Solve : BSoD/Stop screen - enethusb.sys - usb modem?

Answer»

Hello everyone,

I have been experiencing what seems to be random BSoD's due to enethusb.sys which i beleive is linked to my usb MODEM.

The Blue screens seem to appear at unusual times, it is not always when using the internet or even having anything to do with the device other than it just being plugged in and turned on.

INFO:

Error code 1000007e, parameter1 c0000005, parameter2 f79c5c12, parameter3 f7af6648, parameter4 f7af6344.

enethusb.sys

Address F79C5C12 base at F79C3000 Date Stamp 3e3b1000

Any help on how to solve this would be great!

By random i mean that one day it will not happen and then one day it will with difference in what software is used or plug and play devices are used. Its annoying because it makes a good relable PC into a unreliable one.Did you try to reinstall the driver?Prevx reports it as possible malware but that's not definitive enough...
Whose modem ? ?The usb modem is SIEMENS Speed stream.Driver Link.So your THINKING to reinstall the driver?

I can't find it on the site you linked me to. The model is 4100/4200.Click on "Product Finder" drop down menu.Yeah but where is the driver link once i do that? Sorry i think i'm bind today. No, you're not blind...
Actually you will not find it on Siemens driver website because according to Siemens: The 4100 Ethernet model works with any Ethernet equipped PC, regardless of operating system.
Read more here: http://cr.am/framed.php?url=http%3A%2F%2Fjedi-star.com%2Findex.php%2Fspeedstream-42004100-or-drivers-for-speedstream-42004100%2F&ref=driverguideYeah see thats what annoys me because i have been using it (usb wise) in my laptop for a year no problems, (i use the ethernet cable for the PC) ANYWHO recently it has been causing BSoD's at times that don't seem normal.

Maybe my USB ports have had the Richard, sometimes things disconnect with only a small movement, but something just disconnecting shouldn't cause a blue screen anyway...

Maybe i should just buy a ethernet hub and be done with the usb VERSION you think? It may be WORTH to try. Definitely, there is something wrong there.

Solve : XP Freezes at startup or reboot unless I beat on it.?

Answer»

I am running XP and when I start up or reboot I GET to the Windows screen with the blue bar scrolling across the screen,  It will scroll across for a while & then freeze up.

If I go TV old school & slap the sides of the CPU as it goes through this process it will boot up & I'm good to go.

I could do without the Gene Krupa ROUTINE on every start up.

HELP?I would remove a side panel and carefully remove and re-seat all components...make sure the heatsink/fan combo is secure and do some general housekeeping.
Use a can of compressed air...do NOT use a vacuum !

As always when working inside the case remove all power SOURCES and take anti-static precautions...

Replace all components and hook up the power and power up.
Leave a side panel off for now to be able to check if all FANS are functioning...You should not Beat on your Computer.

Solve : Issues with windows explorer??

Answer»

I am cleaning up an old system that I have.

WinXP home

768 RAM

Windows explorer acts sluggish.  the flashlight icon appears for about 5 seconds when I open "my computer"

When I move the task manager window over firefox I get the "trails" effect that windows is notorious for and firefox jumps up to using 90% of my system resources!

I have run multiple virus SCANNERS, I have run spy bot and ad aware. I have run 3 separate registry CLEANERS and defragmented my drives.

Anyone know what could be going on? Have you ran disc clean up? I would do that as well as the defrag, that you have done.

Usually when i get computers like that i just do a clean install. If it's some old machine, why not a clean install of Windows?I did run disc clean up and I didnt have much of a change. Its not that old of a system the XP install is about 12 months old. I dont want to reinstall XP as that isnt really a "fix" nor would I learn anything.

I have included an image so that you can SEE how the process shoots up when I simply move the task manager around.

a program like firefox takes close to 30 seconds before it opens

I wouldn't think that it is the harddrive.

I have 13.4 gigs of free space and 5.57 gigs used using NTFS file system. I do not have indexing enabled.

http://img259.imageshack.us/img259/479/problembl0.jpgOk then, what is actually taking up the cpu usage in the processes tab?Firefox

hmm. . . . LET me completely remove it and reinstall it.

But that still may not solve the issue with windows explorer taking so long to RESPOND. Same issue after removing Firefox and running 2 registry cleaners (again)

I get the same problem with internet explorer

Solve : Fixing My Gateway GT4022 With Windows XP??

Answer»

Hello my name is Karina.  I bought Gateway GT4022 with Windows XP comp in 2006. It started ACTING up EVER since I was tricked into installing a virus scanner for vista in APRIL 2008.  I  deleted that program and there was no problems after that.  Then, I periodically check my programs on my c drive to delete excess programs and files.  Suddenly I see about 60-70 windows update that were not there before?  So I delete what I could immediately.  I assume I made a mistake because now the computer has very BIG pixels,(which i changed manually) and my log in screen does not show up any more, it takes me directly to my desktop.  It is small little things that  are annoying.  My window player does not play.  And there is still windows updates on my programs.  What should I do? What program virus or anything should I buy? Or is it something as SIMPLY as to system restore ( which will not allow me)?  Please Help me!

Solve : Run.dll Errors....?

Answer»

Hi! I'm new here, and I'm trying to see if I can help my brother in California SOLVE a problem he's recently encountered with his computer.

He was burning a disc a few days AGO, and when the burning program (Xilisoft) froze up (it had been stuck at 95% for close to 2 hours), he realized it was pretty obvious the disc failed its burn. He brought up Task Manager to END the program and EJECT the disc.

Now, each time he logs on to his account or his g/f's account, he's seeing windows pop up with these 2 messages:

Run.dll
Error loading c:\winows\irimivihaw.dll

Run.dll
Error loading c:\windows\fvuziwuvu.dll

I did a Google search, which is what I usually do when researching viruses, malware, etc., and couldn't find anything telling me what these indicate or how to get them repaired. Does anyone know what these mean, and what needs to be DONE in order to repair them?

Thank you.

Solve : How to convert a Word Document to a Works Document?

Answer»

I have enrolled in college after 35 years away.  My professor is posting all documents in Word form.   I have Works.  Can I convert them to open into Works?  Can anybody walk me through it step by step?  I have Word INSTALLED, but haven't "bought" the program (free trial that came on computer).  When I try to save the word document and change the save as, I don't get any options except Microsoft Word 97 and All Files. What version works and word?

I have Works 9.0.  I don't know how to tell what Word he is INJUST a heads up but as a Student you qualify for MS products including Office at a substantial discount...
Check the University Bookstore for details...
If it is coursework you will probably need Office anyways.

A FREE option would be Open Office which is Word/Office compatible. If you only need to read Word documents, you could download the free Word Viewer

"With Word Viewer and the Compatibility Pack, you can VIEW, print, and copy document contents to another program. However, you cannot edit an open document, save a document, or create a new document. This download is a replacement for Word Viewer 2003 and all previous Word Viewer versions."

But, if you want/need to be able to create and/or edit Word documents, I'd do as patio advised.  Academic pricing can save you a lot of money on MS Office.  If the bookstore only sells Office Pro, which may still cost, say, over $150, depending on the school and state you live in, then you might want to just get the Microsoft Office Home and Student 2007 version.  It's available from Amazon.com for $79.99.Thank you so much!  I went and looked at Word Viewer.  I'm going to e MAIL my proff and find out if I have to interact with any word document , like an EXAM, and if not, maybe that will do it for me.

Thank you again.

Solve : Hard Drive Space Issues!!?

Answer»

Most of the time, I am pretty good when it comes to computers, but this one had me stumped. I installed Windows XP on my friends computer and there is plenty of free HD space [16GB] but when i go to install Adobe Flash Player or the printer/scanner software [Lexmark 3300] it says that i need to free up some space. I was able to install some other programs just fine. For example, Microsoft Office 2003 Pro and AVG 8 Free edition. Any help would be appreciated.
Thank You!
Just to clarify the easy stuff first, i take it that there is only one partition, if there is another parition like a D drive or even if there is another hard drive just make sure that the install for those packages are indeed pointing to the operating SYSTEM drive (likely to be the C:\ drive sometimes it isn't and a second partion (maybe one with only a small amount of space is USING that drive letter and the default install on those packages is C:\Program Files\ making a program files folder on a drive with much less space)) .

 Also, Download and Install
CCleaner.
(Without Yahoo Toolbar: http://www.ccleaner.com/download/builds/downloading-slim)

When it is installed, run it and make sure the following checkboxes are checked.
Internet Explorer --> Temporary Files
Internet Explorer --> Cookies (optional)
Mozilla Firefox --> Internet Cache
Mozilla Firefox --> Cookies (optional)
System --> Temporary Files
System --> Empty Recycling Bin (optional but recommended if low on disk space)
You can CHECK whatever else you want but you should know that whatever you check will be unrecoverable.
When you are done, Run the Cleaner. Quote

I installed Windows XP on my friends computer and there is plenty of free HD space
Which version of Windows XP? It is very possible that the installation was
not good. That can happen for no clear reason.
On this forum somebody made a comment that the Install of XP does not fully check the integrity of the HDD. If so, that might be a problem. But I don't think so, but I have been wrong once or twice.
A recent version of Adobe should no do that. It was older programs a few years ago that could not believe you have lots of drive space. That makes me think something is wrong. Either a bad download of Adobe, or a bad install of XP.
To be on the safe side, I would install XP again. And I would try a small partition, maybe 40GB or so. The more I think about it, the more I think that it may be a bad install. I appreciate all of the suggestions!!! The version is Windows XP Professional SP2. I am going to try a re installation and see what happens, I was just dreading sitting through another long and painful installation LOL.
I also noticed that it made the the HD drive F: all by its self for some reason but I never would have thought that that would cause issues like this. It was a completely clean install, formatted the HD with NTFS, and But i have been known to be wrong occasionally in the past.
It is a one HD one partition system, the HD is 20 GB total with 16 GB free. Those installation packages don't give you the option to select where they are going to install, so wouldn't that mean that they are automatically going to point to the System Disk?
I am going to go try all of these ideas and see what happens[Re-Installing Windows being the last resort], but if there is anything else, please feel free to let me know, Ill post again when I am all done. Do you have a Live Ubuntu CD?
It has good partition MANAGER that can identify partitions and destroy them.
Here is a trick you can use with that program.
Delete all partitions on the target drive.
Create a Linux partition of 500MB.
Then create a larger partition, NTFS,  the uses more of the *censored*, maybe 12GB, but not the whole thing. There is a statistical probability (wow, didn't know I could even spell that!) lots of bad sectors are on the begin and end areas of the disc. This applies to older drives. New drives no not have this issue.
Now install Windows XP. It will not try to use the Linux partition. Ask it to do a full format on the large NTFS partition. Do not use unallocated space.
The is a 'kludge', but it can work. I has for me.

Later  try to use some of the unallocated space as a DATA only partition.

But why not just buy a good, used drive?
IDE 40GB drives are now cheaper that ever on dBay.
I doubt it was a bad install.  XP generally uses up 1.5GB after installation, and you've got about 4 gb used.

Rather, the reason some programs refuse to install is simply because they were coded badly. This is because windows has two functions that programs can use to retrieve disk space, "GetDiskFreeSpace" and "GetDiskFreeSpaceEx". The first, and original version, will only return a value up to 2GB. larger values will return strange numbers, even negative. The Ex version fixes this issue by making the value larger.

The technique to circumvent this issue is to use a little or free a little drive space, so  that, hopefully, the old version of the function returns a value that the installer finds acceptable.

However- this still is strange... the adobe installer should be using the new version of the routine. Now that you've unvieled that the drive has multiple partitions, it could be that the drive you or it are selecting doesn't have enough space.

Solve : Computer won't turn on/power surge?

Answer»

I have a very old Hewlet Packard Pavillion (over 7 years old) DESK top computer.  About 2 years ago a friend upgraded the computer and software and installed Windows XP.

I moved to a new apartment and was plugging the computer in and there was a SURGE....the surge protector didn't seem to work and now the computer won't turn on.  My question is can I recover the data on the computer.  If not is it safe to recycle w/information still on the hard drive.

Thanks! If you have another Desktop Computer (laptop will work too), you can plug the hard drive into the good computer as a SLAVE Drive and access the data as if you were reading a Flash Drive (usb drive)Thanks! I do have a laptop but I am not sure how to use it to access the harddrive on my old computer.  Do I need to purchase anything to link the two computers? You will have to purchase something to connect the hard drive to the laptop, not for the Desktop though.

So you're going to use your laptop?I was planning on using my laptop because I don't have another hardrive.  Do I need to purchase a laptop to IDE adaptor to access the hardrive on my laptop?  Or is it another cable I need to purchase?

This is a link of what I thought I needed

http://www.cablestogo.com/product.asp?cat_id=906&sku=17705

Thanks!Let's start again because i for one am confused...
Which machine is dead ? ?
Which HDD do you need to retrieve the data from ? ?
If it's the laptop that's dead that connector is the correct one...it allows you to hook up a 2.5" laptop HDD to any desktop with an IDE connection free. The desk top is the one that had the power surge and will not turn on so I was trying to get the data off that computer.  I only have a laptop to use to access the harddrive on the desktop.  I was trying to figure out what type of connection I needed to do that.  Is it a different connector if I am trying to get information off the desktop? When rescuing data from a drive i for one don't use or trust a USB connection...i find them flaky at best.
This would be one way to use the laptop to do it but i'll suggest something else:
If you know someone else close by that has a desktop machine in good working order with a burner i would hook it up as a slave drive internally and copy all the data you need to a folder.
Then burn it to CD/DVD and disconnect it and you're done.
No special connectors needed at all.

Now i'm sure you will now hear varied ideas on how it can be done with the laptop etc etc. and this is because there are more than one way to skin a cat.

So i'll qualify the above saying this is only opinion and it would be my preferred method of retrieving the data...

BTW The ADAPTER you listed would be what to use if it was the laptop drive that would not boot.

Solve : Forcing XP Pro to install on a specific drive??

Answer»

Hello

I have bought a new hard drive (F) which now sits next to my default drive (C) on which I have Win XP Home.

The new drive is formatted and I now wish to install XP Pro on it. I have tried to force this issue by removing the cables from my C drive and attaching only my new F drive so that the installation process can only SEE my new drive, but I get an 'NTDLR is missing' message at startup.

What else might I try to ensure XP Pro sits neatly in its own drive and averts any possibility of overwriting my XP Home edition?

Thanks.

SteveMake sure there are no CD's or floppies in the drives and re-boot.
Check to see if the drive is recognised by the BIOS by entering SETUP at boot time.
While you are in setup set the boot device order to CD first; floppy second and HDD third.
If this drive has not been formatted it will not be recognised by Windows or a Windows install CD.
You didn't mention what type of HDD this is...if it's IDE it needs to be jumpered temporarily as master for the XPPro install.

More details before we go too much further in this process...Hello Patio

Thanks for your post.

Yes, it's an IDE drive and it has been formatted.

There is a CD in the CD-ROM drive (the Win XP Pro installation CD), but I'll remove it as you suggested.

In BIOS I can see: Primary Drive Maxtor HDD (0)
                              Slave HITACHI HDD (0)

Both show 'Auto' in the BIOS.

What then WOULD you suggest? Set CD first in the BIOS, remove the cables to the C (primary) drive, then insert the XP Pro installation CD and try to install to my new (F) drive?

Cheers again.

Steve Quote

if it's IDE it needs to be jumpered temporarily as master for the XPPro install.

Unhook the other IDE hard drive then proceed with the above...
In this setup you will need to select which drive to boot from after you finish the installation using the BIOS setup as they will be invisible to each other but will be able to share files etc...
This is how you want it correct ? ?
If so proceed.
The other HDD should stay unplugged until you have everything set up to your liking including drivers hardware and programs.Hello Patio

As soon as I remove the cables from the primary disk I get the: 'NTDLR is missing' error. The only option it then gives me is Ctrl + Alt + Del to restart - then it gives me the same error.

Or do you mean remove the cables and then jumper the secondary drive (the new one I want Win XP Pro on) in order to avoid this error?

Thanks

Steve

Hello

Further to my post yesterday, I had to connect the cables (to both drives).

I'm not sure if I have connected them up correctly, as I now see the ASUS screen, with the usual Press [Tab] to show [POST] screen etc at the bottom of the screen.

The boot up process now goes no further than than and I am unable to get to the BIOS.

I do not get an error message.

Thanks for any further help you may be able to offer.

Steve

Solve : Device Manager question - easy?

Answer»

Hi GUYS,

Here's an easy one.

What does the yellow triangle with the black exclamation point mean next to my video drivers when I pull up DEVICE Manager?

I've got Win XP.

While I'm at it, I assume that the yellow ? mean that there is no driver for that device.  Correct?

ThanksA black exclamation point on a yellow background next to a device in Device Manager MEANS that Windows has identified a problem of some kind with that device.

The yellow question mark appears when a device is detected but not INSTALLED. There is also a green question mark that can appear in some SITUATIONS but only in Windows Millennium Edition (ME).

If you flashed the BIOS and nothing was wrong with the machine all bets are off...
What exactly did you DLoad and run from that page ? ?
And why ? ?
A little more history on what got you to this point will be very helpful...i downloaded the bios update. the exe one installed it and it restart  my computer really fast. i9 did it so i can enable usb 2.0 or high speed. Did you Click Here  and read all the Warnings first ? ?

According to that info the BIOS flash is not that quick for that machine...they state 2 minutes or so and if you have turned the machine off prematurely it's not a good thing.

They also post instructions on recording the old BIOS...did you FOLLOW this step ? ?
If not this board may be headed to the shop....i did it buy it self turn of quickly

Solve : The application failed to initialize propery!?

Answer»

I'm so very desperate!  I'm currently using Windows XP, trying to run my Vegas Movie Studio program.  When I try to open it, I get the FOLLOWING message:

The application failed to initialize properly (0xc150002).  CLICK on OK to terminate the application.

In addition to that, I cannot perform a system restore...I select my restore point and click next, but nothing happens.  I am having trouble with opening another program as well, and when I try to uninstall it, the computer locks up.  When I try to re-install it, I'm informed that another INSTALLATION is in progress (which it isn't).

Can anyone help?  I'm trying to complete a DVD slideshow for a friend and I really don't want to dissapoint!

Thanks!!

open an instance of cmd.exe and type that command, let it scan and restart if it has to and SEE if it works after that.

Solve : Weird seagate clone drive happening....?

Answer»

So i had cloned one hard drive ONTO another, and now instead of having it SAY I have just the one hard drive (the one i cloned from i took out), it says I have 2, even thought there is only one in there
theres local c: (which was already there) and local F:.... i found this quote and it is pretty good at explaining what happened to me:
"But now in My Computer I have 2 new Local Drives (E) and (F). My hard drive is C and CD-R is D, and now I have these 2 local drives. The first one is a FAT system and it contains a Dell folder and all files MDM files like "Dellsys.mdm and usbmass.mdm.. The 2nd one has a couple of folders. The folders are BAT" , "SRC1" , "SRC2" , "SRC3" , "SRC4" , "SRC5". Can someone TELL me what these Local disk are and are they HARMFUL to my computer?"

What could this possibly be?OK So i ended up finding a post on dell's forum about this problem.  Just in case this happens to somebody else, this is how you fix it:

Start, Run, cmd

type in Mountvol x:\ /d (where x is the letter of the new drive that is no longer hidden)

This happened to me when I cloned my drive, but others said it happened when they used Easy Creator 6.  This happened on dell computers btw.Sounds like the hidden Dell Recovery PARTITION to me...
The cloning operation probably picked it up and now it's no longer hidden...perfectly normal.

Solve : Memory Issues!?

Answer»

Hey guys!

So, my Laptop is telling me my memory is full. There are no pictures, videos, music, or even documents on this computer. There are only a few programs that add up to under 2 gigs of memory. THis laptop has over 80 gigs of memory (its 3 years old or so? - its and Acer 5050). I've gotten these prompts that ive reached under 200mb a few times and every time i just deleted something, I also use the clean disk feature to empty the recycle bin and temp files, ect -

I hav no idea what to do and its impossible to fine any sites that talk about this because memory issues always leads in there direction. Please HELP! Please be aware that you are actually talking about HARD drive space, not memory, which is something different.

Right click the drive in Windows Explorer, choose properties, and you will see a pie chart. Please tell me the figures for disk space used and FREE you see near it.
Another post from a few months ago described a similar SITUATION.  In this person's case, his operating system had created so many Restore Points, they used up most of his AVAILABLE hard drive space.

Solve : how to edit the partitions to adjust memory between drives??

Answer»

there is a huge dissimilarities between the drives which had been partitioned incorrectly.
I want to edit these partitions from WITHIN windows utilities without using the windows XP  CD.
is there any such utility?
I formatted few drives from computer management wizard at control panel, but didn't find the relevant wizard of my need.

What exactly are you TRYING to accomplish here ? ?
How bout some info on these drives/partitions ? ?If all you want is to re-adjust the size of the partitions, the easiest way to do this is by downloading and installing Easeus PARTITION Manager 1.6;  this program is free for personal use, and is by far the most simple and intuitive partition manager I have ever come across.  You should run it from within Windows;  you can use it to create a boot CD, but if you run it from the CD, it will wipe your partions (if I'm not mistaken).  It is a very safe and reliable program and you will not lose your data.

Solve : Microscopic windows font on XP PC?

Answer»

Hi,
I'm looking at an XP SP3 machine (HP Compaq). It was working fine earlier but someone SWAPPED the montitor over and the next thing we saw was the Windows font size shrink to microscopic writing. The windows themselves are also very small.

I cannot read the writing on the screen. Please can anybody give me a hint as to how to restore normality on this PC?

ThanksTry to Right Click the Desktop, go to Properties and then go to the Settings Tab (the last tab at the top)
Now look for a slider and slide it to the left and press OK.I did that, although I could barely see the slider; it was so tiny.

The font size is still microscopic. The icons have grown in size though. It seems that the windows themselves SEEM to shrink wrap around the tiny font size.

Any other ideas? They are all appreciated.

ThanksSo the slider is all the way to the LEFT now?

Head to the Appearance Tab and change the Font Size.

What happened to the other monitor?I'm doing all this by feel and by reference to another xp machine so that I can see with tab or Button etc is which. This is because it is all in microscopic proportions. However, by this method, I found the font size combo box. The font changed very slightly, but even the largest of the three options only came up to larger microscopic size. Still barely readable.

ThanksCan you make out what the resolution is set at? (in the Settings Tab)

Also:
Quote

What happened to the other monitor?
I have just opened a dos window and, although the writing in the blue bar at the top of the window is microscopic, the dos window font is its normal size.

Is this a clue?
I have decided to restore the whole of the PC from scratch, as nothing seems to change this font size. It is concerning that this can happen though. Fortunatly, I had not long built the system up on this PC and there was no important data on the hard drive.

Her I go again.... Back to the build stage.

I would be eager to know of any reason / solution for this problem, though. I may encounter it again someday.

Thanks for all your help, though. Much appreciated!Just a wild guess but it sounds like someone installed the wrong video driver or monitor driver...My thoughts were along similar LINES. However, I am the only one who's LOADED anything onto the PC since it was bought. The PC selected its own screen settings for the wide screen monitor which I used to build the system on. Could it have selected duff drivers when the users swapped the monitors over? In which case, it would be a problem with XP which seems to decide what monitor it's connected to at anyone time.

I am half way through rebuilding the system. I hope it does not happen again when I hand it over to them.

Does anyone know of any way of disabling this automatic monitor setting thing in xp?

Cheers Hi,
I finished the rebuild, handed it over to the user who promptly plugged in the monitor and hey-presto, the screen went funny again. I replaced the monitor and this time, thankfully, the screen readjusted to a much more comfortable looking setting. (This did not happen last time).

Could the monitor problem be something to do with the HCL (hardware compatibility list)?

Is there any way of switching off the automatic adjustment?

CheersHi,
It's that darn PC again! It's broken again... The fonts went into microscopic mode again. I have built three of these PCs so far and this is the first and only one (hopefully) to do this.

Is there some Window setting I'm missing? or is it a hardware fault? Has anyone come across this before? How do I fix it?

What happened to the other monitor?

Can you make sure it's not a problem with the current monitor you're using? One of the monitors we tried was old and caused the problem Another one which also seemed to cause the problem was also an old CRT but I had used an identical one in the build. So, that is puzzleing.

I have re re built the pc using the original flat screen monitior which cam with it. The user has both the PC and the flat screen monitor. I don't wish to speak too soon but he's been using it for over a day now without any trouble. .... Fingers crossed it looks like a compatibilty problem between the monitor and something in the PC.

I recently built two others like it. One is attached to an old monitor and is still going ok. The only difference taht I can think of is that this one has an Athlon processor and the one that has the font problem has a Pentium dual core processor. I would have to check the graphics cards, though to see if there is a difference there too.

Thanks for all of the help. I'll try to keep you posted if I come up with anything. All right.

Solve : XP won't Boot!?!??

Answer»

Hi all.

An overseas friend of mine told me he experienced problems with his version of MS XP Professional. It was genuine, with SP3 installed, and had been working fine for a long time.

However, apparently he decided something was wrong with his hardware....as i can remember...and was playing around device manager. Then he told me suddenly there were a lot of repeat entries in device manager, many of which had yellow exclamation marks NEXT to them. He SENT me some pictures, and i think there was something wrong with the "resources"? Code 12?

Anyway, a lot of his hardware didn't work after that, including his machine's built in keyboard. My guess he was worried, so he repair-installed xp using his disc.

Problem then was, his xp did not boot after that. It got to the point where xp loading screen appears, then the blue screen with error: 0x000000a1 flashes for the briefest of moments, and the pc reboots. From the video he showed me, i think the BSOD mentioned something about PCI_BUS_DRIVER_INTERNAL ?

I suspect things may have gone wrong when he repair installed his sp3 xp with an sp2 disc. But anyhow, he's really worried right now (been so for quite a while too).

Does anyone know of a way to FIX this?Have him try to re-install his MBoard drivers...and suggest he not play around in Device Manager until he knows what he's dealing with...alright. how might he go about doing that? he says he can't boot at all. do you mean to slipstream the drivers into a new xp disc? if so, where might he find those drivers? from the Dell, HP or whatever website?hi, i know i'm not supposed to bump topics, but it's kinda falling back a few pages.

does noone have any idea for a solution? Can he boot to safe mode?
Or, how about reinstalling XP entirely?  Is that a solution in this case, i.e. any files to lose? Quote from: JXY on October 10, 2008, 03:25:35 AM

alright. how might he go about doing that? he says he can't boot at all. do you mean to slipstream the drivers into a new xp disc? if so, where might he find those drivers? from the Dell, HP or whatever website?

Yes. Who ever made the machine will have the MBoard drivers LISTED on their site...
He will need to log on there and enter any pertinent info such as Model and Serial #...

It did the same thing as earlier- when I hit 'download', it starts, then when at the left/bottom of my screen, it says 'i more item to download', it stops.  I tried the 'click here if does not automatically', but it just bounces back to the partial download page.I uploaded the file for you here: http://www.uploadbigfiles.net/download.php?file=910idsuite_noins.zip
See, if you can download now.OK- It did download this time, THANK you.  When you say 'and install', I must have to do something more???Yes. Double click on idsuite_noins.zip file to "unzip" it.
Then double click on IDSuite.exe to run the program.Broni- I am not sure itis installed- when I go to control panel/add remove, it is not listed- I have them in alpha order, and it should be 'index.dat_noins', but none.
I think at this point I don't want to take up any more of your time, because it is certainly me doing something wrong.  I could tell you better what happens, but each time I end up with several screens, and can't remember exactly what is on what without writing each one down!
I am going to town TOMORROW- I'll go to the computer place and see if they know what I am doing wrong.
ThanksThis program doesn't need installation.
You don't listen. Just double click on IDSuite.exe to run the program
It's not that I don't listen, I do not understand the computer at all. I don't think, that's the issue.
All, I said was:

Solve : watching video off internet?

Answer»

I was wondering if anyone could tell me what I need to do on my computer to be able to watch utube or other video clips on my computer without it stop starting constantly. It playse for about five seconds then LOADS more than plays that bit and so on. Last week it was playing fine, so I'm wondering what I need to check to make it WORK again.Well it SOUNDS like your internet connection is slow.  What internet provider are you using?  What I do is, when it starts playin, hit the pause button, then wait til it loads about halfway.  (slow internet connection for me too haha)Hi ,

Actually You tube does take sometime to load VIDEOS , its normal.

Also it is probably that YouTube's servers are being slow for whatever reason.

Also check your Flash player settings and make sure you have the latest version.

But still you might wanna take a look at This.

If other sites are loading slowly, too, you might want to get a spyware, malware, and/or VIRUS scan.Loading videos on Youtube can also be slow if another computer/something else is using the internet (like another program or another computer)

It can also take a while to load if you are trying to watch many videos at once.I just tried to listen to a song on Youtube and it wouldn't load so I am guessing it's a problem with the Youtube Server.
In this case, it wouldn't be a problem with your computer.

I am aware that Youtube had undergone some maintenance lately, so I wouldn't be surprised if something happened or they are still doing it.Let's wait and see what type of Internet connection she has...

Solve : Size on disk?

Answer»

Hi, everybody,

My first question here:

I have bought an external hard drive (WD). I am backing up most of my data right now.

It seems there is a difference in filesize.

On the external HD a certain folder is let's say 10.0 MB big, but "size on disk is like 9.5 MB.

On my original hard drive in my PC the folder is 10.0 MB big, and size on disk is ALSO 10.0 MB.

How come this difference?

Thx for your reply

Cluster size?
Well, the external HD istn't partitioned anyways, so it's no big deal then?

Sorry, I don't KNOW s**t about PC'sWhat filesystem are you using? FAT16, FAT32, NTFS, EXT3?

If the cluster size is higher than the other drive as Dias de Verano mentioned, or if the formats are different, this would EXPLAIN the filesize differences. NTFSWhen you got the drive was it already setup or did you have to FORMAT it?

Solve : Laptop Help - I Type, then Black Screen!?

Answer»

Hey all...gotta BIT of a weird thing going on with my Laptop...

Its an Advent 7094 laptop...

The pc works absolutly fine, no problems, untill i start to type, then every so often whilst im TYPING the screen shuts of and goes black, the computer starts clicking like its doing somehthing,, then like 10 -15 seconds later the screen comes back to life and the thing is working fine, but the word that i just wrote will be messed up, like it re arranges the order of letters.

Then ill carry on typing and it will do it again!...its rather annoying.....
Recently ive starting to USE another screen, so ive got multiscreens, but when the thing does this black screen malarky, when it comes back to life it STOPS sending a signal to my second monitor, and i have to go back into settings to set it up again.

As im writing this its done this about 3 times, and the last time it now thinks that my 2nd monitor is the real one and the actual laptop screen has gone dead!

You see the problem and annoyance!
Any ideas why this is happening and how to fix it?
CheersWhen did this start happening?

Does it still happen in Safe Mode

What about the clicks, what kind of clicks are they? Its been doing this for a long time, but ive just started to get really really annoyed with it!

I havnt tried it in safe mode as the computer works fine apar from these black outs.

The clicks are the same as if you tried to open word or something, they are loading type clicks.

Ive used spybot to get rid of any malware or spyware incase that was the problem and its still doing itClicks as in....from the Hard Drive?i guess so...
its just your normal loading type clicking...As long as they're not Loud and at regular intervals? Can you try in safe mode?

FBYeah, see how it is in Safe Mode.

Clicking from Hard Drive.....Must be pretty old. Quote from: Teflon_83 on October 14, 2008, 04:18:09 AM

There is no "normal" type ticking in computer components...
If it's from the drive it's known as the "click of DEATH" and spells imminent HDD failure...ok well its not dramatic clicking!
it just sounds like its working, like when you try to open a programme.
but ill try in safe mode....keep ya postedEven my 1994 hard drive doesn't click.

Not sure if I am in the right category but having problem with AVG Anti-Virus free edition v 8.0.173.  Unable to do an update as am getting a message "Invalid update control CTF FILE".   Has been working fine last year or so but all of a sudden this message began showing up.  Can anyone advise how to proceed.  ThanksPersonally, I was AVG user for number of years.
I got so fed up with 8.0 version, since the very beginning, that I simply SAID "Goodbye", and installed Avast on my main machine, and Avira on others.
You're not the FIRST one with AVG update problem.

Solve : keep getting kicked off...?

Answer»

Well, I am having so much trouble with the computer.  Don't know if it is me or it.
Lately, I have been having much trouble with sites.  When I am on a site, I may browse it a bit- then it is frozen, and I get a message that SAYS 'program not responding', then a small box appears saying 'end now/???'  It will automatically shut down my sites.
I do a scan everyday.
Tonite, I was trying to get on the  www.excelsiorcollege.com site, and I had a horrible time- I would type it in, and I would get a blank screen.  Or get frozen after getting on the site.  Or get kicked off.  I tried about 8 times.  Turned computer off and restarted.
Also, when I was typing in a REPLY to a post, when I hit 'submit', a screen came up 'this page cannot be found'
Why?? I am getting crabbyI just went to the site and:

Solve : XP Help Function Disappeared?

Answer»

I have no idea what I've done. I run XP Pro SP-2. When I click "START" and then click on "HELP AND SUPPORT",  the system LOADS "HELPCTR.EXE" and "HELPSVC.EXE". I see them load if I have the Windows Task Manager open. These two load, sit for a moment, and then GO away and nothing else happens.

Anyone know what's going on or what I've done. Can you try a System Restore to a few DAYS before this started?Try here: http://windowsxp.mvps.org/startmenuhelp.htm

Solve : Is it my HDD dying or...??

Answer»

The PROBLEM has been going for less than a week, I'll try my best to explain as detailed as I can.
I've got two HDDs, 200GB for storage (Maxtor 6B200P0), D: drive and 80GB (6Y080L0) for program files and windows, divided into 2, C: and E: drives.

-I realized the problem when I try to move some files from E: to D:, it is so slow, 20+ mins to move few GBs files and you can see the "Moving files" window FREEZES once every few SECONDS and it freezes my windows too.
-When I try to watch videos (around 180mb, 22-23 mins) and jump from start to middle or anywhere else, it will freeze my windows.
-Very slow when doing defragmentation on D: drive and when doing it, my windows will slow a little and the music i'm listening will have some interrupted sounds. It took me half a day to defragment my D: drive and it is still unfinished! I remember it will only take few hours to complete,I'm saying this because it has never happened before. I also did chkdsk but no errors found.

I borrowed SpinRite disc from a friend and going to run it later, but first I want to hear your suggestion.

Thank you for reading and I'll provide any more information If needed. What operating system are you using?
How much RAM do you have installed on your machine?
How much free space do you have on the drive in question?Oh, I'm sorry. I was thinking too much the problem and forgot to post my computer specs.
I'm using Windows XP SP3, 1GB RAM. The HDD in question has 20 GB now. Does the freezing happen after you've had your computer on for a while?
Do you have any virus protection? No, it doesn't. I can play games with no problem.
I have PANDA Internet Security 2008 installed on my computer. To easily rule it out the hard drives by downloading Seagate's SeaTools for DOS
http://www.seagate.com/www/en-us/support/downloads/seatools/

My rule with hard drives, if they fail any of the a smart test or have bad sectors I move all the data off them asap and then replace them.

If the hard drives come up clean then it could very well be some evil software messing thing up.

JoeI ran Seagate's SeaTools for DOS and found one error. The tool repaired it and now no more freezing while moving files but still very slow.

Any more suggestion?

And will a spoiled RAM affect the problem? Quote

And will a spoiled RAM affect the problem?

That is a good possibility.  Remember, applications run in RAM, so if the RAM is faulty, it can affect how your apps and processes run.You can DLoad and run MemTest if you suspect the RAM...
Let it run at least 2 hours un-interrupted...
Any errors at all and you've got a bad stick of RAM.2 hours and at least 2 passes in memtest will rule out memory issues, but I would bet it is the hard drive on it's way out. If you have ROOM I would transfer everything to the drive that did not show any errors.

Solve : windows\system32\config\system corrupt, no boot?

Answer»

My laptop will not boot up and message indicates config\system32\CONFIG\SYSTEM file problem.  The DARK screen indicates repair file by starting windows SETUP using original CD-Rom and SELECT r at first screen.  When I insert the original Toshiba disc which contains XP, and select r, it leads me into a complete hard disc erase, which of course will destroy a lot of valuable files.  What do I do?  Thanks for any help.  --jrkellyThe error message indicates that your REGISTRY is corrupt.   To preserve data you could install the HDD in another pc and copy files.

MS KB307545 applies but data loss is almost certain.

Good luckDo not select "r".

Solve : Retrieving compressed files?

Answer»

Hello,

Can you please advise me if it's POSSIBLE to retrieve a COMPRESSED folder after it has been deleted?

I made an online purchase of an e-book through Clickbank which was sent to me in a compressed file. I have Windows XP. I was unfamiliar with compressed files & thought I could not open the file. As I was concerned that the file may have been affected I deleted it. I am worried as after receiving this my computer screen kept pulsing the same page. I have done a Norton anti-virus scan & no viruses were detected.

I would now like to open this compressed file but I cannot find it anywhere as I deleted it. Does it remain somewhere?

Thank you for your help. If you just pressed Delete, then it might be in the Recycling Bin.

How did you delete it?Thanks for your reply.

I right clicked & deleted it. I'm not too au fait with the computer just the BASICS.

Ok, double click the Recycling Bin on the Desktop and look for the deleted file.
Then Right Click it and click Restore.Yes I've already done that but I think as I PANICKED I deleted it from there aswell to remove it. I suppose after it being deleted from recycle bin it goes permanently.

Not to worry but thanks for your help.

I don't think there is any way to retrieve it then. I've had my fair share of experiences too.
Contact Clikbank and explain that it was deleted in error...
As they have a copy of your ORIGINAL transaction they may be kind enough to replace it for you...

Got a message after having started up the PC that my automatic updates were off which is strange/queer because yesterday there was no problem. Not able to start after following the advise to put it to automatic in the services.msc section. Runtime error....?

Have: XP SP3, IE70, 4.2Gb ASUS, 2Gb RAM, Sygate, AVG 8.0, Superantispyware, Spybot

According to these defences the machine is clean...even HiJackThis is "clean" dont see any "suspect" posts there either...but I have the feeling that something is wrong....started the PC a couple of times with F8 and last ok configuration, but that warningicon is still there

Debug says: JScript - Windows Script block and external.ExecuteSelectionMenuItem('Start')

From Java Sun: Verified Java Version
Congratulations!
You have the recommended Java installed (Version 6 UPDATE 7).oooooooooooops, no not Britney Spears but a bugger called Vundo and I really dont get it that it PASSED all my defences...incredible, but well, Superantispyware came up with it and after removing a new check said clean....as it said before..bah...sorry guys and gals...and suggestions how to make that stuff impossible with all my so-called GREAT defences???

Solve : problem with usb pendrive?

Answer»

when i connect my usb pen DRIVE to my pc it shows 'usb does not recognize' this happend me after i had put it on my friend pc, os is xp, kingston usb pls help meHow old is it?  Does it work on another computer?no, i culdnt connect any other pc, i think i bought it before 1 yearDo you mean you haven't tried it on another computer or it doesn't work on the other computer?ya it doesnt work on anothr pc tooHi

Perhaps your friend's computer wrote something onto your pendrive.

Perhaps a user error, like removing it without GOING through the "Safely REMOVE ..." procedure.

Perhaps your friend has a virus, and after you eventually succeed in reading from the pen-drive you will need to visit the malware removal forum.
Sorry, DOOM and GLOOM are my specialist subjects !!!

Regards
Alan
k fine i  will try , tnxI don't think malware is the PROBLEM here.

anandkpvs, have you been using the Safely Remove Hardware feature?

Also, EXACTLY what happens when you plug it in?Look for a small micro-switch on the drive somewhere...they are there for security reasons...It may also turn out that the drive has "died."  It does happen.  I had a Lexar quit after the two year MARK.  The subject doesn't come up often, but I caution people that if a USB drive is their only backup, they should have a second USB as redundant backup, too.
