Solve : Blink Text (HTML)?

Answer»

Hi Everyone. I sell on Ebay. I know its annoying and everyone hates it but it is important that I BLINK a few words INSIDE my auction. (Please Take The Optional Insurance) Many people SAY they did not see it although it is in HUGE/BOLD print. Personally. I think they are full of beans. If I BLINK it, they will have no excuse. I do not think works with Internet Explorer and almost everyone uses it. Does anyone have another EASY way to do it? Thanks so much!!!

PS: I am not very technical.Take a look at this: http://www.blinkingtextlive.com/Wow!!! Great!!

One more thing... Can I get the advertisement BLINKINGTEXT.COM out of my BLINKING text? I can't figure out what to take out from the HTML to remove it and still have everything perfect. Any advice???

PS: Soybean..you are great!!!Code: [Select]<html>
<head>
<title>Example of Formatting Text</title>
</head>
<BODY>
<p>This <blink>word</blink> is Blinking</p>
</body>
</html>
The tags do not work with most PC's.

Soybeans site was great. Just want to know how to remove the advertisement of BLINKINGTEXT.COM from the auctual blinking text. Thanks all!!!! I don't think you can remove the ad, since it's a GIF image that's created.Oh!!! Is there anything out there as easy that creates the blinking text for you with NO advertisements? The ad messes up the placement of my auctions normal text.

Anyone???

Right. The blinking text and the small ad in the lower right corner are all part of one image. Here's something that will work in both IE and Firefox: http://www.draac.com/blinkingtext.txtSorry, I opened the link and have no clue what to do there.Sorry, but now that I think about this some more, I'm not sure that could be inserted into your ebay listing. Actually, any of the options mentioned in this discussion require inserting some code into your ebay listing. I haven't LISTED anything on ebay for a very long time and don't know how much flexibility they give you to insert some type of code, such as what's been suggested here, into your listing.

I do know ebay has their own discussion boards to help users. That might be your best source for getting help with this. See http://pages.ebay.com/community/boards/index.html

Solve : Installing files for east asian languages?

Answer»

Hello,

I am trying to install the Korean language on my computer. I know exactly how to do it, as I've looked at various tutorials on the internet such as:

http://newton.uor.edu/Departments&Programs/AsianStudiesDept/Language/asianlanguageinstallation_XP.html

So, for those who don't want to look at the above links, what I should do is go to Control Panel -> Regional settings/language -> Languages Tab -> AND AT THIS POINT, check the "Install files for East Asian languages" box. It should prompt me to locate the files wherever they may be.

However, this does not happen. Instead, after I press OK on the pop-up box asking me whether I want it to install the files or not, the box BECOMES unchecked and everything returns to how it was a few seconds earlier. Repeated attempts were futile.

I looked on the internet and I found similar problems, but no solutions.

This is of course hardly a HARDWARE problem so all I think I need to say is that I'm running Windows XP Pro, Sp2.

Please help.

Thanks,

Wizard

Someone please help, sorry for the bump, but I need to make this work relatively quickly.Do you have your Windows CD? Did you have it in your CD-ROM drive when you tried this?Yes, I tried it with the CD, but still NOTHING. Nevertheless, it should pop up a box (I would imagine) asking me to locate the files, but it dosen't do that all. :/ With you Windows CD in the CD drive, can you browse the folders and files on it with Windows Explorer?Yes, and I can go into the I386/LANG folder on the CD. The thing is, besides doing it the 'automated' way, is there a specific sub-folder in the Windows folder that I can transfer those files into? And which of those would be the Korean one?

But to answer your question simply, yes.Quote from: Wizard on January 12, 2008, 03:35:49 PM

Yes, and I can go into the I386/LANG folder on the CD. The thing is, besides doing it the 'automated' way, is there a specific sub-folder in the Windows folder that I can transfer those files into?
Well, I didn't mean to suggest that approach. I was just seeking some verification that your Windows CD has not been damaged with scratches or whatever.

This is puzzling; I think we need to determine why your computer won't proceed to install the language when you select the box for "Install files for East Asian languages". I've installed Korean before and had no problem. So, I don't know why your system isn't responding the way it should. If I can think of any troubleshooting steps or find any reference, I'll post back.

Anyone else have some thoughts on this?Ok, I believe I found the problem.

The folder "C:\Windows\mui" which usually contains the multilingual files/folders is entirely empty. I believe that a long time ago I deleted the files because under normal circumstances, if you are only going to use English, they are unneccesary and at the time, I was short on space.

I'm almost 99% sure that this is the source of the problem. My new problem is where I can find the files -__-

Any ideas? I can't seem to find a downloadable torrent or something similar :/Well, I just re-installed Korean and my mui folder is empty. However, my IME folder is about 75MB. How about yours? Here's something I think you should see: Microsoft Global Input Method Editors (IMEs)This could very well be the reason. My ime folder is only 600~ kb :/

I am downloading the Korean one atm, thanks! I'll reply if it works

Solve : Book from disk?

Answer»

Computer worked fine yesterday. Got up this morning and my computer is saying "Boot from disk" I tried putting in my windows xp disk to try and rerun that, but it will not run it. I have pictures and DOCUMENTS on my pc that I really need to retrieve. Can someone help?? What caused this and how can I fix it? Im Desperate!!!!!!!Ok firstly, calm down.

So long as you stay calm and follow our instructions you will still be able to retrieve the data on the Hard Drive.

Now, we're going to need to know as much as you can tell us about your machine, the error you're having, and any changes you've made to the system no matter how small.

When you say it SAYS "Boot to disk", what do you mean? What are the exact WORDS?

Is there an option for "Boot Menu" on the first SCREEN you see, before Windows (I assume) loads? It saids, "Boot from CD" I put in Windows XP installation disk and when I hit enter it then saids this, "Disk Boot failure, insert system disk and press enter"There is no boot menu options when I start the computerYour HD may be dead. Solve : Unwanted "Start> All Programs" Enties?

Answer»

Hello, I have an Inspiron B130 Laptop running XP Home. Last WEEK I went to open >Start> All Programs and found several dozens entries; all read similar to "ScanHKCR1192130831-56" next one "ScanHKCR1192130832-58 and so on. When I click on one of them, I get a message asking "Are you sure you want this information added to the registry?" At present I have just under 100 sitting in my All Programs area. This is a tough one; does anyone know a way to stop this?" Thank you. What do you use for virus protection and spyware protection?Well each of those is a registry entry (.reg file)

Right click on one of them and click "Edit" and paste it here. This should help us understand weather these are "kind" or "unkind"

Brontos

EDIT: For the record, a virus does not need your permission to edit the registry, so I'm curious to the reason of this problem.

EDIT 2: Just thought of something - HKCR probably stands for "HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT"Did you do anything unusual before this problem happened? Installed something new, downloaded anything? To KBM292:I use Avast virus and Ashampoo firewall along with 3 spyware programs.

To Brontos: ScanHKCR1192130832-58 is one such listing. I went online and used Trend-Micro's free scan and other than a few basic threats, nothing else was detected on my coputer.Quote

I looked at your post, and it looks like some registry patch. I didn't notice anything suspicious, but it beats me, why would they be listed under Program Files, unless someone saved them there.

Couple of QUESTIONS, then...
- Are you the only user of that COMPUTER?
- Open Windows Explorer, navigate to Program Files folder. Can you see any of those files in right pane?

And jph is correct. The changes take place whenyou re-boot.

I know, it should take effect after a reboot, but it doesn't CHANGE at all, even when I click OK, it changes back to the 'Custom SIZE' setting.I'm confused. I went to Crucial.com and they said DDR memory. I searched that, and when the page I clicked on loaded, it had ddr, ddr memory, ddr ram, ddr sdram, ddr pc2100, pc2100 ddr sdram, ddr sdram memory, pc3200, ddr sdram price, 200 pin, ddr pc2700 ...

My computer has DDR PC2700 according to crucial. I'll see if I can find the right memory stick. YES, I know, Crucial has them, but the shipping costs. I'm a bit SLACK on $$$

I'll get the memory sticks somewhere else.I don't know, where you live, but if you have Fry's somewhere around, that's the best place to go.I haven't put a memory stick in, but amazingly, it works.
No more crazy messages and no more crashing. So, what happened, what did you do?Well, I noticed that AVG Free Edition was doing a virus scan in the background, so I disabled it. That was taking a lot of resources.

Then I rebooted the computer and all was fine.Cool In the main Panel of AVG right clik on Scheduler and select Properties...
Here you can edit the time it runs.
Mine updates at 3AM and runs at4.

When I try to troubleshoot the READ drive, Code 31 comes up. "This device is not working properly because Windows cannot load the drivers required for this device. (Code 31)". Same for the R/W drive. Does that tell you anything? I'm in the dark. IBoth used to work fine. Thanks for helping. DFTry these:

1. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314060

2. http://aumha.org/downloads/cdgone.zip

3. Go to Device Manager, click a "+" sign next to IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers.
You'll see TWO items:
- ATA Channel0 (or Primary Channel)
- ATA Channel1 (or Secondary Channel)
Right click on each of them, and click Uninstal. Confirm.
Restart Windows. They'll be automatically reinstalled. Thanks, Broni, for the help. I followed your instructions, new hdw was found and all, and I restarted, but they still don't work. Note says no CD drives on this computer. I updated drivers but it said both were current - updated them anyway - restarted - still don't work. When I open My Computer icon the drives do no show ( as D & E, as they did before this problem). Any other ideas? Really appreciate your help. DFDid you try all three possible solutions, already? No, just #3, as time is running out on me. We go out of town in the morning for a couple of weeks and I will have to come back to this when I return. Meanwhile, at the other location on another computer I will study ! and 2 and make notes. I sorta thought #3 was a summary of the others.
NOT? Thanks and I'll be back Jan 27. DFNo, it wasn't. Have a nice trip.

Solve : File association 'cannot find file' problem?

Answer»

Hi

Not really a problem but if you have some TIME perhaps you wouldn't mind helping me out...

After years of using XP, I've just discovered that I can add custom commands to the context menu (right click) for file types by using tools > folder options > file types > advanced > add.

But for some reason, some applications will give me a 'cannot find file' or words to that effect when I try to open the file with the newly ADDED entry in the context menu, even though if I open the same file with the same application by selecting properties > open with (the normal way) it opens fine.

I think it's to do with the application as I have got it working with audio files whereby I added a 'convert' entry which when selected, opens the file in a wave edit application ready for converting. I'm now trying to do the same with video & graphic files. I have searched through the applications options (ie VirtualDubMod) & found no reference to file association or context menus.

Any ideas?I've been looking in the registry to see if I can do it that way but I'm STUCK again:

I managed to add an entry in the context menu of all image files by finding HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\SystemFileAssociations > image & then adding the KEY so it looks like this:

This does add * MY CONTEXT MENU ENTRY * in the context menu for graphic images & does open the application when I click on the entry, but it doesn't open the file - just the application ( so close aswell!)

I see that the other shell entry commands for other files are 'expandable string entries' (REG_EXPAND_SZ) but when I try to add an expandable string entry to my COMMAND, it's an additional entry to the default entry (which I cannot remove). I also tried renaming the new expandable entry to default then deleting the old default entry but no go.

I've been searching everywhere for a solution & can't seem to find one...SOLVED!!!

Just add "%1" to the end of the path so it reads:

"C:\Program Files\Program name.exe" "%1"

Thanks to 'DaBoss' (FILExt forum) for solution

This is not an error message but shows the location on your hard drive of a minidump file containing system information when an unrecoverable error condition is detected. You can read about minidump debugging here.

From the information given it looks like a Stop 7F error (processor fault) could be the problem. See here..

Good luckThank you for you'r respose...I looked at the sites you suggested and to be honest alot of this info is way beyond my current understanding...
What i did do was perform a system restore, and since doing so i have not received the error,as well something i believe may have occured was that at the occasions of this error my wife was cleaning and may have hit the power cord?? If the power was SUDDENLY cut off, causing the computer to shut off instantly, could this cause the above error? SURE, it's a POSSIBILITY in the circumstances. Like Broni says - be happy it's fixed - and take over the cleaning from your dear lady or guard your power cable when the vacuum cleaner is around!!! LOL

Solve : XP Pro Max RAM?

I just installed a new motherboard & Processor 2.41 GHz, AMD 64 Processor with max RAM 4 GB. I installed 4 GB of RAM but it only recognizes 3 GB of RAM. The OS I’m using is WINDOWS XP Pro 32 bit, I have TRIED XP Pro 64 bit and don’t care for it because many of my programs will not WORK with 64 bit and there are no updates, but it recognize 4 GB of RAM. Can you HELP?For XP Pro, and other 32-bit OS's, you can only use 2GB for applications. 2^32 = 4,294,967,296 Half those bytes are for the OS kernel, and the other half are for your applications (2GB/2GB). You can shift it into a 3GB/1GB by EDITING your boot.ini file so your apps will have more RAM to use, but your windows can become buggy and it's really not recommended.

Solve : Registry repair and cleaning products?

Answer»

Hello forum. I need some advice regarding registry cleaners and tweakers. Which one is considered the best at doing what it promises?. I do not go into the registry and would like to buy a product that delivers what it promises. I did the free download thing with a couple of them. Scans produced over 700 errors?!!. I don't see how the computer can function with that many errors. Then they ask me which ones I want to fix. If it is that critical an issue , why doesn't the registry fixer just go ahead and fix it. Why ask me? I looked at Reg Cure, Registry Mechanic and ANOTHER, Reg "something". I did not purchase yet because I want one which will do a good job and not ask ME what to do. So...... Any advice as to which one to buy would be appreciated. BTW I have a Dell Dimension, WIN XP SP2 , IE6.0 ,512 MB RAM , 2.4 GB Celeron processor, and...an old fashioned 56K dialup ISP(NetZero) ThanksCcleaner is a great (and free) tool which will fix any errors in your registry. Give it a try.

The reason programs won't just automatically fix anything in your registry is incase it stops the computer from booting, damages the operating in some way etc etc. Hence, it asks for your permission since it is your machine.

Be sure to back up the registry before you fix any issues with it though Read CCleaner instruction here: http://www.jahewi.nl/ccleaner/ccleaner.htmlHello Forum: Thanks to all for replies to my post. My only question remaining is when would you NOT agree with the registry cleaner and NOT delete or remove anything from the registry. I thought that these fixers and cleaners only were removing junk and any other outdated entries that were slowing down or stalling your computer. I have seen many mentions of CCleaner in the forums but never used it. ThanksCCleaner rarely makes mistakes, and always creates backup, so you're safe. Thanks Broni. I will try it. I hope my own Murphy's Law doesn't STRIKE again. EVERY time I try to fix something I break something else. BTW ,will System Restore do the same thing by creating a backup of the registry. In other words, if I have any problems can I restore to a previous date and still be OK? Yes, you can always create Restore Point before making some changes.OK Thank Youccleaner for me is a free download but purchase for it to actually do anything after the scan. you all mention it as free. am i downloading the wrong item?Oh jeez..nevermind...I was going to the page and downloading the program on the advertisement sidebar. rofl. ahem....I knew that. http://www.ccleaner.com/download/builds. Also if it isn't a normal file in system32 what should i do with it?

Thanks for you TIME.ntoskrnl.exe is a legit Windows file, located in %Windows%\System32 folder.Normal. On my computer AVG reported that NTOSKRNL.EXE changed. If you have updated your computer recently, no need to worry. Those listed files are accessed/changed each time a scan runs...perfectly normal. Thanks guys. You're more than WELCOME...

Solve : My system "lost" a drive?

My system no LONGER recognizes that external drive! If I unplug the firewire connection I get the "ker-plunk" sound from the system and again if I reconnect it. So it seems to recognize the electrical connection but not in the software.

Any ideas how to get the system to "SEE" the external drive?

Solve : Wacky Speed Test Results?

Answer»

Through the incredible information I've been able to find on this site, I'm slowly fixing problems here and there that my POOR little computer is suffering from. But I've run across another one, where I'm going to need to ask for help again.

First off, I've got a Compaq 2500 PC, using ADSL and an external modem. I am also using Windows XP. I don't know if this is relevant or not, but I have a Dial-Up PPP Connection with a max speed of 800 Kbps.

When watching videos or playing online games, things will be going along just fine, then BLAM, out of nowhere, everything comes to a snail's pace. Then, after a while (sometimes just a few minutes, sometimes an hour or more), things return to normal. And unfortunately, I have to say, that MOST of the time I'm online, things run more in the slow mode than the "normal" one.

After searching for info here on CH, I found some sites where I could run a speed test. I chose "SpeakEasy Speed Test" and RAN four tests in five minutes. The results were as follows:

Download Speed (Kbps) Upload Speed (Kbps)

Test 1 193 164
Test 2 587 261
Test 3 249 251
Test 4 652 256

Any ideas on what can be causing such a great diversity of speed? And what can I do about it? The first logical thing to do would be to contact your ISP and verify your settings match their recommended settings.

Internet speed can also vary on time of day, depending on how many people are pushed through the same connection by your ISP. While it may appear your connection is only yours, many ISPs feed many people through a single connection. This keeps costs down. My ISP puts about 50 people through the same connection.

Speakeasy's speed test is provided by Speedtest.net. If you GO directly to Speedtest.net's website, you can choose many more locations for testing (nearly anywhere in the world). It also gives you averages for your ISP, your location, and other useful information so you can compare your speed to other people and see if it's just you or everyone (provided those people also test though Speedtest).First, let's confirm: http://www.speakeasy.net/speedtest
That's the one you used?
Just in CASE anyone coming along wants to reply to you, they can be sure they are looking at the same thing you used.

Questions: Which server did you choose? There are eight.
Did you use the same one each time?
Did you choose the one that is closest to you?

Were you doing anything else with the computer during these speed tests?

Were you downloading anything else during any of these tests?

Solve : PC wont log onto windows XP?

Answer»

Hello - new to this forum so let me know if you need any info i dont supply readily.

The situation is this:

My boyfriend's computer (gateway laptop, windows XP) is possessed. Basically its been running slower and slower. Last week it took a good 15 MINS to log on from the windows XP user login screen and boot up into the account. Then after boot up a little window WOULD pop up that said "windows installing...." with a cancel button and nothing ELSE. Now when you try to boot up normally, it gets to the windows XP user login screen, you can input the password for the account and then it just sits there .... doesnt do anything.

I can boot up in safe mode fine with no problems.. It wont connect to the internet however...

Upon doing a few searches on the problem i suspect that his Norton Anti Virus SOFTWARE has become corrupted somehow and is hanging up the system.

SOOOO i tried to uninstall Norton in safe mode, which it wont let you do. And since i cant boot up the computer in normal mode, im at an impasse on what to do.

Help!!?

You might try this:http://support.microsoft.com/kb/307852/en-usRepair Install of XP
I suggest reading thru it to get familiar with the procedure and printing out a copy for reference.

NOTE:If done correctly the machine will have all Programs and Data intact...if done incorrectly you risk losing everything...So im guessing theres no way to uninstall Norton.... without doing the repair of XP....

i am afraid that if i repair xp then it will have the same problem, because i think the problem is with norton...

i will give it a try though.Try this: http://service1.symantec.com/Support/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2005033108162039

Solve : file sort?

Answer»

Recently several programs that use the generic file open and save window CHANGED. For years they displayed file names sorted alpha by NAME. Now they show them by date modified. I can click on the details button to have the option to SORT them by name but that's kind of inconvenient as every new SUBDIRECTORY requires that I do that. I tried changing it in the Windows Explorer by selecting folder options and getting the sort I wanted then telling it to change all folders to look like that one and to remember the look. Works for Explorer by not for the generic file open/save window. There must be a default somewhere. Anybody have any idea? I'm Win 98 SE. it happens in various programs (e.g. adobe photoshop, DREAMWEAVER)

Thanks,

What is generic file open and save window?I think he means the little window that opens when you open or save a file from most programs.that's the one. some programs (e.g ms word) use their own file open/save window while others use a common window.

Solve : Removing Icons?

Answer»

I was hoping that someone can tell me how to remove Icons from the Control Panel list . I have WinXP Home SP2, setup menu style that RESEMBLES Win98. I go from Start -to- Settings-to-Control Panel and there is the list of icons that I NEED to remove some of the icons off that, "if they are considered to be icons". Look thru MSN Knowledge Base already and some other sources and have found no info on this matter. Im sure it probably has to be done thru the SYSTEM Registry but, with out knowing just exactly how I wouldnt try educated guessing on this. Im hoping someone out there has done this or knows how. I hope you can help out..I have several icons that are no good and need to be TAKEN out of the list and right click does not give me any remove or delete options. thanks

Computer Info: Gigabyte MoBo-M55sli-S4 (rev2.0)-AMD CoreX2 @3800 CPU-1gig Kingston 800Mhz RAM-SATA 3.Gb Hard Drive-Wireless G Card-XFX 5500FX Vid Card-other cards and peripherals not listed..

Any help is greatly appreciated,

Thank You,

-JayCan you be more specific?

What exactly are you trying to remove from the control panel and why?

Typically, they shouldn't be deleted (hence the reason right clicking on them doesn't give you that option), but then again, they should be working unless something is wrong with your system.I have an icon that I have to remove, simply because I don't want it there...I have already found out how to do this thru reg.****

Thank you anywayQuote from: litespeed14 on January 22, 2008, 07:24:04 AM

Solve : My Works folder in C:/ ??

Answer»

I have discovered a folder called, "My Works" on my c:/ drive. The folder contains several huge files (1 gig files) with names like:
default.C00
default.C01
kristi.C00
kristi.C01

Can anyone tell me what type of files these are or what is normally CONTAINED in the "My Works" folder?

Fred C00 and C01 files (as far as I can tell) are WinAce files. WinAce is compression software like WinRAR and WinZip. Those files are split compressed files. C00 being the first in the sequence and C01 being the second. As to what might be in those files, your guess is as good as mine. I tried SEARCHING for the specific file names and came up with nothing. Thanks for reply. I downloaded and installed WinAce and tried to open the .C00 and .C01 files. That did not work. Do you know of any way that I could open the file to look at the contents. I've already tried to change the extension to .txt and read with a txt editor, but it did not work. thanksQuote from: frobertson on May 03, 2008, 12:29:09 PM

I have discovered a folder called, "My Works" on my c:/ drive.

Have you or somebody with access to this PC installed Cyberlink DVD Solution or Suite? This application creates a "My Works" folder, and possibly puts big files in it.
I'm not familiar with WinAce compression format, but I suppose, it works similar to RAR files.
C00, C01, and so on are only partial files, so you can't open them.
This is how RAR format works. You'll see files like: *.r01, *.r02.....and finally *.rar file.
When you double click on *.rar file, it combines all *.r01, *.r02....files, and produces one uncompressed file.
You may be looking for some *.ACE file, and double click on it.Guys, that's it. I do have DVD Cyberlink installed on this computer. The files must be some sort of video files. WOW, this forum is great. Thanks!10 points for Dias Very nice Dias.It is flattering to get all this praise, but my conscience will not permit me to bask in it any more. The cleverness is not mine!

You still deserve the praise for being smart enough to google it. Oddly enough, I tried the same search but never got a Cyberlink result or anything that looked relevant. Hmmm...I just tried, and...same as Quaxo.Exactly the same results both in Firefox and IE6 via google.co.uk. Search term was

"my works" folder

& the first result was Cyberlink
Because I'm in Thailand, I get redirected to www.google.co.th, I wouldn't have thought the results would be any different though. Google Thailand's results come from the main Google.com site.

Oh well, solved their problem ANYWAY. Good job! hahaha

Solve : Anti Spyware download problems.?

Answer»

Hello, Mad-Friend here,
my computer is a MEDIAN, about 5 or 6 years old. It uses windows XP.
I do regular downloads of microsoft updates. Apart from the fact Quicktime has never worked my PC goes okay.
I use AVG Antivirus.
Ewido Anti spyware (which is over 2 years old).
I also ran Ad-aware SE.
No long able to obtain updates I uninstalled it and installed Ad-aware 2007.
it took over 2 hours ( I have only dialup) and I don't think it downloaded properly, it hasn't worked right since I installed it. After running a scan it doesn't give me the option to remove the infections. Sometimes it says it can't remove them until I reboot (and then the infections are still there when I restart my PC.)
Fedup with it (Ad-aware 2007) I decided to try another Anti spyware. Read through PC Advice recommendations and installed spyware terminator.
Spyware terminator scanned 130 cookies but although it appeared to remove them they weren't quarantined. So I also installed Windows Defender. By now my PC was crawling along as if catatonic. Practically crashing.
I didn't know what to do so I uninstalled both.
Please can you advise me how to get my PC working at a resonable pace again?
I have read your instructions about which Anti Spyware you recommend but before I go through the proceedure I need to know I am not going to make things worse.
I have SPS2 installed.
I also have ATF Cleaner (2006)
hijackthis (2006)
fixwelch.zip old.
fixbalst.zip old.
Please ask if you need anything else to help you make an assessment.
Thankyou, Mad-Friend
Is your AVG updated, and do you scan regularly? It looks as if at one time or another you had 3 maybe 4 anti-spyware, ad ware programs running at the same time. Ewido, ad aware, Spy Ware Terminator and

It looks to me like you had 3 or 4 Anti-Spyware programs running at the same time. Ad-aware, Spyware Terminator, Ewido, and SPS2 that in itself could create a problem. Regarding Super Anti Spyware there are no guaranties but it is a very good program. I would not recommend anything however if it were me I would remove all those programs except AVG and download Super Anti Spyware, but then that's just me. Good luck with what ever you do.

Quote

I also have ATF Cleaner (2006) <--This is a powerful cleaner and not recommended as a daily drive cleaner. This could be part of the slowdown problems. Use CCleaner Slim instead.
hijackthis (2006) <-- Not antispyware

If AVG is playing up then I would suggest using Avast! Home Free

For anti spyware cryhelp was spot on in suggesting SuperAntiSpyware

I would also suggest using SpywareBlaster 4.0. It uses no resources, you just need to update it every other week or so.

You could also post a Hijackthis log so we can see what all is running and help you get it trimmed down to size.

Hello cryhelp & evilfantasy,
AVG is working well, it updates daily but I must admit I don't run it regularly: it takes about 50 minutes to do a scan.
Ad-Aware 2007 was the problem. The new version didn't work properly as I feel it didn't fully download.

Up until this week I persivered with it and used Ewido Antispyware. I only installed Spyware Terminator & Windows Defender this week, then had to uninstall them when my PC went terminally slow.

I will try to post results from Hijackthis so you can see what is going on.

Thankyou both for your advice, it is much appreciated.

I will download Superantispyware once you give the all-clear on the Hijackthis results.

Thankyou again, it really is appreciated.
Yours SINCERELY, Mad-Friend.Hello evilfantasy & cryhelp,

I downloaded superantispyware SUCCESSFULLY and it worked beautifully: detected and removed 86 infections.

Hijack successfully removed the 2 entries you listed.

All I need to say now is a big THANKYOU

Yes it sets restrictions on the browser to block unwanted activities so it doesn't actually run. You will need to manually check for updates every other week or so.

Solve : Download Stops?

Answer»

When I start to download it goes for 30 sec or so and stops. My internet provider says it is my problem? What could it be?In order to try and help you, the following info is needed + what are you trying to download: LIST as much about your computer as possible. This includes operating system (what version of Windows you are using), service packs, computer make/model, RAM, hard drive, sound and VIDEO cards, current adware/spyware/virus programs being used on a regular BASIS, do you have a "real" Windows CD, etc.

get a download manager like flashget and try the downloads again if you're trying to download some file. If you're trying to download something online like a STREAMING video then that's something else.

Flashget will save your file so that you don't have to start all the way from the beginning if the download stops or internet has problem or something like that! What type of connection is it?
If broadband, no download manager is needed; another clutter to your system.I have a
Dell with 2gig ram
nvida 128 video card
Clear wave wireless internet at 256K
I have check the incoming from clear wave and it looks OK
anything I try to down laod stops after 30 sec you tube and others Still more info...
Browser ?
Router or no ?
All other pages load properly ?Did you talk to your ISP?router ---belkin N wireless but I have wires to all computers but laptop
browser---window internet explorer
everything work but downloads over 30 seconds. big emails will not work
ISP say it is on my end
I have four computers and they all do the same thingmaybe too many other things are running at the same time. Close all other programs and control+alt+delete to shut down just about everything.
download.com has internet download manager that you can try for free for a bit, it's easy to use.
Make sure you have room on your drive, the last 10% should be kept free all the time.
good LUCK!

Solve : Excel doesn't open files from shortcuts (XP Pro machine).?

Answer»

Hi guys,

One of the machines at work doesn't open Excel documents from shortcuts.

When you double-click them, it opens up Excel with just the blank shell, no DOCUMENT open at all inside it. Then you have to use the file-open-... CHAIN to open the document.

I don't know exactly what version of Excel it is, as I'm not at work right now, but any idea for where I could find a fix?

It's a bit annoying being asked over and over how to open the same document...Find the document and create a new shortcut to it on the desktop...if it opens on a double clik you can safely delete the original shortcut.Quote from: patio on January 04, 2008, 08:39:31 AM

Find the document and create a new shortcut to it on the desktop...if it opens on a double clik you can safely delete the original shortcut.

I'll give that a go, but I'm not sure it's just one thing.

Any ideas what might have caused this?No such luck I'm afraid.

You know when you open excel, it normally comes up with an empty 3 page work book.

It doesn't EVEN do that...

Any ideas, or should I ask the boss to fetch some CD's out of the CD closet of *censored*?

She says we're getting a file for them all...which will mean another AFTERNOON skiving work! Woop!Get the CD and do a repair install of Office. Should fix the problem.Quote from: quaxo on January 21, 2008, 04:36:20 PM

3. Remote (RPC)

and all three were turned on and set to auto. I did read the post where
the Repository Folder was deleted in safe mode and then rebooted.
First..I'am not sure what the repository folder is and where it is located.

repository sounds like a folder that would store all the system info.

Do you guys think that if I deleted this folder in safe mode then reboot
that it might solve the problem, but now that I think about it when I ran
SFC / scannow it SAID I had files missing, so doing this might not have any
influence on my problem.

Your feedback is welcome.
Thanks

Solve : SETTING UP AUTOMATIC REPLY E-MAIL?

Answer»

I have my e-mails to [emailprotected] go to my main box at [emailprotected]++++++cox.net.

I set up a separate box for _____dadditivesbook.com for a special promotion. All e-mails sent to this address will have a specific SUBJECT in the subject line and are supposed to receive an automated REPLY with a link.

I tested it a couple weeks ago and it worked.

I went to test it today and every email I SEND to [emailprotected] goes to the [emailprotected] box.

I went in and checked all my info regarding the automated message it's supposed to send out, but the messages aren't even going to [emailprotected] even though that's where they're addressed.

I need help, FAST.

ThanksFirst of all, remove all those email addresses, because by tomorrow morning they are gonna be overflown with spam.

Solve : Please help me with my computer. having a few problems.?

Answer»

My husband installed a game. In order for the game controller to work correctly, I had to change some setting to the port on the Device manger. It didn't work. I went into registry and allowed access to me to change settings. Now the controller WORKS. Well I am having a problem with computer. When I try to open the MY COMPUTER FILE, it shows a magnifine glass and it is searching. it takes between 2-3 minutes to find it and open file, sometime it may take longer. And sometime when I try to open some pictures in my picrtures and view as slide show it takes forever to upload the slideshow. Everything runs fine. I just don't know why it takes forever to open these files. Please help me. Well, it depends what registry CHANGES, you made.
If it wasn't LONG TIME ago, try System Restore.Yep... that's what I would do, restore.

What version of windows are you running? Bit strange you had to do anything with device manager in order to make a controller work, their USUALLY plug & play or you would download a driver.

What exactly did you do in device manager? Thanks doing a system restore worked. Thanks so much! You're welcome We love Broni here! <--------blushing.....don't do it to me...LOL

Solve : PXE-E61 Problem??

Answer»

I have an EMACHINES Desktop that I bought from a friend but it gets a message during the boot.

Message:

COPYRIGHT (C) 1997-2001, Intel Corporation
PXE-E61: Media TEST failure, check cable
PXE-M0f: Exiting Intel PXE ROM.

Any tips? I WOULD really appreciate it.Welcome to the CH forums.

If this error appeared after successful boots then the most likely problem is a hard drive coming to the end of its life. Otherwise, if it appeared after some work was done on the internals it's possible that the hdd and/or other component on the same ide are jumpered incorrectly (both as master is one cause).

Lots of info on the WWW, see here for some ideas.

Good luckGo to BIOS. Make sure, that the boot order reads: floppy, CD, HD
Disable Boot from Network (wording is different on every machine, may say Integrated NIC, Network, PXE-xxxxxxx), if it's enabled. Thanks for the welcome and the replies, though the problem continues...

I CHANGED the hard drive and all it did was start up and go back to the screen when it turns on back and forth. It has a 120GB hard drive and CD/ROM and something Intel something on the boot bio thing.
Maybe I should take it somewhere to see if they can fix it? I didn't understand one word. You could try an inexpensive fix before resorting to paying high rates at the shop...replace the CMOS battery...

Part # CR 2032 available at any computer shop for 5 bucks.

As always when working inside the case remove all power sources and take anti-static precautions.
