Solve : Two browsers Two IPs One OS, how??

Answer»

What i'm trying to do is browse a website in two browsers at once and i need the ips to be different, and possibly
static. Please respond if more info is needed

*i don't want a proxy website because they change ips often and that would just not work for me*May I ask why?will me telling you help you help me? If you're trying to bypass security or download limits (which I believe is what you're doing), then we can't help you.oh no, not that at all. Its more of a privacy issueGoogle an IP Hider. There are a couple of them out there, all with free trials.if i was looking to bypass some download site i could just turn off my modem for a sec and restart or use free software but thats not at all what i need, i need two ips at once, before when i had a vps i could access the site from there. if you still think this is fishy tell me so- i can go to sleep with no answer but ip hider would just hide/change my ONE ORIGINAL ip and i need two ips at once, i dont know if you understand meYou can get IP Hiders to hide your IP for one browser. erm, you do know that the ip-hider that you mentioned is just a software that collects proxys right?
do you know if there a WAY to do this for free w/o some server to tunnel through?Nope.

I've used IP Hiders to get to www.megaupload.com whom has blocked Hong Kong users (which is IRONIC because their headquarters is in HK).hmm i think friend can LET me use his vps, problem SOLVED
thanks for responding, please feel free to close this thread if you have teh POWERS Quote from: Tomcio on August 18, 2009, 08:18:23 PM

Solve : Pop up ads listed in history???

Answer»

Do pop up ads list in someone's browser history if the person closes the pop up and does not click on it? I need to know the answer to this question as soon as possible and I have heard yes and no from different people and places.

Thanks in advance,
CourtneyYes, I think they do appear in history. Just CLEAR the history if you're worried.I've checked my history and don't see any mention of pop ups. I've GOT several pop up blockers but NETFLIX always seems to come through but I can't find any reference to Netflix.

Where would you see them?popup URLs will appear in the history list of any browser the popups... "pop-up" in.

Popup blockers- by definition - stop them before they are shown at all and therefore with one installed they will not be added to the history list.Download, install, become familiar with, and use the "free" CCleaner program on a regular basis. Along with clearing the browser history, it can also delete the Index.dat files which seem to record the web site addresses you've visited.

I'd recommend you not delete the "Hotfix Uninstallers", however, as they are useful if you need to remove/reinstall a corrupted hotfix. You should also be aware one of the default settings is "Only delete files in Windows Temp folders OLDER than 24 hours". You may enable or disable that setting.

This is an excellent program used by many. So good, they provide four different versions: one with someone's toolbar, one without a toolbar, portable version, and U3 portable version. Most go to special "builds page" link of Piriform website for access to all four versions. See CCleaner - Download Builds.

I'd recommend either one of the following:
o CCleaner - Slim (INSTALLER, no toolbar)
o CCleaner - Portable (Zip file, no installer)

Solve : College Internet latency problems?

Answer»

I have a question that no one has been able to answer or fix for me. Im working on a college internet and im trying to play mmo games (world of warcraft mainly) but the latency is so high that I keep getting disconnected. Iv tried the Regedit fix and that dident work eaither. I think it is because we have so many computers hooked up to the same line because the latency changes throughout the day, I just want to know if there is anything I can do to my computer to make it run faster. Any help would be greatly appreciated thank you. Are all of the dorm rooms wired? Or is this in a computer lab or library. What is the connection type and speed to the campus? Usually, colleges have fairly fast connections.Yes there is no wireless in any of the rooms. My speed says 100mbps...not shure if thats the computer's internet speed or mine. How would I go about checking what internet they have here? Your speed will be all over the place based on how many people are online at your college. You can play around trying to get the speed you want for gaming but really it all comes down to LIVING with what they give you or paying and getting your own connection. You live in a dorm so thats not really a easy fix.

Quote

How would I go about checking what internet they have here?

Anybody in the college IT department could answer that for you. Do other students have the same problem? It could be a campus problem or a localized problem. You need to narrow it down. Your IT department MAY even have some people that could help troubleshoot the problem.Use the following utilities (from a command WINDOW) in an ATTEMPT to identify the network node(s) responsible for the latency:

o pathping
o traceroute

Also check the response times from your Domain Name System (DNS) SERVERS.

Solve : Not Connecting?

Answer»

I have a HP Pavilion laptop that has 1.83 ghz processor with 3 gig ram. It is running Vista Home Premium. I have been connecting to the internet through a wiresless connection and it has worked fine, then it just stopped connecting. There are others in the house that connect fine and I have taken it to work where we have a wireless connection and it will not work. It see the network and sometimes it says it is connected but just local. I have tried doing a system restore and that didn't help. I scanned with malwarebytes and found some things and scanned with avg and it is all clean. Still doesn't work. I tried connecting through a wired connection and that doesn't work either. I tried to reset winsock by doing the netsh winsock reset catalog and then reset the IPv4 tcp/IP with netsh int ipv reset reset.log and reset IPv6 tcp/ip netsh int ipv6 reset reset.log then rebooted, but nothing works. I did all that by running as administrator.
Any help Please.
Have you tried resetting your wireless router by unplugging it? Maybe it's just an IP problem.I have reset the router and tried it on a couple of routers that other computers work on.This is not a router problem. The fact u can not connect with a wired cable leads to a laptop issue. try a few simple troubleshooting steps.

1- Preform a check disk FIRST. Hey, this is windows and check disk have been known to preform miracles.
2- uninstall the existing drivers and reboot.
3- download and install the latest and greatest drivers for your LT. Once install reboot.

Write back and let us know the out come.Have you tried connecting directly to the MODEM? If not, do so and see if that works before we go any further. And to CORRECT the post above this one, it could still be a router issue even if a wired connection from the router fails.Allen, danldo posted
"I have reset the router and tried it on a couple of routers that other computers work on."

Thats why I went with the uninstalling/installing driver troubleshooting steps and by pass the modem.A direct connection to the modem is the correct first troubleshooting step.I just connected it to the dsl modem and still doesn't work.
Yesterday I ran a chkdsk and that didn't fix it.
I also down loaded the most current driver and installed still nothing.
I uninstalled rebooted and let it find the device and install, still nothing.
Okay. Try scanning with something other than AVG. Download Avira or Avast or Bit Defender (free version or trial version) and run a scan. DO NOT run two av's resident simultaneously. Are you able to obtain an IP address from the router/dhcp server? If not, you're not going to get anywhere..

open a command prompt and type: ipconfig

Solve : Can you use a PC and Mac on the same modem??

Answer»

Morning,

I have just moved into a new apartment with my girlfriend and will be using my phone line for internet. We have transfered her existing internet (she is using a Mac) and her internet is working fine. My PC however is not.

We are both CONNECTED with ethernet cables and on my PC it shows that the connection of the network is connected but I cannot GET an Internet page to load. I am wondering if the PROBLEM might stem from her using a Mac and me a PC?

Perhaps I have not configured my PC's settings correctly. Should I even have to? I was using a wired connection before but was using cable to access the internet. Could my problem be a switch from cable to phone line? Could it be the Mac/PC issue?

Any thoughts would be wonderful.
Thanks very much

Edit:
1) This is the modem we were given - SpeedStream 6520
2) I'm not currently at home so I can't give detailed specifics on the numbersHello
your problem is not a MAC vs Window connection. I USE MAC, Linux and dare I say Windows on the same network at home.
First lets determine if u have a dial up or DSl connection in your apartment. If u have a dial up modem, only one computer can be connected at a time.
If u have DSL u need a router, not a switch to have multiple connection.
On the window PC open a cmd and type ipconfig /all
u should see the IP Address some like 192.168.1.x. If it has 169.xxx.xxx.x then your setting on the win PC r not correct. Try taking a screen shot and post the ipconfig results. U have internet connect at the apartment, just the fact that your girlfriend can connect to the internet proves it is a setting related to the win pc.

BTW can not resist taking a cheap shot at the win machine, but u can't go wrong with a MAC. HA HA, just joking.
Hey all,

Thanks for looking and responding. It turns out that I am an idiot who thinks he knows computers.

When switching from Cable to DSL, I forgot that I needed to switch from "always connected, no password --> connection that requires a password."

Thanks again, issue resolved.

Solve : no wireless connection?

Answer»

I have lost all wireless connection. I thought this was a problem due to a virus but, I have cleaned my computer over and over, and my logs seem clear yet I continue to get TWO messages first one that says "HOST PROCESS for Windows services stopped working and was closed". Then I continuously get a message saying "wlang config can not start". I tried to start it and I get an ERROR message, 1067. I have cleaned the REGISTRY, but, the problem is still there I'm not sure what to do. Huh?
Any help would be appreciated. Think it can due to some incompatibility between a program on your computer and Windows, you can get more ideas from this post.

do you have any filtering or SECURITY set up on the router?well only the Security WEP key for my router. I have imputed this already but i cant get on the server for some reason.

I dont have any more security settings.and you added that to the wireless network?

you could try recreating the wep key on the router and reset up your notebook and desktop.Yeh mate ive done both still not working what kind of router are you using and also have you tried using a ethernet cable to see if that works. Also double check your dhcp server address and dns server address it looks like to me you have ip addresses conflicting with each other. your dns server should be different than your dhcp and your default gateway addressesMy Router Is http://www.netgear.co.uk/wireless_broadband_router_dg834gt.php

I havent tried an Ethernet cable because my PC Is too far away from any phone line (on the 3rd floor). I have always connected by wireless in the past with this PC.

I SAW a problem on another forum similar to this so i decided to try out renewing the ipconfig...

Type this at the command prompt:

Hit your Enter/Return key.

Solve : Is my NIC causing the problem??

Answer»

Hello,

Lately I am having PROBLEMS to CONNECT to the internet, I am able to navigate for some 2 or 5 minutes and then the connection drops off.

I look after my PC on a regular basis for viruses, malware, etc, and everything works fine excepting for the internet. I requested technical assistance from my ISP. They checked the cable, the modem, all the connections and the tech guys tested the connection with their laptops and it worked fine, but when I connected my PC the nightmare came back.

I am afraid that my NIC is causing the problem, because it is an integrated device to my board (Intel DP965LT). Any links with additional steps to test my hardware device? Installing a NIC for this board will be a headache, won't it?

Any inputs will be enormously appreciated.

M.Why headache? All you need is 15 bucks, put the card into PCI slot, install the driver, and you're good to go.
It looks like network adapter problem. You need to update to the latest driver for your NIC or try an older one (roll back your driver) for a stable connection.1. Computer Specs:
a. Manufacturer and model number if brand name computer, otherwise
b. Manufacturer and model number of motherboard: Intel DP965LT
c. Operating system and service pack level; e.g. Windows XP Professional SP3

2. Onboard NIC. Intel 82566DC Gigabit Ethernet LAN controller supports 10/100/1000 Mbits/sec. RJ-45 LAN connector with integrated LEDs has two LEDs, one on either side of the tab insert. If you're looking at connector with tab insert facing up, the LINK LED (Green) is on the left side, and the Data Rate LED (Green/Yellow) is on the right side.

The "Link" LED States are:
Off - LAN link is not established.
On - LAN link is established.
Blinking - LAN activity is occurring.

The "Data Rate" LED States are:
Off - 10 Mbits/sec data rate is selected.
Green - 100 Mbits /sec data rate is selected.
Yellow - 1000 Mbits/sec data rate is selected.

So what data rate does the NIC operate at or try to operate at?

3. Internet Connection Path. Basically, I'm primarily interested in the network speeds your connection devices support (and whether full/half duplex).
a. Do you use cable or DSL modem?
b. Make and model number of modem?
c. Computer connects to modem how? Through hub, switch, home router, or directly connected to modem?
(1) Make and model number of home router
(2) Make and model number of switch and/or hub

4. Connection Drops Off. When internet connection drops off, are you still able to communicate through the NIC to other devices (local computers or home router)?

When internet connection drops off, what is the state of the computer NIC Link and Data Rate LEDs?

When the internet connection drops off, do the status LEDs on modem indicate communication problem from modem to ISP. I'm guessing not, because I think the ISP techs would have checked that.

Solve : Wi fi and router questions?

Answer»

Haven't a clue about computers so be kind and explain THINGS in a simple way lol.

Have 2 computers in my house which are connected by a wireless modem....which are working no problem.......daughter has just bought a laptop and it has wi fi....the laptop recognises the wireless connection and says it has stong connectivity......but won't connect until i provide the network name and password....haven't a clue what the network or password are ...how do i find out please? You won't be able to figure out the password unless you have WRITTEN it down somewhere. The best thing to do would be to press and hold the reset button on the back of the wireless router and/or modem to remove the security on it. You will need a small paperclip or fine-tipped pen in order to do this. Then allow about a minute for the devices to reset. After that, all of the computers should be able to connect to the network without any security authentication. The only problem is that all your neighbors with be able to do the same.

In order to setup the password again, you need to know what model of router you have and connect to the IP address of your router USING internet explorer or another web browser. Most can be ACCESSED by the following:

192.168.0.1

The default security that will popup with ask for a user name and password, which are typically admin/admin or admin/password. You can then go through the menus to add a password under wireless settings. Hopefully this helps and good luck.

Thanks so much for getting back to me...will try and do that xxxQuote from: jackie45 on October 16, 2009, 01:54:05 PM

...wireless modem...
Is this a wireless DSL modem provided by your ISP?No...the wireless router i bought myself so that daughter could get internet on her pc upstairs....... i have the router plugged into my NTL box as thats who i get broadband with. You said wireless modem and I know AT&T makes some of those.
You also said: "......but won't connect until i provide the network name and password....".
You should be able to view the "network name" in the router.

I suspect the following:
Network Name: LINKSYS
Password: admin

If it's a Linksys router, Network Name is "linksys" by default.
Access to Linksys is http://192.168.1.1/index.htm
User Name:
Password: adminThank you for your reply..will give this a try too..thanks again xxxx

Solve : Laptop wireless connection speed??

Answer»

I have sky broadband router. One PC connected via ethernet cable, 100.00 Mbps speed.
The PROBLEM is when I connect my laptop with WIRELESS connection I only get between 12.00-54.00 Mbps speed. When I connect my laptop using the ethernet I get 100.00 Mbps speed.

The question is should I be able to get full speed of 100.00 Mbps when connected using wireless??
Both ends of your wireless link need to USE the same wireless standard to COMMUNICATE. You are limited by the standards common to both the laptop and router.

Refer to the product specifications your hardware has been designed to support. Frequently they're designed to support multiple standards.

The maximum theoretical throughput for the IEEE 802.11g standard is 54.0 Mbps.

Other standards you might SEE are 802.11a, 802.11b, and the draft for 802.11n.

i cannot go on the internet ANYMORE without my computer begin directly connected to the router. when it is not connected it cannot find any networks. when i diagnose it with windows networking, it say i do not have a wireless network adapter installed and configured. i have downloaded drivers, rebooted my compuetr and reinstalled windows but nothing is working. could someone please help??

thanksClick START, type Device Manager.......CLICK on Device Manager when you see it in the menu... When Dev. Manager opens, look at where it says "network ADAPTERS"

Click on the "+" sign next to "network adapters" and then right click on the wireless item in the submenu.........Click "properties", look on the "general" tab. What does it say the "Device STATUS" is?

If it says, "This device is working properly", do this next:

Click Start, type Administrative Tools, click on it when you see it in the menu.
Click on "services" Maximize the screen and scroll down to where it says "Wireless Zero Configuration", right click on that and make sure the service is running... If it is running already, there will be an option to stop it.. If it is not running, there will be an option to start it.....If it is not running, go ahead and click on "start" to start the service.... Once the service starts again, right click on it again and select "properties", and next to where it says "start up type" make sure it is set to "automatic" and click "apply" and "ok"...

Then try to scan the area again to see if it is picking up your router...

Solve : Wireless switch doesn't turn on?

Hello everyone,

I've got a Dell Inspiron 1525 and a few days ago my brother installed Fedora release 11. He got everything up and running and then I travelled overseas back to my home.

Now my wireless switch doesn't turn on. I'm worried that my wireless card might be damaged. When I run lspci this is what I get:

PS. I'm a Linux newbie so still learning the basics

Thanks! When u state does not turn on, no power to the device? Or u can not connect to the device. Not sure what u mean by wireless switch? Is it a WAP (wireless access point) or a wireless ROUTER. Networking Protocols r a international standard, meaning it has to follow the same protocol irregardless of OS or country u r living. The standard has to applies the same to MS, OS X and Linux or the country.

Granted the way u configure or CHECK the networking hardware might be different in each OS, but the results have to be the same. For example in MS u type ipconfig /all and u get a short list of networking info. In Linux and MAC OS X, u have to type ifconfig. U get the same infor (maybe a lot more info). But the end result will be the same, more or less the same info.
Dell uses either Intel or Broadband wireless antenna's. On your settings down on the bottom u have a Broadband Network controller. This is the wireless antenna.
Need to know if u have a WAP or wireless router to help more. Hello midsail,

Thanks for your response. I have since solved the problem by REBOOTING linux with a previous version of the kernel (thanks to tips from the guys at Fedoraforum.org)

Thanks anyway!

Solve : Sharing internet?

Answer»

Hi!

I have a laptop with a wireless network card that are connected to the internet wirelessly, and a desktop computer without a wireless network card. Since I am not going to buy a wireless network card or a internet cable to the desktop (because this is a temporarily solution which I only need for 3-4 days), I need to fix this in another way. So what I was thinking.. Is it possible to connect a cable between the two computers and get internet on the desktop computer? Like.. the laptop is sharing the internet, being a switch/router. Is it possible, and if so - how do I do this? The laptop has Windows XP and the desktop has Windows 7 if that makes any difference. I can format and install windows XP on the desktop if that is necessary.

Thanks in advance. You would still have to have a network cable going from the laptop to the desktop.

After that all you need is ICS(Internet CONNECTION Sharing) It's a component of Windows, you would run that wizard on the laptop and connect the desktop to the laptop. So it is possible to just use a network/TP cable from the laptop to the desktop? I just run the ICS on the laptop? Is it easy..? And the windows 7/windows xp thing.. will that work with two different OS'?It SURE will, just follow all the directions that the wizard gives you and you should be just fine.I've never shared a "wireless" internet connection, but don't know why it would be any different than a "wired" internet connection.

Perhaps this will provide more guidance: Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) in Microsoft Windows

If you're planning on direct "wired" connection between laptop and the desktop, you're going to need a "crossover" ethernet cable. If you use a "switch" or "hub" between them, use a "straight" ethernet" cable. Most ethernet cable use is with a straight cable. Crossover cable (or adapter) should be available at your local computer store.

Can't comment on Windows 7 as I've never seen or used it.Thank you so much! I got it to work : DYou're welcome, come back any time.will that work for windows 95?Quote from: smeezekitty on August 21, 2009, 09:55:13 PM

Solve : Pulling in Neighbor Wifi?

Answer»
I bought a Outside Wifi Antenna off of Ebay. It has a 14db gain on it. I put it up in the attic as I couldn't easily mount it outside. It is about 25 ft in the air. I am running down from the antenna RG58 into a SMA connector to the WIRLESS card. I am only picking up my own wireless router ! There are NUMEROUS wireless routers in my neighborhood. Is there something that I need to set or disable on my computer...?

Suggestions are welcome, please.....
Why would you need to access the neighbours WiFi?
Well I am using that as a barometer as to how well my WIfi antenna is working. I am extending the distance of my Wifi signal...If I can't recieve anyone, than it tell me that my signal is not going anywhere....

RG58 ?
Why?

Solve : Network Cable Unplugged- Just put in new NIC?

Answer»

My internet would be fine for 10-15 minutes, then the pages would stop loading (This Page Cannot Be DISPLAYED message), although when I checked network connections, the everything was apparantly "connected". I would not be able to get on the internet again until I restarted the computer, then I'd get another 15 minutes, and the process repeats.
So I browsed around here and found a person with a similar problem that turned out to be caused by a virus. I've scanned and everything (though have yet to put up logs), but nothing has shown up. I don't think that's the problem.
There is hardly any dust inside the computer, so I don't think that's the problem.

So finally, it was suggested that the NIC needed to be replaced (my computer is a WINDOWS XP Dell from 2002, System 2). I have done that, but before I can FIND out if that fixed the problem, I need to actually at least get a connection! So my question is: why does the connection for the new card (D-Link DFE-530TX + PCI fast ethernet...) display "network cable is unplugged"? I have also a connection for Intel(R) Pro/100 VE Network, and this is apparantly "connected", but like before, I still can't get on the internet with this one.
I've tried disconnecting the Intel connection to get the D-link (the new card) on, but there is still "network cable is unplugged". How to I get it to connect? And what is Walk-On LAN (there is a cable for this for the card that I did not connect because I didn't see a place for it on the motherboard)? Could the WOL be the problem? I have no clue.I would think it is a heat problem. Some NICs just get too hot.
Turn off the powr, OPEN the case, cool down the chip on the NIC. A small bit of alcohol will do, put just on the chip, not the other components.Wwait a bit for the alcohol to evaporate. Turn ythe system on again and use a strop watch to time how long it TAKES. If cooling the NIC chip makes it better, you have an idea of what to do next. Also check the power management setting in the NIC.

Solve : Router broken - need new one with great signal?

Answer»

Hi,
recently my Netgear 54mbps wireless ADSL modem router DG8346 V3 antena broke. I've put it back on with blu tack but I keep LOSING signal around the house.
I was hoping you could give me some suggestions on a good modem with excellent signal (because last TIME a bought a router without help, I ended up buying a cable router and couldn't think why it wasn't work), I've got a OLD Victorian house so the walls are really thick and signal doesn't seem to travel well in the house.

Also, are the Netgear signal boosters any good? Cause I think I remember reading that they have to be plugged into a telephone socket and I only have 2 of them and 3 computers (one on first floor, one on second floor and one in the attic)

Finally, if I bought a new router would I be able to keep the other one plugged in - so that I get better signal, cause my SIXTH Form has routers in every room and none of the computers have bad signal.

Thanks

P.S I have a 8mb internet but my city only supports 4mb so I have 4mb internet, if that's any help.
OH, not a cable router, don't have cable got the other one.
Okay if you don't want to give me suggestions, can you at least tell me what you have?
Cheers

Solve : Is WIRELESS N compatible with WGR614 wireless router?

Answer»

I am looking at a NETGEAR WNDA3100 WIRELESS N, WILL IT WORK WITH A NETGEAR WRG614 ROUTER Do NOT start multiple threads about the same topic.Yes, they are compatible.I'd just like to ADD that the router will not support the full bandwidth capability of an 802.11/n (300 Mbps) wireless adapter... The highest THROUGHPUT the router will support is 54 Mbps (802.11/g) However, since both /g and /n operate in the 2.4 GHz spectrum, the "N" adapter is CAPABLE of being ran on that router... The highest possible throughput for the "N" adapter will be 54 Mbps (802.11/g)...

Solve : Gateway 5200s doesn't recognize ethernet controller upon HD reformatting?

Answer»

Working on a Gateway desktop. Had to fdisk the harddrive. All drivers that I downloaded from their website worked except for the Broadcomm ethernet controller. Confirmed w internet provider that there was a signal. Checked device manager. STILL getting a flag for the ethernet controller. Does anyone know of a compatible/generic one? Checked several sites & received the same results - use Broadcomm. Using the same OS as previously, installed XP Pro SP2. Help. Is the Broadcomm network adapter built-in to the motherboard or a separate card?

Did Gateway offer any download for the motherboard "chipset"?

Did you install from a Gateway OEM or Microsoft Retail Windows XP Install CD? Broadcom/ethernet adapter is connected to the motherboard.

Gateway did supply a chipset & upgrades to bios. Installed all files supplied by the website.

Used a legit XP pro sp 2 CD.

Would the order of driver installations effect it? Can't remember if I did the chipset first. About 15 files were supplied.

Took out the battery before any driver installations.

Is it possible that section of the motherboard is bad?

Should I test out a pci ethernet card & see if that works.

Suggestions?

P.S. Thanks for a reply. Best place to find out what you may overlook.

1. Motherboard Drivers. Install the motherboard "chipset" drivers first, reboot, then install drivers for the other built-in devices. How to install your motherboard chipset drivers

2. Network Adapter. Yes, it's possible for a built-in (onboard) device to fail. If you can borrow a PCI network adaptor for test purposes, fine. I'd wait a few hours before "buying" one, however. The corpse of the built-in one isn't even cold yet! Why do you think the built-in one isn't working properly? Did it ever work properly?

What kind of "flag" is on the ethernet controller (network adaptor?) within Device Manager; yellow exclamation point, blue I, or red X?

Within Device Manager right-click the flagged ethernet controller (network adaptor?), select "Properties", select "General" tab. What message and/or error code appears in the "Device status" subsection of the tab display?
PLEASE pardon the delay in response. Had family emergency. I downloaded the CPU ID software. I updated the bios & matched up the proper chipset. Still..no dice. yup we all use wireless and protected with password. my brother think that other roomate he LIMITED our network speed because when i login to 192.168.1.1 it need ID and password, and i TYPE ID: admin password:admin it not work....The password could also be "password" or blank. The username could also be "administrator". Ask your roommate if he put a password on there and why.

Solve : WiFi Connection Problem?

Answer»

I have a Dell Inspiron E1405 laptop that's about 4 years old. It's running Windows XP. Recently I moved into a new apartment at college with five other people. We have Road Runner. We had problems with it at first. We were supposed to have turbo, but the download speed was only as fast as dial-up and the people with Mac's couldn't even connect to our network. My computer would connect but the internet was incredibly slow. The Road Runner guy came and fixed it last week. Now the download/upload speeds are right where they should be and everyone can connect...except me. When I open the window that says Dell Wireless WLAN Card Utility (by clicking on the 4 towers that show the network signal at the right side of the toolbar) there is a red X through the network. When I open the Wireless Network CONNECTION window it says "Windows cannot configure this wireless connection. If you have enabled another program to manage this wireless connection, use that software..." No matter how many times I refresh this list it doesn't recognize any networks. Weird thing is that I can pick up the signal from my neighbor's network and connect to that. I would just use that one, but the router is too far away to get a strong, consistent signal and I don't know my neighbors so I don't really like using it. Plus, if I'm paying for internet in my home I'd like to be able to use it. I'm assuming that since all five of my housemates can use our network just fine (both Mac and PC) that it's my computer. Any SUGGESTIONS? I'd really like to avoid calling Dell or going somewhere similar that will charge me an outrageous amount of money.

"I'm assuming that since all five of my housemates can use our network just fine (both Mac and PC) that it's my computer."

Don't assume. Verify.

Did it ever connect / if so what changed / are you getting an IP from the router / if it is encrypted do you have the access codes that your housemates have?

Alan <><

My computer connected with no problems before they came and fixed it. All that changed was whatever the Road Runner guy did that was supposed to fix our problems. I don't know what he changed.

How do I know if I'm getting an IP?

I've tried putting in the access CODE several times and it does nothing. No error message or anything. It just doesn't do anything.

We had wireless connected before, it just wasn't working on anyone's computer in the house, except for mine. Mine DID work. Then the Road Runner guy came and now mine DOESN'T work, but everyone else's does.

When I did the start / run...etc...this is what I got. BUT this is when my computer is connected to the neighbors internet.

Windows IP Configuration

Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.1

When it is not connected to the neighbors internet and I try connecting to my own (which doesn't work) this is what it says

Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection 3:

Ethernet adapter Wireless Network Connection:
Media State . . . . . . . . . . . : Media disconnected

My laptop does not have an on/off button for wireless.

Yeah, this has appended before.
You get a good connection on Ethernet.
You connect to somebody's wireless.
You can not connect to a secure wireless.

It is a problem with the WEEP key thing, or whatever.
Get an update for the wireless device driver.
Get the updates for Windows XP. Some problems were fixed in SP3.

I'm an idiot. I just tried connecting to a different network that shows up using my network key and it works. Apparently he changed the router or something which changed the name of our network and no one told me. So I've been trying to connect to a nonexistent network this whole time. Thanks for the help anyway.

Solve : Can't access some sites?

Answer»

I have two web sites that I need to access but can't. I'm using Explorer 8 and Vista. I enter or click on the desired URL or copy and post (tried all three), it tries to initiate contact, the green bar at the bottom slowly goes to half WAY, then nothing. No error message, it just sits there till I can't stand it anymore. I've been trying for days now and always the same result.

I contacted both sites (by phone oe email) and both businesses said their sites are working fine. In the past I have been into both sites with no problems.

Can anyone help please?try Mozilla Firefox Browser to see if you can access those sites if you have not already attempted doing so.

Thanks for the suggestion. I downloaded Firefox. I typed in the web address and the same thing. That was 10 minutes ago and it's still telling me it's loading and the green bar at the bootom is about half way there.usually MEANS site down temporalalyThat's what I thought but it happened 4 days running and counting. This afternoon I phoned one of the organizations and they said their web site was working just fine at that time. What sites are you trying to visit? Have you tried them on ANOTHER COMP?It seems like mostly government sites such as Servicecanada.gc.ca; canada revenue agency and canada pension plan. The other one is private and a secure site that I can see my phone bill on.

I haven't tried from another COMPUTER. Maybe this weekend I might have access.

the problem still exists today. No error message and it just hangs there. I tried turning off my DSL modem and back on thinking that may be a source. No difference. The Servicecanada.gc.ca site worked for me.I know. That's why it's so strange why it won't work for me. Are you trying to connect to them from your house or from work?

To those who tried to help with this problem, I have found a solution but not a fix. I took my computer to a a consultant and I was able to connect to all the web sites. He was using a different router. He then connected my computer to a similar router as mine and had the same problem.

My computer has the routing information and it automatically connects to the internet server. What we had to do was configure the router itself with the address. Now all the pertinent info is on the router so we bypass the need for my computer to configure it. I hope this makes sense??

Anyway, all is now well. We assume that Vista was somehow interfering with the protocols.

Solve : ICS stopped working?

Answer»

This is a sort of strange setup I have. My room is upstairs and I wanted to have internet on my desktop. I have a laptop which is what I am using to post on here with but it isn't the best laptop. I DECIDED to use ICS (Internet Connection Sharing) to be able to have internet on my desktop which is upstairs right next to my laptop. My modem is downstairs and is CONNECTED to a wireless router. My laptop upstairs connects to that wireless router downstairs and has internet. I then used ICS and enabled it on the wireless network on my laptop. I plugged in my laptop to ANOTHER router which i have upstairs (exact same model router as the one downstairs) and plugged it into the internet port on my router. I then hooked my desktop up to the router. This is the setup basically.

Internet --> modem downstairs --> wireless router downstairs --> laptop upstairs (with ICS enabled) --> wireless router upstairs --> desktop

This was working perfectly and has been for about 2 months, then all of a sudden it stopped working. My desktop upstairs can connect to my router upstairs but not the internet which it use to be able to do. My laptop and desktop both have Windows 7. I have DSL from AT&T and both wireless routers are Netgear WGT624.

I only use a router upstairs because I want internet on my desktop and xbox. My xbox had internet but it doesnt anymore which is the same for my desktop. Im just trying to be as detailed as possible. MY xbox is also hooked up to my router upstairs, same one as my desktop. My laptop, desktop, xbox, and wireless router upstairs are all in the same room if that somehow helps.

So basically Im asking if anyone can help me to get internet BACK to my wireless router upstairs so my desktop and xbox can have internet again.

Ive also heard about something to do with bridging both my routers so that my wireless router downstairs can directly give internet to my router upstairs but I dont know how that would work but I think that would solve the problem. Have you tried resetting the upstairs router?I can't count how many times I've reset both routers and modem. So yes. Quote

That would involve running a cable in between both routers.

Have you tried running the ICS Wizard again?

I thought since both routers were wireless I didnt need a cable.

And I never used the ICS wizard.. I just went to network connections or whatever it is that shows all of my different networks, went to the wireless one, properties, sharing, and then enabled it and also enabled all of the other checkboxes which was other services that the client computers can use. Did you try to set it up again?Ive never ran the ICS wizard, where is it at in Windows 7? And since both routers are wireless can i bridge them together?

I have to admit that I'm not familiar with Windows 7.

For the bridging, there is a pretty good article here.what version of windows 7 do you have? Does it support bridging?Quote from: mroilfield on August 23, 2009, 04:49:35 PM

The OS won't come into play there. The OP isn't referring to bridging two NICS. The OP wants to bridge two routers.
That is OS independent. Thanks for the link. Ill try to see if bridging works. Let us know.Quote from: Quantos on August 23, 2009, 04:51:11 PM

No problem, I had to re-read everything to make sure that you didn't see something that I'd missed. I dont seem to understand the wireless bridge guide.

EDIT: Problem solved! I finally found 64 bit DRIVERS for my wireless adapter so I have internet on my desktop. My xbox still doesnt have internet, but I'm going to try and use ICS from my desktop to my xbox but if it doesnt work it doesnt really matter that much.

Thanks for all of the help anyways.

I am wondering if the INTERNET USES satelite or underwater cables from one country to another overseas. How does the Internet get worldwide? The Internet doesn't get worldwide. It IS the world.

Solve : Bridging?

Hai
In my server there is 4 NIC Ports and i want to make the Bridging. How can i make it.

my purpose: even i lose 3 connections ,the network must be available .i hope somebody will help me in this topic

thanxFirst off, let me say I've never created a network BRIDGE connection. Second, the following link is targeted for Windows XP as the host computer in a home network environment. I assume it would be fine for Small Office Home Office (SOHO) environment. Setting Up Network Bridge in Windows XP

You mentioned the four NICS were in a server. It might be helpful if you TOLD us which OPERATING system and what service pack level; e.g. Windows Server 2003 SP1?

I cannot get on internet at home. MY ip address is

IP address ...... f80:: blah blah blah (dont remember the rest exactly )

does this mean anything to anybody?please post a copy of IPCONFIG /ALL if possible.mm..unfortunately i cant. im at work and the prob is with my home COMPUTER. but i can tell you it looked something like this:

IP......164.something
subnet mask....255.something
IP......f80::215 (or soemthing along those lines) and then a bunch more numbers
default gateway (dont remember...but i believe it matched the 164 from above)

i TALKED to three isp tech support folk, and they have no clue what the f80 means, or why its being causedI am thanking that you are looking at a truncated IPv6 address. when you post your ipconfig we will know more.

once you have a copy of your ipconfig you could try running the following command:

ipconfig /release
ipconfig /renewtried that at home and it was unable to doooh wait...i dont think i did /release i just did /renew

doh...hm.....dang it now i have to wait til i get home to try that.....sigh

and this is gonna bug me all day
so anyway...i'll try that when i get home, but...just in general...

if you see IP address.. f80:: blah blah blah

that doesnt INDICATE a specific cause to you?No. it just indicates a IPv6 IP address.

you need to find the other IP address entries.

One THING you can do is redirect ipconfig to a file:

Code: [Select]ipconfig > C:\ipout.txt

and then copy that files contents into your next post.blows my mind how 3 isp internet fios tech support people had no clue what that was ...even if they COULDNT resolve it....the had no clue what it was

This is IP version 6 (IPv6), not the IP version 4 (IPv4) you are talking about. IPv6 can handle more people at once. Enable IP version 6 by:
1. Right Clicking on the network icon
2. Click on Manage Network Connections
3. Right Click on your NIC and click on properties
4. Click on Install then Protocol and then IPv6
5. Check both IPv4 and IPv6

Solve : understanding Netstat beyond the usual Internet help?

Answer»

Hi,

I have poured over the Internet for help with understanding the results of a Netstat page. I have made only limited progress because most of what I found was either not explained fully enough or else too deep to follow-touching on elements of Netstat I had not even heard of after two weeks of searching and suddenly there is something new to learn about it.

I have been unable to find a fully explained version of a page of Netstat results. What I have found involves putting together parts of other pages and trying to piece together and UNDERSTAND the sum of all I come across.

Having already taken the basic Networking college course, I am using my college textbook as a guide in what I should learn about Netstat. However, it is very incomplete and leaves you hanging and unaware of many features of Netstat and other Command Prompt functions. We did not finish the entire textbook and I am trying to do so on my own.

Therefore, my questions are of a simple nature but will probably require an involved response. I will start with specific issues and work toward general questions. To begin with, can anyone explain why my computer does not display all of the Netstat functions?

For example, I can display the simple commands like netstat -a; or netstat -r; or any of the other 'single' letter function keys. But I cannot get my computer to display results like netstat -p proto; or netstat Interval. All it wants to show is the table of netstat commands. Why? What am I doing wrong?

Then my textbook asks me to perform some exercises. It says; "Display several ports for a server running FTP or Web services." Can you tell me what exactly I am supposed to do here?

It also asks us to: "Show connections for a specified protocol." Can anyone explain to me further what the textbook wants me to do here?

I am learning there are so many things netstat will do. I have seen that netstat can help to track down trojans and the like in your computer. But I am still not sure how to use it to do this. Can anyone tell me a 'how to' step-by-step on how this is done?

And finally, can anyone explain, in simpler terms, how to read the results of a netstat scan? As I have said, I have put together pieces of understanding in being able to read the results but I still have no complete understanding of interpreting its results.

Thank you in ADVANCE for any insight anyone offers.Quote from: Clyde2 on September 03, 2009, 10:01:06 AM

And what computer (basically operating system) would that be? Different operating systems have different implementations (syntax and content) of the command.

"proto" and "interval" are placeholders for values. It might have been clearer if they had used following notation for command syntax "netstat -p " or "netstat ". At any rate, try the following examples (from Windows 98 implementation):
netstat -p tcp
netstat -p udp

Redisplays selected statistics, pausing interval seconds (e.g. 5) between each display:
netstat 5
netstat -p tcp 5

Not sure about first one.

"Show connections for a specified protocol":
netstat -p tcp
netstat -a -p tcp
netstat -N -p tcp
netstat -a -n -p tcp

Netstat
The NETSTAT Command

The last link above is radio show audio and/or transcripts between Leo Laporte and Steve Gibson. It's a little tedious to work through but there is some good information in there. Thanks so much for the reply. I am able to understand some things you say right away. Such as the [proto] and [interval] you say are placeholder values and the examples you give on how to use them are invaluable.

My operating system is what came with this laptop when we bought it at Office Depot on Memorial Day 2008. We use Vista Home Basic. I have bought the Vista Professional version but I have yet to install it. I want to learn how to save and backup things before I attempt to switch over. That REMAINS another topic for me to address.

Other things about Netstat will remain a mystery, it seems. I have no more to offer in explanation about the textbooks' assignment of "Display several ports for a server running FTP or Web services." That's all it says.

Thanks also for the links you provided. Some questions I'd like to ask about those links if I may. How do you cut and paste my words into your reply and put my words into a box that is differently colored?

Furthermore, and most intriguing to me, is how did you set up your hyperlink for the NETSTAT Command radio show talk in which the link automatically took me to the desired program in the list of programs?

I know this doesn't pertain to Netstat but I wish to learn how to do so many things with computers and I have only scratched the surface.

Thanks.

(1) I place the cursor where I want the quote to appear in the "Message" box of the reply I am building.
(2) I then scroll the browser window (not the reply message box) to your reply which contains the entry I want to quote from.
(3) Left click on blue "Insert Quote" link top right of your reply.
(4) A quote construct with your reply appears at the cursor location of the reply I am building.
(5) I then edit the quote to retain only the "relevant" words for the point I'm addressing. Rhetorical comments: Once edited, is it still a quote? When is a quote no longer a quote?

b. Place new text in quote box.
(1) In "Message" box, enter the text you wish quoted. Depress and hold down left mouse button as you drag from beginning to end of text, then release button to select it.
(2) Then left-click on "Quote" icon, second one from right in "Add BBC tags" line located above the message box.

or alternatively
(3) Left-click on "quote" icon, second one from right in "Add BBC tags" line located above the message box.
(4) Quote construct appears in message entry box at the cursor location. Enter desired text between the begin and end quote tags.

2. Setup Hyperlink. I selected the icon that looks like a "World Globe" from the "Add BBC tags" line and tried to match with example from BBC Tag.

3. Automatic positioning within web page. I don't know. I believe the link I copied was already setup to go there.

Solve : Sharing drive?

During the TIME that #3 was being built the remaining computers enjoyed the netwok as before except #3 wasn't there.

Finally got the new#3 back and installed it on the network. Computers#1 and #2 can see and access the drives on #3. HOWEVER, #3 cannot see or access the drives on #1 and #2. I have set # 3 drives to share and attempted to map them from @1 and #2. A connection cannot be found. I try to map them to "\\Ws3\c and \\Ws3\g".

All windows FIREWALLS are shut off and we depend on the router firewall.

Any suggestions?

Solve : How easy is it to connect a Linksys router to my desktop & use my Laptop on-line?

Answer»

How easy is it to connect a Linksys router to my desktop & use my Laptop on-line? I have a desktop in basement and my laptop is on main floor (one level). I want to be able to use my laptop in my bedroom instead of going downstairs all the time to connect to internet.
Would I have to connect the Linksys router to my external modem in basement and have a sensor on my laptop to pick up the signal and would Linksy software be installed on laptop also? I never done anything like this before.

1. How Easy. Many people have taken the journey and completed it successfully.

2. Wireless Access Point Location. You get better coverage if the wireless router (or access point) is "higher" in the house rather than "lower". From a practical standpoint, you just have to try it.

An ALTERNATIVE to "wireless" access is using the home's electrical power lines for a home network. The advantage is you can plug a network adapter into any electrical outlet and connect your computer to the adapter. In your case you'd connect laptop (not sure which interface) to adapter in bedroom; and home router to adapter in basement. I don't know anyone who has ever used this option. Not sure about security (does data extend to the electrical line outside of the house)?

3. Wireless Configuration. My expectation is you would locate wireless router (or access point) in basement and use wireless interface on laptop. Many laptops have wireless interface built-in. If yours doesn't, you would buy a peripheral wireless device to plug into laptop. They're available for several different interfaces. The USB and PCMCIA (PC card) interfaces are popular. Make sure device you buy is compatible with your OPERATING system and has software driver available if needed. Many people buy same adapter brand as their wireless router on the assumption they should work well together.

An alternate configuration would be to place wireless router in bedroom connected via ETHERNET cable to modem in basement, and place wireless adapter on basement desktop. Or have ISP provider relocate modem to more convenient location upstairs.

What is Wireless Network
Step-by-Step: Creating a Wireless Network – Part 1Thx for all the info, my laptop is old about 4 years old or more, So i PROBABLY would need a USB and PCMCIA (PC card) interfaces, My main computer desktop is in the basement, and connected to Internet by DSL so external modem is connected to lane-line (AT&T). I'm not sure how good of a signal I'll get from basement to upstairs bedroom or vise-veraI had a problem like that. Here is what I did.
I spent some time finding the best location in my souse for a wireless router.
Next I bought a upgrade from the plhone company that has the modem, the LAN and the wireless all in one.
Any where in the house I can get the wireless signal easy. And so can visitors who bring their own laptops.
But my office is in another building. Too far. So I ran the network cable out there and used a HUB to boost the signal from the network cable. Works fine.

Hint: Buy cable in bulk from a VENDOR that gives you a good discount. The LAN cable can run up to 300 feet and you still get 100 m bps, which is a lot faster than wireless. Beyond 300 feet you need a HUB.

The other way is to use a AP, Access point, to improve the coverage of your wireless. But I do not like that and will leave it to somebody else to explain.

Thx for all the info, my laptop is old about 4 years old or more, So i probably would need a USB and PCMCIA (PC card) interfaces.

That should be USB or PCMCIA interface (not both).

Simplest thing would be "just try it". If you go with the USB interface, it may be used on any computer: desktop or laptop. The PCMCIA interface (PC card) is the size of a credit card and slips into a slot on the laptop. I think there were three different types developed (I, II, III - thickness), so check laptop documentation to see what type of interface it supports.Has anyone tried the wall-plugged network extender kit?Quote from: dahlarbear on September 08, 2009, 05:02:30 AM

Solve : Wi-Fi novice needs help!?

Hi, guys

My wife has need of a LAPTOP and wants to use it with a wi-fi connection but I have no idea what we need or how to go about it. Our present oldish PC (which works fine and which I shall continue to use but not wi-fi connected) is connected to Talktalk broadband with a Talktalk modem.

I obviously have to replace the EXISTING modem but will any wi-fi modem work with Talktalk and how do I then continue to use my existing PC hard wired to broadband?

I have a set up disc from Talktalk but presumably that's no use to set up a wi-fi modem?

Any advice gratefully received.

Thanks.

You need to buy a wireless router and connect the modem to it. Then connect the computer to the router with a wire and the laptop to the router WIRELESSLY. Thanks, guys I think I get it.

Do I need some sort of disc to set up the router, and are all routers pretty much the same? They all come with disks but I never use it because you can just plug it in and it works. Solve : ISDN vs ADSL?

Answer»

A BIG favour anyone, please.
Received a note as follows, sorry it's a bit long, but l'm not really sure of the answer -

I'm thinking of BUYING a new laptop or maybe netbook/ notebook which will be more portable. I live in Greece, so it's difficult to walk into a shop & get decent advice.
I have ISDN at home, not ADSL, so from what I've read on the internet I understand that I'll need Windows XP and not Windows 7 or Vista, as they won't have the drivers for my ISDN box.
I don't mind sticking to ISDN at home and use cables instead of wireless - I don't want the extra expense of ADSL connection as I might be moving soon.
As I'll be visiting the UK soon, is it easy to BRING my new MACHINE and simply "use" a friend's wireless ADSL connection at their home, or do I need to install anything on my machine first? I don't understand quite how it all works, but if they are using ADSL, will my machine just be able to pick it up somehow?

Would really appreciate your expert advice.
Thanks

It depends on whether your friend has WPA or WEP encryption enabled for wireless security. I suggest you ask him about this. If he is using one of these security features, I believe he'll have to provide you the WPA or WEP password so that you can set this up in your computer. You will also need to know EXACTLY which encryption he has enabled, WPA or WEP, and you'll need to select the same type of encryption in your computer. Hi SB,
That gives me something to go on.
Thanks very much.Actually, perhaps you should ask him/her if he'd like to setup the wireless connection in your computer. They might feel more comfortable with that than telling you the password.

I pinged 192.168.1.1 and got a diagnostic box and it asked me which network I wanted to connect to, it has a wired and wireless. I picked wireless and after trying a few different things FINALLY found out how to change the security to WEP. It now connects but is open where others MIGHT see what I'm sending as it was a while back. Go figure. So now your laptop is connected to the network and can use the internet?

If it is, you can go to this site for instructions on how to secure your network. [Link]Yep, I'm sitting about 40 feet away from my PC and connected. I'll check out the site you posted about security, thanks.

Solve : Internet in my room...?

Answer»

I am trying to figure out a way to get some internet out to my room. The bad thing is, that I am staying in my fathers SEPARATED garage that I fixed up into a room while I am in collge (gotta save that money for books!).

We do have wireless in the house, but I am assuming the distance and the fact that the garage has metal siding on it is blocking the signal. If I open my door and sit by the door, I can get a crappy signal, but not enough to be worth messing with.

I guess my main question is, what would be the best way to get a signal out in my room? One option I was thinking of was to run an ethernet cable hardwired from the main house wireless router, to a wireless router in my room. I would need about 50ft of cable to do this and a new router for $40 or so.

I also thought about running a phoneline out to the room. But wouldnt this mean I would need another dsl router, AND a wireless router?

THANKS in advance, and sorry about such a long question.. I look forward to hearing what everyone has to say about this!Quote from: dhampton82 on October 09, 2009, 10:45:20 AM

All you need is the cable. No need for the 2nd router, unless you just want the wireless. CAT5e cable is good for 100 meters.thanks, I do want the wireless in my room as we do have a few labtops, and some times I will be at the desk working on some homework. Sometimes I might just be kicked back on the BED reading some facebook.there is a device ( i don't know it's name ) it's like a memory stick which plugs into your pc and one plugs into your dads pc and sends a signal to your pc , good luck The OP already said he's getting a very weak signal from the wireless router to the wireless notebook.Quote from: Computer_Commando on October 09, 2009, 02:05:08 PM

i know that , , this device is strong and can work up to 100 yards Another option is run the Ethernet wire to the garage and set up a WAP (wireless Access point). This will give u wireless access.Go for then cable. Shop around. Make your own.midsail, thats what I was thinking, Im not sure if I worded it the right way to sound like it.

I ordered a 50 ft ethernet cable off ebay last night for $7 shipped. I plan on picking up a used wireless router off of craiglist next week. I couldnt seem to find any good deals on routers on ebay, so I will just try to keep my money in my town.

I will update this and let everyone know how it turns out in the next week or so when the cable gets here, and I find a router!!

Thanks alot for EVERYONES suggestions!!!I would buy a wireless N adapter and hook it up to a high gain 9 dbi antenna. You could also find 50 dbi antennas on ebay which will give you range of over a mile.Quote

Solve : Need to find out how much seconds will it take to backup?

Answer»

A 100 MEGABIT network is 12.5 Megabytes per second. A Gigabit network is 125 Megabytes per second. I will be BACKING up 700 GB of data from my website and I keed to know how long it will take on a 100MBit FAST Ethernet connection, a Gigabit connection and a 10 Gigabit. Be sure to INCLUDE the calculation to do it.That sounds like a school math question.it does...

Solve : Router Issue?

Answer»

so should I update it then? Also, these have a built in firewall dont they? I assume it has a built-in firewall. When you access the router's setup pages, you'll be able to tell what functional CAPABILITIES the hardware provides.

The decision to update or not update the firmware is yours to MAKE. I have no personal knowledge of the BEFSR1 firmware versions (nor do I want to research them). ah okay then, just wondered for the EXTRA protection since security is lagging for the moment.
