Solve : 'Left over' files from EASEUS?

Before   I started using a 'new' (second hand, inherited) computer, I decided to   make a COPY of the hard disk.  I used EASEUS disk copy v2.3.1 on this   PC to burn the program to a CD, using the built-in (comes with the exe   file) making a bootable CD.  Then I booted from that CD and made  a   sector level copy of the HD, which seemed to work ok.

I am left   with a shortcut on my desktop to the easeus website (easily removed),   and, searching for easeus on my original HD, I found 2 other files:
EASEUS Backup Tool  Last modified 8/1/2012   176 bytes C\Users\...\Desktop
EASEUS Backup Tool  Last modified 3/23/2011 111 bytes C\Users\...\AppData\Local\Temp
EASEUSLD.LDR          Last modified 1/19/2011 190 KB     C\Users\...\Desktop

Presumably   I can delete these in the normal way, but how do I find out what other   unwanted stuff has been left on my HD ?  Can I delete these files in the   normal way, or was some KIND of installation process DONE integrating   parts of EASEUS software inextricably into my PC ?
Does anyone know ?

I never installed EASEUS (went through an obvious install process), it does not ask you to install it.  So I never uninstalled it.

I've still got the CD (see below). I downloaded a .zip file, this unzipped to an .exe file to my USB flash/pen drive. I ran the .exe file from the USB pen drive to create the boot disk (CD), a bootable CD also containing the EASEUS siskcopy program.

I turned my PC off and booted up from the CD having switched the boot order to CD first (there was an option in the .exe to reboot straight from that from that program, which would probably have made that step unnecessary, but I wasn't ready).  After rebooting from the CD] (power up in my case) then you're straight into EASEUS diskcopy, and selecting source, destination, copy method (eg sector by sector). I then copied for 6 hrs without any errors SURPRISINGLY, when I finished (I don't remember the details, but) I think the options were to boot from HD, copy more, or power down. I chose the latest, removed the CD, powered up, reset the boot order, and carried on as normal.  The next day I noticed the link to EASEUS (website to upgrade) as shortcut on my desktop (I don't know exactly when [at what stage in the process] this link on my desktop appeared), then I searched for 'EASEUS' and found those three, and wondered what else it had left behind to clog up my new(ish) system.

You will notice that two of the files I found are in a directory named Temp, but when does Windows clear the Temp directories ? It isn't when you delete eveything from Internet Options > Delete. At no time during the whole process was I connected to the internet except downloadig the zip file.

That method of running it makes it OS independent apparently.

Thanks Allan.  That's news to me.  So it's safe to delete from the system created Temp files ?   On my other PC (XP PRESARIO S5160UK) I've got loads of them.

HP Pavilion dm4 1050ea - Windows 7Yes, you can delete any and all files in the temp folders. The only caveat is that if you've installed new software you should first reboot (some installers place files in the temp folder and complete installation on the next boot).

Solve : error in French when try to close Guitar Pro5?

HI, whenver i click the close button of any Guitar pro file it shows a pop window with an error in FRENCH

Solve : Unwanted capital letters on new line of text?

Whenever I am typing a text, the first letter of the first word on the next line is automatically capitalized.  How to prevent this plse?

Use Word pad instead.
    On the Tools menu, click AutoCorrect.
    On the AutoCorrect tab, uncheck the Capitalize first letter of sentences check box.

I don't think it's a question of new sentences; they start after a period. Guzeppi SEEMS to be saying that unwanted and incorrect capital letters are appearing at the start of each new line. I wonder if he is used to typewriters where you have to press the Return KEY to move down to a new line. If you start a new line in Word by pressing Enter, Word thinks you are making a list, or starting a new paragraph, and (correctly) capitalizes the first letter of whatever you type on the new line. If this is so, Guzeppi, you just have to remember that in word processing you don't have to do anything when you are nearing the end of a line, you just CARRY on typing and Word will move down to the next line when it decides that what you have just typed won't fit on the line. You press Enter (twice) to start a new paragraph or once if you are typing something like a list or address.


Depends on the version of Word, but if it's a fairly RECENT version and you hold your cursor over that auto-capitalized letter, you'll get a little menu below it (see attached image). Here, you have 3 options:

1. Undo Automatic Capitalization: This will undo this one instance of capitalization, but further similar actions will be auto-corrected.

2. Stop Auto-capitalizating First Letter of Sentences: This will stop the auto-capitalization behavior for the entire document. It will not do it again until you re-enable the option.

3. Control AutoCorrect Options...: This takes you to all the auto-correct options.

This same procedure works with any auto-correct function.

Solve : activex version not installed?

I hope I'm posting to the right FORUM.  I've installed  the latest version of Adobe Flasher Player from Adobe's site, and it appeared to install OK, but when I go to Control Panel>Flash Player>Advanced tab:

Activex version:  not installed
Plug-in version:  11.3.300.268

After Flash Player installed, it loaded an Adobe webpage indicating that Flash Player installed successfully.

Why is Activex version not installed, and how do I go about installing it?  When I click on the "Check Now" button, it loads an Adobe page indicating that I have the latest version installed (11.30.300.268)

Thanks in advance.  Any help is greatly appreciated. What OS ? ?
Have you done any Windows Updates on it ? ?Sorry patio.  I knew I'm supposed to give more info so you guys know what you're dealing with.

After LAST System Recovery, the Activex version was the same as Activex Plug-in version, but, now, for some reason, I can't seem to get the Activex version to appear in the Flash Player applet Advanced tab as before.  I
use Freecorder (don't have it installed as of yet because Applian says to make sure the Activex version is updated).

Hope this clears up some of the muddy water in this situation.This May Be of Help...Hmmmmmm--thanks for the link patio, but the 1st sentence "You are seeing the effects of a hijackware infection"--on a FRESH DESTRUCTIVE System Recovery???  I'm finding THAT hard to swallow.  lol

BTW, I ran Hijack This, along with all the other scanners mentioned above, plus Trenmicro Housecall, and the machine is clean.Good evening emptypockets62426

If I can give my 2 cents.

      If you still have a flash issue go to http://www.softwarepatch.com/internet/shockwave.html#.UBxwfVLx90I then when you are at the web page scroll 3/4's down the page and look on the LEFT for the download then there is a plus to this and that it is a complete stand alone installer and the version is 11.5.9.615 that fixes a lot of flash issue's. I "TOTALLY" trust the site I have been getting complete installer packages for years from there web site. Just leave the old "Flash alone" and use the installer to go over / update the one you have installed.

I found a standalone installer of Adobe Flash Payer (don't remember what ver. it was now, but it was older than what I had currently installed), installed it and rebooted.

Then I went to Adobe page, downloaded and installed the latest ver. and rebooted again.

Got back into Win XP, went to Control Panel, opened Flash Player applet>Advanced Tab and, lo and behold, Activex Version is now installed (finally)!!!.  Ver. 11.3.300.268
Activex Plug-in Version was upgraded to Ver. 11.3.300.270

This a.m. I'm ckg. this thread to see if anyone had any suggestions and found yours.  I think I did last night what you basically suggested that I muddled through on my own.

BTW, I changed the subject line to SOLVED.  Is that the right way to do this when the prob. is resolved?

Solve : e-mail in Goldmine is slow?

Good morning all

At one of my sites here is the equipment and OS's

(1) Dell PE server running server 2003 Sm Biz (in domain) Goldmine is installed in server and all PC's map to the 2 folders in goldmine
(3) Custom desktops all with 2.5Ghz cpu and 1.5 gig ram All have XP pro (all joined to domain)
(2)IBM laptops 2.5Ghz 2 gig ram both have XP pro and hard drives are encrypted(only laptops are encrypted). (1 in domain) (1 in workgroup boss's so the boss can take it back and forth from work to home his choice not mine )

     This software is there CRM so all contacts email etc is thru this program

But my question is this the boss and all people that use it are complaining that the email was slow (deleting, accessing customer dir, moving from folder to folder etc) This has been like this no matter what AV suite is used (so far Norton Ent, Avast Pro and now Vipre Premium). But no one is getting ANY errors either in windows or in the program it self.

So far this is what has been done

All desktops but the boss's has had a fresh install & makes no difference on the speed of goldmine, Both laptops have had a fresh install too with same results goldmine is no faster on them either. IF one person is using goldmine it runs like bang, bang the more people sign in to use it that when they say it slows up.

Windows firewall is off (not needed because Vipre has the firewall) all exceptions for goldmine have been added.
Malwarebytes is scanned on a reg bases nothing found.
Trendmicro online scanner on all systems same result nothing found.
Vipre scans everyday and besides cookies nothing is found.
Ran the un-install UT for all the old AV suites and manually edit the registry also. 
All patch cables tested, all drops tested all came out good but one (changed that one)
Site has roadrunner business class with a static IP (coming in) and I had RR on site for testing cable modem and there cables all was good but I did a hard reset on the cable modem just to be safe and input the static info back into there cable modem. All PC's in house are DHCP only the printers are static his business packet is for 7mb down and 768 out

They were getting dropped packets so I got
New commercial wireless grade 4 port sysco router set WPA2 (nothing has an issue wired or wireless wise) <1mil sec ping inhouse
New Commercial grade 24 port switch (UN-managed) just a switch
MSCONFIG and shut off all non-essential items.
All writes / permissions are set and have been for a long time (no new employee's)
Check event viewer no errors tied to goldmine
The two main folders on the server for goldmine (that EVERYONE is mapped too) both are about 15 to 20 gigs each, yes the data folders are that big.
His lic has expired and to renew is about 12k I have tried to convince him to switch to outlook but he doesn't what to he likes the goldmine program and so don't the users. But he wants it fixed

I know like with outlook if the pst's get over 1 gig or so outlook will get grumpy / errors / corruption etc is it the same with goldmine and is there a way to compact them or do something with the folders I think they may be to big and that is slowing it down for them but I am not 100% SURE I am at a loss for the reason I am not that familiar with all the in's and out's of goldmine HOPEFULLY some of you are

I have spent countless hours working on this with some success that was when I changed the switch and router. Before the hardware was changed he was right if you would highlight a email and click delete it would be 1-3 min before you could do anything else in the program and now after the switch it is down to 10 -30 sec if you do the same thing. I was ya that was it and he is STILL not convinced it is as fast as he thinks it should be  
       


Where I am it is almost 2:45am and I have to get up in the am.

That's $12K to renew the license for Goldmine, right?  I know nothing about Goldmine but, for that license fee, I'd expect some very good tech support.  Seems to me that's the avenue you should be seeking more aggressively and you should not have to spend all that time you've been spending trying to resolve this internally because it really may be an issue with Goldmine's software rather the hardware and network within your office.  Good afternoon soybean


   Yes all there email, contacts, calendar, customer data base etc is handled by and through goldmine that is on the server this is there CRM software. This is a financial location if that helps.

    But most of the time they are mainly in the email so that is why most likely why they think it is just the email issue and not any other sections of goldmine. So let's say if a client emails them say a signed contract they have to take that email & attachment and put into another section of goldmine (customer data base)

    And yes he told me that if he wants any tech support (thru goldmine and for there software), updates to the software, patches etc he would have to pay almost $12,000.00 for all new lic / seats for a newer version of the software for the server and all user's & PC's that access and use it. Because like I said his lic has since expired. 

   He still is able to use the software and keep everything the way it is and has been for years but not to long ago the lic expired. They just can't get any help / tech support with out renewing the subscription and lic etc for all users and equipment that have access to it. But if anything happens to the data base it can not be re-installed / set-up because when I tried to re-install it (trial run and test for installing goldmine) it gives a goldmine access error's on the PC (not a write / permission issue it is just that it can not be re-installed because the lic has expired) and also get user errors trying to access it if that makes since hopefully it does.

   The way goldmine works is when it is installed on a users PC the only thing that is set up on the users pc is the lic is put into the users profile and the drives for goldmine are mapped automatically but all the software / data base stay's on the server.   

   So I am assuming that it goes online only during the install of goldmine to verify the lic and if goldmine's lic is good it can be installed. So some of you may be wondering how could I of done fresh installations on the PC's and not run into this before! That is because before the OS was installed I saved / backed up the EU's profile.

So here is what I did to accomplish this and keep him going. 

   I Backed up the users file's (doc, pic etc) and then I also save the whole profile (Redundant I know) I just don't take any chances 
Then format the HD, install OS & apps etc and then install MS updates etc and then pc is 1st set up in a workgroup (not in the domain yet).

   Then I join the PC back into the domain (with my domain admin account) then I log in as the normal user (say John) and then I log off that user (John) so the org profile is created. Then I go back into my admin account rename "John's" (profile) to "Johnold" then copy the backed up profile back onto the pc. This has been the only way for the goldmine's mapped shares / lic etc will work for him.

   I have tried doing the fresh install (trial / test run) and then put the user's doc, pic's, fav's etc back and copy the goldmine lic back into the user's (newly created) profile it fails every time and goldmine will not work and that is when the user will get the error's in goldmine.

Boy I hope this makes since to you guys. So another words if I back up there stuff (folder by folder) and then put all the stuff back (folder by folder etc) goldmine will not work. That is when that goldmine error / access issue comes up. But if the whole process is done by using the old / original profile goldmine works.

Thankfully enough this is not my boss or I would have to deal with it too.

In my area besides myself I know folks that work in server farms, and citrix servers etc etc and no one has EVER worked on or touched goldmine.   

Thanks a bunch again, Mike  If suggesting an alternative to Goldmine to your client is an approach you could take, here's something that I was just now looking at: http://www.zoho.com/crm/demo/ and http://www.zoho.com/crm/zohocrm-pricing.html.  Since the pricing structure offers monthly based on number of users, the cost of getting started with it would be very little compared to paying a $12K license fee to Goldmine.  This product is called Zoho CRM.  They even offer a free edition with, of course, some limitations in features.   Thanks a bunch to everyone

    I will look into zoho and give him the info and then the ball will be in his court. I do understand his point I would not want to pay the 12k and I too think the Company is out of there mind. I know companies have to make money but considering there is so few pc's and users that price is way out of line. Hopefully if the zoho crm works for him I will have some way to export all the info (contacts / files etc) into a package that zoho can import.

Solve : Hotmail keeps crashing safari?

Hello,

I am very new to macs and don't know much about internet forums!

I have recently installed a printer to my macbook pro and since then, I've encountered some frustrating glitches in Hotmail!! When I type an email,the window drops to the bottom of the page and although continues to type, I can't READ it until I scroll up, and then when I start typing again the screen drops again!! Also, if I use the backspace button a message flashes up saying 'are you sure you want to quit this message' - all I want to do is delete one letter!!!

Also if i use the 'search' function to LOOK for emails, safari crashes!

I don't know what safari version you were running and what manufacture of the printer but you may have a add-on that is causing this

If you're running Safari 2.x:

1. From the "Safari" menu, select "PREFERENCES".
2. Click the "Security" tab.
3. Uncheck "Enable Plug-Ins".
4. Click "OK".
5. Close and relaunch your Internet browser.

If you're running Safari 3.x:

1. First click the "Safari" menu.
2. Select "Preferences" from the "Safari" menu.
3. Select the "Security" Tab.
4. Remove the check from "Enable Plugins".

Solve : update ccleaner?

i have windows XP home,  sp3, IE8, and mozilla firefox....which i use most of the time.   when i get a notice that there is an update available for the ccleaner, i have a terrible time downloading it.   the screen tells me to "click here to download",  and another screen that tells me "click here to download...."   then i get another.  and another.  all slightly different.   all friendly.  but i have to skate across 5-6 screens or more to actually get my update and it always feels like a happy accident.   there's a place where i need to choose filehippo(?) or PIRIFORM.  does that choice change the download complexity somehow?    what's the secret to an easy download on mozilla.   would changing browsers help? You should not be getting notifications about updates on your browser, and the problem you describe has nothing to do with Firefox. Anyway, just go to the website of ccleaner's author for the download (http://www.piriform.com/)

That's not normal.  You should not see filehippo anywhere during this update procedure.  When you  respond to the prompting to update CCleaner, you should be taken directly to piriform, the maker of CCleaner.  However, CCleaner can be downloaded from numerous other download sites such as filehippo.  But, getting CCleaner from a source other than piriform normally requires the user to intentionally go to that other source to get it.

In the past, have you intentionally downloaded software from filehippo?  What web browser is set as your default browser?  Is a different browser opening when you seek an update to CCleaner? hello...i'm sure i have opted downloading the newer ccleaner from filehippo.   they seemed to have equal "billing".....neither one more important than the other, so.....sometimes i've used filehippo and sometimes piriform.   and i get shuffled from one screen to another.  " CLICK HERE TO DOWNLOAD..."   "CLICK HERE TO DOWNLOAD".... ETC. ETC.    firefox is my default browser and i don't recall any browser changes during this update process.   i think there was less "FUSS and feathers" if i changed to IE before attempting the download though.    does that make any sense?    meanwhile, since there's apparently another download available NOW, i'll go to the piriform site to take care of it.

By "equal 'billing'", I hope you mean it's free from both sources.  And, you should just forget filehippo.  Just go to the source, piriform; there's no need to go to another source and doing so seems to be causing some confusion.

Without a very detailed, step-by-step, description of what happens, the repetitive "CLICK HERE TO DOWNLOAD" does not make much sense.

No, it doesn't make sense.  As long you understand how any particular browser handles downloads, then you should be able to use it.   Firefox works fine for downloading.

Regarding jason's suggestion to disable "AUTOMATICALLY check for updates ...", you can do that but keep in mind you'll need to manually check for updates in order to keep CCleaner from getting way behind on updates.

Piriform links to Filehippo so that not all traffic will always go to their site. For future reference, the links to direct download the latest version (on both sites) are:

OK, I STAND corrected.  I always go to the Builds page on Piriform's website and download the Slim version.  So, I overlooked that option to download the Standard version from filehippo.  The Slim version shows up several days or more after the Standard version. Do you mean for update alerts?  No, on the Builds page of Piriform.  FileHippo never has the Slim version, Majorgeeks does.
For July, the Standard version was released 5 days before the Slim version.

Solve : Dell Poweredge 1750's installing Ubuntu Server problems??

ok. So i have three Dell Poweredge 1750 servers, and am attempting to make use of them and install linux based servers on all of them. Most preferably ubuntu.

I tried just plugging the cd in, and booting like any old computer, my ISO freezes at the ubuntu splash screen, or i should describe it as the screen with the options for the "Install Ubuntu Server", "RESCUE a broken system" ext.

So i go to the dell website and look around. I see that they have the Server Management ISO for my server. I download it, and it BOOTS, so i know it is nothing wrong with the computer, due to the reason that it boots to a LIVE cd environment just fine. So i go BACK to the dell SITE, and see that ubuntu is not compatible with the "Server Management" disks they have, but it seems the only way to install.

Does anyone know how to get around this, or if i am missing the right ISO from dell so i can continue with the ubuntu install.

Thanks, This is probably a rookie question, as i am new to the world of dedicated rackmount servers. well, the Server Management disks to not allow me to boot to the ubuntu linux that i know and love, it is only allowing me to use the Fedora Enterprise servers, the SuSE servers, or Microsoft, and if i attempt to place a disk with Ubuntu on it, the Server Management refuses it. I GUESS this is kinda confusing. But to be honest, i am a bit confused as well.

Failed OS's so far: Ubuntu Server 12.4, Ubuntu Server 11.10, Ubuntu Server 10.4, CentOS, OpenSUSE, ext ext

The only thing that might work is the Server Management thing. I just want to know how to boot to regular disks. Problem solved. For some reason, using a USB keyboard causes this. Alright. alright. The simplest things.

How Can I create a batch file that will enter the password automatically into another program when it loads? 

I was doing some research this morning and  haven't found what I"m looking for.   I use 2 programs on my office computer (this is my computer not the COMPANY I work for) every day that require me to enter my password everytime I load the programs. 

Now I use Roboform form filler on the internet but that only fills forms on web based content in IE.  use this

Thanks a million!   Okay so I got this to work using one of the programs so far but it's entering the password in the "User ID:" field.  What do I need to add to the code to have it enter into the field labeled "Password:" .......  Or better yet have both of them entered.  Here's what my script code looks like (keep in mind that the window ACTIVE is labeled "User Login" so I had to use that as the program name):

One more question.... okay maybe it's not just one more question :-)

I'm running this script for 2 separate programs so I have to keep 2 icons on my desktop amongst many others I use hotkeys for.  I'm tyring to minimize the amount of icons I have on my desktop so Is there a way to have the 2 scripts run in the same .vbs file?  I tried this but it enter the 2 different passwords together in one of the programs.  I thought maybe with an "if, then, else" statement or something coded in it would work the way I need it to.  I just don't understand this the VB language so.....

AppActivate activates an already running program by the title of it's window. If you want to start a program, There is something else to do it (I don't know what, specifically, possibly WScript.Exec()... (Not On windows at the moment, so I cannot check)

Solve : Help with printing a large image?

Alright so i'm trying to print a certain image on transparency film which will be used for screen printing. My question is how can I set up a document in word so that when I print a document which is 16 by 20 Inches it won't cut off. My second question is how can I put this image in the document and be sure that the white (which is supposed to be transparent) won't print?

Normal paper is 8 by 11.5 for letters. You need a tetra wide printer to do 16 by 20.
You need to make a custom paper size in Word.

Yeah i've set them up in word but they still get cut off at the 8 by 11 marks for some reason even the though page is 16 by 20I don't think "Une Simple Entoile" makes sense in French...

I would argue that you should be reasonably sure anyway- Printers don't have white ink, after all!

I have another question here though: if you want to print an image, why are you using Word?

Either way, those margins are either set by the Printer Driver, or sometimes even the Printer itself. You might even try opening the image in MSPaint and printing from there and seeing how it turns out. If it get's cut off there, you'll need to visit the settings for the printer driver and/or research possible limitations on the printer itself.

I would appreciate a little help with the following issue.  Up til 3 months ago I did not have computer issues. But now when someone is calling me through yahoo messenger, they can hear me talk, type, but I can not hear them etc. My speakers r working properly ACCORDING to the computer. I can play cds, videos etc without any issues. but with yahoo messenger I know LONGER hear their phone RING nor can I hear ANYONE respond to me.  ThanksThen it's a messenger SETTING that has somehow gotten changed...since it worked before...then how do I know what to change? For a while it seems to not be working anymore, because usually when I want to download a video from anywhere a grey tab will appear at the top of the video when I put the cursor over it and I can click it to download. I've recently been having some problems with ADOBE flash player, choppy videos and the occasional crash, that sort of thing. So does anyone know of a good stable working version or alternative brands? Because I have no idea when it all started.Best source is Adobe.

Thank you. Although I think a recent update has fixed the problem whilst I've been on holiday.Nope my previous post was wrong. I also tried uninstalling flash player & reinstalling the hand picked correct version (as apposed to the version firefox recommended). That made things worse.

So I'm now running Adobe Flash Player 11.2.202.235 (x64) (Non-IE), fixed perfectly. So if any else is having VIDEO problems with firefox here's a solution.

Solve : Saved Images not showing.?

I work for a business portal site and am always saving images from the original web site, putting them into Photoshop, prettying them up and posting onto the portal pages. I am right clicking on the image and saving them onto my desktop, and they don't show up. If I do a search to FIND them, it says they're there on the desktop..... but I can't see them. Help would be much appreciated.  Do you have some empty space on your desktop?  Based on what you've said, I can imagine you COMPLETELY filling your desktop.  If that HAPPENS and you continue to save images to the desktop, I'm not sure what happens.  Perhaps they are saved but are not VISIBLE due to your desktop space being full. 

In addition to files, do you have folders on your desktop?No, there is plenty of room, as I move any keeper files into a folder on the desktop, which eventually go into a deeper folder ELSEWHERE. This has always worked until a few days ago. Other things I drop on there for a time show up, just not the right click/save as ones (... though I have just saved the prettied up images from PS and they are hidden as well). Most peculiar, as they are still there as they come up in a search.If you click some where on the desktop and then hit F5 (to refresh the screen), do the images appear? I think you should create a folder for these photos and then create a desktop shortcut to it but that's just me...I am lazy and rarely shut down my computer properly, just hibernate. I shut it down completely today and they all came back. Lesson learned. It was too late to try the F5 refresh to see if that works, but will try that if it happens again. Also a Desktop Shortcut for some of the folders would stop double handling, I like that. Thanks all!

The users submit the XLS to us. My role is to add them to the back-end tables based on the data. I do certainly agree that  access would be a 'better' choice, but can't affect that change.

Solve : Problem with Bit locker?

I was encrypting my flash drive with Bit Locker File Encryption on a friend's laptop but had to pause it and remove the flash drive.  When I connected the flash drive to my own laptop (which does not have Bit Locker INSTALLED on it), I was asked to resume encryption process, which I did.  Due to the flash drive still being accessible during encryption, I deleted some file on it. The encryption process still went on after deleting the files. But I later got a red pop-up saying  ERROR: FILE NOT FOUND  The encryption process then ended immediately.  When I removed the flash drive and inserted it again it wasn't showing in My Computer. ALSO there was no sound as to indicate the presence of a new usb HARDWARE.  I want to know if the flash drive has been permanently damaged , and if not how can I access the flash drive on my laptop again.?No need to double Post...

Solve : How does cpu usage effect antivirus scans??

I use Microsoft Security Essentials free.  The settings allow you to 'Limit CPU usage during the scan'. 

Please explain the hows and whys?  I GOOGLED it but.....

I guess scan times change and am not sure if a high or low setting alters the effectiveness of the scan.

Lower cpu usage results in more cycles available for other APPS and slower scan speed.Personally i schedule my scans to run at 4 AM when i'm asleep...So the only VARIABLE that changes with different settings is how long the routine scan takes?Correct.

Solve : Need help with swapping hard drive and fresh XP install?

Ok, I'm GOING to try to be concise here without making this too long. I have a HP a6110n Pavillion that I was having trouble with. It would power off when LEFT to hibernate, and repeatedly when trying to reboot. I had the idea that I would just ditch the Pavillion instead of putting any more money or time into it because I have a HP xw4400 workstation sitting here, supposedly in good working order but missing a hard drive.

Since the Pavillion would stay on for several HOURS once I finally managed to get it up and running, I had planned on formatting the hard drive, putting the hard drive into the 4400 workstation, and doing a fresh install of Windows XP Pro. I started the formatting process and the Pavillion powered off in the middle of the format, and while I could get it to restart, I could not get it to stay powered on long enough to complete the format.

Anyway, I guess I didn't completely think this through and am now a lot less confident that I can pull this off. I haven't had to do a reformat or fresh install or had to work with DOS since I had Windows 95. Can anyone help me with some ideas on how to approach this? Is the fact that the hard drive is only partially formatted going to give me problems or can I just use fdisk once I get the hard drive installed into the 4400? I kind of need a step by step process, as my cold feet have left me not knowing exactly where to start.Welcome to CH.

The standard procedure is to just boot the XP CD and let it do the rest.
During the install the setup program will repair any damage to the hard drive file system.; provided the drive does not have major PHYSICAL issues.OK, thanks. Solve : Why won't Java work??

Hi.  I've just installed Java because I want to use the 'Search by playing' facility on the Tunepal website.  The Java website says Java is installed successfully, but on the Tunepal website instead of seeing the 'Search by playing' where it should be, all I get is the Java icon with BLUE squares circling round as if it needs time to do something, but it's been doing it for ages.  Thanks for any help & advice!which OS u r using?
If win7, go to start type in updates and click on first (check for updates) try to google "jre updates" and this will update ur java script. may be its just ur windows is not updated in a while. if it doesnt solve ur problem, come with more details please.

There is no 'Windows Essential' anti-virus, i think you mean 'Microsoft Security Essentials' (personally, i'd struggle to take advice from someone who does not know the name of what they are recommending)

MSE or Avast?  Started with MSE on Win7-64 about 1 year ago because AVG gave too many false positives.  I like it because it's so non-intrusive, no nags, no popups, no messages, no registration.  You forget it's even there.  Need to LOOK at tray icon once in a while to see if it's green instead of orange.

Only had a problem with it once:  tray icon would no longer display, but process was running.  Uninstalled & reinstalled fixed that.

Now use it on WINXP, too.

Solve : I cant login to my laptop windows xp?

I downloaded pGina version 1.8.8 and shortly after I couldn't see my personal files on my  laptop. It asks for a username and password to login to pGina when I TURN on my laptop, but I never had the chance to create a username and password to pGina. I have been logging in as "admin". I have tried to configure pGina but when I CHANGE the settings, it defaults to the original settings before i changed them. my administrator user is limited only views and cant make changes . I have also tried safe mode\safe mode with network\debugging \boot logging.
In safe mode, I was looking for DISABLING and uninstalling pGina but when I try to uninstall pGina it says I don't have administrative rights. The reason I downloaded pGina was because my laptop couldn't connect to a more secure protocol WPA2 and kept defaulting to WEP in windows. My laptop hasn’t had this problem before and I have been able to access WPA2 at other wifi hotspots. My network adaptor is Atheros AR5001X   IEEE 802.1X V 3.20.3 that has WPA\WPA2 features for secure internet connection.

So I’ve searched about this issue and I found that windows has a problem in “unable to authenticate certification authorization” and because of that matter I researched and I found that a program called XSUPPLICANT  2.2.0.710 resolves that problem by replacing windows authentication by INSTALLING a new authenticator.
Xsupplicant and pGina come hand in hand. Xsupplicant working on the internet connection, and pGina is an interface in GINA windows.
Please let me know in detail how to resolve this issue.
We can’t determine if this is an error or settings issue.
Any suggestions to where and how to obtain the right information will be VERY appreciated.

I cannot set an email rule that works after I have set it up and "TESTED" it. Example: I keep getting emails from an on-line casino which includes "rack up some quick cash" in the text body. I carefully set up a rule to redirect any emails with this condition into my deleted folder instead of my JUNK mail folder. When I tick the box saying "run this rule now?" and hit enter, the junk mail folder is emptied and the emails go to deleted items. BUT when I say apply and OK to "file" the rule, the next time an email comes in, it goes to junk mail and just SITS there WITHOUT being redirected to deleted items.
Using win 7 but with office 2003. Not a train smash but irritating.

I downloaded a zip of photoshop cs5, but the file was a zip, so I downloaded and used iZip, and I unpacked the file but now I dont know how to run the program to install photoshop. My question is

Solve : HOw do I get rid of "SmartWebPrinting" error message.?

Everytime I call up a browser, ie or chrome, i get an error message "cannot open SmartWebPrinting".   "Insert the proper CD".      I  have to delete it over and over.  what a PAIN.        I have tried various ways to get rid of it, except I have  not messed with the registry.   Any body know how to do this? ?     Thanks for reading,   JIMHave you removed it in Add/Remove programs yet ? ?

Can you tell me what I am doing wrong? ? ?    I am running Windows 7 64bit OS.   I don't know what version of Internet explorer I have. I believe it is 9 or maybe 11.If all else has failed...although i rarely recommend it i'd run Revo again and let it do the registry cleanup...
From all i've read this is a stubborn one...Thanks PATIO; I think that I may have shot myself in the foot.   The first time that I used REVO was over 30 days ago and evidently I only had use of it for 30 days.   Now I have to buy it if I want to use it some more.   Wasn't planning on that..   Is there some other program that i can use  that will do the same thing? ?

I looked in the registry and found two places where SmartWebPrinting was located.  One had a .msn extension and the other had a .dll extension.  I did not disturb them however, I just looked.    I was thinking of backing them up then deleting them.     Yes? no?   What do you think? ?Worth a shot...How the registry is backed up is important.

THe program itself actually differs based on product. My "Need for Speed II SE" CD has an autorun.exe program, and so does  my Visual Studio 98 Disc. The former is actually a flash player program, and the latter is a installshield bootstrapper.

Solve : Asio4all. FL studio problems in vista?

Hello to all.

So, if anyone saw my other posts. i am running a music studio type deal in windows vista on a laptop.

I have FL Studio Producer edition installed, and ALSO have the Asio4all v2.10 driver for sound. The Asio4all does not have a specific driver for the dell inspiron 1526 model that i have, so i am using the generic.

Well, in FL studio, i try to record some guitar and/or lyrics into the timeline of the song, but asio 4 all only recognizes my internal microphone on the computer (which i found odd, CONSIDERING i did not think it would have a internal microphone as it does not have a webcam)
I know this is the internal, because a slight tap on the actual laptop gets a large sound to show up on my input sound meter.

it also recognizes a feed from the microphone jack, but i get the actual FL song into the recording unintentionally, like you will be able to hear the drums, bass, lead, ext in the recorded mix. this makes me feel like it is messing up somewhere. It is not using the internal microphone, but it has the mix combined in the recording

I have gone through the computer as well and disabled all the services i do not need, so that has been taken out of the way, if that was a problem. I just want to know how to get some acoustic recordings into FL.

If this cant be fixed, i suppose i could use Audacity to record, then use the guitar from that as a sample, but that would be a large hassle.

All my laptops have a microphone input; it's a small hole, usually in the top-center of the screen. Best I can guess given what you've said is that you are getting basic feedback; that is, while you are recording you are PLAYING out the speakers, which not surprisingly get's picked up by the microphone.

The best way to combat this is to use headphones.

"into a mixer to the computer" makes no sense to me. Most sound devices have at least a sound output (obviously) a microphone, and possibly a few line inputs and outputs. None of these perform mixing; mixing is done on the software side by combining those inputs.

I'll point out that most integrated sound circuitry, while OK for basic tasks, sucks terribly for this sort of purpose. Usually the drivers are not at all tested for this scenario which may very well be why you aren't able to get it working.

Instead of trying to use FLStudio for that, you can use another program. Personally I would play the sound through FL studio while simultaneously recording as needed using a program like audacity; then import the resulting recording into FL Studio. This achieves the exact same thing FLStudio would anyway, but also gives you the Acapella as a separate recording, so you can perform things like noise removal before importing it into the FLStudio project.

Personally, I haven't used ASIO4ALL; I have it installed but that's because it seems to come with FLStudio. It doesn't actually get used unless I swap over to the integrated sound circuitry (at which point I get that fun little system tray notification thing). You might want to read through the ASIO4ALL documentation. I can say that the times I've stumbled upon using ASIO4ALL I quickly backed out and switched back to my dedicated sound card drivers...

-by mixer, i ment a phisical 16 channel mixer from my studio. not something with the computer.

Solve : can't add outlook data file (pst)?

Hi there,
After formatting my computer hard DISK I was attempting to restore my outlook (MS Office Pro 2003, Windows xp). I had several data files (.pst) backed up, one of which is rather big (~ 2 GB). So I did the:
data files management >
add... >
Office outlook personal folders file (.pst) >
(browsed and selected the file)

A message appeared that the selected file was not closed properly and then another message suggested the following: "The file xxx.pst has reach its maximum size. To reduce the amount of data in this file, select some items that you no longer need, then permanently (shift + del) delete them."

How can I delete items from within a pst file that wouldn't open? Or else - any other suggestion?

The limitation size for 03 is 2G. It will usually crap on you about 1.8G tho. To fix and save your data, you will need to find a data recovery software for pst files. then you can split the data in half and have 2 working pst files. Alternatively you can update your Outlook to 07 which does not have the pst file limitation.Thanks Chrisxs5, this was quick. Any particular recovery software you would recommend? Freeware would be prefered, of course.Never found a successful freeware version, if you find one let me know. I bought and have used kernal repair for awhile now.

It was about 50 when I bought but have used several times to save customers pst files.I have used Stellar Phoenix pst repair software to repair and recover my pst file.You can use this software it is very easy to use and provides good recovery solution.File size is one of the major issues associated with outlook and restoring such huge sized files is another complicated time consuming task. Truly deleting the items won’t be possible until the files are opened. Archiving though a viable option is not applicable as the PST files are not in accessible condition. This is correct. If you NEED outlook then so be it, otherwise, I suggest Mozilla Thunderbird. if you are receiving  "The file xxx.pst has reach its maximum size. To reduce the amount of data in this file, select some items that you no longer need, then permanently (shift + del) delete them." then you really need to reduce the file size of MS outlook for you can use Microsoft 2GB truncation tool. it is specially made to reduce the file size after CROPING unused file you have to perform outlook pst repair. when you repair Outlook pst using scanpst.exe after that you may be able to access your outlook emails and contacts.

Solve : Excel 2000 range name problem on ME and on Vista Home...?

Excel 2000 problem noticed on ME first (and put down to ME's age!) and then strangely on Vista Home...a ranges name is shown in the cell itself superimposed on top of the value in the cell.

Well that's the LONG and the short and I can't add much other than to SAY, I have found no CLUE as to why it happens or how to turn it off but wonder whether it is SOMETHING in Vista compatibility settings for excel 2000.

N.B. The particular FILE in question has macros which were 99% written in Excel 2000 and 1% in 2007 but there is no reason of which I am aware as to suspect incompatibility.

Thanks.Have you tried a Repair install of Office ? ?If you open a blank spreadsheet (with no macros) and name a few ranges, does the same behavior occur?

                   Ihave an old laptop and i want to reformat it, the problem is i dont have the dvd rom.. i tried booting on usb but it wont boot up.....i tried REMOVING the hardrive and reformat it with desktop computer but after the installation of windows and returning it on laptop it still wont boot up...... sorry for my bad english, hope someone could help me.... thank you...

Does it have a working floppy?
If you do not have a LICENSE to install XP, you might consider busing Windows 98 instead. The laptop likely was licensed for Windows 98.

Solve : Blue Screen problem READ DESCRIPTION I KNOW ITS LONG?

Recently I downloaded some software and as soon as I would finish installing it, the computer SCREEN would get all fuzzy and then a blue screen would appear saying that Windows has SHUT down automatically to prevent my computer from any damage. I tried this again and again for a few times but each time it finished installation this same problem would occur. I tried to install the software in few other drives as well but the same thing happened. The files would still be on my PC after restarting, but I wasn't able to run the program. I downloaded an update and tried to replace the older files but the blue screen came back, without any installation. I restarted the computer and uninstalled the software in all the different locations in Safe mode and restarted the PC in normal mode. I ran an avast anti virus scan with no results. My computer STAYED normal for more than an hour and just when I thought the problem had ENDED the blue screen came back and I restarted the computer and deleted the installer and ran a search on the computer for all files that had the same name as the software I downloaded and I typed this post just in case it came back.Post the entire BSODn error message include the gibberish...ok that was the last time after i deleted the installation software no more blue screen thanks guys sorry for wasting your time...

Solve : Filehippo update checker?

I've had the update checker for some time now with no problems. Today when I started up there was no Filehippo icon in the toolbar so I tried to check the APP. but could not get it to open.  The only thing I can think of that may have affected things is the fact that yesterday I UPDATED my browser to Firefox 13 (on the prompting of Filehippo).  Could this have suppressed the update checker somehow?   Advice appreciated.FileHippo is a commercial service that makes money giving people what is available for free.

Why not ask them what the problem is?

Here are this forum the general view is that you do not need commercial programs to do what you get for free.

Do you have already in place a proven backup play? If so, this might be a goo time to use it.I'm afraid I jumped the GUN with my QUERY - I've just started up again and things are back to normal - so all ok.

Solve : Home group or work group ??

I have a pc used only by me & only for communicating with others & the USUAL surfing. Should I use Home Group or Work group ?"communicating with others" how?  Are they in the same building?  Or, do you MEAN over the Internet?Sorry !  By communicating with others, I mean writing to friends & family, posting on favorite websites stuff like that. pc not used for work. I get the idea that work group would mean just that;used for work, while home group would mean using the pc the way I just described. Make sense ? The Home Group or Work Group generally have nothing to do with connecting to the Internet.  They relate to how computers in a home or OFFICE are networked together.  No need to worry about them unless you WANT to create a local network with other computers.  A reference: What is the difference between a domain, a workgroup, and a homegroup?
