Hello, I installed Windows 95 in Virtual PC and whenever I change the resolution, it works perfectly, but when I change the COLOR depth to 32-bit, the cursors "hotspot" (part you click with) is totally out of line with the cursor itself (i.e. 1 1/2 inches to the left of the cursor.) How can I change the SETTINGS so I will be able to get the most out of the display?

Hi! I am looking for a free instant messenger program. I had AIM back in the day, but I got fed up with AOL, got rid of it all, and haven't had any kind of messenger since. Any suggestions? Are there any good programs compatible with AIM?

I have been wondering what the heck is running on my task manager and why? What can I "end process" to quicken the computer up a bit ? I stumbled across this today in a magazine- Smart Computing Sept 2006 "Exploring Your SYSTEM"

A simple question:  Can I use Partition Magic 3.0 to RESIZE partitions in Windows XP?

I BOUGHT this program years ago, and used it successfully on my old computer.  I now need to use it on a new PC.  I'll upgrade if necessary, but if the old version will still do the job, I'd rather do it that way.  Any THOUGHTS?Yes.

Hi everyone,

I've been swearing at my laptop for the last 2 hours trying to sot what is probably a very simple PROBLEM, before I feed it to the oven, can someone help:

I’ve got a grid of data on EXCEL stating the results of a staff survey. Each member of the team has been marked 1-4 (1=good, 4=bad ect) on 18 separate questions.

What I now want to do is be able to collate this data and get excel to tell me how many 1's 2's 3's and 4's there are in each separate column. From this I can then (hopefully) make a nice graph to send upstairs so that the boss can easily see the results.

Is there a function that will allow me to do this or should I give up and go home?!?

Any help would be brilliant!

i am shortly changing jobs and my boss has asked me to set up outlook 2002 so that after i leave emails received to my address are automatically forwarded on to the boss.

i would prefer my personal emails to not be forwarded along with everything else, so is there a way i can do this?

i currently use rules wizard so that personal emails are sent to one folder, so does anyone know how i can forward only emails that are not in this folder? or, could i block all email addresses that i deem personal? i've looked into this, but it appears to only send them to the junk email folder, which is no use to me if outlook forwards on this folder as well.

obviously, i am unable to experiment, without drawing attention WITHIN the office to what i am attempting! the advice i have found on the internet RELATES to Outlook Express rather than 2002.

it's true that i have used rules wizard to get my mail set up as it currently is, but it's my understanding that the wizard only kicks in when i open my outlook. so if i'm not here to open it (as i won't be), then would the rules i've set up become redundant? in other words, am i right in saying that all mail would be forwarded (rather than just certain mail subject to the rules i set)?

in which case, do you think i would be able to block domains or certain email addresses? that is, as opposed to setting them up as junk senders which would run the rule only when my outlook is opened, stopping them from getting through to be forwarded in the first place? i'm not concerned about current emails, but future ones.
No.  the rules are set on the server, so regardless if you log in to download your mail, the rules are already applied.  If you tell the server to forward in a rule, it will do so there.  I don't know about forwarding by domain name, but I suggest you go in and explore your options.  See what you have to work with.Why not use OE for personal email?  Or, if you are going to access personal email at work, just use a webmail access, i.e. access your email by web browser, and only download personal email to your computer at home. hello, I've looked over the internet all morning, but cannot LOCATE any info on whether or not it's possible to only print one banner page when printing multiple copies of an excel sheet.  In MS Word, you can print one document of 30 pages and receive only 1 banner page, yet if you take an excel document or anything else which is contained as a single unit, you receive a banner page for however many copies you want to print.  Is there anyway to designate a number of copies to be printed under only one banner page?

anyone?The term "banner page" seems odd, when talking about Excel.  Exactly what do you mean?  Do you want to print a header on the first sheet or on all sheets?sorry.. no, I was SPEAKING of the banner page you can attach when dealing with the print driver.  And I should make it a bit more clear that this happens with mulitiple software programs.. it's not really an Excel issue.  I was just making an example.  The banner page is the blank page with your name on it that prints just PRIOR to every print job.  The problem is, when you print an excel sheet, or any other item which is contained within itself, you receive that banner page for every copy you choose to print.  The difference is in a document like MS Word, where all pages are contained within the original document, therefore only prints one banner page.  I guess the real problem is, that my boss is upset that he is wasting resources by printing 30 pages of an excel sheet and receiving 30 banner pages.

I hope that makes it a bit more clear.  - Anyone know how to print 30 copies of an excel sheet with only one banner page?

Thanks!What about canceling the banner page altogether?  Is that possibly an option?  Thanks... but if I do that... we'd have a hundred and fifty user's worth of documents all bunched together with no idea of who's is who's.  I told my boss it's just not an option.  So that's why I'm asking the world.  Interesting question.  I wish I knew the answer.  I can't even get my PERSONAL printer to print separator pages.  I see where I can to go printer Properties and select a separator page, but my printer simply has not recognized it so far.

Obviously, you're in an environment with a networked printer.  I think you may have some difficulty gettting an answer to this; I think it's an unusual and complicated problem.  You might try http://www.excelforum.com/.  What about the printer manufacturer, do they have a support forum on their site?  

A Google search, of course, turns up some info, such as SHARED printer separator page for Windows 2000 and Windows XP.  I see there are different types of separator pages.  Have you experimented any with that?Thank you for the more indepth suggestions, I will continue to look as well as try all of your suggestions.

I am trying to help a friend so this is not my computer and this is all the info I have.
She has Win 2000 with a dial up connection. The home page comes up OK, and she can type in a url and go there and she can click on a url from the favorites and go there. BUT when a web page is up, if she clicks on a link or picture on the page, it acts like it is working but doesn't go anywhere. Also, when she is in her email and clicks on a message to open it, it does the same thing.
Any thoughts appreciated.
Thank you.It sounds like you have a popup blocker installed.  Do you see any messages at the top of the browser?I asked and she said the only message is something about a parse. She will check at home (we're at work now) for exact WORDING and I will let you know. Or MAYBE that is all you need.Try HOLDING the CTRL key before clicking any links.  Or you can right-click and open new window.OK, these didn't work.
She says she gets several messages while trying to link, was not sure of exact wording but things like

She's got a spyware bug.  If you have a good spyware remover, use that, otherwise download something like Ad-aware 6.0, Spybot S&D, or another free program from Download.com.

I have moved all my emails from my old desk top pc (98) to my new Laptop (XP) and wanted to archive the old ones. On the desk top pc all my archived emails were automatically moved to a folder called not surprisingly Archive Folder plus all my subfolders and this was always on show in the Folders List pane. I have tried to Archive my Inbox emails and this all appeared to happen as I would expect (message on Tool bar said it was archiving) but no folder appeared in the Folders List and I am not able to see them.

I believe I know where they are but this also has presented me with a problem,

If I go to FILE, ARCHIVE I can see a path in the Archive File box and if I click on the Browse button it takes me to

Save in: OUTLOOK and there is a file Archive - I assume they are in this file.

As I can see the path I thought I should be able to trace this through My Computer but I can't, I can get to

C:
Documents and SETTING/
My name/

and next should be Local Settings/Application Data/Microsoft/Outlook/Archive.pst but I fail to find Local Setting or Application Data even when I do a search.


I hope someone may be able to help, I do appreciate any input.

My problem was not being able to find the Archived file as XP TREATS such files as hidden which I did not know now I do I have checked 'show all hidden files' and I have been able to Import the emails back into Outlook.  However, I still have one problem, I expected the archived emails to appear within a folder named Archived as I had with '98 and this did not happen.

What I got was another set of Inbox and Sent ITEM folders which are below the current in use ones.

When AutoArchive took place the older emails were moved to the Archive Folder and subfolders and were easily ACCESSED but separate from my current emails.

The simple way to solve this would be to rename the Imported Folder as Archive and drag it to the top of the Folders List Pane but of course Outlook will not allow this.

I am sorry if this is not very clear; I am a novice and have tried very hard to sort this out.

Help is always appreciated.

Yes.. what you see is correct.  Outlook archives your mail into a separate file outside your mailbox.  When you open that file, it appends it below as you noted.  If you want your files back in your mailbox, just select the files you want and drag them to a designated folder.  you will not see your archive folder in your mailbox.

At least 64MB of RAM (256MB is more realistic)
At least 1.8GB of free hard disk space (SP2 is about 75MB, but apparently needs 1.8GB to install)

For administrative rights, logon as a user defined as adminstrator. Did you download SP2 from the Windows Update site or did you get a full copy from WinXP SP2. The file might be corrupt.

Check your device manager. Ensure there are no yellow question marks or exclamation points. Do a full scan with your AV and AntiSpyware software and cleanup your machine if necessary.

Let us know how you make out.  8-)

Not sure about installing SP2 in safe mode. I would SUGGEST against it as all your attached devices may not be recognized by the OS.

also be sure to check with your computer manufacturer web site most pc's need certain updates before sp2 will work right with your pc.What is the error message you get when you try to install it?again unspecified problems...

I use IE, and when I'm on some sites (usually free PHPBB forum sites) I get a message saying 'Internet Explorer has to close'.

I have done an AVG scan and downloaded Google Toolbar, both to no avail.

It's been like this for a number of days now, and I've also found that pages on Youtube don't LOAD. These problem occur on both IE and AOL 9.0, however Firefox seems to be working fine. Darren........ Quote

.....I did something absolutely stupid. I was fooling around on the computer looking for the "add/remove programs" section in the start bar menu, and I instead misread and clicked on "Set Program Access and Defaults". I clicked on "custom" configuration, (which is not what I was after now that I think about it). I then clicked OK, not knowing what I was getting into...

Anyways, I can't use any software! I can't EVEN use system restore to undo my stupid mistake! It won't even re-open the "Program Access and Defaults" window again so I can re-configure back to its original settings. Everytime I try to click on an application shortcut icon (which by the way are "broken" images - not showing the designated icons for each programs), it says:

"this file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Create an association in the Folder Options control panel."

When I tried to do this, I found a confusing list of file types (and associations) listed in the third tab, and the button for "add new" was inactive (grey). So I couldn't even create associations for the programs/files!!

I can't use anything, except for the internet window (Thank goodness for Mozilla). I'm worried none of the other applications are working properly now (esp. Norton AntiVirus), as all the programs I click on have the same crap about "files does not have a program associated with it for performing this action...".

Please help!!!!!! I'm desperate!! I just want everything back the way it was, back to default, WIPE the slate clean!

I figured maybe I should try set up or something, but I'm worried if I go through set-up I will lose files already on the computer and that it won't just re-install operating system defaults.

  I should add that I have Windows XP home edition. Please, I am a student and I cannot afford to just buy another computer, and other people use this computer Boot into Safe Mode, if you can, (tape F8 when computer boots) and try a system restore from there.

Alan <><    Still no luck! I followed your instructions however when I got to the system restore, it opened up a blank window (it had the window header title "System Restore" but it was just all blank white!

Now it won't open the control panels window when I try to access it from there, even though I have changed nothing.

I also tried something else from the boot menu I clicked ENTER on "Last working configuration" but that didn't help either, it just showed it as it already is - with all the software shortcut icons showing "inactive" images (except Firefox internet and hotmail shortcut links).

As far as my limited computer understanding goes, I've done some SERIOUS crap to program/file associations, and attempting to manually run programs doesn't work. The programs are still there, I just can't access them. But I think the reason I can still access Firefox and hotmail quick links/software is probably because they were OK'd in the custom configuration settings (for program access and defaults), however the other programs are just left out in the dark.

I think I need to try to reset the program access/defaults configuration to windows configuration, but HOW???

Would it help if I could get my Windows XP CD and re-install or something?? I couldn't see anything helpful in the set-up menu when booting.......

Press Windows + R to bring up the Run menu. (Windows key = the flag key between Ctrl & Alt)
In the Open: field, type C:\WINDOWS\system32\control.exe to bring up the Control Panel.

Most other things are not opening any way I try to open them either with run prompt, clicking on the icon etc. So system restore is out and everything else. "Open With..." does not show up when I right-click on application icons. Can you name any of the contents of this file/folder :-?Not much to go on, maybe the catalyst files for an ATI video card.....?There is File Backup data and ATI.ACC folders in it.

I would really love it if some one would give me step by step instructions on how to change a FILES types. and just not their exentions. I need to know how to turn a VRO file in a MOV file.
The Eisiest and not the SMART way of doing it is.. Open my computer.. and at the top go to Tools and select FOLDER Options and select   the View Tab and then find the check box that says "Hide Extensions for known file types" you need to uncheck that option and then go to your file that Right click on the mouse and select the Rename and then just change the file extension.. for example..

Origional File: Baraborn.vro
Changed File: Barbaron.mov
and click enter..and it the file name changes.. sometime it works. and sometimes it doesnt.. so its a fifty fifty chance..Don't know of any free prog which will do that but:

Step 1.  Prepare to PART with a few dollars ($30 or so)
Step 2.  Google for 'convert vro to mov'
Step 3.  Select a suitable download site from 32,000.
Step 4.  Pay your dollars and download a chunk of software.
Step 5.  Install and run the software.

I am wondering if there is an easy way to EMAIL, or create a distibution list for all contacts under a certian category without having to select each MEMBER one at a time?

Need HELP!Looking at Outlook 2003 Contacts here.  Click on the drop arrow next to New and select Distribution List.  I know how to make a distribution list, i was just wondering if there was a way to make the list based on the catagories i have created for my contacts. I.E. SALES, clients, friends, ect. without having to select each contact individually to create the new distribution list.I believe the answer is yes.  Clearly, you select more than one contact in a Contacts folder by using the Shift key or Ctrl key.  Do you know how to do that?Use the "GROUP by category" feature.  See the View menu.

photoshop used to automatically FIX this, but it's been a while since i've used it. can anyone help me?The answer is to do with colour PROFILES.  Have a look in Photoshop's Help for more info - or try a Photoshop forum, perhaps?  I don't tend to use Photoshop myself, prefering the free (open source) alternatives.

Possibly SOMEONE else here MAY be able to provide more help.

however when i try to load paint up it COMES up with

then the error report.

i TRIED looking for some solutions, like going onto regedit

it then said to delete paint but paint is not there on mine,

i also tried to use ADD + remove programs,
the program uninstalled and reinstalled but when i tried to load it the same happened again

By "add + remove programs", do you mean Add/Remove Windows Components?sorry, yes i mean add remove windows components.

when i run safe mode paint works so it leads me to believe that it is a system driver that is causing the problem.What makes you think a debug button is going to be of any help?!

I'm afraid I don't know how to fix your problme, other than to do a repair Windows installation.  But if you follow the software link in my signature, and look for Paint.NET, you'll find a superior program you can download and use instead.  It's quite good!

You can create a macro with the program Autohotkey and have it type the text for you when you press a specified key on the keyboard.

Otherwise, you can simply copy the text and press CTRL + V at the end of the entered data.

Most likely, you have some version of both installed.  To see whether you have Java installed, go to your Control Panel and look for Java.  You will see an icon there if you have it installed.  It will also appear in your Control Panel\Programs and Features list.

Java normally prompts users to update.  Have you ever seen an alert or PROMPT telling you an update to Java is available?  If you do have it installed (again, look in your Control Panel), you can see what version you have by opening the Java panel (by double clicking on the icon) and clicking on About.

did i do this correctly? both are now listed in control panel "programmes and features" but flash player has no size specification  ; Java has 94 MB...

I have just purchased an ACER 6920 BLU RAY Laptop when i use Windows Media Player a message comes up saying running low on memory quit programme and try again .
My acer says i have 107 gb out of 144gb LEFT and in another drive called Data (D) 137 free out of 137 in other words not used. What is wrong ?
I hope you understand this i am a novice when it comes to PROBLEMS like this so i hope its something simple.

ShaunWhen it says low on memory, it means RAM, which BASICALLY stores information about running programs and stuff.  Hard drive is the thing that stores all the program files and music and stuff.  That message is talking about your ram.  A brand new laptop shouldn't be having these problems.  I would say to just return it.  Imagine you're sitting at a desk with file cabinet drawers.  The RAM is like the top of the desk.  The drawers are your hard drives, which store files and applications and information.  Pull a file out of the drawer and put it on the desktop.  Open the file.  (This is like opening a program or file or picture.)  You now have a little less available space on the desktop.  So the file or program you've opened uses up a little bit of the RAM which helps run all the stuff GOING on with the computer.

You should not run out of RAM so easily.  Were you running other software when you opened Media Player?  Do you know how much RAM is on the computer?  What operating system is on the computer?I have 3 GB of ram on the computer Intel(r)core(TM)duo CPU [email protected],ogh 32 bit operating system if that makes sense.
I purchased this second hand it was only 2 months old i have rebooted it to start with because it wouldn't play Blu rays now it does , there must be something wrong because there is hardly anything on it. the 2 drives i see on my computer is DATA which as nothing in it 137GB free out of 137GB and another one with 107 GB free out of 144GB this one as a windows emblem over it. so according to that i have 244 GB spare , why do i have 2 separate instead of 1 ? i am very confused.How long ago did you buy this laptop? I still haven't purchased a PC. I have no room in my cramped apartment for a PC so I'd like to get a laptop. The problem is that I have difficulty using the laptops' touchpad. I was told that all laptops can be connected to a REGULAR keyboard and mouse. Is this true? Maybe it's only true for certain brands. If true, where would I connect the keyboard and mouse into the laptop? I've surfed the internet for years but have no knowledge about hooking-up a home PC. Do laptops all come with detailed instructions about how to hook-up. I know I have to get a router as I have no WiFi in my area.As far as I know, every laptop can be USED with a mouse.
You can plug it in just like a USB.

See, the United Nations have these internal personal history profiles (PHP) that you fill out on their site. When you apply for a position, these get sent to the appropriate body. So, someone has asked me to send them my PHP as a separate entity. I was told that I needed to act as though I wanted to print this file but then print to PDF instead. I have TRIED this dozens of times and the results still elude me. I have a new version of Adobe 9.0 I am able to upload REGULAR files from my documents, etc. but I to turn the PHP into a PDF?...it just doesn't seem to happen.

I have been using it for years without 1 single issue.

I don't get this at all. I left my computer running Folding and another programme all day then when I came back to my computer without me starting it DosBox had kicked in with the following pic. Then it WOULD at first not let me save the picture of the screen. Any ideas what could of caused this? I've run a quick Norton scan and it came back clean....

I have a HDD that was formatted in DR Dos by a PVR. Since I need more free space, I tried to download some FILES but windows does not recognize DR Dos format. Is there any way to read the DISK with out FORMATTING it in Fat32 or other partition compatible with windows?

I have downloaded a .avi video file.
I cant  play the video file using many of the media players ( The KMPlayer, K-lite codec , windows media , vlc )

The file extension is changed to .001 for the first file and .002 for the sencond

file....etc instead of .avi as mention in the website.

The file that I have downloaded has copy rights. I am not aware of this before.

how would "copyrights" ISSUES cause "unknown format" messages? Generally "unknown format" means- "unknown format".


a spanned ZIP  archive can be opened with a number of ZIP programs, and it's contents extracted.


However- since this is a spanned set my first question would be to inquire as to the legitimacy of your quest....001, .002 files are split up files. So use a program that can join it together, usually I use HJSplit but other programs like winzip or 7 zip can work as per this website ihere: http://www.binaries4all.com/001/

So join them together and you get one standard file, if you can't play the joined file, then something's wrong with it.There is a software called Video Redo
It seems to read lots of TYPES of video.

(1) how do i restore to a different computer that has a different hard drive interface?

my computer backup has been made on my laptop with a IDE hard drive 

I have a desktop that has a SATA hard drive and when i restore the TIB file to it get a blue screen stop error
"STOP: 0x0000007b (0xf78a6528, 0xc0000034, 0x00000000, 0x00000000)"

i have tried it the other way around too...making a backup with my SATA drive (desktop)(same xp pro manually installed) and then trying to restore it to the laptop (IDE) (this gives me the same blue screen) (safe mode loads the xp boot files and then i get the same blue screen.

(2)how do i get it to have it when i am whiping out the laptops drive with the backup?

(3 IMPORTANT QUESTION) what is an alternative program or way to allow me to restore my backup to any hard drive and to any interface.

Your image contains all the drivers...etc. for the laptop itself...unlikely that once restored to a Desktop that the machine will even boot up.

If you have an original Windows CD however there is a workaround...
Grab one of these...

Install the laptop drive to the Desktop machine. Use the desktop HDD FREE software to "clone" the laptop drive to the Desktop.
Then boot to the XP CD and do a REPAIR Install of XP
This will allow the desktop to boot to the laptop install

Note: you will lose all data on the Desktop machine
Note #2 you will need to re-install the drivers for the desktop machinemy questions are in red

ok that would be an option....my current sata to usb adapter could do that fine....although there is one problem....my laptop as compared to some new "netbooks" has a FIXED drive....my laptop though is not new at all...its a dell latitude c640.

it's drive isn't really fixed it just has a wierd interface...

but my point is WITHOUT the proper adapter for every different hard drive interface the clone method will not work unless the computers hard drive can support the adapters...

but my interface again is not fixed but is not standard either...and neither is any "fixed" drive laptop....

i have heard ghost can copy all storage controllers (as acronis can) but ghost can implement them in the restore process when they are needed....is that true?...are there any other ways since my drive isn't the right interface?...

right now i am trying to load in my drivers for my desktops mass storage INF...standard vga INF...up to date nvidia INF...and chipset INF files into the restore process of acronis workstation. (this is when it prompts me to specify drivers to add into it.) ( and this is only with acronis universal restore implemented into workstation.) (before i tried it on the desktop with only the laptop drivers implemented and not the desktops....this is a possible answer to why it did not work.)

so trying the desktop drivers should work....don't you think?I don't know of any HDD laptop or desktop with a wierd interface...
Can you be more specific ? ?ok it looks like without even taking the hard drive out of my laptop and by looking at some pictures it tells me that my hard drive just had a connector adapter on it.....so my bad  ...i would insert the pics but when i insert pic it shows this: "img][/img"

BUT you guys have been much more responsive and i would like to see if you have any further thoughts with acronis universal restore.....trust me im not trying to make this repetitious but here are my remaining problems:

1.) during the restore process acronis universal restore asks me where are the inf drivers. and i tell it where they are.

2.) acronis also asks me to specify where to search just for mass storage inf drivers on the following page. i tell it.

3.) acronis then trys to restore the image and has two separate errors....(can't find the "jraid.sys" and "pciidex.sys") when each error window appears i tell it to find the file and it continues...

4.) now, after it continues the restore process it goes to the main screen of acronis and tells me the operation completed with errors (ok no big deal why?, because i told it where they were at which point it continued restoring everytime.)

5.) ok now it just said completed with errors (errors being the drivers not found right away) it did not say it failed.

because it did complete and i did give it all its INF files (video, mass storage, chipset, etc.) i believe windows should be restored (from the laptops backup file) to the desktop perfectly fine.

NOPE i get either a blank black screen and the desktop idles.....or on another attempt ill get a blue screen with the same stop error: "STOP: 0x0000007b (0xf78a6528, 0xc0000034, 0x00000000, 0x00000000)"

again i am working with acronis as well and any other help will be great from you guys.

I was cleaning my hard drive yesterday and I deleted some folders of uncessary files. I think that I may have accidentally deleted a folder that contained computer icons. When I found out it was too late, I had already emptied my recycling bin.
All my icons look like:

Some of the program icons, imaging icons (png, jpeg, etc.), and audio icons looked just like the ICON above.

I tried to restore my computer to the settings it had before USING System Restore, but it didn't work.

Hope it works. Another thing to note, if you do an in-place upgrade (upgrade to same version of windows you have), the installer should repair any bad/corrupted system files.

Well, I've been told many times that you could just take the windows upgrade cd, and let's say you have windows ultimate and you tell the installer to upgrade to windows ultimate again, it should repair corrupt system files on the pc.

Never had to do that, but that's what I've been told.

I'm a little baffled by this hope someone can point me in the right direction. In Control Panel, under Add/Remove programs there is a program that I don't remember installing called SimulationExams.com A+ Essentials (it might have been PART of CertBlaster,a program I know for a FACT I installed) but CertBlaster has its own spot in Add/Remove programs to uninstall it.  At any rate, when I try to uninstall it I get an ERROR that says:

could not open LOGFILE 'C:\programfiles\simulationexams\ST6UNST.log

So I navigate over to that directory and don't see "simulationexams" anywhere...I go to folder options to show hidden files, still NOTHING...

When I google for this problem, I don't find muchMost likely, empty registry entry.

I have been editing a .rtf text document. Some page breaks have appeared where they were not intended. For example, there are CASES where one line appears on a page. Many of these problems have cropped up as I have been inserting some indicators like {begin quote}. I have tried to remove them manually as recommended in Help by using the Delete key. That is not working.Go to Tools-->Options-->View.  Under "formatting marks", check the "All" box and click OK.  You will then see an indication where all page breaks (and other special characters) OCCUR.  These won't APPEAR on any print out.  Uncheck the "All" box to hide the marks again.I did what was suggested. The page breaks appeared as dotted lines in the Normal View, together with the line break symbols etc. This did not help me but when I CLICKED the All off, the problem went away. I am mystified but thanks for the INFO.

I used to have this Nero burn files to CDR when I'm using XP.  I'm now using Vista and want to burn files to this CDR but it seems not working properly.  The CDR was burnt using multisession and hasn't been finalised.  I'm sure there're still SPACE for files to be burnt.  What can I do to burn files to this CDR?Make sure that when burning close any other programs. CAUSE this might make your burned CD not that good.Do you still have Nero INSTALLED?  If not, you could TRY InfraRecorder or one of the other free burning utilities.  I suspect they'll do a more competent job than Vista's built-in routines.Here's what I use...

How do you put that blue thing in MS Word? Does it have to be done in later versions of Word?

         It is just a 'comment' in MS Word. Highlight some part of the text, go 'Insert' menu and click 'Comment'. It adds a balloon with Your user name so You can add/edit text in it.

Hope you can HELP me.

Ive currently got a user having issues with word documents on her profile, Say the document contains a few small pictures e.g. Logos and Badges and also a digital copy of a signature and a few lines of text the document would be roughly in size 300kb.

However when the user goes back in and say delete all the pictures and signature and then saves the document again the document increases too roughly 400kb.

The following options I have sent the user did not work: -
File > properties > Summary tab > Uncheck Save Preview Picture
Tools > Options > Save Tab > Uncheck Allow Fast Saves
File > Versions > Uncheck Automatically save a version on close
Tools > Options > Save Tab > Uncheck embed TrueType fonts

I have been sent a copy of this document and I dont have this problem, Was thinking to delete the NORMAL.DOT file however was unsure if this would resolve the issue?

Thanks again.First, if you have INSTALLED the the microsoft office software by yourself via install disc, I would try reinstalling it to see if problem go away. Um I suppose that is a possible fix, however id say its abit extreme to just rebuild the machine with a fresh copy of office 2003.

If I get no answers I might have to resort to a re-install of office.

I think this is it, I just fixed a 5M DOC to 360K.

Access File/Versions, clear the checkbox at the top and delete all the
versions inside the box one-by-one. In my case, I had to close the doc
and reopen it to get rid of all the versions. Theres also an icon that
looks like a pile of paper next to the "save" icon at the bottom of
the screen, that takes you directly to the version dialog.

If this still doesn't work I'm stumped!

I can't install Java 6 update 13, because I can't UNinstall update 7.  I'm getting a 25099 error that it can't unzip the files.  I went to that error diagnostics PAGE at the Java site and did ALL of the remedies they recommended incl. the following:

1.)I looked in the Services for the jqs.exe service, but it wasn't listed.
2.)I ran the net stop "Java Quick Starter" at the cmd prompt, but only got the msg.
“System Error 1060 has occurred.
The specified service does not exist as an installed service.”

I finally went to the Cntrol Pnl after installing, and running the Windows Install Clean Up utility to uninstall Java 6 update 7. It doesn't show anymore, but I still get the same original 25099 error.

• Run JavaRa.exe, pick the language of your choice and click Select. Then click Remove Older Versions.
  
• Accept any prompts. A log will appear (JavaRa.log), please post the contents of this log on the forum.
• Open JavaRa.exe again and select Search For Updates.
  
• Select Update Using SUN Java's Website then click Search and click on the Open Webpage button. Download and install the latest Java Runtime ENVIRONMENT (JRE) version for your computer.

Hi Friends!!

Some days BACK it(Windows Unused Desktop Icons clean up Wizard) accidently appeared on turning ON the machine & I put it OFF intinctively!

Now, I feel the need for the same. Is there a way to provoke that Screen again ASKING me to REMOVE unused Desktop icons!!?

R.Click desktop, SELECT Arrange Icons By, Run Desktop Cleanup Wizard.
