Solve : Text color?

Answer»

I'm on a new computer --- an emachine and using Windows XP with Internet Explorer 7. This may sound like a crazy question but it's driving me crazy because I can't find the answer. Can ANYONE PLEASE tell me how to switch the color of the TEXT? The text color is purple throughout the entire computer. I have two other computers and have not had this problem. THANKS! When you say throughout the entire computer do you mean 'everywhere' like start menu, control PANEL etcRight-Click on the desktop, and select Properties
Select the Tab that states Appearance

You will now have the control to change colors and more!

DaveTo go back to the default theme of Windows XP, follow DaveLembke's, click on the drop-down box next to "Windows and buttons" and choose "Windows XP style".I appreciate all the help and I did it, but everything is still purple. Anything I type, anything I READ --- all text is purple. I am going mad with this purple stuff. You may have some malware infection on your system.

Please read this post and post the logs at Computer Viruses and Spyware board.I'm doing that right now --- thanks!!

Solve : Ramdom reboot?

Answer» DELL Dimension 5150, Windows XP home SP2.

Here is a puzzler for you. It is driving me crazy. About 3 months ago I got up one morning to find my computer was on, I shut it down but after a few minutes it rebooted its-self. I pulled out the plug. Later it booted up normally but after about an hour Windows shut down while I was working and immediately rebooted only to shut down again and continue in this loop until I pulled the plug again. Sometimes I could work for an hour, sometimes only a few minutes before this would happen. The computer would also crash in the BIOS at this point and as all anti-virus software was up to DATE it was thought to be a hardware problem. The CPU fan was changed to no avail. I took the computer to an IT colleague. He ran the computer with all removable stuff taken out but the problem persisted. He tried a different processor and wow! it worked ok but strangely when he put my processor into another computer it also run ok. He then reassembled my computer with the original processor and everything was fine for a couple of weeks. Then the whole thing started again.

I took Windows Media Player back to an earlier version as this had been updated around the the same as the problem first stared and surprisingly Windows no longer shut down while I was working. However the booting up on its own problem persisted and I had to pull the plug to stop it HAPPENING. I checked and remade all connections within the computer but I didn't find anything loose and surprise, surprise everything has been fine for weeks...until last night when the computer booted its-self up again. I shut it down and it booted up again. Here we go again. The only thing I did yesterday was update virus definitions from Semantec. Help!!maybe you could look in the BIOS and see if "Wake On LAN" or "WOL" is enabled. Also, when you shut down do you shut down completely or just suspend or hibernate?
Not sure how to do that but I will look into it, thanks. Could the CMOS battery have anything to do with it? Computer is only 2 years old. I always shut down completely by the way.Could be. Could be (sorry to be blunt) crappy Dell parts getting flaky.
Well that is certainly the cheapest OPTION. I will try that first. Thanks again.

i cancelled the last two files, then it finished, and nothing ELSE came up.Try Repair install.I tried repair install. Two files from the check were still missing. ngen.exe - entry point not found. The procedure entry point GetRequestedRuntimeVersion could not be located in the dynamic link library mscoree.dll And the other had something to do with .NetFramework 2.0.6.6 something, I didnt get a chance to get the rest. Also since the repair my display is way laggy. Should I reinstall my graphix card?
In my opinion, you may be facing Windows reinstall, after reformat. One other thing you could try is to boot into safemode...un-install any .Net frameworks installed from add/ remove programs.
Then boot to regular mode and run the sfc fix Broni suggested above and re-boot again.I just reformatted and re-installed windows not even two WEEKS ago. I'll try removing .netframework and try again.after repair install a huge list of windows updates arrived. none of them would install. doesnt sound good.Get Ultimate Boot CD: http://www.ultimatebootcd.com/, and test your RAM, and hard drive.tried this and updates work now

Re-register the related Windows Update files:

1. Click Start, Run, and input the following commands in the Run textbox: (you can make this simpler by copy/pasting one line at a time, then click OK after each one, then click Start, Run again and repeat with the next command)

regsvr32 wuapi.dll
regsvr32 wuaueng.dll
regsvr32 atl.dll
regsvr32 wucltui.dll

regsvr32 msxml.dll
regsvr32 msxml3.dll
regsvr32 msxml2.dll
regsvr32 qmgr.dll
regsvr32 qmgrprxy.dll

You will RECEIVE a message stating the process succeeded after you input each command.

After that, visit the Windows Update site again.

Solve : Windows XP won't recognize new hard drive?

Answer»

I bought a new hard drive today, a Western DIGITAL OEM Cavier 80gb SATA hard drive. I currently use 2 IDE hard drives, a 6 gb for XP as primary master, a DVD burner as primary slave, and a 80 gb in secondary master. I use an Asus A8v-vm mobo.
My problem is that my bios recognizes the hard drive when I go under hard drives in the BIOS, but Windows does not recognize the new drive.
Anyone got any help? You need to press F6 at the beginning of the installation and when prompted, provide the SATA driver diskette so setup can see the drive.does the SATA drivers come from Win XP disk?As far as I know, they either come on a disk with your drive or you can download the driver from WD's website. http://www.wdc.comI downloaded the Western Digital Data lifegaurds tool and it doesn't detect the drive. I got the stuff from http://support.wdc.com/download/index.asp?cxml=n&pid=15&swid=53Well, I can't get to their download area right now for some reason. I get the following message from their download SITE:

Quote

Sorry, a system error has occured. An error notification has been sent out to the technical support team, and the problem will be solve as soon as possible. Please retry your request now or at a later time. Thank you.

I'll try to get on it later when I get back to the office and see if I can find that SATA driver for you.

I'm not familiar with their Lifeguard tools, so I can't really diagnose what problem you might be experiencing with it. I can't look at it on this system, as it has a solid state disk and not a hard drive. I have a desktop system with a WD drive in the office. Again, I'll check that when I get back. This is what WD says about loading drivers:
FROM HERE
Quote
During the initial installation of Windows, you will need to press F6 almost immediately when "Setup is inspecting your hardware..." appears on the screen. You will then be asked to provide any mass storage controller drivers you may have. At this point, use the drivers supplied by your controller manufacturer (or motherboard manufacturer). After performing the STEPS above, the drive will be recognized and the install should continue without problems.
Yes you will need to download SATA controller drivers from ASUS not WD.
http://support.asus.com/download/download.aspx?SLanguage=en-us&model=A8V-VM
But strangely enough I can't find a Windows SATA controller driver anywhere on the site.

So if that is the motherboard you've got... (Notice that Asus also have A8V-VM Ultra and A8V-VM SE versions so be sure it's not one of them.)
I found the driver you need directly from VIA instead. It's the "VIA V-RAID Driver".
http://www.viaarena.com/default.aspx?PageID=420&OSID=36&CatID=2920&SubCatID=167

Thanks for the help. Downloaded the VIA drivers and it works like a champ, thanks! You're welcome, good to hear everything is working.

Solve : reboot error?

Everytime I BOOT up my pc I get this reboot error message "Failed to set data for `Execute´". I can´t do anything on my pc until I click the OK box or X it. It´s aggravating having to GO through this same process everytime. Any suggestions on how to remove or fix it?

Running XP Media CenterHi, "RICK". I think you are trying to RUN a program at startup which does not have enough permissions. You are not in Administrator mode and something is trying to write to the REGISTRY. Has it been happening for a while? When did you last run a virus check?

Solve : Windows is not loading/starting.?

Answer»

My computer worked FINE before. We used this same computer to play SRO (SilkRoadOnline) game every day. Yesterday, after my son play SRO game then he shut-off. My wife came and turned on but it kept reboot over and over. After Windows loading screen finished then it restart over. It kept doing like that over and over. I tried to restart windows in Safe Mode but I couldn't. It kept restart it. I thought it would be something wrong in the BIOS. I took a look at it, and nothing changes in the BIOS. Drives boot sequence is still have the same setting as I have before. Anyone know what's wrong with it? Why it kept reboot, instead of loading window screen? All help will be appreciated.

My OS is Windows XP, SP2, 768MB of RAM, 1.0Ghz, and 80GB HDD. I built in summer 2001. Thanks. You're getting a BSOD but instead of showing it to you, XP is automatically restarting. (This is perhaps the dumbest feature ever!).

You can DISABLE the automatic reboot. This will allow you too see what error is causing the reboots. This error message is crucial.
Start the computer in normal mode and let it CRASH and reboot.
Tap F8 reaptedly during the bootup. This should bring you to the "Windows Advanced Options Menu".
From this menu select "Disable automatic restart on system failure" and press enter.
Select XP as the operation system to start and hit enter.
Now windows will try to load again.
This time instead of restarting you should GET a blue screen similar to this one.

The red boxes on the picture shows you what information from the blue screen you need to write down.
Post the info here. These are all I got from the blue screen that you marked with red box :

UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME

***STOP: 0x000000ED

I don't know what all these information is about. It must be something wrong with my HDD, the boot sector?

Read through this:

Look especially at Method 2.
I hope you got an XP install disc because you will need it to access the recovery console.

Solve : Pasting Rich Text Without Losing Format?

Answer»

Hi,

I'm used to using message SOFTWARE (i.e. Notepad or Wordpad) to WRITE notes, messages and even compose emails, which I later just paste into a compose WINDOW. If I use Wordpad or a similar rich text editor, I can copy-and-paste the message into OE, for example, and not lose any formatting (i.e. italics, bold, etc. are still there). But if I paste it into, say, my compose screen at Fastmail webmail, no formatting is seen. OTOH, if I compose an email in OE in rich text/html and then paste it into Fastmail's compose window, the formatting is retained.

No, this isn't a question about Fastmail. I'm wondering what explains the loss of formatting in one instance and not the other. I'd like to be able to compose messages (i.e. emails) in the software I use more frequently anyway (Wordpad, ET. al.) as opposed to an email client. But I would like to be able to copy-and-paste it into any compose window -- of an email client or webmail client (where the compose window is SET to compose in hmtl) -- without losing all the formatting in the process.

(Oh, and I don't want to send the rich text as an attachment, but as the body of the email itself).

Any comments appreciated.

Solve : Downgrading to XP from Vista?

Answer»

I can't give the full report, as it exceeds the limit. But I'll give you the motherboard section. Although, not from everest as it cannot find the name.
Board: ASUSTek Computer INC. LEONITE 5.00
Serial Number: MS1C6CS27706002
Bus Clock: 200 megahertz
BIOS: Phoenix Technologies, LTD 5.08 12/08/2006

Let me know if that's the incorrect info, and I'll try to find what you NEED.Can you post what chip is in that ? ?
Asus's site goes by board;chip and then model #...
I'm guessing it's what's known as a OEM board which means Asus cranked out a ton of them and sold them to whitebox manuf. so tracking down drivers isn't as easy as usual...Ah okay. They just had to go and make things difficult -_-.

This is all the information in the little CHIPSET section. At least, I think so.

Chipset Vendor: Intel Corporation
Chipset Model: 945G Processor to I/O Controller
South Bridge: 82801GH (ICH7DH) LPC Interface Controller
SMBUS: Intel Corporation 82801GH (ICH7 Family) SMBus controller @0500h

I hope that is what you needed, I just copied the part that was sectioned off involving the chipset. Sorry if it's not what you needed. Just tell me what it is and I'll find it.

EDIT: Don't worry about this anymore, we solved our problem through a different manner and we don't need to downgrade anymore. I really appreciate all your help though!

Solve : Computer will not boot even after clean install?

Answer»

My computer got to the point where it would not even boot. I did not have anything vital on it, so I reformatted the device and reinstalled the OS, Windows XP Pro SP2. That did not clear it up. I then cleared the cmos, just in case the problem was there. that didnt do it either.

My computer gets to the XP loading page , the bar scrolls a couple times, then the screen shuts down, and the HD winds down. It will start up, if I start it from the OS CD. Another odd thing it does is replace letters. In BIOS and in any DOS like LETTERING the computer USES, random words are mispelled. for example, exit will be spelled eqit.

My motherboard is a GeForce 6100-m9 with an athelon processor and a nvidia 8600 series graphics card. its a setup Ive had for some time with no problem. I did have a trojan a while back, but Im suprised it would survive a reformat.

Thank you for any help. Ive tried everything I can think ofReplace the CMOS BATTERY...part # CR 2032 available almost anywhere.
Make sure the MACHINE is unplugged to do this.
Then DLoad and run MemTest to test the RAM...let it run a few hours...
Any errors at all and you have a bad stik of RAM.
Also travel to your hard drive manuf. site and DLoad and run their diagnostics. Use the file to create a bootable CD.

These 3 steps will eliminate 3 different culprits and we'll go from there...

Solve : Bought a USB DVD RW. Can you set up a sendto??

Answer»

I have bought this DVD RW, USB external. I'm testing it out. I'm on an XP Home SP2 box with a 2.2Ghz Celeron and .5GIG RAM with an 80 GIG HDD. My Windows XP is fully patched, all the updates. It shows my CDRW/DVD-ROM when I right CLICK to "send to" but doesn't show the DVD RW. Will Windows XP write directly to this drive? If so, how can I SET it up so the drive appears in the "send to" selection? Thanks. Right click the start button, choose "explore", navigate to the "send to" folder, drag a shortcut to your DVD-RW drive into that folder.
Thanks. I know well enough about how to make a "sendto" entry like that. However what I wanted to know is.... Since WINXP can directly write to the internal CDRW, can I sent WinXP to directly write to my DVDRW? When I did what you suggested and tried to write a file to the drive I got an error message that the disk was read only. Have you tried with a blank CD disk? There is, I believe, no support at all in the inbuilt burning feature for burning DVD media.

Windows XP's built in direct burning feature is called IMAPI and it supports IDE, ATAPI, SCSI, 1394, USB, and USB 2.0, so I don't see why you should not be able to use it, unless there is some specific compatibility problem with the particular brand and model of external drive you are using.

Oh I see! You mean I'd be able to directly write to a CDRW but not to a DVD-RW.... Got it. Thank you. QUOTE from: stevezygote on October 14, 2007, 11:03:12 AM

I'd be able to directly write to a CDRW but not to a DVD-RW

That is correct.

Solve : cpu usage 100%?

Answer»

Hello,

Im not the SMARTEST when it comes to computers so im looking for some help.

While using my Acer laptop everything is going fine and my cpu usage is sitting around 10%, then when i go on sites like youtube and watch a VIDEO or 2 the video seems to be lagging, the same thing happens when i play a game to long. i go to processes on my task manager and it shows system is using about 50%, IE about 30% and task manager 20%. i use avg, spybot and use the windows firewall for protection. i defrag my computer once every 3 weeks.

if you can help it would be good thanks.after about 3-5 minutes it returns to norm 10% cpu usage.

i use windows xp and have 1.2gb of ram along with a 110 gb hard driveWhat model of laptop is this, and what CPU do you have?
Also, how much free space on your HDD do you have?
You say system is using about 50%, task manager 20%. What else is using the CPU?
Finally, how many processes do you have running after you boot, and while this problem is evident?

It sounds to me like you either have some sort of malware and/or your computer needs a major clean-up.acer aspire 3620

internet explorer takes up around 25% and 5% are like all the others it seems to spread it round if more is open but stays at 100% for the 3-5 minutes. i have about 90gb left of the 110gb drive, have done disk cleanup/defrag/ checked for bad sectors and everything, i have spyware and malware protection and a firewall.

i have about 15 processes on startup excluding system ones. which uses about 10% cpu usage.

thanks for the help.OK, can you take a screenshot of the processes tab on task manager just after booting, and while you are experiencing this problem, and then post it here?I'm having a similar problem, but a little different. Recently I've been having trouble with my laptop. Whenever I connect to the wireless connection the CPU usage will get stuck at 100 (with occasional QUICK drops). It doesn't matter if I have 5 programs open or none. The RAM usage stays around 640.

Also some sites won't display, like gmail won't load. I always get the "this seems to be taking longer than usual" page (it works in basic html view though).

I've already tried Ad-aware, Spysweeper, Norton, Registry mechanic, and defragged but no change. The CPU usage isn't TIED up with any one program, it just cycles between the ones that are open randomly (also they don't even add up to 100 alot of times).

I have windows xp service pack 2 with the latest updates.
1.3 Ghz processor with 736Mb RAM, 1100Mb virtual memory, 40Gb drive.

I attached images with some of the processes.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Solve : Alarm during power up?

Answer»

OK here goes - Windows xp, 256k ram company networked pc; had video issues. After inspection the video is integrated, trying to install NEW video card but only get a BEEP on start up. It doesn't even sound as if the hard drive is SPINNING and there is nothing coming up on the monitor, its not booting at all. I have physically checked all cables and nothing has been removed or installed other than the new video card.

Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks. What graphics card are you installing?
What is the make and MODEL of the motherboard in the machine?Does your powersupply have enough power? Some video cards need alot of power to operate correctly. Try a bigger powersupply and see if that helps.Graphics card is a ATI Rage 8mb PCI
Motherboard is a ASUS 4ps800-MX

This should be a std video card. There is no power connections for it and once I disable the integration there should be no conflict, but I'm not getting that far. I can HEAR the disk try to read just before the alarm, but nothing happens after that. Not sure if it is actually the hard drive or the motherboard at this point. How about the graphics card? Is it known to be working? Can you test it in another machine?Graphics card is new out of the box and is currently not installed (I just removed it). I am trying to troubleshoot using the original equipment and set up to see if I can get any response. No luck so far.Alarm was due to faulty memory reading at start up. Replaced the card, reinstalled the video card. All working correctly - thanks to anyone who helped!Good to hear you got it working again and thanks for keeping us updated.

I keep GETTING epxonwo added to my tool BAR, ALSO some Spyware Alert thing that will never go away. I've decided to wipe out everything and reformat my computer but it won't even let me reboot from my operating system CD

Does anyone know how I can to this before I go CRAZYIER?!?!?!?Also some kind of Worm Win 32 Netsky. I've run a scan now 20 some times and it says yhere is nothing but this crap still keeps popping up.Do you want to try and clean the machine or format and reinstall windows?
If you want to clean it this post belongs in Computer Viruses and Spyware
Over there we have posts on what steps you should take to help our malware experts help you.

If you want to format and start over please provide us with a little more information. Like the system specifications or brand name and model of the computer. We will also need to know what version of windows you're trying to reinstall.
I can tell you though that a virus can't prevent you from booting an Windows install disc. Something ELSE is causing that problem.

Solve : Recover from unmountable boot error (XP) - I think i made it worse?

Answer»
The root question is : What happened to my data? Is it STILL there. Did coying NTLDR wipe it out? and can i get the data back? Please read on.

Here's the problem.

Trying to fix my sister's computer (containing lots of useful data). It blue screens during boot-up with an "unmountable boot error" or something like that.

Here's what I've done.

1. Attempted to back-up useful files using ANOTHER computer.
Hooked up the drive as slave, tried to open drive but told i needed to format (I did NOT format).
Downloaded PC Inspector. Managed to be able to view all the existing folders.
Saved a bunch of the data to my comp. Thought I had it all (turns out i didn't).

2. Attempted to recover Windows XP using install disk.
Hit "R" to recover.
Typed "fixboot", Typed "fixmbr"
Still no luck, so then tried chkdsk /r and chkdsk /p. Says something about "volumes unrecoverable"
It asked me to repair something (i can't quite recall) so I say ok and it does something, boots back up

then, it says my comp is missing NTLDR.

3. After a quick google on the NTLDR problem I do the following:
I go the recover page i type "e:", then "cd i386", then "copy ntldr c:" (it copies that file to the c:
Still no luck so I gave up.

(Forgot to mention, i tried running a disk that i downloaded off of http://tinyempire.com/notes/ntldrismissing.htm for a NTDLR quick fix. It did absolutely nothing)

4. My sister calls and asks if i backed up a certain folder with her business stuff. Turns out I missed it while backing up the other stuff so i put the drive back in my machine but this TIME, not even "PC Inspector" can see any files on c: except for the ntldr file that i copied there (There's no way that one file copies over the whole drive is there??).

Anyway, now i'm up the creek. I can't just reformat the drive cuz then we LOSE the data, and i can't access the data through my machine any more since copying that ntldr to the drive, nor can i access it with any recovery programs (also tried "recovery fix for windows" program).

ANY HELP?
Is the drive toast? Is the data still there? Can I recover anything? Are there any better tools out there?

If anyone can help, that would be great!Unmountable Boot Volume?

Go Here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/555302Thanks but I already tried that.

I did all the Windows recovery stuff that is already in this webpage and ended up with "missing NTLDR"

So I decided to get a new copy of NTLDR. So from the recovery page I typed "e:", then "cd i386", then "copy ntldr c:". I still get "missing NTLDR".

I then downloaded off of http://tinyempire.com/notes/ntldrismissing.htm for a NTDLR quick fix from a CD. It did absolutely nothing.

I then tried to re-access the data (via windows and PC Inspector) but now, INSTEAD of seeing the data like I was able to before doing the above steps, all I can see is the NTLDR file on the drive, even though the drive is using up 8G of space.

What happened to my data? Is it still there. Did coying NTLDR wipe it out?

I'd appreciate whatever input i can get.
The chkdsk /r message is not good news and the drive is most likely dying.
You might want to DLoad and run the diagnostics from the drive manuf. site and see if it will do any further repairs but don't get your hopes up.
Try running PCInspector afterwards to see if any additional data can be recovered.

None of the steps you took would erase/harm data...that drive was most likely already toast.
While it's fresh in your mind now would be a good time to develop a regular backup strategy...

It was installed ages ago to protect folders for a drive test but now wish to uninstall it. The trouble is i've forgotten the password. It will not let me uninstall unless a correct password is provided. I tried this in the "Add/Remove PROGRAMS" but to no avail.

Solve : Computer Question - Very hard one?

Answer»

Well he problem is when i opened my laptop and started it it was weird everything was frozen and the only thing that i could open was taskmanager and there were no icons on the desktop either. Well i sort of know the problem, when i was downloading some stuff my computer was getting slow so i DECIDED to end some processes in task manager. I ended some processes i did not even know of but it wasn't a lot. I don't remember the process i ended but i think it was an important one, because the USERNAME was SYSTEM. I even stopped some of the start up processes that start through msconfig i hope none were important. Could SOMEONE tell me all the processes that have to be on the start up tab in msconfig, and all the processes that should always be running on the task manager? Please tell me the code thingy or in other words the code you have to enter in File, Run in task manager to run something.1st of all we need to check up your laptop, it seems you have infections.Do you have ANTI virus and anti spy ware?are they updated?is the computer jammed in safe mode?if not try to SCAN in safe mode and see what happen. If this computer OS is windows xp, have you make any save point for system restore?did you try to restore?

Solve : Updates Crash.?

Answer»

Hi , me again.
A year ago I had the folowing problem :
The PC stayed turned on for about 13 HOURS and had downloaded 72 updates
So I turned it off my PC with installing the additional updates.
While that proces was on I saw the PC had crashed on update 32 and for 5 minutes stayed on a freezed screen with a non blinking yellow ligh (LOADING indicator), restarted it ,
and then since the .dll file changeing wasn't fully completed guess what:
It started up perfectly to the desktop , but I couldn't click on any Icons , or start them up.

So anyway, The PC whent for repair , and we GOT it in 3 days with a brand new XP.

Right now , my AutomaticUpdates are off , but some programs require a fully updated Windows.
If I sometimes need to turn the updates on , tell me a way to prevent this CRASH in the future.

Your best bet is to install updates one-by-one.WOW !
ThanX !
How didn't i think of that...

Solve : My computer won't start?

Answer»

So my PC is windows XP SP2, custom brand, ANYWAYS, when I start my PC, and choose my user profile, I get inside and it tells me welcome and all that crap then it doesn't load anything, it just shows me the task bar and the icons on my desktop with nothing in the quick launch and I can't click anything, and in sys. restore it says no restore points <_

antivirus & antispyware protection / service packs installed / when did it start happening / did it ever work right / installed any new SOFTWARE?

Alan <>< Wait a while.
Once I had a virus like that and the effect of the virus was to slow down the startup.
I had to wait 2-3 minutes before my icons & destop appeared.
You MIGHT have caught the same thing........

EDIT:
And now anyway , since my PC is pretty OLD , first my taskbar shows up and after about 5 or 6 seconds all the items , icons , shortcuts and other stuff on my desktop. That's all I know.

Edit 2:
After PC starts up properly (If that happens...) use some kind of software and try to remove the virus/problem/error/crash .
It could be something very simple..............

I would TAKE Street1's advice and get a can of compressed air and give your computer a cleaning. Does it do this if you try to play a video that you download and play in something like winamp or windows media player?

Solve : JIT Debugging?

Answer»

I have no idea what has happened to my computer. When I tried to log into HP Photosmart PREMIER, it froze up and started giving me all weird messages. This is one of them. (When JIT debugging is enabled, any unhandled exception will be sent to the JIT DEBUGGER registered on the machine. )I have never had this happen before and do not know what to do. Please Help!! You need to give more information ie: Computer brand, What system are you running.Windows xp or what? ram etc. When did the problem start? Which edition of HP Photosmart Premier are you running? Give all the info you can and someone like Broni, Patio , etc. will DROP by and may be able to help you. Do you have a fire wall installed and active? Have you run anti-virus? Spyware or Malware? Sounds like a bug to me.Hi,
I have a Microsoft Windows XP Media CENTER Edition Version 2002 Service Pack 2, Compaq Presario
AMD Athlon(tm) Processor. 3700t Processor, 2.19 GHz, 960 MB of RAM.
The problem started after Myself and a friend tried to install a wireless router for another computer, for my daughter. It wouldn't work I couldn't get the internet then on my computer or the other one. Anyway, my friend installed a Reg Cleaner. The next day I had some pictures to upload from my camera. I went to transfer them into HP Photosmart Premier. I can't find what version it is. Then I got this info about the JIT Debugging, which froze up Photosmart Premier. Also I went on line then to download Photosmart Essentials, thinking that would clear up the problem, well it didn't.

Solve : norton wont install right?

i need help, this is my last hope... I un-installed NORTON anti-virus cause it said there was a problem with it and to re-install it, so i tryed, i installed it, it restarted the computer, but then everytime i turned on the computer it said there was a problem and hade to RESTART, it just KEEPS restarting and i cant open norton and havn't done anything to it but install it... no clue what to do... i hade to un-install it again to make it stop restarting my computer... That's why I hate Norton!!!
Most LIKELY....no....for sure, not most likely, when you un-installed your previous Norton, it left some entries in registry, and problems for you.
Before you do anything else...
What Windows version?
Did you BUY Norton, so you don't want to waste your money, and you prefer to install it again?-Right click on my computer
-Select properties from the DROP down list.
-Open the "Advanced" tab.
-Click the "Startup and Recovery" button.
-Uncheck "Automatically reboot" in the system failure section.
-Re-install Norton.

This will prevent your computer from restarting when there is a system failure.Go here:

http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/sharedtech.nsf/docid/2005092709200113?Open&src=symsug_us

Download the appropriate tool. That should remove ALL of Norton.

The easiest and most efficient way of making an image of a HDD is with Norton Ghost.
Or Acronis
Or Drive Image
Or a number of other products...That's true Patio. However I PREFER Norton Ghost, so that was my recommendation.

chiragsk,

Your best bet is to use Google to search for the product you want to use and then read the documentation on it. Most products will have a STEP by step guide.

Here's a link to Acronis's website. It's a cost EFFECTIVE product and looks like it will do the job more than WELL enough.

And a link to Norton Ghost as well. If you NEED any further help just let us know. But before you rush into this, take some time and read first. I understand...
I was just letting him know there are alternatives...
As a long tine loyal Ghost supporter unfortunately i jumped ship after Symantec got their hands on it.

Solve : Trying to format my computer, but the keyboard is not recognized :(?

Answer»

I guess I'd list my computer knowledge as above average, just not formally trained in anything. That being said, i've reformatted my hard disks many, many times, and it seems windows (xp home) never installs easily, thanks Bill This time, however, I haven't gotten that far. My keyboard(s) wouldn't let me boot from the xp cd by pressing a button, they just weren't recognized. I WENT into BIOS and enabled usb keyboard/mouse and I was able to get the cd to boot up. Once I get to the blue screen, my keyboard is no longer recognized . Any advice from you guys and gals?Does you computer have PS/2 ports? Have you tried USING a PS/2 keyboard?

Is the USB keyboard you're using any special kind of keyboard or just a generic USB keyboard?

You also mentioned reinstalling before, was it with the same USB keyboard?Keyboard #1 is a microsoft fancy-dancy keyboard, didn't expect that one to work, keyboard #2 is a simple gateway ps/2 with no frills (figure the simpler the keyboard the better). Keyboard #3 is a kensington usb, again, no frills, very plain. I've re-installed windows so many times before, I can't remember which keyboards i've used, i've had many over the years, but I do definately remember that the microsoft (my g/f bought it for herself) did not work last time I wanted to do anything in msdos/bootdisk. Hope this is helpful to you, and thanks for helping Some USB keyboards won't work during Windows installation. My Ideazon Zboard does, but my old Microsoft keyboard wouldn't, and they're both USB.

I'm a bit confused THOUGH. Have you tried with the PS/2 keyboard this time? If so, the same thing happened?Yes, I did try with the ps/2 keyboard, for some reason, it seems inop though. When I plug it in (even in windows) there is a green light (power, i'm guessing) but I cannot make the light for the NUMBER lock/caps turn on. Maybe i'll try to hunt down another ps/2 keyboard, but i'm thinking they're kinda oldschool and not around anymore. The kensington I bought came with an adapter to make the usb work in a ps/2. all sorted out, thanks Good to hear.

What'd you do? Kensington in PS/2?

More details needed an please post what the BOSD says, also what kind of cable is it??? Not experinced with xbox.

The BSoD says that the problem is caused by: UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME

The tech information is:

***STOP: 0x000000ED (0x82B33900, 0xc0000006, 0x00000000, 0x00000000)

The power cable is 10A 125V.

Hopefully that helps.I ment what the cable looked LIKE. Are these IDE drives in this machine??? It says that you should try a 80 PIN cable in replace of the 40 pin IDE cable.

timeout=0
default=signature(4b464b45)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS
[operating systems]
signature(4b464b45)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="MICROSOFT Windows XP Professional" /noexecute=optin /fastdetect

But in my friends and office system shows the boot.ini LIKE

[boot loader]
timeout=30
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect

I don't understand what is signature(4b464b45)? What that use? Why my boot.ini DIFFER from others. But no problem in booting.

The person who knows about it please reply me.Here Ya Go...Thank You very much

im not sure what compose button she is talking about but i know she uses a LAPTOP. compaq not sure the model. she was here in august and was having lag and loading issues. i unistalled half of her hardrive full of spyware and useless junk that would normaly lag any pc. i bought spy sweeper full and installed it and showed her how to sweep for adware spyware and viruses and how to update it. and as far as i remember i had her pc in working order. i have never heard of a computer doing this unless the shift key is jammed but im not sure that would affect how many windows remain open.... anyways im going to give her the link to this thread. any help on knowlege of what would CAUSE this or how to fix it would be greatly appreciated. keep in mind the computer in question is full of her school FILES etc. i backed up her pc on to a blank dvd r but im sure her latest stuff hasnt been backed up.

thanks,
Dustin

You don't mention any antivirus software, only Spysweeper. Have her boot into Safe Mode and run scans. If she doesn't have any antivirus software download here:

http://free.grisoft.com/doc/download-free-anti-virus/us/frt/0

Then run full scans in safe mode.

Also might try a USB keyboard but do the other first.

Alan <>< And make here CHECK her shift keys... one of them might just be stuck.
