Solve : COM PORT & Keyboard??? |
Answer» I can't seem to find this problem anywhere so I'm hoping somebody here can help me! Up until yesterday, my com port on my Panasonic Toughbook CF-52 was working hunky dory nice. A coworker was using it to troubleshoot and then it happened....the terminal emulation screen went blank and you could no longer type anything to the terminal emulation program. I uninistalled the terminal emulation program, reinstalled it - no good. I was able to narrow down that it is not the terminal emulation program (I tried 3 of them with the same results - hyperterm, Procomm and cryptoterm) but the fact that I when I type, no letters appear on the emulation screen. I uninstalled the com port (I'm on com port 1), rebooted the laptop and the com port was reinstalled but the same issue appears over and over and over - I cannot type to any device using com 1. I tried changing the keyboard types on the emulation programs to no avail. I know the com port works because I can see the OS of my cisco 3750 switch loading just fine but when it comes time for me to start configuring - nada, nothing comes on the screen. |

I have a 10 inch Arnova G2 that runs Androde Gingerbread and I know you can't go on Hulu I tryed. What browser were you using to access Hulu?I don't know what Browser my Tablet uses it is an Arnova G2 Androde Gingerbread. It just has an Icone that says Browser and I Tap it and it opens? What is this Hulu APP you gave me a link to is it a Browser or what? I am NEW to this?I would think its an official app by Hulu that allows you to... well.. watch Hulu faster...No I MENT is it a Plug In for the Browser I have on my Tablet? Or do I open the APP befor I go to Hulu or what? You open the app and watch Hulu inside the app.Is it a free APP and do I have to pay Hulu or can I use it the same way I use my iE on my Descktop to watch Hulu it is free? The app I linked to is free, but Hulu says, "Watch TV Now. Only $7.99 a month. No commitment." So I guess you are logging into Hulu through the app with your subscription's username and password. Hulu.com is not available in my country, so I don't know if there are any additional steps you might need to take, but since the app is free... why not download it and give it a try? |

Solve : Big Computer Problem? |
Answer» Hello,
Buy and fit a new hard drive and reinstall Windows. Yeah, I was thinking I might have to do that. A couple of questions though. I read in other places that if I reinstall Windows on a new hard drive, and then connect/install the other (broken) hard drive, there might be a chance for me to copy the files from it. I have an external hard drive. Is there a way for me to install Windows on the external hard drive and have the computer boot from that? My next question is: What service would you recommend to recover my files on the broken hard drive? Thanks. -Tom Quote from: CAFANTOM on May 11, 2010, 01:47:22 PM Is there a way for me to install Windows on the external hard drive and have the computer boot from that? The short answer is, you cannot install windows on an external hard drive. Quote My next question is: What service would you recommend to recover my files on the broken hard drive? If you mean a data recovery software package, I think this will be a waste of money. That disk is dead. The files have gone to heaven. unless -- maybe! -- you USE a data recovery company. I cannot recommend any particular one, I do not even know what country you live in. They are very very expensive. Hundreds or thousands of dollars. I would think that you were a serious person, if instead of just posting to tell me how wrong I am, you actually posted good clear step by step instructions showing how to do this. Solve : Added a second internal HDD and keeps failing formatting? |
Answer» I added a second internal HDD and when WINDOWS reminded me that it was still not formatted, I let windows format it. It keeps failing the format process and I was wondering how else to go about this? Can I use the fdisk utility at the command PROMT? If so what STEPS do I take?Use Windows Disk Management to create partition and then you can format. How are you trying to format it? And are you doing a "full" format as opposed to a "quick" format? If not, do a FULL format, which will check the disk for ERRORS and repair any it finds. |

Solve : Free Space Wiping? |
Answer» What does free space wiping do?When you delete a file in Windows, all you are really doing is deleting the "pointer" in the Master File Table. The data or file remains exactly as it was and where it was, but Windows doesn't know how to find it without the pointer. When you use an app to "wipe" the free space as you put it, it overwrites the file with zeros so the data is actually no longer on top of the disc. |

Solve : ethernet port dead?? |
Answer» Hi, I've been setting up the system in my sig/specs, and it functions flawlessly EXCEPT that the internet doesn't work. The system is a hand-me-down, which originally belonged to my father, was passed to my brother, and is now in my possession. I should note that I'm very familiar with this system, because I assembled it for both my father and my brother. ...Both XP and Linux recognize the ethernet port, and in the Device Manager XP says it's working and the drivers are loaded. It keeps telling me that a network cable is unplugged (it isn't--and the problem is neither the cable nor the router port, because the cable works with my laptop). Also, the POST says something about "via rhine fast ethernet controller media test failure." Also, the ethernet port doesn't light up and blink with the cable plugged in...Try reinstalling the latest "via rhine fast ethernet controller" drivers. http://www.via.com.tw/en/support/drivers.jsp Make sure you choose the correct Rhine chip. |

Solve : 9500 GT problem? |
Answer» Hello,i have 9500 GT GDDR3 and from today it goes with tremple screen,i tried my monitor on ANOTHER pc,works fine. Thanks Kurtiskain Was the card new or used? If it is new, send it back for a replacement, if not then I would turn off the computer, leaving the power cord in BUT MAKE sure you switch it off at the wall, this will ground it. Take off the side panel carefully and check the graphics card fan for dust or debri, if it is clean, power the machine up and ensure the fan spins. Do not touch anything while it is running If the cooling is OK, then the card is definately broken, and nothing short of shop repair can fix it.Nikolasr, maybe try swapping graphics card from the working PC into the PC in question and see if monitor is displaying stuff ok again. If that works ok, I think you can probably safely say that it is probably a graphics card error. |

Solve : External Esata Hard drive? |
Answer» I got a new external HDD today and it has both esata and usb connections. ...Any ideas, I'm using vista 64 bit on a HP pavillion 5000. I do wonder if the esata cables faulty as it's a 2 metre one...Desktop or laptop? When using eSATA, how is the external drive getting power? What kind of esata cable? They NEED to be shielded. SATA (left) and eSATA (right) connectorsI would try another cable... 2 metres is almost at the limit also...laptop, and yes it's getting power and is shielded.Quote from: woop19 on June 09, 2010, 04:50:32 PM laptop, and yes it's getting power and is shielded.I repeat, how is the external drive getting power? OR Where is it getting it's power from? It's not from the eSATA cable.Sorry didn't realise what you meant there, it has it's own power supply which is all plugged in and functioning normally, i can hear the hard drive spinning and it operates nomally under usb. It's actually a normal hard drive in an enclosure as opposed to a external hard disk drive. Hope that cleared that up.Yes, that helps. 2.5" or 3.5" drive in a 3rd party enclosure. Who makes the enclosure? Some of those FAIL to use a shielded port. It's a 3.5" seagate 500gb, in an enclosure made by sumvision called apex plus. Edit: Ive got it, it was the esata cable it works when in a very precise position and flickers on and off when it's not. Thanks anyway, you've been amazing.I have an INTERNAL SATA that does the same thing. Insert a piece of paper or thin plastic between the plug & connector to tighten it up. Put it on the inside of the connector opposite the connection tabs. Play around with it, you'll figure out the best place. |

Solve : much older HD on a new MB.? |
Answer» http://www.superwarehouse.com/Western_Digital_Caviar_200GB_Hard_Drive/WD2000JD/p/319167 this is the older hard drive i have. used XP with it. the system it was in the CPU fried. have been TOLD that i couldn't use it with this new motherboard. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?item=N82E16813131654 i am looking at getting a newer hard drive. but there is a lot of data on the old one that i want to recover. if i can not use it with the new board, then what are my options for recovering the data? You will not have any problem. Er...;shh, I mean you don't have to have a problem. You have to understand what you are doing. Do you have another computer around to help you recover the data? The windows OS will have to be installed again. Best idea is to back a backup of all the data on the drive before you try to install the Windows XP OS. I mean to say that is my humble opinion about the matter. Please do NOT try to install XP until we get some more information from you. Do you have a Retail version of Windows XP and the COA product key? Unfortunately i do not have another system work with. i still have the much older XP and key. If i use the old hard Western Digital HD i shouldn't need to re install the OS should i? I should be able to plug it into the new board and go, correct? What other information do you need, if any? Thanks for the assistance Quote from: freedom07 on June 06, 2010, 12:10:49 AM If i use the old hard Western Digital HD i shouldn't need to re install the OS should i? I should be able to plug it into the new board and go, correct? No. Not correct. The Windows install process builds an installation for the hardware it finds at install time. If you take the hard drive and put it in another PC, it almost certainly won't work, (unless the hardware is identical) and even then Windows would probably need re activation. Follow Geek-9pm's guidance. good morning, first of all, do not do anything until you have a plan. We assume that you did not make a backup copy of everything before your old motherboard died. So then your data is on your old hard drive and you want to preserve that data and also reinstall the Windows operating system. The possibility of doing a Greek pair install is probably less than 50% success rate. Your new motherboard is very cool and has most likely a very different chipset than your older board. So the plan is to figure out some way to install Windows on your old hard drive without destroying the data. Here is a plan. Contact somebody locally I can talk you through this and provide you some additional material you might need. You will need to have some kind of storage media. Preferably a small hard drive that can be used for a temporary installation. Windows XP can be installed even on a small 10 GB hard drive. If you can make or borrow or buy a usable 10 GB hard drive you can do the installation on that hard drive. During the installation you will not repeat not have the old drive hooked to the motherboard. He will do a complete new installation on a borrowed hard drive. After the new installation is complete and working at all the drivers have been PROPERLY installed and everything looks good, you will power down the system, slave your old Western Digital Dr. and booted back up and you should see all your data still in place. Once you get to that point you can decide what you want to do next. So go find a hard drive somewhere. And yes, it could be done on a USB stick, but that gets complicated. Just go find an old hard drive somewhere. but not repeat not a hard drive that has the only copy of your data on. Talk to you later byewant to make sure i understand. use a different hard drive to install the OS on. After i install the OS and everything is good, then i would plug in the hard drive that has the data i wish to recover? basically the second drive would become the slave of the first one, is that correct? i may be repeating some of what you said, but i am wanting to make sure i don't misunderstand anything. I had planned on using Windows 7 on the new system i build. Until i recover the data i want, should i use the XP OS? Then once i have recovered it change to 7? Why not simply connect the drive to a working machine to save your data ? ? Geek's method is a bit of overkill... See This...that was my initial thought. But when i was told by a friend that because it was a 6 year old hard drive. that it would not work with the new mother board i was going to get. Due to the old SATA compared to SATA 4.0 now i believe it is. i didn't see how that made much of a difference but that's why I'm asking you guys, to make sure. Would i be best to plug it into a system that used XP. or would it work just as well with 7? i do appreciate the assistance. Quote from: freedom07 on June 06, 2010, 11:27:15 AM i was told by a friend that because it was a 6 year old hard drive. that it would not work with the new mother board i was going to get. If I had 1 euro for every false thing that people were told by a "friend", I would be rich. The drive is SATA, the board has 6 SATA 6 GB/S ports. Why should it not work? The designers of SATA aimed for backward and forward compatibility with future revisions of the SATA standard. From the link Patio gave: Quote Data Recovery Tutorial: How to Slave a Hard Drive With SATA you put the second drive in the second port. And check in the BIOS to see that it is indeed the second device and the first device is the boot . You said you do not have another system you can use. So start your build with another drive, install Windows 7 and go from there. Don't put the old drive in until you are sure everything is good with your new build. The file system is NFTS on the old drive. Windows 7 would not have any problem reading data from it. And of course, we never plug and unplug internal components unless the power cord is removed from the PSU. The programs installed on the old XP system are, for the most part, not portable. That means the will not run in Windows 7 until you re install them. There is no problem using one drive as a system drive and another as a data drive. People do it all the time. Slight increase in power CONSUMPTION and heat . Along with slight increase in performance. To over simplify things as Salmon illustrated SATA ports have been backwards compatible since Day 1... To slave the drive hook it up to any port numbered 2 or higher...or 3. Geek please stop making every issue more complicated than it really is...i greatly appreciate all of the assistance thank you. Once i get the parts i will do that. i didn't know that the SATA connections where backwards compatible. If i had known that would have saved me some fear about loosing everything Quote from: freedom07 on June 06, 2010, 06:30:16 PM i didn't know that the SATA connections where backwards compatible. If i had known that would have saved me some fear about loosing everything For computers, while there are some notable exceptions, usually if you can plug it in, it can work; For example, you can use a USB 1.0 device with most USB 2.0 hubs and ports, you can use a ATA-66 hard drive on a motherboard with a ATA-133 controller, and so on. Of course it's important to check first with a quick search, there are some cases where you can plug it in, but it work, and might even cause DAMAGE. (only case I can think of where something can be damaged involve proprietary power supplies)BC_Programmer , please stop making every issue more complicated than isn't. Quote from: Geek-9pm on June 07, 2010, 12:39:50 PM BC_Programmer ,Actually, I commend him; he explained it very succinctly, without the use of the word "basically". |

Solve : Wireless network suddenly slow?? |
Answer» So, my desktop computer (which has connectivity issues on and off; it's been about a year since my last bout), started being real slow on the internet. I'm getting ~30k/s average, with spikes of around 100k and 0.3k. I was messing around with Ubuntu a bit (still earning; great OS, but steep learning curve), and tried out the shutdown command. As expected, the computer shut down. I quickly started the computer again (< 5 sec after power down). When the system came back online, it was very reluctant to connect to my router, and painfully slow network speeds (slower than it is now). I have rebooted, shut down for 5 MIN, and tried the wireless in windows 7; same result every time. Interestingly, the wireless was far slower in windows than in Ubuntu (figured I screwed linux up somehow as I'm very prone to do). The connectivity problem went away after the computer initially connected to the router, quickly connecting to it after every reboot (except for after having rebooted the router itself; that took a bit longer than usual to reconnect). Check the PSU because his internet speeds are slow??? Yeah, duh, like he says, you check the obvious first. slow wireless network speeds are almost always caused by PSU issues! On that note, the "obvious" thing to check here is to see if the same problem occurs with a wired connection. If so, then it be the PSU, purposely sending the wrong amount of current to the specific network devices it wants to affect, somehow leaving RAM, CPU, and all the other devices completely untouched, which is impossible anyway since the VRM on the motherboard steps down the DC and routes it to the PCI devices. Or, it could be a hardware issue- or, given that Linux still has faster speeds, a software one. Of course, if the wired connection works perfectly fine, then it's probably zebras. then it's probably an issue with the wireless card hardware, signal, or it's antenna. Or, of course, the software (what drivers are you using on Windows and Linux?) My apologies...I posted in the wrong thread No I didn't, this is the right thread ....getting kinda late I guess. Did any of you guys read the second thread? The part where he disconnects the monitor and Presto! he's back up to speed! No clues there?Quote from: Allan on June 07, 2010, 10:05:05 AM Check the PSU because his internet speeds are slow???Good Point! Those PUS testers ... NEVER... check for Zebras. Quote from: Sodde on June 07, 2010, 08:17:39 PM No I didn't, this is the right thread ....getting kinda late I guess.I cannnot find anything said that fits that description. Seems to me that the other thread says it only works when both monitors are connected: Quote Short version; I have two monitors, and when both of them are on, I have no problems with the network, but if I deactivate the second monitor in the system, I can barely maintain a connection with my wireless router. Considering that... Does it exhibit the same behaviour in Ubuntu?Rapid_Dissent says > "So, just to humor myself, I decided to test and see if it was the same problem as last year (PSU dying on me), and sure enough, as soon as I disabled the second monitor, the internet sprung right back to life as though nothing had ever been wrong". How is the second monitor being disabled?Disabling the monitor has absolutely no effect on power supply performance. Solve : :) New External Hard Drive? |
Answer» I finally bought an external hard drive for my poor little lap top that has almost choked on its C drive. 1. How can I make sure I'm deleting from the C drive everything related to the game I successfully installed on my E drive? I tried... Most games have save files stored in "My Documents..." wouldn't it be better to reinstall the games you want on your external drive and then just uninstall them from your computer, and then put the save file in its new location wherever the new game INSTALL specifies? All the moving of files will eventually get you confused... Quote from: Starwind51 on December 27, 2011, 05:13:38 PM 2. For all the other games, how do I make sure I've gathered up anything I "moved" to flash drives, in case they're my only copy of a file? How do I get all of a game's files back in one place on the C drive in case that's the only way to get the executable game onto the E drive?the setup.exe is your friend... If I moved a single file out of a massive game collection and then came back a few months later I would be having a hard time testing each and every game for a missing DLL...So I suggest you start all over again, i.e. reinstall all the games that you can remember you have moved files out of... You can do what I do with my games-just create an ISO of your game install disc and save it to a folder on your hard drive. That way you won't have to worry about losing or damaging your fragile setup disc. These are games that didn't come from a disk, just a download from the game website - Puzzle Inlay, Alchemy (don't laugh), that sort of thing. If I lost some of them I wouldn't cry, I would just be out the money. The more complex games I'll leave on the C drive (at least until I know I can install them on the E), but aside from games I don't know of much else I can get off the C. Almost all my personal files and photos I took off already, and my biggest program, MS Streets and Trips I'll leave on the C. But right now I only have 867 MB free. I know I can't really assume that if a game I had on the C and now have on the E drive is fully installed just because it starts playing well, I have to go with it. But I still have files with some of these game names on the C. Sometimes it's because I or a remote technician make copies of the games, some are the result of me trying to move the games and trying to move them back. So I really want to gather up the junk and delete it. Off hand I would say I have about 10 original games, at most. |

Answer» Quote from: rthompson80819 on June 08, 2010, 04:46:28 PM Hey, my car's GAS gauge is almost on empty, should I buy a new car? YES! Buy a new car so i can have your old one The OP did ask about buying a new computer. Be fair.A new computer is ALWAYS going to be better and faster that what ever you have now. WHENEVER you should buy a new computer depends on what you really need. If you primarily do email and web surfing an older computer will do fine. If you are a heavy duty gamer, you will need to either buy a new computer frequently, or upgrade often. I remember a cartoon SEVERAL YEARS ago. A customer was buying a computer at a check out counter, and at the end of the check out counter was a trash can, meaning by the time you paid for the computer it was already out of date. |

Solve : Ahhhh....this is crazy!!? |
Answer» Okay here is the problem.. I started my desktop (HP Pavalion a6300f) the other day and it did not load. It started to make one short beep and then one long one. so I went to the computer shop and he told me I had to upgrade my RAM memory. So I did and still nothing, so I took my CPU to him and he did some test while I went to work. I came back and he told me I needed to buy a new motherboard. Is this true? Is their anything I can try first? If I have to buy a new motherboard where can I buy one and which one's are compatibly with my system. I know it is a lot of questions but I am lost. Thank-you for any advice that is given in advance. If I need a new motherboard what is a good site to find out what is compatible with my computer. Thanks!! |

Solve : Get into BIOS with USB keyboard?? |
Answer» To be as brief as possible...I need to get to the BIOS screen, but I have only a USB keyboard. The ps2 on my computer is fried and I have to use the USB. I can get into safe/mode with the USB keyboard, but I don't know how to get nto the BIOS screen. I can't tap keys to get into it at start up, EVEN in safe/mode. That does not work. Please, any help with this? Do you have one or two fried PS/2 ports? Are they turned off in the BIOS or what happened.Very often there is a setting in bios to activate (toggle) USB at boot. But he needs to get into the bios to check that setting........Quote from: Allan on April 25, 2010, 09:01:49 AM For now you can use a usb to ps2 adapter if you like ...That assumes the keyboard supports adapters; some don't. Same goes for mice. The adapters don't work. I bought one for each USB keyboard I have. The keyboard lights flicker rapidly, but the keys don't function. The same thing happens with the ps2 keyboard. It's apparent to me that the port is fried . That's why I can't get to the BIOS with the keyboard. The closest computer store is 600 miles due south. I had just hoped that you may know of a WAY to get there from safe/mode, or any other way, for that matter. I find it incredulous that tapping certain keys at startup is the only way to get into the BIOS. No wonder there are so many engineer jokes on the internet!Quote from: jwfilion on April 25, 2010, 12:01:32 PM The adapters don't work. When you think about it, it is the most practical way. With the old IBM PS/2 range (nothing to do with the PS2 games thing) you had to start the machine with a special floppy disk. Essentially, your motherboard is shot. Why would the motherboard be shot? The only thing that does not work properly on the computer is the keyboard ps2 port. Even the mouse ps2 port works, though I use a USB mouse. Indeed, the only reason I wanted into the BIOS was to see if the USB legacy was turned on. I am going to install a USB 2 pci card when it gets here. Anyway, thanks for the help.Quote from: jwfilion on April 25, 2010, 04:27:50 PM Why would the motherboard be shot? The only thing that does not work properly on the computer is the keyboard ps2 port. Even the mouse ps2 port works, though I use a USB mouse. If the mouse PS2 port still works, you can get a Y-cable for keyboard & mouse. OR Reset BIOS (remove battery for 10 minutes), power up computer with USB keyboard attached and BIOS may enable legacy support. This thread has puzzled me from the start. There are some machines made today with no PS/2 ports, only USB ports, so why would a USB keyboard have a problem getting into the BIOS? I've NEVER seen a PS/2 port go bad, although I'm sure they do sometimes, and I've never changed a keyboard from PS/2 to USB. I have however changed several mice from PS/2 to USB and never had any issues or the need to get into the BIOS. I don't know why the keyboard would be that much different than a mouse. Personally, if I have the option between PS/2 and USB for keyboards and mice, I'll go with PS/2 every time. I would try CC's recommendations first, but if those don't work, then there is something else going on.Quote from: rthompson80819 on April 25, 2010, 09:37:58 PM There are some machines made today with no PS/2 ports, only USB ports, so why would a USB keyboard have a problem getting into the BIOS? If an older machine has both USB and PS/2 ports and the bios either (a) does not have USB legacy support or (b) it is turned off, and this is the default, and the PS/2 port is fried, then the BIOS is effectively inaccessible. A modern machine with USB only is certain to have USB legacy support. Quote I've never seen a PS/2 port go bad, although I'm sure they do sometimesething else going on. I have; a bad keyboard can fry the the port through excessive current drain. Yes, I do have an older machine with both port types. A friend came over last year to use mine. She had a business to tend to and her machine was out being repaired. She brought her own keyboard, one of those FANCY ergonomic ones. My computer hasn't been the same since. I ordered one of those Y-cables and will give that a try. Thanks all. |

Answer» Quote from: darcomputer on December 24, 2011, 02:57:00 PM which HD should i use and is everyone sure it's not the motherboard tyvm and happy holiday A 3.5 inch SATA hard drive. You pick the size. The ticking is a big hint. If you want, take it to a repair shop. Quote from: darcomputer on December 24, 2011, 02:57:00 PM which HD should i use and is everyone sure it's not the motherboard tyvm and happy holiday It depends on where you want to purchase it and how MUCH you want to spend and how many GB you want. Would Suggest taking a look at the HD you have already. If you could get a hold of a spare HD with Sata connections. Maybe borrow it from a friend or another computer you would know for sure. Motherboard most likely will be pricier and not as easy to replace. Start with the most obvious. It is easy enough to replace the HD yourself. No need to take it to a repair shop. They will charge you an arm and a leg. Just google, "how do I replace/install a sata HARDRIVE" Just make sure you unplug everything before you open the case and ground yourself by touching the metal case to avoid static electricity. http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=7281716&Sku=TSD-500AAKXQuote from: IowaMrs on December 24, 2011, 03:16:02 PM No need to take it to a repair shop. When I suggested he did that, I was picking up on this remark made by the OP... Quote is everyone sure it's not the motherboard The answer is, of course, "No, of course we're not 100% sure. We are in Europe, Australia, Idaho, Kamchatka, wherever. We are going on what you told us. It's Christmas Eve. Santa is coming. We cannot ACTUALLY see or TOUCH your computer. However we think it probably is the hard drive. However, if you don't feel confident about the advice you are getting here, take it to a repair shop." But I wrote it in a shorter FORM, using less words, and kind of expected the reader to grasp the underlying message. Perhaps I was mistaken... i understand. i have winxp and support is ending i believe around june next year. i am tired of pc after 20 years and want to get a mac. question is, is there a harddrive i can buy for my broken desktop pc xp pro computer for now and then switch it over to a mac computer, i have no idea about macs. tyvm i did a search and all i got were external drives and i just now figured out why i think, mac is all-in-one so could i get an external harddrive for the xp and then plug it into a new mac? am going to see if i can get my broken harddrive fixed, cheapest solution i can find |

Solve : Roland SCC-1 question? |
Answer» Would it be worth it to install a second Roland SCC-1 MIDI card into the old computer where I installed one earlier this year? The Roland SCC-1 has a maximum polyphony of 24 voices, and I'm WONDERING if I might be able to install a duplicate SCC-1 on the exact same SETTINGS of I/0 336 and IRQ 3. Since the MPU-401 Windows driver is already installed and using those settings for the SCC-1, I don't think there'd be a problem. (Of course, I'd have to connect the midi cards to each other using their midi ports.) Would installing a duplicate card increase the maximum polyphony or would it not? I need to know this in advance before searching for one in the future. As of now there isn't one on eBay, and I'd like to know if one of you guys has one you could sell to me at some point. I can't buy one right now as I don't have the money.I don't think this would work.... since if you have them both on the same IRQ/DMA/etc, they will be receiving the same MIDI instructions, and therefore their internal state (such as used voice buffers) will be the same. You can install them separately, but I don't think you would double the number of voices you can have.Would I need to put the cards on different IRQs and/or Input/Outputs then? I'd have to look into it and make sure that there's free IRQs available on the computer. While I may be able to take advantage of this in Windows using a Custom midi setup, this probably won't work in DOS games as I'll be FORCED to use one card or the other. |

Solve : My monitor is too dark.? |
Answer» I have an HP monitor. The number on the front of it is HP w2408h. For computer stuff it's fine. Watching YouTube is fine. But, for movies, or TV, I usually have to tilt the monitor forward(by putting something underneath the rear of the base). Doing this makes the image lighter because I usually sit back when watching movies. I've tried the brightness controls on the monitor but they only do so much. Again, this is only for movies that are dark to begin with. Like, I was watching Iron Man 2 and the SECOND part of the movie is mostly at night and it's very hard to watch. But, this is also a problem with VLC media player. I know there are controls for interlace and stuff like that but I'm not SURE which ones to try. MAINLY, I just want the picture much light and the darks to APPEAR brighter. Take off your sunglasses. |

Solve : Viewing computer on TV Screen? |
Answer» Hello~ What's the plug on the TV, is it a standard VGA, or something else?Yes, there is a standard VGA port for the normal blue monitor cables There is also spots labled PC/HDMI Audio IN HDMI 1/2 and the standard ones for the cable. Yes the TV is HD, and as far as I know, my video card is something like Radeon x1300 Lol Thanks for the responses and any other ones. The TV will display until Windows begins loading. Once in Windows, you need to use the Catalyst Control Center (CCC, for ATI) or Windows display properties to activate and set the screen to what you want it to be. If you want Windows to ALWAYS display on the TV first, and only on the TV, then set the OPTION with the TV as the primary monitor, and set it as single view. If you want Windows to use your desktop monitor as the main and the TV as the second with a desktop that spans both screens, set the desktop monitor as the primary and select extended desktop mode. If you want the same display on both the TV and the monitor, set the monitor as primary and select clone mode.Very helpful, thank you. I"ll have to try that next time ^^ |

Solve : Nvidia 197.16 known issue question? |
Answer» Every once in a while the Nvidia driver will stop working and either recover or I will get a blue screen with what seems to be memory range errors. On the device, however, it shows no conflicting devices or any other problem. The temperature is fine as usually it fails while idling. Strangely I've never had it fail while working. Could it be that its memory or the memory that it's sharing is bad somehow. Windows 7, any thoughts, perhaps solutions? More IMPORTANTLY, I'm wondering if multiple memory dumps/ blue screens could PERMANENTLY damage my system or card. This rarely happens so if it doesn't eventually lead down a "dead" END path, I'm fine with the error, but this seems horrible that so many people have this problem and it seems to be hardware or deep in someone else's software conflicting with nvidia and ATI, if it were their fault, they'd be able to FIX it fast : ( lol, I wish it were their fault.Did this start after you updated the driver? If so, roll back.Nope, it happened before. |

Solve : Can't install my new graphics card.? |
Answer» I just received the GRAPHICS card I just ordered, EVGA GeForce 9800 GT, but I can't install it. I have the proper port, power supply, ROOM, and WHATNOT but it's the mounting bracket (correct name?). I'm not big with computer hardware so I didn't notice this when I got my computer for xmas of '08 but the mounting bracket (B) was bent outwards. They even went as far to wrongly install a switch or something (C) BACKWARDS. I don't think bending it is the answer, you should remove part A and the plate that blocks the hole. You should place the card so that the "tab" at the top of the backplate lies on B, insert the screw and replace part B.Correct, except for bold above: "...replace part A.If you look at pic 1 exhibit A, you see the little screw im willing to bet you there is one on the bottom half of the case as well, if you remove both of the screws that bracket should COME off and you should be able to take the blanks out of the way and install your graphics card with out an issue >.< Good luck, hope you understand. |
