Solve : CPU or heatsink problem?? |
|
Answer» Quote from: tixsao on August 27, 2012, 10:06:22 AM 1. ...must have degraded over the years. These 2 statements indicate you are not applying the thermal paste in the proper manner. 1. You said the machine is 2 years old. Applied paste would not degrade in 2 years. Maybe you meant the paste in the tube is old, but you should be able to tell that when you apply it. It's either dried up & hard or it's still spreadable. 2. Get new paste & try again. I actually GOT a new heatsink instead and used that. Is the problem then the CPU itself as it SEEMS two different heatsinks have not solved it, although with the new one the temps are much lowerhttp://www.arcticsilver.com/pdf/appmeth/int/vl/intel_app_method_vertical_line_v1.1.pdfThat was very useful thanks. I removed the old heatsink, cleaned the remaining thermal paste off the CPU in the way described. I then put the new heatsink - which came with compound on it - on the cpu. Not entirely sure what i could have done. I did buy some thermal pads so could remove new heatsink and remove the stuff it came with put on a pad and try again....Quote from: tixsao on August 27, 2012, 01:24:23 PM I then put the new heatsink - which came with compound on it - on the cpu. Sometimes the compound has peel-off plastic protection which you NEED to remove before installing. I have seen this LEFT on. It was a pretty big plastic cover so its not that. Is it possible the problem is the CPU? Just seems odd that two different heatsinks have not fixed it, and the problem started before i had removed one of themQuote from: tixsao on August 27, 2012, 01:40:07 PM Is it possible the problem is the CPU?It is possible. Electronic components can become defective and overheat. However it would be expensive if you bought a new CPU to check by substitution and the new CPU overheated as well. Overvolting will heat up a CPU. You could check the vCore in the BIOS against specs or possibly a voltage REGULATOR on the motherboard has failed or degraded, feeding excess voltage to the CPU (I see it's a Foxconn) or maybe the PSU is faulty. Or maybe the heatsink is not installed properly or the compound not applied properly. You are not overclocking, are you? Whats the vcore? On the program i am using to monitor the temp its showing the power package as 95.00 W, is that the same thing? Thats a wattage rating # being reported...not a Temp...I thought that might be the vcore mentioned above I am not overclocking. I think i will try using the old heatsink with a new thermal pad and see what that does. Quote from: tixsao on August 27, 2012, 01:56:12 PM Whats the vcore? Let me Google that for you http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CPU_core_voltage http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/255958-11-core-stock-vcore-voltage etc etc You check and possibly set it in the BIOS. You can Google how to do that as well. You can monitor temps & voltages with www.hwinfo.com. Choose 32-bit or 64-bit depending on your OS.I think its finally solved now!! Removed heatsink, cleaned all compound off, reapplied it and now temps are not getting above 50 degrees even when gaming and playing a video and opening random documents all at the same time Its still a mystery as to why it occured in the first place, i had done nothing to the computer, hadnt opened it up or moved it when the CPU originally started overheating. At least it is solved now though. Thanks again |

Solve : Power Supply - Breaker Tripping? |
|
Answer» Hello All, My question is that is it possible for the PSU to degrade to the point of over drawing? Theoretically it should draw a MAX of around 6 amps. Much lower than the 15-20 amp threshold of the breaker. YES it is possible. That theoretical current draw would be based on a simple Watts = Volts x Amps calculation, and would be what you would expect once the computer is up and running and drawing a steady current. However all PSUs draw a larger current at the moment of powering up. With a good 600 Watt PSU the switch-on surge is unlikely to hit 20 amps but one that is failing could draw a bigger surge. If other items are connected to that circuit and drawing current your PSU could be the final straw for the breaker. Some breakers are more sensitive than others. That is, if the breaker is a simple over-current type. If it is a ground leakage or arc sensing type these are much more likely to trip on a slight overcurrent, and in fact your PSU could have DEVELOPED a small leak to ground which would trip that type of breaker. You could try the PC on a different circuit, and if it didn't trigger a trip that could point to an abnormally sensitive breaker feeding your room, but it might be a hard job convincing the maintenance people of that. Also a quick survey of PSU comments on modders and overclockers forums suggests that Sunbeam make cheap PSUs not noted for reliability. Words like "junk" appear often. I found a terrible review of a Sunbeam 580W PSU on a hardware reviews site. Salmon - sorry, on my mobile so quote isn't available. The Sunbeam 580 is terrible, yes, but the 680 appears to be a rebranded OCZ - so not fantastic, but it could be a lot worse. Sunbeam, like Rosewill and a few others, is a very variable PSU brand, they rebadge some utter junk, some half decent stuff, and some amazing units too, so research is key. Just wanted to add that in case it comes in handy sometime in the future. Thanks, Calum. Yes, Sunbeam are rebadgers as you noted. I believe the core of the OP's query is "Is it possible for a PSU to degrade in function to the extent that it trips a 20 Amp breaker?" and the answer has to be a definite "Yes, it is possible", whatever the brand. A failing or out-of-spec PSU can trip a GFCI (ground fault circuit interruptor) or AFCI (arc fault circuit interruptor) even if the current is within overcurrent limits, so determining the breaker type and trying the equipment out on another circuit might be a good idea. I see that since 1999 (USA) and 2002 (Canada) wiring codes have mandated the use of AFCIs to feed any circuit in the "bedroom" of a "dwelling unit". I would guess that a university apartment might well use protection that is very much to code. I'm sorry if I gave the wrong impression with my post, my intention wasn't to take anything away from your quite correct reply. As we've both stated, it's very possible for a failing PSU to trip a circuit breaker regardless of whether the PSU's nominal maximum draw would be able to do so, and regardless of the PSU's quality or lack thereof. You obviously know a lot more about electrical circuits, breakers, and standards than I do, hence my statement was a lot more general. I merely wanted to add that Sunbeam don't solely rebadge bad units, but some half-decent and some better ones too - not that it has any bearing on the topic as regardless of the quality, the PSU in the OP isn't working properly (or the circuit has an issue, which admittedly I hadn't considered). Apologies for GOING slightly off topic, it wasn't important.I'll just stray a bit off topic on this and state i'm pretty dissappointed with some of the stalwart names of the PSU industry doing more and more re-branding... Names mean literally nothin now.Unfortunately it's inevitable when there are only a few PSU manufacturers, of which fewer still sell units under their own names. I agree though, in the last few years some previously good brands have started rebranding worse and worse units - Corsair to name a major offender.Quote from: Calum on August 27, 2012, 02:14:22 PM I'm sorry if I gave the wrong impression with my post I didn't see anything wrong with your post... I must be having one of those days then heh, no harm done |

Solve : PC doesn't work anymore? |
|
Answer» Hi Gigabyte GA-MA78GM-UD2H When i turn it on the fans are running but most of the time my monitor doesnt get a signal. When i turned it on today it booted fine again but the my monitor lost signal after 20 seconds. So i let it cool down and turned it on and went in BIOS. Loaded default settings(pc wasn't overclocked) and checked CPU temps. Quote CPU temps: 28 degrees Monitor lost signal again in bios after 20 seconds. I checked all cables and they all were fine and i pulled 1 ram out but that didn't solve the problem. Also when this happends(no signal on my monitor) i can't shutdown the pc using the on/off button. Thanks! PS: i'm using my onboard videocard of my motherboard, there are no beep codesGood morning weeman and welcome to CH So this is a recent build and was running normal if so have you seen any error messages / bsod etc When the monitor has no signal is the tower running and the case LIGHTS stay on or it the PC shutting down like BAM and it is off From what you are putting in the post you may have a bad PS (power supply) what model is the PS on the label and how much is the wattage? Hope to hear from you soon, Mike Can you try a graphics card in your computer to rule this out? I would also try just one STICK of ram at a time.Quote from: hartbeatmr on August 17, 2012, 05:15:47 AM Good morning weeman and welcome to CH Thank you! I build this pc 3 years ago and it worked fine till now. The tower stays on and the fans stay on when this happends. So the PC doesn't shutdown itself. My PSU is a : OCZ StealthXStream 500 watt after changing it with the PSU i got in this PC the CPU fan didnt work. Based also on other forums i think the PSU killed all the parts. I tried one stick of ram or just no ram but it doesn't work and my motherboard doesnt make any sound at all. I can try a graphic card but since my other PSU will not boot the motherboard i'm scared to do that. I'm gonna order new parts and spend some more money on good quality PSU so this doesn't happen again. Quote from: weeman on August 17, 2012, 05:05:25 AM ...1. Not PSU. 2. Temp is normal. 3. Not PSU. 4. Perform Memtest on RAM.I am a bit confused here to be honest because on one hand you say the computer doesn't boot anymore and then you say it boots for only 20 seconds. I then say test card..etc and you say you don't want to do that because the motherboard doesn't work? How did it boot for 20 secs if indeed the motherboard is dead?It did boot for 20 seconds but that happend in the morning of the next day when the pc was broken. It booted 2-3 times but then it didn't boot anymore. So it stopped working, in the end i think that the parts were still working when the pc worked for 20 seconds, but after many tries the PSU just burned all parts. So i buyed a new PSU,MOBO,ram, proc and its working againVery unlikely that a psu would burn all your parts, I don't see how it would do that, but atleast you got it going. |

Solve : New PC start-up problems? |
|
Answer» Hey, I recently got a new iBUYPOWER GAMER POWER TG500 Gaming PC shipped today, and am having trouble with getting it to work properly. Remove any cd's or floppy discs and rebootYou must disable the floppy drive in your BIOS as Allan suggested. But first, remove the CMOS battery for a couple of minutes for a hardware RESET. Floppy drive enabled or dis-abled shouldn't interfere with HDD detection...Try out this : Restart your computer. Immediately after the screen goes blank for the first time, press the F8 key repeatedly. The Windows Advanced Options menu appears. If the menu does not appear, restart your computer and try again. Use the cursor keys on your keyboard (your mouse will not work) to select Last Known Good Configuration, and then press Enter. If you recently installed new hardware, shut down your computer and disconnect the hardware. Then, restart Windows 7 and troubleshoot your hardware to get it working properly. See if it works on your PC. I havent tried it on gaming PCs. |

Solve : How can I change the mail hotkey from Outlook to GMail on my Logitech K260?? |
|
Answer» Dear Experts, You can change key assignments in the Logitech Mouse & Keyboard Settings if you installed the Logitech driver. How can I do that?Open up the driver applet - you'll see how to do it.Quote from: Allan on August 24, 2012, 08:09:16 AM Open up the driver applet - you'll see how to do it.I presume open the driver applet means go to Control Panel then Devices then Keyboards. But my keyboard comes as unknown device. When I select it and click on hardware properites and go to the drivers part, they tell me all the drivers are up to date when i try to update them. Worst of all. the computer thinks that the keyboard is manufactured by Microsoft. When I click for driver details, they tell me there are no driver files in the computer. Please help me guys!A quick forum search for Logitech K260 suggests (others have asked this before) that there is no way to remap the keys. This is a very cheap wireless keyboard. The problem is that the email key opens your system default email program which apparently is Outlook. Gmail is a web based mail service that you access through your browser. The best you are going to get is to configure Outlook to use Gmail with POP/SMTP. Or if you have Google as you homepage then there will be a link to your Gmail account at the top. If the keyboard doesn't COME with or support a Logitech driver than Salmon Trout's post is absolutely correct.http://forums.logitech.com/t5/Keyboards-and-Keyboard-Mice/Reassigning-K260-Keyboard-and-Mouse-Combo-and-Why-is-the-model/td-p/700062 Logitech's Setpoint software doesn't support that keyboard. Reply 6, from moderator and Logitech employee (so an official response?): Quote 11-27-2011 10:38 AM However, you could try some third-party remapping software and see if you can get it to do what you want that way. Otherwise, I'd have to say there's not much you can do about it.Guys one last try, will offline GMail help? No. That just allows Gmail to still be used when you don't have a connection. However, as I believe was ALREADY mentioned, you can configure Outlook to work with Gmail. http://support.google.com/mail/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=13273Quote from: quaxo on August 24, 2012, 11:41:35 PM as I believe was already mentioned, you can configure Outlook to work with Gmail. Or Mozilla Thunderbird (in some ways better than Outlook) http://www.guidingtech.com/2219/set-up-gmail-in-thunderbird/ http://lifehacker.com/314574/turn-thunderbird-into-the-ultimate-gmail-imap-client I thought I would check out the tip I gave above: I tried installing Mozilla Thunderbird on my laptop (XP), and making it work with Gmail, and I have to say that it was one of the quickest and easiest things I have ever done. It took about 3 minutes. I downloaded Thunderbird and installed it. I checked the box to make it the default email client, supplied my Gmail address and password; told it to remember the password; set check for new mail interval to 1 minute; checked "check for new messages at startup"; Thunderbird did the rest. It downloaded all my folders and messages from Gmail. You can zoom to see this picture better: |

Solve : Full build questions;? |
|
Answer» Ok, I have an array of questions as I am quite literally in the middle of my first build and a little confused. By "included sound/network card." do you mean the Game Blaster of the chipset? If it's the chipset, god *censored* xD I'm going to have to remove my GPU's and Radiator The Game Blaster, yeah. I love how Asrock included it, using a PCI-E X1 slot, and only included one such slot so you have no option as to where to put it. Very considerate of them. Quote On the third answer, It's not a necessity, but would it increase performance? Won't make any DIFFERENCE to the performance at all. It's only needed when there are a few power hungry cards installed, to save them drawing too much power through the board and burning out the 24 pin connector (very rare, but can HAPPEN - not with a setup like yours though). Quote Sort of out of topic with the thread, but is there any RAM Coolers that support the ASRock X79 Extreme9, I purchased a G.Skill cooler but dang heatsync pipes of the motherboard won't allow it to fit As in, an additional cooler that fits over the RAM? Which G.Skill cooler do you have? There may be a slightly less bulky cooler that might fit, but with the design/layout of your board it is pretty awkward. Quote Thank you for your answers. No problem.Just actually managed to squeeze the Game Blaster in between the 2 GPU's, it's a tight fit and cuts half off the first Slot card's fan but It should be managable. Also, I have the G.Skill Turbulence II, I don't think it'll be really required as there are more fans in the case then there are hairs on my chest but I just figured it'd be a good safety measure. I Think I found the Molex to floppy, Not as long as I would have liked, and why does it have 3 of those 4 pin weird things from before my time? xD Also, my front 230MM fan has 1 of those large 4 pin inline options, should I use it or just use the connectors which are actually from my generation? What is a good way to check is the Antec Kuhler 620 is working? Don't want to let it go through a full bootup if the cooler isn't working. (Sorry about so many questions, Just don't want to go and wreck a computer before I even use it)Quote from: BennyF on August 24, 2012, 02:05:49 PM Also, I have the G.Skill Turbulence II, I don't think it'll be really required as there are more fans in the case then there are hairs on my chest but I just figured it'd be a good safety measure. Those RAM coolers aren't necessary, unless you like the looks. The RAM will run nice and cool at its rated 1.5V, especially with good airflow which the HAF has. Looking at it more closely, I don't think there's a RAM cooler available that will fit properly unfortunately. Quote I Think I found the Molex to floppy, Not as long as I would have liked, and why does it have 3 of those 4 pin weird things from before my time? xD Found a picture here for you, the adapter is the second from bottom on the left. They are pretty short heh, makes it a pain when you do need to use them, but thankfully floppy connectors are barely used any more - at least they're not on the cable with the Molex connectors for once! Which are the "weird 4 pin connectors" though? Quote Also, my front 230MM fan has 1 of those large 4 pin inline options, should I use it or just use the connectors which are actually from my generation?Makes no difference how it's connected, from memory it can use either a Molex or a 3 pin fan connector, which you choose is entirely up to you. Quote What is a good way to check is the Antec Kuhlmer 620 is working? Don't want to let it go through a full bootup if the cooler isn't working.Just load up into the BIOS and check the temperatures, if it's constantly rising then the pump isn't working. It'll vibrate (a little or a lot, depending how sensitive you are) but that doesn't necessarily mean it's working. Just a quick tip, if you didn't already know - make sure the 3 pin connector from the pump isn't on the CPU fan header, it won't work properly from there. Quote (Sorry about so many questions, Just don't want to go and wreck a computer before I even use it) No need to apologise, better to ask and be sure. I've built a lot of computers in my time so I don't mind answering any questions.*censored* those cables are short, Just went and found the right 1 and gave it a look, I think I can rule out cable magament on that 1. With the CPU Fan header, is there any particular 3 pin i should plug it into or just a normal fan header? Quote from: Calum on August 24, 2012, 02:14:26 PM Which are the "weird 4 pin connectors" though? It's the floppy thing xD, I Suppose I never actually looked inside a case until last year so probably not weird to someone who's been in them for ages.Just a normal 3 pin header will be fine, it's just if you plug it into the CPU fan header the board sometimes varies the voltage even if you disable speed control, which damages the pump. Yeah, those floppy connectors are pretty old now heh.The only pins the pump would reach were PWRFAN, hopefully that's ok otherwise the only other option i'v got is the Fan Controller I Feel quite sad, out of all the Cosair cables, so far only the main 24p has been long enough to tuck through the back, and even then it only just made it sadly due to this I had to remove the 120mm fan duct, is this going to seriously effect me? The PWR header will be fine, yes, that's often the only other header within reach and I've used it many times. As for the cable length, they can be an issue in a very large case like the HAF X. It won't affect your cooling having removed the fan duct, but if you want to tuck the cables away a little better, NZXT and Bitfenix do nicely braided cable extensions which might help, I've used both myself in various builds. |

ARMA 2 is a fairly demanding game, and your computer's power supply won't power a video card that's powerful enough to run the game well. Additionally, ARMA's game engine is very CPU intensive, and your CPU simply isn't up to the task. If you do have a half decent graphics card in there, you'll be able to play on medium/low settings, but it's unlikely your graphics card (if you have one and it's not just the onboard, it could vary) will handle it. Sorry. N.B. SItes like canyourunit.com can be helpful, but are notoriously inaccurate in some regards. It's FINE to use it as a baseline, but I wouldn't trust it absolutely. |

Answer» Does anyone know where I can get a bay for a hot swap scsi drive? I have a old server that has 2 SCSI drives. About once a year one of them goes bad and has to be replaced. The problem is to get to the drives takes about 3 hours of ripping STUFF apart to get at them. What I want to do is put in 2 bays that I can get at from the front of the machine. This way when a drive gives up the ghost I can just swap it out and SETUP the mirror again. |

Solve : Virtual Memory?????????? |
|
Answer» I hope i'm in the right section to ask this question. SOMETIMES when using the system, at the task bar, a message appears saying "Virtual Memory is low- ...", please can someone give me an elaborate explanation of what that means and how to increase virtual memory, if possible. Thanks. When you GET that error, it means that you don't have enough installed RAM or that you have too many PROGRAMS running. You can find what kind of memory you need at www.crucial.com if you want to buy more. Or you can delete some startup programs in msconfig. To do this, go to Start -> Run and type in msconfig. Then go to the last tab and uncheck items that you don't need. (Post back for help with that) I thought so but wasnt sure if I remembered it right or not. It will start using the Harddrive for space an it is too good of a thing an will slow down the PROCESSING. |

Solve : Diagnosing Hardware Failure? |
|
Answer» Ok, you may want to test the memory, this is one of the most common failures with new systems. I know that I was taught this at one time, but my memory is rather volatile at the moment... How do I do this again? Quote from: soybean on April 30, 2008, 08:41:37 AM I'm not sure, but I'm wondering whether removing that RAID controller and trying into Win 98 with your hard drive connected to an IDE connector on the motherboard would work. Might be worth a try, as a troubleshooting step. When I first started this odyssey, that was the first thing I thought might be wrong (I kept getting 'Ultra100 Bios 2.01 build 35 not installed-no drives installed' message at bootup). I saw lots of advice about removing the drive and/or the controller, but I never understood how to do that. When I attached the 20 gig drive to the controller, the startup message went away. So, how do I remove the RAID controller? Thanks for the ideas! Is that RAID controller integrated into the motherboard, or is it an add-on card, a card installed in a PCI slot? I can't find the motherboard you mentioned. Seems like you did not provide the exact model number. Can you visit http://www.asus.com/ and search for it?The RAID controller is integrated into the mobo. I forgot to mention that. sorry. The closest thing I can find on the motherboard is here: http://www.ocworkbench.com/hardware/asus/a7v/a7vp1.htm The picture on the first page there resembles the mobo in question, except that the processor fan is nowhere near as big on mine. Again, the processor is an AMD Athlon 1050 MHz.Quote from: cleireac on April 30, 2008, 08:18:09 AM The machine is a Asus Atv rev. 1.02 mobo with an AMD Athlon 1050 cpu. Have you successfully installed Win 98 from that CD before now? Is that Win XP Home edition disk a Genuine Microsoft disk? You say the computer hangs up during the install and goes no further. Does it just stop? Any error message? How long did you wait before concluding that the system had hung? Quote from: soybean on April 30, 2008, 12:57:29 PM So, it's an A7V, not an "Atv". What makes you think it has RAID built-in? The link you posted says nothing about RAID. Sorry, I fat fingered the name, yes, it is an A7V. It has a Promise ATA-100 chip next to (below) the second set of sockets. When I BEGAN, I kept getting an Ultra100 Bios error, which when I investigated led me to believe there was a RAID controller. Quote from: soybean on April 30, 2008, 12:57:29 PM How did you run Scandisk? I tried booting from the CD, which kicked into Scandisk. Then after I formatted the HDs, the installation CDs initiated Scandisk. Quote from: soybean on April 30, 2008, 12:57:29 PM Have you successfully installed Win 98 from that CD before now? Yes. How long did you wait before concluding that the system had hung? For the most part, it just stops. Occasionally, I do get an error message (that flashes too quickly to read), then initiates restart. When it hangs, I have waited anywhere from a handful of minutes to nearly an hour. I checked to see if it was processing or was truly hung by toggling the Number Lock key. |

Solve : A blue sreen? |
|
Answer» I fitted a Ram chip in my IBM DESKTOP machine and when i boot the machine, it SHOWED a blue screen. When I fitted the original Ram that was there, I still had a blue sreen. please how do I COME out of this situation.Help me.I am using windows 2000.What type of RAM did you install and what type does the machine take ? ? is this a case of clearing the memory when changing over ram??...You're confusing clearing RAM with clearing CMOS memory.Meanwhile...he hasn't returned...which MAKES all this speculation. The RAM I am using is, 16M*64 SDRAM. 128MB. DDR. 133MHZ. CL2 AND 128MB. DDR. PC2100. CL2.5. 2.5V V (16MX64). I am using IBM desktop. model 831354. serial: KDFF3MV Blue screen error code: ***STOP: 0x000000A5 (0x00000001,0x818ac5a8,0x00000000,0x00000000) The Ram is properly seated.Quote from: sirhums on October 12, 2010, 04:43:03 AM The RAM I am using is, Woah, take about old Did it BSOD before replacing it with the new ones? Could it be IBM RAM set specific parameters to only accept certain vendors of RAM? Or maybe not even accept any new RAM at all? Have you googled any details to your computer model? I would believe old computers, specially retail assembled wouldn't want consumers to be able to interchange components within, thus to keep up their business. you may have bent a pin The cause of the A5 Stop message is always errors in the ACPI BIOS. There is nothing that you can fix at the level of the operating system. Here is what MS says about that particular argument (the 0x00000001) in the A5 stop message: This argument is defined as an ACPI root resources FAILURE. More specifically, ACPI could not find the system control interrupt (SCI) vector in any of the resources that ACPI received at startup. SCI is a special interrupt type that provides a more efficient way to deal with problems that are normally handled by system management interrupts (SMI). If SCIS cannot be initialized, ACPI cannot function. This can occur if no entry for this IRQ is found in the list or if no IRQ resource list was found at all. Reset your CMOS. Try updating your BIOS.I suspect an install of the wrong RAM..... But i've been wrong before... |

Solve : Hdd compatibility question? |

Answer» I have a Panacom LDR104U 4 Channel DVR Combo which is a security camera/surveylance system. It comes with a 160Gb HDD (pata) installed. Whilst it works well the hdd is not 'big' enough for my needs. I have a new 320 Gb pata/ide (Maxtor) hdd which I would like to install but am told the format is different for PC hard drives from DVR drives. Is this so? if so can it be converted? The unit also has a USB PORT for a pen drive backup, but I cannot get this side of things to work. I understand this is not strictly a 'Computer' problem, but if I can install the 320 Gb HDD I would not need to 'backup', if you know what I MEAN!. I think it works on the same principle as a TV TYPE DVR. Any help would be Greatly APPRECIATED. Many thanks in ADVANCE. Didn't see your unit listed...however the guide below may shed some light... |

Solve : LCD Monitor - Doubled Image of Everything? |

Answer» It worked! Thanks you GUYS. Stupid HP, they sent a vga cable with an adapter on it, and the adapter didn't even have all the pins. It was missing maybe 9 pins in the middle of the set, the guy at Fry's said that was for RUNNING an analog signal. The full pin set is for digital, like what I am running from my computer to my monitor. I'm gonna call HP and tell them they should pay for my cable (42 bucks!) Solve : Computer is crashing and cannot reboot? |
|
Answer» Hello GUYS,I'm back. My issue now is that when I came to my computer today it seemed to be on with the green power light and the red light usually pops on when there is activity, but the system seems to be off with the green power light still on and screen is black. So I tried to reboot and all seemed fine at first then it went out again. Each time I restarted the computer it got worse to the point of it crashing right after th welcome screen. And if I wait for an hour it might go to the desktop for a minute before crashing again. I tried a system restore and still the same and I cannot get into safemode to run the anti spyware scan. Can you please give me some advice as to how to get around this issue, like when I waited an hour I tried to be fast and run the antispy but they said it was CORRUPT. I am currently on my iphone because my laptop is down too. My pc is win xp. Please help. Thanks! What is new or different since the last time everything worked properly (ie, new hw, new sw, virus, ERROR, etc)? Thanks for replying. No new hardware but I did download a java update and then this happened. I was getting an error message jche or something like that. The reason I posted this in the virus thread is because I had similar issue before and when I ran my anti virus scan I still had the malware but the system would not crash. Then superdave helped me get rid of the malware so I thought this was the same issue. I have now waited a few hours before trying to reboot so I am going to try to run a registry scan malware bytes scan and a antispym scan.I hope it doesn't crash this time. But I will leave update. ThanksBoot to SAFE mode and uninstall ALL instances of Java... |

Answer» Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16832116754 ... This one? http://www.memtest.org/ Quote ... Find the online FORUM, run by Asus. Post there, with all your specs, and ask Asus for *their* recommendation, for voltage settings, etc. I bet Corsair has one too. Find it, and post there... same thing. Ask about ram settings, for that ram, in your exact motherboard. See what Corsair recommends. (Hopefully it will be the same settings as Asus recommended) Watch closely, to be sure you are getting a response from a company rep. I used memtest86. I do not think there is an issue with the RAM. Those voltages are not for the RAM. I found them in the bios under Power/hardware monitor. The voltages do not change when I remove ram. Nor can I set the voltages to anything. Quote from: thwhisler on October 16, 2010, 07:00:29 PM I used memtest86. Ok. Quote Nor can I set the voltages to anything. oh. Ok. I misunderstood then. I'm not actually entirely sure what the voltages are indicative of. |
