANNING to buy TV tuner card. I have two slots available, regular PCI, and PCI-E X1 (PCIEX16 is taken by my video card).
I saw tuner cards designed for PCI-E X1, but I think, that I've read somewhere, if you have both PCI-E X1, and PCIEX16 busy, PCIEX16 speed cuts down to 8 (it may be for SOME MB, though).Quote from: Broni on January 19, 2008, 04:57:44 PM

i have never heard of this before. perhaps it is only with some mobos. it was not the case with my mobo, i had a PCI-E X1 sound card and a PCI-E X16 video card plugged in at the same time and i did not notice any lag on my video card.I have seen a lot of PCI-E X1 cads available - sound cards, network cards, TV cards, and so on.
It's basically a replacement SLOT for PCI - smaller, with more bandwidth, I believe.
They came out the same time as PCI-E X16, it's just that the slots other than X16 haven't really been mainstream news.
I think that the speed cutting you describe is only on some motherboards, similar to how some chipsets run SLI with one X6 and one X8, or other similar reductions in bandwidth.
Remember though that not al video cards use all the bandwidth available, even if yo cut the speed to X4 you may not notice a difference.
What chipset is your MB?what chipset is my mobo or Broni's? if your asking me then mines a 680i.Thanks for more info, guys.
My mobo's chipset: nVIDIA nForce 6100-4xx, AMD Hammer

Solve : Odd Question?

Answer»

I have a custom PC thats about 6 years old. I recently installed Windows XP Pro on it, and i've read on forums about issues with the wireless Card i have. The wireless card is a Microsoft (BROADCOM) MN-730. My question is I'm using a VERY old laptop to get information, but the laptop wont reconize a USB flash drive, it has no burner, i dont have a Floppy drive (or any other reasonable way to get the drivers from this laptop to my main PC. Any one have an suggestions as to how i can get these drivers ONTO my main PC so that maybe this century i can FINISH fixing this thing? I'm a tad burnt out with it and cant think on how to do this anymore! I will scream if one more person tells me to email the .exe file to myself :-)
Thanks all, hopefully this ISNT as stupid of an issue as i think it is...if it is feel free to laugh at me!From what I UNDERSTAND about your post is that you are trying to get a file from your laptop that has no floppy, cd burner, and USB flash drive doesn't work to copy over to your desktop pc?

Goto a relative or friends house and download the driver off the internet. Then put it on the flash drive or cd-r or whatever type of media you choose and copy it into your desktop. I just did a quick google search and this is the driver that I came up with.

http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/win/38627
Thats where i DL'd the driver from. I have a friend mailing me a CD with it, but i'm just impatient and wanted it fixed 2 days ago hehe. I will wait for the CD or see about getting a friend here with the driver!
Thanks a Ton!
