I had a friend recently help me build my current computer, On start up My computer go's thru this 30 sec or so bio's screen. My old computer did not do this so how can I stop this action.Okay its called the BIOS, what is coming up is PROBABLY the post which is normal, unless you are meaning something else. You can disable this by choosing "EXPRESS" or "short" or whatever you particular bios calls it in your bios settings. It sounds LIKE your computer is running full post (Power On Self Test) whenever you turn it on. If it really bothers you, follow the instructions on the screen as it flies by to GET into bios, and set the appropriate action. Your motherboards manual should be able to help.

I'm trying to embed a PowerPoint presentation within a Word DOCUMENT. I'm hoping someone can walk me through how to do this. No one responded to my formatting ISSUE I posted earlier. Perhaps someone can respond to this one?

I know there was a feature in Word 2003 that would enable a user to copy styles from one document to another. I cannot for the life of me find that function in 2007. Anyone know?

If you're trying to copy styles between two documents, you may want to read the below KB article from Microsoft. I'm not sure if it pertains to your particular problem, though.

Microsoft has DEEMED this to be a known bug in the Office Word 2007 program.

The problem is that if you copy text and/or tables from one document to another...the styles are not being transferred.

Their answer to the bug...format the new document. Wouldn't you know it?

Anyway...visit Office Update frequently to see if your software is MISSING any updates which may be applied to your software which may, in fact, fix the problem.

I had a suspicision it was a bug on Microsoft's side but now I know for sure. I have indeed had to format each new document since there's no way to copy formatting anymore. Still bugs me as to why they would take away such a great function when updating Word. Oh well....Glad I could help...

Ok, I was doing my usual Spyware scan and waited for 4 hours for it to finish as there are nearly 600000 files on my computer. I cannot understand why I have so many as the computer is less than 9 months old. My friend only has 150000 files and he has had his computer for over 3 years I often do a disk cleanup and I always delete old files, pictures, music etc when I have no need for it. My operating system is Vista. I really need to reduce the amount of files on my computer as I can't be waiting 4 hours everytime I want to do a scan. Any suggestions? Does anybody else have an excessive amount of files on their computer?

Note: This cleaner should not be used daily. It cleans some of the files Windows needs to function in a speedy manner. Use CCleaner for a daily cleaner.

In the same way that you can hook up a Car engine to a pc and have it tell you exactly what's wrong with the car, is there any such tool/sofftware that can tell you what's wrong with your pc? EG., let's say you are having trouble with a cd rom, can the tool/software tell you where the trouble is? The program will copy specific ROWS
when the cells in colum B equals those in column C,
and then it will paste the specific rows of data somewhere in the same worksheet.
The program works but it returns empty cells.

put a path to the image (d:\program files\plus\themes\john.ico) as a value for "default", and "empty", and a path to different image as "full" value. Don't forget about quotation marks.

I link Excel cell values to the associated Word document. I copy in Excel then go Paste Special>Past link>unformatted text and that PLACES the Excel value in the doc. I can then change the cell value and the doc value changes accordingly. That has worked for numerous occasions when I have changed the cell value shortly after putting the link in place. I have Office 2000 and 'Copy Excel data and charts to Word or PowerPoint' does not come up on that. In past, I use ADOBE Acrobat Reader 5.0.5 to copy text and table from Non-copy protected pdf files.

Recently I upgrade to Abode Reader 8.0. In that, I can't find COLUMN SELECT Tool. Only Text Selection Tool is available. But it present in the version 5.0.5.

Cannot select anything from drop down menus without the menu jumping around and going back to the top, as WELL all my pictures move around in my pic file and I cannot select a picture to upload, menu bar moves always back to the top. Whenever I start to play a song,you can see it in the now playing SECTION, but there is an X that pops up where the Play symbol should be. I recently had an operating system meltdown on our desktop so I bought a new hard drive and re-installed the O.S. on the new drive with the intention of copying my documents, programs etc. off the old disc. All went to plan until I tried to access my documents, I get 'access denied' and the folder reports it is empty.

Is this because my account on the desktop was admin. and password protected? and if so, is there a way I can get access to all my settings, profiles again? HELP!!

I echo Patio's comments, you can never tell when your hard drive will suffer a catastrophic failure and you really need backup files. A half decent POWER surge or lightning strike could fry every component in your box.

I recently was given a new-ish computer and i'm trying to get most of my important files from my old one onto it.

I made copies of the .dbx store files from Outlook Express 6 on my old computer and transferred them via-flash drive onto my new computer. I've put them in a random folder in My Documents but when I try to import them into OE6 on my new computer it keeps giving me an error message. The .dbx files aren't read-only and I'm pretty sure there aren't any other apps using them when I try to import them, so I have no idea what to do next...

Any help will be greatly appreciated. What is the error message? Did you NAVIGATE to the folder containing the .dbx files when you tried the Import procedure? Explain step-by-step how you attempted to import.I did. The typical procedure on the internet says to copy the old .dbx files and then save them to a new folder under My Documents. Once one has opened OE6, one SELECTS the Import option under File and chooses Messages, then Microsoft OE6. Then one selects the Import from Store Folder option and goes from there.

Whenever I browsed through the folders and chose the one with the .dbx files in it, it would give me an error msg saying that the folder either had no msgs in it or that the .dbx files were being used by ANOTHER application.

I DOUBLE checked that they weren't read-only and I kept trying in vain. Then I was reading through a forum on another website and it said that one needed to also copy the folders.dbx file for the import to work. I did as it said, and the Import Wizard was able to go a step further with the process, but I still had no luck..

FINALLY I found this other solution that read:

"Create a new folder in Outlook Express named "temp". Copy any message into the new Temp folder. Close OE and rename "Temp.dbx" in your OE store folder. Now copy the *.dbx to be imported into the store folder and rename it to "Temp.dbx". Open OE and rename the Temp folder if desired."

I'm using Outlook 2002 (not Outlook explorer) to get email from my server and it only seems to allow RECEIVE from the Inbox.
How would I get it to receive from the sent folder in my verizon email?
Most appreciative of any and all suggestions/answers, JCSo, you have a POP email account setup in Outlook for your Verizon email account. RIGHT? And, you sometimes log onto your Verizon account and send new messages via WEBMAIL, as apposed to always SENDING from Outlook. Right?

What you WANT, which is synchronization between Outlook and Verizon of all folders in your Verizon email, simply is not feature of POP email. You can accomplish such synchronization with an IMAP email account, as opposed to POP, but doubt Verizon offers it. At least, I could not find any indication they offer IMAP.

Gmail, Google's free email feature, does offer IMAP as an option.

Ive got a situation going on either in my computer or msn hotmail. All my emails that I have sent to PEOPLE in the LAST mouth r being sent to a friend of mine. It seems someone is spying on me. But how is this done? I have SCANNED my pc with Norton 2007 and spybot and both programs have found nothing. Is there anything I can do to stop this? Is it just my 1 msn thats been comprimised? If I make a new msn do these people see everything I do too? Are they in my pc or just msn? I dont no how they r doing this and i really dont want to no I just want to feel safe.

lol, this should have been the FIRST step- although I suppose if a keylogger has found their way onto the comp any new password could be compromised...

I don't understand why spyware is always the first thing suspected when somebody's personal information is discovered by a third party.

In conversation with a friend the other day, the idea of saving his digital pictures to DVD came up. Having no experience with this, I thought I'd ask here.

He has accumulated quite a few pictures. Not professional.... just family stuff.

It would be nice to burn them to DVD, such that they would be able to be viewed without a computer, from any typical DVD player. Slideshow maybe? or flip through them using the remote somehow? .... again, I have no experience with this.

I'm thinking that accomplishing this should not be a big deal.

Is there freeware out there that will do the job? Any recommendations?
(I'm googling a bit, and finding a lot of commercial software that says it will do it. And it also looks to have a lot of EXTRA features/options)

Hopefully there are some out there with experience with this. All advice and comments welcomed.

Don't do much picture album work but i bet they've got some fine Free tools for it...Many DVD players today supports displaying images without you having to do anything to them. I.e. just burn them to a disc and the DVD player will be able to display them.
If the DVD player doesn't support pictures (if it's an older player for example) I believe the pictures will have to be converted to MPEG-2 video. This will seriously degrade the quality of most pictures, since they will be downsized to standard DVD resolution. (720×480 NTSC or 720×576 PAL).
While the pictures would look good on any SD TV they wouldn't on a computer screen or HD TV.
So your friend may want to consider how compatible he wants this picture disc to be.You might want to spice the photo's up a bit in a slide show with transitions, and sounds into a video type display. After a power interuption when I restart my computer it goes through the boot process and when it gets to the desktop it restarts and goes on with this loop until I am quick enough to hit the START menu, turn off computer and then restart. To prevent this in the future...you may want to look into purchasing an Uninterrupted Power Supply (UPS). A good ONE starts at about $100...I got mine from APC. It's a combination battery backup and surge suppressor...just for situations such as yours...where a power interruption could DAMAGE your SYSTEM. It's a good investment and will give you plenty of time to save what you've been working on, so you can safely shut down your computer.

With the above in mind...do you currently use a surge suppressor? If you do...please remove it...and try turning your computer back on to see if you're still experiencing the same problem. Sometimes surge suppressors can fail after a major spike such as what you've described, or from a lightning strike.

There may be the possibility your hard drive was affected when this happened and has CAUSED corruption of some of your boot files...causing the computer to loop at boot.

I assume you are creating an invitation, what software is it?Im using microsoft office word 2007 and I've written invite details in a txt box then put another text box around it as a guideline for cutting it outLooking at Word 2003 here. I see no need to insert a text box within a text box. Merely clicking on the text box button on Word's Drawing toolbar (menu ENTIRELY different in Word 2007, of COURSE) one time creates a box within box. The outer box would be invisible unless you format it to choose other colors and type for Line and choose a FILL color.

If you wan't to make a backup of single value(s)

I was just making sure i have got this right.
you rename the original value
(ie) RegisteredOwner REG_SZ Stevens (oringinal value)
cm_RegisteredOwner REG_SZ Stevens (renamed)
then you add a new value using the original name and type, but with the new data.
(ie) RegisteredOwner REG_SZ Rowley
I take that is a new string value from the edit menu.

Then i persume you have made a backup of the value

Anyway here is a quote from the book

The easiest way to leave a way out if things go wrong is to make backup COPIES of values before
changing them.
Here's how to do it: Rename the original value to SOMETHING like Initials_Name, where Initials is your
initials, and Name is the value's original name. Add a date if you think you're going to change the
value often. Then add a new value using the original name and type, but with new data.
Alternatively, create a new value of the same type as the value you're changing, but with a new
name. Copy the original value's data to the clipboard, and then paste it in to the new value. You're
all set to change the value, and if you don't like the result, you can restore the original value with

hello my friend, i just think the problem will be with the power flow or the Ram are not compatable with the motherboard.Try to change the RAM and see if it will boot and work normally.

i went into the c:drive to remove a lot of files and rubbish but i cannot remove ( contactcool.cache ) cache files

when i click them it comes up , " windows cannot open and does not recconize them "

but i KNOW they are from contacts on msn

is there a download with which i can open them and a download with which i can delete them

i feel they are taking up space and are not needed

try BOOTING computer to the safe mode and attempt deleting from there. contactcoll.cache (two "L") is Vista Contacts file used by Live MESSENGER/Live Mail
If you use any of those programs, I wouldn't try to delete it.I seriously doubt they take up much space at all...Besides....

I'm trying to use DFS Management to manage the DFS on my Windows Server 2003 R2 server. However, it seems that whatever I touch the thing blows up on me. I looked at the event viewer and GOT the attached application errors.

The key line, I BELIEVE, is : -

MMC.exe, 5.2.3790.3959, kernel32.dll, 5.2.3790.4062, 0000bee7

Has anyone had this before? If so, how do I fix it?

Do a search for nLite and SETTING up an unattended install of XP.
The MSFN Forums have a good amount of material on this procedure and there are other TOOLS other than nLite...
