Solve : Problems with Office 2010?

Answer»

Hi There

I have just uninstalled Office 2010, when I thought it was Project Professional 2007.

I have the 2010 DVD but it will not re-install,either via start-run or add remove etc.

In my desperation I have tried "system restore" .

In case somebody asks does my drive work etc

Yes I can explore a dvd in the drive. ( D: )

I inserted a Nokia software disc, something that I new I COULD safely delete if it did decide to go on auto-run or extract itself etc etc.

First before inserting the disc I OPENED   Windows Explorer, then clicked on C:, this showed my VARIOUS drives below C: etc.

When I was happy I then inserted the disc, I heard it run up and at the same time I noticed the tree expand to now include the title of the disc.

One click on D: not only gave me the contents of the disc in the right hand pane but gave me the contents in the tree below D:

Can somebody please provide me with a link that will help me restore Office 2010 or give a fix that will allow me to run my DVD.

Yes I know what you are ALL saying what a "silly billy" or words to that effect, but I am sat here tearing my hair out, what little there is ! ! ! ! !

Yours frustrated

Tony
Just to clarify, when you insert the Office 2010 disc, does the installer start?  Do any errors appear?

Also, have you tried double-clicking the "setup.exe" file on the disc? Quote from: Kip on March 27, 2012, 08:43:46 AM

I have just inserted the Office DVD in the drive and it has spun up and I can see it in the route directory.

Now here is a weird thing.

The contents are as follows;

x64 folder

x86 folder

autorun.inf

setup.exe   [ greyed out, I can not click on it ]

While I have been typing this it has not allowed me to either click or double click on any of these items, and the drive is still spinning.

Just gone to click the cross to close Windows Explorer and I now have a message;

End Program - OFFICE14 ( D: )           This is the blue header band at the top

This program is not reponding.          That is the first line of the message

I am now going to click END NOW on this message;

All the icons have gone from my desktop.

It is still spining

I am now going to take it out of the drive

If I dont conclude this you will know it has shut down otherwise I will be back.

DVD out and all the icons have returned from their brief holiday
Can you put a different disc in the drive just to verify that the drive is working?  You do not NEED to install anything, just see if the any of the files are accessible.Sounds like your DVD drive is getting ready to fail...

If you have 32 bit Windows installed you clik Setup and choose x86...Also, is this an original, retail copy of Office or a burned copy? And forgive a silly question, but have you tried rebooting and trying again? Quote from: ALLAN on March 27, 2012, 09:25:39 AM

Hi There Alan

Retail copy

This started yeserday, so the answer is yes

Please see below where I re-inserted the disc, that was this afternoon Quote from: patio on March 27, 2012, 09:18:00 AM

Patio, I believe he cannot click Setup.  I think you are likely correct about the failing drive.

This would pretty much be magic rather than science. How do you expect any software to do that? Unless you mean extracting EXIF information. This is information ("tags") added to an image file by many cameras at the time of taking the picture or added later in a computer using software - time, date, make of camera, aperture, shutter speed, if flash was on, etc, etc, and in some cameras, GPS location information, and potentially much more. Often the photographer will add extra information such as title, name of photographer, notes, comments, all sorts of THINGS. Is that what you meant? If so, there are dozens of programs that can do that, just Google for EXIF readers or tools. You are only going to get out what has been put there, no software can do magic tricks. Not every picture is going to have every possible EXIF tag filled.

Thank you Salmon Trout, yes this what i meant, your quote " title, name of photographer ".

Truenorth, i do understand that. That is why i'm trying to find out the author's name or site.

I don't want to be extradited to the states for geting photos of the web, as is happening at the moment,  and be incarcerated for 30 years.

Solve : Print to PDF converter for Internet print.?

Answer»

I have a PDF file on the Internet that I can not save to my hard drive. But I can print one page at a time. Use a free Print to PDF CONVERTER still only gives one single page at a time. The select pages option is grayed out.

Is thee a way to automatically print pages so that it WOULD be saved to files with consecutive numbers?

What web browser are you using?  What PDF reader do you have installed?  Do other multi-page PDFs on the Internet print OK, i.e., multiple pages from one print action?  I am using Firefox 11. My PDF reader is Foxit 5.0

The problem is only with one web site. The site is a bonus for a book I bought on Amazon. On the inside of the back of the book  an offer to use a web server that gives me free 45 day on-line version of the same boo. This would be good for me as I have trouble with low vision. The reader one the site is not the Foit reader and it would seem the format is not PDF, or maybe a special form of it.

Presently, I can print one page at a time. Or save one page at a time. The book is over 500 pages. I guess I could just take the next 45 days to save the whole book. On page at a time. Click, click click. Frolicked-click.

Any ideas?

On the inside of the back of the book  an offer to use a web server that gives me free 45 day on-line version of the same book.
Is that web server from Amazon or the book publisher?  Can you find any support email address that you could contact about this issue?  Do you know whether Amazon sells an ebook version of the book?  If so, this may be helpful: How To Download Free Amazon Kindle eBooks To Your PC

And, as possible practical solution, do you have a magnifying glass you could use for reading?  I don't think I would print 500 pages one page at at time. Yes, I will just use my misgiving glass. Just nice if I could use the computer. With the computer nI can adjust the degree of magnification easily. With a lope it is hard to hold the book a just the right distance for long periods of time.

The site and offer was not from Amazon. It would have been better for me to buy a book that Amazon has in PDF format. Next time I buy a book I am going to consider that.
The e-book web site site wants me to pay them $30 for an unlimited subscription to books hey have. Or, I can download a chapter at a time for a fee.  I don't think so.

Anyway, I have 45 days to enjoy the one-line book. After that, back to using the eye-glass lope. Quote
free 45 day on-line version

I can not save to my hard drive

This is probably by design...

What web site?

What book? The book is a new book about  making Android Apps.
I put three png images non my web site. Here is the folder:
http://geek9pm.com/books/
The three images are front, back and last page. The last page has the on-line offer.

I didn't want to put the images here, because they look horrible when reduced and unreadable. Also, I don't want CH to be frumped  with the bandwidth. Last night. March 22,  the CH was off line for awhile. I don't wanna be the straw that brook the camel.

I respect what they did. You don't get a free PDF copy of the book. You can only use a server-based viewer and can not copy the whole document in one step.
But I didn't understand that when I started.

I'm confused. Is this file related to the original post in some way? Is it the actual file that looks like that to you? (because it looks fine here).

If it is a post you couldn't be bothered to copy paste into a new thread which you couldn't be bothered to start... well, I haven't bothered to read it.

Yes, the file is about the problem going on. Trying to answer the question about have I lost access to my computer, except for script? I'm not sure exactly what that means, losing access to the computer.
So, I've written a long thing, and explains what all has been going on, and how long all this has been going on, etc..
I used Notepad to write this all out, so I uploaded the file.
Copy and paste doesn't work so well anymore, since the Remote Access has messed things up.
The last time I tried to copy and paste something, the text for some reason keeps getting erased or something. They aren't receiving anything.
In the file, it explains what all was working prior to the Remote Access.

Thanks,
Amy Oooh... I remember you. Never mind.I still say it's Mandarin.... That CONTAINS Mandarin characters (I know how to read and write Chinese) but is merely the result of a computer mangling up the original text due to wrong encoding. What program are you trying to open your text file in?I opened the file in Notepad:

Quote
Not sure what you are trying to ask about losing access to the computer?

This is my mothers computer at the moment I'm using, since both of ours have been
messed up since this guy who did Remote Access, turned out to be not the Correct
guy we were trying to contact.
Someone pretending to be him. So, his account was hacked, which MADE it not be the
correct person.

Problem has been occuring since August of 2009, which is when the Remote Access
was done.
Yes, very slow to get all this resolved.

A brief description of things we understand about computers, to not waste any time
on things we already know how to do and stuff.
We understand difference between moving and copying things.
Like if you have a file in one folder, moving and copying are not the same thing.
I'll makeup some folder and file names to use for my examples on what we know
about.
Folder Names
1. Math
2. Science
3. Practice Documents

File
1. math.txt
If I have that file in the Practice Documents folder and want it to stay in that folder and
be in the Math folder too, then, I would select that file and then hit copy and then
find the Math folder, and hit paste, and it should now be in both.
If I don't want it in the Practice Documents folder anymore, and just in the Math folder,
I would select the file and then hit Move, and then find the Math folder, put it in there.

We also know about you can't have files that have the same name, or it will overwrite it.

Prior to the Remote Access, things that were working and are no LONGER working
properly on both computers, are Adobe Shockwave and Flash Player.
Again on my mom's at the moment, when we go to different sites that require it,
there is a message there saying 'This site requires Adobe?Flash?Player.'
Tried going to download it again, and failed. Gave us a version that is older than
the one we already have.
Also, Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.. All of those things not working right
anymore.
My High School Reuinon happened again, and prior to the Remote Access, the
reuinon we had, the forms we had to fill out worked just fine. But this time, the forms
were not working right. I couldn't fill them out. She sent them in 2 formats, which have to
do with software the Remote Access guy is for some reason telling me 1 of them don't work right
on Iphones, etc.. Don't know why he is telling us any of this. Like is he confused of something as to
what stuff we even have it almost seems.

About the only thing I'm trying to remember is, what exactly is it that is allowing things to link together?
Isn't it 1 of the symbols or punctuations that is allowing links to work? With all the stress and everything,
little things like that I just plain can't think of it anymore, and certain parts of my illness, which cause more stress
too, and I'm suppose to try to avoid, causes my mind to just go blank at times too.
So, trying to figure out, a way of getting the files back to my computer that belong on mine, that are now
on my mom's and off the internet too, and other files the guy linked together wrong.
Things start with a forward slash in some things. I guess is his method of doing something.

I did also just do some other searches around, and do think I maybe found some helpful stuff. A big list
Summary list of things that went on during the dates that the Remote Access was happening. Alot of functions
he tried to do, looks like failed and stuff, but some things look like he tried to even create a new directories,
and stuff and Uninstall certain things too. Not sure what Softwares and stuff he was using either. Since
he just says a bunch of very Vague thing about everything. Which yes, surprising thing is that he does admit that
in one of the messages he writes. Maybe he was having a guilty conscious.

Thanks for all the help everyone gives with things.

Solve : Adobe Reader Issue?

Answer»

Today i needed to be able to access a .pdf file so as to be able to read and print it. When i tried to open the pdf file i was told i needed a software program to do so. A list of programs that could do so was presented.I did NOT realize that i already had Adobe Reader V9 installed (even had a desktop icon so named). However i went AHEAD and installed Adobe Reader v 10. Then i completed the task re the pdf file. Then became aware i had 2 shortcuts on the desktop for Adobe Reader. One for 9 and another for 10. Went to add/REMOVE programs to remove v 9. By the way the version 9 was really there. It does not appear in add/remove programs. Researching on-line it appears that this is a case where installing an upgrade version does not remove the old version.Apparently the method to use with this program is to manually remove the old (leaving none) and then install the new. How one could uninstall the old when it doesn't exist in add/remove and no propitiatory uninstall exists with the program is a mystery to me. Anyone experienced this and how was the old version removed? truenorth

I believe installing Adobe Reader where an older version exists normally removes the older version.  At least, that's what I gather from http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/333/333223.html.  So, your situation seems abnormal.

I think I would uninstall version 10 and then look to see whether version 9 reappears in Add/Remove Programs.  If it does, then I would uninstall it too and install Foxit Reader, as suggested by other members.  I've been using Foxit with Windows 7 for many months now and like it very much.

If you uninstall Adobe Reader 10 and you still have Adobe Reader 9 but it does appear in Add/Remove Programs, you might try Revo Uninstaller to get rid of it.  Quote from: soybean on March 13, 2012, 03:15:39 PM

That's the brilliant thing, it's not: Download the Evince 2.32.0.145 for Windows installer for Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows 7. Well, it is often bundled with Linux OS but now I see it is also available for Windows. Thanks all i will try your suggestion soybean and will do the Foxit install. It must be removed and as i stated it also stated it should be removed BEFORE the upgrade. truenorthtruenorth, please let us know how it goes.  One thing I'd like to know is whether Adobe Reader 9 is still functional on your computer if you remove Adobe Reader 10.  Also, does Add/Remove then still not show version 9?

Perhaps a missing file association was the problem. soybean,Wilco, truenorthsoybean, As per your request. V10 uninstalled no problem from add/remove. Ver. 9 did NOT appear in add/remove. Installed "Revo Uninstaller" and it's list did NOT include any reference to Ver 9 (or any Adobe Reader versions). Did a windows search (win xp sp 3 ) and found an orphan ver 6 that had not been installed. Deleted it directly  from the search window. Found a 2kb ver 9 shortcut that did nothing. Deleted it. 2nd 2 kb shortcut opened Adobe Reader ver. 9. window. Could do some things but not all. For instance i could access the online help link but i could NOT get it to  do anything when i clicked on "repair" even though that option was not greyed out. I have installed Foxit 5.1. There were pages of entries when i did a search on "Adobe" but i do have Flash and Photoshop installed as well so how many are associated with Reader i don't know. I guess the only option is to uninstall the line items from the search as they clearly indicate Reader Ver.9 and leave the rest alone.By the way when i did a search after removing Ver.10 using the search parameter Adobe Reader no results were found. But as i said when i searched on the broader term Adobe results relating to reader ver 6 and ver 9 were found. If you feel i should do something different than my intention please advise. I won't line item remove until you comment. truenorth Quote

Do you mean a search via Windows Search function, i.e. searching folders and files, or a registry search via the Windows Registry Editor?

I think one option in this situation is to download the version 9 that you have/had and install it, LETTING it install in the same folder as the original installation.  The idea here is to overwrite the existing installation which seems to be corrupted and also get Adobe Reader 9 to appear in Add/Remove Programs so that you could then uninstall it in the normal way or, if you want, leave it installed if it's working right. I would say that ver 9 is NOT working right given that it did not react to the pdf file i was seeking to open. No i don't want it as i will give Foxit a try. I really don't have anything i can credibly state that would cause me to argue that i don't think a fresh install of ver 9 would overwrite the current ver 9 just a feeling that i wouldn't associate itself with it. Yes i mean a search via the windows search from the start menu. Extremely reluctant to do anything via the registry.truenorth

I just used Windows 7 and Firefox 10 with Hotmail and it worked alright. Not superb but then again, it's Hotmail we're talking about; the most overrated email provider ever known to man.

Regardless of my fanboyism, Incredimail being present on that system alone tells me it's a mess. No SECURITY-conscious user would use incredimail. The problem most likely does not lie with Firefox, something is preventing it from working. All Hotmail does is serve the user with CSS, HTML and Javascript and a bunch of languages that Firefox has no problems interpreting.

This user should report to the spyware section so their system can be cleaned.

Solve : Artisoft session XL?

Answer»

I need to run Artisoft Session/XL in a windows98 DOS window. When I try to load it, I get err 'your program caused divide overflow.'  however when I go into bios and disable mem cash level1 and 2 it runs, but the computer gets so slow that this is no good. I am logging into an old Novell 3.11 network to access session and other dos software. Everything used to work fine under dos 6.22 and 486 processors. How can I get around this issue?
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=KB;en-us;q240982

Try that, yeah. This patch is for fox pro 2.6 ?!?
Ah, you're right. I was under the assumption it was an update for Windows 98 somehow.

Still, the problem is that the computer is too fast for the program. That may apply to your program as well. Did you try underclocking your hardware? Here is what I did: I moved the programs to the win98 computer and booted in dos "command prompt only". I ran "SXL get.job" and received this error "PROBLEM LOADING DRIVER, Your program caused a divide overflow error." Note that I can run this program without error if I enter BIOS and disable Mem cache level 1 and level 2. Doing this allowed SXL to load and execute, but slowed the subsiquent programs to the point that I found this computer still processing 12 hrs later. It usually takes 1 hr. I have the same problem loading Support.exe and the same change to BIOS allows it to load successfully. Interestingly "[LH] sapplica -x-a" works OK without changing the BIOS. This computer has an AMD-K6-2 processor at 450 MHz. However, I have the same conflict issues with cache memory on other processors.
Did you try emulating it in DOSBox on a more modern machine? Yes. Tried DOSBOX and FreeDos on various computers. Also I've installed dos 6.22. In all cases I need to disable cache memory. But some systems go fast enough to be used although they run slow. And you tried to underclock your CPU to below 333MHz? I haven't done that. How do I do it?
Quote from: jgcincy on March 01, 2012, 12:37:44 PM

I haven't done that. How do I do it?

Well, these old mainboards would have their clocks set through jumpers on the mainboard. Get me the name of the mainboard and i'll have a look at the manual.I'm TRYING to set up another machine now: Intel N232 board; 500 MHz Pentium III
I have the same error messages.
This seems like a memory address problem, but I'll try whatever you suggest.
I can't seem to find a manual for that mainboard.

How much RAM do your machines have?

And can't you use any of the other numerous Artisoft products they released? I can't do without the automated scripting of session XL. It gets called from within a dos program; waits for a time; polls several HOST locations and retrieves files; the dos program then processes the files and creates send back files for those locations that polled successfully; session XL then calls those locations and sends the files; then sends a command to process the send back file. I bought the updated Co-Session software, but they dropped the automated REMOTE scripting application!

I will answer the other part of your question tomorrow.
The other computer has an Intel SE440BX mother board.
System cache memory 512KB; conventional mem 651K; upper mem 101k; xms 67.7M
What other software might work? I need to be able to call it from a command line in a batch file (passing the connect parameters), call a remote computer and retrieve a file, close automatically and continue executing the batch file.

Solve : IP-adress?

Answer»

Hi

Thought this would be the best forum to put this topic in...

I've been stalked trought the internet for over a week now and I was wondering if it is possible to find the IP-adress from a Windows Live account?
I know that you can find the X-Originating-IP in the source code but only when an e-mail from that person was sent to you.

And when I sent an (empty) e-mail to that person I can't see his IP but only mine..

Can somebody please help me and explain how I can find his IP-adress because that person is really bothering me.

Thanks! Why don't you report that person to your ISP and/or the police?
Salmon has given you excellent advice. Your intended route may only serve to accelerate the malfeasance of the perpetrator and cause you further and unpredictable grief. This is not the kind of issue to try and be the Sheriff. truenorthI am going to report this to the police but if there would be any chance I COULD find out who that person is, and I have that right, I would take it.
I wonder how the two of you would react if something LIKE this would happen to you..
You will not learn much from an IP addy...
Also due to Forum rules it's not the kind of advice we banty about...even though we probably know the answers.

Take Salmon's advice and move on... Quote from: Jasper91 on March 06, 2012, 02:55:59 PM

I wonder how the two of you would react if something like this would happen to you..

That's not the point; this isn't a chat room, it's a publicly available globally accessible web forum indexed by Google, and therefore we aren't just THINKING of what we or you personally might or could or would do, but also who else might be reading this in the future. Furthermore, even if you did know this person's IP address it is hard to see what you could do with it, since the actual name and street address of that ISP customer is held by the ISP, and even if you knew that, taking the law into your own hands might well GET you in trouble with the police, and would make you just as bad as the person you allege is "stalking" you. In fact it sounds like you want to find out their IP address so you can stalk them back. How do we know you aren't making up the stalking thing anyway? People do make up STORIES on forums to get people to help them do things that they shouldn't. For xxample "My kids reset the laptop password" to cover "I bought a hot laptop".
I'd like to know how someone can stalk you on the internet?
What sort of things are happening to you Jasper?

Solve : Moving microsoft office to new computer?

Answer»

This is probably going to sound like a dumb question, but please bear in mind I'm a bit of a novice computer wise.
We currently have a laptop but are getting a newer one. We might get a notebook, we're not totally sure yet. But how do we get our Microsft Office software onto the new computer/notepad as we can't find the discs (plus a notepad doesn't have a disc drive just usb's), and don't know if we have the activation key?LibreOffice is a good alternative: https://www.libreoffice.org/The short answer is probably going to be "you can't".

The longer answer is that:

Microsoft Office is made so that you have to install it from disc. Computer makers often create a disk image for each model that they sell, containing the appropriate version of Windows, complete with any preloaded software sold as part of the deal, which they clone onto each new computer at the end of the assembly process. Recovery discs are included which can bring the machine back to as-sold condition. These can be purchased in the event of loss. They are not suitable for use on other machines, both for technical and legal reasons, as you will gather below.

If Microsoft Office was pre-loaded on the older machine in this way then there is no way that is is technically possible to transfer that installation to another machine.  Nor would it be legal (in TERMS of the licensing status of the Office installation) to do so, even if you could physically do it, which you can't.

If the MS Office package was supplied on disk with the older machine as an OEM version intended for use on that machine, then it is tied to that machine, and in fact may have a modified installation routine which will check for qualifying hardware (the machine that it is tied to). Even if it did not, it would be a violation of the Microsoft EULA (End User License Agreement) to perform such an installation, and quite possibly a subsequent Windows or MS Office update would invalidate the installation, preventing its further use.

If the MS Office package came as a "full retail" disc, then its licence would allow installation on one fixed (desktop) and one portable (laptop, notebook, netbook, etc) computer only, provided that the portable device is only used by the primary owner of the fixed one. You cannot install MS Office on two portable computers under one licence. To comply with the licence, you would have to uninstall the first portable installation of Office before proceeding with the second.

In any case, you do not have either disks or activation code. Your only legal (and technically feasible) solution will be to either purchase a new machine which has its own MS Office (preloaded or accompanying) or to pony up for a full retail MS Office install package.

Note: in UK English spelling, 'license' is the verb, and 'licence' the noun. In US spelling, it's 'license' for both.

a notepad doesn't have a disc drive just usb's

People use different, often overlapping names for the different types of portable computers but generally you have (from biggest to smallest) laptops, notebooks and netbooks. These have keyboards, and you also have 'notepads' or 'tablets' - pocket-sized computers that have an onscreen keyboard and/or a stylus. Some smaller portable computers don't have built in optical (CD/DVD) drives but if there is a USB socket you can plug in an external USB drive. There are many that cost from ten to thirty US dollars or local equivalent. Here is a picture of one.

If you have a valid product key you can download MS Office from Microsoft onto a netbook or other machine without a CD/DVD drive.

Install Office products on your netbook or notebook http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/buy/netbook-FX101850729.aspx

In the event that you need an office suite on your "new" computer and you do not wish to purchase another issue of Microsoft office another alternative to Raptor's suggestion is "Open Office'

Most of it's functions are compatible with Microsoft Office software. truenorthI can't remember if our current laptop came with Office on disc or not, as it's been a few years since we bought it. I assumed we were ALLOWED to put it on at least one other computer for personal use, but didn't know it couldn't be on two portable ones. News to me! I know there are many alternatives to Office (some of which are FREE) but Office is what I'm familiar with, so for the sake of speed (and my own laziness!) that's what I'm after. From what you guys have said it sounds as if buying a version of office along with the new newpad (or whatever we decide) would be the easiest option. Thanks for your info guys! I assumed we were allowed to put it on at least one other computer for personal use, but didn't know it couldn't be on two portable ones. News to me!

Most retail versions of Office allow a single user to install a second copy on a laptop, tablet computer or other portable machine. The second installation is intended to be used by the primary user while travelling, at home or at a satellite office. The terms of the licence make it clear that only the primary user can run the software, and Office itself enforces that requirement. If a second user opens an Office product on your portable machine, it connects to the Internet to check if another licensed copy is running. (This catches out users of pirated product keys) (The EULA says "BY USING THE SOFTWARE, YOU CONSENT TO THE TRANSMISSION OF THIS INFORMATION." in capital letters) If it detects the license code is in use, the application will politely inform the second user and quit. Legitimate use on two machines simultaneously (comparing two versions of a spreadsheet, for example) isn't prohibited by the license, though you will need to turn off network connections on the second computer.

The exception among retail editions is for software marked “Home and Student” edition, where you may install one copy of the software on up to three licensed devices in your household for use by people for whom that is their primary residence.

According to the Microsoft Office EULA, which you can download from the Microsoft Software License Terms (MSLT) for Microsoft Office 2010 page, you can clearly read that you can legally install single-pack Microsoft Office on two computers.

The same applies to earlier versions of Office.

According to sub section c "Portable Device", of section 2 "Instalation and Use Rights": "You may install another copy of the software on a portable device for use by the single primary user of the licensed device”

This was confirmed by a reply tweet on Twitter by Microsoft Australia.

This applies to all Microsoft Office products. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, Outlook, Outlook Social Connector, Publisher , Access, InfoPath, SharePoint Workspace, Project Standard, Visio Premium, Visio Professional, Project Professional, and the Home and Student versions of the following: Excel, OneNote, PowerPoint, Word.

There are however a few caveats:

You have to have bought a legal copy of Microsoft Office, and be the legal user of the license.

You have to be the only user of the license.

You can install Microsoft Office on a desktop and a portable device such as a laptop or notepad. The license terms do not seem to allow you to install on two desktops or two laptops for example.

Both computers, desktop and portable, need to be owned by you. In other words, you cannot install Microsoft office on your laptop and on your friends or families desktop.

The license only applies to Microsoft retail products and not OEM products.

http://www.microsoft.com/About/Legal/EN/US/IntellectualProperty/UseTerms/Default.aspx

Maybe now you can see another reason why people turn to open source alternatives?
Thanks for the info guys. We bought a notebook, which has Wordpad on it. However, we decided against Microsoft Office, as it just seemed like too much hassle. We are probably going to go with Open Office. How compatible is it with Microsoft Office Word for MOVING documents back and forth? There might be a deviation in the mark-up if you create a document in Word and then open it in Writer... I've never had any problems importing Excel files into Calc.

I'd recommend LibreOffice, by the way. http://www.unixmen.com/libreoffice-vs-openoffice/ Quote from: Steve M on March 04, 2012, 05:24:15 AM
but Office is what I'm familiar with, so for the sake of speed (and my own laziness!) that's what I'm after.
It's your choice but you don't need an external USB CD/DVD drive to install Microsoft Office.  Beginning with Office 2007, Microsoft began allowing distribution of the software to buyers via download.  Prior to Office 2007, MS Office was only distributed on disc.

Solve : Looking for a Good backup software for full backup?

Answer»

I am looking for a good Backup Software - for a full backup.
I have 3 that i may decide on
1. Macrium Reflect (FREE/paid)
2. Acronic True Image 2012 (paid)
3. [email protected] (paid)
I am leaning toward Macrium Reflex is that a good backup software
All 3 do a Image backup
I just bought a Seagate Go Flex 1TG External HD. There is software included on external HD, but it doesn't do a full backup.
Seagate HDD's ship with Acronis...
Although Network and NAT imaging and scheduling are all disabled in that version it DOES do full backups...

If Free is an alternative then Macrium is a fine app for your needs.http://clonezilla.org/http://www.todo-backup.com/.   They have a free version and a paid version.  The free version is fine for home users.I used Acronis for years but with the newer versions it GOT way to un-user friendly. I didn't know where or what to click on anymore. I really hated to leave Acronis because i paid for it.  Plus too many of my back up images were coming up no good after verifying with upgraded versions. Lost lots of data. I switch to Paragon. Been using it now for over 2 years. I regularly back up my drives and customer's drives. Not one problem. I would bet my life on Paragon.

Just last month I had to restore two customers HD's from backup images and Paragon CAME through with flying colors.

Here is the free version
http://www.paragon-software.com/home/br-free/download.html

They also have a free partition program. I carry both on my flash drive.Acronis true image is excellent, you will need to buy the full version to gain all the benefits.
How much do you value your data? Seagate HDD’s come with the free version called “DiscWizard” and while it is less functional than a full copy of Acronis, it does work for a full C:/ disc image so will keep your OS intact for re installation. Both also include a boot disc maker.
Personally, I have used Acronis TI and have no complaints. It will log all your back ups and verify them either when made or before use. You can mount the images and select individual files and folders to copy and restore. There are a few good tools in the program and it is very stable. I have the full version and it is worth the money, there are free back up software's, but, well they are free!! Acronis also has the very useful continuous backup facility and the usual choices of differential and incremental. There is a sector by sector option, but this takes more HDD space than an image.
Part of a truly safe back up system is the use of RAID, this can be a costly option in both striping and mirroring with the additional hard drives required. The answer to your question is based on value of data, for simple back ups software gives reasonable protection on its own, RAID volumes do enhance this.
WBAdmin in later version of Windows is amazing.  ONLINE creation of system images.  Super fast.  We use it to take "clone" images of our Windows 2008 servers, without needing to shut them down.  Takes about 30 minutes per server.Norton GhostHey! The OP said:

I believe the Seagate Go Flex drives come with software on them and it automatically installs on a computer the first time the drive is connected to a computer.  This software is for file backup, not a full drive image.

Solve : Symbolic link for Windows??

Answer»

As far as I know, Windows doesn't have such a thing inherently but is there any software / utility that would enable me to create symbolic links in Windows?

My C drive is currently almost full on my Windows 7 and it's a PAIN to clean it. I tried many ways but failed to do it efficiently. They either didn't help much or the drive was filled up again within a few weeks - my C drive is a solid state disk and you know it's small.

I'm wondering if I can create symbolic links in Windows so as to move monster folders from C drive to other drives that are on SATA disk which are much much more spacious? You get the idea. Just leave the symbolic links in C drive but move the actual content to other drives...

OTHERWISE I'd have to buy a larger solid state disk to REPLACE my current ONE. It costs money and time.

Thanks for your help! You can use the MKLINK command line utility, included in Win7. This needs to be run in an elevated console. Type MKLINK /? for the syntax. Thanks oldun! This is so nice of Windows. Never knew that. I'll give it a try and let you know.

So say if I want to completely move C:\mydir to E:\mydir, I would:

1. Copy C:\mydir to E:\mydir
2. Open CMD command line window and go to C:\
3. "mklink /H C:\mydir E:\mydir"

Is this correct?I don't believe that you can create a link to an existing file or directory. You would therefore need to create the link before placing files in the link location.
There are numerous examples of using MKLINK on the web. This is just one of them:
http://ipggi.wordpress.com/2009/09/07/windows-file-junctions-symbolic-links-and-hard-links/
Or you could use the JUNCTION utility from SysInternals.

Solve : Cannot get Mouse Keys to work on hp laptop?

Answer»

I have enabled them in the ease of access centre and the icon SHOWS up in the taskbar  but i cannot get them to work.

(I THINK they are meant to work on the top row of numbers on a laptop instead of on a numeric keypad, if not please tell me)

But all of my keys work as normal. The Fn key makes no difference to this.

Laptop: HP G62-b30SA, Win 7.

Any ideas how to get them working ? Check if you have press Function and NUMLOCK(Fn + NumLk) to TURN on. I think its the numeric keypad. The ease of access center will tell you if its numeric or top when you turn on mouse keys. Adjust pointer speed and ACCELERATION to max when enabling this feature.

I hope this is the right place for this question.  I am running Vista Home Basic and have a HP Deskjet F340 printer.  When I press the scan button nothing happens.  The manual says that the HP Photosmart Software must be installed and running.  I have HP Photosmart Essential listed twice in the "All Programs" list.  I assume this is the same as HP Photosmart Software.  I can not figure out how to make sure it is running.  The manual also says to make sure that the HP Digital Imaging Monitor icon is in the Windows system tray.  It is.  In fact there are two of them.
What I have tried.  I tried to delete all HP programs but could not.  I then reinstalled the HP printer programs and that seemed to work.  However, At the last step I got a pop down panel which said:
     TrayApp
The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable.

Click OK to try again, or enter an alternate path to a folder containing the installation package "TrayApp.msi" in
     the box below.

Since I am not on a network, I clicked on "Cancel".
Any help will be appreciated.    Bob

Thanks for your reply.  I am not very smart about computers so the answer did not help me.  I could not follow the instructions as I could not get the correct things to come up on my computer.  I will just forget trying to scan anything.  I have had this computer for 5 years and I have never needed to scan anything so I guess I have not missed much.  Thanks again.  BobI think you should remove all HP printer software and reinstall from the CD ...Bobh,

You're welcome.  Raptor is correct, by the way.  Instructions for HP's software program removal were also included in that link I sent you toward the bottom of the page.

However, you stated...and I quote:

I went to "start" then to "control Panel" then to "Programs and Features" which I opened.  This gave me a "Uninstall or change a program" page.   The first program listed for HP was "HP Customer Participation program 8.0". When I tried to delete it nothing happened.  Seems like HP was forcing me to PARTICIPATE wheather I WANTED to or not.  Since I could not get rid of the first one I did not try any other HP program.
I tried to use HP's forum, which was hard to use, but never got an answer.
Thanks for your interest in my problem.    Bob GlitchPC -

HP makes reliable equipment but horrible software.

It could be that the uninstall tool is simply too outdated. Try REVO uninstaller to get rid of REMAINING programs.Raptor -

I thank you both for your efforts, however I am going to abandon this project.  I got the HP installed (REVO worked good) and reinstalled.  Now the HP Digital Imaging Monitor will not come up even though I have it checked for a starting program.  It did it before and I don't know why it doesn't do it now.  With all your time and my hassle it just is not worth going forward.
Thanks again.  We will CALL it done.    BobDid you install all the software that came with the printer? The Photosmart Essentials is pretty much optional, it's the maintenance panel and scanning driver/software (or whatever they call it) that reacts to the scan button.

Solve : Converting MP4 files to WMA??

Answer»

I have an old MP4 video file from YEARS ago that I want to play in Windows Media (or anything similar that will play, really).

I've SEEN a few conversion TOOLS ONLINE, but, everything seems "shady" to me, personally, when I Google them - being a rookie at this, I thought I'd ask the pros!

Thanks for any help! For one thing, Windows Media Player just does not play everything. In fact a lot of things do not play on the WMP. No matter how hard your try.

Have you tried other media players?

Here is just one of many free media players.
http://download.cnet.com/GOM-Media-Player/3000-13632_4-10551786.html
I have used this for years. Converts about anything. Quick Media Converterhttp://www.videolan.org/vlc/features.html

Free, open source and completely safe. Superior to Windows Media Player and any other player out there that I've used.
Plays MP4. Windows media player can play mp4s. If you can't play it, you may just need to get the codec. Try the K-lite codec pack. http://www.filehippo.com/download_klite_codec_pack/

For converting files, try Format FACTORY. It's free. Try TotalVideoConverter. It will do the JOB easily.

Solve : Windows 7 64bit - Programs won't update??

Answer»

Recently, I noticed that the same programs (NIGHTLY and Utorrent) ask for the same update over and over again, for example
I get a message for Nightly about anew version, I approve, also I give PERMISSION to connect this program to the internet or whatever crap windows tells me to do, and the next time I turn on my PC, it's the same process all over again. like I didn't update at all.
My windows Firewall is off btw.
I guess this will happen now with any program wanting to update..

can anyone help me SOLVE this? I'm a noob at this stuff. You could always go to the program's website and download and install the latest version...Yes, but there might be a problem with my PC.. so I'm worried uTorrent does the same to me. No idea why it keeps happening. Too lazy to check for the reason. For Firefox/Nightly/Minefield/etc, if you install more than one (say, Nightly and "standard" firefox they will overwrite each others settings. So when you start Firefox it will see that the last version to start was nightly, and was later than it's version, go "ok, good, I don't have to check for UPDATES". Then it will save it's version. When you start nightly, it sees the older version and goes "ah! they must have just installed me, so I better check for an update!" And it goes about the update check.

Don't know about uTorrent though. I myself disabled uTorrent's updating for reasons I've forgotten but am not curious to remember.

Solve : Installing Program On New Computer?

Unless the virus and spyware scanner insist on you having an internet connection to activate the product, there should be no problems.I don't recommend doing installations in the kitchen.
High risk of the mayonnaise-on-the-keyboard syndrome.

Avira Free and AVG are two examples of free antivirus systems that have a higher proactive and reactive detection rate than WinDefender. But I don't know how easy or convenient it would be to DEPLOY such programs on a large scale...I'm not a fan. I always found Defender to be a resource hog and not as good as MalwareBytes or SUPER ANTISPYWARE.

Right.  It's not there because it is the version that came with Windows when your computer was new.  It is not a program that GETS installed after Windows is installed.  THEREFORE, it does not appear in Features and Programs.

When he SAID, "I don't want both versons", I believe he means he does not want to see two versions of IE on his Programs menu and anywhere else.  And, this is the case; he would only see IE9.

IE8 will still be there only in the sense that it would reappear if IE9 is uninstalled.  Well that's kinda what i meant...

Solve : Cardminder Export Options and Outlook import options.?

Answer»

Hello I am currently using cardminder for a user working here and  I want to export to Outlook but I dont want the data in the default Contacts folder, I want the data in a special Contacts folder.  I am not sure if outlook has its own IMPORT options or if its a setting in Cardminder. If anyone knows Cardminder really well pleaselet me know if there are other options hidden somewhere or if it is something I have to configure in outlook. I TRIED moving the folders in outlook up, making new folders and what not but it is sitll the same. It keeps exporting to that default Contacts folder.

Can you export Cardminder contacts to a CSV (Coma SEPARATED Values) file, or some other common file format?  I believe that should be the FIRST step.  Then, create a folder in Outlook; this would be a sub-folder under Contacts.  Then, import the file you exported from Cardminder into the special folder in Outlook.

PLEASE your version Outlook in your next reply.

Solve : Sequence of images to video??

Answer»

Pretty much read the title.

I made a sequence of 300+ PNGs with Google SketchUp and the great PLUGIN SketchyPhysics.
I want to convert it to an AVI or WMV format video so I can edit it with Movie Maker.

I have spent hours upon hours Googling, downloaded and uninstalled several programs due to errors, horrible quality, and other problems.

Does anyone have any idea how I can convert my animation to a decent video format?http://support.google.com/sketchup/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=114335

You can also use VirtualDub to take the PNGs you already have and turn them into a movie
http://www.cmiss.org/cmgui/wiki/CreatingAnAVIFromASeriesOfImagesWindows  That doesn't work with SketchyPhysics, a plugin.
However, I will try VirtualDub and get back to you if it works. Thanks. The time to edit is past, so I have to make a new post.

It works great, except for one thing:
The image was slanted 45 degrees, looking totally weird.
I would post a screenshot (believe me, I tried), but my computer is being very moronic today and doesn't like me.

...sometimes my computer SCARES me.

...or maybe it's tinypic that is omitting part of the image.

I'm USING my old computer today, maybe when I'm on my better one tomorrow I can get it to work.

I'm so JEALOUS of computers! They don't have ANYTHING to be stressed about, so they get to make other people (like me) stressed all day!http://forum.doom9.org/archive/index.php/t-11723.html

Solve : how to record desktop?

Answer»

hi there, can anyone help me how to record session in my computer? or any software can recommend me to use to record.
for example im watching video or movies in my computer and i want to record it with sound to play it again later.. The most piratical way is to use an eternal VCR device.
A software only solution n requires lots of CPU power. Unless you are wiling to accept a low-quality recording.
Withe a DESKTOP computer you can install a hard ware device to CAPTURE video. But the good ones a pricy. For the same money you can buy a VCR. About $200.
The best free solution I'd recommend is http://camstudio.org/ it does decent quality and isn't too resource intensive. As FAR as recording a whole video I'm not sure how a 2hr movie would handle since this program is saving to an AVI FILE. Usually, there are better ways of saving a video though instead of copying what's being shown on your desktop to a video. Of course you need to also remember copyright laws, if you're copying a full copyrighted video regardless of how you do it, it's considered illegal. If you are referring to capturing a video stream from the Internet there is software out there that can do that but like our Forum admin said that would be illegal depending on the circumstance.
http://www.erightsoft.com/SUPER.htmlWith the right video card, you can output to a really nice video recorder, either DVD, VHS or both.

I just bought a nice Toshiba, VHS/DVD COMBO drive from "ComputerGeeks.com" for less than $120.
Besides being able to record TV programs to either VHS Tape or DVD disks, I can also copy my old VHS tapes
to DVD's for permanent storage.  (tape gets brittle with age,, while DVD's will last a lot longer)

Many inexpensive video cards have composite video or 'S-Video' outputs.  If S-Video is used, you'll also
have to patch the audio output to your recorder, as S-Video has no sound component to it.

I plan on doing some PC recording to my old Toshiba DVD recorder.  It's much more practical than trying to
record a program from the internet internally as a video file.  DVD recorders are meant for that, and PC's
are not.  Once I've recorded a program from my PC to a DVD, I can then play back the DVD on my big TV.

Cheers Mates!

I've had VLC for years and GOM Player for a shorter time, and up till now I've preferred GOM Player but the gap has been narrowing with every new VLC release. Maybe this will be the one that tips me over the edge... What I have always liked about VLC is its built-in-codecs feature, and how it plays many files other players refuse.

I also use both VLC and GOM (with GOM as the default)Some of the fancy video tricks are a bit unfinished... I locked it up trying the "video wall" feature, so that I had to kill it in Task Manager.
Thanks for the suggestion Allan. As VLC has been my almost exclusive video media player i am looking forward to giving this new version a ROAD test. Also appreciate that when selecting to install the new version detected the presence of the older version and removed it as a part of the process of the upgrade.truenorthYes, uninstalling the previous version has always been part of the VLC installer. The fact that nit can handle GPT is very important for Vista and Windows 7 users. Other programs have had a hard time making a 'clone' of a Vista or Windows 7 system disk because of how Microsoft now USES GPT . That one feature is enough reason to download Todo Backup from EaseUS .

Solve : iso to dvd?

Answer»

I downloaded Windows Server 2008 from the MSDN website for school. It is an ISO file which I use CD burner XP to burn it to a DVD. When I try to install the software I get an error message that are missing files. My instructor said I need to burn it at a LOWER speed. I don't have any options for the burn speed. Is there better software to burn an ISO file at a lower speed?I never heard of any such thing. Either the image burns or it doesn't. Try using this app to burn: http://www.freeisoburner.com/A higher writing speed will result in a faster disc burn, but the optical quality may be lower (less reflective). If the reflectivity is too low to be accurately read when the CD or DVD is played back, the error rate may be too high for the reading drive to correct. With an audio disk this can result in unwanted effects: e.g. clicks and squealing sounds. With a video DVD there could be image breakup or freezing. However with a data disk every BIT matters and the result can be an unusable disk. The usual advice is "For optimal results burn at the media's rated speed.". Personally even though my DVD burner is rated at 16x I burn stuff that matters at 8x.

Quote

I don't have any options for the burn speed.

See the drop down? (Burn options: advanced settings, taken from CD Burner XP website)

The CD burner XP I have didn't have an option to select a slower speed. I downloaded the free one suggested by Alan. I selected the SLOWEST speed. I didn't have any missing file this time. Thanks to everyone who helped me.I have been a big fan of ISO Recorder when it was released years ago for XP.  Still use it today on Windows 7 even though it has the capability to burn ISO files now.I've spent the price of a NEW car, keeping my "Nero Burning ROM" updated for the past decade or more, but for sheer simplicity in burning or making ISO's, it's hard to beat "Img-Burn".  (and it's FREE)

Folks that offer "Img-Burn" are constantly trying to have the best PRODUCT out there and updates come at regular intervals.
So I advise anyone using it...... keep it updated.

Oh, by the way, old saying, "a slower burn is a better burn".  I learned that years ago from a professional CD maker and I never try to burn any disk at top speed...... 8X is about tops for me.

Cheers mates!

Solve : alphabetizing bookmarks?

Answer»
i found the perfect way to alphabetize my bookmarks on firefox....   CTRL+B   to get the bookmark sideber,  then menu, then sort by name.     i've done this before and now i can't.   ctrl + b gets me no sidebar, no menu.   it seems like the sidebar was a little window that opened in the top left corner of the screen.   is that right?   what do i need to open/do first?   boy,  being this danged old is the pits.   help, please.Sort by Name also appears in the CONTEXT menu if you "right click" WITHIN Bookmarks.thank you allan.
i worked on it and figured out a way.     i opened bookmarks > show all bookmarks > bookmarks menu >  sort by name.    yippeee!
but your way seems much easier.   i'll probably do it your way in the futureNo problem - there are often several ways to accomplish what you want.I thanked you Allen, too.

I opened bookmarks and put my cursor arrow at the very top of the dropdown bookmarks menu and right clicked and there it was, "Sort by name".
That SURE makes finding something a lot easier.

I can still click on a PARTICULAR bookmark and drag it to the top of the list if I want.

Most of the shortcuts I use every day, I have in a folder on my desktop.

Thanks again

Solve : How to uninstall compiz in ubuntu 10.04?

Guys i've installed compiz on my ubuntu 10.04 ... Then i've uninstalled it from ubuntu software centre.. but even after uninstalling it i can see the effects.. how can i completely uninstall the compiz.......
If you don't like compiz, why did you install it?
If your intent was to just TEST it, you should had done the test after a b backup.
Alternately, you could have started a new INSTANCE of Ubuntu as a 'Live' CD and tested it there.
You should UNDERSTAND the utility you are testing modifies Gnome. You need to go back to Gnome classic.

Solve : JAVA!!?

Answer»

ok i was using java and as many before me it started eating my cpu... i tied everything i could think of and everything forums tell me to do including UN-installing and re-installing again repeatedly i use c.cleaner regularly and also have revo uninstaller... i havn't got a clue whats making it max out my and have no traces of java on my pc before i try to re-install.    one DAY it was fine the next it was crap... and just to add FFS java is the only progrm that i have heared of that does the job it does and yet so many ppl have problems with it using too much cpu sort it out.

please help and please don't post you got the same thing cuz it's help i want not knowing more ppl have tht problemI took the liberty of removing a DOZEN of your exclamation points...

CARRY on...Hi Dazon,
The problem may not be with Java... it sounds like you're overclocking. What make is your computer system, what is it's age, what OS are you currently using, what version of Java did you grab from Open Source, and what development environment (compiler, builder, and runtime environment) are you using? If you have an older computer, you may lack space on your HD or enough RAM. If using a tower, you can easily add CPU and RAM, but they need to be added together to speed up your computer, ADDING one without the other will not do much of anything- make sure that you are grounded during repairs, don't bend the pins on the CPU, and careful doing anything with the BIOS. You could also add a new magnetic HD. Disk space also helps. I prefer Netbeans over Eclipse and build in Java 7. I have a Mac IOS Lion 10.7.2, but through my Virtual Box, can also access GNU/Linux, Solaris, Ubantu, Unix, and Microsoft- sounds like you may have Microsoft, and are using Textpad- which is a large, inflexible, CPU eating, proprietary OS that lacks scalability. If your time and date are also wonky, check your battery. Increased voltage in CPUs increases heat in the unit. If using a laptop try buying a stand to keep it cool and elevated. If you have a tower, make sure that the back is not against the wall, and the front is not blocked or obstructed by books or other things on your desk. Fans and proper ventilation keep computers cool. If your computer is freezing up, it is probably due to your CPU being overheated because you are over clocking. Wow... What?!

OP (dazon): What do you mean by "I was using Java"?  What exactly were you doing?  For the record, Java is not a program, it's a programming language.  Possibly you're referring to the Java Virtual Machine that runs within a browser, but until you're more specific, it's going to be hard to assist.ok i'm not sure exactly how my computer is but i bought it from ebay about 2-3 years ago (all i know is that the person who sold it t me builds computers and sells them himself) i'm using a tower, i have windows xp professional 2002 sp3, Intel Pentium 4, CPU 2.8GHz, 2.00GB ram. the reason i say it's jave is because everything else runs fine except java, either in a browser or when running games from my desktop (right now my cpu is running between 0 & i was using java 6 but since it started playing me up i have tried to use java7 and even got a java 5.22 and stopped updates. My pc is well ventilated and since i assumed it might have been over heating i even took the liberty of taking the side panel of and putting my wall fan at the side of it to see if that made a difference. I have recently noticed that when java starts it uses 111,000k mem (approx) & 70-95 CPU then jumps to 310,000k mem (approx) & 90-99 CPU but doesn't got below 97 CPU after reaching it's peak.   Am sorry but I don't actually know what OS is   What protection apps do you have installed and when was the last time you updated and ran them ? ?I use AVG free.. always have, since the problems it was suggested that i download ''super anti-virus free and malwarebytes which i have done.. they found only cookies on my slave HD which have been removed. Can you post the process ID of java shown in task manager being mentioned? No I don't have a printer scanner or anything like that... the only thing i have that didn't come with my pc is linksys wireless adapter and my graphics card (ATI RADEON 9800XT) also i got this graphics card 2 days after it all started had ATI RADEON 9250 before that.Well you have 2 choices...turn off javaw.exe in services.msc and test to see if Java still works in your webpages ...or

Completely un-install all previous versions of Java using the uninstaller at their site and DLoad and install the latest version.

Solve : "re-enabling" monitor speakers?

Answer»

Hi hope this is in the right area.  I have an Hp 447 with amd PHENOM II x6 and an HP 2710 MONITOR running windows7 and real tek HD audio manager.  I "disabled" the monitor speakers driver wich the monitor defaluts to when plugged into HDMI from my EVGA GTX560Ti graphics card to get the desktop speakers to work off the rear speaker jack.  The DESK speakers are working fine as well as my front microphone jack.    Now I can't find the driver I disabled to re-enable my monitor speakers..  Any suggestions on where I can find this it doesn't show on te real tek audio manager or anywhere else I have looked I WOULD just like to have the option of using the monitor or the desk speakers while connected to hdmi without it becoming a major project.  Thanks! Quote

I "disabled" the monitor speakers driver
Disabling does not mean removing the driver, does it?  I would think this is a matter of enabling the monitor speakers somewhere in software settings or just reverse the procedure you followed to DISABLE them.

Solve : Microsoft Office 2010 product activation code?

Answer»

Hi,

I had Microsoft Office 2010 installed onto my laptop when I was working for a Company 2 years ago.
I have now left this Company and for some reason it is now telling me that the product activation code is invalid.
How can I find the activation code (I am not able to contact the Company anymore).
I do have the same version running on a desktop.
Is it possible to extract the code from this version?
If not then how can I find an activation code?

Many Thanks

David Quote

for some reason it is now telling me that the product activation code is invalid.

The "some reason" is probably that since you no longer work for the company, you are no longer entitled to use the SOFTWARE under the company's license.

If this is a properly licensed version that you are legally entitled to run, and which has a license allowing installation on a FIXED and a portable computer, then you can type "Find the Microsoft Office 2010 Product Key Code" into a search engine to see various Microsoft Office product key finders. I do not know if any of them work.

I've heard there is a way of extracting it from the valid version but not sure how. Quote from: dgreen on February 15, 2012, 11:42:20 AM

Solve : Adapter light goes off when I connect it to the laptop?

Answer»

It seems that there is some issue with the motherboard of my Dell INSPIRON 1520 , when I connect the power adapter to it , the Led light goes off and it never turns on

tried power RESET , reset the rams

Any SUGGESTION would be very helpfull !!!Why do you think it is the motherboard?
What else happens?
Does it work on battery?
If it it does not work on battery only, consider this suggestio.: Some Dell models will work without the battery. Mine will. If your laptop works normally with the power adapter on but the battery removed, then the battery is failing or is dead.Is this a REPLACEMENT adapter ? ?

Solve : Problem reinstalling Acrobat 9.0?

Answer»

The Acrobat 9.0 did not work after I remove/uninstall some of the components that was previously installed with the Adobe CS4.
Every time I launch Acrobat, it runs the Windows Installer instead, and end up with an error:

Error 1402. Could not open key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run\OptionalComponent\MSFS.
Verify that you have sufficient access to that key, or contact your support personnel.

I try to uninstall it (from Add/Remove Program, and also launch the installation CD), but it ends up with error and is terminated.

This is one of the problems with Suite styles of software apps....when one component is removed for whatever reason other components may not run properly.
Many times removing it will leave behind remnants that will not cooperate with a re-install of that component such as dead end registry entries which it sounds like above...
You could try Revo uninstaller on the Acrobat component to SEE if it'll clean it out enough so it works....barring that you're probably looking at a complete re-install of the Adobe Suite PACKAGE...Hi Patio.

Acrobat 9.0 is not listed in Revo Uninstaller Pro.

Before this I've tried Perfect Uninstaller v6.3.3.9 but the free trial version won't complete the uninstallation unless registered.

I've also tried the Uninstall Tool by CrystalIDEA but it ended up at the same registry error.
Then my last option is what you may have to do...I've tried that. I'm able to uninstall all other component, left only the *censored* Acrobat.
I've also used the Adobe Creative Suite Cleaner Tool from Adobe itself to clean any possible leftover.

Problem is, when I insert the disc and start the suite installation, the Acrobat component is greyed out i.e. it's identified as installed  How did you do the uninstall ? ?
I believe it has it's own uninstaller from the Start.Programs menu...I run the setup from the disc, it lets me choose which component to uninstall, so I select all (included Acrobat), but at the end I get error uninstalling Acrobat.

There is no individual uninstaller for each component. Is it safe if I just delete all Acrobat related folder and also registry entries, and try to reinstall?

I'm afraid it may mess up things further.Use the CS4 uninstaller from the Programs menu as suggested...
Then re-boot and re-install CS4..There is no uninstaller from the Program menu.
I can only uninstall it from Control Panel or run the disk, which the result has been mentioned above. Now I try to install a trial version of Acrobat X DOWNLOADED from Adobe, and it also get stuck at the same point (no access permission to the above registry key)Adobe CS4 Forums

Seems there are  some similar issues there... Quote from: patio on February 03, 2012, 05:59:19 AM

Solve : Repetitive Web Page Clicks?

Answer»

Is there any software, PREFERABLY freeware, that can capture browser clicks and capture the data from a particular page?I'm guessing that, by "capture browser clicks", you mean automatically open all hyperlinks on any given page to other pages.  Is that right?  And, by "capture the data from a particular page", do you mean save the whole page or some portion of the content on a page?  If the latter, then how would any such software know what part of a page you would want it to capture?

I'm wondering, what is your objective here?  Can you shed some light on that? Quote from: et_phonehome_2 on February 13, 2012, 06:10:33 AM

Is there any software, preferably freeware, that can capture browser clicks and capture the data from a particular page?
What is your OS?? If you have W7, go to search, type PSR. ,click on PSR, a small pop up will appear. Click START recording. EVERY thing you do after that will be RECORDED. It will then go to a zip file. You can open it and view every  thing. You can even view it as a slide show!
It's a really cool feature of W7. Quote from: garybear on February 13, 2012, 10:44:02 AM

I tested it.  It creates images of web pages viewed but does not capture data.  So, I'm sure it will not serve the purpose desired by et_phonehome_2.  Unfortunately, I am still using XP.  By going to a particular page, I mean that I always want to go to a certain page that I have traversed to which I want the software to capture, and then from there I can probably write something to capture the data on that page for processing.

Its similar to those software that can capture keystrokes to simulate users entering data for a load test...Is this always the same page?  How often is a capture desired?

Perhaps this would be USEFUL: Assign macro or function to keys on your keyboard
