Hi all, I am new to this forum, and I am having trouble associating files to a couple of programs. One is RWtools and the other is Winrar. Every time I OPEN a file with either program, I am always asked to chose a program to open them with, whereas in the past on my old computer, I could permanently associate the files with the programs. I have been searching the internet for a solution but nothing is helping. There was once suggestion to look at the program in regedit to see if the path is correct, and in either case, the programs paths were correct. Is there anyone that knows of a possible solution. My specs are.

Windows 10 home 64 bit
Processor Intel Core i7-8700k 3.7 ghz
Ram 16 gig
Graphics Geforce GTX 1080tiSo there is no checkbox to tell Windows 10 to remember?

It sounds like Windows 10 file association is broken for these programs possibly because Windows 10 doesn't support them for file association but that they are supported to still execute and run because 32-bit program support.

If these are the latest editions of these that have Windows 10 support then it sounds like a corrupt install where it wont take the file association. The problem is that as MENTIONED, the DIALOG is broken; it either doesn't set the UserChoice settings, doesn't set the Hash and can constantly ask you over and over even though you check it off each time.

The "solution" is to delete the key for the file types in question from that UserChoice key. Without that setting Windows will instead fallback to standard File associations and will open it with the file directly associated with it.

If that's the case you should enabled it FIRST to your bios, usually it's on bootable MENU, you'll need to select the USB with a windows 10 as PRIMARY.

Hello, on one computer I try to load a VIEW from MySQL database and about ~10 MINUTES in (which is almost how much it takes to load it on other computers) excel just shuts off. Now I have applied the same connection properties as on other computers but this occurs. I have captured this error from even logs. What is the newest? How does it compare? What the the best? And which is the most user friendly ? I'm still manipulating my build. I just want to build something special! I am not putting my PC together myself because I'm not at that POINT yet, I want to consider this kind of software for the specs. Also Games and video editing, One pc! (Well because I don't have the space.) Of course I don't want spend a LOT. yet I'm willing to adjust my budget! (They say 3k usd is a lot but my options are for me.)

Also I realize that I need other COMPONENTS. I just want to ADD this software so that I can put it in to my calculations. And readjust my components if nessecery. I was going with Intel Core i7-8750H PROCESSOR and an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 6GB. To start!
I do not plan to over clock so no water cooling!

I think what you mean is speech recognition. It is already par to f Windows 10, but it does not type for you.You need an application.

My choice is Dragon Naturally speaking. Some versions are overpriced. But you can get a copy of version 12 real cheap on eBay from a few vendors.I see reason to r pay more for the newest version.

Go to eBay and look for Dragon Naturally speaking.

The downside is they let you install it just once. Or maybe twice. It drives me crazy. I have to go to the web site and verify my hardware if I want to install again.

Let say a program is on a server with user account z:\"name of user" you log in you have programs files whatever. And you copied the program files to another computer and its not opening because its telling you to be logging in to the account on the server like it seems to be dependent from the server and you can only access the program on that server. I should probably mention that the program has extension such as ".mde" and ".md" which uses Microsoft access to open.

So my question is how to MAKE it independent from the user on the server. Thank for your help.Why you need to do this is not clear.

Here is some additional information that might be of some help. However, this is not a direct answer to your question.
Programs that have server dependencies might be up to general types. The first is a program that actually consists of a script written in some language such as P HP. The second is a program written in native code that uses the operating system of the remote server.

Furthermore, there is the issue of copyright protection. In the case of a program that you purchased you may have an option to run the program on your computer if the creator of the program has such a provision and if you qualify. Consider the case of where the program is either free or otherwise made available without cost or commercial consideration. Such programs are often MODIFIED and distributed in different forms and such program sometimes I made available to run on a PC without the use of the server.

So the key question here is whether or not you bought the program and whether or not the program is a free program that others can modify and distribute in different forms. Can you contact the program ceator?

In my own personal experience there is a server program that I often use without logging into the server. That is because I have a special program that emulates a server for the PHP script language. However, it is very specific and only applies directly to the specific software package that is available free from the vendor.

I just though of another possibility. If you are a developer, and your developing your own program that has a server dependency, your development tools should have some provision to where you can test your program on your LOCAL computer without the need of an Internet CONNECTION to a server. This depends specifically on what is that appellant package you are using, if that applies to you.

Without more details about what you're TRYING to do, this is the best I can say for now.
I doubt it's his server...just sayin.No its not my server. Its a program on uni server. I wanted to take it so I opened files location and copied the files. Its build for personal use and has an extension of .mde there is no installer and such thing is a regular mde database. When I try to open the program on my pc I get a message like this "make sure that the path name is spelled correctly and that you are connected to the server...". I asked my instructor ( owner of the program ) how to properly take it from server he said he doesn't know about pc stuff a friend did it for him. So I was wondering how can a program only open on his user account on uni server. I don't know what privacy settings made this that's I've decided to ask about the issue.You can't copy programs and files and expect them to work...the app needs installed.

I have a desktop that has Nvidia RTX 2070 and I'm currently using it to our church. I set it up with 4 extended DISPLAYS (2 monitors for the control room, 1 monitor for stage display and 1 monitor for the congregation's display).

My problem is, if we are using Powerpoint presentation, the output only goes to 1 display. is there a way to set the output to 2 different displays?

If the FILES are being downloaded each time from the internet, then your hardware is not the issue at hand. The internet is seldom doing t 5 megabits per second. But local hardware can transfer data at a much higher rate.
The question is whether or not you are using local storage.
There are many PDF readers out there. Some are free and work just as good for just reading.
You can search for 'Free PDF readers' or just look at this website:

The one I like is not even listed.

I'm creating simple batch files for work. Since I need to constantly check switches and servers at various stores. So I need to ping them to see if they are online.
So my batch file is a simple, which just leads to a bunch of this after checking a variable I added beforehand.

My issue is that it opens all of these windows on top of each other. I was wondering if there is some way to tell each to open on a specific area of my screen? Or just not on top of each other?
I'm trying to share these with my co-workers (with my bosses permission of course) so the fix can't be something as simple as messing with the settings of my own cmd promt windows.
Is there a way to maybe "start" command at a specific screen position?

it started a few weeks ago, but i only REALIZED today it was the enter key that caused the minus SPAM. i tried to reset my computer ( without deleting personal files ) and it did not work. it stops spamming after i press the backspace button. an hour later after resetting, i alt-tabbed and it spammed again, letting me know it triggers when pressing the alt button as well now. ( not the tab button though ) i tried disabling the enter button with an app, but it still spams without triggering enter. i thought maybe it was a keyboard problem, but i am using an asus vivobook and have a keyboard cover which would make dirt under the keys unlikely, plus it doesnt make sense. i plan on fully resetting the laptop overnight. any thoughts?

The backup software that came with my portable Seagate DRIVE only does full backups and with 177 gigs of photos and music that takes a while. I want to back up only files that change, some weeks nothing changes, some weeks I'll add two new songs, some weeks I'll add 20 photos. What is the best method of backup incremental or Differential? Are there any other free software that can be used for advanced photo editing besides GIMP? I find it surprising that there are so many free antivirus software, but so few photo (and video) editing software available. Just checked since I was able to get onto a non web content filtered computer and unfortunately the deal for the software at humble bundle is gone.

This also wasn't free in regards to alternatives that were free but it was a really good deal while it lasted getting software for around the cost of $2.14 each program as part of the $15 bundle.

So, I have my main HD and an external HD where I keep my BACKUPS, but keeping them in sync is a pain in the *censored*, having to copy everything to the external HD everytime I change something in a different project is not fun. I'm looking for some way to keep the projects from the main HD and the external HD in sync, EVERY time I'd make a change on the main one I'd like it to reflect on the backup as well. Is there any software out there that could do it?

DSynchronize seems to be one way of doing this (on Windows, at least).

Hello, I recently got a gaming PC. Recieved it 5 days ago. Everything was going fine, then midgame the screen froze and there were little symbols overlaying the screen. There was also some color changing going on. Now when I turn on my computer, even when not in a game the same thing happens after a few minutes. I was playing the game DISC jam at medium settings @165hz/fps when it first started. And before that I had to restart ut because it wasn't coming out of sleep mode. I have gsync on. Of note, I removed the 8gb ram, and replaced it with 32GB 3200mhz ram when I first got it. I have TRIED: doing a clean install of the graphics drivers in geforce experience. I removed the gpu, blew on it, and put it back in. Checked windows security, no PROBLEMS there. Someone suggested it is a "busted gpu."

I pay for a POP3 EMAIL account and use Outlook 2003 to access it. Outlook is configured to leave a copy of the messages on the server until they are deleted.

I have backed up my .pst file on this machine and need to migrate to a new computer. When I use my current .pst file on the new machine many duplicate mail messages are received from the server.

Any emails that I have currently in my .pst file are not detected as being there, and are simply downloaded again from the server. This creates one big mess.

How can I get around this happening please? There must be something that I am not backing up, as Outlook on this machine clearly knows which messages its needs to download, and which ones it does not.

"Outlook is configured to leave a copy of the messages on the server until they are deleted." Change the configuration to not leave any copies until you get this straightened out. Also, check out this possible solution. You don't say what OS you're using so take it for what it's worth.

•Office Suite: Microsoft Office XP (pre-service packs)
The solution is a Hotfix from Microsoft support identified as "OFF2002 QFE 5607".
(This was before any service packs were available for OfficeXP.)
If either OFF2002 Service Pack 1 or Service Pack 2 do not fix the PROBLEM, you must contact MS support. (The Hotfix is not available as a download.)
This fix consists of 2-replacement dll's. (The problem may be fixed in the recent service packs mentioned above.)

Thanks for the response, but maybe I have not explained the situation that well.

When the .pst file is migrated to the new machine it downloads all the emails on the server regardless if there is a local copy present or not. After it has done this, we have no duplicate email issues. It is just for some REASON it does not recognise the emails in the migrated .pst file.

If we untick the option to leave the emails on the server, the next time I test migrating, all the emails will be downloaded to the new machine and then deleted from the server We need the emails to be left on the server for web based mobile access (I never said this I know)

Office 2003 with all updates and no issues before migration attempts.But, Alan, he's using Office 2003, not Office XP. These Hotfix's and service packs are usually designed for specific versions, right? I believe so.

Maybe he should install SP2 for Office 2003 if he does not already have it, although I don't know that that would make any difference here.

Luminous, how did you set up the POP3 email account on the new computer? By exporting it and importing, or from scratch?Migration procedure was as follows:

1) Install office, then updates for office
2) OPEN outlook, let it create the account but do not setup an email account
3) Navigate to the blank .pst file outlook created and replace it with the backup .pst file
4) Reopen outlook, and setup the email account from scratch (using identical settings to the one on the original machine)
5) Hit send and receive, then sigh in disbelief as it downloads over 1000 duplicate emails. It simply ignores the local copy of the messages I just copied your question into an Outlook newsgroup. Think of newsgroups as specialized forums; there's a lot of expertise out there. If someone replies, I'll post it here.Woohoo

I have tried a few places and just not managed to find someone with the same issue as me, apart from EXPERTS Exchange...which you have to pay for. I don't get that site, you pay for membership, but anyone can answer your question, not necessarily an expert I received a reply in the newsgroup: microsoft.public.outlook.installation. Here it is:

The reason why mesages are downloaded again is because the information on
which messages have been downloaded already is not kept in the PST, but in
the mail profile in the registry. Moving the PST from one machine to the
other cannot synchronize that informaiton. There are several approaches.

One (and the best, in my opinion) is to disable the option of leaving
messages on the server. If you must leave them there, for whatever reason,
then the next best solution is to use a web interface to the server mailbox
and move them to a folder other than the Inbox on the server, if your server
allows you to create alternate folders on the server that way (most do). If
the messages aren't in the Inbox, Outlook won't see them.

Another approach is to create a new PST, make it the delivery location,
allow all the messages to download into that PST, then switch the delivery
location back to the original PST, closing the added one and, thereby,
removing the duplicates all in one go. From that point on, Outlook will
know what is has downloaded already.

A third alternative is to just let all the messages download again and
acquire a duplicate remover. See

Does anyone have ZoneAlarm installed on their computer (the newest update)? I had it on mine, and my internet kept stuffing up. But as soon as I shut it down, the internet went back to normal. I have a Toshiba Tecra M1 with 1.6Ghz processor and 1024Mb RAM.
My OS is Windows XP SP2.
When I boot my PC and its almost completely done.
I always get the windows installer It gos to 75% and then it closes I got this PROBLEM Yesterday just after I updated my PC trough Microsoft Update.
I don't think its a virus because I have Windows Live Onecare and I've already runed AVG and Spybot S&D.
I've tried to go to the process but its just a little to fast.
Does someone have then same problem with those new update or isn't it that witch caused my problem?

It isn't solved yet I thought that Windows would do that for me but it doesn't.
Its the system process witch causes this problem sow I can't end the process or deactivate it on msconfig.
I don't have any other IDEA how I can check the proces and maybe end it.

DVD Properties tells me D drive is full, no FREE space. It will not import pictures

Some shareware softwares have limits on how MANY computers they can be installed on.
As for your CD, does it work on another computer?
If not, it is possible the data is corrupted or the side opposite from the very shine side is damaged.

I found out the scratching the shine side of the cd doesn't make the disc unusable. I used a knife and wrote my name in the cd and it still WORKED fine, still able to watch my movies on it.
If you damage the side with the manufacture logo and where you can write stuff, it destroys the data on the disc.Thanks for this info, I'll keep watching just in case someone knows for sure but I did not know what you told me*... I'd give you a Karma point but they took away all of our FUN!

You're saying the data is on the same side as the logo, the side that can also be used for labeling with marker or even printed on with some printers. Hey everyone.
Here is the story, I've currently made a new account on my computer, Windows XP Home. After CREATING the new account, i had to reinstall some programs.
I didn't have to reinstall MS Office (2003) but every time i open it or try to open a file (word/excell/ect) There is this message that COMES up and says 'preparing to install' and something like that.
I continue on with the message and it says to enter the cd but i can't find my cd
I don't need help with that, I have MS Office working on the other account.

My question is, is there any good free software that behaves like MS Word, Excell and POWER Point, or just an editor.

My BOSS is having PROBLEMS with his computer.

It's an HP Pavillion ZT1130,
with Windows XP 2002


When he tried to open his MS Outlook this morning he got the following error
message.

"Outlook could not open the file used to send and receive email, create appointments, and open the address book. Please select from the options below.
-Create New Personal Folders File
-Open Exsisting Personal File Folder"

The .pst file that outlook uses is where is should be and hasn't been altered.

Thoughts?

So, Outlook opens, you get the message, and then it closes, RIGHT? Could be the .pst file is corrupted or Outlook itself has gotten corrupted. Can you take the .pst file to another machine with Outlook on it and do a restore to TEST it?

Try reinstalling Outlook and do a restore of the .pst file.

My COREL Suite 8 wordprocessing program corrupted and the error message indicated that it was a problem with .dll Pfit80. I copied a new .dll to my computer and it should be available for repair. (for whatever reason, I can still apparently access and use the spreadsheet portion of Suite

However, I think it would be easier to "uninstall" Corel Suite 8 with the pre-programmed "uninstall" feature and re-install Suite 8 off the original disk that I have.

I need to know the following:

How do I copy all the word processing and spreadsheet documents with a DOS command? I would probably put the FILES in Windows "My Pictures" for storage.

Once Corel Suite 8 is uninstalled and re-installed, how do I use a DOS command to move the files back into Suite 8, My Files?

Open the query in design view and make the changes you want there. If you want the changes to then appear on the form, you would either need to change the form as well, or create a new form that is bound to the query.snowsl00, where do you stand now? Any change yet? If not, I suggest deleting your query and re-creating it. If it still does not update, that would make me think there may be some fallacy in the procedure you're using to create the query.

You might create a LITTLE test database and practice creating queries and see whether your query updates. Here's a good tutorial: Creating Queries in Access.

My boss barely knows how to right-click, so I'm the default IT person here, even THOUGH I don't know all that much more. So please forgive me if I appear dim-witted. I assure you it's genuine.

Every now and then when he tries to send an e-mail from Outlook 2002 (on a machine running XP Pro w/ SP2), the e-mail gets stuck in his Outbox and won't send. No error message appears. This morning I was FIDDLING with it, and noticed that when I opened his Outbox, the "e-mail account" field for that message was empty. I clicked "accounts" and chose one, and the message flew of towards its destination, none the worse for wear..

I'm guessing that this has been the problem every time (although I don't know that - in the past we've had to delete the message and start over, and even sometimes reboot, if memory serves). It can produce different file TYPES too, and is free.
Try out some of the alternatives though, by using Google as unlovedwarrior suggested.
Just saying, I have had exerience with Wink and it works fine.Using a screen recorder does slow your computer down A LOT, for example:
Opening MS Word normally would take like 2 seconds.
With screen recorder on, it would probably take 10-15 seconds to open MS Word.Depends on the quality settings, the output file FORMAT, and the recorder itself.
I found that Wink made no difference, but another one I tried (can't recall the name) made the PC too slow to be useful.
If it does slow the PC down too much, consider reducing the quality, or recording the audio afterwards.I have SnagIt8 and it slows my computer down to like 50%. About five days ago something happened to cause me to be unable to open email attachments in Outlook EXPRESS. These are common FILES such as doc and pdf files I have never had a problem opening. I am unable to find any settings in Outlook Express that correct the problem. I can save the file and then open it. Does anyone know what may have happened?

MarkYes, Outlook is a horrible program and does STUFF like this on a random basis. I'd switch to Mozilla Thunderbird if I were you. Open Outlook Express / go to Tools / Options / Security & uncheck the "Do Not ALLOW attachments to saved or opened that could potentially be a virus" box. Exit OE and try it again.

Alan <>< Thanks for the help. One of the first things I did was check the setting you mentioned. It was not the problem. I am happy to report that I have found a solution, however. By deleting the account in OE shutting down OE and rebooting, then re-entering the account, I have CLEARED up the problem. That does not really explain what the problem was, but it eliminated it. All atachments now open.

What you NEED is a program like Alcohol 120% It'll rip your dvd's and burn them too.hmsam,given your use of the words "dvd movie" the SUGGESTION of "alcohol 120%" may NOT work(see small limitation print at bottom of software promo page)..An alternative you may wish to check out (it's free) is "DVD Shrink" it too will both save and burn a DVD within the program (HOWEVER it will use an onboard DVD burning program that it will associate itself with--such as Nero CD/DVD burning software or another equivelant. A normal music CD is 700Mb/80 minutes.
So if you burn what is usually called (in most burning programs) an "Audio Disk", this will be 80 minutes. Music files will be converted to cda format during the burn.
If you burn an MP3 or WMA CD, you can burn 700Mb of songs, usually a few hundred songs depending on quality.
Files will also be converted during the burn.
However, these CDs cannot be read by some players.

Hey look, Rob P's back !!!! Not too sure, but I think you can then use iTunes to rip the music from this CD onto a PC, and then onto an iPod.
Carbon's point about WMA and MP3 files is valid, WMA is smaller but uses more battery power.
I recommend burning an MP3 disk in this case, a PC will be able to recognize it for sure and iTunes will no have to convert the music, resulting in a loss of quality, as iTunes can rip direct to MP3 but not WMA.
You can probably copy/paste from an MP3 CD too, which you can't with a standard audio CD.

i have recently done a format on my C drive leaving my D drive.And in that case i had DOWNOAD ACCERALATOR PLUS(DAP) but that vanished off as i had format.But now i have downloaded DAP again.and then usin DAP i have downloaded QUINTESSENTIAL PLAYER.But after running the setup FILE of QUINTESSENTIAL PLAYER - IT started a commant promt and then closed too.Now it no more a set up file ..

i'm trying to install ffdshow and Dscaler on a computer that is not conected to the internet and i get a message that i need directX 9 or higher to connect these two.I downloaded directx9 on a different computer but i cant see it anywhere.Shouldnt it be in the list of PROGRAMS at the control panel?Is it possible to COPY this on a disc so i can install it in the other computer?I believe it's normal not to see that in Add or Remove Programs. To see what version of DirectX is installed, run dxdiag (Start, Run, and type dxdiag in the Open box). When the DirectX Diagnostic Tool opens, look on the tab named System. The last item under System INFORMATION should be the DirectX version installed.

If that other computer is CONNECTED to the Internet, go to Microsoft and get DirectX update; it requires the validation procedure. Or, for an independent download, you can get it at http://www.filehippo.com/download_directx/

1. Make sure your computer is set to attempt boot from a CD before the HDD. (in the BIOS settings).
2. Assuming you have previously burnt the Ubuntu Linux CD, insert this as you are BOOTING the computer up (as soon as possible), or insert it when the computer is on, then restart your system.
3. It will come up with a Ubuntu screen soon enough, asking various options such as
-Start or Install Ubuntu
-Start in safe mode
-Check CD for defects
etc.
Choose to start or install Ubuntu. This will load up a "Live" version of the OPERATING system, running from the disc. When you have had a bit of a look around, double click the "Install" icon on the desktop. This will start up the install process.
4. Go through this process, choosing the appropriate options at the appropriate times (such as the Hard Drive you want to install it on).
5. Ubuntu will automatically install GRUB on your system if you have another operating system - this is a program that will let you choose which Operating System you want to boot into at startup. You will have a few seconds to choose between XP or Linux at startup before it automatically boots into Linux.
6. Once the install process is completed, just restart your computer (the CD will automatically take you through that), remove the disc, and start the OS of your choice.

Hope that helps. If you ever need to remove linux, and just want to boot from XP at startup, insert the XP disc, and go to recovery console. Type in "fixmbr" and "fixboot", selecting yes to both when asked if you are sure. Good luck.

Every timer I enter/exit Word 97 or click on "save as", I get the following MESSAGE: "Computer Error in HIDDEN Module - MAIN". The module is protected and I do not know how to unprotect the module.
