Solve : Blink Text (HTML)? |
|
Answer» Hi Everyone. I sell on Ebay. I know its annoying and everyone hates it but it is important that I BLINK a few words INSIDE my auction. (Please Take The Optional Insurance) Many people SAY they did not see it although it is in HUGE/BOLD print. Personally. I think they are full of beans. If I BLINK it, they will have no excuse. I do not think works with Internet Explorer and almost everyone uses it. Does anyone have another EASY way to do it? Thanks so much!!! I don't think you can remove the ad, since it's a GIF image that's created.Right. The blinking text and the small ad in the lower right corner are all part of one image. Here's something that will work in both IE and Firefox: http://www.draac.com/blinkingtext.txtSorry, I opened the link and have no clue what to do there.Sorry, but now that I think about this some more, I'm not sure that could be inserted into your ebay listing. Actually, any of the options mentioned in this discussion require inserting some code into your ebay listing. I haven't LISTED anything on ebay for a very long time and don't know how much flexibility they give you to insert some type of code, such as what's been suggested here, into your listing. I do know ebay has their own discussion boards to help users. That might be your best source for getting help with this. See http://pages.ebay.com/community/boards/index.html |

Solve : Installing files for east asian languages? |
|
Answer» Hello, Yes, and I can go into the I386/LANG folder on the CD. The thing is, besides doing it the 'automated' way, is there a specific sub-folder in the Windows folder that I can transfer those files into?Well, I didn't mean to suggest that approach. I was just seeking some verification that your Windows CD has not been damaged with scratches or whatever. This is puzzling; I think we need to determine why your computer won't proceed to install the language when you select the box for "Install files for East Asian languages". I've installed Korean before and had no problem. So, I don't know why your system isn't responding the way it should. If I can think of any troubleshooting steps or find any reference, I'll post back. Anyone else have some thoughts on this?Ok, I believe I found the problem. The folder "C:\Windows\mui" which usually contains the multilingual files/folders is entirely empty. I believe that a long time ago I deleted the files because under normal circumstances, if you are only going to use English, they are unneccesary and at the time, I was short on space. I'm almost 99% sure that this is the source of the problem. My new problem is where I can find the files -__- Any ideas? I can't seem to find a downloadable torrent or something similar :/Well, I just re-installed Korean and my mui folder is empty. However, my IME folder is about 75MB. How about yours? Here's something I think you should see: Microsoft Global Input Method Editors (IMEs)This could very well be the reason. My ime folder is only 600~ kb :/ I am downloading the Korean one atm, thanks! I'll reply if it works |

Solve : Unwanted "Start> All Programs" Enties? |
|
Answer» Hello, I have an Inspiron B130 Laptop running XP Home. Last WEEK I went to open >Start> All Programs and found several dozens entries; all read similar to "ScanHKCR1192130831-56" next one "ScanHKCR1192130832-58 and so on. When I click on one of them, I get a message asking "Are you sure you want this information added to the registry?" At present I have just under 100 sitting in my All Programs area. This is a tough one; does anyone know a way to stop this?" Thank you. What do you use for virus protection and spyware protection?Well each of those is a registry entry (.reg file) Right click on one of them and click "Edit" and paste it here. This should help us understand weather these are "kind" or "unkind"I have not downloaded anything recently and down anything unusual.REGEDIT4 Solve : Can't set page file settings!? |

Answer» Gotcha...Quote from: patio on October 15, 2007, 06:26:58 AM
They don't RUN at startup, but I frequently use those programs. Quote And jph is correct. The changes take place whenyou re-boot. I know, it should take effect after a reboot, but it doesn't CHANGE at all, even when I click OK, it changes back to the 'Custom SIZE' setting.I'm confused. I went to Crucial.com and they said DDR memory. I searched that, and when the page I clicked on loaded, it had ddr, ddr memory, ddr ram, ddr sdram, ddr pc2100, pc2100 ddr sdram, ddr sdram memory, pc3200, ddr sdram price, 200 pin, ddr pc2700 ... My computer has DDR PC2700 according to crucial. I'll see if I can find the right memory stick. YES, I know, Crucial has them, but the shipping costs. I'm a bit SLACK on $$$ I'll get the memory sticks somewhere else.I don't know, where you live, but if you have Fry's somewhere around, that's the best place to go.I haven't put a memory stick in, but amazingly, it works. No more crazy messages and no more crashing. So, what happened, what did you do?Well, I noticed that AVG Free Edition was doing a virus scan in the background, so I disabled it. That was taking a lot of resources. Then I rebooted the computer and all was fine.Cool In the main Panel of AVG right clik on Scheduler and select Properties... Here you can edit the time it runs. Mine updates at 3AM and runs at4. |

Solve : CD R &R/W DRIVES SUDDENLY NOT WORK? |

Answer» I'm NEW here and not a computer WIZ so please help if you can. when I go to hardware directoryDevice Manager? Any errors there? When I try to troubleshoot the READ drive, Code 31 comes up. "This device is not working properly because Windows cannot load the drivers required for this device. (Code 31)". Same for the R/W drive. Does that tell you anything? I'm in the dark. IBoth used to work fine. Thanks for helping. DFTry these: 1. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314060 2. http://aumha.org/downloads/cdgone.zip 3. Go to Device Manager, click a "+" sign next to IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers. You'll see TWO items: - ATA Channel0 (or Primary Channel) - ATA Channel1 (or Secondary Channel) Right click on each of them, and click Uninstal. Confirm. Restart Windows. They'll be automatically reinstalled. Thanks, Broni, for the help. I followed your instructions, new hdw was found and all, and I restarted, but they still don't work. Note says no CD drives on this computer. I updated drivers but it said both were current - updated them anyway - restarted - still don't work. When I open My Computer icon the drives do no show ( as D & E, as they did before this problem). Any other ideas? Really appreciate your help. DFDid you try all three possible solutions, already? No, just #3, as time is running out on me. We go out of town in the morning for a couple of weeks and I will have to come back to this when I return. Meanwhile, at the other location on another computer I will study ! and 2 and make notes. I sorta thought #3 was a summary of the others. NOT? Thanks and I'll be back Jan 27. DFNo, it wasn't. Have a nice trip. |

Quote from: Dave666 today: C:\docume~1\family\local~1\temp\wer822d.dir00\mini011208-01.dmp This is not an error message but shows the location on your hard drive of a minidump file containing system information when an unrecoverable error condition is detected. You can read about minidump debugging here. From the information given it looks like a Stop 7F error (processor fault) could be the problem. See here.. Good luckThank you for you'r respose...I looked at the sites you suggested and to be honest alot of this info is way beyond my current understanding... What i did do was perform a system restore, and since doing so i have not received the error,as well something i believe may have occured was that at the occasions of this error my wife was cleaning and may have hit the power cord?? If the power was SUDDENLY cut off, causing the computer to shut off instantly, could this cause the above error? My PC is running cpu Temp at around 38 celsius,so it seems actually to COOL??...Its my old AMD k6 II pc i use to store my music on...This old Pc was purchased new, upgraded and serviced a few times and has never failed. I would like to find out the cause of this error, any simpler methods of doing so? Thanks to all for you'r assistance. D Dave...just be happy, it got fixed... BTW, 38C looks normal for older machine. Can you HELP?For XP Pro, and other 32-bit OS's, you can only use 2GB for applications. 2^32 = 4,294,967,296 Half those bytes are for the OS kernel, and the other half are for your applications (2GB/2GB). You can shift it into a 3GB/1GB by EDITING your boot.ini file so your apps will have more RAM to use, but your windows can become buggy and it's really not recommended. |

Solve : Registry repair and cleaning products? |
|
Answer» Hello forum. I need some advice regarding registry cleaners and tweakers. Which one is considered the best at doing what it promises?. I do not go into the registry and would like to buy a product that delivers what it promises. I did the free download thing with a couple of them. Scans produced over 700 errors?!!. I don't see how the computer can function with that many errors. Then they ask me which ones I want to fix. If it is that critical an issue , why doesn't the registry fixer just go ahead and fix it. Why ask me? I looked at Reg Cure, Registry Mechanic and ANOTHER, Reg "something". I did not purchase yet because I want one which will do a good job and not ask ME what to do. So...... Any advice as to which one to buy would be appreciated. BTW I have a Dell Dimension, WIN XP SP2 , IE6.0 ,512 MB RAM , 2.4 GB Celeron processor, and...an old fashioned 56K dialup ISP(NetZero) ThanksCcleaner is a great (and free) tool which will fix any errors in your registry. Give it a try. |

Solve : HELP-Using older PC Tower while newer one in repair...? |

Answer» My Gateway PC Tower went on the blink, I am using an older PC Tower (Windows 98 System) while the other is being serviced. The older one will boot up, slowly, upon accessing the internet or other areas, it will freeze up then shut down AUTOMATICALLY, what should I do? Let me add, until my previous PC Tower is serviced and that matter is resolved, it is of some URGENCY that this temporary PC tower be resolved if there is a simple "fix" to the problem. Thanks in advance for any solutions or suggestions. |

Solve : Hibernate doesn't work? |
|
Answer» Half the time when I try to hibernate my computer, I get the data execution prevention window, which SAYS "To help PROTECT your computer, Windows has closed this program. Name: Windows Explorer Publisher: Microsoft Corporation" Then I get the "explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close. Sorry for the inconvenience." and the send or don't send error report thing. It started sometime last week, and I'm pretty sure I didnt install anything.Straight From the Mothership...Quote 1.When you receive the error message that is mentioned in the "Symptoms" section, CLICK Change Settings. For this method, there is no Change Settings button. For the other method, I can't add an exeption because the data execution prevention is set to "Turn on DEP for essential Windows programs and services only" and I can't add exceptions in this mode. I'd rather not turn this on for all programs because I get the feeling its gonna open this error for a lot of stuff I try to run. It also says to update the program that is causing the error, but since in my case it's explorer, wouldn't it be updated through windows update?Hibernate, sleep, or whatever else...those things never worked well on Windows. Turn it off, if you don't use it.Hibernate, sleep, or whatever else...those things never worked well on Windows. Turn it off, if you don't use it. Solve : file sort? |
|
Answer» Recently several programs that use the generic file open and save window CHANGED. For years they displayed file names sorted alpha by NAME. Now they show them by date modified. I can click on the details button to have the option to SORT them by name but that's kind of inconvenient as every new SUBDIRECTORY requires that I do that. I tried changing it in the Windows Explorer by selecting folder options and getting the sort I wanted then telling it to change all folders to look like that one and to remember the look. Works for Explorer by not for the generic file open/save window. There must be a default somewhere. Anybody have any idea? I'm Win 98 SE. it happens in various programs (e.g. adobe photoshop, DREAMWEAVER) several programs that use the generic file open and save windowWhat is generic file open and save window?I think he means the little window that opens when you open or save a file from most programs.that's the one. some programs (e.g ms word) use their own file open/save window while others use a common window. |

Solve : Removing Icons? |

Answer» I was hoping that someone can tell me how to remove Icons from the Control Panel list . I have WinXP Home SP2, setup menu style that RESEMBLES Win98. I go from Start -to- Settings-to-Control Panel and there is the list of icons that I NEED to remove some of the icons off that, "if they are considered to be icons". Look thru MSN Knowledge Base already and some other sources and have found no info on this matter. Im sure it probably has to be done thru the SYSTEM Registry but, with out knowing just exactly how I wouldnt try educated guessing on this. Im hoping someone out there has done this or knows how. I hope you can help out..I have several icons that are no good and need to be TAKEN out of the list and right click does not give me any remove or delete options. thanks I have an icon that I have to remove, simply because I don't want it there Hey, you ask for help and don't give information and I'll ask for an explanation. Solve : My Works folder in C:/ ?? |
|
Answer» I have discovered a folder called, "My Works" on my c:/ drive. The folder contains several huge files (1 gig files) with names like: I have discovered a folder called, "My Works" on my c:/ drive. Have you or somebody with access to this PC installed Cyberlink DVD Solution or Suite? This application creates a "My Works" folder, and possibly puts big files in it. I'm not familiar with WinAce compression format, but I suppose, it works similar to RAR files. C00, C01, and so on are only partial files, so you can't open them. This is how RAR format works. You'll see files like: *.r01, *.r02.....and finally *.rar file. When you double click on *.rar file, it combines all *.r01, *.r02....files, and produces one uncompressed file. You may be looking for some *.ACE file, and double click on it.Guys, that's it. I do have DVD Cyberlink installed on this computer. The files must be some sort of video files. WOW, this forum is great. Thanks!10 points for Dias Very nice Dias.It is flattering to get all this praise, but my conscience will not permit me to bask in it any more. The cleverness is not mine! You still deserve the praise for being smart enough to google it. Oddly enough, I tried the same search but never got a Cyberlink result or anything that looked relevant. Hmmm...I just tried, and...same as Quaxo.Exactly the same results both in Firefox and IE6 via google.co.uk. Search term was "my works" folder & the first result was Cyberlink Because I'm in Thailand, I get redirected to www.google.co.th, I wouldn't have thought the results would be any different though. Google Thailand's results come from the main Google.com site. Oh well, solved their problem ANYWAY. Good job! hahaha |

Solve : Anti Spyware download problems.? |
|
Answer» Hello, Mad-Friend here, I also have ATF Cleaner (2006) <--This is a powerful cleaner and not recommended as a daily drive cleaner. This could be part of the slowdown problems. Use CCleaner Slim instead. If AVG is playing up then I would suggest using Avast! Home Free For anti spyware cryhelp was spot on in suggesting SuperAntiSpyware I would also suggest using SpywareBlaster 4.0. It uses no resources, you just need to update it every other week or so. You could also post a Hijackthis log so we can see what all is running and help you get it trimmed down to size. Hello cryhelp & evilfantasy, AVG is working well, it updates daily but I must admit I don't run it regularly: it takes about 50 minutes to do a scan. Ad-Aware 2007 was the problem. The new version didn't work properly as I feel it didn't fully download. Up until this week I persivered with it and used Ewido Antispyware. I only installed Spyware Terminator & Windows Defender this week, then had to uninstall them when my PC went terminally slow. I will try to post results from Hijackthis so you can see what is going on. Thankyou both for your advice, it is much appreciated. I will download Superantispyware once you give the all-clear on the Hijackthis results. I downloaded SpywareBlaster 4.0, it too worked well, though I assume it just works on its own: scans automatically, and I need to update manually. Hijack successfully removed the 2 entries you listed. All I need to say now is a big THANKYOU your brilliant advice was spot-on. Cheers guys. Best wishes Mad-Friend. That's great news, glad everything is working well for you and thanks for posting back with the results. Good Luck to you. Quote I downloaded SpywareBlaster 4.0, it too worked well, though I assume it just works on its own: scans automatically, and I need to update manually. Yes it sets restrictions on the browser to block unwanted activities so it doesn't actually run. You will need to manually check for updates every other week or so. |

I went into registry and allowed access to me to change settings. Now the controller WORKS. Well I am having a problem with computer. When I try to open the MY COMPUTER FILE, it shows a magnifine glass and it is searching. it takes between 2-3 minutes to find it and open file, sometime it may take longer. And sometime when I try to open some pictures in my picrtures and view as slide show it takes forever to upload the slideshow. Everything runs fine.
