So My girlfriend made a video using Windows Vista's Windows movie editor. She used a lot of small video clips and they all work perfectly and showed up just fine. After we published it though some of the video clips showed up as black. It still had the audio we had set up during those clips but it just only showed black where a couple of the videos should have been. All of the videos where done with the same camera, same format, and had all the same setting. We don't know how to fix this or even what is going on that is the problem. 2. Did you test out video files in a media player like window media player and it play perfectly fine with the audio and sound you EXPECT? For video playback, I would definitely install klite codec pack into your pc, as well as standalone divx and xvid codec and that should handle almost all major video FILE types. If klite codec pack installer tell you to disable or uninstall divx or xvid codec to prevent issues, keep the codecs on but disable ok.

3. These are filetypes supported by windows xp's version of windows movie maker, but I assume windows movie maker of vista also support same file  types. I have only been using wmv, avi and mpeg files recently with the windows movie maker of vista. Quote

I need to BURN a disk and the only way that I know it will work for sure is if I do it in NERO since I GOT one made like it with currpted files.  The thing is that I install it then tell it to make a data disk but it just stands there.  I think its like ver 6After similar problems I gave up

I have a WORD document where i have "indents".
BUT NOT all the indents have the same justification interms of EXACT distance from the left side of the page.

They are off by 1/16" ---- or ----- the words wrap UNDERNEATH the numberic number of the item.

There are parts of the word document that are perfect --- such as the word wrap forms a PERFECT paragraph and the number stands in it own column.

Is there a way, (like in Excel) to highlight the format I want & paste the same format on the "SCREWED-UP" parts --- so they're all the same??? 

If not --- is there another method --- aside from jerking with the indents manually up top on the ruler?

I figured it out...


I highlighted the GOOD paragraph.
Right clicked and made a NEW style.

Then highlighted the BAD STUFF and selected the new style to follow from the buttons uptop.
Then right clicked again to re-start the numbering again... 1

I am trying to install Office 2007 on an HP laptop running Vista Business and has a 64KB PROCESSOR. I put the disk in and it starts the install program. It tells me it can't find the Office.en-us/OfficeLR.cab file. I can physically open the disk and the file is there but when I try to guide the install to it all it shows for available files in this folder is a 1033 folder. If I try to point it to any folder except the root DVD/CD drive it tells me invalid location. The laptop is currently running Office 2003 and also has Open Office on it. Do I have to uninstall the Office 2003 first? I didn't have to on my desktop but that runs XP. Any ideas?

DennisInstalling two versions of Office on the same computer can be tricky.  Microsoft generally recommends not doing it. Here's an article which may be helpful: Working with Multiple Versions of Office

If you have your desktop PC and laptop PC networked, you could do as I do. I have Office 2003 installed on my desktop (Win XP) and Office 2007 installed on my laptop (Vista).  The two computers are networked via my router and I have file sharing enabled.  So, if I'm using my laptop and want to open a file an Office 2003 file on my desktop, I can navigate to it via the network and open the file and work with it on laptop. When finished, I merely save it to the original desktop location.  Office 2007 automatically knows to save such files in Office 2003 file FORMAT; it immediately recognizes it is working with an Office 2003 file upon opening the file.Actually I'm trying to UPGRADE to 2007 from 2003. I don't want to keep both versions on it. On my desktop it just overwrote the 2003 and installed 2007 over top. This laptop wont even start to install. It says it cant find that cab file and when I try to point it to the file to show the program where it is it ISNT there and I get invalid location for that folder. this might help: Office 2007 clean install from Upgrade?

I am useing Audacity and I just need some help with the imput level.

I see whenever I import say an MP3 Music File in Audacity it will show you a graph of the Audio File.

And the graph is FLAT and does not move I like this it just show the Flat graph spreadout across the screen.

And the  graph seems to always be displayed as very high  what I meen is the graph will always be spreadout to the very top and ver bottum of the Tracks.
And it plays ok and sound good so I wanted to know when I do a recording to get the best sound sould I have the imput level in Audacity set all the way to the Lright I think that is to 100%

I have a directory for all my downloads and I put what I do not use  in there. I don't bother cleaning it out until it gets real big, like gigabytes. Then I put them on a DVD-R and file it.

I'm trying to create a .gif (from a video CLIP) using GIMP.  I've been able to do everything, but when it comes time to view my finished product it undergoes a massive slowdown.  Here's what I did, step by step.

Use MediaCoder (Ver. 0.7.0 Build 4385) to pick out a few seconds from the full length video.
Muted the clip.
Transcoded into AVI.
Used GIMP's "Split Video into Frames" option to ATTAIN the frames. (CHANGING only the destination for the frames and "Audiotrack" to 0)
Used the "Playback" option to review, and select the exact frames necessary, deleting the excess.
Used the "Frames to Image" leaving all options alone.
Used "Scale Image" to reduce the dimensions slightly.
Then went and saved (using "Save As"), inputting the .gif extension.  Selected "Save as Animation".
LEFT all other options alone.

It looks perfectly fine under GIMP's playback option, yet if I GO over to my folder and preview it there, that image is sluggish and choppy.  Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong?

I'm monitoring three different computers on one SCREEN, (with VNC).

Any way to lay a transparent graphic over each of those MACHINE's screens so that I can instantly tell them apart?

The program itself has no way to change its interface itself, and it's a light gray, so I consider it an EMPTY canvas ready to paint on.

The graphic WOULD be set to be always-on-top, and I would hope to be able to click "through" it to control the programs beneath.

Any ideas?

OK this MAY sound dumb, but I'm lost.  I had posted a problem with a hard drive that was missing a file to boot up.  My question is, If I insert a start up disk will it make the hard drive run?  OK two for one offer,  another question, does a start up disk come in a USB  NOW?No to your first question and yes to your second question.

If you boot from a floppy, you might be able to view files on your hard drive (depends if it is NTFS) and what type of floppy you are BOOTING with.

If you computer supports booting to USB then you can boot to a USB drive.ANY IDEA WHRE I CAN GET A USB START UP ?burned we're going to need more info on your machine , what happened prior to this and what OS you are running to assist further.  PATIO, I installed two hard drives ( not together ) It looks like both HD were knocked down by some SVC host. exe ( trogan)  I didn't want to format, since I have so much information on them.  I tried to do what they say the R-repair with the license CD but it wouldn't.  Later on, the motherboard dosn't reconize none of them.
Other than that, I havn't done anything, hoping that I could save my files.  My OS is Windows XP.  Any help would be apreciated.  I keep reading the forum, trying to figure out if what my repair man at the computer center I always deal with is trying to make a few bucks on my hopes.  He wants to charge $75.00 and says "MAYBE" we can recover your files.  I must include that both HD I was the Administrator with a password.  I don;t know if that helps.

I have been running into problems with my satellite server in that they only allow 200MB/day download/uploads.  My computer is set to automatically download updates from Microsoft and Norton Anti-virus.  Apparently it downloaded 173MB a few days ago and coupled with a few smaller downloads, that put me over the top for the next 24 hours and connectivity slowed down to about 12kb!  I am still at a loss as to figure out what program downloaded 173MB?  This was done while I was not using my computer, but it was still connected to the internet.  How does one find that out?  I checked in the add/remove programs to see what, if anything, was added to Microsoft or Adobe updates and couldn't find anything.  Anyway, the satellite PROVIDER suggested that I get a Download Manager and when I Googled it there were so many choices that I had no idea which one was the most user-friendly and one that I could set to do the automatic downloads between 3:00AM and 6:00AM as that is the "free" time in the service that I use.  Any suggestions from satisfied Download Manager users out there?  Thanks in advance.

I have a very large Publisher document. A few months back, I changed the default font, but the line spacing also changed, even though I did not change it. I cannot figure out how to change the line spacing of the entire document! So since then I change the line spacing one page at a time as I am working on it. Very time consuming!

Each page is a large text box of written or imported text.

I HIGHLIGHT the TEXT inside the text box, open FORMAT, open PARAGRAPH, then change line spacing.  But it only works on the highlighted portion of the text I selected.  There is no option that says "Apply to entire document" or words like that.

It's possible that MS added a product key to their blacklist, and yors happens to be similar enough to fall into it.I bought it at Tiger Direct. Gateway only told me I should restore my PC to its factory settings...of course the restore DISCS did not come with the PC....so Im getting those in a week. It might be possible to download the restore discs from their web site. This is assuming you have a burner to use, of course.

I've heard of it happening with XP; installing one of the service packs for example can invalidate some OEM installations because MS blacklists OEM keys that are distributed on pirate networks. Unfortunately the legit users are impacted as well.

Unfortunately MS only really helps with RETAIL copies of windows purchased from stores, and defects to your Manufacturer in the case of an OEM install.

Windows XP Pro SP2.
I have 3 scheduled tasks that run on one of my servers. They are started by a SPECIAL user account that is not used by anyone, it is part of the Administrator Group. My userid is also in the Admin Group. When I log on the 3 jobs are not running. I start them via Scheduled Tasks (as the special user) and I can see the processes running via the Task Manager. If I log off and then log on and LOOK at the process again, they are NOT running.

Any Ideas?Try removing the tick from the "Run only if logged on" check BOX.
I double CHECKED the scheduled tasks. The "Run only if logged on" box is not checked.
Any other ideas?Is the Task Scheduler service running? i.e. Is it set to Automatic?
Is there any information in the log file to indicate any problem with the scheduled tasks?

i uninstalled nero 9 and now i am trying to get it out of my regedit (XP) i have been hitting the F-3 key for hours now , are there no end to the nero stuff in regedit?

There is no NEED to remove all traces of Nero from the computer, especially from the REGISTRY.

By going through the registry, you will risk destroying the computer.

I'm trying to make a list but when I go from 99 to 100 the spacing GETS all

I've had Office 97 since 1997 and have been happy with it, however, since many documents I receive have been done on newer versions of Office, I decided to buy Microsoft Office Home & Student.  My other reason is that I have recently PURCHASED a LAPTOP that doesn't have a word processing program so I figured I would buy the newer version because the salesman assured me that I could legally RUN the NEW version on both of my computers, but Office 97 cannot be run legally on both computers.  Since I have thousands of documents done with Office 97 I am wondering how well these documents will open on the newer version?  The salesman at Staples said that the two programs would run along side each other and that I didn't have to DELETE Office 97 from my system.  Is this true?  And will they play nice together?  I also have more than a few documents on floppies that were made with Word Perfect in 1995.  Will I have a problem opening these in the newer version of Office?  And yes, I still have 2 floppy drives on my computer that I had built about 4 years ago.  I never have much luck putting stuff on re-writeable cds and then getting them to open again and do changes.  I have an external hard drive instead.  Thanks for your time.Word 97 documents will open fine with Word 2007.  You can then decide whether to save it in Word 97-2003 format, i.e., .doc, or the newer Word 2007 format, i.e., .docx.   If you want, you can set Word 2007 to use the Word 97-2003 format by default.

Installing two versions of Office on the same computer can be done but it's not recommended.  If you want to install both, do a careful read of this: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/218861

Adobe is a moister program and I avoid it altogether. I use the old version 6, which may be the last usable version they made.

Hope this is the right place to post. How can i go about doing this without the CD? the laptop is an hp pavillion dv 1000 and it has a partioned disk. If you don't care about your data, you won't break anything by trying.I'm sorry didn't explain properly. i had the win32/virut which had infected the filled of the partitioned disk, so this is why i'm not sure it might not work. i'm gonna back up the necessary files before i do this. If you back up, make sure, after reinstall, you scan every single file with AV program.i know. i surely plan to. at the moment i'm just RUNNING one final scan with dr. web cure it to ensure that the files i back up are not ifected.Make sure, you re-scan them later, too.so just as i had anticipated, when i open the hp recovery console it tells me that NTRDL is missing. I have been trying to burn a .iso image to a disk but with no success.

I have been trying to burn using both blank CD's and DVD's (from different companies).
I used free easy cd/dvd burner 3.8 and InfraRecorder.  (I tried burning at 2x, 4x and 6x)
My driver is dvd rw/cd rw.
My comp is only 2.5 years old. --> don't NEED to update the driver.
My computer recognizes the blank disk, and I start the program to write to the disk, it says starting to write, and then it just ejects the disk.
The error for free easy CD/DVD burner 3.8 is "invalid address for write."

Is the problem just having bad dvd's and cd's?

I am looking for software that I can CONVERT email addresses from a SCANNED document into some sort of text image that I can paste to Excel or word pad. I tried CVista pdfcompressor but didn't have much luck with that.

I am using a Brother 7420 all in ONE scanner printer.The Brother scanner should have a OCR PROGRAM.

Whjile you are using the crop tool, you should see a status BAR showing what is the NEW pixel size you have selected and a number the gives the aspect. Your want EITHER 1.29 or 1.4 for the print sizes you gave. 

I was wondering if there is some FREE software that will ENABLE the SMART monitoring on my hard drive. My Bios doesn't allow it to be enabled. I was installing Photoshop CS3 Extended, during installation I was creating a BACKUP for a restore point. Then when I restarted my comp. it just so happen to tell me that I have to restore my comp. from a restore point, so I did. Now Photoshop CS3 Extended in installed incompletely. Whenever I TRY to re-install or uninstall it, the setup window won't even pop up. Plsss..... HELP ME.(I KNOW this was very NOOBish so I don't want to hear it from anyone)Did the install write any entries to the registry?

No installation required.
Simply unzip Autoruns.zip file, and double click on autoruns.exe file to run the program.
Go File>Save As, and save AutoRuns.txt file to know location.

Re-do, please.No i ran autoruns.exe not autorunsc.exe, which is a command prompt.I'm sure, you didn't, because your file is almost 7MB big, and normally, AutoRuns.txt shouldn't be bigger than 100-200kB.
Besides, it's nor readable. It displays garbage. I know this happens, when you run wrong file.can you show me what the txt file should contain? The txt file I sent you is suppose to be an .arn file. If you look in Autoruns folder, you see two almost identical files: autoruns.exe, and  autorunsc.exe.
The only difference is letter "s".

I USUALLY use Eudora, but recently installed outlook 2000 so I could give a friend some help.  I didn't realise the default installation downloads email without asking me, AND removes mail from the server.  I have worked out how to keep things on the server, but cannot work out how to import the email to Eudora.

I have given Eudora the address of the .pst file, but the Import didn't work.  Maybe the .pst file is not at C:\Documents and settings\xxxx\local settings\application data\microsoft\outlook\Does Eudora show Outlook as one of the sources from which it can import messages?  If not, what type files will it import?In Eudora, Files>Import asks me to "select the account I would like to import", & lists as OPTIONS Outlook Express (which is not installed), & Microsoft Outlook.  I states it will import mail, address book & personalities.  Choosing that imports no messages.

If I choose Advanced the options are the above 2 plus Netscape Messenger (also not installed).  This SCREEN also asks me to locate the .pst file, which I did, as shown in my original message.  This option also imported no messages, though there are a number of messages in Outlook.OK, forget this INQUIRY folks, I have now found where Eudora stored the messages after importing them.

Page 3 had two lines on it. I deleted two lines from page 1.

I expected the two lines from page 3 to move to page 2. They didn't.

Do you know why?

 Its not alwaya a one-for-one EXCHANGE. You may have some formatting somewhere in the document that is holding up the move of the last 2 lines.

Take a LOOK at the setting for the spacing between lines to CLOSE up the text a little and bring the other lines up onto page 2

I purchased a new laptop which had a trial version of MS Ofice.  I also purchased a copy of MS Office Home and Student.  I uninstalled trial version (it SAID "Uninstall successful"), installed my new PRODUCT (Installation successful").  When I TRY to start MS Office now, it still notates "Trial version" and tells me it will expire in a few DAYS.  I run Windows Vista.  What causes this to occur?Do you go through the online registration procedure for your new Office software?And how exactly did you uninstall the Trial ver. ? ?

This isn't a huge pressing Issue, but one i've been trying to figure out for AWHILE now:

Basically I have Ventrilo on a external hard-drive, and take my hard-drive to many places (using random computers); however, I have to re-type the vent contact INFO each and every time. (I have the actual vent soft-ware saved and installed to my external hardrive. I just have to double click the vent.exe and it runs) However it doesn't register that i've ever used it before, or the contact info. I was wondering where it was saving said info, and how do i get it so it can all be done off of my external?

RIGHT now i just have a word DOCUMENT on my external, that i have all my vent data on, so I atleast still have it.

any help would be appreciated

Hi..trying to help someone  here.

This person had M.Outlook  2003, then installed 2007  recently.Worked fine,then
started to act up and now she cant even get her updates to work.

She then installed Ultimate 2007, which will not work  either.This is a mess.
Ultimate keeps saying that I need msi or xml  files and Im not sure what to do next.

I am trying to remove outlook 2007  through add/remove and it starts and then says there
is an error and cant be removed.

Her OS is windows xp SP3.


Can anyone help me  with this?

Also, this woman received the Ultimate discs from Microsoft itself, 2 discs and they send her a Disc 1,
which is a dvd and disc 2,  which is a cd.

Now her dell only has a cd rom drive.So MS screwed up there.

I dont even know where to go with this.

I just need to know how to get rid of OL 2007, and then install Ultimate.

Microsoft Outlook 2003 is part of Microsoft's Office Suite 2003.  Revo Uninstaller removed that part of the Office Suite of 2003.

Office 2007 is totally separate of Office 2003.  Office 2003 has to be uninstalled before Office 2007 can be installed....understand?

Once you uninstall Office 2003, you should be able to proceed with the installation of Ultimate 2007.  Use the discs she received to install the NEW product.  Of course, should you come across any errors during the install of Ultimate 2007, please...let us know, verbatim, what these errors are.

Also, can you please provide us with a screenshot of your desktop so we can look at these Office Ultimate files you are referring to...

Also,  as stated before....I believe this woman downloaded from MS, the ultimate suite.
She couldnt get it to go, so she requested the discs.  Now, she has an older dell with Compact disc only.
MS sent her two discs, Disc 1 is a dvd which wont play and the second is a cd.

I informed her of this and she just stated its ALREADY on the computer so it shouldnt be a problem.

So, Im lost on how to help her.

added note...I downloaded a trial version of Microsoft office from the MS website.  It downloaded fine, the file is

I DOUBLE click on it to install  and nothing happens. Wont open at all.

You're missing my point.  Outlook is just a part of the Office Suite.  You have to uninstall and re-install the whole Office Suite...not just Outlook.  You're trying to replace a 2003 version with a 2007 version.

Uninstall the entire 2003 Office Suite...and then uninstall the 2007 Office Suite.

Then re-install the 2007 Office Suite.

Go into Add/Remove Programs and uninstall Microsoft Office.  If you encounter any errors during this process, use Revo Uninstaller to uninstall Microsoft Office.

Then use the discs she received in order to re-install her new product.  If she paid for this, she should have a product key.

Good day all, I've come across a strange file on/not on my computer. 

I found an unfamiliar LINK doing a clean up of my WMP library. So I CLICKED on it and a song played. I clicked on it's properties, and it showed me a file name I can't explain :

I can't find that file anywhere on the computer, neither can my computer find it.

When I paste the address into explorer address bar, it brings up WMP and starts playing that song. It plays even when I'm not connected to the internet, so it's living somewhere on my system.

What is it, where does it live etc?

I use Win xp pro sp3. My setup is not wireless.

Any help would be appreciated.

Question: if I'm not connected to the internet, and my file search can't find the file on my computer, meaning it's not in my computer, how can this file play? In other words, if it's coming from outside my computer, ie internet, how does it WORK if I'm not connected?
What's more, I'd like to delete it from my computer, if it's there, but I can't find it. Makes me think what else is sitting in my computer that I can't see or find

I agree with Kpac. It would be stored on your computer somewhere. However, once I restarted, I can no longer play the file without internet connection.
Unplugged my internet cable. I then tried it on another computer without internet, and it couldn't find the file.
