Solve : system properties information process not show? |
Answer» Hi i have problem in system properties Some one Help me Here link for the Pic http://file14.9q9q.net/preview/55589154/NSA8.JPG.htmlIs this a legitimate copy of Windows XP or counterfeit?i thank is a legitimate copy coz i can do updata Tell the truth..... it's not is it?the display shown there has absolutely NOTHING to do with the legitimacy of the windows Install. That information can be missing depending on the various changes that can be made by Hardware vendors... if some of the keys are present, but empty, windows will try to show the information that it believes the vendor wants displayed (for example, the logo, the model number, etc, but is actually a blank value. since it displays this "blank" value instead of the actual PC specs as it normally would you END up missing info. is there a file, C:\windows\system32\oeminfo.inf? If so delete it. Quote from: BC_Programmer on July 31, 2009, 06:42:39 PM the display shown there has absolutely NOTHING to do with the legitimacy of the windows Install. I'm not in any way talking about his picture just his last quote Quote from: nsa on July 31, 2009, 06:27:28 PM i thank is a legitimate copy coz i can do updataQuote from: BC_Programmer on July 31, 2009, 06:42:39 PM the display shown there has absolutely NOTHING to do with the legitimacy of the windows Install. BC , I based my reply on the fact there was no software registration number on the display.thanx Man for support have good day either way it is irrelevant to the issue. we don't help when the problem is that the OS is pirated but if they are having minor issues with an OS install I don't see how an inquiry about their OS legitimacy is relevant. For example if somebody says they can't seem to make a perfect circle in paint would we tell them to hold shift or would we ask them if their OS is pirated? In this case the issue is fairly minor; basically a little tidbit of missing data. (perhaps Karnac did some research and concluded that the issue can be caused by a pirated install? (and in fact, it can. the OEMINFO.INF file I mentioned is present in a large number of pirated distributions of windows as a way of "CUSTOMIZING" the OS.) However I find it silly to pursue the path of inquiry when the issue can be SOLVED without a INTERROGATION as to the legitimacy of their OS. LOL! Quote from: Karnac on July 31, 2009, 06:52:21 PM
oh er... yeah, I totally saw that... I was going to remove the stuff above, but I think it's kind of funny now. heh, it may as well say, "windows XP pirated edition" at the top. It's almost surely pirated. However this raises another issue; if their problem is easily solvable- if their OS is pirated are we really being fair in withholding that information anyway? What do you think? I say... |

Solve : Problem With Windows XP? |

Answer» Hello everyone! [cough]piracy[/cough]Don't hate lover Try putting .avi at the endWould this not work? "Tools -> FOLDER Options -> View" Scroll to Hidden files and folders and untick hide extensions for KNOWN file types. At that POINT it should show your video as (title).(extension) then if you were to merely change the title and not the extension I'm thinking that WOULD work? |

Solve : Upgrading to Vista? |
Answer» I am looking to upgrade my home system to the modern age. I am currently running Windows XP SP3 and do not have ENOUGH RAM to operate efficiently and I am also networked to another windows XP using a wireless adapter. ... will I run into any conflicts or problems that would warrant upgrading the mother unit?Uh..., what is the "mother unit"?Quote I am currently running Windows XP SP3 and do not have enough RAM to operate efficiently if your running XP and don't have enough RAM to operate efficiently, I doubt you'll even be able to install Vista, let alone run it well.THANKS guys for your replies, Sorry, 1st let me re-innerate, I am planning on replacing my current puter with a new unit ( which of course most comes with Vista installed ), 2nd the (mother unit ) is also running XP and does have enough RAM to run efficiently. I am looking to replace my unit with a faster system with at least 3 gigs of RAM. Once again, Thanks for all of the help,,,,,,,,, EvereadyOBTW, The (Mother unit) is the wife's puter which I am networked to. I share printer and other accesssories via wireless adapter and router. Again, ThanksOK, you're getting a new computer with 3GB of RAM and the wife has a slow machine, one with insufficient memory. For the sake of avoiding marital discord, why not do something to speed up wife's computer? Sorry sir,, I thought that I had mentioned that her unit was newer unit and running efficiently,, mine is the PROBLEM. I just want to make sure that I do not have a conflict between the two operating systems. ThanksThere will be no "conflicts" with the 2 computers if you home network contains a router. You do have a router, don't you.Yes, we are using a wireless router, and your kung fu is GOOD, but I am using IE8The choices are: 1. Buy a new computer now with Vista. 2. Buy a new computer now with Windows XP. 3. Wait 3 months to buy a new computer with Windows 7. IMHO, #1 is not an option.why not? |

Solve : Does a new hard drive mean a new copy of XP?? |
Answer» I have a computer with a failing HARD drive, and I need to replace it. Continuing to use it is not an option. I am concerned, however, that replacing it (by buying a new drive and a device to transfer the data from the old to the new drive) will cause XP to invalidate itself. To my knowledge, XP has a 'feature' which creates a checksum of the system's hardware upon installation. If that checksum differs too greatly with a checksum created, say, at boot, then XP will invalidate itself and I will have to buy a new copy of XP. (Right?) |

Answer» I posted a topic similar to this earlier but it was on the wrong board and I probably didn't ask my question properly. OK here's my question: I have two operating systems installed on two separate drives, Vista Home Premium on the C DRIVE was installed by default, but I downgraded to XP SP2 and I installed it's contents to my H drive and at the moment currently USING XP. Solve : Computer will not complete boot? |
Answer» Last night we had thunderstorms roll through our area. We had intermitent power outages and during one of them, I instructed the computer to shut down. In the process of shutting down, we had a power failure that lasted the whole night. Upon getting to my computer this morning, it was going through the startup sequence, WOULD get as far as the boot SCREEN, then power down and go through the whole sequence again. During the next boot up, a screen appeared asking me to SELECT the mode that I last started successfully in and I tried the normal mode. Then it would shut down. I tried booting up in safe mode (one of the options) and again it would re-start itself. I could not get to the windows screen at all. I can get into recovery mode but it says that it will erase all data on the HDD and I have files on there that I need to recover as well. Unfortunately, I did not back up the computer since I got it 2.5 years ago. |

Solve : Error msg - Windows cannot find....? |
Answer» HELLO I have a number of HTML pages and their associated images in a folder (or several folders in a sort of tree structure) on my desktop. When I click on the 'index.html' file I get an error message: Windows cannot find 'C:\Documents and Settings\ etc etc. Make sure you typed the name correctly'. SINCE I am actually double-clicking on the file I am hoping to open I do not need to search for it by name. Then, after the error message appears (it stays until I click OK), the html page OPENS anyway. How can I get rid of the error message, please? Thanks. Try moving the HTML file into another folder, does it still SHOW an error?Hello wyattsoft Thanks for your reply. The way the files were set up when I posted my message here was as follows: 1 folder called manin folder with the index.html file and a few associated images inside it. There are 4 folders inside this manin folder. So, inside the main folder I have a 'loose' html index file and 4 images and 4 sub-folders. After posting here, I created a folder to put the index file in (plus the images), but Windows still gives me the error - it can't find the html file that I am actually clicking on. So, I have moved the index file on its own to the desktop and right-clicked it and selected 'Open'. Id does open the page, but I still get the 'cannot find' error! Solve : I need to add memory? |
Answer» Hello again guys and thanks for all the help. You already have 1-256MB, you can add:Safest approach here is to get modules no larger than 256MB. If the maximum memory the system supports is 768MB, with 3 slots, each slot may only support up to 256MB. Thanks a load guys, One more question b4 I orded these babys. The product list of MEMORY-UP lists 256MB - 333 Mhz and 256MB- 400 Mhz. It also mentions mixing speeds in the tips section. The scan doesn't show my speed now. Do I need to know it and which do I order? bucxSo, you don't know whether your existing 256MB is PC2700 or PC3200, right? As the tips section said, you can mix the two speeds but the system will run at the slower speed, i.e. at the speed of the PC2700 memory.I just ordered a IGB memory stick from MEMORY-UP. The guy in tech support said one slot would handle it and my system would handle it. When it arrives I will attempt install myself, Gulp. Many thanks to everyone who assisted this inexperienced operator in arriving at a solution. Karnac , patio, soybean , BC_programmer , Computer_Commando, you are all GREAT. thanks so much. $35 for 1GB is a decent price for DDR-3200. One of my P4's uses the same type. I have 4 slots and it supports Dual Channel. I got 2 1-GB for $70. Today, NewEgg has 2-1GB DDR-3200 PNY's for $40 after $20 rebate. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820178101 Too bad you missed it, always check NewEgg first. |

Solve : Can't Access My External Hard Drive? |
Answer» My PC would not boot because it was missing the NTLDR or NT Loader, so I tried the standard REPAIR CONSOLE and copying the ntldr from my windows XP CD and it would not copy it. At this point I just switch out the C: Drive with another and reinstalled Windows XP on it. Now Windows is working fine, but I THOUGHT I would just put the old C: drive with XP and all my data on it in a external HD case and access like an external hard drive. I t does show up and it reads the properties, but when I try to open it it says can not access the external drive. Is there anyway or any program that will allow me to access the drive without reformatting it? Thanks for your help. Please post the exact message displayed. |

Solve : no Local Area Connection and hence no internet? (solved! thanks so much!)? |
Answer» Hi there, List as much about your computer as possible. This includes operating system (what version of Windows you are using), service packs, computer make/model, RAM, hard drive, sound and video cards, current adware/spyware/virus programs being used on a regular basis, do you have a "real" Windows CD, etc.hi yeah sorry, yeah i reinstalled the operating system - windows XP pro (not the original disc that was installed on it, but still all legit)... umm its an ASUS computer... don't know much about it to be honest as it was given to me, but its a really good computer.... lol. Click Start then Run and type in: devmgmt.msc and press enter. This will take you device manger. Do you see any yellow "?" or "!" If so you will need a driver for that device. you computer should have came with a driver disk. If you dont have it, then your computer manufacturers website should have the drivers available for download.JJ 3000, thankyou soooo much!!! found the motherboard disc, installed the drivers, hey presto internet!!! much appreciated! thank you thank you thankyou!!!No problem. Glad to hear you got it going. |

Solve : No Display on windows boot? |
Answer» Hi ppl, Do you know how I can add devices through recovery console? You can't.My monitor is hooked to to the output of the g-card and I have one of them each on my motherboard and my graphic card.Hook it up to the onboard video. FOLLOW the instructions for booting into safe mode. Once in travel to Control Panel, find the add on card and right click it and select remove/uninstall. Travel to Add/Remove programs and remove any software installed with the new card. Then follow the instructions in the READ Me file on the video cards installation CD and start again. NOTE: You MAY have to physically remove the card but you shouldn't have to with most cards. P.S. I repeat this quite often but it bears ANOTHER repeat: New drivers are not always BETTER drivers. If you are looking to boost gaming performance consider upgrading the card... |

Solve : Formatting HDD... first time.? |
Answer» I am probably going to FORMAT my Hard Drive this week. is there anything I should know? How long will it take? Probably most important... how do I do it? lol.You will lose all of your data. Make sure you have GOOD backup before you start. Have your drivers disk ready. The first thing you want to do, after the WIPE, is make sure all of your drivers loaded. If you dont have the disk, your computer manufacturers website should have them avaialbe for download. If you have any USB devices make sure you install the driver before the DEVICE! If you have an external hard drive of flash drive unplug them before you wipe out the machine. The very next thing you want to do, after you have all of your drivers, is go to Windows Update and get all of the updates that are available for your computer. You will have to restart a few times but just keep going back untill it stops finding updates. |

Solve : XP crashed need help? |
Answer» yesterday, I turned on computer and it would not come up. COULD not go to safemode or anything. When I did a sytem restore (Gateway Desktop) igot,"NTLDR compressed". Restart computer which then only put me in a loop of this over and over. So got a tech at gateway to try to help. he sent me "NTLDR is Missing"support doc. I followed instructions, but now I appear to have no recognizable drives. Usepart is "H". When I type in "set" on DOS. Then I typed as instructed "copy ntldr h:\" and pressed enter. says, system cannot find file. Help! i run my E commerce off this computer and need files on it. What to do?I'd get a copy of the Windows OS on a CD and PERFORM a Repair Installation. Boot off the Windows CD and when it gives you the option to INSTALL or repair, select repair. The Installation will look at the C: drive for all prior windows installations. |
